yea, but it was still a nice thing to dream about...^^
I believe they might go for a darker theme this time, perhaps parachute-esque?

Really glad to see that Famous Old Painters is still alive and well! It's amusing that so many people are so excited for this particular song considering that we barely know anything of it excluding the its title.

Great Expectations and Harmony both appeared written on the piano in the 60 Minutes special from earlier this year, so those songs have been around for a while too, it seems.

1000-1 (ballast of St...)
Gardeners on the Tra.....
Famous old painters
Cartoon Head
Spanish Rain
Christmas Lights

Weddings bells
Love in a lethal dose
Drunks + Guns
Cartoon Heart

Drunks + Guns? Another collaboration with Jay-Z?
And notice how Chris always draws a little picture beside the names, maybe he can't read his own handwriting ...
And there's a cartoon head and a cartoon heart.

I think the first one was "Gardeners on the Frontline".

There was "Arabesque" and "Car kids (?)" too. And "Space Symphony"

My torrent download worked out finally.
I've watched it. It was a really emotional show, especially because it was aired right after the tour has finished
(plus my wristband that Chris wears can be seen all throughout the show :D).
It's lovely.

Oh and I love the songs that they played in the studio without Chris. Wonder if they'll produce it for the next LP5.

Ah I forgot that you get to see it when it was aired!
I'm the one who's a bit behind :P
Anyway I can see myself putting it on repeat just because it really summed up what the band is all about.
Plus all the boys get equal parts in the video which is wonderful :nice:

Anyone notice the song titles in the background yet?

Love In Lethal dose and Cartoon Hearts were written along with Famous old painters and Chrismas lights and some other songs in the scene where chris plays wedding bells. But the one in the top is undiscovered, great find!

Does anyone else have a clue?
Maybe I'll ask the Oracle.
Because I don't think he said that because it was dangerous...
Or is that the real reason?

It was incredibly dangerous, he was obviously pulled to the ground and Guy said later that Chris threw up after this and had to lay down for quite a while, he was probably dehydrated. So that's why it was a tremendous error. :)

I'm not sure if this is the reason but right after the show he threw up in a bucket. It was quite horrible.
Plus he had one more Sydney show that night so what he did was very risky.

This show is so amazing I wanna hug the presenter (I know it would be easier to just email him).So many cool things. It's just nice to see them in a normal, non-grandiose environment. You just feel like you know a little bit more how the band works when they are behind closed doors. It's really nice.
I love that they repainted the entire studio in white.Clean slate.Viva era over.I think it's nice that even the physical environment and feeling has to change completely in order for something new to happen.
Will has some crazy beats going on. I love it
Also, Guy makes me laugh. In some part of the documentary he doesn't smile at ALL (interview with Will in the studio/short hair) and then in the backstage in Japan or sitting at the table in the studio he smiles a lot.He is so weird :)
Chris makes CRAZY drawings
I love how Will and Jonny just visit Jonny's bedroom although someone actually lives there and has stuff ALL over (including a bottle of ketchup). Can you imagine having the two of them in your bedroom )nothing sleazy intended...or maybe)
Why is Will ALWAYS reading magazines?? (Jonny as well) ALWAYS!

I finally got to watch this last night, and it's fuckin' brilliant!!! :wacky:
It's very entertaining and funny at times, but also the mix between the band interviews with the live show clips is beautiful :wacky: Plus, I LOVE that is not just Chris, actually there's a big chunk of it in which he's not around. Not that I don't like him, but it's refreshing to see a show in which they actually bother on interviewing the whole band. The ending, with those clips of the four of them talking about the band, Chris' scene in the park and then Fix You is almost... heartbreaking

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but at the end of Wedding Bells he says that he still hasn't come up with a good verse for it a week later, and that's a bad sign. That might mean the song never comes out, but I guess...at least we've heard it...

