I think Megalomania weakens OoS and Feeling Good strengthens it. :P

Hysteria

Really? I love Megalomania! One of my favourites off the album. :p It's also a great album closer.

Mrs.McFly
06-10-2010, 11:07 PM
^^^But Plug in Baby, Bliss, Space Dementia, Citizen Erased :awesome: Some of my favorite Songs :D
I like Feeling Good! Although I prefer their Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You cover  Dom's tarataratararatatarara

Dark Shines should be in Showbiz album...And its a great song :saw:

EdPlay

To me Screenager and Micro Cuts(cant stand the voice) weakens OoS... Just my opinion tough.
To me Sober weakens Showbiz.
And so far in the Abslution, Blackout weakens it.

My opinion.

Hysteria

House of the Rising Sun is my favourite Muse cover

EdPlay

Hysteria

Aw, but I love Falling Down.
Hate This & I'll Love You is the weak point for me. :p

Megalomania

Hysteria

I could, is something that is happening to me now.

Corkus
07-10-2010, 12:41 AM
Hate This & I'll Love You is okay but certainly the weakest closer on any of Muse's albums. Sober is one of the few songs on an LP that I outright dislike.

I really love Blackout, though. If I had to pick out a weak point on Absolution, it would be Endlessly, but there's really not a bad song on Abso. SFA, B&H and RBS are bloody gorgeous songs (with B&H being my second favorite Muse song behind Bliss). I still get chills from re-watching videos of the performance of Ruled By Secrecy at Staples (aside from the idiots talking over it).

Also, I thought Coldplayers were bad when it came to griping about setlists. Go look at the sheer chaos that's happening over at the Muse board.

EdPlay
07-10-2010, 12:50 AM
I didn`t understand your 3rd paragraph, i suck in english.
I cant like Blackout neither Stockholm Syndrome...

Megalomania
07-10-2010, 12:53 AM
He means that he thought that Coldplayers were big complainers about generic setlists, but his opinion has changed now that he's seen the Muse board's members, who complain about everything about the setlist. :P

Seriously? "Megalomania" is one of the best album closers ever. I love a heavy dose of organ.

EdPlay

I am actually liking Megalomania more now...I guess i hadn`t give it the chance it deserves. Thats why this forum is a good place to hang, you learn to give more chance to music people are fanatic.

SueDeNimes
08-10-2010, 12:10 AM
It was for at least 4 gigs according to this site:
http://www.musewiki.org/Gigs,_1999-2000

But I'd suppose it was for all the UK gigs between the Astoria and Portsmouth gigs...
This is only what I could find on a quick search, I'm sure we could find out more if we digged a little deeper. :)

If I ever saw Muse and Coldplay on the same stage, I'd completely freak out.

Can somebody say something about The Small Print? :/

I have mixed feelings about The Small Print. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. :\ The melody itself is pretty good, and I like the guitar riff.

I got nothing hearing it...

Wait, do you mean the meaning behind it?

I really don't know what it's about. All I got from it was a feeling of bitterness from the singer's point of view.

. . . and then there's MuseWiki's explanation.

While initially played before Absolution's release, it went by the name 'Action Faust.' The song can be understood as, clearly alluding to Goethe's Faust, being sung from the point of view of the Devil to someone selling their soul to him in exchange for, presumably, musical prowess and fame. It shows the transaction as ultimately manipulative on the part of the Devil, dooming the recipient to be a "slave to the grave" and robbing him of all memories of "the good days". The Devil's identity can be seen in the line "I'm a priest God never paid"; he is able to mediate supernatural power but does so outside of the service of God. The final title "The Small Print" yet again underlies the motif of a dishonest contract between a Devil and Faustian figure.

That's exactly my point when people say that they suck. About coldplay ,it used to be the other way around. I mean, i have a bunch of dvd's from the 2000-2003 era and cp sound amazing live! I think they focused more on the music than in the show back then but during the x&y/viva era, they focus more on the show( butterflies, running around while singing, etc) and they don't sound as good as they used to be. I think they should go back to their roots because that works for them. Just my opinion.

On the other hand, muse can pull a great visual show AND sound amazing live at the same time. I'm not comparing both bands cos they're totally different but still.

Mrs.McFly
10-10-2010, 09:21 PM

Mojo Pin
10-10-2010, 09:25 PM
Well yeah, i mean cp sound great during some shows but most of the time Chris' voice is off or he's just too fatigated after running around and that affects his musical performace. I'm just saying that when they focus on just giving a good musical show instead of a visual show, they're waaaay better.

this ^^ It's often Chris' voice that sometimes doesn't sound good live. I've never been to a Muse concert so my opinion is mainly based on what I've seen on TV, but I think both bands sound good live. As for the visual effects I have to agree with what Knight of Cydonia said (I'm sorry I don't know your name)

^Yeah! I say that many times, when I go to a concert I just want good music and sound! I don't need nothing else :)
And I like The Resistance too! :)

I know what you mean. I know lot of people who say they suck only because they have listened one song or simply because they relate them to twilight but hell they're amazing live! I don't like their new style too much and my fav bit of the resistance has to be the exogenesis symphony but even so, the rest of the songs sound great live. I still prefer their first 3 albums( especially oos )over their new stuff.

I'm so glad you had such a great time Lauren and thanks for sharing the pics and vids! :D

Thanks Ren. :)

i don't want a guy dancing weirdly, i want the singer singing perfectly
I'm not comparing them but muse do outshine coldplay when they're performing live. why do ppl hate the new album i love it, it has very personal feel to it and i think ppl dont like that

:laugh3:
I've just recently started listening to their last album, again. I don't see why people hate it. As someone said to me (maybe it was you ) Muse is an acquired taste and I'm giving them another chance. honestly, I think many people have made a wrong assumption of the band because they did not know about them before Twilight, and some old fans don't like the new album as much as the others because of that, like my friend.

Mrs.McFly
10-10-2010, 09:50 PM
I love everything about Muse, the old and the new albums, the concerts,... I don't think that it's possible to say that any of their songs are BAD, maybe not that good, but never BAD, imo... :) The only thing I don't like was when they put Supermassive Black Hole on Twilight! :shifty:

Hysteria

I think it's fair to say that Muse are up their with the best live bands ever.

As for them being on Twilight, that isn't a problem with me, it's just the screaming fans who say Muse are their favourite band when they have only heard SMBH, that annoys me. :|

Mrs.McFly
10-10-2010, 10:23 PM
^^ I know... :\ And I respect their decision but like Hysteria (sorry, don't know your name) said there are many people that say that muse is their favorite band ever but they only know SMBH and Starlight...

I'm so happy you had a good time, Lauren!

Did anyone hear about Muse winning more best live act awards? :awesome:

Coldplay would be a lot better it Chris would stop running around like a maniac and concentrated on vocals instead.

I agree with Kelly on the Twilight fans.

I like Muse songs in the studio and live, and I like Coldplay songs in the studio but not as much live, although that's going from Youtube videos.

Mrs.McFly

this ^^ It's often Chris' voice that sometimes doesn't sound good live. I've never been to a Muse concert so my opinion is mainly based on what I've seen on TV, but I think both bands sound good live. As for the visual effects I have to agree with what Knight of Cydonia said (I'm sorry I don't know your name)

"For the week starting 9th July 2007, some members of Muselive.com and other fansites attempted to get Citizen Erased into the UK charts. It eventually reached position No 122. Jesting about the song's popularity three years later, Matthew Bellamy commented "[...] so we've got to change our website I think to uh— from Muse.mu to CitizenErased.com", before performing it within Old Trafford Cricket Ground."

Does anyone ever read an interview where Muse say if they like twilight or not? I was just wondering..

I remember Matt and Dom saying they thought the movies were pretty cool. I could be wrong.

As for allowing Twilight to use their songs, there was this fairly recent interview with Chris, where he says that they "sold their souls" to Twilight.

On the subject of the hugely popular vampire films, Wolstenholme admitted they were “not my cup of tea”.

Aw, really? I bought mine online. I guess you could try ordering it that way or from the official Muse website, but I don't know how expensive it might be.

And you're welcome! :nice:

I'm late on the discussion of Coldplay and Muse's singers, but I'll just give this little thought. The good thing about Matt is that he has a pretty powerful voice and is usually not off-tune. I feel kind of bad when I listen to some of Chris' singing during the Viva la Vida tour and I think, "WOW. Chris actually sounds decent! . . . :blank:" I really hope he improves his singing for the next tour, along with taking good care of his voice.

I want to see all musicians put in a giant Coleceum

I love how huge it is on Matt :laugh3: Looks like he's wearing a dress.

^ That would be pretty epic.

Oh, thank you!

How cute!  It does! But I think even shirts from the kids' section would look like a dress on Matt.

^^ In the interview, why did he says he broke up with his girlfriend? :\ (Matt speaks way to fast!!)

He said that someone took a picture of him dancing or "trying it on" with some random girl in a bar. Gaia then found the picture on the Internet. :\

Matt does speak too fast. Random story time. My math teacher also speaks really quickly during class. When I first heard him talk, the first thought that popped into my head was, "Gah. You're just as bad as Matt Bellamy."

Not even Knights of Cydonia. :disappointed: Funny thing though is if I ever see Muse live, I'd still rock out like crazy to the song.

As much as I like Supermassive Black Hole, I definitely wouldn't mind if they took it off the setlist. :P

Should have warned ya...it's their first real step into the "pop" territory. The Resistance continues the trend.

That said, Map of the Problematique is totally their best post-Absolution song. I'm really glad they played it at one of my shows.

At Kelly's suggestion, I'm posting this in here.

As you may be aware, Muse Week in the World of Music is scheduled to start Monday and will go all the way through Saturday. However, due to last-minute drawbacks, I have an open slot for the B-Sides day on Saturday. Is there anyone in the Muse fan community willing (and knowledgeable) enough to take this project on? If anyone could do it, it would mean a lot to me and the rest of the Muse community. Thanks.

It's funny that you of all people would say that. You love Coldplay, right? Well, Chris Martin gives credit of a lot of his inspiration to a-ha, who are a Norwegian pop band. Given that information, for you to say no good comes out of pop is ludicrous.

nouratan
17-10-2010, 05:53 PM
^ rock bands should not try to become to pop influenced, muse were always experimenting with their music but muse went a little to far with B&H.
ask any1 and they'll tell you muse is not good when they go pop.
and Chris liking A-HA is different coz it was his choice to listen to pop rock whc he still listens to as he now loves U2:rolleyes:.
what is really good abt pop nowadays:dozey:.

I like Black Holes & Revelations :uhoh: I LOVE Supermassive Black Hole (it has NOTHING to do with that horrible movie :| I always loved that song and I always will), Map Of The Problematique, Starlight has a great beat (specially live, imo), Exo-Politics, Take A Bow, Invencible, Knights Of Cydonia sounds like a Sci-Fi western soundtrack and it's one of their best songs live :)

And I sometimes listen to some pop music, like Maroon 5, ABBA, Pet Shop Boys, Robbie Williams, Bee Gees :awesome:, ... btw, don't judge because of this!

Mrs.McFly
17-10-2010, 07:47 PM
I think that most of the pop (not all bands) nowadays is to much about appearance, being famous and crappy lyrics :\ but in the 80's was freaking awesome
