It's 70 bucks for the lousy seats. The good seats and the floor are $100, and that's not including service fees.

Muse's arena shows last year were around 70 bucks, but this is a bit more since it's a multiple-band set.

BTW, I'm Michael. I'm in the LA area too. :)

Massive emphasis on Transatlanticism. Not only one of the great breakthroughs in indie rock over the last decade, but certainly their best album.

Plans and Narrow Stairs are still quite decent (though Narrow Stairs can be divisive). I really dislike the new album, though.

Everyone needs to listen to Cults when their debut album is released next week, okay?

I would say that I like Plans and Transatlanticism in equal measures. I think that's probably because Plans has 'Crooked Teeth' and 'Marching Bands of Manhattan' and they're two of my favourite Death Cab tracks. Narrow Stairs divides me because I like some of the tracks-- but can leave others behind. The one-that-shall-not-be-named is a little mehhh. They dun broked a formula that werked.

And we got Cults this week  But yes, I also agree with this point. Worth a gander at definitely.

Wolstentweets vary in point worth based on how funny, witty, cute, etc. the Wolstentweet is. Similarly, Wolstenmeets vary based on circumstance and what occurs in said Wolstenmeet. Needless to say, Wolstenmeets are highly valuable. As this Wolstenpoint system is still in its infancy, I have yet to designate specific numbers for certain Wolstenthings.

:stunned: The pic is nice. It's a tad blurry, and the mic gets in the way of his face, but proximity is excellent, and he seems to be in the cusp of making his signature bass face, so that helps you. I'd say it's worth 1,000 Wolstenpoints at the very least.

Dude I don't care if you don't like them, it's the snobbery I had an issue with, just want to make that clear, you were looking down on pop music as if it was beneath Muse, you get me? I don't agree with that, you can dislike the music all you want :)

I'm sorry to ask...but why did you came to a Muse thread to say that you don't like Muse?...who's the snob here? :P I think that everyone here respect everyone's tastes, but you just came HERE where Muse fans are, to say that you don't like Muse and saying that "the singer sounds like a girl", I ask again...who's the snob? ;)

I can understand when a person comes into this thread and states their opinion about what they don't like about Muse. That's fine. You can say all you want about how you don't like his voice or how you don't like their music or even how pretentious you think they are. Clearly, it doesn't matter, because that just means we get to keep Muse for ourselves. That's not a problem. However, bashing one of the band members for no reason (e.g. the vagina comment) is downright unacceptable.

Look, I don't know who you are, but that is disrespectful not only to Matt, but to us as fans. I would never say such things about anyone, so when someone says something like that about someone, especially if it's someone I admire, it burns me up.

While we're on that, let me say that stereotyping us to be elitist music snobs is very snobby of you. I have a very diverse taste in music. I listen to everything from classical to rock to indie to pop. I don't care what genre it is, as long as it sounds good to my ears. I don't know what made you think we only listen to Muse or whatever, but it is dead wrong.

If you are seriously going to sit here and bash our band (and us) aimlessly, you need to leave this thread. We were here minding our own business until you came in here and started crap, and we don't deserve that.

I'm a HUGE Muse fan! :D

Seen them live twice on The Resistance Tour - at Sheffield Arena and at Wembley Stadium (on the saturday) and they were amazing both times! Been one of my favourite bands for as long as I can remember, all of their albums are great and I can't wait for their new stuff. :)

Hello twistedpolitik, and welcome to the Muse thread.

That's awesome that you got to see them twice (one of those at Wembellamy *o*), I'm sure both days were incredible. :awesome:
I only saw them once at Newark's Prudential Center last October.

As you could probably guess, my favorite album is Showbiz (closely followed by Absolution).
My favorite songs change very often, but generally Showbiz, Sunburn, Bliss, Map of the Problematique, and Hyper Music are very high up. Oh, and Citizen Erased. Absolutely incredible, made me cry when I heard it live. :wacky:

How about you?

TwistedPolitik
05-06-2011, 06:16 AM
Sheffield was a better day because it was my first concert and since it was an arena show we didn't need to wait in line early, so me and my friends just spent time around Sheffield before going to wait outside the arena. Wembley was a much better show but since it was a stadium show we had to start waiting outside as soon as we got there, so the day wasn't as great but it was fun and the show more than made up for it :)

My favourite albums are Origin of Symmetry and Black Holes and Revelations. Favourite songs are Knights of Cydonia, Map of the Problematique, Citizen Erased, Resistance, Plug in Baby, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Muscle Museum and Stockholm Syndrome :)

I love all their albums and songs though (besides Soldier's Poem and Neutron Star Collision, but neither are as bad as many people say they are)

I'm Natt.

It's cool that you got to see them twice. And I'm jealous you got to see them on the Saturday :bomb: I wanted to. I ended up going on the Friday (not that it's a bad thing, but yeahh, still jealous of the Saturday setlist. Can you tell I'm a Muser from the way I complain at the setlist :laugh3:)

My favourite album is also Showbiz with OoS a very close second. My favourite songs are Muscle Museum, PiB, Uno, Bliss, BaH, TiRO, KoC and Undisclosed Desires. (Although I'm sure if you ask me again in like 4 days it will be different).

Also, as much as I love all their albums... The Resistance has been the most disappointing thus far.

That's awesome you saw them on the Saturday at Wembley, I did too! :awesome: I agree, waiting wasn't that great, especially when it started to rain.

My favourite album is Absolution with Origin of Symmetry and Showbiz tied as a close second. Favourite songs are Butterflies and Hurricanes, Citizen Erased, Showbiz, Megalomania, Ruled By Secrecy, Bliss and Dead Star.

Thanks everyone for the nice welcoming :)

I think The Resistance is a great album, despite the production not being very good and a few songs being a bit too long... Overall I'm not sure where I'd place it with the rest of their albums though.

And nice Hysteria, it's cool to meet someone else on here who went to one of the same shows I did :) The rain annoyed me because I was only wearing my Muse shirt from the previous gig so I was soaked  but it was so awesome when it started to rain during Uprising :D

I think Matt may have upset or offended some of the fans who couldn't make it to the Saturday night show with his comments towards the end of the concert though... I'm not sure if you all know what he said but he said that those who went to that show were "real fans" of the band and on the Muse site I go on a lot of people who had no choice but to go on the Friday night were upset by this as they felt like Matt was basically saying their fandom meant nothing to him. But I don't think he meant that, I just think he was happy after playing so many stadium gigs to all those fans that summer and he kinda meant it to all the fans who showed up.

Hi there! :) I'm Michael.

Are you making it to any of the festivals this year?

Just curious as to which songs on The Resistance you think are too long. Some of Muse's best songs are long, like Citizen Erased and Space Dementia.

And yeah, I recall reading the massive overreaction to Matt's Wembley comment on .mu. But that place is beef central.

TwistedPolitik
05-06-2011, 07:01 PM
I think Uprising is too long, because it has too simple a structure to last 5 minutes. If they wanted it to be that long they should have added the outro riff they play live onto the end of it I think, but then again I think that riff is cool as a live-only thing, I love it when bands play extra stuff on the end of songs live. Unnatural Selection, nothing much happens in the middle and I think the slow section goes on a bit too long, but that part works live so take it or leave it I reckon. Oh and I Belong to You should have just been two minutes, the French part is unneccesary. The version on the Twilight soundtrack is better IMO, but I do agree that a lot of the longer Muse songs are better, it's just that bands need to have something interesting going on to justify a longer track :)

And sadly I didn't have the money to pay for Reading or Leeds. I knew they were rumoured to play but I'd been having problems with money, so when they were confirmed and said they'd play all of the OOS album I was gutted :( ah well, I'll watch it on TV like I did with Glastonbury :p Are you going to any of the festivals?

