Woohoo so going. Went to both the *edit*Viva*edit* concerts at the Verizon center, and am looking forward to this one, although I've never been to the Nissan Pavilion.

Concert #5, here I come! I'm SO excited, even if it's at Nissan which is a bit random. I haven't been there since I saw the Backstreet Boys like 10 years ago :P

Be forewarned, traffic around the Nissan Pavilion is an absolute nightmare! The Radiohead show was a disaster (granted, it was raining a lot, but it's the norm to take 2-3 hours to get there from a place that's really just 30 minutes away).

If you're attending this or any concert at this venue, do try to get there in the morning and hang out, seriously. The way the highway/roads are there and they way they manage parking are terrible. Unfortunately, the only decently-sized amphitheaters in the DC area are in the middle of nowhere.

That said, I hope everyone can make it to the concert on time! Once inside the venue, it'll be loads of fun.

All good advice, you're so right! Also be sure to wear comfy shoes for walking because if you wind up in the outer reaches of the parking lot it can be tedious walking on the paving rocks they use. (sandals are cool but shaking rocks out from under your foot every few steps is not fun!)

I actually got in to the Maroon 5 concert last year with very little trafffic even though I arrived relatively late (about 7:30). But yeah, allow plenty of time!

Would be cool to have some kind of meetup on the stage left side over by the bar and merch booths. I'm pretty new to this board, are you guys a social lot? :D

I know the presale starts at 10 on Thursday; sadly, I will be at work then and won't be able to try to get tickets until about 5 pm. Does anyone know if the presale ends at a certain time?

Thanks for the info. I looked on the livenation site and signed up with them. In the presale area it refers to ticketrush so I went to their site and signed up with them and they already gave a password which lasts a month. So now my question is do I buy tickets through livenation or go directly to ticketrush. Also where is the password posted on this site and does it matter what password I use (ticketrush or coldplaying). I'm curious if the password denotes certain seats for sale or am I way over thinking this? One last comment: it doesn't seem like its a presale if anyone can get a password after signing up on the ticket sites. Any thoughts? Thanks

Yeah, you're over-thinking it. :P There's one password given out by Ticket Rush (which you already have) that you can enter on Live Nation during the presale, and it doesn't mean certain seats, just the ones they put up in presale. Buy straight from Live Nation if you can, when I did the presale in February for my other concert in August, Ticket Rush actually crashed when the tickets went on sale. Luckily I had Live Nation up in another window, or it would've been a disaster!

And yes, since it's open to everyone it's not much of a presale, the whole thing is rather ridiculous. But you'd be surprised by how many people see "presale" and shrug it off instead of actually looking to see if it's free/open to everyone. :dozey:

I remember before the two concerts at Verizon Center the info was all on livenation.com. So they have their show coming up on May 21 and tickets on sale at the end of this week but I cant find out what the ticket prices will be or figure out whether the orchestra section is seated or standing...anybody know?!

Orchestra and Pit are the same at Nissan. Nissan calls it Orchestra, and it holds about 20 rows.

Elevated sections start at 100 level.

When you go to livenation there is a section when you want to look for seats that says 'promotion code' and then there is a drop down list of choices. Sometimes the choice says 'ticketrush presale'. Is this something in general everyone is supposed to use and then put in the STRINGS password or is it something all together different? I just didn't want to get seats using this and then pay and get to some window asking for a valid code and I don't have one. Anyone used this?

Well that was an crappy experience. Like I said it has been forever since I went to a concert so I panicked and bought the first tickets I got. If you read too much about these concerts and how they sell out in minutes, unless your willing to pay $500 plus for a ticket, you get paranoid thinking if you don't buy the ones offered your next try could be worse. Oh well. Live and learn. I ended up with 101 t far end. Bummer. I did not look close enough to the seat chart to remember which way the row numbers went. Oops. Hope you all did better

that is easily the worst presale i've ever tried. Not only does it charge you by how close you are to the stage, but how centred you are to it too! No seats were availiable at the $60 ($85 in reality)range closer than row h, and you could only get ones in the right most section. I'll be trying again tomorrow.

hey, i suffer from the same paranoid thinking as you do. i got floor seats for my show, row t when they went on sale at 10am which are still very good. i just went on again for fun and there is row m available. i'm sad :(

What section are the floor seats? Is that lawn? Everyone keeps refering to rows and not sections. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only panicky one. I wish I had known seats slightly better are still available two hours later. I wonder if it would be better if tickets went back to the good ol'days when you had to camp out and it was left up to you and how bad you really wanted the tickets. Not fun but at least it seemed more fair.

