Ugh! People have this weird habit of claiming things make people violent, like movies, videogames, music, or even Craigslist.

We should ban everything that is bad, put everyone in white padded room and pump them full of happy pills and nothing but the healthiest foods, and put them in a coma so they don't have bad thoughts!

Now instead of having video games to take their anger out on, they're going to take their anger out on real people! Awesome!!

And how are they going to determine what is violent and what isn't violent?

And how will they stop people in Germany and Venezeula from ordering games from other countries online?

And when will people learn banning stuff makes people want to try it out

Laws don't work...in general.

and how exactly are they going to stop 'violent' video games being downloaded? Not to mention the estimated 439 million CDs were copied illegally in Germany alone last year?

It's not the state's place to decide which games are appropriate and which aren't.

well, i agree on the bit, that this won't change anything.
but i still think it's good, if the government marks shit as shit officially. it's easier for me to explain to my kid, that those fuckers in berlin are actually existing to take care about things, when they actually do take care sometimes. even if, as we all know, it doesn't change so much in this case.

it's rather naive of you to assume, that the guys of the legislature think that this ban would lead to an amok- free- zone.

i'm so very much anti bloody war- and ego- shooter- games personally...

I think it's helpful to explain how, exactly, you ban violent videogames.

If someone is caught selling a violent videogame, you must first warn them not to. If they do it anyway, you then fine them. If they refuse to pay the fine, you've got to arrest them. If they refuse to be arrested, you've got to taser them or beat them with a club. And if they resist or defend themselves, you shoot them.

i need at least a week to come up with something sensible. finding a solution, where there is none...:disappointed:

Well there are two theories on this sort of media:

One is that violence in videogames, movies, music, books, etc influences people to behave in violent ways.

The other is that violence in these media is cathartic, meaning that if you are already a violent person, and you play a violent videogame, it becomes a release for you. Sort of like therapy, so that you will shoot people in the videogame instead of people in the real world.

Both of these theories are wrong, however. The human mind is capable of understanding the difference between fiction and reality, with proper parenting. If you are raising a young child, teach them the difference from an early age. Tell them violence is only to be used as a last-resort, in self defense... but never as a way to get what you want from other people, or as a way to get revenge.

Today many adults think violence is the FIRST option, instead of the last resort. Any time someone is doing something they don't approve of, they seek to ban it using the government... and this is an example of using hired guns to do your dirty work.
