I see you're going to many a gig this leg of the tour Angie. Wooo hoo!

MANDY, no no no you must get a close ticket. Buy a single one and for sure you'll be up front. And most likely right down the line from me. :sneaky:

Hi all...first time poster here!

I just got my tickets too....I was a little disappointed in the seats it was giving me. Nothing too close or in the center. Is that the way presale usually goes? I ended up going with row OO off to the left which should be fine. I don't really care either way...I'm going!!!

brkwall33
20-03-2009, 04:06 PM
I got offered left or center but had to refresh ALOT to get center, I was hoping for right but I got seats about 30 rows from the stage so I am happy. I just glad I get to go

Well slap me silly! I didn't have tickets for this gig but it's my birthday this week and my good ol' Dad surprised me some lawn tickets! yeeee hawww!

I've never seen the band from so far away buuuuut, it's going to be great. I'm just purely excited I don't have to say I missed them on this leg of the tour. Does Chris still run out into the audience for some fun? I'll be there to catch his sneaky little butt. :laugh3:

Oy, but it does look we are going to have rather crappy weather. Rain ponchos and Coldplay what a combo. :P

Yes! Chris and the band will be running in to the lawn actually!! It'll be on the far left side, so you coldplayers that'll be on the lawn...make sure you're over their first. there'll be a small stage set up and they'll play like 3 songs and you can be right next to them! good luck!

and also...I have a quick question for those going to this show...would anyone be interested in getting me a bunch of the leftrightleftright albums that are being given away at the end of the show? a bunch of friends and myself really would like the album, and I've got some friends outside of the US that would really really like a copy. I know you can download it, but we all want hard copies. If anyone wants to help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated and I would pay for the shipping of the cds to me and if anyone can get me a box of cds I'll pay $50 plus the cost of shipping (like on paypal or ebay or something). my friends and I really really really want a cd, (as do a bunch of my friends' friends that live in other countries). I would be very very greatful. Let me know if you can help me out.

Thanks guys! Have a great time at the show!!!

01-06-2009, 07:11 PM
I would think they'd only give out one per person, but I'm not sure. Have you heard of other venues giving away multiple copies to people?

I'm super excited for the show, although a little annoyed because my sister is bailing out because she's sick. Still totally psyched to go though! And yes, I'm so glad our seats are well under the pavillion with this rain!!

they typically just give out one per person, yeah :(
I got one copy at the camden, nj but I can't find it anywhere. and a friend of mine that went with me actually grabbed a whole box. but he stupidly left it on the top of the car and i guess it fell off somewhere when driving. i'm hoping maybe someone can get one and i'd be willing to pay a little for it.

Just a regular little digi camera? I was planning on sneaking mine in because I was too nervous to the last time. But that's awesome if I don't have to be sneaky about it. I'm so excited too...I keep getting butterflies in my stomach when I think about it. I really need to grow up! ;)

You don't say!? Well thanks for the tip.

Oh the Michigan/Detroit topics never really take off. Coldplayers are few and far between in these parts. haha. But there are some veterans still around here. I'm finally getting to the point where I dont hyperventilate before the gig. I mean the first time I heard/saw CP live, I nearly fell over in the parking lot from hearing the soundcheck. Anyways, now I"m more suited for enjoying the show and can't wait to see watch them in the rain. It's been my dream since watching the Live 2003 DVD.

Coldplay is not only one of the biggest bands in the world, sharing rarified air with bands like U2 and Radiohead, but it also may be the most likeable.

The British foursome brought its massive show to DTE Energy Music Theatre Tuesday, playing to an adoring sold-out audience of more than 15,000 fans. The show set the bar quite high for the 2009 summer concert season and was one of the most thrilling concerts DTE has hosted in years.

After just four albums, Coldplay has amassed a catalog stacked with populist anthems, from the still-rousing "Clocks" and "In My Place," to newer smashes "Viva la Vida" and "Lost."

And the band delivered them Tuesday in invigorating fashion, complete with a busy stage show that included laser beams, balloon drops and two mini-stages set up in the audience -- one in the pavilion seats and one at the foot of the lawn.

The band, which boasts an impressive cross-generational appeal, isn't too cool to play its first hit, "Yellow," and isn't afraid to go for cheap pops by inserting local references into songs such as "Violet Hill" or "Cemeteries of London." This is a hard-working band that gives its all -- and, as evidenced by the huge smiles on the band members' faces, loves every minute of it.

They were even apologetic about being scheduled opposite the Stanley Cup Finals. "I don't know much about the NHL," lead singer Chris Martin told the crowd halfway through the show. "I do understand how much you had to sacrifice to come to our concert. I just want you to know how much we appreciate that. If this was Britain, nobody would have come."

My friend and I were sitting on the lawn, and had really awful seats. Two of the roadies came up and quizzed us with coldplay trivia. After we answered them, they told us we had an upgrade on our seats, and they gave us new tickets. We ended up sitting front row literally 2 feet from the stage. It was such an amazing show, and we were so close. We even got to touch Chris's hand, and it literally made our summer. It was my second Coldplay show, and to be able to see them from the front row probably was one of the best moments in my life, if not the absolute best!!!!!

Okay seriously that was AWESOME! It was a wonderful night and I'm sure everyone in attendance enjoyed it. This was my third Coldplay concert, and it was by far the best. Loved Chris’ energy and the crowd was just so into it. The weather was perfect, as well. I thought it was generous of the band to go up twice to perform for those with crappy seats. Luckily, my seat was on the edge and I captured the band members as they were going up to the lawn. I was debating whether or not I should take pictures or capture the moment on video. So I opted to record it. The best part, however, was that I touched Chris!! Lol I'm such a nerd!!! It was more of like a pat. But hey, it still counts:) Below is the video. And yes, that's me screaming my head off:D

Coldplay was all of four songs into its concert Tuesday night at the DTE Energy Music Theatre when frontman Chris Martin declared "It's gonna be a good one!"

And nothing that happened during the next 19 numbers undermined that prediction.

Then again, good Coldplay shows are nothing new. Dipping into the playbooks of forebears such as Pink Floyd, Queen, nine inch nails and especially U2, the British quartet has been consistently adept at turning its mix of anthemtic and ambient rock into a visceral and visual treat when they hit the stage. It's a testament to Coldplay's four-album career that the group can toss three of its biggest hits -- "Clocks," "In My Place" and "Yellow" -- into the first 25 minutes of the show and still have plenty of top-shelf material to carry the rest of the night, all accented by Martin's Muppet-like energy and earnestly grateful stage demeanor.

"I don't know much about the NHL," he said before playing "The Hardest Part on a night when the Red Wings were playing Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals in Pittsburgh. "I do understand how much you had to sacrifice to come to our concert...If this were in Britain nobody would be here...They would have just left us with an empty room, like we used to have."

Hockey or not, it's likely none of the nearly 15,000 at DTE would have wanted to be anywhere else on Tuesday. Nine months into a world tour Coldplay was still in solid, dynamic form, and its staging -- from the legion of yellow balloons bouncing around the pavilion during "Yellow" to an opulent lighting array and lasers -- added an aura of spectacle to the proceedings. The group's latest album, "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends," was still the star of the show -- with 10 of the album's 11 songs in the set list -- and the likes of "Violet Hill," "42," "Cemeteries of London" and "Strawberry Swing" sat nicely alongside the big hits. Martin made another nod to the locale by injecting a bit of Eminem's Academy Award-winning "Lose Yourself" -- whose co-writer, Luis Resto, sat in the crowd -- into the song "Viva La Vida."

Some of the show's best moments were literally off the stage -- the main one, at least. Coldplay did not let the outdoor amphitheater setting deter it from going into the crowd, playing a few songs -- including a medley of "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" and "Talk" -- on a small platform on the far right side of the DTE pavilion, then trooped to another stage at foot of the lawn to play a three-song acoustic set that closed with the Monkees' "I'm a Believer" and a Martin-instituted "Mexican cell phone wave" that sent a wash of hand-held light throughout the venue.

This was Coldplay's second Detroit-area stop in the past seven months, and with the group working on a new album even as it continues to tour, there's every possibility it will return sooner than later. Given Tuesday's show, that can't happen too soon.

i'm sorry, i totally suck and i just saw this!!
i had been late getting there, and the 1st warmup band was on (the howling bells, i think. or at least whoever went on before pete yorn) and the two women asked the girls next to me some questions, and then they got up and began to leave. So i asked the girls if my friend and i could have their spot. The two women then told us that they wanted to ask us some questions. They asked what was Coldplay's first grammy winning song (clocks), what their first album was (parachutes) and who they collaborated with at the 2009 grammys' (jay-z). When i had answered the questions they asked me what i thought about front row, and i cried lol. it was literally the best night of my life.