^Nice pics, by the way :D (though, the pictures of Guy seem to out-number the rest..:laugh3:)

So, the final series of The South Bank Show is under way, which gives us the opportunity to consider whether its presenter, Melvyn Bragg, is right when he says (I paraphrase) that its disappearance from the schedules is one of the Greatest Crimes Ever Committed Against Arts Programming. The most recent film (20 September, 10.15pm), the second in a series that will also include programmes about Nick Hornby and the Bury band Elbow, starred Coldplay, and, for my money, it only showed up TSBS's weaknesses.

The show's obsession with treating high and low culture equally seriously is fine in principle: I dislike a certain kind of intellectual snobbery as much as the next wannabe-cool middle-class person. But, in practice, Coldplay was never going to make for a rich hour's television. You've only to listen to Chris Martin's lyrics to know that the band ain't got anything to say.

What's more, in the absence of both Coldplay-fixated academics and halfway decent music journalists - no halfway decent music writer is going to admit to loving them - Bragg's team was unable to dish up any talking heads even to unpick the mechanics of their harmonies, much less find someone to (whisper it softly) criticise them. Instead, we got Bono.

Tell me this: is there any man alive more annoying than Bono? I agree, there isn't. Now tell me this: has he ever said anything that you thought even remotely original, interesting or insightful? Right again! No, he hasn't. As a consequence of this inadequacy, the programme consisted more or less entirely of live footage of, and interviews with, Coldplay. Result? The film that I watched looked very much like a DVD mailout to loyal members of the Coldplay fan club. The narrative went something like this: "They're super. They're polite. They went to university. Now here's another clip of Chris Martin warbling 'Yellow'." When Martin sang "I Want You Back" with Gary Barlow as his wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, bobbed around in the background, I had only two thoughts in my head. The first was: "I love Take That." The second was: "Oh my God, Gwyneth Paltrow is halfway through a glass of red wine." I'm guessing this is not the response that Bragg was after.

The thing I've never understood about TSBS is why the makers include several dozen clips per programme of Bragg smiling and laughing and generally sucking up to his interviewees. Not that I blame him for smiling and laughing and sucking up. I make the greater part of my living from interviewing famous people, and believe me, when I play back my tapes afterwards, the sound of my insincerity is enough to make you sick. But the point is that I save readers from this nauseating twaddle by editing it. Bragg edits all the South Bank Show films, and has boasted of his ruthlessness in this regard. So, why does he leave this stuff in? I've no idea. It's unfathomable to me. Hard to believe that this grinning ninny is the same man who presents In Our Time on Radio 4, a programme so piercingly clever that I would pay my licence fee for it alone. Oh, well. Life is mysterious. Some people think Coldplay are a great band.

Does all this mean that I won't mourn TSBS when it disappears to the great video library in the sky? Weirdly, it doesn't. It's always bad when dedicated programming goes, and with ITV, who knows what we'll get instead? (It dumped World in Action and look what happened: Martin Clunes on dogs is what passes for documentary on ITV now.) Yes, we could have done without its programmes on the Darkness and the 'ecky-thump Yorkshire poet Ian McMillan. But it has also given us, over the years, films about Paul Bowles, the Smiths and Francis Bacon.

Perhaps the truth, if I'm really honest, is that whenever I've been a fan of its subject, high or low, it has worked like magic: I've gazed on my idols, sucked up every ill-considered word, and generally enjoyed the thrill of ersatz intimacy. The rest of the time, it has often made me blush. But then, I could always just have switched it off and headed for bed. Better that, I think, than for it to be switched off permanently.

At the end of the day, he admitted that his judgement of the show is biased. He will only like the show if it features things of his interest.
That makes the whole article irrelevant.

Exactly. What a pointless piece of journalism. And it's made it into The New Statesman?! "I don't really like Coldplay. If I did I would have enjoyed it but I don't so I didn't". Sounds like Colin Farrell in In Bruges...

Wedding Bells, of course, just gorgeous. This has made me SO FREAKIN' EXCITED for the new album! They've really got so much material! I expected much less, you know.

As soon as Gwyneth Paltrow came onto the screen... grr. I resisted the urge to scream in jealousy. But, other than that... squee. :nice:

"Tell me this: is there any man alive more annoying than Bono? I agree, there isn't."
So basically this is a let's bash everyone article then. Well I got it wrong- I can think of plenty of far more annoying people. Therefore you can't agree.