Mmmmm, "Space Dementia." I can play the piano part on that. :awesome:

Anyway, to answer TwistedPolitik's question, my fave album would definitely be "Absolution." "Origin of Symmetry" would be a close second, methinks. As for song, "Butterflies & Hurricanes" is definitely my #1 pick.

Agreed about Uprising. I am beyond bored of the studio version, but that live outro riff is killer. I like the slower portion of Unnatural Selection, though, and I prefer the standard version of IBTY to the Twilight mix.

I major spaz fitted at when I found out Matt said that. I thought it to be really horrible and dismissive. I tried to get tickets to the Saturday. I skipped an exam damnit. It was not my fault that the server in my uni residences was so slow it was nearly impossible to even get on to the site before it sold out. My Mum ended up taking over and getting me the tickets to the Friday. So I was all like 'bitchy Mattchu, I could've failed my first year trying to get tickets, I think that classifies me as a fan. Say whut.'

I feel the same about I Belong to You. I've actually taken the album version off my iPod and slipped the Twilight soundtrack version in instead. :shame: I also think that the Uprising outro live is better than what you get on the CD but I think that's a thing to make the live shows a little better and a little more exciting I guess (not that they need to be any more exciting :P)

And I'll be joining you with the watching of Reading/Leeds on the TV. My placement runs over the weekend so it's impossible for me to go. Oh, and now I'm moving house that weekend instead so literally my parents are enforcing that I don't go despite my not living with them.

Violet

I think the Twilight mix of IBTY has too many unnecessary guitars. It doesn't sound right to me that way.

As far as "Unnatural Selection" goes, I never did understand why the slow section even exists, let alone how it ended up that way. I sometimes end up skipping that part of the song when I listen to it.

I'm just hoping Benicassim doesn't pull something like this and pit Bombay Bicycle Club against Brandon Flowers or something to that effect. Then shit will really get serious.

Personally, I'd go with BBC. I love The Killers, but Brandon Flowers' solo set is seriously boring live. The best songs are Killers covers, though it's not the same without the rest of the band.

Oh my god. I should not have laughed that much or that loud at that. I may have woken up my housemates. :uhoh: Your drawing of Matt is the most accurate representation evur.

Your accent is also dead neat. Man, I want an American accent :\

Corkus
08-06-2011, 12:30 AM
That might be the first time someone's ever complimented my accent, and I've met several Europeans in my lifetime. :laugh3: I get told that I don't speak like a normal Californian and sound like someone from up north. I'm sorry I don't use surfer lingo.

Also, I have over 10 more posters on the other walls in my room. 3 Muse ones total.

Michael, your drawings made me laugh. I quite like the Wolstenglasses. :awesome:

You talk similarly to a lot of us Northeasterners.

So, as of today, my Muse shirt has had two huge events happen to it in its life: it's seen Muse and it's had frog juice squirted on it. Gotta love dissections. :|

Violet
08-06-2011, 05:22 AM
OK. Michael, I have three things to say here.

1. You totally sound Californian to me.
2. The drawings were funny as hell.
3. I'm going to ask you to please not read the spoiler that I'm about to type. Yeah, I know, that just gives you probable cause to read it, anyway, but I'm trying to spare us both from an awkward moment. I probably shouldn't say what I'm going to say in the spoiler, but my compulsion to be completely honest with people won't allow me to just leave it alone.

AAAAAH. YOU'RE SO CUUUUUTE. The hair, the accent. Everything. GUHHHHH.

Mkay. I'm done with that. I'm now just going to sit here and pray that you actually listen to me, or at least if you happen to ignore it, you don't severly judge me. :embarrassed:

Hey, guys. Remember how I said I might do a cover of Muse or something and post it here?

Well, after the positive feedback I received for the parody, I became inspired and decided to finally post something here.

