Oh man!! That's a dream for me, to come back so soon. It seems like it wasn't so long ago that they were here!

I'll definitely have to think about going to the Houston show as well. It's going to be warmer too that time of year.

Nothing has been announced yet for ticket prices or anything have they?
Gotta get that presale info too, haha

Good news!!!

I am so excited, although I don't know much about the venue in Dallas to be honest.

Has anyone been there before? I know it is outdoors.

A friend from work and I are going to try to see if we can get tickets to go.

Two times in less than a year...I have to say I will feel really blessed if I get tickets. :D

It's an OK venue. Reserved seats up front in two levels and lawn at the back.

 OMG!!!
Last time they were close to where i live, OK city (11/16/08), I found out too late and my parents didn't give in... :bigcry:

Summer and Coldplay... I'm def. keeping my eye on this one... HOPE I GET TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whooo hoooooo!!!!!

I really don't like the fact that they are swingin' back through shitty-ass Starplex...I hate that place!!!

*sigh*

Oh well, what can you do.

And for those who haven't been there...reserved seats are better. Lawn seats are just OK. The stupid screens they have are so small there's no point in watching it. There's no difference in the size of the people on stage compared to the size of the people on the screen...it's ridiculous. But if you don't care and you just want to chill under the stars and not worry about seeing the band all that well...then get you a lawn seat.

Oh, and for those seating in the reserved section, make sure you bring a pair of ear plugs. They always like to crank it up to level 10 on the stage due to the fact they have small shitty speakers for the lawn area. So instead of them having a nice set of speakers for those in the back, they would rather blast the people who are sitting in the front.

Thanks texaslovejonny and allegra!

I will tell my friend. We are trying for the closest reserved seats.

I hope the show is OK. My fiiend has never seen them, so I am worried it will not be the grand experience I had in OKC.

I am just getting her into Coldplay.

I was kind of surprised about the venue choice as well, adn that they are not hitting either the BOK center here in TUlsa or the Ford Center in OKC again. Two really great venues.

Perhaps they are trying to keep ticket prices down?

You're welcome!

The show should be OK, it's just the sound quality of Starplex isn't as good as anywhere else. Like I said, just be prepared to be blasted the closer you are to the stage. The wall to the left and right side of the stage is a solid wall of speakers. Of course I discovered that the hard way back in 1989. My hearing was never the same since.

And yeah, it looks like this is the cheaper way to go for both the band and the fans. Ticket prices range from $35 to $97. That ain't bad for the front!!! That's why I want to get as close as possible.

Also since it's in the middle of July, wear very light clothing. The place is a sauna until after the sun goes down. And drink lots of water while you're there. Of course most of the guys choose to drink alcohol, and with the Texas heat, it's not a good mix. So be prepared for the drunks too. It gets pretty wild.

Also note that the show will go on rain or shine. That's why lawn sucks as well. You either fry under the sun or get wet from the rain.

Lisa, when I visited ticketmaster.com, the wordage was simply "internet presale" for Friday Feb 13th. Then it mentioned "general sale" on Saturday Feb 14th, so I know what you mean. I was trying to figure this out too.

Usually ticketmaster puts additional wordage, such as "AMEX presale", "Fan club", "Best Buy", etc. I wonder if they are letting everyone participate in the internet presale, and any tickets left would be available at the walk-up windows the next day? I know, it's an odd theory....but we may no know until the morning of. Hmm....

(see "North American pre sales ???" thread)

I sent Ticketmaster a question email form, asking about what type of presale is taking place for these tickets. They should respond soon. In the meantime, they offered a generic response, which is pretty much what we already knew:

Pre-sales and promotions are targeted to specific groups of people, such as fan club members or other defined groups of customers. Pre-sale and promotion access is typically controlled by a password, which is specific to each event and is provided to consumers directly through the promoters of the event or the sponsors of the pre-sale, and not Ticketmaster.

All available information regarding pre-sale access and/or promotion codes/passwords is posted on the ticket ordering page of our website for each specific event. Ticketmaster Customer Service Representatives cannot provide passwords, and it is important to point out that your Ticketmaster My Account password is not valid for pre-sale access.

Hopefully they'll respond with more concrete information.....

I finally saw the thread on the Ticket Rush pre-sale.
I have been a member of Ticket Rush for awhile now.
They normally send out their weekly emails on Tuesdays, so I will see if they have a password for Coldplay in Dallas.
I was just confused by the "verbage" on the ticketmaster site.

Ticketmaster is WAY TOO confusing
Last time I checked, TM only has 4 concerts listed, and only the San Diego one clearly says "TICKET RUSH pre sale"

Please post whatever info you get on the pre-sale process on the "North American presale ???" thread.

This was really lame today. One more generic try tomorrow with the regular sale. LN had a bunch of lawn stuff and I never had a try at any actual seats there.

You are right, there are no rows/seats on the lawn, it is literally a lawn!

I got two seats in Section 201, near the front of the section, but I'm still NOT happy about it. I got MUCH better seats to The Police show there. They never offered anything in the 100's. I got mine from TM, using the Live Nation Ticket Rush presale code.

I get so sick of this, that the actual fans get screwed out of good seats. I got decent seats to both Police shows last year and to Coldplay's show in November, but this sucked in the highest of order.

I'm going to try again tomorrow for 100's and if I don't get them, I'm going to be even more pissed off.

well, someone has to be able to get seats in the 100's.
This thing is ridiculous though. I mean, corporations or ticket scalpers aren't paying TM more than face value, so they are making the same amount of money regardless. I really wish they'd come up with a better way to police ticket sales. And, I agree there should be a fan club that TM could release better seats too. I get the corporate thing, and I know it's not going away, but geez, TM can release SOME decent seats for presales where you know TRUE fans will be getting tickets. UGH, I just get so disgusted every time I try to buy tickets. I actually miss the old days of buying your tickets in person and even the camping out part!!

No shit Sherlock, this is how it happens with the ticket agencies. They are allowed to buy them at face, buy several sections then sell them at an elevated price. Its called TICKET SCALPING folks, and in most states (Louisiana for sure) it's ILLEGAL.
So, when are you gonna report them? Do you really think TM got those good seat tickets by standing in line, even a presale line, like you did?
FUCK NO they didnt. its all about money, for them.
You are a loyal fan. Coldplay management does not give a shit about you . They care about your money, only.Period.
With the COLDPLAY tour grossing nearly US $90 million last year, you have to ask just how much $$ is enough?

Technicolour TX

I posted something similar in the North American Presale thread.

Ticketmaster sponsors a lot of these scalper sites. Of course, they don't use the word "Scalping", as they predetermine a cost and "management fees" for the sites are rolled in.

Ticketmaster realized everyone was buying up front row seats and scalping them ages ago for every concert available, so they figured they'd cash in on it. So instead of putting the face value of a front row seat at $800 for concets, they put the face value at $95 instead, and simply "sell" those seats at that price to the scalper sites. Or they call it a one-price "auction" to get around the scalping laws.

So, the sites in turn charge $800 for those premium seats, and the rich folks who can afford things like that simply plonk down the cash and the ticket is theirs. And Ticketmaster gets the revenue because they sponsor the sites. And chances are they'll sell all of those $800 seats. Of course, that's a conservative estimate, I've seen some front row individual seats for shows (The Police, Springsteen, Coldplay, Genesis) go for $2000.

Supply and demand, my friends.

But the fans with minimal cash (like me) get screwed. I hate how the world works sometimes.

localola86
13-02-2009, 07:22 PM
^^^At least in Louisiana the law says it's illegal. That scalping shit is LEGAL in Florida. Gosh, I'm so pissed right now. The FL concert presale and sale are gonna suck for all the true fans here that want to get good seats.

^Your explanation is true, Technicolour. TM has set up its own scalpers after getting fooled by others. TM went "WTF? We can set up our own, and get the profit"

I know alot of people are disappointed with the available selection of seats during the pre-sale, but it's pretty much common knowledge that concert pre-sales NEVER have prime tickets available. In fact, I pretty much knew that would be the situation, and I didn't even bother to log in and try...and sure enough, this case proved itself once again. No need to get upset over something that was never meant to be. Last night on the phone, a friend of mine was all geared up for the pre-sale. I told him that he had no chance of getting any seats in the 100's, and when he called me this morning to confirm what we already knew, I said "Told You So!" in my best Dave Gahan voice.

13-02-2009, 09:10 PM
I think all of us got pretty much screwed with these sales. Pre-sales and general sales alike. On Paul McCartney's forum, if you've been a member for so many months, they send out pre-sale passwords that are each different to the members only to use, and you can get excellent seats with these. I actually called the venue I was trying to get tickets to for Coldplay and asked them how the front sections sold out in 10 seconds, and their reply was blah blah there was so many people online/calling. Whatever.

I honestly did not expect there to not be any tickets in the 100's for this concert. I've been going to concerts at the Venue (always be Starplex to me) for a long time and anytime I've gotten tickets in a pre-sale, there have always been tickets in the 100's available. I'm not a "have to sit in the first 10 rows" kind of gal, but I am a "have to sit in the first section" kind. I got excellent seats to see The Police last year and have scored great pre-sale seats for Sting and Depeche Mode in the past. I also got pretty good seats at the AAC for Coldplay in Nov in a pre-sale. So, I was pretty shocked there were none available at all in the first section.

I am very frustrated. I got section 204 row CCC, which is not good in the first place. I tried again for fun and 201 row JJ (much closer and to the center) showed up.

Very dissapointed.

And, I'm not a newbie to conerts in general, nor this location. I haven't seen anything like and I've probably been to well over 20 concerts at this venue. Very disappointing.

I understand that, but they have never done this before. There have always been tickets available in the 100's, granted they were always middle to back or the sides, but I've never seen it to where none were available in the presale or general. They usually make at least SOME available.

It's a pretty sad state of affairs when Tickemaster's own scalping site is selling tickets in the 100-sections for $700 *BEFORE* the actual onsale. This should be illegal in so many ways. This wouldn't fly in any other industry, but somehow when it comes to concert tickets, everyone turns a blind eye.

I thought it was highly ironic that while trying to get tickets, the first security code that the TM site gave me to enter included the word "CROOKS". Ya think?

Even for the SuperBowl, the NFL and the promoters had to lower the price of the cheapest ticket from $800 to $500. AND they themselves said it was because of ticket sales being lower than expected, which we know is due to the economic situation.

Guess what? My brother got in because he worker as a security/guest services staff. So he got to see most of the game for free! Well, he was sore the next day from his 16-hour long shift, yet he didn't shell out $$$$ to be there

Crooks indeed !

Some Ticketmaster sites already have tix for the Houston show (which doesn't go on sale until next week). And these "$25 convenience fees"....what a bunch of garbage.

Pearl Jam tried to bring these guys down in the 90's and failed, but they opened a lot of eyes to corruption and bad practices in the ticket / entertainment industry. It would be great if some of the mega bands like Coldplay, The Killers, U2, etc could all say something, but the record labels and the RIAA are all in business with Ticketmaster, so they might consider it biting the hand that feeds them.

Techni-TX you are exactly right. The disappointing thing is that the band and management have no incentive to fix the problem because they are getting someone's money for the ticket anyways. They don't care whether it's you, me, or Texas Tickets. Secondly, the larger problem is that the 'authorities' who would have any incentive or reason to try and curb the problem are the same people who are most likely taking kickbacks under the table. All the while, the fat get fatter and it leaves us as fans congregating on the lawn in Texas in mid-July, while the corprate suits are in the front row getting sweat upon by Chris during Politik.

Yeah it's absurd. I was at home, ready with my ticketrush presale password and everything, and the second it hit 10 AM I refreshed the page, pick 2 tickets choose, livenation, type in the password, and search; mind you this only takes like no more than 30 seconds. If I had actually been timing myself, I doubt it was over 20. And I get 204 AAA. WTF?! I bought them, 'cause I really want to go, so even if it's not a great seat I'm sure I'll have a great time. I went in November, and my seat was okay, but just being there was awesome. Anyway, as a joke, this morning I tried getting tickets in the general sale thingie, and again right at 10AM, the best I could get? LAWN.

Ticketmaster does not hold on to better seats and release them through a sale. TM are not allowed to do this for various contractual reasons, like I say I've worked with TM and TM is not allowed to do this.
The only occassion I have ever noticed something like this happening is when the system fails to include blocks of tickets due to human error. It is very rare and I can only guess that there aren't any 100 block tickets for sale or a glitch has occurred-I think it is the former because the same thing is across all dates. So I suspect auctions or premium seat packages-where you pay $300 for a seat and they give you a tour program or laminate.

This is awful you guys! I just read some of the posts on here because someone on the Houston thread said to check out what happened in Dallas, and I cannot believe this. I mean, I knew that there was going to be a lot of this scalping business going on, but I didn't know Ticketmaster was actually behind all of it. Jackasses. Makes me wonder...who the hell pays $600 for one ticket? I mean, if I had the money, I can't honestly say I WOULDN'T even though it's outrageous...but come on! Are there that many filthy rich Coldplay fans?

This whole business disgusts me. And prompted me to google "coldplay concert tickets houston" and come up with like 10000 websites selling the good seats already. I'm so freaking disappointed. What the hell??!!

I live in Oklahoma and have not been to the Superpages center. I have section 203 eee seats 13 & 14. I have been trying to figure out if I am going to be able to see anything or not. Some things have said that if you are short you won't be able to see. I have tried to find views on youtube, but I just can't figure it out. If these are not good seats and Chris is going to look like an ant then I want to buy different tickets. I have found some section 100 tickets for like $175, but the caption says it may be a partially obstructed view. I just don't know!

Allegra
25-02-2009, 07:12 AM
Well...I'm not surprised at all that this happened. I had a very strong feeling this would happen. I already went through this with the George Michael tour. His pre-sale pretty much went the same way for the cheaper tickets. Otherwise if you wanted to sit up close, you had to choose a package.

Anyway, I'm a huge U2 fan and for their last two tours they have mostly avoided these problems. How? GA on the floor is the answer. And too GA's were only $50. But there were still a few problems with pre-sale codes. Ticketbastard sets aside a block of tickets for the pre-sale and not the whole arena/venue. So for U2's last tour, you might have gotten GA during pre-sale, if not, there was a chance during the general sale to get a GA too.

As far as this show is concerned, it looks like I lucked out. I'm in section 202 row DD, right behind the VIP section. I got them through Live Nation at around 11am. After getting that ticket I tried for better locations, but got nothing. I went over to Ticketbastard and couldn't get any better there. I wasn't surprised either that I wasn't getting any 100 section seats. After visiting a scalping site, I found a ton of 100 sections at vastly different amounts, but nothing cheaper than $250 and it went up fast from there.

Now I did notice that the closest row I saw they had available was around row J. I assume the band has reserved the first 5-10 rows to pass out to people in the back like they did during the arena tour. So remember, that's Coldplay's way of getting back at Ticketbastard/Live Nation, and no front row auctions. If the band hasn't already reserved those front rows, well there just simply won't be any true fans up front.

Probably because they weren't originally planning on having a PIT at the venue and then decided to after the tickets had already gone on sale. I and several others on the board can confirm that when the tickets originally went on sale (pre-sale and general sale), PIT tickets were not listed on Ticketmaster.

Hey guys! I'm going to the Houston concert, and I've got spare tickets to sell or trade for Dallas! I've got three for section 111, row C, and I'll sell 'em for what I paid, $325 with all fees. Willing to sell a pair or singles or whatever. And if you've got Dallas tickets, all the better! Just message me. :)

Does anyone need tickets for Dallas? I have 4 extra tickets I can't use. They are in section 204, row SS. I'm willing to sell them for less than face value and fees - for around $115 each.

One More Month!!
:D

Yes indeed !! :D

Saw them in San Antonio a couple of weeks back and in Dallas on the first leg of the tour. I've never seen a band so frequently in such a short period of time. I love it !!

But I hope Chris and the boys are prepared to sweat like mad....an outdoor theater in Dallas in the middle of July! ouch! I wonder why American Airlines arena wasn't available?

No matter. We'll be singing and dancing like crazy!

As the show comes closer, are there plans for any meet-ups before the show?

Ya know what sucks, guys? I was planning on getting tickets pretty soon (I never got the chance to get the tickets earlier...:() and now it looks as if I can't even go.

If I can't, I'll be really sad, because I've never been to a Coldplay concert before. But, hey, if not this year, there is always next year!

Just pray that I can go. I'd really appreciate it. :)

Well that was a Sept. show. Not sure anyone will want to brave the Texas heat for that long in July. There is no shade what so ever at this venue and no outside toilets. Neighborhood is not exactly the kind of place you want to seek out public restrooms if you get my point. So keep that in mind.

BTW, looks like Dallas is 'sold out' too since no tickets are available on Ticketmaster like the Houston show :)

Yep, the sound is awful because the people that run the place like to have the speakers turned up at level 11. So if you're in the left or right front sections, I'm warning you now, bring earplugs because you will get blasted by the wall of speakers. The stupid place has these tiny worthless speakers in the back so what they do in order for the lawn people to hear, they crank up the speakers in the front. Stupid...yes. It's like being on the floor of a stadium show.

As far as the slope is concerned, there is a slight slope, but it's no stadium seating by any means. It's more like auditorium seating. It's very similar to Nokia out in Grand Prairie, minus the upper deck of course.

You'll definitely be blasted by the "wall 'o speakers" then.

Yep, way back in 1989 when I saw my first show at Starplex, I sat in the second row on the right side, and my right ear has never been the same since.

You'd think by now they would have done something to re-design it. It's not like they don't have the revenue to do it. They haven't updated a thing since my first show in 1991 at Lollapalooza.........and, I have been to my fair share of shows there since.

I am interested to see how Chris reacts to it. He is so energetic that he is always pouring sweat, even in the indoors in winter here. And, I have never seen a catwalk at Starplex (it will always be Starplex to me), so I wonder how his stage presence will be. Also, I wonder if they will do their little remote stage. It will be interesting. I can't wait!! I can't believe it's in 20 days~~swoon~~!!!

Allegra
01-07-2009, 10:08 PM
Yeah, a catwalk, a B-stage, a C-stage is something totally foreign for Starplex.

I'm not sure if they will be able to handle it. They will have to hire extra ushers/bouncers. They won't be at their usual station. Oh My! (Note the sarcasm.)

If they pull it off, it will be shocking because no other artist that I know of has ever done that there.

My thoughts exactly!
Security at The Police show was a joke! Granted, I understan it was The Police, not a really out of control crowd. I watched the "security" guards around me check people out and try to hit on people. Nice!

I'm sure the show will be good, but I'm really curious to see how Chris handles this venue.

do either of you Starplex veterans know what the pit situation is like there??

mrman78
01-07-2009, 11:19 PM
They'll have the B-Stage and C-Stage... and they will have those little 'nubs' where the catwalks were in the Arena shows. I'm guessing the B-Stage will be on the right between 100 and 200 sections, and the C-Stage will be on the left between 200 and the lawn...

I'm also kind of curious of the PIT - mostly how BIG it is. My ticket has 348 as the seat, so I'm guessing that means at least 348 in the PIT? That sounds like a lot... Maybe the max was 500? I'm keeping to the back of the PIT though. I don't want to have to wait all day in the heat or not be able to leave or be really hot the whole time due to body heat.

I'm with Allegra, I've never seen it done at Starplex either. Back in the early '90s when Lollapalooza traveled there were people who TRIED to create a pit down there, but if I remember correctly there were fences and a lot of security. I stayed back though, b/c people would get seriously hurt.

hey, I don't think this question will ever be noticed on the thread I posted on earlier, so I thought I'd ask it here.

in this (http://coldplaying.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=6397) article, it says that Coldplay kicked off the LRLRL CD giveaway in Florida and that they're ending it this Saturday at the Gorge Amphitheatre. Do you think they're mistaken? I thought they were giving them out until the end of the tour!! I really wanted one. :(

jenflor

I think the article is referring to the tour "kicking off in May and stopping at the Gorge..", not the CD giveaway. Also everyone, it's very very important that you park inside the fair grounds. DO NOT park across the street on people's lawn or around the neighborhood away from the fair ground property. Starplex/Fair Park is not exactly on the good side of town if you know what I mean. So be careful!

Apparently this is the first time anyone has done a PIT at this venue, so no one really knows! As far as how early to get there, it depends on where you want to be in the PIT. Personally, I'm not getting there until later and plan to be at the back of the PIT. It's just too hot this time of year to be in the heat waiting and then squashed against a railing.

Yeah, that was when they cancelled the Houston show at the Woodlands Pavilion due to Rita. It was good for me though, since I didn't get tickets and had just got back from Summer back home and then they moved it to the following February at Toyota Center :)

For all the PIT questions, just a comment from me.

I recently went to warped tour at starplex and the pit is quite larger than you would expect when youve normally just seen the seats put down on the floor.

On a side note, ive read that some other venues put down seats and give you a seat assignment when you get to the venue. I dont necessarily want front row. because i would much happier 10 people back center than close up past the left catwalk. cant get the full experience IMO.

haahahah no you cannot bring beer, and technically nothing but 1 lawn chair or blanket. but heres the loophole, they cannot touch anything in your bag when they check it. just open and look. so what i do is wrap water/food in a towel, put it in the bag. im sure you could do beer, but im sure the penalty would be bigger for bringing alcohol compared to just throwing away any water/food they find in your bag.

Okay everyone !!!! It's almost time !!!!

This tour has been amazing. I saw them in Dallas late last year, then in San Antonio last month. This tour has been a soundtrack of sorts for my life this past year. Went through a divorce, had lots of life changes take place, and seemed to walk through fire at times. Funny how much of it started on the heels of the tour, and I managed to get through it alive, now that the tour is ending.

With all of the wild events of my life taking place the past year, Coldplay's music has become even more important to me, and "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" is an album that will always be close to my heart for those reasons. I'm sad to say "farewell", but Coldplay has given me memories to last a lifetime on this tour (with 3 awesome shows I will have attended in person) and I can't wait for the next album to come out, with another tour. I just hope the poor lads aren't worn out by then, they must be exhausted ! this has to be one of the longest tours in recent rock / pop memory....but they love the fans, and that's why we love them.

Thank you Coldplay for giving us such great memories.

I can't believe it's tomorrow!! Forecast so far is 50% chance of scattered thunderstorms (BOO!!!) and 87 degrees (YAY!!!) Plus it IS raining up there currently, so the lawn is probably going to be soggy...

Oh, I just checked Ticketmaster, and they released some more PIT and lower reserved seating... I really hope the PIT is not ginormous.

At Dave Matthews, the problem was the puddles. I imagine that again will be the problem. Big mud puddles. I would wear sandals. And bring another set of clothes and leave in the car afterwards to change. The traffic will be bad getting out and no since in sittting in wet clothes.

Pit is standing room only, no seats, so you can't be split up.
