i missed out on tickets for the first show somehow, even though i was trying since before 9... it seemed to be sold out after 2-3 minutes... so i tried the second one as soon as it was up... and i got tickets at the very (*very*) back, to the side... eugh :(

Same for me, we got the chance to buy tickets really far away and we didn't buy them, that's why I think they're not completely sold out, plus people might have made wrong orders and some tickets will be available in the next days when this first batch will be sorted out
let's be positive
@Sandy: I suggest you create an account on ticketmaster ;)

Hiya,
I have 2 tickets to the Belfast Odyssey gig on the 19th of December, but would really love to swap for either of the Dublin gigs. (Can't believe how fast they sold out! Talk about popular!!)
My tickets are on the South Upper, Row U, Seats 5 & 6 (door 5).
I've never been to the Odyssey, but I've heard it's great. I'm pleased that I have tickets at all, but I would prefer the Dublin gig for travel reasons.
Thanks a million.

I've been coldplay fan for years, they my favourite band by far, last i seen them was in Marley park in 2005. My friend and I queued up from 7 in the morning at Jervis. Although there was only two people ahead of us, if we had not went so early we wouldn't of got tickets. When it came to 9 o'clock I they start selling tickets, only for the first guy to turn around and tell us it was sold out already, they announced second concert there and then, when the second guy was there he turned around and said second concert was selling out fast, luckily when we got up they still had tickets, and we got great seats, block A row 19. Very lucky to get them tickets let alone the seats.
I think the way tickets are sold is wrong, there should be enough tickets put aside for people who get up early and queue up, instead of them all being sold out online and then its a dissapointing and a waste of a morning for those who queue up.
Maybe they might come back next year sometime in the summer in a bigger venue so more people have a chance to see them who miss out this time

Whoa this makes me remember when I queued up at 6 for U2 tickets and when they started selling them the Milan show was already sold out, almost 70.000 tickets gone in like 5 minutes (luckily I have been able to find them by swapping my Rome one).
I'm with you about the wrong way the tickets are sold, not only for people who queue up but also for those who are not even aware of the concert, it was a short notice and prolly many people are on holidays..and the show is in December, plus (almost) no one knew there was a second one, you don't even have to time to understand if you can really go.
Anyway I'm not giving up my hope to find tickets for this show too, even if I have to feed the touts outside the O2, it would be too painful to be in Dublin and not be able to go :(

This is the new seating chart for the o2 Dublin for the Coldplay gigs. I know this is gonna sound incredibly stupid, but I don't really understand how this chart works. I'm trying to figure out where Row 39 on block H is.
Here is the seating chart: http://www.ticketmaster.ie/seatingchart/197033/12092/
I'm sorry for asking such a silly question, as it's probably obvious to everyone but me where Row 39 is, but I just can't figure it out myself! It's the numbers that are throwing me...are they for the rows or the seats or what?
Cheers for any help anyone can offer!

Cheers for any help anyone can offer!block H is in green. The numbers along the front of the first section of "H" that say 33-37 are row numbers. You will notice the next sections of "H" go beyond the first so the row numbers go higher than 37. The numbers along the back of each section are the seat numbers.

Sorry, just realised they are for the 21st December not 22nd. They are in Block F Numbers 160 and 161.
hmmm, thats a sunday right? well it all depends on whether i have exams on the monday or not, god i hope not.
are numbers 160 and 161 on the lower tier, do you know? (they're like colour-coded on the seating charts for the o2 i think...)
oh yes! and the all-important question, what price are you selling them at?

Hey kids,
Welcome to a new post of someone desperately begging for two tickets for any of the dates :(
I was on holiday when they announced the Dublin date and by the time I came back they were sold out.
Was having a look on eBay and theyre going for astronomical amounts of money, and being a lowly student I can't afford any of those prices.
So, does anyone have two or know of someone who's looking to get rid of theirs and impart them to someone who's been a fan since the beginning?
Im desperate to see the lads in Dublin again, saw them in Marlay before and they were fcuking class.
Anyways, cheers for reading my pathetic rant :) Any help is very much obliged.
Cheers

O2 FIRST: Boyzone
The very first show for the sensational new O2 arena in Dublin can finally be revealed.
The Herald can exclusively announce that the honour will go to the Childline Concert on December 16.
The event will feature a host of pop acts including Boyzone, Shayne Ward, Scouting for Girls, The Script, Alphabeat and The Saturdays.
The first gig at the amazing new 13,000 capacity venue that has replaced the Point Depot had been subject to intense speculations for months.
Glorious
U2, Oasis and even Britney Spears had all been mooted as being the first act to play the venue, so it comes as a huge surprise that promoters have opted for the Childline Concert.
However, insiders have told the Herald that the charity event was "a glorious dress rehearsal opportunity" to ensure that the new venue will be "up to scratch".
Priced at €40 each, Childline tickets will go on sale next Thursday, November 13, at 9am and concert promoters are expecting them to sell out fast.
Although those who don't manage to get a ticket will still get a sneak preview of the multimillion-euro venue with the concert being televised on RTE 2 on Friday December 19 at 7pm.
Since the first concert was held in 1997, Childline has benefited to the tune of €2.5m and the children's charity will receive €400,000 alone from 2008's concert.
Thanks
According to a representative of the charity: "Childline would like to thank all parties involved with the concert including the artists, organisers and The O2 Dublin, who are generously giving their services and time free of charge on this historic opening night of the O2 arena.
"Their involvement will contribute significantly to ensuring that every child who contacts Childline will be heard," they added.
Meanwhile Mike Adamson, CEO of The O2, Dublin said: "We are very excited and find it fitting that the Cheerios Childline Concert, a major charity event, will be unveiling The O2 Dublin.
"We are looking forward to the concert and everyone enjoying the fabulous new facilities on the night," he added.
Following the much anticipated Childline concert, Kings of Leon will play the impressive arena on December 19 while Coldplay will take to the stage on December 21 and 22.

Turns out I may have something come up family-wise for next week, unfortunately. Which means I might not be making it from the States. However, I won't find out if I'll be heading to Ireland or not until Sunday (like literally right before my flight)!!
So if anyone is desperately searching for tickets for one of these shows, drop me a PM. If I'm not going to be able to make it across the pond, I can send you scans of my tickets. Probably sounds a bit shady, but it's the best I can do. If it works, you are welcome to Paypal me the cost of the tickets--meaning I'd be putting a bit of faith in you, too. But I'd be getting nothing for them anyway, so I figure its worth a shot.
Again, PM me if you might possibly want my tickets for Monday night. I won't be able to give you any warning of whether or not you'll actually get them until Sunday night/Monday morning. Probably not best for most people, but if you're desperate!

No way in hell they'd let you in with scanned tickets.
polkahard
18-12-2008, 08:48 PM
Really? I've actually done it more than once...considering all they do is scan a barcode these days, you pass it off as one of those "printed out" tickets.
polkahard
19-12-2008, 07:53 PM
Unfortunately, I got news today that I'm not going to be able to make it. Prior committments, combined with the nasty snowstorm here in the States, made sure of that.
But, if anyone still is interested in buying, let me know TODAY. I could still do international overnight shipping today and the tickets should in all likelihood make it to you in Ireland by Monday. And I'll also send along the scans by e-mail as a back-up in case the real thing doesn't make it there in time. (Which actually does work, believe me.)
Thing is, if you want any chance of getting them shipped, I need a PM [b]today[/i]. Tickets are Block E, Row 32, Seats 132 and 133. Cost is face value, 132.30 euro, (exactly what I paid for them through Ticketmaster with booking fees), and say, 10 euros tacked on to get them out to you.

Talked with Denise just one minute ago. Wonderful gig! She recorded a lot of videos and shot a lot of photos! Same setlist of yesterday, she is still outside waiting for the guys (they took a look to her banner about 'Crests Of Waves')...
Denise met Chris yesterday in a casually way. He said Crests Of Waves was tried in soundcheck (even today) but it sounds ugly! Maybe one day in the next future will be performed...
Chris said he knows COLDPLAYZONE!!! Yeah!
Regarding the gig, Denise and Elena (a friend of mine and her, one of the staff girls of Coldplayzone) said to me there was brilliant, with a very incredible Pogues' Fairytale rendition, sung by all the audience! On Viva La Vida, they rocked! Fucking amazing!
Denise will be tomorrow in Belfast, trying to talk with Chris again (or perhaps with the others), but today she shown his banner to Phil Harvey and he smiled!
GREAT!

I thought the High Wire were pretty decent. Would like to see them in a more intimate venue and with less distractions of the arena filling up while they were playing. The 2nd act I didn't really pay much attention to, and the videos on the screen were just plain weird!
Onto The Main Event! - COLDPLAY!
It's about 9:05pm and the arena is pretty much full. You can feel the anticipation and buzz in the air. Everybody was waiting for that serenade of sound. That familiar classical piece of music echoes throughout the arena to the sound of rhythmic claps. I know the moment I've been waiting for (3 years and 5 months to be precise) was not far away.
The lights dim and the crowd unify in delight. 4 shadowed figures parade about with what could only be described as sparklers behind a draped curtain whilst the intro to Life In Technicolor rings loud. I can feel my arms tense as the excitement and adrenaline flows through my veins. Life In Technicolor concludes in a chorus of WHOA OH'S!
The curtain lifts...."It was a long a dark december...." This is it I thought. My favourite Coldplay song was just starting and at that moment it felt like I could do anything I wanted. The bass, the drums, so powerful and progressive marching in time. Violet Hill finished to Chris saying "If you're having as good a time as we are....won't you let us know" the cheers followed loudly.
Then it was like a little step back in time as they played Clocks and In My Place and it was like rekindling the fire of just hearing them again. The reason I fell in love with Coldplay, the reason why I was hooked. The lasers throughout Clocks were amazing and also the euphoric choruses of In My Place went down a treat.
A slightly shorter version of Speed of Sound followed and it was no less great. Chris then had a little interaction with the crowd just before Yellow. He wanted to know if the rumours were true that the crowd tonight were going to be louder than yesterdays audience whom he gave "10 out of 10" He began to whip the crowd up into a frenzy by suggesting that when Jonny lifted his arm all the men should scream as loud as they could. Similarly when Guy lifted his all the women were to scream as loud as they could. As if they needed any incentive I thought! Chris also said that if will did any kind of movement that was the signal for everyone to scream. So screams were traded and I think it was quite clear the girls were louder as there were some piercing screechs! Chris then gave the signal to Will who started the crowd and Yellow was in full swing complete with gigantic yellow balloons.
Chinese Sleep Chant was next which I appreciate to its fullest even if the majority of the crowd decided that this was the time to take that all important leak/beverage top up! This was then followed by brilliant 42. I loved the way it was built up to its climax and the energy could be felt all the way to the back row.
Chris moved back to his piano as 42 concluded and those jazz organ sounding notes of Fix You began to illuminate the arena. Everyone was on their feet for this. Every single vocal cord was put to use as Chris didn't even need to sing the first chorus. The anthem grew into its glorious climax with the crowd staying with it til its conclusion.
The crowd settled for a little and drew breath when the guitar riff from Strawberry Swing began to soar through the air accompanied by Guys clapping. It was such a beautiful sweet sounding song which then came to life as Will inflicted his African sounding beats upon it. The songed faded out as calmly as it began along to the systematic clapping of the audience.
Over to the B stage they went as the techno version of God Put A Smile Upon Your Face and Talk which had everybody rocking. Really enjoyed the shorter renditions of both songs. This was then followed by Chris' solo performance of The Hardest Part and Postcards From Far Away. Just before The Hardest Part he dedicated the song to anybody having any struggles or difficulties in their lives which I thought was a nice touch. He also said that in about 5 minutes he hoped he would have a famous Dublin sing along.
Back to the main stage they went and the strings from Viva La Vida brings the whole arena to its feet. This was the highlight of the night for. The crowd were so loud! dancing, singing, jumping it just had everything. Even long after the song finished the crowd continued to keep the momementum going with continuous OHHHH WHOA OHHHHHHHHHHHH OHH's!
Then I think everyone was taken by surprise as suddenly the sound of African drums once again filled the arena as Lost! was belted out. I really really enjoyed this one and I think Viva La Vida and Lost! in succession of each other is pretty irresistable combination!
Then another personal highlight of the night when the band left the stage and began ascending the stairs to a tiny platform in the middle of the crowd which just happened to be no more than about 6 feet away from where I was situated. I had debated this earlier in the night with my friend that they would come to the spot beside us to play the acoustic set, and luckily I was right :D I tried to collar Jonny as he came up the steps, I scream to "let me play Green Eyes" unfortunately it wasn't to be! Heart warming renditions of Green Eyes/Jingle Bells (which Chris proclaimed as a new song!) and Fairytale Of New York followed. Fairytale of New York went down a treat with the Dublin crowd as they ably assisted Will with his vocals on this. They promptly made a quick exit from their little platform and gave the crowd a little respite as a remix of Viva La Vida played.
After a short break the band re-emerged on stage to a thumping rendition of Politik. I just love the contrasts of the song from the thumping chorus' to the subtle piano of the verses. Again building to another astonishing climax. This was followed by Lovers In Japan which is probably my most listened to Coldplay song of late. Its really infectious and again it didn't fail to deliver both in audio values and aesthetics. Literally hundreds of confetti butterflies were scattered and blown across the arena as the band played. As the song was nearing its conclusion they dimmed the lights and turned on these kind of ultraviolet blue lights which seemed to make the butterfly confetti illuminate and mesmerize the audience.
Chris returned to his piano to start off Death And All His Friends. Which again was very pleasing to hear and one which went down extremely well as its little funky bassline in the middle had everyone grooving. The song finished to rapturous applause and the band made sure the crowd knew they appreciated their participation and contribution to the evening by walking to all corners of the stage and applauding.
The band left the stage as more Viva La Vida chants struck up from the crowd. They returned to the stage from their brief encore break with an absolutely beautiful and heartfelt rendition of The Scientist. It really was moving to have been there and to have witnessed what a beautiful song it truly is. Chris also threw in a Take That cover of Back For Good at the end which sounded a lot better accompanied by The Scientist's chords rather than the original, or am I being a little biased??
I knew by this time the concert was just over and I just wanted to appreciate the final song in all its glory. It ended how it started, with Life In Technicolor. Except this time it was the Life In Technicolor II in all its glory with lyrics and more anthemic chorus' Chris thanked the crowd for coming and also wished everyone a Happy Christmas during the song.
The song finished an ultimately the gig. I felt exhausted, elated, overwhelmed all the emotions you could imagine. I was just speechless, but I had a permanent grin on my face. One which is still here now as I write this!
The gig maybe over, but the memory of this night will never fade away. Thank you Coldplay for one of the best nights of my life!

