I think it's very close to the tube station (on the Piccadilly line )
It looks like..." If wet, in the British Museum! " :)

Plannned engineering works on Sunday, not involving the Russell Square area.

The Jubilee line around Wembley for those with hotels in that area is suspended but there are other lines to come in on. You just might have to change lines a bit more or take the scenic route on the replacement bus, but it's all good!! You get Jaffa Cakes and Cornish chocolate chip cookies at the end!! :)

Hey everyone :)
Some people have been discussing a coldplaying.com meet up on Sept. 20th, 2009 (Sunday) somewhere in one of London's various parks in one of the Wembley threads already.
We thought it was fun to meet up after the concerts and maybe have more time to get to know each other and talk about the previous concerts, as most of us probably queue up on different sides of the stadium due to general admission/seating tickets.
We know that not everyone will be able to participate due to early departure times on that day aso. but we reckon that most (overseas) visitors will probably stay in London on Sunday as well. :)
Nothing is settled yet, we haven't decided on a park, nor a time, nor what to bring along (of course Jaffa Cakes :D ).
That's why I opened up this thread to point out to everyone that there's a meeting planned and not to spam the actual Wembley threads with it.
So who of you would be interested in coming along. Which park should we choose (Regents Park, Hyde Park?!??), what time would you suggest.
Food for thought and let's start to discuss :)
I will bring Jaffa Cakes from here and we have Rasberry & Cassis ones which are extremely yummy :D

I would certainly try to make it if something was organised.;)

Good idea, although I prefer food for eating, personally!!:P

I guess best would be not to get too organised but make it an 'open' meet up for everyone interested in coming along.
Just fixing a time and a place and whoever comes round is welcome :)

Haha ... nah ... they wouldn't last until Sunday as I don't have a fridge in my hotel room ;)
But if you have a certain request for german food which hasn't to be stored in a cool place I will bring something along for you :p

Yeah why not! I'll bring, well, ummm...... I have no idea.
I'd say Regent's Park, as its the same distance basically from the stadium as Hyde and people are more likely to know where to find us 'cos its smaller.

LCCC does because the neighbours don't like having music concerts in a cricket ground. has to have a curfew to get the live music licence from the council.
I can kinda see their point. They're currently going through 5 nights of Take That, plus they had a very long soundcheck on the first day too.

I am in London til 23rd so I should be able to make it. I will be moving back into a hotel that day and would prefer a time frame sometime after 1pm if possible. I think Mel and Lori are both leaving kinda early that day. :\
As for the park, we not only need to choose one, but also a particular place to meet. Some of the parks a quite huge you know. :P We need to choose one that will easy for everyone to find and access.
Green Park is good because the buses and the Underground both stop on the same side of the park and it's pretty easy to find. If we all meet at the entrance across from the Green Park underground stop, then we could start walking toward the Palace and find a place in the park to set up camp. Green is not all that huge so even if some people got there late, they could probably still find us.
Hyde Park, I would avoid the Speaker's Corner end on a Sunday, unless we all want to argue with people. :P I would suggest Lancaster Gate entrance. There is a huge set of fountains just inside at that entry and we could meet there. I know tube service is available there, I'll have to check on what buses stop there.
Regent's Park I would suggest using the Baker Street tube station. Buses also stop there. It's block or so walk to the park, but pretty easy to find. From the tube station walk toward Madame Tussauds until you get to York Gate street and turn left. The park is straight ahead and once inside, to the left is a lovely pond. We could meet there.
As for as what to bring. I say BYOF: Bring Your Own Food.
For Regents Park, there are several shops at Baker Street station that sell sandwiches and stuff. Hyde Park, not much at the Lancaster Gate entry, so bring something with you. Green Park, there are some places to get stuff on the way in.
All 3 meeting areas I suggested also have public restrooms close to that part of the park.

Thanks for all the useful information, Angie :)
I guess the majority should decide where to meet up. I have been to Hyde Park before but not to the other two so therefore I don't really know the location and how crowded it will be on a Sunday (depends on the weather as well).
Anything will be fine with me :)

If I have to vote on a park I would choose Regent's as it is mine and Jonny's favorite park. :D
Also a good choice because people could pick up their eats at one of the shops at Barker Street station.
If for some reason the weather is shit that day, I say a meet up at one of the bigger train stations. Victoria, Waterloo, or Liverpool Street all have plenty of room and places to eat. Victoria has lots of seating upstairs.

My other suggestion would be Russell Square.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w171/angie7581/52russellsquare.jpg
Is located near University Collage London, so has a Coldplay related theme.
It's lovely. :nice:
Small, so locating each other easy.
Easily accessible by both tube and buses.
Easy to find.
Has a cafe in the park, plus many places near by to purchase food/drink.
If weather goes south, we can walk to British Museum just around the corner.

