This thread is for all the coldplayers, especially the ones in the VIP pen, to post pictures of themselves, say what they'll be wearing, and say what's on their signs so we can all find each other on Friday!
I, Chelsea, look like this, pretty much:
http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/3529/cimg0100im7.jpg
I plan to wear a red VLV shirt that my friend got me at MSG, a black jacket reminiscent of the one that Chris wore in "The Scientist" video and on the 2003 tour, red converse sneakers, and probably a Coldplay pin and a Barack Obama pin :D
my sign will read:
"The sky could be BLUE,
Could be GREY...
Without IAN we'd be miles away!
Thank you, Coldplaying.com!"
in the alberta Coldplay font :nice:
your turn!

Hahaha, glad to see my idea come to fruition!
Well, I think I'll have on my Viva La Vida shirt from the MSG show. Navy blue, with the big painted "Viva La Vida" on the front. So goes the plan right now anyway! And I'll also be with my friend, known as "the brute from Beirut." And with only that description, you'll probably be able to pick him out very easily.
And Chelsea, I was going to post a picture of me with Barack Obama after reading about your pin, but I don't think it does my good looks justice. :laugh4: So here's another instead:

:embarassed: care to tell me how to post a picture?
First, get the URL for the picture. Like for example, http://www.yoursite.com/yourpicture.jpg -- then, take that URL and put it in IMG tags. So just post *YOUR URL HERE*
Hopefully will work for you!
ApproximatelyInfinite
26-06-2008, 06:17 AM
tim, if it's one from facebook or somewhere, just right-click the picture, select "properties," then copy the URL in the window that opens. then paste the URL here between the tags
insertURLhere
without those spaces :D
i'll be with a tallish guy, my brother, probably wearing a black and white baseball hat saying CANADA with a red maple leaf, and i BET he'll be wearing a grey t-shirt with a scraggly guy and a fan on it, saying "I'M A HUGE METAL FAN" :laugh4:

Hey guys! I just found the facebook! thread :P
I will be wearing jeans and a hand-made jacket looking just like the jacket Chris has been wearing in all of the live shows this year (including the arm bands), and a white undershirt. I'll probably be arriving at VIP check in around 5:00 AM, so hopefully I will meet some of you there beforehand!
I'll try to save some spots, but I can't promise anything (I don't know how many other VIPers will actually be in the moo moo pen with us!) Don't be afraid to stop and say hello. I might be so excited that I'll hug anyone that is from coldplaying.com (Don't worry, I won't scare the sh*t out of you all... :P)

anyone have a hunch how many songs they are going to play. i have repeated reports of 2-3.

From what I've read, acts play 5-6 songs, but only 2-3 make it to air. So I'm assuming this is going to be sort of a Jimmy Kimmel situation.
Setlist guesses anyone?
I'd say:
Violet Hill
Clocks
In My Place
Viva La Vida
Chinese Sleep Chant
Lovers in Japan

This may be the best picture ever!!!!
I have yet to figure out what to wear...I'm sure it'll just be a Beatles shirt and torn up jeans (I don't have a Coldplay shirt :( ). I'll be with my best friend Dewey Dewizzle 'the Wiz' who will be MUCH more noticeable than I am. We're taking the bus from Chinatown in D.C. to N.Y. tonight at 11:45 p.m. We should get up there around 4 a.m. From there, we'll just head over to the meeting place! I'd post a pic but I'm a bit confused as to how to do so......um...uh......yeah!

when Springsteen played the Plaza not too long ago... the man played on and on and on...... during the soundcheck, then again at showtime.... he practically gave everyone there 2 shows!!
I agree on the broadcast though..... maybe 2-3 songs tops... but for those of us whowill be there from the wee hours of the morning... it could be about 6-8, maybe no more than 10?? (including the soundcheck) lets be optimistic... positive vibes attract positive energy :)

My friend who has been there twice before told me that Sting played 5 songs and Springsteen played 7, if that counts for anything.
Definitely not just 2 though. Perhaps 2 on air, but more than that live.

it says 7am on coldplay.com and i believe on the today show's website. why have us check in no later than 6:30am if they aren't playing until 8:30am?
ericsjones
26-06-2008, 04:59 PM
its gotta be 7. then they tape it, then they pick when the play it on the show...unfortunately i wont be checking in since i didnt win...thought my story was a lock...i was wrong

the today show STARTS at 7, so they won't be starting to play then, i don't think. well, they might, but i would think the noise of them playing would interfere with them doing the headline news and top stories.
i'm thinking 8:30 AM start. they want us to be there by 6:30 so we'll be in place by 7 when the show starts, and we can all be screaming at the opening of the show. that's the whole point of this special pen, after all: getting the biggest freaks and screamers up front so the today show looks good :D

so i think i convinced my friend to leave a couple hours earlier than she wanted to... i dont think itll be enough for front row anymore, but i'll be happy anywhere between the first and seventh =)
does anyone know how large the audience area is? width-wise?
ernestime
26-06-2008, 06:52 PM
For those inquiring minds ...
They [Coldplay] will be REHEARSING at 7am ...
So as we are walking in around 6:30 am ...
There is a likelihood that you will see what goes down during a Coldplay rehearsal ...
Then ...
At around I'd say 8:00 they will come on stage again to do one more "Dry-Run" before the actual live recording of the performances at 8:30 am ...
NBC "Today" show host's will announce the official performance at 8:30am
The band will perform 1 out of 3 songs ...
Then there will be a commercial break ...
Then after they will perform another song ...
Followed by a brief interview from Matt Laurer ...
A last song for the audience and there's your show ...
Have a Good Morning !!!
It will feel very surreal for some fans,
For others, they might begin to get alittle uneasy, standing for so long LOL.
jo_saw_sparks
26-06-2008, 07:03 PM
theyre not doing any other songs that won't be broadcast?
ernestime
26-06-2008, 07:09 PM
I highly doubt it ...
I'm sorry it isn't really a "Concert"
More like a promotion ...
But, knowing Coldplay ...
They def. put there fans first so who know's if we can start a chant up like
"One more song" etc.
Maybe they can deliver since they played us [most fans] at the MSG on Monday ... LOL
jo_saw_sparks
26-06-2008, 07:10 PM

The show goes on LIVE… the TODAY broadcast does begin at 7am… but the comcerts never really go on air till about 830a or so… they do a soundcheck (dry run) before the show goes on…. (approx 630-7a) In the case of Springsteen…. He never stopped…. He just kept going until about 800a then at 830a they had him on live…. What you see on tv is live, folks! Granted, if you are there in person, you will see more than what is broadcast… (i.e. 1 or 2 songs) so you’ll basically get maybe 6 songs or so?? Not a full fledge concert, no…. at least I don’t think so.
Butyou never never know… :sneaky::wink3:

Good to see so many Long Islanders, I'm from Nassau.
What time does anyone recommend a non-VIPer to get there and still be able to be in the front row? Basically should I leave my house now, or can I wait until like 2:00am?
That being said, I'm shameless and am going to ask if anyone with a VIP ticket wants company lol.

since it's going to be over 90 degrees, i'll be wearing khaki shorts and no jacket along with the red VLV t-shirt! and probably black samba adidas sneakers :D
i just made my sign! it's a bit long, and i spruced it up with some poorly-drawn butterflies, but it's a sign! look for the one that says "the sky could be blue, could be grey, without IAN we'd be miles away!"

It will feel very surreal for some fans,
For others, they might begin to get a little uneasy, standing for so long LOL.
Oh yes the ever-so-accurate (minus Matt Laurer* LOL), I am
I have loads of pics and video footage to be up soon !!!
ALSO !!! ANYONE ELSE WHO IS UPLOADING SHOULD TRY USING VIMEO. WAY BETTER QUALITY THAN YOUTUBE. WILL NOT COMPROMISE YOUR VIDEO QUALITY AT ALL !!!

oh. my. GODDDDDDD. :dead:
i was slightly farther back than i would have liked, so i couldn't show my sign and occasionally just saw heads, but ohhhh maaannn, that was soo fabulous. besides the fact that they only played...6 different songs (but each at LEAST twice besides yellow and 42...they played clocks FOUR times ) and that there was a lot of starting and stopping because it was live...it WAS a concert, and an incredibly intimate one at that for all of us up front!
this is going to be fragmented and incoherent BTW, but here i try anyway...
i got to the check in place at 6AM, which was fine, but i WISH i got there an hour earlier so i could have been RIGHT at the front. turns out all i had to do was beg a little and i got an extra VIP pass for my mom! so all three of us got good places, because there were probably 5000+ people there, 90% of which never got a glimpse of the boys . i was about 5 people back from the front of the VIP section, which is HELLA good, but being short it was a bit trying at times, and i couldnt show my sign because it was huge :P. either way, i got semi-decent photos, my brother got some absolutely KILLER photos for being where we were because he's tall, and my videos, while shaky, have their good moments and the sound quality is FABULOUS for a digital camera, so at the very least i got pretty decent audio of EVERY song they played...which is 13!!!!! :stunned:
(ok, most of those are repeated songs, from warmup, prerecord, and live, but still...LOTS of stage time!)
chris was hilarious, really really hyper and in a great mood. he talked to us a lot, and even dragged a little boy up on stage and let him meet the entire band becuase he had a broken arm! then someone threw a bra and panties on stage, and he was like "OOOOH, lost my bra there!" :laugh4:. all the funny bits like that will come back to me the more i think about it, but mostly he was just changing words to songs, forgetting words to songs, adding extra syllables to the lyrics, and making FABULOUS faces and dance moves. he stuck his tongue out at the paps, which i'm sure you've all seen by now, and did a lot of crazy-eyed  looks. ahh it was fabulous, and musically, i think they were at the top of their game so far besides the fact that chris mucked up the words quite often. other than that, his voice and the band were AMAZING. just amazing.
i'll think up more later, but right now i really want to solve my photo crisis here. yall need to seeeeee!

I posted my photos in the other thread but i was about in the two people back and somehow managed to get up front after the soundcheck but there were still people taller than me in front of the barriers which was annoying but oh well.
i thought they really sounded good and seemed really happy. in case anyone didnt see the photos in the other thread here they are:

Chelsea was like 3 feet away from me the whole time and i didn't even realize until someone called her name at the end. :embarassed:
I wish i met up with all of you but i was in a rush to catch a bus and got out of there somewhat quickly.
But at the end i did get a pick!!!! :D
It was really good. 42 and lost! were the best, but that isn't because the others were bad cuz they weren't at all.
I was watching it on tv cuz my mom recorded it and i didn't realize that they only played a bit of in my place. that sucks. Also clocks in person was different. we couldn't hear the piano at the beginning for like 15 to 20 seconds but on tv you could. wierd.
Ann Curry and meredith whatever (the other today show host) accidently kissed or something like that. that was pretty funny:lol:.
And if you pause the screen the first time al roker did whether you can see my head in the back if you no what i look like.
Amazing Day! Ian I love you forever!!!!

ALL PHOTOS THANKS TO IAN. Because without those VIP passes, I wouldn't have had the time of my life!!
OH MY GODDDD, you got AMAZING photos!!! :stunned:
if i'd just gotten there like 45 mins earlier...ah well. i have NOO right to complain whatsoever :P
and i think that's my new favorite chris pic, that last one :laugh3:
i have a full video of every song they did, but i dont think youtube is happening today. i'll try my hardest to make a compressed file and upload that, but it's going to be HUGE...the folder is over 1 GB on my hard drive! :D
well, i guess THIRTEEN PERFORMANCES does that to you! i was STUNNED...i was thinking 5 songs max :P

the paparazzi were really annoying. they kept complaining cuz someone was in their way when they were changing the drums and stuff around. they kept asking for a group shot and they didn't get it. that made me happy.
at the beginning of the show chris says "paparazzi, i know we don't have the best relationship but its nice to have you here"

haha, those paps were JERKS! they just kept screaming and fighting amongst themselves...ridiculous. i loved chris's line about them, and i love how during some song (can't remember which), he stuck his tongue out at them for a SPLIT second, yet they still got it on film. loves it! :laugh4:
anyone else's back/legs/knees/arms killing them? i feel like i've been beaten up, standing that long and tip-toeing to avoid my shortness :P

*raises hand* it was hurting until i got home and napped. now i'm doing a bit better. but it was brutal for that hour or so when nothing was doing. when i was moving around during the show it wasn't as bad. but it was still bad.

I was about...third or fourth row maybe. Kind of fluctuating as people moved around. But being 6'1", I was able to grab some good shots!
And here's the video of the acoustic Yellow! Bad quality because I wanted to save room for pics, but it does the job!

oh MAN, i just watched the first performance of IMP that i took, and the part where he brings the kid up onstage is just PERFECT. he's like "everyone, this is lucas. his brother broke his arm with a lacrosse stick. come meet our drummer will."
HOW JEALOUS I WAS!!
and its funny, because chris is supposed to be singing the last line of IMP, but he just looks down and says "what happened to your arm, man?" in this really concerned way. sooo cute.

Haha...that's hilarious! Someone next to me said, "Next time I'm going to come with a broken leg!"
The show was absolutely amazing...they were pitch perfect. Even when Chris messed up, it sounded good. I can't thank you enough, Ian and Jen! You guys are marvelous!
I'm glad that I've met some of the other coldplayers, but there were more people in the VIP than i expected so i didn't meet all.
To others who said the crowd seemed lame....i guess when they air the show, they sort of mute out the noise from the crowd. Believe me, I would say about 90% of the people were real coldplay fans. they knew the lyrics to Lost! and 42, when each of the guys came out, people shouted their names (I'm not too positive about Guy, though). About 10% of the people were family members and friends of NBC employees.
I will upload photos and videos as soon as I learn how to. I am a newbie at this...please be patient, guys!

Hi, awesome pictures to come. SwallowedInSea (Sarah) and I got there at 6 and were herded into the VIP pit. We were 3 people deep and that was great but there were these humungous male non coldplay addicts who did not dance sing or move and blocked our vision hence the poor pictures and vidoes. What the hell were these people doing in our section, the dedicatied hard corers? Sarah is so tiny she scooted up closer and she has better pics. The boys came out around 7 for the sound check and were in a good mood and very calm. we were so close we could see Jonny's beautiful eyes. Guy had his famous camera and took a few shots of the crowd. they started off with clocks and i was dancing like the coldplay freak i am while the zombie non fans just stood there and got in my way. chris took and little boy with a broken arm up on stage and then there were the bras and panties that the girls next to me threw, but that was later. My pics are not that good from all the jumping around i did. I kept screaming "give me some shiver" but to no avail. the songs were amazing and was so pysched they sang 42, brilliant. Jonny and Chris jammed their guitars. Lost was fucking awesome. loved the beat and Chris's dancing. he really let go and got down. yellow was a nice acustic and the crowd went crazy for VLV. In my place was a great sing along. someone has allready posted the set list. some poor girl fainted next to me because, dang it was hot. chris was workin it cause he was a sweatin. it was totally amazing and i will probably think of other impo points but my brain is still not comprehending how close we were. Ian, I have no idea how to thank you for letting me see the boys in the city that you know means so much to me. I am still shaking . the videos from the today show are great and everyone should check them out. stay tuned for pics and vids

Well that was amazing. I came home and went right to sleep though because I've been awake sitting on the street since about 11 last night. But I did get in the section right behind the VIP section, there were so many of you guys, hah.
Thanks so much for these amazing pictures, my camera is awful in the first place and kinda died halfway through, so this is really great.
I liked how they had to go put on they're makeup after the soundcheck haha, and the progression of expressions on Chris's face when he caught those panties...priceless! Guy was so cute taking pictures with his camera. Oh yeah, and when Chris brought that kid on stage I was just like why am I not a 5 year old child with a broken arm.
I wished that Chris came to our section since we had basically been camping out for so many hours, but it was still so worth it. That's probably the closest I've ever been to them, and definately the closest to Chris as he came running down the aisle.
I loved the song choice too, I was sure it was just going to be new stuff, but hearing In My Place and the acoustic Yellow teaser was so AMAZING.
It's ALL over the news, every time the news is on, on NBC anyway, they keep showing clips and asking for pictures and stuff.
Anyway, very glad I went, hope everyone had a great time.

Red-hot Coldplay takes Manhattan
I thought that showing up at Rockefeller Plaza at 2 a.m. for Coldplay’s 7 a.m. "Today Show" concert would be early enough to get into the "first-come, first-served" show.
I was wrong.
The line already extended down an entire block. Kids near the front were camped out in sleeping bags, while those a bit further down the line, like me, simply sat on the sidewalk while cockroaches climbed out of the sewers and sent us jumping.
Those in the very front told "Today" host Meredith Vieira that they had been there for about 17 hours, which means they were waiting since Thursday afternoon. Now that's dedication.
However, once the barriers were lowered to let fans into the show, the intensity of the fans grew a bit testy. As a few middle-aged women skipped the line here and there, fans jeered. Some pleaded with others to do something about it, but no one ever risked getting out of line. After spending more than a night sleeping on pavement, nobody wanted to risk getting thrown out of the show by security.
From my spot at the back corner of the stage, I was dumbfounded by the number of people who flooded the streets. The entire plaza was full, stretching from 5th to 6th Aves., not to mention the many NBC employees who gazed out their windows of 30 Rock, watching the stage with just as much eagerness as the many college kids below.
Finally, lead singer Chris Martin and the other members of Coldplay emerged from the 'Today' studio, and Martin could not have been more engaged with his audience. He joked wildly and swore, laughing at how awful the sound-check went. He even caught a purple bra that was thrown at him by an adoring fan. Vieira seemed greatly amused by the act, but it hardly fazed Martin, who tossed it aside as just a bit of silliness. Once other underwear hit the air, he did finally take his attention away from performing, if only for a brief moment.
My personal favorite moment of the concert was when Martin decided he wanted to walk into the crowd that stretched from the back of the stage to beyond 49th street. Standing at the back corner of the stage myself, I could see his disappointment when the technical directors told him how they'd prefer he go through the front crowd.
Martin agreed with the countless fans stuck in back. The V.I.P. section at the very foot of the stage had apparently gotten enough Coldplay for his tastes. He jumped onto a back platform and danced among his other fans. The Coldplay fans - like me - who didn't have the greatest of views at the show appreciated this fan-friendly gesture.

okkk... so... the girl who fainted that a few of you have mentioned... that was my guest.
we woke up this morning around 430, both showered, dressed, got out of her cousins apartment by 515. took the subway all the way to 49th street in good time, got off, got to the today show by 545. i guess everything went a little TOO well. so neither of us ate or drank anything because we were planning on getting breakfast after the show. we ended up getting really good position in the pit like maybe 3 or 4 people deep. we saw the entire soundcheck which was amazing in itself. she snapped a ton of good pictures which i will put up whenever she puts them on her computer. then after the soundcheck she was telling me how tired she was and i was just like yeaa me too... because we had both only slept about 4 hours. THEN she turned to me and said... 'i'm gunna pass out' and so i took it as a joke and just kinda laughed it off and then before you know it... she was on the ground. she got back up pretty quickly and said she was fine and then we went to get food/drink and on the way out she fainted again and didnt get back up this time so she had to be carried into the building where she sat unconscious in a chair for about 15 minutes. then the ambulence finally came and as she was being giving fluids etc. we could hear in my place in the distance. then we went to the hospital and missed the rest of the show. it REALLY sucked and i felt absolutely sick about it. she's fine now and i guess it was just from dehydration. the only kind of good thing that came out of it was that a woman asked me for her name/address and she said the band felt bad and wants to send her something (they should send ME something too.... but she didnt want my address). so yeah that was my today show experience.

sigh
i'll start by saying that coldplay, as always was AMAZING. seriously i don't understand how they put on such an energetic show so early in the morning. absolutely incredible!
but im really dissapointed the people that got there in the afternoon yesterday were put behind like 200+ "vip people" (i know the first few rows were you guys; that wasn't my problem) who had no idea who coldplay were and were simply there because they work at nbc or something like that.
and being a smartass guard to 30 people who've been awake ALL NIGHT is NOT a good idea.
so all in all.... to quote my friend andrea, it was 90% disappointing and 10% worth it. the 10 being whenever coldplay was on the stage.

O my gosh...the concert was amazing! I had a great time about 6 rows back with my sis. As I told her, this was probably a once in a million yrs thing and it was awesome!! I too saw the poor girl faint who was right in front of me and i think i saw a few people from this board. It was actually a group of 4 teenage girls who were standing next to me and 3 of them dared the other to throw her bra and she did! lol I was a bit mad at this one really, really big tall guy who pushed his way forward and i thought he was looking for someone but instead he just plops himself right in front of me, completely blocking my view. But all in all, it was so much fun! I was enjoying myself so much i didnt bother to even take that many pics.

Haha, okay! :)
I got there at about 5:45, and met up with Christa, who is now my favorite person in the world. We got our passes and were escorted to the VIP area. I couldn't believe how close we were! Unfortunately, I am reallllyyyy short (4 feet 11 inches) and there were a couple of really tall guys in front of me. Fortunately, they took mercy on me and let me squeeze up in front of them. It wasn't like I was going to block their view. :laugh3: I was probably about 2 or 3 people back from the barrier during the sound check. It was incredible! I noticed Will come out of the building right away (he was the first to come out) and I was so in shock that he just walked out a few feet away from me and just walked up onto the stage to chat with the tuning guys that I couldn't even yell or anything. I think he was up there a good 30 seconds before people started noticing he was there (or in some, non-Coldplaying people's cases, noticed he was a member of the band :P). A couple minutes later Jonny and Guy came out. At that point I seriously did not believe what was happening. Finally Chris came out and everybody started getting really excited (I was still in shock). They played the sound check, and that was the coolest thing in the world to watch. I loved watching them rehearse and test things out, and it was amazing that they were up there on stage without it being a big production like it usually is on the tour stops. It felt so much more intimate and raw to watch them warm up and mess up and then overall put on a really great show. After the sound check, a bunch of people who had "connections" at NBC moved into the area between the VIP section and the stage, which annoyed me a little bit, but once again someone took mercy on me and let me move in front of them. It was funny, this girl was like, you seem like a really big fan and I feel bad that you can't see. She wasn't even that tall, but she let me go in front of her. :D That was so nice of her, and it made me really happy. Then the real set started, and the boys came back out in their revolutionary outfits. They started off with In My Place, and I was absolutely in shock every time Chris came out on the little catwalk that extended into the crowd. He was SO close to me. It was incredible. I took a ton of pictures and a couple of videos the whole time until my battery died. After the show ended they did rush us out, and I parted ways with Christa. I was heading back down the sidewalk until I saw guards putting up barriers by one of the exits, and people were saying the band would come out there! There were all these limos and town cars parked right on the curb there, and one even had a sign in the window that said "Coldplay." So I waited there for about 45 minutes (and met StephBerryman! :D) but then the guards took down the barriers and said the band had already left. I was a little bit disappointed because I had my camera and autographing stuff ready, but it was still an amazing show, so I really didn't mind. There was this guy from TMZ there with a camera who was saying he wanted to ask Chris about that other song that sort of vaguely sounds like Viva la Vida. I was pretty annoyed about that, because chances are he was going to be very confrontational, make Chris and the band angry, and ruin everyone's chances of getting an autograph or a picture. What a jerk. So in that way I'm kind of glad they didn't come out that way, because it wouldn't have been any fun if they were in a bad mood thanks to some asshole paparazzi guy.
So overall, it was an INCREDIBLE morning!!!! I doubt I will have the chance to get that close to the band ever again (at least not until the very distant future). I loved meeting a couple of you guys, and I really hope we can all see Coldplay together again one day!!!

Oh..Ohh...OH....What I mean is...ohhhhh....
Because: I'm so envious, living here in Iowa and having to deal with the weather instead. I did see the Today's Show performance...and the first thing I though of...was all of you...I was so happy for you...and "anyone" who was there...because if they didn't know why they were there before, they do now, hehe. I'm so glad for all of you...glad to you got to meet each other and, most importantly, see Chris and all his Chris-isms live, as well as seeing the performance itself. I'll say this...when he sat down, I wondered if "he" was going to faint from the humidity. Thank you to Coldplay and thank you to all of you for sharing your pics. Rock on. I'm dizzy, just watching it on tv was SPECTACULAR! I kept wishing I knew where you guys were, knowing you were there. No fair!!!!! Yet, YAY for you!! :dizzy:
edit: SPECTACULAR pics! Thanks again! *goes off to cry and pout...but in a good way*

Ok, so here's my story...let's see what I come up with since I think I'm still in shock and don’t really know when I’ll snap out of it. LOL:o
It was an AMAZING experience!!! I got to meet up with Angie akaTexasluvsjonny (http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/member.php?u=2760) and Mel aka melanieau , and Lori (I know I was told like 3xs your screen name but my brain is FRIED I’msorry!) and kinda sneak into their little group hehe. When I got there at 4:45am they were already there at the front of the VIP line, which kept growing behind me right after I showed up. If I didn't meet up with them (Mel was my +1) I would have NEVER EVER gotten the bleepin' fricken awesome spot--2 people back right smack in front of Chris w/ direct view of Will!!! So thankyouthankyouthankyou guys! :kiss:I don't think I'll EVER be that close the band again!!!!(well until I get an autograph, and then a picture, and then a hug, and a kiss, and....then get arrested!!!!!LOL) THANK YOU THANK YOU Ian for giving the passes...it was such a wonderful and unique experience that I can't imagine ever being topped.
I took some pics which, when I get some more sleep (I only took a 2hr nap after not sleeping for like 26hrs, during which I did 8hr shift at work) gotta figure where/how to post them. But I didn't take that many really, 'cause 1)turns out my camera sucks! and needs to be retired, 2)the stupid battery died RIGHT after soundcheck! wtf!!! and 3) I kinda just wanted to be 'in the moment" and just absorb as much as I could of what was going on.
I’m so happy got to see this up close&personal, ‘cause it’s so different than a regular tour show. The guys were all really relaxed, in a really great mood, and, especially during soundcheck—my favorite part!—so “themselves,” not the big stage persona that you see at a show. (Well that I guess applies mostly to Chris). During sound check I was just staring intently at whatever was happening on stage, even the little chats and looks between the guys. Will and his wonderful smiles just looking out at the audience; Guy taking pics of us w/ his supercool camera—I know he’s gotta have a ton of shots with me grinning like crazy; and Johnny and Chris chitchatting. I still can’t believe I got to see that with my own eyes!!!
When they came back out all dressed up for the taped performances, all these “very VIPs” (I think they were friends/family of NBC execs) got right in front of the barrier. So I went from 2nd to 3rd row...still fanfuckingtastic, but these two women were just standing there w/ their sunglasses on (it was cloudy the whole time) and it just annoyed the hell out of all of us true fans. Especially since right behind them and in front of me where these 3 little kids, and they then couldn’t see anything! But, I think I should be thankful for the annoying blonde in the yellow, ‘cause she served as a guiding point to find myself in the videos on the Today Show website!!! LOL So whenever there’s a shot from behind Chris toward the audience, in the center of the very front, find the blonde in yellow, then slightly behind and to the right of her you’ll see a not so blonde head w/ a big KoolAid smile bouncing up and down to songs…that’s ME!:D:dance:
OMG Forgot to add that I got a SETLIST!!! Very first actual band souveneir EVER!!!! aaaahhhhhhh! Now I just want more more MORE!!!! hehe
This was incredible amazing unbelievable and definitely UNFORGETTABLE. Thank you again to Ian for making it happen, and to Angie&Mel&Lori for putting up with my nonstop giggling in the beginning, and my exhausted zombie-like state at the end. Such a perfect day…

And just for the record for those who saw it on tv and thought the crowd wasn't into it...it was some kind of tv magic because all I could hear from the front of the pen was the entire Rockefeller Plaza going totally insane for Coldplay!!
A few of my favorite pics coming now...just couldn't wait to share them!

okkk... so... the girl who fainted that a few of you have mentioned... that was my guest.
we woke up this morning around 430, both showered, dressed, got out of her cousins apartment by 515. took the subway all the way to 49th street in good time, got off, got to the today show by 545. i guess everything went a little TOO well. so neither of us ate or drank anything because we were planning on getting breakfast after the show. we ended up getting really good position in the pit like maybe 3 or 4 people deep. we saw the entire soundcheck which was amazing in itself. she snapped a ton of good pictures which i will put up whenever she puts them on her computer. then after the soundcheck she was telling me how tired she was and i was just like yeaa me too... because we had both only slept about 4 hours.
Tim that sucks, i hope you're friend is ok. i'm sorry that happened

between the humidity and excitement and exhaustion, i'm surprised all of us didn't pass out!
anyway, to me the sound check was the best part! and hey, they did get her address, so maybe something really cool will come her way--and then yours, too, if she'll share ;-)
P.S.
I've FINALLY gotten all my pics, from camera & phone, uploaded on to flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/28069471@N02/sets/72157605856985645/). First time using so I took some time to figure my way around...and now to SLEEEEP!

R#42 blogs amid crazy scenes in NYC
http://www.coldplay.com/graphics/news_line.png
I had yesterday pegged as just another TV show all the way up to about 6am. Just as the sun came up, it began to dawn on me just how amazing this was going to be. I can't remember anything like it in my whole time working for the band. The first Jimmy Kimmel show in 2002 was pretty amazing, but even that was just closing down Hollywood Boulevard. Here, there was major disruption to traffic on two different NYC streets, in front of and behind the stage. There were also folks hanging out of the skyscrapers that loomed above us, trying to get a look in.
I think the fact that it was an obscene hour of the morning made me a little slower to realise how beautifully strange it all was. It was only when Chris did a quick re-write of the 'shoot an apple...' line from 'Clocks' in the soundcheck ("too early to be out of bed...") that I even remembered that it was still some ungodly hour. This sideways sleep-deprived view obviously wasn't just limited to me, as 'Violet Hill' came towards the end, Chris stopped singing and spotted a young lad with a pretty hefty bandage and sling. "Wow, what happened to your arm, man?" he enquired as the track carried on below him. "Your brother hit you with a stick?".
The soundcheck stopped and started as commercial breaks allow. The setlist went through so many changes that the final version was brought out (after at least half a dozen revisions) by Tour Manager Andy Franks, literally scrawled on the back of a napkin. More run-throughs were squeezed in and nobody seemed to know whether we were actually still rehearsing or live on air. It was gorgeous chaos, wonderful nonsense - and then it was over. The band waved, thanked everyone and ducked back out. Me? I headed off to find a diner...

Coldplay on The Today Show
Coldplay's fourth album, “Viva La Vida” premiered at number one on the Billboard chart and is getting high praise from critics and fans. The band was on The Today Show this morning and performed for a huge crowd.
Chris Martin: “Ryan Seacrest designed our outfits”
When asked by Ann Curry how they achieved such success, lead singer Chris Martin quipped “Well, we took on a big team of financial advisers and marketers and stylists and Ryan Seacrest designed our outfits… No no what we tried to do is make everything as homemade as possible.”
Drummer Will Champion “It's a nice gesture” to give away music
Meredith Viera asked why they started giving away their music and doing free concerts and drummer Will Champion explained “We'd been away for a while and we didn't expect anyone to have to pay for our music without any encouragement, so we think it's a nice gesture. ‘Here you go, have it for free.'”
Ann asked “Guy, you said it was the boldest and most confident record you've done. Would you say that?” [hands mike to guitarist Johnny Buckland] <-- :laugh3:
Johnny got a little nervous, and said “Yeah, I dunno… We just had a great time in the studio recording it. We worked with incredible people… Brian Eno, who's our hero.”
Bass player Guy Berryman added “I don't think it really sounds like our last three records… there's going to be a few surprises.” [audience screams when Guy starts talking]
Chris Martin: everyone wants to see our “handsome bass player”
Chris Martin joked “Most of the audience comes to see our handsome bass player, Guy. The music is secondary.”
Anne Curry concluded that “There's something real authentic on this album and it reaches out deep into all of us.”

Alright, here is my long story about my NYC experience.
It all started at 3pm on Wednesday when to my total shock I received an email from Ian saying I had been picked as a VIP pass winner. I had already looked at some flights but thought there was no way I could go. I have a 2 and a half year old that can't quite fend for herself yet! So, in despair, I PMed Ian saying to give them to another deserving fan so that someone else could go. Wednesday night when my hubby got home I told him what had happened and he says - oh you should go! I'll stay home and watch the kid! I was like WTF? I already gave up my passes!! So Wednesday night and Thursday morning I agonized about what to do and finally started sending out PM's to people on the winner's list. I sent one to Noelia (CookyMnstr) and she had already PMed someone else offering her +1 pass. But then - the Coldplay gods smiled down and I received another PM from her saying that the person she was going to take was in fact a VIP pass winner themselves and did I want to be her +1!!!!! I couldn't fucking believe it!
I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off for a few minutes before realizing I didn't have a plane ticket yet! DOH! My flight reservation email came through at 5:04 pm on Thursday!!! I packed a backpack kissed my kid and hubby goodbye and jetted off to the airport.
At midnight my car service dropped me off on 48th Avenue and Rockefeller Plaza. People were already in the general admission line and the Today Show crew were busy building the stage. I talked to a security guard for a few minutes to try and get more information and then called Angie to tell her I was there.
As I was standing and waiting, Coldplay's giant semi pulls up to the curb. Angie came down and by then Lori had shown up too. So we hung out for a while before going up to Angie's room to chill a bit.
At about 3:30am we headed down to see what was happening with the stage and to try and get a bite to eat. When we got down close we could see that Coldplay's roadies were there already and that the area was getting busier. We decided to go ahead and form the VIP line while no one was there. So we sat there until 6am when the Today Show interns came out and gave us our VIP passes. We were lead into the pen area and were all SHOCKED AS HELL when we got lead into the very front pen and that we were standing mere feet from the stage.
I went digging in my backpack for something and of course this is the moment Will comes up on stage! He talked a minute to some roadies and then went straight for his drum kit. He was smiling as we called out his name!
Guy and Jonny came in next - both pretty much going for their instruments with the help of their techs. Chris was last to show up - and he stopped briefly to talk with Miller before coming up on stage. Chris was in a great mood and besides saying hello he was apologizing in advance for how bad the soundcheck was going to sound! We thought it was great and they were all really into it. They set up for acoustic Yellow and ran it through once. Chris told the sound guys he thought it sounded terrible which is probably why they didn't do it during the show.
As Angie said we counted to three and screamed for Jonny and he got this really funny WTF look on his face and started looking around and then finally saw us all smiling and waving and then a big smile broke out on his face. DIVINE!
About 7am soundcheck was done and then we waited and waited and waited.
The songs during the show were awesome and Chris had so much energy and the louder we screamed the more he jumped around.
The people who ended up in the very front were not real fans which was disappointing but oh well. We were still closer than most people will ever get.
Additional thoughts:
The boys are definitely more handsome in person and even though we didn't get a chance to speak to them you could tell from just how they were acting that they were all down to earth guys. We didn't see any diva type behavior. You could also tell - that like us - they had no idea what was going on. They pretty much did what the Today Show people told them to do - otherwise they were just standing there waiting for instruction.
It was the most incredible experience. I will never forget my 28 hour trip to New York. And the best part of it was meeting all the great Coldplayers and getting to experience this awesome band with other people who truly love them.
:kiss::kiss::kiss:
They were asked to do the song again and Chris said - WHAT? We have to do more? What??? Ha ha...what a kidder:laugh3:

it makes me so happy to see what a great time the coldplaying fans in the VIP section... it still pisses me off that the rerst of the pen was filled with randoms instead of real fans BUT i can look past that i guess. im trying to concentrate on how GREAKIN GORGEOUS THEY ARE IN PERSON. :P

that's a cool shot of the stage at 4 am. On one hand, I am really mad for all of those who attended that some spoiled rich kids were at the VERY front instead of true fans, but on the other, NBC did give coldplaying.com VIP tickets which is a nice unexpected gesture.

Click on the Today show video - its shows the first full hour...there is a crowd shot during soundcheck where you can see the people in the front and then when Al Roker is doing the weather...thats where you can see Angie's VIVA sign!

I just posted all my pics on facebook!! I didn't have a GREAT camera, but some of them are pretty sexy. They get really blurry near the end...but it's impossible for the band (or me for that matter) to stand still during this amazing music. ALSO, I posted all the videos I took on my facebook as well. Hopefully you can access them. If not, feel free to add me as a friend!
The videos include:
-'Clocks' warm up.
-'Yellow' acoustic warm up.
-'In My Place' including Chris bringing the boy with the broken arm on stage, the boys noticing the 'We Will Be on a Strawberry Swing' poster, and Chris sticking out his tongue at the paparazzi.
-'Viva La Vida' minus the very beginning when Chris messes up...but you can see that on the Today Show's website!
-'Lost!' unfortunately this is just the first half...I'm still kicking myself for not at least getting Jonny's solo
angie, your pictures are awesome!!

show was awesome! I got there shortly after 6am, the line was pretty impressive. Chase was not in the lobby as we were led to believe lol but we found him. I wasn't as fortunate to be in the front row as I planned... but being 10 rows back was not bad!!! :) I cannot complain! It was hot, and by the time it was all over... all I wanted was water!!!!! The guys were great! I got some pretty awesome shots... one being my new wallpaper on my desktop! (ahh GUY!) I got lots of video... some of which I am uploading now to YouTube..... I'll post links as soon as its ready to go....
