How do LiveNation.com presales work?

Oh my, I figure that I can travel by train to NC, but coming back is a tad difficult because the trip is 15 hours! I could get on time for the Tampa concert, but I wanted to be early for the one in my city
Road trip...anyone?

Does anyone know the price range for the show? I can't find any info anywhere. It'd be appreciated. :D

I read on LiveNation.com something between $47-97, but that's for Tampa. Dunno if it varies.

I don't know either..I read one that was $35-97. I checked out StubHub and there are already tickets on there in the $100s.

if anyone gets two extra seats in sections 1, 2, or 3 up front, i'll gladly pay you double the price for both of them (unless you're kind enough to sell them to me at face value). ticketrush is not working for me this morning, i'm about to have a nervous breakdown! thanks!!!!!!!!

Just got two (2) tickets in section 5 row M, not too bad! I'm hoping they schedule a stop in Atlanta as I am much closer - Not sure if I'll keep these tickets but I'll definitely post again if I let them go. I much rather see a Coldplayer get them than ebaying or craigslisting them!

13-02-2009, 03:36 PM
ok, if anyone is buying seats today for charlotte and happens to get anything up close in the front 3 sections (front 10 rows), if you buy an extra two tickets, i'll gladly buy them from you ASAP. i already have 2 sets and keep buying more the closer i can get and plan to sell the others. i am dying for up front seats!

My friend and I both tried the presale AND the main sale this morning, going for the $97 tickets and "Best Available." We never got better than the middle sections. I'm sorry, but $130 each (after all of Live Nation's service charges) is WAY too much to pay for uncovered seats.
So I suspect we'll just hit the lawn and get there early to see Elbow. But if someone has extra Section 1, 2, or 3 tickets (we need 3) I'll gladly pay face value plus charges for them. Yeah, you won't make the kind of insane $$ you would on eBay or Craigslist, but your conscience will be clean..........

localola86
13-02-2009, 07:47 PM
^I think it depends on the city.
Houston would sell quicker than Oregon.
Yeah, LiveNation and Tickermaster stink! They probably will sell certain amount of tickets every day.
When I went to see Jason Mraz, I found a good seat 2 weeks before the concert thru the venue website. Meanwhile, I checked Ticketmaster every day and it would say that they had no more tickets

i bought 4 sets of tickets trying to get up front, won't have any problem selling them. i was so disappointed with my seats in atlanta in november that i swore i'd pay whatever it takes to get front and center next time, i'm going to do it damnit! i actually tried bribing people in atlanta to swap seats with me and offered them $100 cash as an exchange. stupid me, should have offered much more. would have been worth it. but to go back 20 rows for $100 in this economy.... LOL. i was too cheap. no takers.

In Atlanta I got one single ticket in Section 1 right next to the special stage a month before the show on TicketMaster. I'm hopeful that LiveNation will do the same and release more tickets as we get closer to August.

I still say we get some lawn seats, throw a party, Coldplay will see how awesome we are and invite us down to the pit. Haha! Actually, that is a good idea, the thing is to be at the venue early enough. There have been some Coldplayers who have gotten upgrades. Just you have to show your devotion. Three of us are planning on going to the NC concerts and then to Tampa. I haven't bought my NC tix, but I have time since I sitting on the lawn anyway. I wanna travel mostly to have more chances to meet the band.

Well, we got tickets! We decided to settle on Charlotte, though, since they had the best tickets left. So although Raleigh is only an hour away and the Queen City is about three hours away, it's still not so far away that it'd be difficult to go. Plus, even though I'm moving to the Raleigh area soon, I've always loved Charlotte. We ended up getting tickets in section 9... me and my girlfriend will be in row K, seats 1 and 2, and my friend Jonathan will be in row J, seat 3. I'm so pumped! :D

I guess...the area at the venue where the tour buses and trucks enter?
I have read on other concert threads that they get there around noon and 1pm.
Did you see them in Atlanta when they were entering?
You were all alone waiting!? must have been the time you were there, or just being the hard-core fan that tries to catch a glimpse of the band before the concert

Just thought I'd let you guys know, if you're still waiting on tickets through LiveNation, you really ought to get them now. I was checking the site again today and the ticket processing fees went up a dollar. What's up with that?

Pumped for this. Saw they guys in Chicago this last year. I go to Clemson, about two hours from Charlotte, and will be moving in to my apartment on the 5th. Not spending the 100 + this time as I did for Chicago though haha. I am a poor college student. Plus I love lawn seats for some reason haha, always have.

There's an auction on Ebay for 4 lawn seats. The seller has "Sold Out" in the title, and the price has went past face value for 4 tickets. I feel sorry for these people because they can actually get all 4 tickets cheaper on LiveNation. :(

All I know is, brokers and scalpers have had a field day with these tickets, haha.
My friend and I had an idea about how to tell who is from the forum at the show. When I went to go see Paul McCartney, the members of the forum would have pink glowsticks to wave around a such so you could be identified. I think we all should do that, but any color. You can get them cheap at some places. :laugh3:

Ok..here's my plans. We are going to arrive in Charlotte in the day before the show to check out everything and see where we need to go to wait for the band to come in and all that. We're spending the night in the hotel and are going to get at the venue around 11:45. We're bringing some folding chairs to sit on and a cooler of food. It's going to be me, my mom, sister, and bff. We're also making the jackets that Coldplay wore on The Grammys, they aren't going to be perfect but we're gonna try, haha. We're going to bring the stuff to make posters with us so we will have something to do while we wait, and we're also bringing snack cakes to give to the roadies and crew. We might being extra yellow glowsticks incase people forgot, and we will be in the lawn partying. :D

I haven't got a ticket for this show.
I'm waiting to see if Oxfam asks for voluteers.
I emailed the oxfam people I knew of, and they said to find out if we can work there, we have to wait until it's a few months closer to the day...so nerve racking, since this is the only out of the 3 I'm planning on going to that I have tickets to. But I have faith.
about the glow sticks--what if we did purple (for violet hill), or a combo of a bunch of colors (but we'd all have the same ones)
is there a group of people meeting up to try to see/meet the band before the concert? like with posters and stuff? if not, we should do it , maybe it'd happen!! yay..
and does anyone know of any hotels pretty close to the venue? the website for the venue doesn't really give great info.
thanks..sorry this has a lot of stuff in the post, i've been a slacker from this thread for a while.

Hi GreenEyes! Thanks for the info!
I have the same predicament. I got my ticket for Tampa, but I want to go to NC as well. I didn't want to buy tickets for the NC concerts since my summer plans are not concrete (i.e. summer job, summer classes, working on thesis).
Yeah, it's nerve-racking, but I think it's better to just be patient, don't worry
At the Tampa thread, everyone is up for the yellow glowsticks. So, I dunno if they want to do purple glowsticks too. But it could work to have 2 colors. On that thread, we started to speculate whether the band will stay at the Hard Rock Hotel, which is right next to the venue. I guess some will want to meet at the hotel, and others at the venue.
About Charlotte and Raleigh, if I get to go, I'll spend most of my time around the venue, like the crazy fangirl I am :laugh3:

I actually went to Priceline.com and typed in Charlotte, NC. Then there's an option that says find hotels near..and I picked the venue name. It'll give you a whole list of hotels and how far they are away from the venue.

hey everyone, I have to sell my Charlotte tickets since I bought Atlanta tickets, long story short & since I live in Atlanta.
Right now they're on sale on ebay, there are 2 of the $79 ones, and 1 of the $97 ones (my attempt at being close, but failed thanks to scalpers). I'm selling them for what me and my mom paid for them and it includes all the "convenience" fees...so if anyone doesn't have tickets and would like to buy these, let me know/go bid on them!

I am going to wait until closer to the show and see if anything better comes up. I have had success with that in the past, and have actually gotten very close seats a day or two before shows. Ticketmaster is notorious for releasing great seats a week or a few days before a show, but I don't know about Live Nation. Their fees are RIDICULOUS, what about $30 in convenience fees/charges?? Parking used to be free at Verizon, and now they have even added $6 for that to each ticket!
I tried for tickets during the presale and the gen. sale, but nothing came up close. I may end up on the lawn. My daughter wants to see them SO BAD. I saw them last time they were here in Charlotte from the 15th row and it was AWESOME!!! I know I can never afford to pay scalper/broker charges, my husband has been out of work for a year now.....but if I can find a way, I want to be at this show SO BAD!

no luck, I think I'm going to wait until it's a bit closer to the date and stuff..
and I'm not selling my tickets to make money off of them, it's kind of tough to buy tickets to 2 different shows and not be broke..not to mention I don't live in Charlotte so in addition to the tickets if I keep them, I'd have to pay for gas and a hotel, and it's not easy for some as it is for others. So when they added the ATL date, it's easier to go when you live 15 minutes away.

Hey all, this is my first day here but I've been browing the site for about 2 months now. I was wondering if anyone here's been to a concert in this amphitheatre and could help me out with some questions I have...
1. Does the facility have video screens in it or is it bare around the stage?
2. My seats are in section 9, I believe and I've been getting mixed reports on what our view would be like. Does anyone on here have a good opinion as to what they'll be like?
3. This is going to be my first Coldplay concert. What are they like?

You can find a lot out by searching here. I'll give you some quick answers:
1. Yes, there should be screens, part of their set.
2. I have some better for sale for face value if you want, but you'll be fine in section 9. Depending on what row or seat, you could have limited view, but most likely you'll be fine.
3. Amazing. I cannot write in 100 days what you might experience. It's a brilliant show, so much energy, just enjoy yourself and dance!
Hope you enjoy, I'll be there!

I've posted this on the Selling/Trading thread also, but I have four Pit tickets (500 tickets for standing right in front of the stage) that I need to unload. Stupid me already had tickets for another show (Jackson Browne) down in St. Augustine, FL, that same night (Aug. 7th) when I bought these. Argh!
Anyway, I'm looking to sell two of them for $250 (my actual cost through the Live Nation website was $256) and trade the other two for Tampa (Aug. 9th) pit tickets.
Please send me a PM if interested in either option.
Seen 'em twice on the tour already (Boston and Atlanta - both on the first leg indoors). Great show!

Indeed. Good luck to you, also. I know better than to wait until close to show date or attempt to sell them on site at the venue (although I won't be in town that day anyway, since I'll be down in FLA), as that's always a crap shoot. Plus with this current crummy economy, it's just really tough to move such expensive tickets right now. But PIT tickets should move, I think, plus I've got a couple of months to sell or trade them (hopefully I'll get that Tampa trade for two of 'em, somehow, as I'd really love to see this show from the Pit... especially since it appears to be the last North American date of the tour).
Do you know of other sites available to list them without fees? Craigslist, I guess, although I've never used it. I don't want to make a profit on these, but like you I certainly don't want to take a loss, either.
Take care,
Chris

I have 3 tickets to sell for this show...2 are together, and 1 is by itself. I can't remember what I paid for them, but I'm not selling them to make a profit..
I have them on stubhub.com, but I don't know if they will sell

Take care,
Chris
i've wondered the same thing. i'm going to try craigslist, ebay, stubhub, whatever i can. i know i'm taking a loss, i just don't want to try to sell them at the show.

green eyes, sorry i missed your question. i have sold 2 of my 4 sets. i put them for sale, then adjusted the prices so that they were the cheapest in each section. it makes selling them so easy. my best two got $221, i paid $265 total for them. the other set i paid the same, but only got $187 back. after the atlanta selling fiasco, i wasn't taking a chance!

Hey everyone, I just got an email from livenation saying the show is starting at 7 rather than 8. Does that mean that Coldplay comes on to play at 7? Or is that when the opening acts perform? Also, what time would be good to get there to be sure to see all the opening acts and Coldplay?

My wife and I are headed to this show....our first Coldplay show, am very excited. It's her first concert ever...I go to lots of shows, but she's never been to one....glad we're going together.
Got a question, does anyone know anything about camera policy? I know that Verizon allows cameras if bands do, and I'm pretty sure Coldplay does, but I want to know specifics. I'd like to bring my Nikon SLR and maybe two lenses, though I'm not sure if it'd be considered a professional camera. It's an old film FG and I can't find anything anywhere about this. Thanks for the help and looking forward to the show!!

you guys are definitely going to have a good time! I know that venues don't allow cameras with interchangeable lenses, but Coldplay does allow cameras..I don't know what would happen if you brought yours, but I'm sure if you just brought it with just one lens already on it, they might just glance at it and move on.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. Thanks for the confirmation on Coldplay's stance.
All my lenses are single focal length lenses, so it looks even more "amateurish" I would think. I'll be slightly stage left beside SB area. So I want to at least have a 105mm but was thinking about either my 135mm or my 180 as a secondary. I really really want to bring my real camera there....this is the kind of photography I've been wanting to do for a while.

ok so i have pit tickets for this show, do you know exactly how this works, is it inbetween the ramps or what?
Pguild142
15-07-2009, 10:15 PM
In between the ramps? I'm not sure I understand that.
But I will be in the PIT as well... and it is all the way in the front. In the Atlanta show there were two mini extensions on both sides (maybe these are the ramps you speak of?) and the pit was pretty much lodged in between. I stood in the corner of on of these extensions and the stage and it was a great view.
Hope this helps. Also, Charlotte Coldplayers: Are we going to be nice and hold each others spots if one of us needs to use the bathroom or grab a drink? In Atlanta this worked perfect. And what time did we decide to line up to get in? I want front and center this time :laugh3:

By the way, I will be wearing the London Yellow Shirt, so I will be easy to spot. I believe my girlfriend or sister (do not know who is joining me yet) will be as well. I was thinking about wearing VLV suits like the guys, but it may just be to damn hot.

I smuggled in my Nikon D40 with my detached 55-200mm zoom last weekend to Verizon here in Irvine. It was in the bottom of my purse with a water bottle, tickets, wallet, and other assorted stuff on top. No one said anything. It was so worth it to have my good camera, but i still left it on auto all night because I didn't want to spend time adjusting the settings. I'm not a great photographer, and am still learning, but it beat the hell out of my point and shoots. My pics are in my sig.

I'm starting to debate what time to get there. I want close, but it looks like by the looks of things, the pit barely has anyone in it when the gates open. If that's the case, is 2:30 to early? I need feedback
Also, you can see the stage well, since it's a small venue from the lawn. Also, be forewarned that they play a set in the lawn. Didn't mean to spoil, but it's good info to know.

Time to come out of the shadows and start posting again... only one week to go. It's hard to believe that it's so close now. When the tickets went on sale, it was half a year away... that seemed like a really long time. Now, we're down to a mere week. I can hardly wait! :)
A couple questions for those of you that have seen Coldplay live before... first, what's the deal with cameras? I'm sure they're technically not allowed, but do you just try to sneak it in and hope for the best? And do you need to keep flash off so you won't get noticed? Also, we got aisle seats, so will we be allowed to stand in the aisle the whole time, as long as we're near our seats? I mean, me and my friend will be having one of the best nights of our lives... surely we can't be expected to stay in our seats. Hopefully you guys can give me some help on these questions.
And although nobody will care, I thought I'd update my original post in this thread... my girlfriend won't be able to go; instead, my friend's dad will be going. But she is moving here in about a month (after four years of her living in Ohio and being 700 miles away from me... not fun at all), so I'm extremely happy about that. :D

As for the camera... I have taken a camera to every show I've been, and used the flash without a problem. Every show I've been to, it seems the entire crowd is on their feet. Oddly enough, the only one that wasn't was in Dublin, Ireland. I think there will be no problem with standing.

Well, the Coldplay karma in the universe will be balanced in 5 days, because I will be in the pit in Tampa! I decided last week that I *had* to be there. My husband was awesome, and said "go" so I'm going by myself. I used frequent flyer miles on Delta, so I just had to buy the pit ticket, pay for the hotel and car. And I'm getting to stay overnight Saturday in Atlanta to visit a dear friend and her family before flying to Tampa early Sunday morning. Hey guys!
I was able to get pit tix to this concert through a broker and received them via fedex today!! I am really excited to get to see Coldplay live!!! Hope to see some of you there!
Question for gmalool - What can you tell me about the pit setup?? The tix say general admission, but they also have a row and seat no. (row 1, seat 29 & 30). I am confused. I called the venue today, and all they could tell me was that there were 500 tix sold in the pit area. Do you know if it is going to be assigned seating or true GA?? If it is true GA, how early do you need to get there to be at or near the front?? They told me the gates open at 4pm. I will be driving up from SC the day of the show and am trying to determine when to leave. Also, what do you know about the stage extending into the pit?? I heard the sides were a good spot as well.
Thanks,

You might want to check the venue website. I'm going to the Tampa show, and want to bring my Nikon D40. I snuck it in to the Irvine, CA show last month, but this is what it says for Tampa :
"Items not allowed in this venue include professional cameras with S, M, or L detachable lenses, audio and video recorders, alcoholic beverages or soft drinks, large or hard coolers, weapons of any kind (this includes pocket knives and watch chains), laser pointers, and glass or metal containers."
My camera, though it has a detachable lens, is not a professional camera with any of those lenses but i'm going to print out this page if there is any problem. Of course, I won't "advertise" that I have my camera, but if they ask about it...

Thanks,
JThunder
There are no assigned spots in the pit. They just put the row and seat numbers on the tickets for countability purposes. And, I would suggest getting there about an hour prior to gates opening to secure a front row spot in the PIT, which is something you don't want to let go. And meet some ppl that can save your spot if you need to get up for bathroom, drinks, etc. Im driving up from South Carolina also tommorow. The stage in Atlanta was RIGHT next to the pit, probably like 5-6 feet. I like to go right between Jonny and Chris. But don't worry, everything will work out. What part of SC are you in?

Penny,
You won't be able to miss us. My girlfriend and I will be wearing the Yellow London Butterfly shirts. You should come up and say hello. That goes for all other fellow coldplayers who will be lining up early for the PIT. :D
I'm hoping we can all get together in line, get to know each other a bit, and get spots front and center of the pit and maybe save each others spots for the visits to the bathroom and beverage cart :)
Hey PGuild! I dont think Ive ever chatted with you on the board, but sounds like a good idea to get in line before the show. Let me know what you think?

I'm definitely down for it. Also, what is this VIP fast lane ticket? I just got an email from Live Nation about it. $5 and no wait. I wonder if they get in earlier? Any ideas?
I may purchase a couple. After all, I can spare $10.
Also, that email said parking starts at 4. How will this effect us trying to get there at 2 or 2:30.....

I received an email with the links. If you believe we should buy them, then I will. I can forward you (and anyone else) the email. Just PM your address.
The $5 only includes the entrance. It's more if you want access to the Club and VIP parking.

I have a pit ticket as well. I have a long drive and am going to try to get there around 3. It'd be nice if they alerted everyone that parking started then... no idea what we're going to do either.

Hey guys!
I would be more than happy to join a group to hold down some spots at the stage if I can make it in time!
gmalool - thanks for the info about the pit. Sounds like you only need to be there by 4pm when the gates open if you can get a fast lane pass - is that right?? Also, I am in Florence, SC.

Ok, I'm still a bit confused about the Fast Lane pass.
I don't know if I need to get one or not because the whole point of getting one is being able to go through the gates first, right?
Well, I plan to get there right @ 4pm when parking becomes available. So if I'm one of the first in line, doesn't it defeat the purpose? Unless they open another door earlier than 5:30...can someone give me some advice? I'd really like to be upfront :)
Also, is parking free? I read that the parking fee is included in the ticket, but I could have read wrong....thanks

The fast line is a different line that is connected to the VIP Lounge thing. Theres 20X fewer entrants in that line so thats why I bought them. theyre only 5 bucks a piece. But if you plan on getting there early then you should have no problem! Im about to hop in the car to head to raleigh for tonights show. So I will see you guys tommorow night

I saw where the FAST LANE part was answered. I still have not decided what to do. As for parking, it is free. If you buy VIP parking you get to be in a closer lot to the venue. Also, if you carpool w/ 4 or more people, go to the VIP lot and they will let you park adjacent to it.
I don't know whether to fork out the the $10 or not.. so confusing :inquisitive:

Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland of Coldplay perform in Jersey City, N.J. The band will play at Verizon Amphitheatre on Friday.
Band's hard work lands what few others acts have these days: staying power.
There's a lot of gloomy, end-of-times talk in the record business these days about the death of the industry. Fewer and fewer new acts break through every year, and the ones that do never seem to have any staying power.
But that paradigm doesn't apply to Coldplay, which plays Charlotte's Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on Friday. At a time when “gold is the new platinum,” this British quartet still moves tonnage that recalls the industry's glory days. Last year's “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends” (Capitol Records), Coldplay's fourth album, has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide – easily the top-selling album of 2008.
Somehow, Coldplay has emerged as The Last Big Band, combining mainstream popularity with industry respect and widespread (though not unanimous) critical acclaim. Similar to Fleetwood Mac in the '70s, U2 in the '80s or R.E.M. in the '90s, Coldplay has become one of those omnipresent consensus bands whose lyrics get scribbled in yearbooks.
As to why that is, Coldplay's members are just as puzzled as anyone else.
“I know what you mean, there just aren't many bands that tour at our level these days,” says bassist Guy Berryman, calling from a tour stop in Houston. “I don't think we're the last one, but who knows when the next will be? The key to us is that we just work really, really hard. We've constantly written and recorded and toured, visiting places over and over and over. We've just stuck at it and never really stopped the last 10 years. That's it.”
High notes, low ones
Coldplay's perch is so lofty nowadays that potshots are inevitable.
One of the less-welcome salvos to come the band's way was a plagiarism lawsuit filed last December, in which guitarist Joe Satriani claimed that Coldplay stole the riff of the “Viva La Vida” title track from his 2004 composition “If I Could Fly.” The case is still pending.
“Yes, that's something we could do without,” Berryman says of the lawsuit. “But I guess it happens. We just have to deal with it in whatever way it needs to be dealt with. But it's very distressing to us. It was very surprising when it happened.”
Of course, some of Coldplay's detractors might say that charges of plagiarism are only comeuppance. For all the pleasantness of Coldplay's music, it's hardly ground-breaking.
It does, however, fit right between two of Britain's leading contemporary bands as a synthesis of Radiohead and U2 – more accessible than the former, a bit less than the latter – creating a perfect commercial micro-niche in the field of anthemic, majestic arena-rock. Throw in a charismatic frontman in singer/keyboardist Chris Martin (husband of Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow) and the group's well-intentioned political activism, and it's small wonder that Coldplay has prospered.
To his credit, Martin has said of Radiohead, “We owe them a career, really.” And the band certainly tried to stretch a bit on “Viva La Vida” by enlisting producer Brian Eno, one of the primary architects of U2's cathedral-like sonics. While it's not a huge departure, “Viva La Vida” does sound more atmospheric than Coldplay's previous three albums.
“Every producer is slightly different,” Berryman says. “Some are more geared up to the engineering side, with microphone settings and equipment, while others are more into ideas and concepts. That's what Brian is about. He's less interested in fine-tuning sounds than the concept, the songs and rhythms and arrangements and how they all fit together. He was instrumental in making this album sound different from anything else we've done before. ”
Lyrics are all Chris
Another change on “Viva La Vida” is that Martin sings most of the songs in a lower register than his signature falsetto croon. And even though Coldplay has never been the cheeriest bunch, this album might be the group's bleakest yet. Multiple songs make references to death (“Bury me in honor/When I'm dead and hit the ground”), or falling short of a heavenly afterlife (“You didn't get to heaven but you made it close”).
But when asked whether or not Martin's lyrics indicate a growing melancholia, Berryman politely demurs.
“The lyrics are all Chris,” Berryman says. “The rest of us might flag something that doesn't seem quite right. But he's a great lyricist, so we usually just let him get on with it. And we don't analyze things, really. The best lyrics come out naturally without you having to think about them at all, and we'd rather leave interpretations open to others. So we don't get into heavy discussions about what they mean. There's a feeling from the lyrics, and we leave it to everyone else to decide what they might mean.”
