This is why we love Muse...

I hope you're joking. This kind of behaviour is exactly why, with time, I'm gonna get to dislike Muse.

They come drunk on stage, mess up a song that isn't even theirs, showing how they don't give a fuck about respect to the audience, and thousands of young morons love it, because it's oh so cool. Muse are great musicians and if they made music seriously, they could be as good and interseting as Radiohead, but instead they just fool around on stage and fans ask for more.

In twenty years, what people will remember about Muse is this gross Feeling Good performance instead of Citizen Erased or Space Dementia. This is ridiculous.

miss capa
23-12-2007, 01:13 PM
I'm not joking, and that's exactly how I felt when I first saw it...

but over time, it gets a little amusing and then a little more amusing and soon enough I actually laugh at it...

But I ain't saying we love Muse cus they're drunk all the time, I was talking about their antics, its this stuff that makes them interesting...correct me if you think I'm a nuthead, but I find Muse more entertaining than Coldplay, thus Muse have overtaken as my No.1 band. It's their music that I love the most, but with an added bonus of the band members actaully being entertaining (with all the ridiculousness)

Plus, I don't care what the world thinks, they're Muse, and I love them...even if they are complete drunks!:P

Now, I need to go to bed, it's getting late...cheers everone!:lol:

Never mind, it's OK. But think a little about it and you'll realise that if they were seriously involved in the song more than in sitcom-like humour while they're playing, their live performances would be way better and more interesting. My favourite concert of all time is Pink Floyd's P.U.L.S.E, and when those guys are on stage, they're not joking, they're mind-blowing. This is the difference between funny and good.

I think that performance (no, not the pink floyd one, drunk performance 5 posts up), is really good, exept the part were he is starts swearing...I just don't understand why they got no audience reaction...at all...

Hey. I heard a song by Muse on Video Hits and it was them playing on a big boat.
I forgot the name of the song, but I liked it. And am now more curious about the Muse (cos I was always interested before). What was the name of that song. And if I liked it, what other songs/album would I like?

as mentioned that song is called Starlight and it's off their latest album: Black Holes and Revelations. I would say start with that album since you have heard that song.. After that go with Absolution, their 3rd Album. A lot of great songs on there. Then I would recommend Origin of Symmetry (their 2nd album). So basically I am telling you to go in reverse because I think that is the best way to go since you heard that song.. Their first album, Showbiz is great too but get used to these before you go there. Then there is a off album called Hullabaloo that is really cool.

Hope that helps.. :D

and then you HAVE TO GO SEE THEM LIVE!!! they are a LIVE band and their shows will blow your mind. Go to youtube and check out some of there live performances.. You will be hooked for sure!

No many do, but your all wrong, Muse was always about trying new things and evolving their sound. Absolution pushed them far in the classical, metally, doomy way that this time round they fancied their hand at pop. Sure Starlight is their biggest hit, its got the most appeal but that logic and reasoning not Muse selling out.

But its not their best song :) its just proof they succeed at whatever they try.

My top 30 (may evolve after rank 15, depends on my mood) :

01 - Citizen Erased
02 - Space Dementia
03 - Hyper Chondriac Music
04 - Showbiz
05 - New Born
06 - Hysteria
07 - Map Of The Problematique
08 - Fury
09 - Shine Acoustic
10 - Shine
11 - Map Of Your Head
12 - Knights Of Cydonia
13 - Sunburn
14 - Hate This And I'll Love You
15 - Soldier's Poem
16 - Apocalypse Please (including intro)
17 - Take A Bow
18 - Glorious
19 - Hyper Music
20 - Supermassive Black Hole
21 - Eternally Missed
22 - Spiral Static
23 - Ruled By Secrecy
24 - Piano Thing
25 - Falling Away With You (including interlude)
26 - Bedroom Acoustics
27 - Execution Commentary
28 - Yes Please
29 - Falling Down
30 - Forced In
30 - Megalomania

For the least faves, two categories :
- Just non-good songs (IMO) taking space on albums whereas there could be great B-Sides instead : Sober, Overdue (they should've put the Muse EP version), Assassin (Grand Omega Bosses Edit is wonderful, but the album ver bores me)

- Usually popular useless SO-COMMERCIAL songs that when you get the album and listen to it you can say to yourself "this one sucks, they'll make it a single" : Bliss (arpeggios are great, but hey, the chorus music is based on a single C chord !), Plug-In Baby (the "I've seen all you're loving, mine is gone" bridge rocks, the rest sucks, especially live), Time Is Running Out, Starlight.

Each new album they release the weakest song as a single, which is why I always get pissed off about Muse marketing. Radio listeners only know Muse's least interesting songs, which is bad IMO.

Really? I must have completely different taste in music to you (which is perfectly ok ;)) because I totally love all the songs you despise .
Bliss- Amazing arpeggios and I now love Muse even more for turning one of the most boring chords in music into one of my favourite songs!

Off topic. I just came back from shopping (I left halfway through writing this) and my cousin was watching something on youtube. I can see the screen of the computer he's using and he was watching the Hysteria video clip! Lol...

Anyway, you, Circus Minor, have made me love Muse more because I realise the simplicity of their music. It's simple but so amazingly perfect. The only Muse songs I can't listen to are the one that make me cry...

^Which means you like it more or less than Plug-In Baby ?

IMO, if you're talking about a good song, the longer the better (my favourite song ever is Echoes by Pink Floyd, which is very very long, and I'm basically a prog lover)

Marek, I am really serious about CE and PIB. It's as clear in my opinion as in yours, but the other way : Citizen Erased >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Plug-In Baby

However, I know I can have strange taste or opinion about music, so I understand why you don't agree.

And Miss Snicket : if you manage to like Bliss even though it's this simple, then you are very lucky, 'cause i've been bored by it for a while by now. But about the simplicity, well, the most simple Muse songs are not usually the ones I love the best (check my list). And just because TIRO, Bliss, PIB and Assassin (album ver) are outrageously simple doesn't mean all Muse songs are - CE, Space Dementia, Newborn, Hyper Chondriac Music, Showbiz and Hate This And I'll Love you are everything but simple.

In the end, I don't want most Muse fans to hate me, so please don't get pissed about my strangeness (if i am strange).

You aren't strange, it's the 8yr old girls at my school who love Fergie and Britney Spears are the ones who I think are strange.

Lol, to settle everything, I personally love Plug in Baby more because I tend to dislike songs that drag (I would like Paranoid Androind more if it didn't have that really slow bit towards the end). Plus, I'm learning the song on guitar...it's freakin awsome to play.

I can't stop listening to TIRO, I love the bass and the beat...but my friend still says 'eww' to the line "Now that you know I'm trapped, since ovulation"

Lol, I love Bebe, she's so funny. :laugh3:

Muse's Matt Bellamy has claimed that their new album could be a "50-minute symphony".

Bellamy said that he wasn't sure in what format the band's new music would be released, or what it would sound like, but said it was likely that the group would go up their "own arses" on their next LP.

He told NME: "We're probably going to go up our own arses more than we have in the past, based on the fact that we'll be recording in our own studio. What will come out of that is impossible to say.

"It may just be albums, but it may be a stream of singles, or it may just be one 50-minute symphony, do you know what I mean? Who knows?"

Muse are currently working on the follow-up to 2006's Black Holes and Revelations.

^ Well it definiteley depends on what you look for in a song. And we apparently don't look for the same things.

Miss Snicket : Citizen Erased is really great to play too. Especially if you have a piano on which you can finish the song after breaking your neighbours' ears with your saturated guitar ^^

Michael Eavis has ruled out four massive acts who were previously rumoured to headline Glastonbury Festival 2008. But confirmed one of them for V!

Glasto favourites Radiohead, Muse and Coldplay will definitely NOT play this year's event, according to the 72-year-old farmer.

But he confirmed they were invited to play and insisted that they will be back at Worthy Farm in years to come.

He told VF during an exclusive interview: "When it suits them they’ll come and do it and if it doesn’t happen they’ll do something else.

"We can call on old friends, like Coldplay, but they’ve all done it so many times that it’s not fair for me to expect them to do it over and over again."

When asked about Muse, Eavis answered: "No because they’re doing the V’s [V Festival] aren’t they? They can’t do both really, it doesn’t really work doing both."

He also confirmed that Led Zeppelin were unsuccessfully approached for Glastonbury, but denied rumours the reformed rockers demanded too much money.

He said: "The money didn’t come into it, but the fact that Robert Plant is going to America with Alison Krauss during that period means that they are not available. It was nothing to do with money whatsoever.”

Glastonbury Festival takes place at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset, from 27-29 June. Stay posted for the full interview with Michael Eavis and more exclusive Glastonbury news.

It's actually more fun to play on the guitar too than PIB IMO. :laugh3: And the drums too... and probably the bass too. :laugh3: The bass is a lot... bassier in CE, which I like. I like my room-shaking basslines, thank you. :laugh3:

I wish I had someone else to play with--there's nothing better than letting that final harmonic in the intro hang then coming in with the huge bass line, the lovely crash cymbals, and the dropped A guitar tuning...

The meaning of this song is unknown, but some have suggested that it could also be about his love for the electric guitar, and how he only has to plug it in and play, for all his critics to be proven wrong ('crucifies my enemies'). Bizarrely, it could be about genetically engineering puppies to remain young and live forever, as Matt Bellamy has stated jovially in a magazine interview

Then again, Matt did say that he wishes gravity were a little lighter so all spiders would die (not sure how that'd work) and that he believes we evolved from spiders and that they float around in space.

Note: Spiders have eight legs, we have eight finger...meh.

An extract from a news article on NME's website taken from bbc radio 6.

“We are doing a couple of one-offs [gigs],” he said. “For example, we're doing the Albert Hall Teenage Cancer Trust show in April, then we'll do the V Festival and a couple of other sort of 'holiday' gigs.

“We're gonna do Dubai. We actually wanted to go there anyway [on holiday] but we might as well do a gig there to pay for the trip. It's the same with South America. We might go down for a sort of half-holiday and do a couple of gigs, because we have never been there before."

Speaking to Xfm straight after picking up the award for Best Live Band, Muse's Matt Bellamy and Chris Wolstenholme were only too happy to discuss plans for 2008 with UK dates and a brand new album in the pipeline.

As Matt told Xfm, they'll only have time for one festival: "V Festival - yeah we're looking forward to that. We haven't done that for a few years and we can't wait to do it.

"We’re gonna try and do something quite spectacular – we'll try and get a UFO to come in and land on everyone's heads or something. We’ll definitely do something of a Spinal Tap embarrassment level.”

Known for their high-energy, visually appealing live shows, the boys from Devon were glad to snatch at least this award from "those cheeky Northerners" Arctic Monkeys, who swept up at last night's bash picking up three awards.

Playing only at V this year will mean that Muse will have time to record a new album. Matt spoke further about ideas they'll be hoping to develop: "There might be a bit more Supermassive Black Hole-type stuff, a bit more electronic dancey stuff, and some stuff with an orchestra - we've always wanted to do that".

On the collaborations front, Matt didn't rule out the possibility of taking Muse in some uncharacteristic directions: "I'd like to get Timbaland to rap on something for a laugh... I'd love to write a song for Amy Winehouse [for the next James Bond theme], but I think she's busy with that Mark Ronson bloke..."

UFOs and Timbaland collaborations aside, Muse are sure to serve up some tasty live shows and recordings over the next few months so be sure to keep your ear to the ground.

Matt Bellamy's mum to get Best Live Band Award

Muse’s Matt Bellamy is to turn his Shockwaves NME Award into an unlikely wedding present.

The band picked up the award for Best Live Act at last night’s (February 28) ceremony in London, and the singer said he was planning to give their trophy to his mother ahead of March 1.

“I’ve got a couple of NMEs on my mantlepiece. This one I’m going to have to give to my mum to see if it will go on her mantelpiece and offend the neighbours,” Bellamy told NME.COM. “There should be at least one offensive statue on everyone’s mantlepiece.”

Drummer Dominic Howard, meanwhile, thanked the fans and expressed the band’s delight at winning in the live category.

“It feels amazing to win an NME award, it looks cool and it’s a good solid bronze piece,” he said. “It feels good to get Best Live Band again.

"We like playing live, we like putting every once of energy and soul into it and it’s good to be recognised. Anything that’s voted for by fans means the most, clearly.”

They're showing it in cinemas in the UK....I really really really really want to go, but like my parents would just lend me $1000 to fly over the the UK to watch some DVD of a band my mum pronounces 'moose' (mo, seriously). I've banned her from saying it.

Read all about the Teignmouth stadium giants in this week’s NME

Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has revealed his plans for the band’s future.

The star explained that he’d like their next album to feature more prog influences as well as a dancier feel.

Talking to NME, the singer and guitarist said: "I think on the next album I’d like to do at least one 15-minute space-rock solo."

He added: "Apart from that, ‘Supermassive Black Hole’ (2006 UK Top Five single) opened up a new area for us of dancing, grooving, rhythm section-dominated songs. I’d love to do more stuff like that really."

Read more about Muse’s future plans, including their new focus on singles and their forthcoming headlining V Festival performance, in this week’s NME, out in all good newsagents now.

Worth seeing that they are considering going down the route taken by The Smiths and early Morrissey, by releasing a number of stand-alone singles, before releasing a best-off, bringing those singles together in one package.

StephenG
12-03-2008, 08:57 PM
It was already said before, but seriously NME have just posted two contradictory stories, I doubt they even spoke to Muse.

Xfm has muse talking on the radio and they stated more Supermassive black hole like things were in the cards, I really want to see how they can take this intresting new sound they discovered even further.

SBH was propably the best song on BHAR, Muse seem inclined to never stay still.

wait,there is knights of cydonia

Epic rock songs like that are far from what muse started out doing. BLAR to me felt like they were trying to be less heavy when heavy would have worked better, assasination is to me a missed opportunity.

But id still argue a band should never stay still, they've never stayed still yet and from what ive heard theres no plan.

miss capa
14-03-2008, 12:56 PM
My favourite Muse songs are their most rocky/exotic songs like Uno and Darkshines and CoD but their other stuff appeals to me. In fact, I like pretty much all the styles of music they've covered so any change shouldn't bother me

miss capa
14-03-2008, 12:57 PM

Yeah, same with my friend in a way. She used to love pop, RNB, techno and other fake crap like that but I started playing Muse to her and she loves them so much that when we were on camp, we were jumping around clapping and singing Time is Running Out all the time.
She also like Feeling Good and other stuff but she isn't as die hard as I am, her favourite singer is Hannah Montana :\

(If you don't know who that is, she's a stupid little American pop singer who has her own show and a whiny voice)

RA-D
29-03-2008, 12:33 PM
I didn't mean the studio version, I meant it sounds like a radio session or some such recording. If you compare it to the Glastonbury show or even the Trabendo DVD it just doesn't sound like a big show should, not enough crowd interactivity or volume.

I agree about the camera angles switching too much too, this is an afflication of nearly every modern music concert production.

miss capa
29-03-2008, 12:44 PM
I must admit the sounds isn't 'big' enough for the size of the show but I still love it to pieces. And yeah the camera angles to change a li'l too much. I HATE how they hardly show Matt playing guitar in Unintended. The song means so much to me becuase it's the song that inspired me to take up guitar and to not be able to see Matt physically play the guitar for the most of the song kills me!!!

"Dance of the Knights (from romeo and juliet) opus 64, performed by the st. petersburg kirov orchestra. And track 2 contains "close encounters of the 3rd kind", which ironically is the music which took oasis to the stage back in the don't believe the truth tour (the close encounters, this is not a test...)
