Comments to dasdull: Then Coldplay started playing. The sound was really good for an outdoor arena. :) But when Chris sang Violet Hill and Clocks, you could hear that he was a bit sick. :( Comment: Being a superhero he went through the concert anyway. :) Clocks sounded terrible, in fact. :( Chris' falsetto was great :), but he had problems hitting the "normal" notes, and sang everything a bit to high! :( They also had technical problems during the first songs, :( but the crowd was great, :) (comment: of course when so many coldplayers were there in the front row knowing the lyrics) :D and so we had a good time anyway. :) Even most people in the seats were standing, singing and clapping all the time. :)

The show got better and better. :) (comment: combined positive energy from the band and the coldplayers) During The hardest Part and the C-Stage songs Chris sounded great :), and Viva la Vida and the Encore songs were amazing, :)they put so much energy into their songs. :)
Chris was talking in German to us very often, and changed a lot of the lyrics. They
even played a short 30 second song about the gig and düsseldorf after Til
Kingdom come! (Comment: CM seems to be not only a musical genius, but a linguistic one as well). :)

Thank you, dasdull, for a very good and informative review. :)

I have now read the article (mentioned here with a link) published on RP ONLINE (ONLINE version of the newspaper Rheinische Post) with the title: Coldplay verzaubern Düsseldorf / Düsseldorf enchanted by Coldplay. In fact I am translating it now and I am also going to include a translation of some short comments made by fans leaving the Esprit Arena published on the same website. Will be posted between 20 and 21 this evening German time (it is now 19 o'clock in Denmark / Germany). :)

Haha, he spoke a lot more German in Düsseldorf than he did in Hannover. He often said "Hallo, wie geht's meine Freunde" (Hello, how's it going my friends) and he talked a lot in German when he tried to do the Mexican mobile phone wave. Sadly he didn't tell the audience from where the wave should have started. So everyone was a bit confused lol. But I really liked listening to his German, although he did some mistakes. But it's a difficult language. :D

Oh btw, shortly before the show, they removed the curtain which fell down onto the band in Hannover while they started to play Violet Hill on Tuesday. I guess they were afraid lol.

so, I have to say the bass was really a bit too much, but it didn't annoy me...I haven't really een excited after the cocnert yesterday, but today I have been...I couldn't even eat much, because I feel somewhat strange...yesterday I said I can't listen to Coldplay for some weeks, but it is exactly the opposite today...:wacky:

yesterday I was a bit "pissed" that I have to share my love for this band with thousands of people who only know Viva La Vida....I don't know why that made me feel bad---

That's very unfair! At many concerts I have found German audiences to be fantastic and at the London 02 in December I found myself surrounded by "zombies" at both concerts, and even spoke a guy next to me who didn't know who "Will" was.:stunned::shocked2::stunned:

They've been playing Yellow far, far too fast for a while, annoys me slightly, like they just want to get it over with.

my sister calls them "U-Boot" fans...like people who only like football when there is a world championship...those people are the ones who wear the t-shirts and who scream the Viva La Vida "ooohooohoohh" the loudest....and who only have fun when they play their new songs, esp. Viva La Vida...I think in my area I was one of the few who really enjoyed everything...and ewwww there was this family standing next to my sister and they were rather talking about Chris' private life than about anything else...my sister was really pissed afterwards...I think they didn*t even know the other band members...

Maybe you've got a better impression of it because you were in the front row - I had my binoculars with me and saw that there was a lot of party over there -

Sadly not in the seating areas - I only say - let's go to the cinema - where's the popcorn? :D

Okay, here is a short review how I got Chris' shirt. Months ago I joked with TickingClock about a banner for my concerts. We had stupid ideas like "Chocolate or bondage?" and such things ...
Finally, I ordered a banner on the Internet with "Chris, please let's make a deal - you give me your shirt and I give you some chocolate?!"
I didn't really believe that he would give me his shirt, but I found the text well and "If you never try you'll never know"
Yesterday I managed to exist in the first row and stood next to Chris Piano.
And as he sat down and began to play"Clocks", I held up my banner. He saw it, stopped short, read it again, looked at me and nodded briefly.
I thought "Okay, he has seen it and now?"
At the end of the concert, when all four guys came forward, I held it up again. Chris looked at me again and nodded again.
The guys then came back to play the encore and I saw Chris was wearing no shirt under his jacket (the jacket was buttoned).
Chris sat down at the piano and told about LRLRL and suddenly I saw Phil running at me. He held something in his hand, remained in front of me and said, "That's from Chris for you" and gave me the shirt.
I must have looked stunned at the moment. I said to Phil "OMG, thank you and that's for Chris," and quickly gave him the chocolate.
I held the shirt pressed close to me. The band began to play, and Chris looked at me again to see if I got the shirt. I beamed at him and screamed as loud as I could, "Thank You!" He grinned at me and sorry, at least since the moment I was definitely dead...

All I'm saying is Coldplay have "bandwagon" fans like that all over the world - it's an inevitable downside of their massive popularity.
And seated areas suck everywhere, weather it's a rock concert or a football match.;)

I can totally understand you. I went to the concert in Hannover as well and I was really sad afterwards and disappointed. Not with the band but with the crowd. It felt like I was the only one who knew all the songs and not only Viva la Vida. Of course there must have been other "proper" fans, but they were nowhere near me. Düsseldorf was great, however. I guess I was just lucky because the people next to me were really into every song.

These types of gossipmongers are also very bad...you're so right. And I like the expression "U-Boot-Fans", good word to describe them - I was so sad after the gig that I did not find anyone that I could talk to but finally I found some nice girls on my way to the car. They were celebrating that there finally got a LRLRLR-CD from a nice man because it was not so easy to get them when you came from the groundfloor. We've been talking a lot about the gig and Coldplay and we exchanged e-mail adresses becauese they're not a member of coldplaying.com

At 2:28...

"Danke! Heute machen wir mit euch eine Laola-Welle, aber mit euren Handys. Wir starten rechts hinten bei drei. Eins, zwei, drei, go..."

Düsseldorf enchanted by Coldplay
By TIMO BAKENFELDER - updated on 28.08.2009 at 11:25am - translated by Nancy Boysen.
Düsseldorf (RPO) At present there are very few rock bands with so numerous and different fans as Coldplay. Whether he or she is a schoolchild or an old rocker, whether she is a housewife or a student - who left the "Esprit Arena" after the Coldplay concert this Thursday evening had the same enthusiastic / euphoric look upon his or her face. Enchanted by Coldplay.
Many fans had also travelled far in order to see and hear the band around leadsinger Chris Martin "live" for the first, second or more times. Chantalle and Mariette travelled to the concert from Luxemburg, Björn and Nadine from Meschede, Natalie and Daniel from Bad Homburg. Like almost everybody else they found the long travel worth while.
"The versatility of the band is beyond description", Joachim Richter from Brilon in Sauerland says very enthusiastically and continues: "The variety of the songs, the many instruments that they play, Chris Martin's charisma - simply high-class."
For a long time it has not been necessary for Coldplay to be afraid of / avoid being compared to the leading forces within the music industry. Jens from Essen sees it in the same way: "Coldplay is much, much better than U2. Both the songs and the show are sensational and cannot be exceeded as regards imaginativeness."
Each fan picked out his or her personal bon-bon of the evening. It could be the British band's interconnection with the fans ( "fan intimacy" ) - in spite of the Arena being so huge - it could be the bombastic stage show, or it could be the songs' high degree of emotion (emotionalism).
Or it could also simply be the good organisation inside and outside of the Arena: The trams / streetcars were running smoothly - much to the delight of the fans who got home much easier than feared. Maybe because many of the concert-goers had left the Arena before the last couple of songs - they were almost running away to make sure that they could catch a tram / streetcar. It turned out to be unnecessary as traffic was running relatively smoothly.
Read more to find out how the fans review Coldplay's performance.

(To be continued later tonight - the fans' short comments).

To Aniskywalker: I just read your post - Chris' shirt for chocolate. It is very sweet (no pun intended) - congratulations and well done! :)

Am I the only one who liked the Howling Bells and not the Killians...?

BlueberrySwing
28-08-2009, 08:16 PM
So, I'm well-rested but still happy and all excited. :)
I was standing on the right side from the band's view, somewhere between row 5 to 10. That changed a lot, quite funny.^^
The people around me were, well, it could have been better but it was okay. Sometimes, especially during Glass of Water, I felt like being the only one who's singing
It started with the Kilians. I've heard their name before, but none of their songs. They were alright, definitely better than Howling Bells, which I disliked.
Right from the first note of Magnificant, I was totally nervous. A few minutes later, the lights were switched off and I felt like being in a trance for the next two hours. They were just perfect, marvellous and gigantic.
After it was all over, I felt electrified. That's fitting. It was like happiness and incredulity were combined. Very strange
Luckily, I was able to grab a lot of butterflies and also a copy of LRLRL, but I'm not sure whether my sister has a spare.
The setlist was great, I had doubts because VLVODAAHF is the album which I like least, but these doubts weren't affirmed, it was amazing. My personal favourites were In My Place, LiT ii, LIJ, The Scientist, Politik, Fix You and Cemetries of London. I was kind of surprised that they played Til Kingdom Come, but disappointed and sad about the missing of Speed of Sound.

Am I the only one who liked the Howling Bells and not the Killians...?

I liked the Kilians, but I liked the Howling Bells even more...;)

It started with the Kilians. I've heard their name before, but none of their songs. They were alright, definitely better than Howling Bells, which I disliked.

I think you're probably in the majority there.;)

I think the Howling Bells just didn't "fit/suit(???)" into that huge stadium with their kind of music....

The howling bells reminded me a bit of the beginnings of Coldplay - that's why I probably liked them so much....and the female singer was also very good in my opinion.

Well her singing style reminded me of Kate Bush at times - but that's not the kind of thing you want to hear before Coldplay. It was far too melancholic.:dozey:

So do I, but stadium shows lend themselves more to the "uptempo" songs, which is probably why you now hear far more of them in the sets. Even "Fix You" has "power ballad" quality about it.;)

I know what you mean - they did not "rock" the stage....but there was so much time after it until Coldplay was out, so I think that the best warm-uppers could not make a better atmosphere. I am happy that I discovered a new interesting band and that the people who choosed them had an ear for good alternative music.

The Killians were way too loud for me...it blast out, bad acoustic I think.

Just got back from my little trip to Düsseldorf. I'm tired as hell, so I hope you don't expect me to write a proper review now. ;) Maybe it will follow next week, but I'm not quite sure yet... Most about the concert has been said already anyway... ;)
Well, to make it short: What a great night! :) The boys were just wonderful as always and did an amazing job! :)
I'm also glad I had such an awesome time with all the people I met (Thank you so much again, guys!). :)
Well, I should say that the organizing at the venue was catastrohpic and that I was rather gutted about it at first, but I decided not to let it ruin my whole concert experience and I tried my very best - and it worked (most of the time ). ;)
So, now I'm just hoping that these "little" things will work out much better tomorrow in Munich and that the Coldplaying-Karma will be with me... ;)

phew, we're finally back at home as well...

God it was SO brilliant!! My friend and me had soooo much fun and although we were already exhausted before the concert, we just couldn't stop dancing and jumping.
Volunteering for Oxfam was great too, except for the people who said to us that the world is beyond help and it's a waste of time to do something against it and crap like that :dozey: The other volunteers were impressed though with all the email-addresses (for the Oxfam-newsletter) we've got, so I think we weren't that bad :P
We were standing in the front row, on Guy's side, we couldn't see a lot of the stage because we're so small and we were too far away for the butterflys, but we had such a great time there anyway.

After the concert, we had to wait 5 hours until our train came. We were sitting on the stairs of the arena until we were asked to leave :laugh3:, walked around the building and then went to the central station. And then suddenly I felt really sick. I don't know why, maybe I ate something wrong or it was just the combination of it all, having not enough sleep and food during the day, travelling 5 hours in 5 trains, the exhausting gig... so we had to sleep in a hotel instead of staying up all night, which kinda makes me sad. We met aniskywalker at McDonalds and I really would've liked to stay there listening to her storys about signs and t-shirts and chocolate :D

Also at McDonalds, a guy came to us and asked us how the concert was, so we told him how much fun we had. And then he said "Oh.. I've been to a Coldplay concert 6 years ago here in Düsseldorf and I wanted to see them again this time, but the tickets are so expensive... but it seems I missed out on something, right?" Oh yes he did! :P

I'm still overwhelmed by this totally fantastic concert. When Chris said we were one of the best audiences ever I was kind of annoyed, guessed it to be just a phrase. But after thinking about it and reading the latest comment on coldplay.com, I'm happy they really seemed to mean it. This concert really was one of the bests I've ever been to.

