Good afternoon. We're pleased to confirm that Coldplay's next UK single will be Life In Technicolor ii. The track will be released on 7-inch vinyl and digital bundle on Monday February 2nd. The B-side of the 7-inch will be The Goldrush, a song which is previously unheard, unreleased and unperformed. As well as that track, the digital bundle will contain Life In Technicolor ii (Live @ The O2, London).

We'll have the video on the site for you in the next couple of weeks, but in the meantime the artwork for the 7-inch vinyl is below...

- on the sticker on the EP, it mentions it includes LIT2 and Glass of Water (this is usually done for singles or forthcomnig singles)

In regards to Will, here's Chris's comment I pulled from the Wiki:
"We're also hoping to do this thing where we give away a song with every ticket. We have this song called The Goldrush, which Will sings. It's not a massive week on the new releases front, but one B-side worthy of a wee listen is 'Goldrush', the flipside to Coldplay's new single 'Life in Technicolor ii'.

Originally intended for the group's fourth album Viva La Vida, 'Goldrush' presumably missed the final cut because it's so different from the rest of the record. It sounds like it was written during a late-night jamming session long after Chris Martin had been tucked up in bed, with drummer Will Champion taking on lead vocals instead. "I went digging for gold, down by the river, over by the mountain, where the prospector had been told," he trills here.

The result is a more modest, intimate offering than we've come to expect from the stadium-filling Coldplay. In fact, 'Goldrush' conjures up images of a straw-capped band perching on hay bales as their hillbilly pals stand around tapping their cowboy boots in unison. Yee-haw! The full version is available on the 'Life in Technicolor ii' CD single, 7" vinyl and download, all out Monday, but for now here's a 30-second taster:

It's not because of will, although it is odd hearing his voice, it's because the style of song is just so...different. It's not like Coldplay, it's not like anything I would listen to.

It's like campy southern. By campy I mean goofy and not too serious.

I've only heard it a few times, maybe it will grow but I doubt it. The distortion is also very weird.

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but its neither Jonny nor Guy singing at around 1:27. Its actually Brian Eno!! And trust me on this! It IS Brian!! But the song is so friggin wicked and I really LOVE it! I don’t care if it sound different to their usual stuff. Amazingly it took me until five minutes ago to hear it for the first time...and I love it! It has the sort of sensation that VLV pretty much lacked. The songs were so different, flashy and short that you could never soak it in like, say parachutes (particular the stretch of lost!-LIJ). Whereas, even for a short b-side, the vocals on this one are modestly sung yet very melodic. Their best songs generally appear when they're not worried about trying to "big it up".
It has a wonderful coziness which I can only pray wil show up more often on their next release. Sounds like the eagles and fountains of wayne.