Russell Square might be a good idea. It is much smaller than Regent's Park and easy to access by bus and tube. If we need something to eat and drink more or in case of rain, there are plenty of pubs and restaurants near there. Brunswick Centre near the tube station has a lot of shops including Waitrose? or M&S? if we need more. So what do you say?

It all depends what's going on back at uni that day in terms of orientation...because it's a Sunday, I tend to say "oh, there won't be much going on, I can totally stay in London during the day," but because it's the day before the first day of classes, I figure there'll be something going on I have to be there for (and I might already get my head chopped off for playing hooky on Saturday for the show, so I might have to save face by attending whatever mundane things are on for Sunday )
[/long explanation]
If help is needed with organization etc, however, I could definitely lend a hand...I'll just then be SUPER sad if I can't make it :P.
Hyde Park is good for a party ;)

I got my timetable for uni and it looks like I don't have classes on Mondays, so if there's nothing that pressing going on back at uni on Sunday, I'm going to try my damndest to get to this! Like I say, though, I might have to miss it just to save face with my program coordinator .
I think what someone said earlier about proximity to the Wembley area is a good point, but using the Tube etc, it's really not hard to get to Russell Square that Angie suggested...
I'm going to be in London for a month before this gig, so I'll try to scope out some other places if we feel we need more options .

Haha, well not NO more worrying, no, but I'm more confident than I was before. My registration appointment (the most important thing of orientation) is scheduled for that Friday, so my Saturday *appears* like it'll be less vital for now, but I don't know exactly what IS scheduled for Saturday. All I know is that the most important thing will be out of the way (because I basically COULDN'T miss that). As long as there's nothing else absolutely vital that Saturday, I'm playing hooky, so I'm likw 90% sure I'm going, I guess. I just hope I'm not brutally punished for it later :P.

11-08-2009, 06:55 PM
don't think you need to worry too much about Saturday. i think the important orientation stuff generally only really happen between Mon-Fri & wk/ends would be more to socials, if any.
i just got my timetable for freshers' week (mine only starts on 28th Sep) & it looks like i've only got a lot of running around for registrations stuff & info sessions on the wk/days.

Unfortunately, not at my uni. Classes start that Monday, so all orientation has to be done before then, i.e., that weekend. I'm not saying every second of that weekend will necessarily be scheduled, but I wonder what I'll be missing and how vital it is, because something will definitely be going on.
Anyway, my mindset is I'M 90% SURE I'M PLAYING HOOKY, so things look good for the concert, though probably not the pre- and post- meet-ups.

Yep, that'll be on the tour I'll lead of "Old Coldplay Haunts circa 1996" as an added bonus. £1 extra for that special sight.
Seriously, though, this area is exactly where the boys used to live: Ramsay Hall where they all met is a very short walk away, as well as all their old classroom buildings etc (yes, I've scoped them all out and could show people if they were as nerdy as me). I'm totally getting a kick out of shopping at the same bookstores and Tescos and all that as the guys must have :wacky:. I think Russell Square would be perfect because of both the significance and the smaller size, much better than Regent's Park etc. As for the Tube, eh, it's like always busy :P.

Do we still not have a place and time? I'm thinking I need to be on a train as of 1-2 PM at the latest, but my hotel is quite literally 2 minutes from Russell Square, so if we do it there around noonish I can totally pop by for at least a bit.
If we're still unsure of the final details, I put my vote in for 11ish/noon at Russell Square :D. Euston Square Tube stop is a short walk to Russell Square, which is on the Metropolitan Line, which is the line taken from Wembley Park Tube stop, so all of you staying near Wembley could easily come in one 30 minute Tube ride.

but the really good news is the bit of the Bakerloo line that Stonebridge Park (Wembley Traveldoge tube stop) is on is closed for engineering works next sunday between the end of the line & Queens Park.
Will have to use Hanger Lane on Central line instead, but engineering works around tottenham court road area.
Just to make it even more fun, lots of roads will be shut for this:

[/a little off topic]Hi!
Buy an Oyster Card when you arrive in London and put some money on it.
No matter how much you use the public transport on one day, you never pay more than a day ticket (daily price-cap).When you leave London you can go to a ticket office and get back the deposit for the card and the money that's still on it.
It's a credit-card-sized card and with that you touch the sensors at each entrance and exit of the tube, you can use it for some rail services and buses of course too.

PS: We have 3 spare tickets to the concert on the 19th, so, if you are interested...

It will be very hard to sell them at the gig (except to touts, for little money). I would get on Scarlet Mist.com asap!!

I won't be attending as I decided I would need to chill out and recharge today (travelling in and out of London can be pretty tiring in itself).
I met most of the people I had hoped to. I'm sure I'll catch up with the others one day.
Hope everyone has a good time, anyway.;)