That reminds me - that was another highlight for me. Although it was on "the other stage" and we couldn't see it, we had great fun singing the words using our best "high" voices! It was great fun!!
Definitely a stand-out moment which was unique to that particular concert for me!:D

"HEEEEEEHEEEEEE" that was sooooooo damn f*cking awesome!!!!!
Well again I have to say: I had so much fun with all of you! I've never had such a relaxed and fun queing. The whole day was just great, besides the organisation.

my sister calls them "U-Boot" fans...like people who only like football when there is a world championship...those people are the ones who wear the t-shirts and who scream the Viva La Vida "ooohooohoohh" the loudest....and who only have fun when they play their new songs, esp. Viva La Vida...I think in my area I was one of the few who really enjoyed everything...and ewwww there was this family standing next to my sister and they were rather talking about Chris' private life than about anything else...my sister was really pissed afterwards...I think they didn*t even know the other band members...

I kind of get what you mean but I'd not say it like that. I also have two official Coldplay t-shirts I like to wear and I'm a very loud "ooohooohoohh" shouter as well because I think this audience participation is very good for the atmosphere.
The only difference is that I'm dancing and singing along to EVERY song ;)

Once again: Coldplay, Coldplayers and everyone else I spent my time with: THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

Wednesday

Carol and me arrived in Düsseldorf and went straight to the arena to check out the place.
I didn’t feel ashamed to ask basically ANYBODY we saw how many entrances there will be, where to go once inside etc.
So we walked around quite a bit and everybody we talked to gave us different information!

But the best info definitely came from the person at the reception of the arena.
I asked how far the works on the stage are done and he said: “I’ve just taken a couple of pics of it but I won’t show you… Look at it yourself!” :shocked2:

I didn’t get what he meant.

He then told us that the restaurant of the hotel next to the arena has a terrace that is INSIDE the arena and we should go there and have a coffee.
Of course we followed his instructions!
Best 3 Euros we spent that day.

We couldn’t believe we are really inside the arena and can watch the roadies working there.
Even funnier: Franksie was having a coke on a table there as well! :)

We ordered a coffee and I don’t know if it was the caffeine or the excitement that made me shake

They’ve just started building the “ramp of love” and testing the huge screens.
Here are some pics of what it looked like inside after a pic of my favourite trucks:

Thursday

I talked to a security guy on Wednesday and when we mentioned we wanted to start queuing at about 8am he said that would be too late!!
But we were determined to get to the front row so we went there at 6am.
Carol, Ilione. and K. – again: I apologise soooooo much for making you get up so early but this is what this guy told me!
Of course Carol and me were the first ones there and we sat down on my blanket that I actually didn’t intend to take back home… More about that later!
Soon after E. & K. arrived and joined our early picnick.
We saw the Dixie toilets arrive :) One of the many highlights at 6am in the morning
A lovely security guy became our new friend.
He was really helpful and gave us loads of information (he told us about the live blog and the 1LIVE interview etc) and time passed quickly (also because of this telephone conference with Ilione’s lovely and patient mother who bought her a ticket for SP in November!!! Can’t wait to see you there again!).
Later in the morning we were joined by Philip, Mark and… oh sorry, I forgot her name – I said it before that I’m so bad at remembering names!!! :embarassed:

We should be the only ones queuing at this entrance for a long time!
Apparently people only saw the other entrance and didn’t walk further.
We had the better one however because we could use the toilets of the sports hall right next to the entrance.
Kris had an amazing time queuing with us as well, but more about this later – I’ll only write about the concert now…

In the afternoon we were joined by other coldplayers.
Only from 3pm onwards it started to became more crowded and at about 4pm the security people started standing at the about 25 locks.

They decided however to NOT open the locks we were standing at.
“We used to rule the queue…”
I started a little riot, complaining that I wouldn’t go to the back of the other queues because we were the first ones arriving and queuing the longest time.
We nearly had a heart attack!
After some discussions however we could go to the front of another lock.
The plan was as follows:
Ilione and me will run first, her friend K. and Carol will take the backpacks and run after us.
I only had Kris and my mobile in a see-through plastic bag so I wouldn’t need long to enter the arena.
The guy standing next to me said: “Oh, I’ve seen him already!” So I asked if he was a member as well and he said he wasn’t – he just checked the concert thread to get more information! :)
Kris was spotted after his first trip already!

