WHO ARE THEY?

Homespun Londoners who pen nimble, poetic pop songs in the style of The Magic Numbers or Belle and Sebastian. Their lo-fi outlook has also been likened to vintage Lou Reed and Jonathan Richman.

WHY THE FUSS?

The four-piece group's new single, 5 Years Time, is one of the summer's most infectious tunes. Out digitally on July 21, and in hard copy a couple of weeks later, it is a glorious love song punctuated by whistling, ukulele and some wispy backing vocals from Laura Marling. A full-time band member until recently, Marling remains a close associate of the quartet.

WHAT'S THE STORY?

Inspired by his mum's collection of folk albums, singer and guitarist Charlie Fink, 21, started the group in Twickenham at the end of 2006. He was joined by his brother Doug on drums, classical prodigy Tom on violin and former child actor Urby Whale on bass and harmonium. Marling signed up later, leaving to start her solo career. Her brilliant debut album, Alas I Cannot Swim, was produced by Charlie.

AND THEN?

The band bopped until they dropped. They played more than a hundred shows in 2007, touring with Feist and Broken Social Scene before supporting The Zutons on a tour of Britain's forests. Two singles with discerning indie label Young And Lost Club led to a major deal with Vertigo, who will release the band's debut album, Peaceful The World Lays Me Down, next month. A prolific bunch, the group even came up with a complete collection of new material when they were recently given three days to cut some B-sides. Maybe they can release albums two by two.