Finally just arrived back home from one of the best gigs I've ever seen. I'll post a more in-depth review with many videos tomorrow but for now Bohs's review summed it up well. It was absolutely amazing.
But while it's still all fresh in the memory, the highlights have to be Yellow, Fix You, Green Eyes and Viva La Vida. Bohs wasn't joking, the reception Viva got once the strings entered after Postcards was UNBELIEVABLE!

LOVE 'em or loathe 'em, there is no escaping the fact that Coldplay's meteoric rise during the noughties was astonishing.
Despite a poor critical reception last June, their current album 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends' holds the honour of being the most downloaded album in existence, topping the charts in a whopping 36 countries.
Back when this space was a horrendous dockside barn with atrocious acoustics, Chris Martin and chums played here while touring 'A Rush of Blood to the Head'. Both the venue and the band have raised their game since.
Even though Coldplay unashamedly rip off Pink Floyd, Radiohead and U2, and are currently being sued for plagiarism by Joe Satriani, their delivery and production values are impeccable. Apart from having to pay the outrageous sums of €6 for a pint, €6.50 for a glass of wine and €3 for a bottle of water, the O2 lives up to the hype.
Three songs into their set, they've got the crowd on their feet with 'In My Place'. Their breakthrough hit 'Yellow' is also disposed of surprisingly early on and the audience are firmly in Martin's hands.
Martin clearly is so fixated with Bono that at times I feel like he's auditioning for a remake of 'Rattle and Hum'. Two runways either side of stage see plenty of melodramatic running. Indeed, it's little wonder that they played five-a-side in Shamrock Rovers' spanking new Tallaght stadium over the weekend to warm up.
An acoustic interlude takes the show quite literally into the audience. Martin jokes that this is the "Boyzone segment" of the night, as the band launch into 'Jingle Bells' and drummer Will Champion gives 'Fairytale of New York' a lash with 10,000 or so on backing vocals.
Coldplay haven't reinvented the wheel or even come up anything original, but you've got to give them full marks for crowd pleasing.

I feel like I'm invading the the threads of the last three gigs of the year :uhoh:
So we spent the morning going around the center, but we already decided we wanted to be at the venue earlier than the day before, so we arrived there by 2.15pm more or less...the place was desert, no security at the gate, but the weather was lovely so it was not hard to wait outside
this is the view to the Grand Canal Docks...maybe one day in the future the U2 Tower will be there on the right
http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/3182/01ye8.jpg
then a security guy came out, the same as the day before...and we went there and asked if the band had already arrived, he said yes, that they arrived at lunchtime..and I was like "as if I believed you, they never arrive so early", so we decided to wait on our bench at the other side of the street...wait...wait, till it was nearly 4.30 pm and I see four men approaching the gate, I look better and :stunned: that one with the green hat is Chris
I call him, but I guess my voice was not loud enough, so my friend call him louder, he turns and stops before getting inside..we run to cross the street, I nearly got knocked down by I don't know how many cars :laugh3: :laugh3:
I tought I would stay there dumb, not being able to say a word, but he's been so nice, he told us he walked to the venue from the city center because the weather was nice. He took a look at our banners, first the CoW one, so I took the chance and I stated I already knew that they were never going to play it, and he answered they tried it (but didn't tell when) but "it sounds shit" :laugh3::laugh3: I told him, well I don't want the whole song, I could go on with just a verse, and he replied they were probably trying it that day.
Then he saw the other banner, the one with "Long Live Coldplay and all their roadies (especially #42)" and said he really loved it.
I don't remember everything he said, it all went too fast, and he needed to get inside, I guess the last thing I asked was if he knew whether the others were already there, but he didn't.
And this is the pic I took with him :nice:
http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/271/02el3.jpg
At this point my friend started crying, I was hyper and couldn't stop smiling, so we stayed there to see if the other three were arriving.
It was getting late and some people were already arriving to get in the queues. We had to wait for our friends so we didn't move from the lucky gates, and two vans arrived, the first was a Mercedes one with black windows, we couldn't see anything inside but we showed our banners, on the second one, which was different, there was only one person, I looked better, he looked at me...and it was Phil, who read the banner and smiled and we waved each other, it was so strange
Ok need to get to sleep now, the rest is for tomorrow :nice:

OMG denise so AWESOME :D
Isn't chris just THEBEST?! I love your pic with him you both look great, and he's like really hugging you TIGHT :nice:
I have to say I called it I said: if anyone could get CoW played it was you... and well you got pretty damn close! you've made us very proud
*patiently waits for the rest of the story *
That's such a wonderful pic, you both look so great and happy...! :happy2:

Thankies, yes he was real nice with us, and my friend made me remind that he was the one to ask us if we wanted to take a pic, I guess we were already too happy to have spoken with him that we didn't even think about that :laugh3::laugh3:
Well I think Tony's review about the show is perfect, so I will only talk about our walking from one side to the other of the tiers to get closer to c-stage. As I already said the security guy was nice enough to let us stay there when I told him we were just happy to stay where we were, that is, the end of the stairs they were running up to from the main stage.
And these are some pics

At the end of the concert we slowly proceeded to the exit, bought a blue t-shirt with butterflies and buttons. Then once outside we walked past the gates and took a look inside...and two vans were still there, of course we decided we had to wait there.
Most of the people had already left when I stared again through the thin chink in the gates...and I see Jonny standing beside the van, I turn to my friend "There's Jonny!!", look back again and sat in the van were Will, Guy and I think Chris as well. Jonny gets in and the gates open, so we prepare our banners and show them while they drive past us to the center (to go to U2's Xmas party :P).
And that's the end of day 2

I've put together a collection of some recordings from both nights in Dublin (although its mostly 21st) and put them in a rar. At present I'm missing, Speed Of Sound, Chinese Sleep Chant, GPASUYF/Talk, Politik and Life In Technicolor II. The rest is pretty much full versions of most songs. I have each song labelled with their date too. I guess its the best thats available at the moment until a proper bootleg emerges hopefully!!