Ok, so we were all excited and shuffling our feet to run inside. (Carol just said “No, I was shaking!")
This nice security lady kindly already checked my plastic bag before the locks were opened.
She was so nice and I think a bit afraid of the people standing in front of her :)

I was the first one to enter the inside area and started running like crazy…
I was expecting that other people behind me would be faster but they weren’t!!
It’s just unbelievable! Either I don’t realise how much I walk around at work or it was the adrenaline OR people behind us were as unathletic as I am
I really was the first one to arrive at the entrance of the arena.

There however my heart dropped: They had opened the other entrance before ours and there were loads of people inside already.
I ran past Jackie (who we’ve seen at 9am already) and saw that luckily there was still an empty space at the barriers on Jonny’s side.
This was the place to go then!
Quickly Ilione arrived and helped me reserve the space for K., Larry and Carol.
There we were – FRONT ROW!!!!!!!!
I was so happy, if it wouldn’t have worked this review would have been completely different!

SueDeNimes
29-08-2009, 04:06 AM
I asked a security guy if I can put my banner in front of the barrier (I copied that brilliant idea from you, Camille! I made holes on the edges and brought some strips of cloth to bind them).
He first said it wouldn’t be possible but then asked someone else and said it would be fine as long as the step is accessible. PERFECT.

The funniest coincidence was that the guy standing on my right was calling someone as soon as we got in and his accent sounded all too familiar! So after he finished his phone call I asked where he’s from and it turns out he was only living in the town next to me!!
He was really nice (and we had the same opinion about the Howling Bells…)

Soon afterwards Fraetes joined us and the waiting time began.
I can’t really say that it took long – there was so much happening!

Miller and “Breakdancing Roadie” working on stage for example!

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2660/3865391667_b180ac71ac_o.jpg

Thank you for the review!!!!!
That is the most incredible story I've ever heard!!!
It is truly UNBELIEVABLE!

Chris really is be the nicest guy of the world :)

Good morning!!! (YAWN)

The postman woke me some time ago and delivered my shirts from cafepress...
Don't know if I'm happy about that - I wouldn't have minded to sleep a little longer TBH.

Anyways, I can as well continue now!

Soon the Kilians came on stage. K. saw them before and said they were good.
How right she was!!!!
The singer told us that 6 years ago he went to his first concert – and that was Coldplay here in Düsseldorf!
How amazing must that be?
Opening for the band you once saw from the “other side”!
He even said that he knows that you actually don’t want to see the opening bands but that he hoped that we like them.
I surely did and it was the general opinion that they’re a good band.
Here are some pics:

Next were the Howling Bells.
I won’t say much about them – I was glad when it was over.

The box standing in front of us said “ColdPlay”… who was writing that??

I can't wait for your review of the concert...

Glad that there are so many Videos on YouTube available, my videos are crap.
That's just another reason why Politik is my favourite song - such an amazing Live-Song - I only hated the claps during the piano part in the middle...nobody knew the best song Coldplay ever made....

Listen to the amazing piano part at the end - I love Chris for that :)

Yeah, thanks for this report from Rheinische Post.
I have been to Dusseldorf. It was my first concert from Coldplay, even though I am a fan since A Rush of Blood to the Head. The concert really came up to my expectations. Live, they are even better!

But I have a question, and I hope someone has an answer for me.
During the time before Coldplay playing, there was some, I'd call it, chill out music.
Does someone know, what kind of music it was?
I would be really happy if someone could tell me.

@Anna Awesome that you were allowed inside the stadium before the concert :D
And those photos that you've posted are amazing so far...Can't wait for the others :D

Are you still with me??
Here comes the part you actually wanted to read

Like people said before they didn’t use the curtain.
Phil had a short look at the arena from the other side of the stage and saw my roadies sign!
He gave me a thumbs up

Hoppy:

A look behind:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2489/3865395299_cc6ebcf140_o.jpg

When “Magnificent” started we all went crazy as the “countdown” had begun!

Ilione was so right when she said that this one track just managed to do what 2 opening bands couldn’t: we were right in the best mood!!!

I’ve never seen the “Breakdancing Roadie” action before and was so happy when he came on stage during the Jay-Z song!
Wow, he’s good!

The guy from my town had never been to a CP concert before so I “instructed” him to clap to the “Blue Danube”

So he did - I’m proud :laugh4:

They had this amazing animation on the screens with a zoom from the earth right into the arena with “Düsseldorf” written across the screens (Snow Patrol moment for Ilione and me  See, I didn’t say they copied it!!!)
It was really fitting and made the crowd go crazy then already.

The boys came on stage and you probably know what it’s like: All the hurting legs and feet and sorrows are forgotten!!

I have to disappoint you concerning pics: I didn’t take many.
It’s just soooo much better to just enjoy and dance and clap and sing than holding up a camera… too many people did that already around me.

During IMP I held up the “Chris, do you want a twiglet?” banner.
It was written in red with Kris (= Knitted Chris) and a pack of Twiglets attached on both sides :)
Picture will follow!

Chris saw it, smiled and licked his lips

He also did a really funny dance / jump and I hope someone filmed it!!!
I couldn’t stop jumping like that the following day whenever it fitted – such a funny moment!
Another thing that made me smile was that he obviously didn’t adapt to the bigger stage yet.
At the point where he normally does his jump towards Jonny on the ramp he wasn’t even at the beginning of the ramp and just did a rather small jump and laughed and continued running  :wacky:

At the end of Yellow he made gestures to people in the middle to throw a balloon to him.
When it finally reached him he didn’t manage to pop it with his guitar so he ran to where it flew and popped it there.

Will was so quick and banged a drum right at this point!!! :drummer:

Next was GOW… I always wanted to hear it and can’t tell you how happy I was when I heard the first notes
So so so so good!!!
I keep thinking back to he first time they played it live and how “different” that sounded.
Now it’s really perfect!

When they went to the B-stage I thought I could relax a little but who can resist dancing to these beats?
I certainly couldn’t!

I filmed Will singing during THP… going to upload it later!

VLV was amazing as always, the crowd really went mad when it started.
(There were so many people filming it as well.)

VLV and Lost are just indescribable live… I love the drums sooooo much!

After that they played “Singing in the rain” through the speakers and all the boys went past us to go to the C-stage.
On the setlist it says: “PLAY SINGING IN THE RAIN TRACK – EVEN IF NO RAIN”
A couple behind me started dancing together – so cute!!!

It wasn’t possible to see the C-stage so it was time for me to relax a little.
I didn’t say enough about the awful organisation in Düsseldorf but I think it’s better to keep those negative things to a minimum.
Let me just say that the security weren’t allowed to give us water and at one point I panicked: I couldn’t swallow because of my mouth being so dry.
The only things you could buy before the concert were beer and ice-cream. After 5.30pm I never saw these guys again either :dozey:

I filmed when Chris was speaking German!!!
Well, I filmed from when he was TRYING to speak
They crowd just didn’t let him – we were all doing the VIVA chant
So he tried to explain the Mexican wave, called it “Lola Welle” – so cute!
It didn’t work so he said “I have to work on my German”
Then they started Billie Jean and a huge cheer came as response from the crowd.
I’ll upload that video later as well!

It was then that I took out my blue fan (you Main Square people know it already ) because I was afraid to really start throwing up because of not drinking enough… :sick2:
The security guy kept checking if I’m alright, he was looking at me a couple of times but I’m sure he was shaking his head inside that at every new song I found energy again :)
The things Coldplay are able to do haha.

That fan was handy again to protect my eyes from the MASSIVE lights during Politik!

Next was LIJ and it is incredible every time – those butterflies are just amazing and the atmosphere is perfect. I can’t even find words.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2531/3866182422_1b9cc050f6_o.jpg

It’s difficult to try to recall how it all happened… But Brooke went to check the confetti bombs in front of me and so I held up my roadies banner again and screamed his name.
He turned around and smiled.
Then all of a sudden another roadie was in front of me and gave me one of the drum sticks Chris was throwing away during Lost!!!!!!!
I didn’t really realise what had just happened
It was pure disbelief.
It had landed in the middle of the gap between the stage and the barriers and it was so nice of him to give it to me!
From that moment onwards my body suddenly found a new reservoir of energy

Nicole, I have a video of Phil giving you the shirt!!!
I completely forgot that I filmed it – otherwise I would’ve told you!!
I only “discovered” the video here at home :)
It’ll only cost you one sleeve to watch it

So I knew that they’d play LIT II soon and I took my banner from the barrier to hold it up during the song.

Here’s a picture of it:

http://i543.photobucket.com/albums/gg446/SueDeNimes/IMG_0883.jpg

So I held it up during the song and I knew that they’ve seen it before but the best thing was yet to come:
Chris looked at me, placed his hand on his heart and made a little bow!!!!

I’m still so incredibly happy!
I didn’t expect anything like that.

Even though we were front row we could still see the fireworks during LIT II.
They had tested some fireworks in the morning and we were cheering then already, but it was really nice, even from that perpective. Lovely addition to the show.
(But we had to look up quite a lot and I’m happy I don’t have a stiff neck.)
As soon as it was over the security took a plastic strap and started pushing us to the back with it like cattle!!
But I saw a roadie removing a setlist from the floor so I screamed towards him if I can have it.
He just made a gesture that it went into pieces while removing.
BUT another roadie had heard me and was holding one and wanted to give it to me!!!
This huge security guy was moving towards me with the “cattle drive” strap and didn’t want to let me back!!
I wanted to go get my setlist however. :snobby:
And I won the fight haha.
He let me go to the stage again and take it – without mumbling “and then get the fuck out of here” however

My lucky earrings proved their name once again:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2639/3866186004_1c7bc968fd_o.jpg

Then there’s the big “I think I lost my mobile in the arena”-panicking bit.
Let me just say I didn’t – and I talked to a nice chief security guy and we even exchanged text messages afterwards :)

After that we went outside to collect our LRLRL CD!
And guess what was still at the same place I left it many hours ago? My old blanket!!
It was a huge chaos so we all agreed to meet at the entrance of the sports hall.
There we sat a couple of minutes, said bye to Larry who went back home straight after the concert. So did Frank.
Ilione, K., Nicole, Carol and me were on another mission now:
Getting something to drink!!!!
We heard GOW – but we didn’t get one.

So we went to the hotel by the arena (inside actually) and bought some drinks which was heaven!
We sat there for some time and then went to the train station together.
Thank you so much for keeping me and Carol company on the platform until our train arrived!

It was great meeting you all and thanks again to Mich and Kirsten and Camille for the text messages!

I’ll stop here for now.
I’m sure I’ll remember more later however

Pics of Kris’s adventures and videos will follow, promised.

Carol: Thanks for the yummy yummy Jammy biscuits, can't believe I still have 2 packages left.
And Ilione - you have to tell me the name of these chocolate biscuits again - I am determined to find them in my town now!!!!

That's why I always recommend you take some "Capri Sun" packets in with you, as you can nearly always get them in, and you only need large pockets to put them in. I always take four and wear cargo trousers and they came in very useful on Thursday.:D

Hey a whole thread about the doll - very nice...

Yep girl - go outside - just waited for hours in the front row to see your favourite band - but hey if you're not feeling well go outside while the concert is running instead of getting a simple glass of water ...I don't like security they are taking themself way too serious and don't have a clue at all.

To get the drum stick and the setlist on one evening - that's supercool - everything was worth it for you, I think.

The other thing to remember if you're queuing outside for an unusually long period of time is to make sure you keep sipping liquids throughout as you're unlikely to realise you're dehydrated until it's already too late, which is when you actually feel thirsty.
I know this from running and tennis.
While queuing on Thursday I managed to finish off two 1L bottles of apple-cranberry before the gates opened, plus a cola and two Capri Suns inside and I didn't feel the need to visit the loo until I actually arrived home.
This indicates to me that I must have sweated everything out, as I do during sport or clubbing.;)

I'm searching for the music that was played between the bands and during the entrance. Does someone know, where or how I can find it?

