If you are thinking about New Orleans show be advised:
The New Orleans Arena is located in New Orleans, LA. Sales to this event will be restricted to residents of Louisiana, Mississippi, S. Alabama, and the panhandle of Florida. Residency will be based on credit card billing address. Orders by residents outside of this area will be canceled without notice and refunds given.
Why can't they do this for all the shows.

AGREED !!!!
Last time they were in N.O.,you could tell the home folks were up front, those that lived farther away were in the nose bleed areas. :laugh3:
BUT, this now gives me and my youngest daughter 2 chances to see them this year. We already have tix to July Woodlands concert. :):):)
Can they make it 3 times for us???????

But since Florida relies on tourism, it's a good thing that people from other states or countries come to FL for a concert.

:)Got my 4 tix , all on Floor A rows 7 and 8. Are these "up close" or what? (New Orleans Arena)
Anyone with an opinion on how good these seats are?
There were only floor seats available on the Ticketrush that I saw. Anyone else ?

(Sorry for the delayed response, was away from my pc.):\
You are correct, they took the presale off, for what reason I do not know.
This morning it said presale was from 10am to 10 pm CST. I was there for the opening and got my tix, then left the site.
Just checked it, logged in, and all it gives is "more info" , no way to buy on presale.
Your next opportunity is on 3-21-09 when they go on sale to the general public.
If you dont have a ticketmaster account, do it now as you may get first crack at it, maybe not? Its worth trying.

They take down the presales once all the presale tickets are sold or when the time is up which ever comes first.

Did anyone snag a seat in the stands, or were all the presale tix on the floor sections? :)
Must have a limited number for presale as it went off line by 5 pm:(

Just curious- was the STRINGS password correct?
Checking TicketMaster moments ago, there are still tickets to be had, after yesterday's Radio presale and General Public sales that started this a.m.
Wonder if it'll be sold out or not?

If anybody has an extra pair of good seats for a huge Coldplay fan I'd be happy to grab them - even a bit over face.
The fact that I'd now have to pay $200 to get decent seats pisses me off - there was no buzz locally about this concert so I just had no idea about it.
I'm a huge Coldplay fan - you can quiz me if you want. I've seen them twice since VLV came out and I had incredible seats both times.

Yes, STRINGS would have worked. They had two places to enter a password: the ticketrush password and the presale password. I believe that if you put STRINGS in the ticketrush blank then it would have worked.

Only LA, AL, and northwest FL residents could buy tickets.

Try TicketMaster if you have a credit card with a billing address in those locals mentioned. An alternate is to get someone you know in those areas to purchase for you.
I checked TM late Saturday night & there were tixs to be had, dont know if its sold out by now or not.

Hey just bumping with some info in case anyone is interested...
Ticketmaster has pretty much sold out the lower bowl but now if you search "100 level off floor" you will get seats in section 116 and 121 which are considered to be "behind the stage" but in reality are among the best seats in the house.
I sat in 121 for the Police concert and aside from the people in the first 10 rows on the floor, I had a better view than anyone in the arena. You're basically on the side of the stage and very close to the band members.
Sections 121 and 116 both start on row 6, so if you're pulling seats in Row 14 you're really on the 8th row.
Just thought I'd pass that along - these are great seats that are coming up - way better than anything that's been available lately. I have New Orleans Hornets season tickets in both of these sections because they're the most price-efficient.

I just went on ticketmaster and bought 2 VIP A floor tickets in New Orleans. Does anyone know what this means? I already had 2 tickets on the floor previously... but I have no idea what this VIP means.
Also, to the guy with the 7th and 8th row. Those should be very decent... assuming this VIP thing isn't in front...

Yeah, it's so confusing.
I keep checking this concert since I am planning on going to NOLA in the summer, hopefully around Coldplay's concert.
BUT I cannot buy tix on Ticketmaster because of the residence restriction.
Have you sold those 2 floor tickets yet?

That ticket (VIP B, Row 9) keeps showing up on TicketMaster.
It must be a sign for me to go ahead and buy it.

I'm not going to this show, but I would figure VIP Floor means it's the first rows of the section, meaning they are better than regular floor seats. If they are row 9 and 10, then I would think they are TRUE row 9 and 10, which are some of the best. They were probably reserved for friends/family or something and got released along with all the other good seats at other shows...

Well, that suxs.
bought 4 tix as soon as TM released tix for sale, within 2 minutes of TM opening to presale, I was checking out and payed for them. You would think the VIP tixs would be offered at the presale.
I am in Floor A row 7 and 8, so I will assume that means at the back of section Floor A. Pobly around row 17 and 18 or even further back.
I am NOT happy with this outcome.

I called the N.O. Arena Box office and asked if there was a difference between VIP and regular and she couldn't answer the question.
She said she had a seating chart for the show (which I can't find anywhere on line) and there is not a VIP section on it. So maybe my VIP 10 row is actual 10th row...
Who knows.....

I wouldn't get mad, I was just guessing, so it could be something completely different... I'm not sure why they suddenly added those though... Maybe it just means you get some extras and VIP Row 9 is the same as Floor Row 9, but you get some drink coupons or something, lol... It could also be like a PIT, which means it would most probably be in front of general floor. I wouldn't fret though... Sounds like you have great tickets. Believe me, anything Row 20-ish or under on the floor is usually great. It is weird though... I'll keep checking here since I kind of want to know myself! I haven't seen this situation at any other show...

Ticketmaster has good club tickets left... I just checked. No floor though.. but I saw 8th row aisle seats on SEC 113... which isn't bad.

I do have a proposition though, if anyone is interested. I have to tickets in FLOOR A, ROW 10, and it has the VIP on the ticket. I'm looking to swap for comparable tickets on FLOOR B. If you have better, I'd be willing to compensate you a little bit :wink3:

Is Floor B better than A, or a personal choice for the move?

I do not know the difference between VIP and non VIP. This is news to me. The move is a bit of a personal choice for me. I have seen this show 4 times, and 3 times with the setting as I believe it will be in NOLA.
Those 3 times I've sat on Floor A, and they roam the stage so much, it'd be cool to be on the other side.
I'm also tempted to just flat out buy closer seats to the stage. These are the best tickets I've ever gotten from Ticketmaster directly, so I didn't pay as much as what I have before. Anyway, let me know if you have any more comments or questions.

I have a quick question/request for those going to this show...would anyone be interested in getting me a bunch of the leftrightleftright albums that are being given away at the end of the show? a bunch of friends and myself really would like the album, and I've got some friends outside of the US that would really really like a copy. I know you can download it, but we all want hard copies. If anyone wants to help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated and I would pay for the shipping of the cds to me and if anyone can get me a box of cds I'll pay $50 plus the cost of shipping (like through paypal or ebay or something). my friends and I really really really want a cd, (as do a bunch of my friends' friends that live in other countries). I would be very very greatful. Let me know if you can help me out.
Thanks guys! Have a great time at the show!!!

I inquired about the VIP seats somewhat today. I called Ticketmaster support. They said that VIP seats are the first 10 rows of the floor. When I asked what was 10th row Main floor, she said it didn't exist.
The only way I think to find out for sure is to call the ticketmaster customer service with confirmed ticketmaster tickets in VIP and non VIP sections. If anyone has regular main floor tickets 10th row or better, and wants to inquire, let me know and i'll give you my info so you can ask what the difference is.
I'm very curious.

YIPEEE !!!
from your comments I gather the first 10 rows are VIP, row 11 starts the "standard" seating. That being the case (I know, its an assumption) then I have 4 seats in the VIP section, FLR A row 8 and FLR B row 7......:)
I would imagine the demarcation between the 2 sections is probably an aisle,a rope border or something similar.
One thing is for sure, we'll find out in just a few days.:P

"There's a possibility of being a more acoustic record," guitarist Jonny Buckland says of the next Coldplay album. "But that still remains a possibility rather than a certainty."
In the Fountains of Wayne minidrama "Someone to Love," lovelorn corporate attorney Seth Shapiro "puts Coldplay on, pours a glass of wine/curls up with a book about organized crime."
The implication is clear: Coldplay is the feel-good band of yuppies the world over.
In a decade, singer Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion have evolved from utter unknowns to cultural touchstones. They've sold tens of millions of albums, endorsed various charitable and political causes and, in the case of Martin, married Hollywood royalty without seeming insufferable.
One minor bump in the road: In December, guitar wizard Joe Satriani filed a lawsuit alleging that the title track of Coldplay's current "Viva la Vida" album plagiarized his 2004 instrumental "If I Could Fly." Nice chaps even when sued, the band responded, "If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him.... Joe Satriani is a great musician.... We wish him well with all future endeavors."
Buckland called from his home in England during a recent break in Coldplay's tour, which stops at the New Orleans Arena on Tuesday, June 9.
Coldplay has not performed in New Orleans since a 2003 show at the Saenger Theater. Should we take that personally?
I think we were supposed to come back just after Hurricane Katrina hit, but the gig was canceled. So I don't think you should take it personally.
You're over the career hump -- you've established who you are and what you do. I don't know if "relax" is the right word, but you've earned both credibility and success and can have some fun with it.
We've never enjoyed touring so much actually. We feel like we're playing better than we ever have and having more fun on stage than we ever have. The more we put into it, the more we get out of it. So it's the opposite of relaxing.
What element of the current show works best for you?
Where we go out and play in the audience. We try to get to the back of the crowd and pop up somewhere. It's kind of ramshackle, and we don't decide what songs we're going to do until we're there.
In arenas, you can feel a long way away and disconnected. We try to make people feel like they've actually been to see a real band rather than watching them on the TV.
Do you use some sort of satellite stage?
"Stage" might be overstating it a bit. More like a satellite shelf.
You never set out to be a guitar hero -- your guitar work is in the service of the song. Is that a fair assessment?
I think so. I've never gone in much for the solos. I was always more interested in atmospherics. Listening to bands like Mercury Rev or My Bloody Valentine or even The Verve, the way those guitarists played.
Do you solo at all during the show?
No, not really. I maybe have one, but it's not really shredding or anything like that. There's no Van Halen in me. (laughs)
Drummer Will Champion was Coldplay's original guitarist. It probably worked out best that you played guitar and not Will.
Yeah, well, he was a better drummer than me. (laughs) He probably is a better guitarist -- he's a very good guitarist. He's pretty much good at everything he does. He can even play the tin whistle. He's sort of a multitalented, Swiss Army drummer.
Don't you just hate that?
It is a bit annoying.
I'm guessing you don't wear the colored bits of tape on your fingers like Chris Martin because that would make it hard to play guitar.
That's Chris' thing. We can't all be doing the same thing.
You'd look like Devo.
Or Kraftwerk. Maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing, actually.
You put out the EP "Prospekt's March" in November with songs left over from the "Viva la Vida" sessions.
There were some songs that didn't really fit on the album. We didn't want to save them for another record. It felt silly to save them; they were already a couple of years old.
So it wasn't a qualitative decision to leave them off "Viva la Vida"?
We started writing a record, then we went to South America and scrapped the initial idea of what the record was about. We changed it to "Viva la Vida." So some of the songs just didn't fit with that at all, but we still really liked those songs. They told a different story.
Do any of those turn up in the set?
We play "Glass of Water" quite a bit and "Life in Technicolor II" as well. We love playing them live. We wanted to get them out there, so that we could be indulged.
Have you started writing for the next album?
We've written tons. We've got so much material, it's almost hard to know in which direction to go. It's quite a nice stage where you're bringing together all your ideas and picking which way to take them.
Any early indication of the mood?
There's a possibility of being a more acoustic record. But that still remains a possibility rather than a certainty.
You're not going to really work on it until after the tour?
We never really stop working on stuff. It's continuous. Touring only really takes up an hour and a half (a night). There's plenty of time to be writing music and playing. We won't finish anything this year, but we'll certainly get started.
Momentum feeds itself.
Being on tour, you're excited about playing live and you want to keep on going. You never want it to end, that adrenaline rush. It does feed into you writing more songs and getting excited about new ideas.
We love playing music. It's the best job in the world. We want to work all the time. It's hard to make us take a holiday.
It's definitely in the Top 5 jobs.
For us, it's No. 1. There's nothing else we'd rather be.
You don't want to trade being a guitarist for being a dentist?
No, thank you.
One last thing: Have you taken down all your Joe Satriani posters?
(laughs) Honestly, I never had a single one. I promise.

I believe starting with Nashville, the rest are indoors in the States until the July/August let, where they are outdoors again. But yeah, I'm guessing there were no suitable outdoor venues.

The 2003 Sanger Theater was my first time to see this outstanding group. Tonite is my 4th Coldplay concert with an encore in Houston next month!

Just got back from the Arena. I'm typing this on my phone so it'll be short and sweet until I can write something longer on my computer.
This was both mine and my friend's first Coldplay show. I made her come with me even though she barely knows any of their songs. Let's just say after tonight she's been converted. The boys were absolutely amazing. Definitely one of the best shows I've ever been to. As far as the setlist goes, I was a bit foggy on it but I checked Nashville's and I'm pretty sure it was the exact setlist. Like at the Nashville show, they went offstage and down the aisle (where I got to touch Chris and Guy's hands :D /fangirl), where they went up and sang a few songs by the people in the back in the 1st level up. The guy behind me was watching Chris and all of his usual stage antics and said, "He is high as a kite." lol
In short, it was amazing. I cannot wait to go again.

Each gig they do is full of energy, they draw in the crowd, the visuals are wonderful and of course, the music is what brought me there. There were no disappointments last night.
My 11 year old grand daughter even got to touch Chris Martin. That look on her face was worth all the money spent . Then she proclaimed she wasn't going to wash that hand for a month....Can YOU remeber those times?
I do not remember the play list to report to you. Sorry, but at 56 I'm allowed. Can tell you I heard nothing new, but am sure there will be soon.

Probably the best show i've seen so far... but a few hiccups w/ arena personnel. I'll post a solid review later, but they did play one song in the bleachers, first level, that's not on the setlist. It seemed to be New Orleans tune, similar to, i suppose, Georgia on my Mind at the Atlanta gig.

I wanted to address this VIP seating thing we all discussed on this thread earlier.
We had seats in Floor A,row 7 & 8. and Floor B row 6....
The actual seating last night was a VIP A section and a VIP B section starting at the stage. Each of those 2 sections had 8 rows with 14 seats in each row. 112 seats X 2 or 224 seats UP FRONT AND CLOSE.(an expanded pit???).......These VIP seats started at the stage and worked back.
Behind these VIP sections were the "STANDARD" floor seats .
Obviously you can not buy these VIP seats, or am I wrong?
If someone knows a way to get these seats, please drop me a PM or email.
About the gig they did up in the bleachers- I counted 2 songs and a funny. The cell phone wave was great also........
:)
Yaayy finally something to read :D

A few topics/issues:
1) The VIP seating. I bought VIP row 10 through Ticketmaster. I believe when the "good" Coldplay tickets went on sale a few weeks late for all of the shows, these became available. There was an option to purchase VIP Floor on the Ticketmaster seating choices. What pissed me off, was that I called the arena several times and they told me that VIP was the same as main floor, so i bought row 3 tickets from a secondary seller. Waste of money, and I sat in my VIP 10th row.
2) VIP rows. There were supposed to be 10 rows and they only sat up 9. (the first row only had two seats all the way in the left and right). Talk about serious problems. Poor security people didn't know what to do. Bad execution by the New Orleans Arena all the way around with the floor seating.
3) Satellite stage. Please tell me this wasn't a dream, but didn't they sing a New Orleans friendly song? Someone please confirm:inquisitive: If so, what was it?
4) The show. I have seen this tour 5 times now and have to say this is the friendliest I've seen them in front of a crowd. The Atlanta amphitheater show was very good too; but, I'm surprised how well they were with the crowd. I liked the purple shirt Chris was wearing also, I hadn't seen that one yet.
5) Exiting. I went with my sister and after Yellow, she spotted a yellow unpopped balloon and grabbed and hung on to it throughout the show. Her intention was to take it home with her. After passing several security people, one lady she passed just said, you can't take that, and popped it in her hands. I was pissed yet again.
6) Speed of Sound. Replaced by Glasses of Water I believe, which is a good substitution.
Final thoughts: Fabulous show but I was perturbed with the Arena and the people they had working there. I didn't get a CD because I already had one from previous shows. I know this wasn't really a review, but just some thoughts that ran longer than I expected! haha

Your review is very good. I am pissed at security too for what they did to your sister & her balloon. For Pete's sake, its a BALLOON. Overall, I think they did a good job, but it only takes one instance such as yours to spoil an otherwise wonderful night.Try to keep in mind these people are very low paid workers.:laugh3:

Coldplay warmed up to the New Orleans Arena
Musicians fortunate enough to perform in arenas sometimes act as if they've done their audience a favor simply by showing up. Not Coldplay.
On Tuesday night in a nearly full New Orleans Arena, Coldplay went well beyond the call of duty. The musicians were not, for instance, required to march to the rear of the building and deliver an unabashed unplugged set in the middle of section 109.
Vocalist Chris Martin did not need to alter the lyrics of "Fix You," or quasi-freestyle, to match the concert's setting ("sitting in the place where the Hornets play...I don't know if you know what it means/when you know the musical history of New Orleans").
And Coldplay certainly was under no obligation to distribute free copies of "LeftRightLeftRightLeft," a nine-song live CD recorded earlier on the tour, to attendees as they exited.
But they did all this, and more.
Dressed up in "Les Miserables" chic to match the cover of their current "Viva la Vida" CD, the quartet arrived on stage twirling sparklers. A similarly playful mood prevailed, despite frequent lyrical pathos.
Representatives of Oxfam, an international anti-poverty organization championed by Martin, roamed concourses, but the singer refrained from proselytizing. Instead, he was exceedingly likable as the band's sole source of charisma.
He needled "Jonny Boy" Buckland for the guitarist's alleged reluctance to perform in public ("you chose the wrong profession"). He orchestrated the "first, as far as we know" New Orleans cell phone wave. He literally bent over backwards, touching his skull to the floor. He fought off beach ball-size yellow balloons during "Yellow." He pantomimed taking hits to the body, collapsed in a heap, then sprang to life and arrived back at a microphone on cue.
Taking turns on acoustic guitar and keyboards, he also contributed to a sonic profile that was as crisp as I've ever heard in the unforgiving arena. Behind Martin, drummer Will Champion was particularly aggressive, boosting "Clocks" with extra strikes on his floor tom. Buckland and bassist Guy Berryman were content to render their required parts with precision; Buckland, the anti-guitar hero, churned out chiming notes and riffs.
http://blog.nola.com/keithspera/2009/06/large_coldplay%20wide%20shot.jpg
All four bunched up at the tip of a stage runway for a techno-beat "God Put A Smile Upon Your Face." Martin's bandmates left him alone at a piano for the "Phil Collins segment of the show," which he likened to "just before Justin Timberlake left NSync and he had a suspicion that he wanted to go on his own."
With that, Martin conjured a lovely "The Hardest Part," his voice easily scaling the necessary heights. Following the instrumental "Postcards From Far Away," the band rejoined him for the rousing "Viva la Vida" title track.
The aforementioned acoustic interlude in the back bleachers spanned the early ballad "Green Eyes" -- with Champion and Buckland on acoustic guitars and Berryman on mandolin -- and "I'm a Believer," the Neil Diamond-penned Monkees hit. Champion also sang "Death Will Never Conquer."
The strobe lights of the driving "Politik" made for a jarring, post-acoustic transition.
Thousands of fluorescent paper butterflies erupted from confetti cannons during "Lovers in Japan." "Death and All His Friends" wrapped up the main set, followed by an encore of "The Scientist" and "Life In Technicolor II."
The career arcs of most arena acts follow a predictable course from that first, ungainly rush of fame to cashing in on recitals of old hits on the nostalgia circuit. Coldplay occupies the sweet spot in between, where experience intersects with still-vibrant creative energies.
Tuesday's well-rounded, confident and compelling show is the result.
Scottish quintet Snow Patrol, the middle act on Tuesday's bill, served up precise, meaty versions of mid-tempo fare that, in temperament and tone, approximates Keane, Death Cab for Cutie and Coldplay. The natural ache in Gary Lightbody's voice illuminated the bittersweet "Run," which he dedicated to New Orleans.
Lightbody and company embraced their assigned role: To warm up the crowd for Coldplay. "You're about to be blown the hell away, I promise you that," Lightbody said.
It was no false promise.

A lot has been said about Coldplay not changing up the setlist much if at all; however, after reading that story, it made me realize that this show is really really awesome. There is a reason I've been drawn to it so many times. Each time they deliver.
What more can we really ask?

I signed up today to give my review of the show but I see Keith Spera of the The Times-Picayune said everything I wanted to say! (If confused by this comment, please see the article Mimixxx posted above!)
I have been a fan of Coldplay since 2000 and this was my first Coldplay concert. It was a fantastic experience! Chris is so charismatic and really seemed to enjoy interacting with the crowd. No matter what I say, it will never be enough to adequately describe the show last night! It was amazing!

Pguild142, the song with the "New Orleans tune"...are you talking about "I'm a Believer" where Chris asked each band member if they were in love?

I thought he sounded good, although I did not even notice him struggling during The Scientist. I actually found that I they sound much better live than they do recorded, unlike other bands when they perform live. That is just my opinion though.

Can anyone tell me when coldplay actually took the stage? I am going to a concert in a few days and cannot go right at 7:00. They moved the start time up from 7:30. I want to make sure I am there by the time they go one.

First off, let me start off by saying that the concert was absolutely amazing. It was my first time seeing them live and it was definitely the best show I've ever been to.
I won backstage passes, so my cousin and I were lucky enough to meet and chat with the band before the show started. The guys were awesome to say the least. There were quite a few moments when I honestly thought that I would faint from sheer happiness  It was definitely one of the best experiences of my life. Hopefully I’ll be able to post some pictures from the show later…
I hope everyone who went had an amazing time :D

Hey guys.
Below is a link to my facebook album page of all the shows I have gone seen so far this tour. I will admit, I have stolen a couple of pictures from other sources, but only ones where I or the person I'm went with are in (you can tell by the tags). All others are mine :D My sister went to Bonnaroo, and took the camera, so my personal NOLA pics aren't up yet.

P.S. I can't remember if it was the beginning of I'm a believer or not, to reply to an earlier post.

Sadly, as soon as they walked in the room, I forgot every question I had intended to ask them! And of course, I remembered everything I wanted to ask as soon as we left the room  But we did talk a bit about drinking ages (I'm still not entirely sure how we got onto that subject ). We also all had a good laugh when Chris realized that his pants had been undone the entire time :laugh3:
I can't even remember how I replied to half of what they said. I just hope I didn't say anything too embarrassing :wacky:

I'm really surprised by all the empty seats in the background of this picture. I was at the show and it seemed to me that every seat in the lower level was PACKED and that 90% of the seats in the upper level were full.
Was that not the case?

Mike,
I was standing about two rows behind where this picture was taken. It is my impression that the section there was not sold to the public and maybe people sat there to improve their own view? Because the other sections were indeed packed.
Don't quote me on this, but that is what I thought at the time, and since that mini section is almost behind the stage, could make sense.

I do not remember the umbrella use at the Toyota Center in Houston last November 18th. I could be wrong since my seats were so fricking far from the stage (floor seats, all the way to the back) that I was hardly able to make out people up there!:laugh3:
