How many times in your life are you going to see Muse with 75,000 people around?

Ok, I think you may have just convinced me to get a ticket. :stunned:

I'm gonna ask for birthday money to get a ticket. That's it. OMG.

Hey, everyone. I just discovered Muse today. I got Black Holes & Revelations. It's amazing. This is my new shit. Take A Bow sounds a lot like Philip Glass to me. He's one of my fave artists. He's a minimalist composer. I'm really impressed with this album. I'm going to have to get into their old stuff now. Anybody know any artists like them. I'd love to know. Thanks.

I'd like to think that if Jeff Buckley, Queen and Radiohead had a baby, Muse would be it. But I can say I have ever heard an individual band that sounds like Muse.

OMG I'm stuck in an awful situation : Muse are coming to play in a Paris stadium (very close to my place), but the venue is June 23rd, and I've got a very hard series of exams beginning on th 20th. So'Im buying a ticket, hoping I won't have to be anywhere faraway in France on this particular day.

For those who live in the States and would like to buy a Muse DVD via Internet, I strongly advise to buy Japanes ones, because they are in NTSC format and include one more track on each one :

- Dark Shines on Hullabaloo : For me the best song in the concert.
- Citizen Erased on Absolution Tour : "

Talking about Hullabaloo, this DVD kinda disappointed me : It's recorded at Le Zιnith, which provides one of the worst sound qualities in France, and I find Matt's singing and playing guitar really not good at all (compared with what he's technicaly capable of).

If you mean the second disc, I think it's worth a view, and the B-Sides soundtrack is fine, but as a French-not-very-good-at-understanding-spoken-English, I felt sort of a lack of subtitles. The Slipknot mask sequence is hilarious, as well as when they wrote "You are going to lose" on one of the Weakest Link desks.

What: Muse Live In Singapore
When: Tuesday, 16 January 2007 at 8pm
Where: Fort Canning Park. Tickets available through SISTIC

"Rock music for clever people" seems like a terribly pompous way to describe one of the most powerful rock bands on planet Earth.

However the tag — bestowed upon them by countless rock music critics — is one that English trio Muse find most amusing.

"The music we make has a lot of depth to it. So, I would consider the people who listen to our music cool, smart and intelligent people," drummer Dominic Howard told TODAY with a laugh in a phone interview from his home in London.

The critically-acclaimed band — famous for their blend of indie and progressive rock, but best known for their energetic live performances — will play at Fort Canning park on Tuesday evening.

It is the group's first visit to these shores and one that is highly anticipated. According to concert promoters LAMC Productions, they have sold over 6,000 tickets for the one-night-only event.

But, before you think Howard is taking himself a bit too seriously, he breaks into chuckles.

"You don't have to be intelligent like us," he said, reassuringly. "Music is about provoking emotions. If you feel something for what we do, then that's great."

If there's one thing that's surprising — and refreshing — about this 29-year-old, it is that despite being part of one of rock's biggest bands, Howard isn't one to let success get to his head.

It would be perfectly understandable, though, if he were to let his success rule his ego.

After all, since Muse appeared on the rock scene in 1999 with their debut album Showbiz, the Devon-based trio have fashioned a distinctive kaleidoscopic rock sound built on a steady diet of Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Pink Floyd and Queen.

Last year's Black Holes and Revelations became the band's biggest hit so far: The album hit the No 1 spot in nine countries and has sold almost 2 million copies around the world.

In Singapore, the album has sold over 15,000 copies since it was released in July.

It is clear that Muse — made up of Howard, bassist Chris Wolstenholme and guitarist and frontman Matthew Bellamy — are on top of their game.

Revered music magazine Q recently crowned the band 2006's Best Live Act, putting them ahead of bookie favourites U2 and Coldplay.

And it just keeps getting better. Last month, the band announced that they are slated for a gig in the rebuilt 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium in London next June.

The tickets sold out in under an hour.

"I'm definitely pleased with how Muse have grown," Howard gushed as he discussed the band's good fortunes.

"People may talk about U2 and Coldplay ruling the rock world, but I don't think people can argue with us after selling out the Wembley Stadium," he said, laughing.

"I think it just proves that we have a big fanbase which enjoys watching us perform live. But that's also because the whole industry is changing. Not a lot of bands are selling as many albums as before.

"But, for us, the live element is growing massively. So, it's a healthy sign, if nothing else."

What makes Muse so endearing, perhaps, is their continuing eccentricity. Their reputation for outlandish conspiracy theories involving UFOs, futurism and the supernatural have garnered them a cult following which includes celebrities such as Justin Timberlake, The Killers' Brandon Flowers and even Paris Hilton (who was reportedly turned away backstage because singer Bellamy couldn't be bothered to meet her).

"What? Are you telling me you don't believe in conspiracy theories?" bellowed Howard, when queried over their affinity for the left field.

"Everything that Matt sings about we agree with," he said.

"It's pretty 'out there', but these are things we talk about around dinner or in the recording studio," he added, before going off on a tale of government conspiracy and alien abduction.

Howard was clearly in a chatty mood — unusual for a man who famously detests doing interviews.

"Oh, I just had a break for Christmas," he explained. "I took a nice long breather at the Virgin Islands. It was nice because, just before that, we were doing our European tour, which was the longest tour we've done.

"It was totally amazing playing such huge gigs, but we were totally exhausted by the end of it all."

Still, the rocker is ready to roll again.

"I've been looking forward to playing in Singapore," he enthused. "Some people have told me 6,000 may be a far cry from the tens of thousands we're used to.

"But I assure you, we will put on a storming show nonetheless." - TODAY/so

Muse is actually better live..
I hate to say it..
But Muse was just unbelievable, the energy is amazing, and the crowds are always really into it..

At all the Coldplay concerts I have been too, the crowd was pretty mixed..
There were the folks like me dancing and stuff, then there were the people who just sat there, at Muse, everrrry one was dancing and singing.

Maybe Coldplay will be different in L.A, because everyone is looking forward to the show, since it has been so long awaited.

totally saw muse at their gig on the 23rd :D
was less than a metre from the stage
had to move further out after an hour because we couldn't breathe though
the guys in the mosh were psycho and alot less considerate than last time i saw muse
they were elbowing, and kicking all the girls, and pushing and shoving
made me incredibly angry cos 2 years ago, the boys in the mosh were always lookingout for the girls to make sure we were okay.

anyway long story short, muse were awesome as expected, but i had more fun last time i saw them in 2004.

Haha, Even live, Coldplay cannot touch Muse, Coldplay have a lot of gimics to look like a better, more humble live band, But with Muse live, they don't really need to talk half the show to have a good crowd connection, and they just play.
They don't attempt to forget words to songs, they don't run out into the crowd, they don't lie down on the stage for no really apparent reason, and they at least change up setlists from night to night, and play b-sides, and songs other than singles.
Coldplay has potential to be as good as Muse, but they are too wrapped up in EMI's assholes. Which is very sad.

Wow. I just saved more pictures of Muse (612) in a few weeks than I did Coldplay pics (600) in... a few years. :freak:

But I still have more Coldplay pics :smug: --I have 500 that I took. :laugh3:

I just got my tix to see Muse in the mail today!

I still <3 Coldplay--I'm not as obsessed with them as I am with Muse ATM, but, I'm not going to a Coldplay concert within the next 2 months unlike Muse. :laugh3: Upcoming concerts kinda get me... obsessed. :uhoh:

CP news is going kinda slow so... it's kinda hard to keep interest in a band that hasn't really been doing anything for the past few months. :/

Muse on the other hand... :wink3:

I feel really bad because I was voted biggest Chris/Coldplay fan. :laugh3:

I didn't even campaign for the Coldplay fan part! Ah!

Don't worry though--I haven't forgotten Coldplay. :)

Radiohead is too..pretentious.
But thats only my opinion.

Well I think in no way one can compare Radiohead with Muse.

My opinion is that Radiohead IS the greatest band around today, from far, but Muse share comfortably the second place with The Mars Volta in my heart.

Where have you found that Radiohead are pretentious ?

mandymcnabb
06-02-2007, 12:52 AM
Dont get me wrong, I like Radiohead, they are all right, But Thom Yorkes voice is annoying to me, I like some of there songs, where it isnt such an extreme whining pitch, but I would never consider them to be anything like Muse, and cannot see where comparisons come from, because I hate Thom's voice, but I looooove Matt'.

And they seem to try to hard to me to seem strange, and alienesque.
Or just like they are much different than anyone else.
I haven't really researched them before, so I could be wrong, but thats just how they seem to me. But maybe they aren't pretentious, I dunno.
Maybe they are really weirdos.

Hahah :laugh4:

Muse is one of my favourite bands but at the moment coldplay it's pretty much interesting for me... maybe it's because the concert (in 9 days I'll see them) so now it's all about coldplay.... but I know that muse concerts are soooo great-.... I can't wait to see them live... hope someday they'd come here

I agree with Mandy, I don't think Coldplay comes close to Muse in terms of live performance. Muse is just crazeeee, so much energy! They don't make you want to cry.

I don't like them very much. But maybe Muse do. And as they're kickass superstars, maybe they want to, you kno, support MCR. Or maybe they haven't sold as many records in the States as necessary for their producers to program proper-Muse concerts.

mandymcnabb
07-02-2007, 08:15 PM
They've toured the states before, they may not have as many fans as MCR, but Im sure they have enough fans in the states to tour with out supporting MCR, as I have seen them live in the states before.

I was watching MCR's best live performances and they're pretty lame... Muse has so much more depth--damn 14-year-old girls that make MCR popular. :bigcry: MCR has no depth and they have 2 members more than Muse. :laugh3:

MCR??? Are they serious? Were they actually in their right minds when they agreed to it? I can see how the never breaking North America thing could get annoying, but is it really nessesary to side with the emos to get some exposure?

I doublechecked the Muse website and couldn't find anything about it, but sure enough, there was a big hole in the tour schedule that lined up perfectly with those dates. Maybe they haven't said anything about it because they're embarrased. :idea2:

I suppose it takes a very brave band to follow Muse onstage... with any luck, Muse will so completly put them in their place, that all the teenybopper fans will wake up and realise that there's actually something better out there....er...not likely.

Briggins
08-02-2007, 04:40 AM
I'm a huge U2 fan, and I've seen U2 live and they totally kick butt. But I think Muse is better at this point live.

Lets not forget U2 are a few years older than Muse.

Space Cadet
08-02-2007, 04:45 AM
I don't doubt they kicked butt... I mentioned it because they're among the best out there live. And I don't think it's age, either. Muse has a different kind of intensity that I quite like from what I've seen of it.

Though I think I'd feel alot safer at the front at a U2 concert...

yellow_fever