"Blackout": http://www.mediafire.com/?ipjtru6zgcu5g63
"Exogenesis": http://www.mediafire.com/?hb5uzxuirhbbwbk

To clarify, by "Exogenesis," I mean the entire symphony straight through. Speaking of which, I want to apologize for all of the bad bits where I wasn't as solid, particularly in "Cross-Pollination," where A. I start to get involuntarily shaky and, in turn, pitchy, and B. I accidentally mess up half of one of the lines.

So yeah. Fin.

Corkus
08-06-2011, 05:47 PM
Only listened to the Blackout cover so far, but it's convinced me that this entire thread needs to gather for Skype singalongs. I do it sometimes with my friends from .mu and we're just ridiculous. Personally, I sound terrible (especially when attempting to belt the Citizen Erased chorus in the car), but it's funny when you have other people. Of course, Violet actually sounds decent and will mock the rest of us. :laugh3:

Or we don't have to sing at all. But I think a Skype group for Coldplaying Musers could be fun. Any interest?

Will listen to Exo now. :)

Violet
08-06-2011, 06:02 PM
You mean I don't suck? HOORAY. :cheesy:

Oh gosh, "Citizen Erased" is so great, but it's hard to sing. I think it's mostly because of how self-conscious I am about my high register due to how low my natural voice is. Oh, and don't ask me to sing "Micro Cuts" ever. As a borderline female tenor, it's pretty much guaranteed that I will sound awful in the chorus.

Anyway, the Skype thing sounds like fun. Granted, I don't have a webcam, and my Internet speed sucks (so it'll lag a little), but yeah, sounds great.

Corkus
08-06-2011, 06:07 PM
Did you record the Exo cover second? Because it sounds better. You were probably more comfortable.

I want to hear Micro Cuts live one day, for one reason and one reason only. That reason being that listening to the crowd around me attempting to sing it would be FUNNY. AS. HELL.

Do you have a working mic, then?
PRE-POSTING EDIT: Oh duh, of course you have a working mic. :laugh3: But I'm not going to delete writing that because it's so hilariously stupid.

I will suggest this to Chris next time he tweets. Maybe that will make him drag Matt along to any footie matches that happen (I'm seriously hoping they don't fall through like when he planned an LA footie game last year).

My Skype name is "mlr9999" if anyone wants to add me. The one thing that may make this difficult is the time zone differences.

On another note, I feel like gig addiction really is like a drug addiction, except it's even more expensive and it won't kill you. Muse is the most provocative but it's not just them. Monday nights I will also be working a completely ridic 6-10 on top of that.
And Saturdays I will be working 10-6.

So I can pop in around that. :laugh3: Basically I can probably stay up until 2am here for you weekdays and Saturday night you can have me to your hearts content.

Ohhh, and Michael I suffer the same addiction I feel. I should be completely broke and not looking at other concerts beyond Benicassim but I've only recently booked 5 others too. I'm kind of glad I now have my placement to balance out this spending. :laugh3:

I'm not sure where else I can put this, but is anyone experienced with editing Wikipedia articles? I'm planning on editing and updating the article for The Resistance Tour, which I think is pretty mediocre as it stands... We're talking pictures of the stadium set-up, a 'Reception' section which explains the reviews concerts in the tour was met with, an explaination of the summer stadium polls which fans could vote for certain songs to be played and of course an updating of the setlists, seeing as the setlists from the last few shows haven't been put on the article yet, among other things.

Is anyone up for this? I'd do it myself but I don't have the time or patience, plus I'm bad at doing stuff like entering pictures and setlists. It could be a great article - take a look at some of the articles for the U2 or Coldplay tours (particularly the 360 Tour) for an idea as to how this could end up. I've worked on some other Muse articles as well. I added a 'Critical reception and legacy' section to Showbiz, as well as a 'Live performances' section to Exogenesis: Symphony if you want some examples on stuff I've edited into other Muse articles.

