OMG
I was last summer for a whole month (july) in Dublin (lovey city, in love of it) and 2 days before leaving it, i attended to Keane gig in The Point Theater, such a great and good old looking.
After reading i am thinking about coming back there and watch them re-opening it :D as i saw it almost in the last concert in the place.
I'd really like to attend to Coldplay concert.
I am already going to Madrid and Barcelona ones in Spain :D Sept 6 and 7th 2008.
Excited? OMG lol

Coldplay to be the first to play new O2 at the Point
British superstars Coldplay will be performing a monster gig at the revamped Point Theatre this Christmas.
The Herald can reveal that Chris Martin and his chart-topping bandmates will be belting out the hits on the stage of the €850m development.
In the first concert confirmed for the new venue, which has been renamed the O2, the record-breaking group has just added a Dublin date to their worldwide tour and will now play here on December 21.
And tickets costing up to €59.80 including booking fee for their fully-seated gig in the 14,000-seater venue are expected to snapped up like hotcakes when they go on sale this Friday at 9.0am.
"This is going to be one of the biggest concerts of the year and there's no better place to have it than in the new O2 building," said a music source. "It was a huge coup getting them to come over and 'christen' the venue with this one-off performance.
"They're one of the most popular bands in the world right now and promoters shouldn't find it too hard to shift the tickets," the source added. "When Coldplay announced they were performing at the Odyssey Arena, they sold out within minutes. It will be the same thing for their Dublin concert."
Charts
Currently riding high in the UK and global music charts with their fourth album Viva la Vida, they have enjoyed five weeks at number one here. Their reign finally came to an end this week after they were knocked off the top spot by DJ Basshunter.
Now on the road as part of their worldwide tour, they're performing in the US and Canada over the coming weeks then playing a sell-out gig in Tokyo and prestigious venues across Europe, before they take to the stage at the O2 arena.
The mobile phone company has joined forces with global entertainment providers Live Nation as part of a multi-million euro re-naming deal.

Hi guys, does anyone know the Pre-sale password?!! can someone let us know please??!
marcus_on
23-07-2008, 12:54 AM
i think the pre sale is only for o2 customers. because they have signed a sponsorship deal with live nation for the naming rights of the venue, all o2 customers get a chance to buy the first 10% of tickets to shows there (or a percentage close to that)..... then the rest go on general sale.
I dont care... i have two tickets reserved already and two for the second night when it goes on sale! happy days!
I can't believe this story that i broke got mentioned on hot press with a reference to this site and to the link to the o2 seating plans i posted! brilliant!!
happy christmas everyone! :)

I guess I'll have to wait for the general sale, hoping not all the good seats went to O2 customers, but oh well I just want to be there :)

Thanks Ian ;) That was an initial reaction yesterday. I'm a lot more relaxed now and I've got a lot of people looking out for tics for me too so hopefully something will come up. One thing I don't want to do is buy over ebay for some extortionate price just to make some bastard rich who doesn't even care about Coldplay or their music.

If it's the former, you'll have to tell me how those seats are, as I'll be there the day after! From the "virtual tour" at the O2 website, it looks like there's really no bad seats in the house.

Okay, as I am not very rational when it comes to music I do a lot of weird things ;)
I will come to Dublin just to see Coldplay live!
Problem: I haven't got tickets yet but I have the chance to get a really cheap airplane ticket and accomodation is also sorted.
Now I 'only' need one single ticket. Either for the 21st or 22nd - or even both, as I will be flying back home on the 23rd only.
Is there anyone out there who's willing to help.
Maybe you know someone who's got a spare tickets and needs company.
I would be so very happy if you could help me ... :)
You can contact me via PM :D

O2 FIRST: Boyzone
The very first show for the sensational new O2 arena in Dublin can finally be revealed.
The Herald can exclusively announce that the honour will go to the Childline Concert on December 16.
The event will feature a host of pop acts including Boyzone, Shayne Ward, Scouting for Girls, The Script, Alphabeat and The Saturdays.
The first gig at the amazing new 13,000 capacity venue that has replaced the Point Depot had been subject to intense speculations for months.
Glorious
U2, Oasis and even Britney Spears had all been mooted as being the first act to play the venue, so it comes as a huge surprise that promoters have opted for the Childline Concert.
However, insiders have told the Herald that the charity event was "a glorious dress rehearsal opportunity" to ensure that the new venue will be "up to scratch".
Priced at €40 each, Childline tickets will go on sale next Thursday, November 13, at 9am and concert promoters are expecting them to sell out fast.
Although those who don't manage to get a ticket will still get a sneak preview of the multimillion-euro venue with the concert being televised on RTE 2 on Friday December 19 at 7pm.
Since the first concert was held in 1997, Childline has benefited to the tune of €2.5m and the children's charity will receive €400,000 alone from 2008's concert.
Thanks
According to a representative of the charity: "Childline would like to thank all parties involved with the concert including the artists, organisers and The O2 Dublin, who are generously giving their services and time free of charge on this historic opening night of the O2 arena.
"Their involvement will contribute significantly to ensuring that every child who contacts Childline will be heard," they added.
Meanwhile Mike Adamson, CEO of The O2, Dublin said: "We are very excited and find it fitting that the Cheerios Childline Concert, a major charity event, will be unveiling The O2 Dublin.
"We are looking forward to the concert and everyone enjoying the fabulous new facilities on the night," he added.
Following the much anticipated Childline concert, Kings of Leon will play the impressive arena on December 19 while Coldplay will take to the stage on December 21 and 22.

Unfortunately, I got news today that I'm not going to be able to make it to the concert on the 22nd. Prior committments, combined with the nasty snowstorm here in the States, made sure of that.
Thus, I have two tickets available for the show on the 22nd for face value.
But, if anyone is interested in buying my 2 tickets, let me know TODAY. I could still do international overnight shipping today and the tickets should in all likelihood make it to you in Ireland by Monday. And I'll also send along the scans by e-mail as a back-up in case the real thing doesn't make it there in time. (Which actually does work, believe me.)
Thing is, if you want any chance of getting them shipped, I need a PM [b]today[/i]. Tickets are Block E, Row 32, Seats 132 and 133. Cost is face value, 132.30 euro, (exactly what I paid for them through Ticketmaster with booking fees), and say, 10 euros tacked on to get them out to you. Or I can just e-mail you the scans and forgo the shipping--and you can pay me through Paypal. You put faith in me, and I put faith in you. :laugh4:

I’m sitting in the newly revamped O2 Arena, Dublin. Last Tuesday, this venue was re-opened. Coldplay is only the third show to pass through. 8′500 people will pack into the arena tonight, and again tomorrow. There is only three days to go on this tour. I thought I was going to escape the strange illness that has been doing the rounds in the crew. Unfortunately, it got me in the end. I’m on the kiwi fruits and orange juice today..
Yesterday, I visited the famous storehouse of Arthur Guinness. The cobbled streets and darkened passages around the old factory buildings was quite a sight. Real atmosphere. You could just imagine the barrels rolling down the streets and a huge workforce piling in and out. The black gates through the streets guarding the special secrets of this ancient brew.. As we pulled up on the open-top bus tour, it felt a bit like Charlie the Chocolate Factory for adults. Sadly.. I didn’t see any umpa-lumpas..
939 people signed up to be campaigners (http://www.oxfamireland.org/whatyoucando/campaign.shtml) at the last show in Belfast. It was a good start for Oxfam Ireland (http://www.oxfamireland.org/). Lot’s of people making their mark and taking a moment to find out a bit more. That’s 74′125 people who have done just that on the tour so far. Countless more will have seen us there and hopefully gone in an Oxfam shop, bought someone a goat for christmas, or signed up online. Maybe even read this blog, to see what the tour part is all about. Oxfam’s work goes far beyond this paragraph I write every couple of days, from the road. It’s life-saving work, in the case of disasters. Working with local partners to help people out of poverty. Getting more children in school. Giving people the supplies they need, when they lose their homes. Campaigning to put pressure on governments to help people change their lives for the better. Those are the sorts of reasons that Coldplay supports Oxfam. Because Oxfam helps to give people in poverty a voice and a better chance. If you are coming to a Coldplay show (http://www.oxfamireland.org/whatwedo/campaigns-advocacy/events/2008/coldplay.shtml), why not come and talk to one of Oxfam’s volunteers, to see how you can use your power? If you are not, then, why not click on one of the Oxfam links, over there on the right, and see what you can do there.. sign an online petition calling for action to combat climate change, give a different sort of gift (http://www.oxfamirelandunwrapped.com/), buy Fairtrade smellies (http://www.oxfamirelandshop.com/catalog/index.php), join an outreach group, make a donation (http://www.oxfamireland.org/donate/index.shtml). Whatever fits for you. There are plenty of ways to use your power.

971 stand up to be counted.. and a few more.
It’s quite a spectacular sight to see 8′500 Coldplay fans on their feet in Dublin, singing the final few lines of ‘Yellow’. I came back here into the crew room to write, and heard a similar roar of noise at the end of ‘Fix you’. ‘Viva’ has just struck up as well, and I can already hear the chanting starting.
971 of those people, on 1942 feet, all signed up with Oxfam tonight. They all now have the chance to be active campaigners for Oxfam in the years to come. 2009 will be a huge year for Oxfam, and Coldplay as well. They will be back here for a massive outdoor show in September. Maybe some of those people who signed up, will be volunteering as campaigners themselves next year..?
There’s that chorus. I might have to nip out and see this… The seats are all banked up in front of the stage. Everyone is packed in together, all with a great view. Must be a fantastic view for the 4 in the band too. There is not a seat to be had out there. I’m sure the Oxfam team are enjoying their prize. Thank you to them for all their hard work. The completed sheets are all sitting safely here next to me. Enjoy the show!

Just back from the O2 and what a fantastic show! Never considered myself a huge Coldplay fan. Always thought (and still do) that their best album will be their greatest hits but found myself loving VLV so got a ticket when they went on sale.

Photos: Coldplay, The O2, Dublin
With just a couple of days to Christmas, Coldplay became one of the first bands to play Dublin’s newly revamped Point Depot. The venue’s rechristening under the corporate banner of the O2 should have been a sign that Coldplay too, are now a huge corporate entity. Having easily sold out two nights in the O2 and with a huge outdoor summer show coming to the capital in 2009, tickets are being touted outside for well over €100 as fans made the long walk down the quays in the drizzling December rain.
We had wanted to bring you a review of the bands performance, lots of audience feedback on the gig and the new venue but sadly, corporate PR companies got in the way. Coldplay are at a stage where they are worth so much money that they have people who enforce rules on the way the media can report their shows. The photographers were ushered into an area, no more than 10 foot by three foot, about 100 metres from the centre of the stage. We could photograph songs 2, 3 and 4 only. Coldplay’s PR company made us sign contracts to hand over all copyright of the pictures to them to exploit as they wish. Not really the sign of a band who are looking for attention at a time when most bands need as much press coverage as possible to survive in a troubled financial time.
After the three songs we were escorted out of the venue and as for what the remainder of the show was like you’ll need to do the review for us in the comments below as we weren’t allowed back in to see for ourselves.
Enjoy the few pictures that we have for you and let us know what you thought of the shows on Sunday & Monday.

Just a short post as we're here searching for them around Dublin..let's say we discovered where they're staying :D
Yesterday was absolutely amazing, the irish crowd is great and everything went smooth, they tried to make us sit but it was impossible and everyone stood up the entire time and danced on the floor.
Will singing Fairytale of New York was a real surprise and it was even greater listening to all the crowd singing with him (apart from us since we didn't know the words)...and I got it on video with Jingle Bells as well.
Setlist was the same as London except for the abovementioned cover of The Pogues, Chris sang also Back for Good at the end of The Scientist.
I was front row close to the B-stage but my camera sucks so my pics won't be all that great.
Roll on this evening...we're going to stalk them in a short time at the venue :wacky:

HOLY SHIT, THAT WAS PHENOMENAL.
I was meant to be in the flat seats in Block G, an area which looked like it had been put together at the last minute. A few minutes before the High Wire come on, I say to my cousin, "Man, these aren't great seats. I have a plan."
Two minutes later we're in amongst the majority of the still-empty flat seats, dead centre, seven rows back from the stage.
So The High Wire come on. I have their album by now (picked it up at the merch stall - a snip at €7), and am impressed by them. They remind me of early Puressence.
15 mins after The High Wire go off, Jon Hopkins comes on, aka One Man, His Macs, And A Massive Screen. I recognised a few of his songs - from his third album, called Insides, due out in March. The massive screen, meanwhile, was showing the weirdest animated film I have EVER seen. For half an hour, everyone's talking amongst themselves. Then, as the credits roll, the applause starts. He got an amazingly good reception from us down at the front, even though for most of his set we were like "WTF?"
He then goes back to DJing as equipment checks get underway. The place is buzzing now, and we are on tenterhooks for 20 minutes. Then a familiar classical piece comes on. I'm like, "Yup, that's it."
The lights go down, and the Jon Hopkins sample at the beginning of Life In Technicolour begins to play. The crowd just erupts, and I have butterflies in my stomach at this point - the ohfuckmethisisgoingtobeamazing kind. I get told to sit down by some random woman who chose not to get to her feet. She's changed her mind by the time Violet Hill starts though, standing up, as we all are, our seats forgotten.
Yellow was a partcular highlight, what with balloons and confetti and whatnot. I get an elbow in the mouth from the guy sitting next to me, trying hard to catch one of those balloons. That was fun.
42 and Fix You get astonishingly good receptions. Then suddenly we're all clapping as the opening notes of Strawberry Swing are played. I'm like, oh, fuck yes. This was always going to be the highlight of my night, and it was astonishing. Such a good live song.
Then off they go the b-stage, where they play a techno version of God Put A Smile Upon Your Face, segueing it into Talk. That went down quite well, and I videoed the whole thing. It turned out shit, though.
Chris is then left on his own at the piano. He plays the Hardest Part, which goes down really well, and I get a good pic of him. Postcards From Far Away follows, and it seems to me that not many people recognise it. I'm like "Have you lot not bought Prospekt's March?"
Nobody has ANY trouble recognising the next song though. Viva La Vida gets the best reception of the night. As the song ends, the audience keep singing the refrain, then Coldplay, the sneaky bastards, surprise us by launching into Lost! without any warning. I was wondering how it'd go down live. It was brilliant.
Off to the b-stage again then. Or so I think. They go past it. I ask my cousin where the fuck they're off to. Then I spot a stage. Hello, acoustic set.
Green Eyes gets a very good reception from me, as it had never been one of my favourites on A Rush Of Blood To The Head up until recently.
The lads then decide to get festive, with acoustic renditions of Jingle Bells, and - get this - Fairytale Of New York by The Pogues, which I cannot believe they pulled off, it was acetastic.
That Viva La Vida remix plays over the PA. I'm like, oooh, encore coming.
Politik was immense. I loved the lighting, and got a video of Jonny doing his thing near the end of the song.
Lovers In Japan? It was all about the butterfly confetti. I got around 100 pieces. My cousin got 400, which I suppose is well possible when your jumper has pockets. The video for this song was, erm, interesting.
Death And All His Friends is next. I overhear some randomer near me saying, "What song's this?". I laugh. As the song explodes into life, a VIVA banner unfurls itself at the back of the stage. The guys take a bow, and I see some of the roadies taking away a few props. Everyone else has got the right idea though, and we start making serious noise.
Cue a second encore of The Scientist and another Prospekt's March Track, Life in Technicolor ii, which, again, most people fail to recognise. I could swear I was the only one in a group of 50 singing along.
The lights come back up, and people start to make their way out of the venue, as The Escapist plays over the PA. Once we're outside, I ask my cousin what he thought of the gig. He replied, "It was epic."
What an awesome show.
It was, indeed, such a perfect day.

Ah, I'm getting confused about the vids I got - I didn't get one of Jonny doing his thing, sorry.
Some random pics that came out reasonably well are on their way, including one of Chris doing his thing at the piano, and some shots of The High Wire.

Review and pics coming after Christmas
Denise
26-12-2008, 08:40 PM
Ok so let's starts with the first review.
I had the flight to Dublin at 10.10 in the morning but I just put my foot inside the departure hall when I realised it had been delayed..well, that's a good start I thought, but at least there was no fog so the flight was not risking to be cancelled (which is not that uncommon).
We arrived in Dublin one hour later than scheduled, welcome by the typical irish weather: grey clouds, wind and a bit of rain, not the best to wait outside the venue :laugh3: :laugh3:
Anyway, we took a bus to the city center, tryig to find our flat then met with another friend who was coming with another flight from Milan, left the luggage and we were ready to head to the O2 Arena. We arrived there a bit "late", around 4.30pm, and took a look around to understand where our entrances were (I had entrance 3, she had entrance 1) and where the band could arrive. It was still raining, but it was not too cold, we didn't want to walk back to the center so we waited outside on a bench on the other side of the street, saw a few vans and cars going inside but the security told us they were already in :(
At 6.30 people started to get in the queue, we waited for our other two friends to arrive and decided we were to meet somewhere inside. Organisation at the O2 was perfect :)
Once inside I found where the Oxfam stall was and look who's there...Pete :nice:, I introduced myself and told him he's really famous here at coldplaying, but he was talking with a girl from Oxfam so I didn't bother him any longer and went around the venue to take a look also at the merchandise.
But we were super excited to find out where our seats were, so we walked in and realised row 5 was not really the fifth row, but the first on the rail, right in front of the b-stage :D
Here's some pics of the O2 outside and inside

Denise
26-12-2008, 10:48 PM
But I came back home only two days ago :disappointed:...I guess everyone is still partying, eating and drinking for Xmas
back on the review
The High Wire came on stage short after, and must say I really enjoyed them...opposite reaction for Jon Hopkins, but I already saw him in Barcelona so I knew what to expect and warned the others about his kind of music and imagery
The stage had a strange set up, it didn't occupy the whole length of the arena, so on the two sides you could see all the instruments cases and roadies going back and forth, and I spied Miller with a light on his head like the ones used by miners :laugh3:
On to the show, Jay-Z's song was played, The Blue Danube and then lights off..they came out with sparklers, a surprise for me as I hadn't followed the previous UK shows reviews since I didn't want spoilers.
Life in Technicolor is perfect as usual as intro, then when Violet Hill kicked in people started standing up (I was already, I can't help it), though most of the arena was still stead, only when Chris told there was no need to stay seated everyone raised up ad were totally into it.
Loving lasers during Clocks, it's always great to listen and sing along to, then In my place, which I didn't remember was so early in the setlist..not much ramp of love action tough :)

Haha about Jon Hopkins  had the same reaction.. first time, I stayed and 'listened' to his whole set.. second time I ran outside :laugh3:
I hate it when Chris has to make that kind of comments about people who should stand up  he shouldnt have to !
 next part please !
Carlaatje
26-12-2008, 11:32 PM
Loving the review so far denise
Denise
26-12-2008, 11:36 PM
I must say Jon's images are quite intriguing though, I mean you stay there staring at the screen as if on an acid trip..or what I always tought and acid trip would look like :laugh3: :laugh3:
Ok then, Speed of Sound...magic balls in action
http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/3357/10pg6.jpg
Then lights on and Chirs starts talking, making a challenge between Jonny and Guy and who between men and women could scream louder for each of them before playing Yellow, which I have on video but I can't seem to be able to copy it from the camera to my pc  But it was absolutely great, I'm so glad the yellow ballons are back, more than ever
Well you know the setlist, it was time for Chinese Sleep Chant, 42 and Fix You (sung by the audience from beginning to end)

http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/3727/14yj7.jpg
http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/4291/15lq4.jpg
then Strawberry Swing, which I love especially for the "it's such a perfect day verse", it just suits so well when you go to a Coldplay gig :nice: it was great that everyone startes clapping before they were hinted to do so
http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/5924/16px7.jpg
And time for the B-stage
I must say I've never been a big fan of the new God put a smile and Talk dance versions, but I learnt to get used to it..though I would never complain should they decide to play them the classic way.
Since they were so close we took out our Italian flag (which I doubt they recognised since it was a bit dark and it's not so different from the irish one :laugh3:) and , of course, the CoW banner, which Guy saw but I didn't get the meaning of his look, or it was just a sign of approvation, I'm not sure..well, I thought, at least he saw it
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/3807/17ri6.jpg
http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/7505/18jy7.jpg
Chris on piano for The Hardest Part, really loving this version, it made me appreciate it more..straight to Postcards from Far Away

Hey Carla, how are you? hope you enjoyed Xmas :nice:
I'm good :D
enjoying the lovely Xmas presents you;ve brought us :wideeyed:
what about you? did you catch up on sleep during the xmas days?
Denise
27-12-2008, 12:48 AM
Yess I've slept a lot these past two days, the trip was great but a bit tiring, especially going back from Belfast to Dublin in the middle of the night, getting back to flat and find out an alarm going on that no one cared to stop, I woke up in the morning and it was still on :dozey:
and the presents are not over yet :D
Denise
27-12-2008, 12:58 AM
And then it's time for what has become their hymn..Viva la Vida, funfuckingtastic, the audience went completely nuts, on the floor section people were dancing everywhere, and the tiers where trembling with everyone jumping, and at the end of song Chris sat down to watch us singing
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/686/20ik6.jpg
(sorry for blurryness but you get what I'm talking about)
Lost! as always is way better live..and I'm actually curious to see if they're playing the + version at Wembley :P
Then they run up straight to the C-stage where as you may know, after playing Green Eyes and Jingle Bells, Will sang Fairytale of New York, which as I already said was amazing, I was only sad I didn't know the words, because I guess there was really no one in the venue who was not singing along. Again I have this on video but it refuses to work on my pc :bigcry:
Funny thing: it was named Farewell to New York on the setlist :laugh3::laugh3::laugh3:
http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/3069/21ie7.jpg
http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/9592/22sf7.jpg
During Viva la Vida remix people sang along the chorus till they came out again on the main stage to play a great three-songs set: Politik, which is my favourite song ever by them , Lovers in Japan, which is climbing up my Coldplay top ten list (once again all the butterflies were incredible) and Death and All His Friends

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/3175/28hr2.jpg
and it was goodbye
http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/2756/29am0.jpg
but not before playing The Scientist, which I'm glad they started playing again as it needs to be, full band not acoustic, and Life in Technicolor II :nice:
http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/1861/30ka7.jpg
http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/9188/31ss8.jpg

And that's the end of the first review...when we went outside we spied inside the gates but no vans were to be seen, tough after a while one stopped outside and I saw Bash and Hoppy get inside.
We headed to the city center because my friends wanted to find a place to eat something, and while some of them were inside me and another were outside because we saw some paparazzi outside Lillie's Bordello, and since every band goes there when they play in Dublin, maybe we could see Coldplay as well, but they were prolly already inside and just saw some roadies and random people entering. We also took a stroll around their hotel which one of the security guy at the O2 gave the name of to some random girls...and tried to lie to me when I asked if he had just told them the name
We saw one van arriving, again with some roadies and maybe Will, at least that's whom my friend believes to have seen..I didn't :P
anyway, right on the back I saw this sign, and I needed to take a pic

They were still partying at Lillie's when we left (around 1.15 am, that's the deadline I gave to my friend), I didn't feel like staying there with the paparazzi and I wanted to take a sleep and be ready for the day after :D

I've put together a collection of some recordings from both nights in Dublin (although its mostly 21st) and put them in a rar. At present I'm missing, Speed Of Sound, Chinese Sleep Chant, GPASUYF/Talk, Politik and Life In Technicolor II. The rest is pretty much full versions of most songs. I have each song labelled with their date too. I guess its the best thats available at the moment until a proper bootleg emerges hopefully!!

Fantastic gig. Very well organised as well in terms of buses running to the venue. Here are a few more snaps (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=13041&l=d9388&id=1031939104). Excuse the bad quality -- didn't bring my camera as I innocently thought it would be a no-no so used phone. So much for being searched. Kicking myself now.
