Jen I'm so jealous!!
Good to hear you had a great time and thanks for sharing your videos!

I just got totally hyped when I saw that on one site I could select tickets for that concert I want to go to... but when I pressed "confirm" it said there are no more tickets :bigcry:
I'm checking that site for days now in the hope there will be some more tickets and this was the first time it looked like they actually had tickets but seems the site was just not loading properly.

:(

^No! and I was really surprised, too. Someone posted a setlist a while back from one of their first shows with U2- and Knights was on it, so I was kinda expecting it. Like I said, I'm wondering if maybe their set wasn't cut short a bit, forcing them to drop a couple of songs. BUT, I was THRILLED to hear Time is Running Out!

They have to play many songs from the new album at first and they cannot really choose a lot oldies.

jenflor
14-10-2009, 08:13 PM
yeah, I definitely understand that. But they played Uprising, Unnatural Selection and Undisclosed Desires from the new album... so really, the bulk of their 8 song set was made up of songs from Absolution and Black Holes.

don't forget the Sirius Muse event tomorrow afternoon... Krista posted the link for the online trial a page or two back...
I heard this morning they'll do an interview with the guys @ 9am EST and then at 12pm EST the guys "take over the station" playing music they love, etc. sounds pretty cool.

When do you guys think muse would anounce a tour of Australia if they saif it would be about mid next year?

its hard to predict when they will announce their BDO sideshows but hoping its still a few weeks away, i cant afford anymore distractions. but if you're in either brisbane, sydney or melbourne you're guaranteed at least one sideshow, either the day or two before or after your local BDO (so for sydney they are playing BDO on 22/1 and 23/1 so their side show will most probably be on the 20th) in the JMag article matt promised a tour at the end of 2010 where they are most likely to play the bigger venues. so you're looking at november or december in those big arenas coldplay played.

The Escapist
15-10-2009, 11:20 PM
Where would they play a sideshow at? Like Sydney? Whats the main difference between a sideshow and a full concert?

deaths_friend
16-10-2009, 02:56 AM
sideshows are the same as a full concert. the only difference being a "full concert" is when the band is on their own tour (not attached to any festival) whereas a sideshow happens when a band goes on a festival tour like the big day out but play their own seperate shows in most cities called sideshows. i know its a little confusing especially cos the concept of a sideshow and festival tour is pretty unique to australia. you will get a better understanding once they announce the dates.

if you want a good example check out muse's tour schedule for January 2007 when they did the big day out tour. http://muse.mu/tour-dates/archive/2007/1/

where would they play? the last 4 or 5 headliners of the big day out have done their side shows at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. but i think Muse is big enough to do a show at Acer Arena. we'll just have to wait and see.

anyone brave enough to predict a setlist for this tour? which songs will they keep from previous tours? can we expect a couple from Showbiz?

I would really like show songs from showbiz. Mainly cave, I love that song.

Im going to say it will be similar to HAARP except they will take out soilder's poem, microcuts, unintended, Blackout, Hoodoo. In their place probably all the tracks on the resistence except for the exogensis possibly and I belong to you.

deaths_friend
16-10-2009, 06:16 AM
im not too fussed about what songs they play. but here is the mix i would like (not that i think it will ever happen) and my ideal songs off each record but yeah doesnt bother me if they get played or not.

Showbiz- 2 songs (Cave and Muscle Museum)
OoS - 5 songs ( New Born, PIB, Citizen, Micro Cuts and Meglomania)
Absolution - 4 songs (SS, TIRO, B+H and Apocolypse Please:P)
BHAR - 4 songs (Knights of Cydonia, Supermassive, Assassin and Starlight)
Resistance - 6/7 songs. (whatever)

Total - 22 songs

in the past theyve usually played 17/18 songs. so jumping to 22 is pretty significant but it would be awesome.

Because without them twilight would die?
All the more reason for them not to contribute. :sneaky:

Seriously, it's annoying enough when people identify SMBH as "The Twilight Song". If Muse makes the lead single for the next installment (I hear there's like 4 total), then even though I know they're gunning for a more mainstream audience, doing it with Twilight would be in the worst possible fashion.

IDK why personally they're actually allowing it. However, I do happen to know that Muse is authro Stephenie Meyer's favorite band, so that definitely plays a role in Muse being considered for this stuff in the first place. She credits Muse for being part of her inspiration for the books.

