This is the type of song that Coldplay need more of...a song that has fantastic performances from each member...the drumming and bass are spectacular...and its not based around a string section or a piano riff...hallelujah!

This song probably flies way over the head of the "Female Teenage Angst Club" that are Coldplay's vocal fan-base majority, which is no surprise.

This song has HEART and SOUL something that Coldplay need more of these days.....and its about SEX...mega lyrics that dont spout insecure pretentiousness.....even better!

10/10

Totally agree. Yes is my favourite currently. Chris' low voice, the lyrics (funny and clever) and the contributions from the others make it Coldplay even though it's unfamiliar. This is exactly where I wanted them to go.

I guess I'm middle ranged then since I can sing most of their songs better than Martin himself. I don't rate him much as a live singer though, his studio efforts are as you would expect as good as he can do.

Of course Martin is considerable more talented.

I love this song. Very "Coldplay". I think this is the essence of them, really.

Definitely a favourite.

I don't understand all the reviews that say that Coldplay hasn't stepped very far out of their box - I almost forget that it's Coldplay when I listen to "Yes" (and "Chinese Sleep Chant" too).

It's one of my favorites on the album by far. I love the twisted time signatures and the occasionally weird chord changes. And the introduction is pure awesome sauce. (Thanks Hotplay007 for the term)

Is it just me that hears a bit of Venus in Furs (by Velvet Underground) in the intro?

From the 15 second mark to 30 second mark.

Yes has become my favorite.
I still love to listen to the whole album, particularly VLV and DAAHF but Yes has snagged the top spot as my favorite. Like LittleWhiteShadow's said, clever ... and I love the strings.

Seriously. Kills the teeny-boppers of X&Y that we often got. It's a more serious song than those of the past.

YES! is my favorite. YES is probably the best song in this album.
The problem is, that YES can never break into the radio stations / music channels as a single.

I also think that Lost! shouldn't break as a single. I think that 42 is the one that should be the next single, altough YES!, Straberry Swing and DAOHF are much better.

Don't u think?

When Chris says, "Dizzily screaming let the windows down", does he mean the windows in Amsterdam where the lovely ladies advertise themselves? So he's like "Open the windows and gimme some women!" Or not? Just a thought :P

I don't think you are right.
I thought that part talks about a man who got caught by some bad guys.

This is my Second favorite on the new album . Only to Cemetaries of London ,which I love because of the way it rolls off the opening , Life in Technicolor. Musically , The first inspiration I thought of when I heard this song was John Lennon . I think of him every time I listen to this song .It sounds like something he would have attempted and naturally with great success. Now for the trivia aspect . Does eveybody remember what the word was on the ceiling at Yoko Ono's art show ,one of the first times they met , when John went up the stepladder and viewed said word with the magnifying glass ? Legend has it , the positiveness of this word is what sold him on this artist/lover . Yes

YES! is my favorite. YES is probably the best song in this album.
The problem is, that YES can never break into the radio stations / music channels as a single.I heard Yes on Sirius Alternative Radio. They even followed it up with Chinese Sleep Chant.
But you're right, it doesn't really have marketability, though it is one of my favorite songs on the album. I think they could play it on the radio and it would probably go over well, but I feel like they just pick formulaic stuff like Sexyback or Bleeding Love instead of trying something different.

My favorite song on the album! Absolutely stunning and I enjoyed the arabesque violin arrangements! The chord progression for the rhythm guitars is just fantastic!

Yes was one of the songs that made a big impression on me on the first listen, and has become one of my favourites on the album.

It's a refreshing change to hear Chris singing without his falsetto, and I think it suits him. The lyrics are also fabulous. :)

I like Yes mainly because it's like, the only Coldplay song about lust. And now that I think about it, I'm amazed they haven't really made any songs about lust before (mostly just sadness and a little self-pity) And gawd is Chris Martin sexy in it. It's like, instead of being made of atoms or something, he's made of sex.

...okay, that made no sense and it made me seem like a raving fangirl. Currently Yes is one of my favorites.

I second that statement! Except then it goes strange in the second verse about big toes and falling and shit.

Prospekt.

Haha, I know what you mean! It kills the mood a little bit... I think it might be about being punished by someone for the lustful thoughts or whatever; that's what it makes me think of, anyway.
Still love this song, it's always been a favourite of mine from VLV. :)

I love the lyrics in this song, fricken brilliant. The violin is amazing and the guitar bit at the intro switches timing every measure, making it awesome! My favourite song by them. (Today, it switchs often)