Ok so I have been on all day checking the seats available for RESV 1 and all day the only section and rows that have come up are Section 101 rows R, S, T, V, W, X. I am curious if anyone else looking for RESV 1 seats had other options come up?

I bought another set of tickets because these sounded down in front. they are GA Pit g03 seat 23 and 24. While panicking trying to figure out where these were I called the livenation phone line and the lady said it was standing only the seat number was just for them to number tickets. It sounds like its just a pass to get into the area then you stand where you like but i still have my doubts. If anyone finds out more info I would love to know.

I called again and asked and she said its one big area and first come first served does not matter what row/seat. I wonder how early you have to get there to line up to get into the area. I can't see any other way of doing it. But I am very excited nevertheless.

I ended up with Section 101, Row T. The first time I tried I got Row W, but that seemed really far back. I got row T the next time, and opened up a new window and got section 202! So I panicked, and figured I better stick with row T. Congrats to everybody who ended up with pit seats!!

OMG, a meetup would be great! I am going to the show with two others who are not on this forum, but we've been to fan meetups for other bands before and it's always a blast!

Unfortunately it's a weeknight concert, and I don't live/work that close to the venue...I'm already leaving work early on May 19 to see Keane in DC (anyone here going to that one too?!) so it could be hard to sneak out on the 21st for Coldplay :laugh3:

How about we pick one of the bars inside Nissan and meet there when the gates open? What my friends and I will probably do is one of us will stake out a spot in the pit and the others can meet up at the bar with the coldplayers; then we'll switch so each of us gets a chance for a drink among friends ;)

I just heard that the pit can either be get there early and stand in line to get in or they do a lottery so you don't have to arrive early. I will try to find out which it is but if any of you find out I would love to know. Rather not wait around to find out its a lottery.

Logarithm--I hope your mom does not back out because its the pit. I'm wondering if I will last and its nice to know my husband and I won't be the only older ones there plus we would love to meet her and any other fans if you don't mind hanging out with old people (40's).

I was wondering the same thing! I was considering going to this show when I was visiting a friend, but we ended up changing the dates. If you go to Live Nation now and use the 'select a seat' option thing (the graphical layout that shows the exact seats) you can get amazingly good seats... PIT, first 10 rows in the front sections... it's so weird... Anyway, I'd suggest anyone who hasn't gotten tickets, or wants better ones, to go to Live Nation now and use that option to select your seats!

That's an excellent question. Last time I was in the pit at a coldplay show - it was at Nissan... I didn't arrive super early, and just hung toward the back of the pit and watched an amazing show... without some jackass sweat-humping me from behind because everyone is surging to the stage.

If, however, you need to be front and center on the rail - it becomes a little more difficult. I had pit tix to a NIN show (also at Nissan), and to get the rail on that night, you had to be in line at the gate SUPER early. You end up getting in a single file line, and walked to the stage before the show. At that point, you have hurry to claim your real estate and post up - stick it out without relinquishing your spot for the entirety of the concert. Definitely not my style, but - if you're a wear-the-band's-shirt-on-the-day-of-the-show kind of fanatic... Get in line embarrassingly early.

Just a suggestion. See you all there.

Thanks for the info! I'm a 'stand at the back of the pit and watch a great show' kind of fan, so I think I'll be fine in any case. Just didn't want to have a bad view, but I guess since I am tall anywhere in the pit should be a good view, right?

Called again to find out more on getting into the pit. Again they said it is standing only and that it was not a lottery but a line up. I asked what time would be good to get there and the girl said when the lots open which she won't know when the lots open until that week. By the way I won tickets to the concert through the radio station. I was hoping for backstage passes but they did not have any. First time I won anything through the radio.

