View Full Version : Could "Yes" be about Chris cheating?

So I was over at songmeanings, and read what someone wrote saying how Yes could possibly be about Chris's realiionship and his temptation to cheat.

The individual said they were actually shocked to hear Chris even doing the song because to them it's obviously about like pervaricating over cheating or what not. Especially wiht such a high profile marriage, etc.

I've always thought the song was about wanting someone, but having it kind of forbidden.

Now when I read that. It really makes sense.

Like

"When it started we had high hopes;
now my back's on the line, my back's on the ropes...
When it started we were alright,
but night makes a fool of us in daylight."

Would be about initial high hopes being married, and then realizing its shit or whatever.

And the rest is just about him being led into temptation and being tired of feeling lonely in the marriage or what not.

Btw, I am not trying to read too much into his personal life. I just think that its REALLY REALLY fits.

I think it's about a cocaine addiction Chris secretly suffers from

I think my stories influence too many people sometimes

And shutup guys. Lol. I'm jsut saying. If you like didn't know Chris.

Actually, you don't know Chris anyways.

But, if like this was from a band you've never heard before. And you hear the lyrics, you don't think that you'd think it would be cheating on a significant other? Cuase it sure sounds like it.

saying yes could be about anything
the chorus differs from the verses in some way

but who knows. he might have just scribbled some words down

I was just listening to an interview with Chris talking about what Yes is about.

He said it's very sexy, that's why he likes singing it. It's about boobs and other things like that, written for another character. He said he's just pretending to be someone else in it
.

Which interview?

But yeah, if I wrote a song about wanting to cheat. I wouldn't go and tell someone it's about me either.

actually no. I personally always look for much deeper meanings in songs than something like that, but maybe I'm wrong

saying yes could be about anything

exactly. not all songs have real meanings, sometimes they are just written randomly and have no application to the writer. I would know, I have written many songs.

Not all songs have deeper meanings.

Shiver for example.

It's about a guy having unreturned feelings for a girl.

I'm sure some songs are unrelated, and about other people's experiences not the writers.

But there's no way you can be sure either way.

I'm just pondering, speculation, ideas.

I'm not like saying it's about this for sure. I'm just suggesting it cause I thought it was interesting.

I get what you're saying, and it is interesting, but please don't go spreading rumors that Chris is having an affair:rolleyes: (some people would do that!)

Just throwing out an possibility.

Wanting to cheat is not the same anyways.

That's why I said "Btw, I am not trying to read too much into his personal life. I just think that its REALLY REALLY fits."

I don't know Chris obviously. But from everything I've seen, he seems like the complete opposite of that kind of guy. I don't think he'd cheat. But thoughts like these obviously cross your mind in any relationship.

Of course, I see what you're saying. It would be an interesting case of human behavior analysis if it really were written about his own "temptations"

It's a common mistake to assume songs are always biographical. And while certain moods apply VLV is an album to be taken far from literally (I mean, are dead people really living in Chris's head?). Only tracks like Lost! and strawberry swing have any strong personal import.

what if is an old song?... i think chris has said something about that related to the new album, some songs are some old songs they've "rescued".

so may be that one is about he and his wife, but from when they weren't yet a couple.

(honestly i've answered that thread taking into account only the lines you've posted bertuzzi44).

Yeah... I mean, it could relate to experiences Chris had when he was younger before he was married or something, but it really does not need to relate to his personal life.. :stunned:
