Marisa and Galaga- those pics are amazing!! Thanks for sharing them, and so glad you both had an awesome time!
I was looking over the past couple of set lists and have found something that makes me a little sad. I LOVE MK Ultra and it looks like they're switching that one out... they play it some nights, but the other nights they play Map of the Problematique, which is one of my absolute favorites! That means I'll probably get to see one, but not the other. :bigcry: my only hope is that they switch sets every night. I'm seeing them two nights in a row, so hopefully I'll get to see both songs performed!
@Christa- when's your show?

It makes me sad that due to the horn workshop I have to go to that weekend, I can't go see Muse.

Yeah, I've seen muse and Coldplay live, and it doesn't change Coldplay as being my favorite band, because that's just impossible for me :P I will say that Muse are like amazing live. :wideeyed: and that now whenever they are on tour by me, best believe I am going to go see them again :awesome:
But Coldplay, is always going to be number one :smug:
1) Because they are completely different bands
2) Different types of atmospheres at their shows
3) Different ways of making the show special (muse with the Dom and Chris solos, Coldplay with the butterflies and B and C stages. ect...)
4) Their stage set ups are different  And I like both of them very much :wacky:
5) Matt and Chris both have a different unique way of dealing with the crowds :nice:
I'm becoming a huge fan of Muse though now :wacky: I might have to move them up on my list
Coldplay

When it comes to concerts at MSG, don't be afraid to bring your camera. Don't flash it around when you're walking in (although plenty of people do) and you'll be fine. There's security guards everywhere at MSG but all they watch out for is weed, drunks, and rowdy people.
Part of the fact that they don't care much about the picture taking, is if you notice, as the concert time gets closer they pump smoke into the air. Most cameras can't take really nice pictures through the smoke because the smoke puts an odd blur on your camera when you use flash. And with most digital cameras, pictures turn out better with the flash. So basically the only people who get really really really awesome pictures are those with professional cameras, aka the people they hire.
(^^^^^^ This is just what I've inferred after numerous events at MSG)
Edit: I just reread your post. The flip is pretty cool to have, I bring it with me to any events such as seminars and concerts. But they're also great to have even when you're hanging around with your friends to record to stupid stuff you do. However, if you have a digital camera, it's basically the same thing because the camera can record video as well. All you need is a bigger memory card. I guess the bigger difference with the handheld camcorder would be if you got an HD one or not.
Also, I'm going to leave my computer on overnight and hopefully all the vids will get uploaded during that time. If anyone can rip the audio and make it sound better, that'd be awesome xD

The Toronto show was AMAZING. I admit I was a bit surprised that they were playing such a huge venue when I found out. I guess they've real blown up...
Anyway so I went with my sister, we had floors. We were running a bit late so we missed a bit of the opening band, but from what I heard they were pretty good.
It was really easy to go along the sides and get close to front of the stage. We were on the left so we had an awesome view of Matt most of the time, we were between 3rd-6th row back of people most of the time.
It was really weird the way they did the set up though. I've never seen a show where they sold tickets behind the stage. Wonder how it might have been. Even with the rotating drumset and extra mics, they still had an ass-view most of the time.
The lasers were pretty awesome. I liked how they had mirrors all around the stage to bounce them off. Right when the balloons came down I was just thinking COLDPLAY! haha. Balloons filled with confetti at the ACC? I've seen that before. :P cept they were yellow, obviously...
Loved it. Really happy that I got floors, since it didn't feel so different from where I've seen them before. It's been way too long since I've seen Muse...

Awesome thanks so much for the info. Def think I'm gonna get a Flip now. I've been using a Fuji dig cam to record my video and it's got some limitations like not being able to zoom while in record mode which really blows. Plus I want the rest of my stuff to be in HD. I was sitting on the left side slightly back. I have completely memorized the shape of Chris's arse. I must say, it is quite nice...xD
From one of the pictures I took at the concert, I have one that shows his arse and how round it is because light is reflecting off of it...:P

The audio quality of my videos would've been even better if I realized I could turn off the recording light. I was covering it with my finger and later realized I blocking one of the mics. The flip doesn't take stills, but if I have my flip on me and not a camera, I'll take a 1 second recording then once I put it on my computer take a screen shot. Also, the the flip does zoom, but not that much - you can watch my videos and then head to a store and try it out. Every company is making its own handheld camcorder, I just happen to have a flip because I got it as a gift.

In all fairness, I think Muse had balloons filled with confetti before Coldplay did - they've been doing it for years and years.
Anyway, awesome show though! It was my first time seeing Muse live despite having been a fan for almost 7 years... but the wait was SO worth it! The energy in the ACC last night could only be rivalled by the energy at a Coldplay show!

Really? I've seen Muse twice before and have never seen them use confetti filled balloons. Maybe the venue's in Toronto didn't work for them? Hm. Ah well. Wonderful either way:D I really wish I was able to touch one though.

I wish I could find the original source of that tidbit (about Muse having used the balloons first) but the best I could do was a reference on the Muse forum (http://board.muse.mu/showthread.php?t=54848) - apparently Muse has been doing the balloons since 2001 and Coldplay since 2005.
I've never been able to touch a confetti-filled balloon at a Coldplay concert despite having been to a good number of shows, but I finally got to touch one of the ones at the Muse concert last night! Wish I was smart enough to try to hit it with something sharp in order to burst it, but it was still fun to finally touch a confetti-filled...eyeball, lol.

I know there are better camcorders out there but...it looks sleek and can fit in yo pocket. Sometimes I sacrifice functionality for hipness factor, lol.

a lot of companies make thinner ones, depends on where you want the screen - and how much you want to spend xD

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the show, MariePeter18! Agreed - Muse is such a great live band. I can't wait to see them again, although I imagine they won't be back in Canada for a bit. :(

I just found out they're playing a special showcase at SXSW next Saturday and METRIC are opening! :dead: Too bad you have to have a badge or wristband to get in... I live 20 minutes away from the venue and won't be able to see them!! :( I guess I'll just have to be content with seeing them in Dallas and Houston a few days before :)

My entertainment law professor (I'm in law school) just told us yesterday in class that she'll be missing next week's class because she'll be at SXSW next week (she's a leading entertainment lawyer so she's there for "business"). I would be incredibly jealous if I find out that she gets to see Muse while she's there!

Ooh, someone just posted this interview on the Muse Messageboard. It's absolutely hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time...
The parts in "[ ]" are comments made by the person who translated this from Italian and are not part of the actual interview.
“Fifty thousand tickets sold three months before the gig? We’re going to fill San Siro up then…” The news of the high number of tickets sold in the presale for the Italian show reaches Matt Bellamy in a dreary Paris, grey light typical of the darkest winter days. The day started well, and Muse’s singer allows himself a big smile. “See? I’m not as sad, shady and lonesome as I’ve been described in the years.” He adds merrily. [Sad? Out of all adjective you can call Matt Bellamy, sad? Stupid, idiot, crazy, weird, impeded, dangerous for children’s health, verbally challenged…]
His mood is promptly ruined by a waiter of the hotel near place Vendome he’s staying at: “Excuse me, this table is booked. Do you mind moving the interview to another room?” [Ohnoyoudidn’t.] Ice fills the room. Bellamy gets up, his eyes search around for the band manager, then he nervously slips into another hall. He sits at a table, fiddles around with the iPod of the interviewer for a few minutes [RUDE.] and eventually speaks again.
Shutting him up this time is a pneumatic drill, deafening us from the floor above us. Crossroads time: will he get up and leave, or will he skate over it, holding on to his British phlegm?
Luckily, the latter option has the upper hand. “How nice. It’s not bothering me at all, it’s got a solid, potent sound, I should suggest something like this to my drummer, really.” He laughs. We’re over the hump, and a nice cup of hot coffee wipes away any residual anger.
“I’ve only been to one concert at the La Scala of football*; Ligabue. I didn’t know any of his songs; I just went to take my Italian girlfriend, keep her some company. I didn’t get any of the lyrics, but there’s one bit that got stuck in my head. It went something along the lines of ‘Lembrusc and popcooorn’.” [I truly hope he sang that line. The multiple Os hint that he did.]
[*La Scala is probably the most important theatre of both Milan and Italy. Somehow though I highly doubt Matt Bellamy was articulated enough to come up with a sentence like that. Yes, I don’t give Mr. Bellamy any credit whatsoever.]
Despite being the leader of one of the most popular bands in the world, Bellamy maintains an obstinate low profile, almost as if a part of him refused the fame that has overwhelmed Muse.
“The couple of days that followed the release of The Resistance changed my life forever. In that week I realised this was simply something that was impossible to ignore. ‘You’re number one in Italy, UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.’ Two days later, another call. ‘Number one in Germany, France and Spain too; number three in the US, 128’000 copies sold in five days.’ Not to mention the public praising coming from people like Brian May, Queen’s guitarist.”
In short, a planetary explosion that defeated for good every resistance the trio had about growing up. [Or, in Dom Howard’s case, growing old and face wrinkles.] “When it’s on global scale, success is like this powerful thunder- it deafens you, makes you dizzy, it changes your perception of the world; and sometimes, it can turn someone smart into a complete idiot. It hasn’t happened to me because [you were already an idiot] after I’ve realised what was happening I started to look for shadows in that sea of blinding lights. It’s not a matter of cosmic pessimism. I’ve always believed that in life there are some balances that need to be preserved at all costs. When your career goes too fast and gives you things and gratifications you wouldn’t have thought possible to achieve the week before, you shouldn’t let your guard down. It means you’re about to pay your bills, it means that life, after giving you a lot, is going to take something back.” [What a jolly fellow.]
Prophetic words with no hints to real life? “Unfortunately it’s all very real. The moment I reached my highest professionally I was left by the woman I love. She’s an Italian girl who lives in the area of Lake Como, where I bought a house to be with her.” Her, a psychology student; him, a rock star rising at a dizzily pace: they met in Milan seven/eight years ago and have been in love since. A love full of bicycle rides, fishing trips around the lake and episodes of Lost watched on the sofa.
[And now, let the ANGST begin and the tears flow as a sad French kid plays on a guitar with broken, untuned chords a deaftoned version of the Love Story tune. The saddest tune in the history of tunes.]
“To have your heart in pieces while every other aspect of your life couldn’t go better is a traumatic experience. In appearance, life is fine. But as you put your day in focus, everything turns grey. What happened made me realise that complete, absolute happiness doesn’t exist. She has left me, but I’m not giving up. I will do anything I’m capable of to win her back.” [You go, Matt Coco.] He says it all in one go, no pauses, voice slightly choked. “I’m going to try everything.” He insists to gather up some courage, looking at nowhere. [Quick, someone get the smallest violin in the world.]
To snap him out of it it’s enough to mention the magic word: Simona Ventura. A name that in Matt’s head conjures up an episode that had consequences that went beyond any prediction. “Our visit to Quelli che il calcio… proves that during live shows the smallest thing can turn into an avalanche. When we got to the studios we were told we had to mime. We thought we could at least keep the vocals live, but that wasn’t possible either. So, since we basically only had to stand there and mock ourselves, we thought we’d jazz it up a little bit, and decided to switch roles. In UK it’s a bit of a tradition when you’re forced to mime. I went to sit behind the drum kit and Dom walked up to the microphone, as I would have done. As the song was over we thought the joke would be over too.”
But all of a sudden things took a slightly different road. “The host jumped on Dom as if he was actually the frontman of the band, and started showering him with questions. He was quick on the uptake [for once] and went along with it, turning the whole thing into a rather surreal scene. She was talking to him thinking he was me, and he answered all the questions without giving himself away once, even when she asked him to compare my house to George Clooney’s. It was brilliant. In the UK people went crazy about it, and the video was viewed around 500 thousand times on YouTube.”
“The funny thing is” Dom remembers “that I had to learn the words by heart a few minutes before the show. [Oh piss off, we all know you know every single word Matt has penned by heart and sing them in the shower every morning, keeping a stack of daisies to go through heavy “He loves me, he loves me not” sessions.] To mix it some more I grabbed Chris’ bass. So as well as singing badly, I pressed the chords at random because I have no clue how to play bass.”
The tension is long gone: awkward waiters and pneumatic drills are forgotten, and Matt is contriving again. “If you want to know just how strong our relationship with Radiohead is, ask Dom here. He’s on splendid terms with Thom Yorke.”
Nice cue, except that… “Splendid terms my arse.” Says the drummer, astonished. “I respect them musically, but the last time I met him we almost started a fight; he treated me badly, looking down on me. Matt, do you spread around this bollocks?”
But Matthew is gone. He’s already sitting in another room, stifling a laugh.

This part made me giggle.

Yeah, I hope all goes well between Matt and Gaia. They seemed like a lovely couple and Matt obviously wants to win her back.

In the BDO interview, he said it had something to do with her seeing pictures on the internet of him dancing with some girl at a club and someone on the internet saying that he had been hitting on the girl or something, which apparently wasn't true (I've seen those pictures and it doesn't look like he's hitting on her, because no girl would be impressed by Matt's dancing :P). But it's probably more than just her seeing the pictures, since he had mentioned that they were going through some problems in an earlier magazine interview (Q magazine, I think) as well.
As for how he's going to win her back, I have no clue, but writing her a song probably doesn't hurt. ;)

Well if that was the case, I understand she felt bad, but leaving him? for pics? I don't know, something else might have happened there, if the pics were the problem, I'd go with him on tour if I was her, so I could keep him close, but that's me :P... let's see what happens.

I doubt Gaia left Matt just because of a few photos. I mean, they were together for so many years, I'm sure Matt has danced with plenty of girls during that time. :)

In the one interview that Gaia ever did, she did mention that she used to have jealousy issues with him (likely due to all the crazy Muse fans!) but that she had moved past it and learned to trust him. So whatever it is that broke these two up (probably NOT the dancing photos), I hope it's something that they can work out, because it sounds like they've already worked through a lot of issues in order to stay together for nearly 8 years, which is such a long time.
As for Matt's dancing, well, let's just say that I'm surprised the girl in the photos wasn't laughing her ass off when he was dancing with her. :P

Some fans are really crazy, I can tell, but again I think that after almost 8 years of relationship she might have gotten used to it maybe? Same thing goes to Chris' wife, and so far I've never heard about him going through hard times with his wife, again I am not that hardcore stalker to be sure, but I'm just saying

To be fair to Gaia, I think there's a difference being with the "frontman" of a band than being with other members of the band. The lead singer/frontman gets the bulk of the attention from the fans, media, etc. So it might actually be easier to be Chris's wife than Matt's girlfriend...

MUSE - Live At SXSW Presented By Myspace Music
After a week-long promotion of on-air teases on the FOX show "Human Target," it was announced during the show tonight that Muse will be playing a show presented by MySpace Music at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas. The show is this Friday, March 19 at Stubb's. Doors open at 7:30 PM and Metric will open.
The show will be open to SXSW badge holders and MySpace Music will additionally provide a replay of the concert on myspace.com/muse beginning on Sunday, March 21st.
This will mark the most intimate venue that Muse will play on their current tour. If you can't be there, be sure to check back to myspace.com/muse on Sunday for footage from this once-in-a-lifetime event.

I was definitely hoping so too, but I had a sneaking suspicion that it would be something like this - a nice thing to have, but nothing to get way too hyped up about. I'm still happy that we'll get a professional filmed live show to watch though, since I think it's time the boys put out a new live DVD, and this is the next best thing!

It's April Fools Day, so yeah it's a joke. :)
Ahaha, just realised that the Muse messageboard has prevented anyone from typing the words "April Fools Day"! They automatically replace those words with "Ultimate Muse Release Day".

not sure if this is an april fools joke or not?
Muse are set to play 27 live shows in the UK and Europe this summer and rather than pick the whole set for each show themselves, they'd like to know what songs you want to hear! choose the show you're going to and pick the three songs you'd most like Muse to play. The band will endeavour to include at least one from the top five in the setlist at each show!

I hope it's not! But seeing as though the whole April Fools thing is over on the Muse messageboard....
It'd be nice if there was an Australian tour to vote for! It's no surprise that Citizen Erased and Bliss seem to be winning all the polls right now.

Well I guess since April Fools is over, in Australia at least...
Basically Exogenesis Part 4 (Salvation) is just a weird version of Radiohead's Creep. You also get a Rich Costly "Remix" of Guiding Light with is just a kind of "chipmunk" sounding version of the song and they also included a live version of the "fan favourite", Feeling Good which is actually MK Ultra live.

Should this NOT be some cruel last-minute joke, I hope they also do this for the autumn North American tour. It seems they took some fan criticism seriously. Maybe I'll just vote Guiding Light in every poll just to tick people off. Except that they'll still probably play it anyway, so what's the point. :P
Anyway, I voted for your options (because you seem harmless enough), though I'm surprised Showbiz (the song) is doing so well. Maybe people are confusing it with the entire album as a whole, because there are way better songs off that album.

Again, what Violet said.
Oh  how come bands give away their good songs? Coldplay should have kept Gravity and given Embrace the cornflake song or something.
I am happy that they actually recorded it.
This is what Matt said about it:
"I wrote a song called ‘Soaked’ when we were making Black Holes and Revelations, it is just like ‘Nikita’ by Elton John or one of those kind of tunes from the 80s. According to our publisher, it’s an Adam Lambert-esque song, who took second place in American Idol. I want to write various genres of music, classical music, pop music, and anything. I suppose Muse have the clear distinction that we must not go overboard, however, I sometimes cross that threshold as a songwriter. When I’m about to do so, it's made clear thanks to Chris and Dom.”
Because apparently it's sold out, but you can still click on "Preorder now", it just doesn't work. :disappointed:

My roommate should be coming home from Coachella sometime in the middle of the night tonight. I'm tempted to wake up and shank him for seeing Muse without me (okay, maybe not shank him, but definitely inflict some sort of pain).
According to a flyer someone picked up at Coachella, word has it that Muse will play Honda Center and Staples Center in Los Angeles in September. So I guess that will be my turn finally (though which to go to? I can't do both unfortunately).
Tickets apparently go on sale in a week, so if the rumor is true, expect date announcements this week.