REVIEW:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ENGLISH (Sorry for my bad english^^)
A small Review of the concert (a little later, however, all the same:D)

We have arrived with 4 people by the train. We were thus about 11am before the arena and have gone to the entrance north-east. There were maybe just 10 people;)

We start some conversations with some people. What one should make, also whole 6 hours ..^^. Of course it became more full it of the time. All at once everybody has jumped up and has come forwards. It was 4pm although an admittance only at 4pm was (We do not know yet why this happened :D). Then around POINT 5pm we walked in. We are running to the entrance to the interior coagulated. However, then the running was forbidden:D

Then we came one of the first to the damn big arena. It was to be walked quite cool in an empty arena;). We have selected a good playce and then we had to wait again 2 hours to the Support Acts started to play. Kilians were quite okay, but Howling Bells...

When it went off then, finally, the mood was unbelievable in front! After 10 hours wait, finally, we have got this what we wanted: COLDPLAY:) The sound very felt also well and the performance of course. Unfortunately, I could not see Chris in "The hardest part": (

The whole concert was perfect. Chris could say even a few things in German:)

So then at 11pm end was, we are out fast, because we wanted a CD of LRLRL. We have also taken one of it.

Luckily we were there by train and this also went very fast. They have gone because at 2 minutes of tact to the CENTRAL STATION:) And then a great evening draws to a close. :)

A lot of pictures on flickr, selfmade^^ :)

Some very few spots on the left had still been free but most of the first row was already taken. And since the guy who controlled us was just as quick as a tortoise, we ended up 2nd row wheras next to us there was somone in first row who just arrived at 6 pm. Furthermore many people were sent upstairs to another imaginary entrance... On top of the stairs they had to return and take tha other path...

But how did you say? The bass isnt to loud hm? xD When the bass came in the songs are destroyed. I mean OK, the camera can not handle it, but even so you can here that it was way too much. Have a look at the scientist for example...I dont think there is much to say hm?

Otherwise nice videos and pics.

@Ani: You're welcome, my dear! Did you have your camera with you in Düsseldorf?

@GTskilled: Oooh, come on... I know the bass is annoying, I'm sorry about that. But I think a worse audio quality but a good picture quality is better than nothing... ;) And you know, I stood right in front of a box, so it's no wonder that the bass is so loud...

A video from the first row shouldn't really be taken as an example to support your point however!!

@GTskilled: Well, okay... But still: I don't think the bass was "too much"... It was okay and I think just normal for a stadium gig like that... You should have heard the bass of a support act I saw on Sunday, THAT was horrible! :stunned:

Yeah, I know that a stadium gig needs much of bass for reaching 40.000 people. But there has to be an other opportunity so that people in front of the stage have a nice acustic, too.

In fact I love a loud bass...but in my opinion it has to fill into the song. It can not be that you hear only BUM BUM BUM and a bit of Chris Martin. Where were the violins in Viva La Vida? ( Don´t know the Englisch word :D ) Where was the Piano in The Scientist after the refrain? When the bass has such a volume they should have made the guitars etc louder, too.

Gosh my English is crappy, isnt it? :P

Personally I think the bass at the concert was just right. The problem with all those distorted videos on Youtube is that the tiny, little condenser mics in digital cameras aren't built for the kind of sound volume you find at rock concerts.

Next time, I'll cut a foam ear plug in half and strap that in front of the mic holes, maybe that will help ;)

I must admit:

I do also think that the bass was too loud sometimes....not always, but sometimes...

r25d01
02-09-2009, 12:18 AM
Yes but it in my opinion it wasn't as worse as GTskilled describes it. You could still hear every single instrument. I have been to a lot of concerts with differing acoustics. Coldplay in Düsseldorf was somewhere between good and very good.

Dark_Sofie
02-09-2009, 05:02 PM
Well, I was totally content with the bass.
:laugh4: Sometimes I thought it could be a bit louder. ;)

GTskilled
02-09-2009, 06:00 PM
Well let me just say it like this:

A person who was in front ( or like 6 meters from the stage as me ) and still could here the "clocks melody" or the violins in Viva La Vida AFTER the bass came in, has to be a god.

Otherwise: It was my first concert so I cant compare this acoustic to other ones. But listening to the songs with a good music player ( 5.1 ) is better for sure. ( Only acoustic of course )

02-09-2009, 08:28 PM
Seriously, you're exaggerating a bit. Everyone understood your point of view and the most of us have a different one. That has nothing to do with being a fanboy because Dark_Sofie and me were at he front as well. And I kind of see what you mean but I could still hear the clocks melody ;-)
So please, let's just leave ist this way: Different opinions