Long story short, anyone wanna help out? I think there's potential for a good article and I think everyone interested in Muse deserve a good article, so that fans, both new and old, can read up on as much info they can find on the tour on this one article. :)

Here's a link to the article as it is now, it's okay but as you may tell it seems a bit dated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Resistance_Tour

My exams start on Tuesday and then run on through until the 30th of the month. Basically my whole timetable goes exam day, day off, exam day ect. Also, made way better by the fact that Clinical Aspects is my first exam and that's like the hardest over and done with first. :escaping:

Good luck with your art attack Michael, you must show us the results!

Thanks!

Omg I procrastinate so much too. :uhoh: not even funny. :disappointed:

Best of luck with your exams as well Natt.

The only part I don't like about it is the intro to Citizen Erased  I like your sig, btw

Not on the album, but live it's just incredible. It's a time for all hardcore Musers to go crazy before gathering ourselves for the rest of the song, and the crying, screaming, jumping, etc that goes with it. :P

 I'm the worst when it comes to revising. I'm so awesome at procrastinating it seems everything at the time can distract me from studying. I've got 4 exams left this month and already had 3 but I only just started revising last week but keep getting distracted. :|

Good luck with your exams and everyone else who has them! :nice:

Also, congrats Christina! That's amazing! :awesome: I had a 2 hour 15 minutes English exam last week and I'll probably never get that.

What do you mean by revising and exams? Are your exams take-home or something?

Thanks Kelly! :wacky:
And I'm sure you will, you just have to believe in yourself. :bigcry:
:P

Me and my mate are gonna try (and no doubt fail) to get hold of Leeds tickets somehow, so we can see Origin live and see Muse for the third year in a row. I know we'll fail, but I at least wanna be able to say I've tried. :p

So I've heard  some people at museforum were complaining about how they played it opening for U2 and not on tour.

I was resentful over that one. :laugh3: Not saying that South Americans don't deserve it, but the majority of a U2 crowd has probably heard little to no Muse before.

So I bought 3 plain shirts just now, one for each festival I'm going to. Each one is getting a unique artistic design based on a particular song, even though I use the term "artistic" in the loosest possible manner. Going with B&H for Lolla, Apocalypse Please for LA Rising, and haven't decided upon one for OSL, but I'm thinking Space Dementia.

What are you gonna do for AP, draw a bunch of zombies and screaming people?

Was thinking flames and lightning clouds with the lyrics written in a gothic style. I can't draw people for the life of me.

Open for (simple) suggestions, of course. :)

Gothic letters are hella complicated to draw.

Haha, I wouldn't know. I've never done anything gothic. :laugh3:

^^ Gothic letters look like this:

...Yeah. Unless you have stencils and/or are really good with that sort of thing, you might have some problems.

Haha maybe, but doubt it, because I'm easier to please than a lot of Musers who just bitch and bitch and bitch no matter what happens. There are Reading/Leeds people who are whining because Russia got "Megalomania", which apparently makes Reading/Leeds "less special". That makes me sick. Not only is it incredibly selfish, but people have been clamoring for more older songs, so it's hypocritical.

I'LL FREESTYLE IT DAMMIT.

Oooohhh. Those designs sound nice Michael. I wish you the best of luck. You know, you could photoshop the designs and then use t-shirt transferring chemicals to get them onto the shirt? My friend bought me some of the stuff to do it for my birthday as I've always wanted to make my 'Da Bomb' and 'Holy Fuckery, It's Batman!' doodles into t-shirts :laugh3:

Continuing with the slightly creative theme. I'm thinking that for my scrapbook for my Muse page that I'm going to try and recreate the artwork from The Resistance as the page layout. Or at least use the Hexagons as a basis of a design. (To be fair, it's going to be a while until I get to the Muse layout, I'm only on Just Jack from November 2009 atm )

Is this a concert scrapbook, Natt?

It is indeed a concert scrapbook.

I've got piles of photos, tickets, confetti and setlists that I've nabbed over the last 21 months. I've been previously sticking them to my walls and stuff but I'm now moving (again) and I've decided it's probably a better idea to scapbook all this stuff. Which is my current project between revision :P
