View Full Version : Will you watch the Grammys this year?

The Grammys are one of those shows/events I have not watched in a couple years mainly because every attempt I've made to watch it have resulted in frustration. The best artists don't actually win, the performances are borderline annoying, and the acts are usually predictable. Mainstream hip hop and other music that makes me want to cry.

But maybe things will be different this year? First of all Radiohead is playing. That has raised my curiousty. Also today they announced that U2 will be performing as well joining artists like Coldplay, Kayne West, and Carrie Underwood.

I dunno. They haven't aired it live earlier so i don't think they'll do it this year either.
I think i'll watch it when they'll air it later though..

I'm still undecided. I'm starting to lean towards yes.

oh hellz yeah I am with radiohead and U2 performing I am there for those two reasons alone. I truly hope that Radiohead walks away with at least one out of three grammys. Not that it really matters to them I just think it would be cool..

I've only watched them once or twice before, and when I have I haven't really paid attention... but I think I definitely will this year, mainly because of all the reasons you mentioned, Briggins.

Hell yeah, I am watching them! This is the best talent I can ever remember. U2, Coldplay, Radiohead, Robert Plant, Dave Grohl, and Paul McCartney. This is a no brainer.

its mandatory for music fans to watch the grammys. but only music nerds watch the pre show webcast where they hand out 90 of the 100+ awards. :) i've watched the webcast the last 3yrs and its more intereting than you would think.

only two of radioheads 5 nominations will be announced on the night. the other 3 will be handed out in the pre show webcast. it starts approx 4hrs before the actual broadcast

Im excited to see this years show. I havent felt like Ive really wanted to watch the Grammy's in a while. My 2 favs are playing Coldplay will surely win some as well. U2 is always good to see and the Radiohead appearance almost blows my mind. It will be fun to watch, I think.

sorry to go off topic a bit for a moment. i was just thinking earlier about the nominations for best new artist. they are an absolute disgrace (even by grammys standards). how can they look over MGMT and Vampire Weekend both groups made brilliant debut albums. i guess fleet foxes didnt receive much prominance until later in the year but still anyone who calls themselves a music expert and cant deny the brilliance of their album. and what about Santogold!! with her incredible ability to combine every genre under the sun effortlessly. who do we get instead??!!?! duffy adele and jonas brothers (the other 2 i dont know so i'll leave them alone) adele i dont mind but she is nothing next to laura marling. i just cant believe that such a great year in music will be remembered by acts like duffy and jonas brothers.

A big fat No.

Award shows are not my cup of tea.

I'm an awards show junkie, so I'll definately watch it, but as we don't get it live, I'll probably skip loads.

I have to say, I've never loved the Grammys. I think they try too hard to please everyone and it's too long.

Who will Alicia Keys be duetting with this year? She's a great singer, but does she have to be on every year? Same with John Mayer.

The Grammys show is very predictable. It needs to get a bit more edgy... oh, and please, no Grammy Idol this year!

Hopefully Radiohead does something edgy, unpredictable, and exciting.

This is the first time I really want to watch... what a lineup! All my favorites in one show!
McCartney, U2, Grohl, CP and RH... Man, this will be the best in years. :D

Ugh. No. A fine display of musicians I don't care about.

And the odd few I do like, I'll just watch the videos on Youtube or wherever.

The Grammys aren't actually about talent.

If Radiohead and Coldplay are performing, I'll watch

Though Coldplay tends to suck at award show performances, I'm sure Radiohead will have something worth watching.

I'm going to watch, or at least record it. They seem to be trying to not suck this year. But if even with that lineup and attitude they still end up sucking completely, I doubt I'll ever purposefully watch again. What's the point? As I usually say, it's an ode to irrelevance.

One thing which is a complete joke is the new artists they nominate. I mean last year Feist was nominated for that! Feist! It was her THIRD album!

I don't think I've ever watched them, at least not actually paying attention

Me neither, although Coldplay was never nominated when I was a fan, and they didn't previously have performances of my three favorite bands of all-time.

i think it should be made very very clear that the actual Grammys broadcast has little to do with whose nominated and who wins. and the grammy organisers realise that which is why less than 10 awards are handed out in the 3.5hr ceremony. its meant to be a showcase of the "best" performers going around at the moment and with the likes of McCartney, Grohl, Radiohead, Coldplay, Plant, U2 and undoubtedly a surprise guest they come very very close to doing just that.

I'd love to watch it, but:

it won't be broadcast on any national TV channel so that means I'll have to watch it on Pro7
I don't understand German at all
the show starts at 2 AM on Sunday, wait, that's Monday already, isn't it?
I'll have to study for an exam
I don't know where I'll be that night

So yeah, it doesn't seem like I'll be watching it. :disappointed:

If it's airing in my country, i probably will. Some of it. I wanna see Coldplay and Radiohead and maybe U2 perform, dunno yet...

I'll watch it, because I always watch it, and because there's nothing better to watch or do on a Sunday evening. It just so happens that this year, my favorite band is nominated for 7 awards and my second favorite band (Radiohead) will grace us with a performance.

and it's the jo bro's third album as well..

they did a good job this year nominating in my opinion, with the exception of best new artist which they completely fucked up.
It should read: fleet foxes, vampire weekend, santogold, mgmt, duffy

TOTALLY agree. Although I think TV On The Radio could be in the list as well... Isnt Dear Science their debut?

And Elbow being shut out is a big miss as well.

The Grammy awards will be broadcasted live on German tv-channel Pro7 next Sunday/Monday. :)

Don't know if I'm able to watch it though, because it's at dead of night and I probably have to work the next morning...