"I make the greater part of my living from interviewing famous people, [good for you  explains the cynicism] and believe me, when I play back my tapes afterwards, the sound of my insincerity is enough to make you sick. [Doesn't even take sound, dude.] But the point is that I save readers from this nauseating twaddle by editing it."

I only just watched this...I'm probably the last one on the whole board to see it:blush: and I'm sure everything witty, interesting, insightful has been said already(haven't dipped my toes in here, yet)but just wanted to add my two cents...

It was so great!!!:D They are all so lovely!:nice: It makes me feel like I'm not insane for being so passionate about loving their music. And now I'm so so excited about a new album in the (hopefully)near future.

I'd only been feeling sadness about this tour and London trip being over, but now I feel excited and hopeful about what's gonna come next. It's such a "Coldplay" thing--when I'm feeling shitty and down, I listen to CP and I end up feeling comforted and uplifted. Just watching them talk about their music and beginnings and that inside look into their music-making just turned all my sad feelings into excitement.

Critics will of course criticize :P but for us fans that was a lovely look into the band that we don't normally get. It was a Coldplay lovefest, but that's exactly what we love, right?:D

I feel the same way! I watched it last night on Youtube, and it had this strange, comforting thing for me. I felt like I had a little glimpse into their life that I can now see whenever I want, and I don't have to feel so bad that the tour is over and my concert experience in July is a memory.

Not that it matters but that article was written by a woman,Rachel Cooke.I cant stand her'

I love one of the comments from the article...

Bravo for your very "professional" article, Rachel.....whatever happened to impartiality?? All that's come out of this is you wanting to inform everyone that you don't like Coldplay and I, for one, don't give a toss about your musical leanings. That was the beauty of the South Bank Show, it had subjects from all aspects of the art world and if some of them didn't appeal to you, you just didn't watch it that week. Maybe if you were one of the thousand of people who saw them during the tour, you might have warmed to them more. Not everyone who went to see them would have been major fans but you couldn't deny the fact that the band put on a great show and that the sometimes tedious music was brought to life in a big way on the live stage. Of course, it was great to see Gwyneth with half a glass of wine gone too, of course! I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing and I'm sad to see it go

Quote article: "... unable to dish up any talking heads even to unpick the mechanics of their harmonies, much less find someone to (whisper it softly) criticise them. Instead, we got Bono."

My Comment: A documentary is to include interviews with band members and something about the band's past history - and so it did. A documentary does not necessarily have to involve criticism, IMO.

"Tell me this: is there any man alive more annoying than Bono? ... Now tell me this: has he ever said anything that you thought even remotely original, interesting or insightful? Right again! No, he hasn't."

It appears that this journalist does not like Bono and finds him annoying. If Bono has never said or done anything remotely original, interesting or insightful, how come that leading politicians including prime ministers and presidents invite him to important meetings and how come that Bono has been nominated for Nobel's peace prize a couple of times? I hardly think that anyone would think of nominating the author of the article for any literature prize. And she writes about her colleague not editing his documentary - if she had edited her article, there would be nothing left!

"The thing I've never understood about TSBS is why the makers include several dozen clips per programme of Bragg smiling and laughing and generally sucking up to his interviewees. Not that I blame him for smiling and laughing and sucking up. I make the greater part of my living from interviewing famous people, and believe me, when I play back my tapes afterwards, the sound of my insincerity is enough to make you sick." MY COMMENT: RIGHT - WE BELIEVE YOU!

"But the point is that I save readers from this nauseating twaddle by editing it." MY COMMENT: But you did not save readers from your article which IMO is nonsense!!

"Some people think Coldplay are a great band." MY COMMENT: WE ARE MANY WHO THINK THAT COLDPLAY ARE A GREAT BAND. And U2 as well.

By the way - don't forget to vote for COLDPLAY for MTV EUROPE AWARDS in the category of "Best World Stage Performance" - you can do it again and again, for example one time per day. It is also possible to vote for U2 in the categories of "Best Live Act" and "Best Rock":
