I will be there..row 46 to be exact, heard that was the last floor seat row in the arena but who cares I'm going to see COLDPLAY!!:D Anyone know what the deal with cameras is? Can we take them in..I did for the twisted logic tour in vancouver. I'm selling my section 122 tickets for the 30th show, please PM if you're interested, need to get them off my hands (or just end up going both nights)!! YES, I am BLOODY EXCITED!!!!

Really?!

I have tickets to the 30th and 31st shows and I was initially going to the 30th one only. But now that I know its Wills birthday I might have to rethink that and go on the 31st instead! It might be a better show.

MS-Ferrari, yeah you should probably rethink this !!

I also wanted to make a banner for Jonny's birthday as i'm gonna see him two days before his.. but then it's not the exact date ..

ACC is usually pretty chills with cameras.
I'm sure you can bring them in, the only time I heard someone couldn't bring it in because it was like a professional camera.

I'M GOING!!! IT'S OFFICIAL!!!!! I was supposed to go on the 30th, but the tix didn't come through. I bought a pair from someone here at face value. I'm in section 117, row 14. Great seats, IIRC. ANd yeah, the ACC is pretty cool about cameras. Don't wave them under the security people's noses, but don't stress too much either. Cell cameras suck, but nobody's going to stop you bringing your phone in.

The friend that was going to go with me (and drive) probably won't be able to make it, so I MAY, and I stress MAY have an extra ticket. In that case, I'll need the face value cost for it, but nothing more. I'm not a scalper, lol. I'll keep ya posted. Maybe I can go with a Coldplayer...but don't get your hopes us yet.

I don't remember exactly, but it's not going to suck, judging by the ACC map I looked at. Look for the albino 7 rows back...that'll be me!!

Yup theres no question they're good seats... I'm worried about how much of an angle there might be. I just dont want to be behind the stage.

My other seats are row 25th Floors for the 30th, so its a toss up between the floors and section 117.

TracieMorgan
21-07-2008, 05:55 AM
I think we might have to crane our necks a little, but with the way the band's set up the little wings to the sides of the stage, we'll still get some nice close looks. A Coldplay show with shitty seats is still great, so this won't be bad at all...of course, it's not the front row centre seats we had last time, lol.;) But I'm still glad I could get what I got since I have no credit card and was broke the day the tickets went on sale.

I'm utterly terrified to buy things online from strangers, but my gut told me this guy was ok, even though he's not a regular member here, and I haven't been disappointed!:D

^^Don't quote me, but I understand this is the seating plan specifically for the Coldplay shows, and that would make sense since we already know they have the little wings justting out from the stage, so I guess people are sitting behind the stage...odd, eh?

The first five rows are VIP... contest seating... and perhaps that random grabbing people from the upper levels and giving them better tickets thing they seem to be doing... The closest seats you could buy were 6th row.

THey're also the seats people from the label give out...that's how we got ours for '06.

Anyone meeting up before/after the show?
The faceook group I made hasn't had a lot of response, so we may as well talk about it here.

Hey guys ! This is my first post on this forum, and i really didnt want it to be like this but. . . I think i need motivation from some real coldplay fans !

Basically, i got tickets to the july 30th show, but their rearview seating in section 116 ! =(

& like, i would be totally happy with them, if i wasnt set and ready to get the tickets at 10 on the dot, and i wasnt waiting there. I woke up at lik 6 AM purely out of excitment to get the tickets ! and then, at 9:59, i started refreshing the ticketmaster page, and it denied my access coz it thought i was a machine (my first time buyying tickets, that too for my most FAVOURITE band). so i didnt get access until 10:02 and tickets were alerady sold out. . .

i kept trying, didnt get anything, and then half an hour later i tried and i got the rearview tickets, and i just took them irght away not looking at where they were coz obv i wanted to go ! and then next thing u kno they opened up the july 31st gig, and by the time i found out, it was sold out =(

and im REALLY excited to be going, but i dunno, at the same time im really disappointed, because from like videos online from their last concert at ACC, from where i sit i dont think i'll be able 2 c anything =(

sorry for just bursting that out on you guys ! I dunno how to feel ! im excited, but sad all at once!

I was in like 102 for a concert at the ACC and I was in the last row and I wanted to kill some people. I was right underneath the restaurant that is on the 200 level and they didn't stop talking the whole time and I came home with like salad dressing on me.

Great show tonight, but why so stingy? No encore! I've never in my life been to a concert where there was no encore. We all waited a good 10 minutes after Death and All of His Friends, screaming and chanting for them to come back out. I wonder what happened?

Just before the last song, Chris announced it was Will's birthday so he made us all sing Happy Birthday and brought out a small cake. But all that didn't take more then 3 minutes or so....

