Well, now that I'm less shocked, I'm very excited in spite of this being something you wouldn't think they'd do such a type of announcement for. I've been to the Home Depot Center in Carson a few times (most recently to see - believe it or not - Sarah Palin), but never for a concert, so I can't tell if it will be a good venue. It has a tennis court, soccer stadium, and track facility, and I'm predicting the soccer stadium will be used.

But holy shit, I need to round up my buddies and inform them...when they're awake.
Actually...scratch that. They deserve to be woken up for this. :D

the venues aren't THAT small, these are average-size venues. i've seen them (and almost all of my other artists) at these size venues, and it's not that hard to get tickets, or not as hard as you might think. no presale, i bet. you just have to have a plan of attack.

interesting, i didn't expect a presale. and yeah, for what you're used to, zoe, they may be small, but for most bands, they're pretty average-sized places, these pavillions. they're small for what coldplay has become :D. i saw radiohead at the comcast center, and it's really nice up there. you can get some REALLY crappy seats in that place, though.

i have to decide whether or not to go. i'll give you pointers, if you want, though i'm good at getting TICKETS; angie's good at getting GOOD tickets :nice:

You know, while another set of UK dates would not surprise me at all, something else that wouldn't surprise me is possibly a couple more U.S. shows being announced last-minute. It's happened before, so somebody here may get lucky. :)

But I'm not gonna let this thread's depression get me down today. 2009 - new material or not - is gonna be just as awesome as 2008 for Coldplay.

damnit they left NY region....:cry:No NJ,Philly,NY...

They sort of did. There is a show in Mansfield, Massachussets of all places.

I'm like 3 hours from there according to google maps. This is potentially cool but not too cool because I honestly don't know if I'm gonna be able to get there.

I've never seen Coldplay play, but I would love if this could happen.

I think that will be all the dates in North America, they've got too busy of a year.
Do you guys think they'll tour in 2010 to promote the next album? Cause Chris said after the next album they'll just dissapear and touring for three straight packed years is REALLY daunting!

i think it's a bit unfair for most americans to be saying that they should broaden the tour to come to places closer to them, especially when they've covered this continent twice over so far and especially when most people saying these things have seen them at least once this year. i feel like between the three tours, they've covered us damn well, while other continents and countries, not at all. they hit chicago their last time here, and ohio too. it's someone elses' turn now, specifically south america and asia.

Mimixxx
06-02-2009, 07:50 PM
I agree Chelsea. They hit New Jersey and Philly twice last year too.

People in Asia, South America, vast parts of Europe haven't had them come anywhere near at all yet.

Lore
06-02-2009, 07:51 PM
I agree with chelsea... you know what, when they came to chile, some people traveled from another places of the country, some people even spent more than 10 hours in a bus just to see them. I know USA is a big big country but it's not like they've only been in just one city there

Lore
06-02-2009, 07:55 PM
if they decide to come, they will only play in one city in chile and argentina... but that's normal and happens with every band, but you know what sucks? the famous bands never go to perú or Bolivia or Colombia... the fans from those countries always have to spend a lot of money to see them

DISSAPOINTING!!
FIRST, USA AND CANADA ARE NOT THE WHOLE WORLD, THEY SHOULD HAVE SAID BIG NEWS FOR USA CITIZENS, BECAUSE FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD THIS NEWS ARE USELESS, BESIDES, WHY GOING AGAIN TO USA AND CANDA?
WHEN YOU HAVE MEXICO, CHILE, BRAZIL, ARGENTINA, COLOMBIA,PERU ETC. COUNTRIES THAT MAY NOT HAVE THE ECONOMICAL POWER OF USA AND CANADA BUT STILL HAVE A LOT OF FANS AND THE MONEY ENOUGH TO BUY THEIR TICKETS, I WAS EXPECTING NEW SONGS, NEW TOUR DATES AROUND THE WORLD, A NEW ALBUM OR THE FORMULA TO LIVE FOR EVER OR TRANSFORM EVERYTHING TO WATER BUT NOT, JUST ANOTHER USA AND CANADA TOUR.
DISSAPOINTING!

exactly. the US and the UK are some of the only countries where coldplay (and most bands) play more than one location, more than just the capital city or the biggest city. i've driven/travelled up to 5 hours for coldplay so far (and in september, i'll do significantly more than that), but people just need to keep in mind how lucky we are with coldplay in america, and to put yourself in the shoes of someone from south america or asia and think how you'd feel if they bypassed your country altogether. it's not that we americans shouldn't be happy, it's that we should realize how lucky we are and not be greedy.

You're gonna make me cry Chels

And you're lucky to live in the capital, Lore!!! :nice:
If they ever decide to come to Mexico it'll probably be only to Mexico city (As they've done previously) and my choices would be to bare with 20 hours on a bus, or save enough money for flights there...... both options i'm willing to do, i just want them to get to central and south america and the neglected part of north america (yes, mexico is north america as well kiddies)!!!!!!! :bigcry:

well I was hoping that the news would be something else.. but either way.. I'm happy and just because they announced North America tour does not mean that they won't be traveling other parts of the World. Sometimes it's the booking and where they are going to be for the month.

Don't most bands just do about 3 days in other countries?

I was supposed to go when they came to Denver on Nov. 21st, but the guy that had my ticket backed out on me last minute and seriously made me cry.

Awww I'm so sad :( I can't believe I couldn't sleep yesterday nor focus on anything during my whole day thinking about this announcement. Now I come home and see this... that's just...a big disappointment. I know all my dreams came from my mind, but I really don't think it was fair to tease us like they did... The same way I don't think the other announcement was fair either. There's a large ammount of fans outside North America that now will dye of anticipation in the next weekend and most of them will be frustrated next Monday. That's not good at all. The pleased ones will be extremely happy with or without 'big announcements teasers'. The not gifted ones would be less frustrated without this kind of situation, though. The Coldplay team has been amazing to us fans and I do believe they were not willing to cause any harm. But maybe they don't understand this feeling we have, the one that makes some lines ruin your day, your week, your month. I'm sorry for the big post. I'm deeply sad. :(

I just can't believe that this worked out again! Last summer I was in the UK for all of July, and they rescheduled the concert for the night I got home, 8/3, and I just barely made it. Now I'm going back to the UK for all of this coming July, and this time they're playing 1 day after I get home, 8/3 (again :P).

The whole thing about Coldplay announcing more North American dates being a "huge dissapointment" kinda upsets me. We get a couple of weeks this year, while they LIVE in the U.K. they have done COUNTLESS things over there, we don't even have the Life in Technicolor EP OR video yet! you guys get ALL of their music to buy, while we hardly get any. And what about all the radio spots and little acoustic things they've done over the years in the U.K. Sorry they're coming to America, should we tell them not to and tell them next time to say "unfortunately, we have to play some dates in America. Very dissapointing I know."

Prospekt.

I think most people (or at least i know that was my case) were dissapointed with this because it was announced as big news, and we all assumed that it would be great news for all fans in general, not just the ones in two specific countries.

And they do little radio shows in the UK and sort of give them special treatment when it comes to singles and stuff, but why shouldn't they??
That's their home, and they deserve the special treatment.

My point here is that a lot of us would love for them to start touring countries were they haven't been with the VLV tour, just to even things out with the rest of the fans ;)

at least you guys got a couple of weeks. Here we have to actually pray so the Tour Manager remember us (Latin America fans). I hope this Monday Peru is announced, there's maybe 10 or 15 % of posibilities. Argentina, Brazil and Chile are always considered when any big band come this region.

The huge disappointment came from the high expectations created by the announcement, as Pris said above. According to your point of view, what about the countries who haven't got any single date during VLV tour or any Coldplay tour at all?

I'm saying this from the UK perspective.... they really havn't done 'COUNTLESS' things as you put it in the last year, not much compared to the US dates (which will be 3 rounds now)....plus they left us til very last, last year.
We had the free Brixton gig which was hard for any fan from here to get a ticket to, and the small BBC gig.....then the tour in December.

I feel very sorry for the places in Latin America, and also Portugal, Finland..... and others.
Hope you guys get some much deserved tour dates announced very soon! :\

Very dissapointing I know."Erm no, thats not what they should say. But building it up as a "big" announcement when the majority of fans live OUTSIDE the US, thats what shouldn't have been done. Also - the band not playing in countries / places that havn't had a single tour date for over 2 years, while they go back to the US for the THIRD time in a year... how can this NOT be a disappointment for fans living elsewhere? I think people are perfectly entitled to be - at the very least - just a bit let down by the announcement, and i don't see how that could possibly be upsetting. And you say they've done countless things in the UK... and they havn't in the US? By the end of august this year, they would have played 51 shows in the US, excluding free shows. Compare that to 20 shows in the UK come September? And we had to wait 6 MONTHS after the album came out for the guys to tour here. I don't think there's much reason to envy us over here, and I also don't see how these "radio spots" and "little acoustic things" have any bearing in this case, since a bunch of dedicated fans on this site ALWAYS try to record and upload every single coldplay radio appearence so that everyone can listen, where ever it is broadcast, here or there. So fact that they LIVE here doesn't exactly make much difference at all in fact, at least not anymore. Trust me, we don't exactly get special treatment here.

And this isn't really about the UK or europe anyway. Hell, us brits shouldn't even be complaining that much with the stadium shows coming up. Its about places like South America that havn't had a single tour date announced, when the band could have easily made time to tour there instead of the US in July and August. This is why there is so much disappointment, and why you should realise how fortunate you are to have them play so often in your country. If you're not satisfied, move here next time they decide to tour, so you can wait 6 months to see them. Or even better, go to South America and don't see them at all.

Oh and about the Life In Technicolor EP, I guess that's understandable. But maybe you can import it, right? And I don't see what the big deal is about the video... you can download the HD version from youtube by following THIS

Well first off I would just like to say, that announcing ANY tour dates I consider to be a big news. If they had announced more Europe dates, would people have come here and posted stuff like thist? Oh wait, they did announce more Europe dates. A whole summer stadium/festival tour. Funny I don't recall any moaning about how other countries where getting fucked over when those dates where announced. I seem to recall we where all quite excited for you and thought it was pretty sweet. If they are planning on announcing South American dates on Monday, I wish they would have just waited and announced all the dates together, would have caused less American hating. But they did the same thing with the European shows. They announced the UK first, then the rest of the Europe shows. Didn't hear any weeping for France when they did that, or South America either.
As far as us having 3 chances to see them, the US is a big place. Not everyone is as crazy as me, so traveling around isn't exactly an option for a lot of people. Of the new dates announced, By that logic, people in the UK should have traveled to other parts of Europe and seen them when they played there.

Oh and I counted 35 US/Canada shows and 39 shows for Europe and 2 for Japan so far on this tour. That does not include any of the free shows. Yes that's right, Europe has had more shows than North America.

No, I understand all that, but I'm saying that they're obviously going to a lot more places that just haven't been announced yet, but they're probably not going anywhere else in North America. So I don't think people can freak out about what they don't know yet (ie the venues left to be announced in 09), whereas North Americans probably can start saying "oh, they're not coming here" because this is probably it in North America. I'm just saying that we have no idea what non-American dates are coming up, but we do know that they're coming, so people shouldn't jump to conclusions yet.

And not everyone can "just take a bus/plane", I know I wouldn't be able to if they weren't playing near me.

I know it sucks, but we still don't have the whole picture. And if America is giving them the most money, obviously their tour managers have to send them there, no matter where the band wants to go. It's just a fact of life, and I don't think anyone involved enjoys it, but that's the entertainment business.

I think in Europe's defence we're not made up of states, we're made up of countries, so it's a lot more expensive to fly around. Also the whole continent (some of which has been left out, Portugal, Finland for example) is bigger than the USA as a COUNTRY!

I think perhaps people are finding it hard to see past the side that they're on. Some people are disappointed, some people are happy. I think maybe we should all try and see it from both sides, stop getting at each other and just hope those who haven't been able to see them at all yet, do get to see them by the end of the year. :)

I agree that they should not have said that this was a big announcement because it really wasn't a big announcement. With that being said, who's to say that Coldplay won't go to Latin America or do more dates in Asia? They could annouce that they are heading to those places next week. Who's to know?

In all honesty, what Coldplay is doing is basically what other top artists do....they tend to do more shows in Europe and the US/Canada. Yeah, other artists do perform in Asia, Latin America, Australia/New Zealand, but they spend more time in Europe and the US/Canada. Why is that? Could it be the cost of putting on a show? I don't know but maybe it's cheaper to put on a show in these places than in other places. It could also be about the amount of money the band can make. If a promoter is willing to fork over the money for an artist, well, the artist will more likely take it. As since they are doing stadiums, well, could they also be looking at the infrastructure? Are there stadiums that can meet their needs? I'm not saying that these countries don't, I am just pointing out what they might be thinking when they are deciding on where they should go.

I don't think this is a American -vs- the rest of the world issue when it comes to this. In reality, it's a business issue and artists do what the business dictates.

I meant USA the country versus the whole of Europe :PWe all know how the UK hates to admit they a part of Europe. Refusing to use the Euros and what not. Go on say it Mich. I am part of the EU and I am proud of it. :P

The USA is not a continent Mich :laugh3:. North America is though and Canada is rather large, so that kinda boost the size up. :P

So I did some counting. Excluding all the free shows/radio shows/TV stuff
dates played/ dates scheduled / total dates

Japan 2 / 4 / 6
North America 35 / 14 / 49
Europe 39 / 21 / 60
Oz/NZ 0 / 13 / 13

So can every stop with all the "why don't they just move to America" BS now. :dozey:

I'm positive Mich knows that the US is not a continent.

Hehe, am stoopid but not that stoopid. :dunce:

And Great Britton, of course :D

i have to say that this thread embarrasses me a bit. i think that we americans have a right to be happy and that the people in the ignored countries have a right to be quite disappointed (but also a bit hopeful for monday ). i do not, however, think that we americans have any right to complain nor feel offended by any "america hating" going on. don't you think these people have a right to be upset? the tweets got everyone all worked up, thinking that this might be something EVERYONE could enjoy, and then they find out that they don't get anything out of it, nothing. they're not angry at us or our country, they're angry at the management and the way that this was hyped up to EVERYONE. however, if people that have seen them before on this tour (or even had past tour dates in their area that they may or may not have been able to go to) keep talking and whining like they are, i think they ARE going start "america hating." the tour being in america specifically isn't the issue in my eyes--if they were visiting the UK or anywhere else for the third time on a big tour leg while ignoring other very large and loyal continents, people would be similarly angry after hyping it up like they did. i don't think these coldplayers are angry about it being in AMERICA, they're angry about it being anywhere for the third time.

i'm american, and i'm gettng frustrated with the americans that are whining about them not being close enough to them, even though several of those people have seen them at least once this year judging by their signatures. it embarrasses me, frankly. of course, there are those americans that haven't seen them at all this year either, but put yourself in the shoes of a person from a country that hasn't seen coldplay at all this year and think about how much WORSE that must feel.

the biggest mistake in all this was hyping it up through twitter without being specific to area. if this had been announced without fanfare, i have a feeling that the reactions would be slightly less strong, although still disappointed. i think a lot of this is because the spirits soared so high for one night, then crashed. let them be disappointed, and realize how lucky we are.

and everyone should be hopeful for monday :D. i have a good feeling about south america

EDIT: sorry to bring up all the heavy stuff again when it had gotten all lighthearted for a while :P. but that took me a while to type, and when i started, the heavy stuff was still going on