IDK, I do like Twilight and Muse, but I can't stand hardcore Twilight fans who say they are Muse fans just cuz they like SMBH and happened to hear "Starlight" and relate Muse way too much to Twilight, that's why I thanked God when I saw that Coldplay wasn't on New Moon's ST, it'd be so sad to see lots of 12 year old girls screaming "ZOMG COLDPLAY ARE SO AWESOMEZ CUZ THEY ARE IN THE ST!!11!!"

I never really watched Twilight, but I'm glad that I never met one of those fangirls who say Muse is soooo AWESOME because they listened to one song of them. :dozey: I don't even think SMBH is the best song to get to know Muse ... it's a little different and not the typical Muse song, I think.

I like the remix, but the album version is a lot better. Matt's French singing is too cute to be cut out. :wacky:

The symphony would have been better being put together as one massive song instead of 3 parts on the album.

Imke
17-10-2009, 10:52 PM
That's true. I'm not listening to the three parts separately anyway.

Corkus
18-10-2009, 01:33 AM
The symphony is definitely meant to be listened to together. Having them all in one song would have made the album look too short, I guess.

I'm not a fan of Guiding Light either. It's the one flub on the album and it seems like a huge rip-off of Invincible, which I certainly prefer to it. But I LOVE Unnatural Selection. I agree that they could have cut a good half-minute from the middle, but the song is one of the best rockers on the album.

Yes! Well the cd I have it's pretty weird. The first time I tried to pass the songs into my computer ('cause I did not want to scratch the cd) it wouldn't let me do it at all and then I just got really frustrated and played it on the stereo instead. Two songs were indeed scratched but the 3rd time I listen to it.. it wasn't scratch anymore but it still doesn't let me burn the cd!! It's really frustrating 'cause I want to put it on my ipod:(

Wow... that's a gorgeous collection! I love all the artwork they used for the album, etc. very cool.

and, Hi Viri! :D

Hi Jen! :D

yeah but I did not want to download it as it takes time and it's faster to just copy...but now I'm just more curious as to why it won't let me copy it at all. Is it only my copy or did it do the same to everyone else?

The Escapist

This is the CD right? I didn't experience any problem with mine? What do you rip it into, Itunes? Is it just not coming up or just wont copy?

Those freaking stickers suck!

Mine had it too, but the Album was covered in plastic and the sticker was on the plastic so I didn't have that problem, I get those albums' stickers and paste them in my pencil case, I have the VLVODAAHF, Prospekt's March and now the Resistance one, I might post a pic later :)

Haha, cool. Somehow all the stickers are glued directly onto the cases here ... :dozey:

Nice, have you watched the hidden extras yet?

 Good that you said "hidden" because I probably would have never found out about these otherwise.
OMG, I love your boxset, but I already told you that. :bomb:

Okay ... I found a ticket for Hamburg next week on eBay for 80€ ... I really wanna buy this, but I don't actually have the money ... gaahh, I'd have to skip uni and ask for money ... I really want to do this ... but I don't know if this is really safe ... :bomb: Crap, I'm screwed. :bigcry:

I've just seen a program on TV with Muse. It had been recorded in Paris for a TV show. They sang "United States of Eurasia", "Resistance" and "Feeling Good" + Pop Corn which is an old instrumental song that was usually played by another band. The audience stood up during the whole show.

Ekmi, even on the album HAARP, they didn't play "Bliss" and it's a shame because it's quite a great song. I don't see what "Cave" looks like. I'm going to have a look as I never listen to it. I was delighted to see them at a TV show last evening.

FUCK, Stockholm -> Knights is going to be incredible if it's kept.

The set may well be shuffled and extended as time goes on though - hopefully.

Here's how first night breaks down:

7 off Resistance
4 off Black Holes
3 off Absolution (well technically 4 :P)
2 off Origin and Showbiz

Hmm, that's passable, though I won't be complaining when I'm actually there! Two weeks to go!! :D

Muse named world's best band at Q Awards

LONDON — Alternative rock band Muse was named the best act in the world at the Q awards in London on Monday, beating off competition from Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and Oasis.

Arctic Monkeys scooped the best live act award, following a battle with U2, Blur and Take That among others, while indie rockers Kasabian took home the prize for best album for "West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum".

Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant won the outstanding contribution to music award, one of several classic acts honoured by the readers of Q, a monthly pop and rock music magazine known for its interviews and exhaustive lists.

"Q remains proud of the fact that its awards recognising musical achievement and excellence during the past 12 months are decided by the nation's music fans, who once again have voted in their thousands," said the magazine's editor-in-chief Paul Rees.