I'll admit tonights show was better then last nights (I went to both, way better crowd tonight) but I really feel like we all got screwed because there wasn't even a single encore. I thought after the roadies came on it was just to lead us all on, but looks like I was wrong unless they decided to come back on and play an encore for the security and cleaners. but i'll just assume they were tight on time considering they have to break down the set and travel to the next city. Obviously I dont know them personally but I doubt Coldplay would screw the fans over on purpose.

I just got back from the concert tonight. This was my first time seeing them live and it was simply amazing. After waiting many years, I can't quite convey how incredible it was seeing them perform in front of me!

They sounded incredible, loved the set-up of the show, especially when they came into the stands to sing The Scientist. And they brought out a cake for Will and sang him Happy Birthday near the end, which was sweet!

All in all, it was a great time. :D

Yeah I definitely agree, the crowd was crazier and more into it tonight and the band could clearly tell, but no encore? I was quite upset about that. Hardest Part was crazy, and towards the end Chris looked at his mom then tapped on his wrist saying it's a bit late, so who knows? Apparently he was sick and didn't show up to the edge, but he did go to MOD, and maybe they wanna party tonight for Will, 3 straight days of touring is pretty rough.

Chris was sick it's on the coldplay board... he had Guy take his place on the edge interview, but there is some questioning about this b\c he did go to an interview w\ jonny so this may have something to do w\ no encore

Yeah no encore was real bummer. He did hardest part twice, first time her messed up and gave up. The second time around he messed up a bit but think he finished it or almost finished it. Either way I was very disappointed with no Encore. But I have to say, the 06 crowd from Thursday was WAY better than this one, maybe since they were recording the 06 concert?????

Yeah maybe him sick did have something to do with it. I dont really care that he went to muchmusic anyway, because personally i think that show sucks **my rant of the day**. I did notice at times when he went off key at the beginning of the concert it kind of looked like he was having trouble singing. Plus it looked like he was drinking tea so who knows. For the first three songs or so he didnt look himself at all.

AMAZING.

I went to muchmusic. For anyone who saw MOD I was RIGHT at the beginning, they asked me a if I was a big Coldplay fan. And I got into the edge, and got jonny's and guy's autograph and told them that I was the 1560 winner. More in depth review to follow.

I was also really disappointed with no encore. But it did end at the same time as last night's, about 10:40...so who knows. Chris messed the hardest part up was classic. I don't think it was on purpose, i just think it's not played often enough so he messed it up.

My seats were way closer and better then I expected, so I was really happy. :)

Even with them not leaving the stage, it seems the ended with the same songs they usually do, so IMHO the whole "no encore" thing was probably just a function of Chris' illness (there are rumors going around that what he's got is a headcold and it's straining his voice.)

Also IMHO, in today's concert environment Encores in general are kind of lame. Virtually always, encores are part of a band's pre-planned set nowadays so why go through the whole pretense of leving the stage. I would much rather have the band just play all the songs they intend to play and have done with it. (the exception being two set shows which are mainly limited to jam bands-which I don't dig anyway for the most part.

-Ends rant about encores-

I agree. The only band I have seen that makes the whole "cheer for us and we'll come back out" thing not tired is the Foos, who have a camera back stage and show them smoking and egging the crowd on. That was really funny.

Coldplay Viva Toronto Night II: Pushing us on our Strawberry Swings

Two years and 5 months after Coldplay last rolled into the Toronto, I once again found myself back in the rigidly designed bucket-seats of the Air Canada Centre for their second of a two night stop along the Viva La Vida Tour. One of the great things about a Coldplay concert is the people. We all know on one level or another that Coldplay fans love good music. It was with little shock that the fan seated next to me was into such sonically pleasing artists as Radiohead, Sigur Ros and U2. It was funny to me when an thought struck my mind, going to a Coldplay concert is a little like attending church, except the people are friendlier. It was also a great night because my father was with me and he loves the band (what a cool dad eh?).

The opener, Santogold, left little to be desired. She sounded somewhat like a banshee in heat, and it seemed as though she couldn’t figure out whether she wanted to be Duffy or Beyonce. At any rate it was probably a little ridiculous to have an R & Besque (if that’s a word) artist at a Coldplay concert - it’s akin to having Carrie Underwood…well open for anyone. But I digress.

Before I begin the review, let me get the negatives out of the way. It was apparent that Chris Martin was struggling a little (he had reportedly been ill) especially with the lower-registered songs like ‘Yes’. but he quickly got over it. Lastly, I’m pretty sure I was more relaxed then I should have been, there was definitely someone smoking a crap load of pot. The cops were called in by security after they find a woman in my section completely stoned. Anyways, on with the good stuff.

From the sprawling landscape of the show opener, ‘Life in Technicolour’ to the victorious melancholic closing chant of ‘Death and all of His Friends’, Coldplay held strong. But what really showed their maturity and niche as artists was the techno-laden rendition of ‘God Put a Smile Upon Your Face’ and the always elusively haunting ‘Chinese Sleep Chant’. It was during these songs, and their corresponding stage-setups, that gave me a glimpse of what living in U2’s Pop-era might have been like. However the pinnacle of the night would have to have been when the quintet sojourned through the crowd to a little a area inside the crowd on the lower bowl. It was there that we were blessed by a thoughtful acoustic rendition of ‘The Scientist’ and a Will Champion-sung ‘Death Will Never Conquer’. All in all, the second night of the Viva La Vida Tour stop in Toronto was much like it’s studio counterpart, short but sweet.

I thought yesterday's concert was a lot better than the previous one although we didn't get an encore... Chris talked a lot more. During 'Fix you' he was like, 'this is your canadian idol audition' and then afterward he said 'you're through to the next round'. He told us right from the start that we should be louder than yesterday.. then later he said 'we have the best singing audience in the world'...or something along those lines.

in any case...it was a fun show...

With the whole e-talk thing-

It was cool being up close to Chris and Jonny. They're so friendly. One guy asked if his band can open for Coldplay and later he got to talk to Chris. I found out afterwards that this dude's band might be opening for them for a few shows in the states. I guess if you really don't ask, you don't receive.

umm...

We weren't allowed to take any pics inside etalk but i got one at the end because it didn't matter if we got kicked out... once i figure out how to post pics, i will...

Brit rockers Coldplay dropped by MuchMusic’s MuchOnDemand on Thursday before they stepped on stage at the Air Canada Centre for the second night of their sold out shows in Toronto. The band is currently touring in support of their fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, which was released earlier this year.

Viva la Vida was produced by Brian Eno and features a slightly different sound for the band, including Martin singing a tad bit deeper than usual.

After tonight’s show, Coldplay heads to the United States for three shows before embarking on a number of International dates. The Viva la Vida tour is set to wrap up in Munich on September 26.

For the record, Santogold isn't r&b. That type of music never even influenced her. She had a good set, it's just that he style of music isnt meant for an arena.

Guess what , I was just at the philly show and the encore was Green eyes , Excellent surprise and a gift because my oldest daughter who's living in Philly has the most beautiful Green Eyes . She's the one that turned me on to Coldplay and the rest is , as they say History. Now , 30 years ago , I saw the Rolling Stones at JFK in Philly , Foreigner opened and they the Stones were awesome , Well the guy next to me says how many times have you seen them ? and i said this is the first , he said get out ,i've seen them a couple a times every time is better . So they do their last song , and the crowd is going crazy . They won't come back out . So I say to him , What the F --- . He's says Oh the Stones never do an encore . So that was probabaly the only concert in my 37 years of concertgoing , that the big name did'nt come back out . So especially in todays world of busy schedules and hectic lifestyles , we must understand , that an encore is a GIFT . It doesnt always pan out , There is so much shit going on that I'm sure they were'nt doggin , It just did'nt happen. Such is life , And all the more reason to look on to the next show . I just saw the FOO FIGHTERS in Philly in Feb, W/ my oldest daughter that I mentioned who goes to Temple and my brother in law who made the Coldplay Concert with me . It was awesome . One encore . Then I grabbed tickets for the Meadowlands show last week and Iasked myself , why am I going to see them , again , I just saw them 5 months ago. Well guess what , This show was a copmlete Fire cracker .. extra Goodies" Who "songs , alternate acoustic songs and 3 Encores and just an all around excellent to the max show , So don't worry about what did'nt happen , Look forward to your next trip, its most likely gonna be better .. Joey..

The show was excellent ( no encore and all). I sang my lungs out, especially during DAAHF. The Etalk thing didn't work out as planned but I still saw Chris and Jonny. They were less than 5 feet away from me and that's as close as I will ever get. I can't believe the concert is over and we won't see them for quite awhile....it leaves you feeling empty. But there's always something exciting happening with them and their music never leaves your soul. Seeing Chris and Jonny that close up made me realize how human they are..no celebrity fakeness type of thing ( not that I thought they were like that at all but I had never seen them that close before)..if anyone gets what I mean. I love them.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the Stones notoriously had a great deal of trouble adapting from the concert format of th 60's, where the headliner played an extremely brief set (20-30 min.) to the modern length of concert. Unfourtunately, I'm too young to have seen the Stones until the late 90's when they were already about a quarter century past their prime. (though I must say, the put one an awesome live show for a bunch of guys who should be driving golf carts around a retirement village in Florida...:laugh3:)

Whenever I have a conversation with someone about this strange job I do, the question always comes up: "How do you keep an open mind?"

It actually gets easier with time. I've been at this music-critic thing for 10 years and if going to shows every other night has taught me anything, it's that I should allow myself to be surprised.

Sometimes you know what awaits. I'll be attending my seventh Backstreet Boys show next week, for instance and I can say right now that I will loathe every minute of it.

Sometimes, though, you find the evening's dreaded assignment morphing into an altogether pleasant night out. Which is exactly what happened this past Wednesday when I grudgingly stepped out to catch Coldplay at the Air Canada Centre.

I don't hate the band or anything and actually dig a few of their tunes, but I'd seen them before a couple of years ago and found them very nothing-special live. "Better take some stimulants," counselled a friend. Still others mocked me for being a nancy boy in love with Chris Martin. I was cynical.

Martin's sensitive soul and cracked falsetto has certainly won him his share of admirers. The sold-out crowd at the ACC was stacked with young women travelling in packs, all dolled up for their boyfriend and giddy in anticipation of being personally serenaded with "Fix You."

There was good energy in the stands, then, and a hyperactive Martin returned it in kind, dashing about the stage like a gawky madman and clearly taking his job as entertainer very seriously.

Damn it, I did kinda like him, and I was taken aback at how many indelible hits the band had unleashed on the planet in just a few years. I decided to splurge on a $9 can of Canadian and cave in to the moment. I had fun. I admitted to myself that "Fix You" was a pretty lovely tune, and that anyone who can dust off a song like that for a wife who's just lost her father – as Martin did for Gwyneth Paltrow – is soooo laid.

It's not all there yet, mind. Coldplay's live show still doesn't quite hit those periods of transcendence that I've experienced watching, say, Radiohead or the Notwist or Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – instances when the music just veers off somewhere I never expected and I'm totally taken out of myself for a few minutes.

They almost hit it on the latter half of "42," which started quietly and then turned into an ominous, spastic psych-out, but they're too stiff as players to cut loose like that very often. And they should. Coldplay needs to loosen up. Until then, they won't have their Joshua Tree or OK Computer moment.

I'm not giving up on them, though. I think they might just hit it.

The Etalk people "overbooked"..we got to stand outside the window though which in some strange way seemed better than being inside:). Some of the people that got to be inside looked bored and some were so happy. The people around me that I talked to were dedicated fans, it was nice to be around them!

Hey guys. Just a quick request. We’ve had feedback that there are issues with the setlist for this show. So, I’d like your feedback as attendees of the gig. The setlist below is the one I took from this thread the morning after the show (I’ve read back through the thread just to reassure myself).

- The talk video. Is it clear from the way this setlist is phrased that it’s a video & not the boys playing? Any input as to how we could make it clearer if not?

- The Hardest Part. Would both bits have been partial & on the piano?

- Chris played a small bit of Erik Satie's Six Gnossiennes 1. Do we feel this needs inclusion? And if so, where does it go if it bridges two songs?

- The Escapist. How would you log this? Its on the setlist that the boys have (as per the photo from the Philly show). But how do we make it clear that its recorded & the boys aren’t on stage at the time?

Well this is how I remember it but I did go to both shows so it might not be 100% correct, although I'm pretty sure it is...

Life In Technicolor
Violet Hill
Clocks
In My Place
Viva La Vida
Yes
42
Fix You
Strawberry Swing
Chinese Sleep Chant (side stage)
God Put A Smile Upon Your Face (side stage/techno version)
Speed Of Sound
The Hardest Part (partial)- on piano
Yellow
Lost!
The Scientist (SIde Stage - Acoustic)
Death Will Never Conquer (Side Stage - Acoustic - Will)
Bill O'Reilly Video/Thin White Duke Remix of Talk - can't remember what's playing on the screen - politicians I think.
Politik
The Hardest Part (piano version) partial - Chris picked up from where he left off last time
Lovers In Japan
Happy Birthday (to Will)
Death And All His Friends
The Escapist plays as the boys take a bow & exit the stage
No Encore

"Chris played a small bit of Erik Satie's Six Gnossiennes 1. Do we feel this needs inclusion? And if so, where does it go if it bridges two songs?"

I really don't think it needs to be included, he played it for not even 5 seconds. But if you want to include it, he played it in between Speed of Sound and The Hardest Part.

Awesome pics, especially the one with Chris surrounded by all that confetti ( no wonder I couldn't catch any:P) You're right about fake adidas though..how sad, such a waste!

I know I'm waaaaaaay late in posting this but I saw Coldplay both nights they were in Toronto and they were absolutely amazing.. Great mix of old and new, beautiful backdrops and unique scenery (big bulbs that project the band and images placed throughout the arena!). Poor Chris was feeling under the weather the second night and was really struggling. Ha! The hardest part was getting through 'The Hardest Part' it would seem. He forgot all the lyrics.

Here are some pics from the two shows:

Hey i saw Coldplay Live in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre in July. Great concert.
I was 13th row but they popped up right infront of us to play 'Yes/Chinese Sleep Chant'. I got great video of them playing, they were so close!

here you go enjoy!
