The WORST song on the album!!!!!!

Viva La Vida or Death and all his friends is almost perfect except one song- Lovers In Japan, I just don't like it that much, I may get to like it eventually but I don't at the moment and I am VERY surprised at it being the next single, I would of chose Yes or Strawberry Swing.... For all the promise of growth and experimentation, Lovers and Japan is the song to feel most like all the other Coldplay singles. It's pleasant and a natural choice for radio play but certainly not my favorite on the album. And I too don't understand the hate for Reign of Love. That's a serious piece of beautiful music. Doesn't anyone appreciate how difficult simplicity is?

My favorite song on the album (maybe tied with Cemetaries). I really dig not only the pace of the song, but the constantly-changing sounds of guitar and keyboard in the background, especially in the second half of the song. It really brings a happy mood to this part of the album.

i like all these songs way to much right now, and i absolutely refuse to pick a favorite cuz they all have so many great parts.

but lovers in japan is just such a bloody brilliant song imo. i mean, the acoustic version just blew me away, and the album version ive gotten into after many listens. the chorus hit me cuz i feel the same way right now, with all this college crap going on. everyone's trying to figure on whats going inside, and im just keeping me head down.

I find it weird that they decided to put these songs together, because are the two songs I am consistently the least interested in listening to. It doesn't help that they're sandwiched between two of the ones I am the most interested in listening to.
I hope these songs grow on me, because right now I actually think the album might be better with only one of them.

I'd say yes or CSC are this album's "a whisper". Lovers in japan is the clocks, and it's one of my faves.

I also think reign of love is the one song that seriously seperates this album from the feel of AROBTTH because it's a patient song. It's not strictly structured, or impatient, it's the "relax, slow down, soak it in song"(even green eyes had an urgency about it... ), the parachutes of the album. I love the reverby effect and tingly percussion and guitar. Great chords. I like how it's not out to be a chart soaring epic, and how it keeps going for a few extra bars at the end.

LIJ is my least favorite too. I just can't get past it sounding exactly like a U2 song. There's this one part where I swear he sounds exacty like Bono. I can't get it out of my head the whole time I'm listening to it.... and I hate U2.

Some of the lyrics in Lovers in Japan are kind of dumb ("They are turning my head out, to see what I'm all about"? Huh?) but other than that it's a good song...certainly better than Reign of Love or Chinese Sleep Chant, both of which I find pretty uninteresting (they have mostly incomprehensible or meaningless lyrics, and get kinda repetitive). I wouldn't say LiJ is the best song on the album, not even close...but it's not the worst.

I don't think there is a single song on the album (or sub song) that isn't amazing. Lovers in Japan was probably one of the first to stick out to me though. Sometimes I listen to it and just focus on the e-bowed guitar and let it take me away.

I agree - Lovers in Japan is also my least favorite on the album. The noises in the background are really repetitive and the organ that's going on the entire time is really loud and unnecessary. The title is also really obnoxious to me. Though, I do like Reign of Love, so the track itself isn't a complete waste for me.

You know, I still feel pretty neutral about Reign of Love, but Lovers in Japan has steadily bumped off both Viva la Vida and Strawberry Swing as my favorites on the album, and at the current moment, I may have settled on Lovers in Japan as my favorite of the era. Seeing the song performed live certainly did it favors, but the song is just addictive in general and it fits any mood. It picks you up when you're feeling down, and makes you want to dance when you're happy. However, given my so-so feelings towards Reign of Love, I will always burn the Osaka Sun Mix onto Coldplay mix CD's.

So yes, over a year later, I have finally decided what my favorite song on the album is. And I'm dreaming of the Osaka Sun... :cool:
