My mom worships the ground Eddie Vedder walks on, so I was taught at a very young age to do the same. We have all of the albums, and some we have more than one copy of. Like Ten. We have Ten on vinyl, cassette, and CD. Because we're scary like that.

I saw them in concert this summer. They are great live. Very great band. They played a great Chicago show since eddie is originally from this area. The crowd was great! Really into it!
I like all their old stuff. I haven't listened to them in a while. All throughout college they were really popular. I only have Ten, Go, and the album after that. My brother was a big fan and had bootlegs before on tape.
Guitarist is great!! Checkout their website if you haven't already. They post like mad their.

Pearl Jam is my first true musical love.
You know how you have crushes in elementary school and then some time in high school you have your first love? As time goes by the love seems trite and trivial, but it's still your first love. That's Pearl Jam to me. That's the first band I was ever gung-ho, all out for. That's the first band I ever saw more than once on the same tour. That's the first band for whom I ever started collectioning singles, bootlegs, etc.
To this date it's the only band for whom I've done this. And there probably won't be another. I've never thought as much about a girl as I did that first love, but that doesn't mean it was healthy :-)
I still listen to PJ a ton, though.

I'm a huge Pearl Jam fan. One summer I toko vacation from work and toured with them for nine straight shows. I love the band and think they are incredibly underrated int he grand scheme of things.
I can understand somebody saying they prefer Creed, but as a Pearl Jam fan it kind of hurts me. I listen to Creed and hear dumb downed Pearl Jam: Pearl Jam's music emulated in tone and style without the sustance, the goal being money. I see and band that doesn't seem to be professional musicians but professional entertainers. There's nothing wrong with that, nor is there anything wrong with making "dumbed down" music.
It just hurts my feelings, I guess. I realize I may have been rude here but I'm sorry. Yeah, I should delete the above, but I won't and just beg your forgiveness for being a jerk.

Everyone has a right to listen to what they like and when I listen to Creed, and hear hardcore music, with some good lyrics, inspite of Scott Stapp sounding like Eddie Vedder. I really don't care considering I'm not a PJ fan. I think pretty much the same thing about PJ that most people think about Creed, I think there dull, but that's justmy opinion.

Vitalogy is my favorite cd by Pearl Jam, and I'm putting my foot down on that! I love the sound on Vitalogy. And some of the songs are so weird, they just add to the creepy atmosphere of the cd.
Last Exit is awesome.

It's too bad you're a little young to remember the hay-day of Pearl Jam, Jacob. Everybody seems to define them in terms of these semi-copy cat bands that have followed. *sigh*
Jacob
14-12-2003, 05:46 AM
and....mycoldplayerisbroke, I agree, Pearl Jam rule grunge.
They are the only band from the grunge era that is still together, and they are the grunge band that had the right amount of substance in their musc.

I heard the live DVD is pretty awesome from a lot of people. Guess I should get it!
And I don't know why, but Ten is not my favorite by them, Vitalogy is more original and experimental sounding. I mean, you can't tell me Bugs is not the creepiest song you've ever heard.

14-12-2003, 05:56 AM

Why are you even bothering to post that in a Pearl Jam thread? I am over it, and now I'm making light of it. See how over it I am? Don't worry about posting flippancies like that unless you wish to get responses like these, because telling somebody to "get over it," ESPECIALLY when you're somebody proporting the virtues of Creed in a Pearl Jam thread seems like a ill-advised use of your time.

This band is so awesome, they get better and better with each cd, their last one is sort of off but, it's still good. These guys have a new sound with each album, I think they'll be on tour next year for sure, and I'm going to see them if it means waiting outside ticketmaster for hours before it opens. Uh, no I kid. I've seen them live and it was awesome, certainly. Riot Act was great for like the first week and now its so terribly average, they are in a great danger of becoming so average, instead of beautifully amazing.
They are wonderful musicians, they record their albums with very little production work and with one take. So obviously this makes for a great live performance.

Yea I agree, Riot Act wasn't that good, one of my favorites is on that cd though, Love Boat Captain. All their cds sound so different and really stand out in different ways. I think the best album they put out is Binaural, a lot of people would say no to this, but I honestly think this is they're best, it certainly has the best production on it. And Light Years is one of my faves. My favorite Pearl Jam song is from No Code though, Off He Goes.

i wonder why there's no pearl jam thread in this forum ... don't you like them?!
i gotta admit that i only have the famous 'Ten' record and i think it is amazing!
i only new 'Jeremy' but then i bought the album and it is filled with awesome songs like 'Black', 'Alive', 'Garden', 'Why Go', 'Porch', ...
the live version of 'Alive' is even better!
i like eddie vedder's voice. it's so raspy and just good! ;)
so if you want a good piece of music just go out and buy [or download] 'Ten' by Pearl Jam! You won't regret it!

one: I never said I was a "fan" whatsoever. I wouldn't even put then in my top 20 bands.
two: never once was the success of the album on the charts mentioned nor even considered by me. You're the one who brought that up, my friend.
three: whether or not a particular band has bad albums is merely an opnion. And it just so happens that my opinion, after purchasing this record and listening to it extensively, is that is is weak.

Pearl Jam, Franz Ferdinand and Muse are announced as the headline acts for the Reading and Leeds Festivals as tickets go on sale for the twin events.
The Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys, The Futureheads and The Streets will also play on the main stages.
The bands will perform at both Richfield Avenue, Reading, and Bramham Park, near Wetherby, on the weekend of 25-27 August.
Other acts lined up include Belle and Sebastian, Feeder and Placebo.
More than 100,000 people are expected to flood to the festivals, paying up to £135 for a weekend pass.
Although the festivals always sell out well in advance, they have taken on greater significance this summer because there is no Glastonbury Festival this year.
Other bands to play at Reading and Leeds include My Chemical Romance, The Rakes, Dirty Pretty Things and The Subways.
US rock band Pearl Jam, fronted by Eddie Vedder, were playing at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark in 2000 when a crowd surge resulted in eight fans being trampled to death.
The band immediately cancelled the remaining dates of their European tour because they were so devastated by the tragedy, and criticised organisation at the festival, saying the deaths could have been avoided.

Jacob
15-09-2006, 03:03 PM
Oh man, thank God the Pearl Jam threads are back on top!
Pearl Jam have been my favorite band for a long long time. I've seen them twice now. The tour opener on May 9th was the best I've been to out of the two. Although the other time was insane back in September, because Eddie brought out Bono to do vocals with him on Rockin' In The Free World.
And when I saw U2 two days earlier, Bono brought out Eddie Vedder to do vocals with him for Old Man River. I'd say besides meeting Chris Cornell, that's gotta be my biggest rock'n'roll moment.
My favorite album by them is Binaural, Yield is the least favorite.
Jacob
15-09-2006, 03:05 PM
I think the audience's roar drowned out the band here.

Jacob
15-09-2006, 03:20 PM
haha thanks!
The best part was when Eddie was just on his guitar after playing Love Boat Captain, and then he starts playing A Sort Of Homecoming and singing. And that's my favorite U2 song, so my mind was blown.
Seeing them in November eh? That concert is gonna be awesome, trust me. Make sure to pick up a tour shirt too, with the Avacado on it. hahha.
Pearl Jam song of the day?....... Brain of J!

Jacob
18-09-2006, 05:27 AM
Ahh well, after listening to all their albums, I'd say that while Ten is their best, Binaural would be my favorite, everyone usually hates that one, but I dunno, I really think it's very under-appreciated. It's by far their most focused and fascinating cd. And like the artwork perfectly describes the music, and how spacey it is. Light Years and Parting Ways are two of Pearl Jam's best songs.
Jacob
18-09-2006, 01:39 PM

The new Pearl Jam cd is awesome. Some fans think Pearl Jam are selling out and going commercial I guess. The way I see it is that if the band wants to rock out, then they should by all means do it. Life Wasted is like my theme song. haha.
In fact, I'd say the new one, Binaural and Vitalogy are my three favorites of theirs.

Don't really know much of their stuff, besides Black Hole Sun of course...Chris Cornell has a killer voice though! he has cool eyes as well lol
Jacob
24-09-2006, 07:20 PM
Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder are good buddies. Members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam got together before they became famous and made a cd under the name Temple Of The Dog, it's really good stuff. And on this one song Hunger Strike, Eddie and Chris both do vocals. It's awesome.
Soundgarden are really hard to get into, but they're like a darker somewhat twisted Pearl Jam.

Yea, Lost Dogs is where I got started. I heard Hard To Imagine and I was like... "hmmmm, I wonder where to go to next with these guys?" It's so funny thinkin back on me in high school though. Because I used to be a big Nirvana fan, I'd be like "Pearl Jam? Who the hell are they? They probably suck!" Now here I am in uni, and it's the other way around.
vertigo caz
15-10-2006, 04:48 AM
Yeah coz I've always been a fan of Pearl Jam, I was never able to really get into Nirvana...not to say I dont like their music, just that I don't know much of it, and from what I've heard it's not as good as what Pearl Jam produces.....I know A LOT of people disagree with that!! So what you studying at uni?

But yea, the way I see it, things can only get better from here. I mean I think at this age, the quarter-life crisis time, you go through a massive amount of anxiety now that like u realize ur an adult, and I dunno, eventually you get into the swing of things and you figure out where you wanna go. That's just what I think. I might be generalizing, if so, I apologize in advance haha.

No I totally get what you're saying....I'm just hoping I get past my quater-life crisis sooner rather than later...but I'm probably not stressing about it as much as I should be...but I have the attitude, I'm only 19..I have plenty of time to figure out what I want to with the rest of my life...and if I'm in the wrong course, its not a big deal..I can always come back to uni (not really keen on doing that), but if its for soemthing i really wanna do..I'll just do it. Anyway film studies sounds interesting......maybe later on down the track you could go into doing something like...hmmm directing future pearl jam video clips! If that ever happens you gotta hook me up, I wanna meet the guys!
