01-12-2008, 05:22 AM
Was it meant to be funny? It's by no means a comedy
it has loads of subtleties, which is something I love in a movie. The Soundtrack was brilliant too.
You just discredited your own opinion by saying you weren't in the mood for a movie and you were tired
I disliked Star Wars when I was in that kind of mood, that is profound
strawberryfields
01-12-2008, 05:28 AM
Well, I heard from a few friends that it was a comedy, so I was wrongly expecting humor when watching it. That's probably one of the reasons I didn't enjoy it very much. I agree though, the soundtrack was fantastic!

Bella Swan has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother re-marries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn't expect much of anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen, a boy unlike any she's ever met. Edward is a vampire, but he doesn't have fangs and his family is unique in that they choose not to drink human blood. Intelligent and witty, Edward sees straight into Bella's soul. Soon, they are swept up in a passionate, thrilling and unorthodox romance. To Edward, Bella is what he has waited 90 years for - a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. But what will Edward & Bella do when a clan of new vampires comes to town and threaten to disrupt their way of life? (Summit Entertainment)

I wanna see the Darjeeling Limited, it look pretty good to me. Some of myf riends saw it and didnt like, but that wont make me not see it.. thats their own opinion.
My fave movie is American Beauty, I know quite a few people who dont like it at all.
I like all the movies in my sig alot plus thousands of more. I like alot of movies, but movies I usuall dislike are the typical suspense horror films, spesh the new ones- Saw, texas chainsaw, all the other ones where the girl screams and runs after being stabbed 40times.
Oh and the neverending story.. what a great film. *i used to love it when I was a little girl. I own i on dvd:P

I do like movies like. The secret window, what lies beneath, 1409*i think thats what its called*, idenity, dont say a word, the shining, fatal attraction, sleeping with the enemy, silence of the lambs, sixth sense etc etc
I just never been a fan of horror flicks, i cant get into them.

Internet Movie Database
MPAA RATING: R for language, some sexual content and brief
violence
Starring Sean Penn, James Franco, Josh Brolin, Emile Hirsch, Diego
Luna, Victor Garber, and Denis O'Hare, Stephen Spinella
In 1977, Harvey Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of
Supervisors, becoming the first openly gay man to be voted into major
public office in America. His victory was not just a victory for gay
rights; he forged coalitions across the political spectrum. From senior
citizens to union workers, Harvey Milk changed the very nature of what it
means to be a fighter for human rights and became, before his untimely
death in 1978, a hero for all Americans. (Focus Features)

Sean Penn never tries to show Harvey Milk as a hero, and
never needs to. He shows him as an ordinary man, kind, funny, flawed,
shrewd, idealistic, yearning for a better world.
Lowest Critic Comment:
60 New York Daily News (Joe Neumaier)
The final result somehow undersells a man whose life and
death were watershed moments in the gay rights movement.
Some People Comments:
(Chet B.) gave it a 6 :
Liked it but I thought it was too safe, as if they didn't
want to offend straights. What about the 1970s bath houses, what about
the in-your-face sexuality? How could Harvey shrug off the suicide of his
lover? Okay, a grand Hollywood epic making gays appealing to the heirs of
Dan White. Necessary but not challenging in any way.
(Adam) gave it a 10:
Milk is one of those rare movies that tries to be many
things, and succeeds at all of them. This is a film that can provoke
change, open eyes, and change lives. I know it changed mine.

Statham isn't an actor who coasts, not even in a recklessly
enjoyable picture like Transporter 3. He does the work, so we don't have

Lowest Critic Comment:
25 San Francisco Chronicle (Peter Hartlaub)
The fight scenes are lackluster and the plot is needlessly
complicated. If you're making an action film that centers on fast cars
and fast women, it's usually best to keep the rest of the story simple.
Some People Comments:
(Chris R.) gave it a 5 :
It's rare for me ever to review a movie but this one
definitely is worth reviewing. Simply stated, this movie is a let-down
for the series. First, the plot didn't flow well. Also the dialogue was
quite subpar. Though the love interest in the movie is not a very good
actress, she was the only thing that held my attention other than the
three good action scenes. Imo, I'd wait for the DVD.

Not nearly as fun as the last 2. The love interest is one of

It may not hit mainstream success... its still pretty funny and a comforting movie to watch.......... plus Rob Schneider's a funny guy... so why not watch a Comfort Movie?

The spanish version is so scary! I haven't seen this version but I'm assuming it's the same. I think there's going to be a second part.
I just saw push and it was okay. The plot wasn't explained well and the ending sucked.
and Def, Maybe sucked too. I can't believed I watched the whole thing. It was so boring it was making me sleepy and also Silk. I didn't even finished watching it 'cause it was just a pain.

I concur. The Spanish version has the hottest chick in the world. I even stole a DVD 'Usenet' copy from my cousin, who is a IT tech geek, he got a diploma in TAFE. I found it really visceral, palatable & believable. Anyway I better Run, I gotta Patrol the Snow outside my house, it's actually raining hail here believe it - or not. Plus I gotta go Down to my neighbour's Cellar door & fix their plumbing.
I might watch the USA version with my best friend's niece later tonight. Her family has like a stockpile of Region 1 DVDs imported from Amazon.