Sorry I have not been on line but the number is 703-754-6400. The parking lot opens at 4:00 so she said you can't get in before that. Then you line up at a gate. When they open the gates it is a free for all to get to the pit. So be fast. I want a good place but I don't want to get trampled getting there. I wonder what time the band gets there? Sooooooo excited. I hope everyone gets a good place.

All of the Coldplayers should look out for each other in the pit :) Cause there's no way I'm going 7 hours without going to the bathroom (or buying some more Coldplay merch :P), but I don't want to lose my spot because of it! So we should stand up for each other :dance:

I think we'll recognize each other cause we'll be the ones sprinting to the pit when the gates open, while everyone else is walking :lol:

Good point about the pee issue. I hope I can withstand. Personally I'm wondering how hot it will be in the pit. Is it so many people cramming together that your sweating. If so then I think I may wear shorts instead of jeans. Just Liz alone is going to put off so much heat staring at Guy that it could raise the temp 10 degrees. HaHa. Also, tennis shoes or flip flops? Anybody else have clothing issues?

Last night I saw Keane in DC and they kicked butt! It was a good warm up for Coldplay for sure :-) Got some amazing pictures and really hope security is cool about cameras so I can get some pictures tomorrow night :dance:

I'm new here, and this will be my first time going to Nissan tomorrow. I'm hearing a lot about the 4pm parking, does anyone know about the premier parking and how that works? I know it's $20+ or something like that, but I wonder how I can get it.

Also, are there bathrooms before doors anywhere?????? I hear that there are porta potties somewhere, and before you get to Nissan that there is a Target/Burger King 5 minutes away from the venue.

What happens if you get there at 2pm, is there anywhere to park temporarily?

Put Coldplay's three 2009 Grammy Awards and front man Chris Martin's marriage to actress Gwyneth Paltrow aside for a minute.

Coldplay has just proven -- once again -- that they're not caught up in all the traditional rock-and-roll egoism. Late last week, the band members announced those who attend the "Viva La Vida" summer tour will receive an exclusive live CD, "LeftRightLeftRightLeft," free of charge.

"Playing live is what we love," the British alt rock quartet released in a prepared statement. "This album is a thank you to our fans -- the people who give us a reason to do it and people who make it happen."

Coldplay has been riding high musically since last summer's "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends," which won the coveted Grammy for Best Rock Album of the year and other honors.

Publicists for the band have long said that the group doesn't fit into the popular music mold due to its "soulful, haunting, intelligent songsÉ" But others said the band, which had its first major label release in 2000, actually doesn't fit in because it achieved popular success fairly quickly.

Jefferson Evans of Alexandria said he thinks the band's decision to release its current album free of charge may compel many to listen to the band without automatically dismissing them as a pop phenomenon.

"I think it is a good ideal. They have gotten big enough to suffer a bit of the inevitable backlash when a band becomes 'too popular,'" said Evans. "I had e-mailed a number of friends after listening to the [latest] album, saying I was pleasantly surprised, and one had responded 'I promise not to tell anyone you listen to Coldplay.' [This will] create goodwill to solidify their base and counter any real or perceived backlash out there."

Although Glen Boyd, assistant music editor at BlogCritics.com, doesn't think the tour will boost the band's popularity, he does see it as an interesting marketing move.

"Coldplay emulates Radiohead in a lot of ways, so it only makes sense that they would follow the free download model established by Radiohead with 'In Rainbows,'" he said. "I don't think it will make a bit of difference as far as boosting their popularity or ticket sales though. They are already one of the biggest bands in the world."

Don't think the free album giveaway is the only way Coldplay is reaching out to fans, presumably to retain the "biggest band in the world" title.

LiveNation and Coldplay Web sites are filled with rave reviews of the concerts with fans talking about how the band members ran into the audiences, played from mini-stages situated to everyone could see them, and otherwise reached out.

"The concert is completely worth it," said one fan. "The [band members] talk to you and make you feel worth it when you are there."