"We are equally delighted to honour the enduring influence of those artists who have shaped our musical landscape and continue to do so."

Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, won the classic songwriter award, Edwyn Collins was named "Q legend", Spandau Ballet became the latest "Q idol" and Marianne Faithful was named "Q icon".

White Lies was named best new act, Mr Hudson won the prize for breakthrough artist, Lady GaGa won best video for "Just Dance," and Lily Allen's "The Fear," her second number-one single, was named best track.

The Specials were honoured for being an inspiration, Sonic Youth for their innovation in sound and Frankie Goes to Hollywood for a classic song "Relax," while U2's "The Unforgettable Fire" was named Q classic album.

As the three gigs I had tickets to now are past me, I feel a bit sad. Oh, well, only two weeks until London, woo!

Ah, Muse are so d*mn amazing I don't know how to start. The gig in Oslo was probably the best, overall, even though they ditched the songs off Showbiz and did Feeling Good instead, which is the worst song ever. And Helsinki Jam is SO lovely! <3

Yes, the setlists are a bit boring, and it's sad that they won't include that many more "obscure" tracks, those us Muse fanatics really, really want to hear from time to time! But on the other hand, that's just the way it is I suppose.

Now, rant over.

Well, I have heard some of their stuff and definitely should hear more, but I'm afraid I'll like it...
Half of my Facebook friends are Muse fans... the band is becoming bigger and bigger and I think there are more than enough people who are mad about them... that's why I don't want to become a part of that mass, that's why I didn't want to admit myself that I like Coldplay...
But... when I saw some videos of Muse performances, I was completely blown away... they're such a GREAT band... so, what should I do?
God, I'm really weird

^If you like it, enjoy it. Screw what everyone else thinks. I got into them when NO ONE else around here had a clue who they were. I had to pester the staff at the record store for some of their albums- there just wasn't enough demand to keep it in stock. Doesn't mean that I'm going to stop liking them just because they're on the discount racks now.

The cream does occasionally rise to the top, even in the music industry.

^^ More new stuff!! I love it, very pretty song. Got a rather USoE riff in there too..

Apparently Adam Lambert is going to have a cover of that song on his new album

Lyrics:

Soaked to the bone
And sink like a stone
Walk home alone
It’s not the first time
It’s not the worst crime
Your soul will be OK

When you’ve had enough searching for love
And you miss the touch
Of someone new

Burned by your dreams
It's never how it seems
Cold crushed esteem

Take shelter and hide forever
Your soul will be OK

When you’ve had enough
Searching for love
But you miss the touch
Of someone new

I’ve had enough
Searching for love
But I miss the touch
Of someone new

Soaked to the bone
Sink like a stone
I will take you home
Its not the first time
It’s not the worst crime
Our souls will be OK

Hi everyone. :nice:
I'm back from Hamburg and I've got some pics and stories for you. :wacky:
Sorry for the quality of the pics ... I only had my crappy mobile and my old digicam.

I had an amazing time ... :awesome: The guys are perfect live ... and by perfect I really mean perfect.
I made it to second row ... but that changed quite a few times, because the crowd was pushing so badly ... incredible. It was like waves going through the audience and at times the only thing I could move was my head. :laugh3:
So ... I couldn't take that many pics, because during certain songs it was simply impossible to even think about taking a pic. :D No videos either ... the security guys in front of me stopped everyone who tried to take videos. :\

Matt had some problems with his mic during Unnatural Selection, so a roadie had to bring him another one ... only he forgot about it during the guitar solos and kept on singing into the wrong mic, then he noticed it and wandered with a little smile to the other mic. After Unnatural Selection Matt threw his mic into the crowd ... you would think he'd throw away the broken one, but he threw the working one instead and when the lights went out before the encore a roadie suddenly "emerged" in front of us with a flashlight looking for the mic. Everyone was trying to point into the direction the mic went ... but he didn't find it.
After the show I heard some guy saying that he and another guy both caught the mic, but that the other one was hit by it on the head and started to bleed pretty badly ... :stunned:

Like I said ... it was amazing. I'm broke but happy that I decided to go after all. :awesome:

Random Muse thought for the day-

I had my mp3 player hooked up to the stereo today and it was on an all-Muse shuffle (5 albums + Dead Star EP). Not only that, but the best mix of Muse songs I think I had ever heard.

And then I noticed that it wasn't on shuffle, it was going through the songs alphabetically. I made it past 'H'. It took me until well after the "D"s to notice.

Try it. It's frighteningly good how well the songs fit together that way- a nice combination of albums and styles.

is Uprising the best song to open with? i cant think of any alternatives right now but it doesnt seem like the best one.

On the HAARP DVD they opened with Knights of Cydonia, it was truly epic (and I wasn't even there!) So I'd say that's probably a better opener. It's also a great closer, though.

Concert Review - Muse @ ColorLineArena / Hamburg - October 28th, 2009

Around here, I don't know how's in Mexico City or other big cities, I don't get to hate them or to feel like they're singles because I never listen to any of these songs on the radio, just heard Coldplay and Green Day sometimes but it's quite hard, therefore I don't listen to the raidio.

Hola!

I can't believe we managed to leave that venue's car park in the end - never seen such a bad organisation...
But we did it (more than 2,5 hours after the gig has ended though), so here I am, back from seeing Muse with Perrine!

We arrived at the incredibly hideous venue somewhat after 3pm... Luckily it's only ugly from the outside.
I took a friend with me who didn't manage to get a ticket so the hunt for a ticket began!
We made a small sign and hoped we would succeed.
In the end she bought a ticket from a scalper who gave her the ticket for a good price, considering the amount others wanted.

So we waited in front of the gates in the rain...
Looking back I'm surprised how fast the time passed.
We got inside and saw that you could go to the pit area with a seated ticket as well! Nobody was checking!! :stunned:

I had to work until 5am the night before though so me and my friend went upstairs to go get a seat while Perrine left her stuff with us and went to the pit.

Wow, the concert was great!
The beginning with the silhouettes walking up the stairs, the lights in the windows switching on and off, the pillars moving, the fog fountains... amazing!
But the stage seemed so small! I would've thought it was bigger.

They have this amazing laser show during New Born, here's a short video:

YouTube - Muse - Amneville - New Born
But the video can't really capture what it was like to see it live. :(

I'm uploading my other videos at the moment but it'll take aaaaaages!

It was awesome to hear all these songs live!
The piano Matt is playing has these cool light effects and he's a brilliant piano player and guitarist. :awesome:
Same goes for Dom on the :drummer:
I loved that little part with Chris standing behind Dom and the pillar going up and down.
What am I saying - I loved the whole concert!
We were dancing and singing the whole time and I was happy that ppl in the seated area were standing.

I'll post my videos here once they're uploaded.

That's true.
But usually great songs that become singles get played to death by radio stations.

True, true. That's why I'm kinda glad that the only radio stations around my area either play older music ('60s, '70s, etc.), former Top 40 hits, or classical.

Anna !
I'm amazed how you always find the strength to write reviews :D

Anyway, the show was so so so great ! I was alone in the pit at the 10th row or so, so the waiting was a bit boring... til the support act, and a few minutes after they started playing I was hoping for them to stop :P Really seemed like they smoke hundreds of joints before coming on stage, and we couldn't hear the singer so it was basically noise...

Then, Muse! The visual effects were mind-blowing, I love the idea of the cubes on which they were playing !
Gosh they had so much energy, I just wanted to jump all the time ! And their songs are so catchy (my favs were New Born, Hysteria, Supermassive black hole, Undisclosed desires, Plug in baby and Kinghts of Cydonia :wacky:) and some guitar/bass lines are killing me :dead: Now I think I'm getting a bit crazy about them haha :P

The few bad points were that they only played 16 songs, even shorter than their previous shows, it's okay cause I was already really happy with their choices, except that they got rid of Feeling good(:stunned:) and Map of the Problematique...
The crowd was quite lame too, sometimes you just felt like you weren't at a Muse show, people weren't moving nor singing the lyrics... Some people were so annoying cause they were trying to get at the front by pushing people while pretending they were dancing... One drunk guy went in front of me, I didn't like that so I grabbed him by the shoulder and pushed it behind me, he was just like taller and way less skinny than me haha :D

I so wanna see them again ! I  Muse
Aw I got some quite good pictures, I'll post them asap !

Hola!

I can't believe we managed to leave that venue's car park in the end - never seen such a bad organisation...
But we did it (more than 2,5 hours after the gig has ended though), so here I am, back from seeing Muse with Perrine!

I'll be seeing them again in 10 days :D

Dunno if I'll bring along my camera again though. Would be nice to bounce around this time instead of keeping steady shots :P

Sure, sometimes you just wanna enjoy the moment ! But you don't have to take pics during the whole show :nice:

Btw it's not official yet but they should come to Paris the 12th of June, and my exams will finish on the 11th :bomb:
