Hello everyone!
Pretty sure it's been a whole week since I've even looked at this thread (actually it would be exactly a week as I'm about to leave for uni again) but just thought I'd drop in and say hi.
HI :D

Nat did you end up seeing Friendly Fires? Or haven't you been to the festival yet?
Oh and I actually can't remember the last time I listened to a whole Muse album :wreck:

Voice post thing.... ugh. I have 4 assignments and 2 practical exams in about the next 12 days. So yeah. Excuses.

Oh! Yeah, those. I had tried uploading them some time ago, but for some reason, they wouldn't, so I said I'd do it some other time. It looks like I never did. I'll get on that some time in the near future. :nice:

The Vaccines are opening for all of Arctic Monkeys' North American dates. I didn't get tickets to AM's local headline show, though, since both bands will be at both Lolla and OSL. That's a really good way of describing the album. I have to also add that the album sounds a lot like the live version... There's barely any difference. It sounds like there was minimal editing/tweaking when it came to making the CD.

Yeah, Christina reminded me with her USoE comment.

Unlike UD, "United States of Eurasia" actually translates extremely well live. I didn't care for it when I first heard it after that whole treasure hunt thing, but there's something that's freaking awesome/hilarious about thousands of people fist-pumping to "SIA! SIA! SIA! SIA!"

I think the album takes an immense upswing after the first 5 tracks. Once they get the poppier songs and the outright sucky songs out of the way, it's really solid from "Unnatural Selection" onward.

I don't like to think that Muse have any songs that downright suck.

Of course, that's the blind fangirl in me talking. In reality, I know that I have my songs that I really don't like. I've always found "Map of Your Head" to be quite annoying.

:curtain:That's what I said before my first Muse show, since I would be happy with anything at my first show. Then they played it. It was brutal. Thankfully, the zetas have smiled upon me and I haven't had to put up with it at a single show since. We'll see if I stay that lucky in a few months. :P
Guiding Light in Paris was hilarious for me because I was standing right next to the person who filmed this (http://youtu.be/9neGUrcZ98o).

Oh, and I quite like Map of Your Head. But then my sister and I have this little private joke thing with that song so that's probably why :P

The Muse song I find most annoying is probably... yeah, Guiding Light :P

You're not pathetic! I'm looking at the setlists now, and I admit, I'd be very, very annoyed if I attended only the first night gig. :\ They really should have evenly divided the rarities, or just played the same awesome setlist for both nights.

When it's live, it's just so awesome. :awesome: And I loved how Matt was up high with the piano (don't ask me why, I just thought it was pretty cool :P)

There's actually not a single song off of the Resistance that I don't like, although I agree the latter half of the album has better songs. :nice:

Ack, you guys have been busy whilst I've been afk for like, two days? My points/replies condensed into a numbered list for ease of reference (and I cba to multi-quote):

1) UNDISCLOSED DESIRES STAN HERE. So I take offense to insulting it majorly. However, I have to admit it doesn't translate as well live as I had hoped. (Or I was distracted by my whole spaz attack because the platform moved).

2) I'm still bitter about the first night at Wembley being rather sucky in comparison to evening two. I'm sorry if I was a fail-a-whale and my uni internet was not fast enough to get me tickets to the original date. I missed a goddamn exam for tickets.

3) As much as I love Mooze... The Resistance is, in my mind, their weakest album to date. It's more mainstream than the previous ones... I will always stand up and say that OoS and Showbiz are my favourite albums. (Though I do love Abso).

4) I also stan Map of Your Head because it resonates muchly with me. It could have done with being a bit rockier, but w/e.

5) Damn, Chris is looking finer in each successive photo. But he's married with kids so that means in my 'hot list' he is strictly unobtainable. (I wonder if Matt will go over to that side once he gets married?)

6) I love the little Matt doll and Dom's awkward turtling in the photo.

7) Guiding Light = suxballz.

I think that's all I really had to say.... :laugh3:

So, it is rumoured that Chris will be the songwriter for the next album...

"MUSE singer MATT BELLAMY has passed songwriting duties over to his bandmate.
Bassist CHRIS WOLSTENHOLME will pen the band's tracks while the frontman takes a break from rock to be with his actress fiancé KATE HUDSON, who is expecting their first child in July.
But Chris isn't hugely confident of living up to Matt's standards.
He said: "Matt's raised the bar quite high in terms of songwriting. I'm a bit nervous because I don't want to write a song and it be responsible for the demise of the band."
No pressure then."

I'm not so sure if Matt would willingly do that, personally. But that's just me. Until someone verifies this through a reliable source, I'm taking this with a grain of salt.