Are you actually retarded?
Retarded? Are you a Nazi? Are you a terrorist? The moment you say someone is said expletive, is the moment you concede to defeat on a point of debate.
HA, you give Coldplay fans a bad name. No wonder this site is an unintellectual teenybopper fest of BS & posing. I suggest kindly to read up on some George Orwell , or Jane Austin.
If you are game enough & aren't a homosexual deviant, try Sigmund Freud...if your small skull & small brain can handle it. As Travis would sing in 12 Memories Peace The F%^K Out as there is too much $hit pouring out of your unintelligible mouth.

I love when Fish bite :)
I also love how you think mentioning a few authors is going to justify your intelligence and your assumption that I am not well read.
I'm glad I supposedly give Coldplay fans a bad name, I wasn't aware they were famed for being "unintellectual teenyboppers" I thought they were famed for being people with bland tastes in music (not noscessarily my views)
George Orwell...I really liked the story and ideology of 1984, but I almost put the book down at one point because there was a section where he wasn't even making the politics behind the book subtle anymore, it was almost just him ranting (this is when they are reading "the book" by the way) It lost some of it's charm at that point.
For reference, the reason I made that post was purely for this:
"The Village (you should must see)"
Not only a terrible use of English but a really bad movie

I presumed most teenybopper fans could digest that lingo. I was trying to simply go down to their level of language, text messaging or speech.
The Village cemented my fandom of M Night Shyamalan. I then watched Lady In The Water some years later in the theatres.
Back on topic. TV's lead actor Michael Pitt has a killer French/American film called DREAMERS. The twist will have you rushing for the dunny, Woolworths & tampons.

ALIENS VERSUS HUMAN BEINGS?
Just saw this some two hours ago & already it's having an effect on me (make love not war - the power of love must overcome the love of power). According to the film human beings are at:
x1) Precipice & turning point in history, we either self destruct &/or or evolve?
y1) We all have the capacity to change, but the ultimate 'no-middle-ground' question is will it be for the good - or the bad?
I saw the original some years ago on DVD, so I had 'point of reference' on what the movie's political & idealogical aims are. The 50's version had fear of Communism *?* (not to sure of that, but I'm gonna re-watch it to make sure). This 08' version 'adapted' hitherto with a Zeitgeist fear of ecological/environmental/military destruction. I must admit the ending was abrupt, & initially shallow, plus lacking an epilogue. But baby, that's what DVD is for (aka deleted scenes & alternate endings). Hence when it hits the shops at a cheap clearance & affordable price, I will snap it up gladly.
There are so many subtle themes in the film (power plays, chain of command, hierarchy, religion, redemption) so much so that if I ever become a college teacher, I would definitely use this film as springboard for discussion & further exploration of these issues; that effect & can change the world. Another potential morale/message (science-fiction revels in this) is nothing ever stays the same, hate can become love (vis-a-vis) vice versa: all done within an unpredictable/'chaos theory' time frame.
IMHO the special effects played a secondary part to the drama & emotional resonance. Keanu Reeves was splendid & a key contributor (maybe they should have called this film The Matrix 4: Redux). Jennifer Connelly was intense & did enough (she looked pretty with her black hair). Will Smith's son was annoying at first, but later you grow to sympathise with his character for losing his dad: he simply missed the hell out of him. So yeah, add the theme of mourning/child psychology/parenting to the list above. Cathy Bates (I will always remember her for her role in Misery - based on a Stephen King novel) exemplified the gun-ho nature of American ...let's invade Iraq, Afghanistan shall we... politicians.

Starring Ralph Fiennes, Kate Winslet, David Kross, Lena Olin, Bruno Gan, and Alexandra Maria Lara
The Reader opens in post-WWII Germany when teenager Michael Berg becomes ill and is helped home by Hanna, a stranger twice his age. Michael recovers from scarlet fever and seeks out Hanna to thank her. The two are quickly drawn into a passionate but secretive affair. (The Weinstein Company
Critics : 58 out of 100
Viewers : 7 out of 10
What I think: Kate winslet brings the whole story without her the story is dull and boring. Her acting brings life to the movie.. and also David Kross who plays Michael Berg also gives life to the movie..but when he grows old and becomes Ralph Fiennes the movie suddenly gets boring..( i dont like ralph fiennes acting at all) He isnt connected to the character like David Kross is.
But in parts there are mix of emotions you can feel the love of Michael and Hanna is unexplainable and trully dramatic, trully makes the movie an oscar nom, love for one antoher with a twist at the ending stage of the movie.. I got teary a bit yes, Winslet's acting makes the movie a speacial treat and the plot is somehow different until it reaches the end where the plot is seamingly lifeless..and when wiinslet kills herself and she is gone from the movie it seems that the movie has lost its luster.
Why did she kill herself whats the point? Guilt? Michael lives his life in full guilt and never tells hannah what he feels and what he shouldve done. Tsk Tsk Tsk.. FOr me this movie is spectacular in some points but somehow loosely ended. But the amazing part is when he reads to her winslet gets this look which makes you think that in little ways tihs character enjoys life in the fullest in simplest forms.. sucha horrible person she is (she was a Nazi Guard who never cared) Could be this sensitive middle aged woman who has love that goes to no boundaries with michael...Love is trully eternal
My score: 7.9 Out of 10 (winslet may win the Best actress..either her or angie jolie, raplph fiennes ruined the moviie:\)