However, if this is true, I'm intrigued to see what Chris does. Speaking of which, if what he said is also true, I want to give him a hug. (Well, I'd want to give him one, anyway, but this is for a legitimate reason other than, "OOOH, IT'S CHRIS.") He couldn't bring the band down.

Muse bassist Chris Wolstenholme wants to write tracks for the band's next album.

All the songs on the 'Hysteria' rockers' first five albums have been written by vocalist and guitarist Matt Bellamy and, although he feels a little daunted, Chris is hoping his ideas could make it onto their next record.

When asked if any of his tracks will be on the new Muse album, Chris told BANG Showbiz:
"Maybe. Obviously Matt's written everything so far, and he's kind of raised the bar quite high in terms of songwriting.

"I write quite a bit. I think if there's stuff that's good enough it would always be considered, I'm a bit nervous really, because I don't want to write a song and it be responsible for the demise of the band."

The band - which also includes Dominic Howard - have yet to start work on the album, but Chris says they have lots of ideas and recording will be easier than previously, as they are all living in the same city.

He added: "There's a lot of ideas that we've all individually got, but we've not got together as a band yet to actually consciously put an album together.

"We're kind of all living in London now, well I'm just outside. But the plan is to do the album in London and it will be the first time in 12 years we've all been in the same place!"

Muse previously recorded songs in Italy, America and their home county of Devon in Southern England.

Ooh! Can I openly bash Coldplay lyrics and their new outfits in this thread? They don't seem to like me doing that in the Coldplay forum. Don't know why. My opinion of "Clocks is an amazing song even though its lyrics don't mean squaddly shit, and also, 42 is lyrically braindead" is just as poignant as someone else's take of "Lost is brilliance! Big fish in a little pond? Lyrical genius! Who would ever contrast 'big' to 'little' like our savior, Mr. Martin?"

So yeah, "I'd rather be a comma than a full stop" is some of the stupidest wordplay ever. And I've still only read the first few verses of ETIAW.

You are free to do so here. Although, I have to disagree... I like the line 'I'd rather be a comma than a full stop' admittedly it means nothing in the context of the song. But I still took a shine to it :D

But I do agree with you on the lyrical nonsense for a lot of it... Admittedly, Kings of Leon make even less sense. And Muse have their odd moments of lyrical whut? :stunned: But I think that's why I like them.

True on both accounts.

Man, "Clocks" was so overplayed. It eventually lost the luster that it had for me. I think since then, I haven't really been able to listen to it the same way. It's still a nice song, though.

As far as "42" goes, I always did have partial feelings for the opening line, for some reason.

HAHAHAHAHA. That "Lost" bit made me chuckle. It's not like Chris Martin came up with that on his own. It was a cliché long before he used it.

Is it bad that I haven't really read the lyrics for it or anything yet? :uhoh: I think that line is actually pretty cool-sounding, even though in my head, it doesn't make much practical sense.

The album artwork = well awful. I looked at it and died at the font. Seriously. What is the meaning of that font?! If they're trying for this graffiti/street art idea... Then maybe they need to go out on the streets and see that no one uses a font like that!! :inquisitive:

I prefer the more obscure Coldplay songs if I'm honest, it's the same with all the bands. Once a song gets played a lot around the place I get bored of it and start to like a really odd one of the album.

My favourite Coldplay track is probably Talk/Crests of Waves. Muse it is Map of Your Head and Muscle Museum.

Criticism is indeed a good thing, but at the same time, I wouldn't be a person to bash a band just to do it, for no good reason. There's a difference between the two. I think the problem is that some of the fanatics misinterpret criticism as an insult when it's not. Bashing implies an intentional malice, and that's something I don't really agree with, but criticism is just an opinion, so I don't see why that would be an issue.

Heh, there's nothing wrong with that. I sometimes get that feeling when I like a song, and I wonder why it's not a single. Then I think about it, and I end up being glad that it's not, because it would probably be ruined for me otherwise. :D

Oh, God, "Map of Your Head?" No offense, but as I mentioned earlier in this thread, that song just annoys me. It's good that you appreciate it, however; it makes up for the lack of love that's coming from me.

Criticism is something Coldplay fans aren't good at though. Because there is so much hate/malice around the band, it's any slight 'off' remark is seen as an attack. Therefore the immediate defensive stance that some Coldplayers will take is a natural response for being heckled so much. I think it would be nice though if between us we could somehow get each other used to the remarks by actually having in-forum discussions rather than: OMGITSAMAZINGIFYOUBASHWEWILLFLAMEYOU

I used to get so annoyed when people said how 'lame/boring/suicidal' Coldplay were... Then I learnt to live with it. So I now just say: 'that's your opinion, you're entitled... Just like I don't like [name one of their bands here]'

I feel bad. I sort of feel like Coldplay are trying to be 'in' with the street art culture and I'm a bit like... Um, no. You're 10-15 years too old and you're a little on the... posh side for it. :\ It's cringe. That being said-- I do like the new jackets. And that Will has adopted Dom green skinnies.

Hey, you're entitled not to like it. You probably find a favourite in one that I don't like or something like that. If everyone liked the same songs, it would make life a little dull or something. We need a bit of variety/spice, and some friendly bickering/discussion about it. I just like Map of Your Head... I find it so different to their normal style that it caught me off guard and I guess that's why it sticks out to me... Also I find it unbelievably quirky (and I sort of related to the lyrics)

Although I'll have to disagree that Uprising was a lazy choice. . . It's an obvious one, and an overplayed one, but I still feel that's one of the best "rock" songs from the album. (by rock I mean more basic rock style, if you get what I'm trying to say?)

I think I can understand that, to an extent. While I think it's better to just ignore people like that, I can relate to how they might react after extended exposure to such things. I actually unwillingly exploded on someone else in The Lounge after this person made a certain comment about Muse because this same person had done it so much and did it in a way that really set me off. (Christina knows exactly what I'm talking about, as she was there for that.)

People say they're suicidal? That doesn't even make sense. They're not depressing enough for that.

Actually, I'm going to state what I said earlier in the Coldplay section. I'm not a fan of the threads. The clothes themselves are OK, but the patches are oversized and look silly. Will is just a hot mess. A puffy brown jacket (with a zipper on the sleeve...WTF) and green skinnies don't mix. I don't even really care much for Dom wearing colored skinnies, but because it's part of Dom and it showcases who he is, I've never really said anything about it until now, and it's not like it's bad. Skinnies are for skinny people, and Will isn't necessarily the skinniest person. That's just me.

That's fine. Grace and I had a discussion on it earlier, so I don't mind. Actually, I've learned through the Arcade Fire polls going on that my taste tends to be different from the norm, anyway, so it's whatever. There are times when I don't mind it as much, but generally, it's just not for me.

I think because Coldplay gets a lot of haters, fans have become extremely defensive to even the slightest criticism, even if it's something dumb like Chris's haircut.

Dearish me. The new quiff is fucking terrifying.

Here's me having nightmares forever.

I actually kinda like it. I think it has something to do with my fondness of Chris having shorter hair as opposed to the curls, which I was never a fan of.

Saw that a few days ago. Surprisingly decent. Yes, Uprising and SMBH are super boring picks, but any list that includes songs from Showbiz obviously has good intentions.

From that album, yeah, but not enough so to warrant a Top 10 spot in a poll of their entire discography. That's ludicrous.

Could have? They SHOULD have. Both those songs are so much better, particularly "Megalomania." I just love it.

But no Citizen Erased or B&H? or is this just singles?

Oh, so look what NME have been up to today... Picking up what The Sun wrote, running with it and not bothering to do their research. These people get paid to do this so I think they could at least attempt some effort with it.

So, they posted it rather early this morning, and then got a very... intense... response. A lot of people pointing out that Chris had called it bollocks. Oh, and a lot of insulting statements as to why they believe The Sun of all places. Or why they didn't actually read the Contact Music article.

Then it turned into slander against how NME is going downhill. (Cutted rant ahoy):

I take great joy in joining in with this. Because when NME has always prided itself on being 'alternative' and giving the best, most up-to-date musical news-- it's fun to rip them for not being that at all.

I mean, I loathe NME with a passion. Because they dedicated a whole edition to Lady Gaga of all people... And I mean everything else was overlooked for the bowing down to Gaga. Then they proceed to ask the NME populace what they think of Gaga's album and are surprised when most of us are like: 'don't want to listen', 'rather rip my ears off' ect and when we then turn on NME for bowing down to Gaga and treating her like the best thing to happen to music in like evur.

NME then deleted the article and we all thought hip-hooray they've listened. Turned out they just wanted to get rid of the bad comments and posted it a few hours later.

Anyway, besides the point, this is what I really wanted to show people. This gem of a comment that proves Belldom is in all Musers minds:

You'd think a source like NME would do a little more research instead of going with something as unreliable as the Sun. I think that's silly that they just re-uploaded the article.

As for that BellDom comment . . . ahahahahaha.

Corkus

NME hates Fleet Foxes.

Amidst an endless sea of NME sins, that one trumps them all.

Seriously, after Dom shoved that NME trophy up his nose, I wish he lodged it up some NME executives' asses.

^ Yep, that was one of the comments that they received when they gave the Lady Gaga album review... Someone was like 'You give that worthless excuse for music an 8/10 but you give Fleet Foxes a 2? How is that sound musical judgement?' Or something to that effect.
