Good afternoon dear friends and fellow veterans of the Brixton ticket-torture thread :D

I'm hopeful today might be our day. Debs was alerted on Thursday night, and it can't take more than a couple of days for someone to sort this out, can it? Her message yesterday was vague as to timing, but it takes a lot of mental agility for 'very soon' to mean 'Monday'.

It's all been a bit of a farce really, right from the start with the problems entering. And it closed so long ago, and still no word. The later they leave it the more people won't be able to get organised in time. Just think of all those precious tickets going to waste :(

Been writing any more songs?

I've been trying lol, and listening to Chinese Sleep Chant today, I keep imagining I'm hearing 'I'm waiting' over and over :D
On another topic, good and bad news for us Warning Sign fans from the Canadian interview.

The bad: (Chris, describing each song on A Rush, gets to WS) 'it's boring'

The good: 'but we're going to start playing it again'

How amazing is that??!!!

It would be my dream to hear Warning Sign :nice:

...the Brixton ticket-torture thread :D
Well said! BTTT as I call it.

Monday would be torture deluxe. And leaves just one week to make arrangements. But I guess I won't have to worry about that anyways.

As a journo I'm surprised the NME or other music sites havent picked up on this. Its bad PR for the band after announcing a date that people would be notified.

It would have been easier to just leave the date off of the confirmation emails and keep people guessing.

Its a shame.

No relief for us on the BTTT (Brixton ticket torture thread) then eh?

I'm starting to really worry that something's badly wrong here. Days late now and it'd surely only take a couple of hours at a computer (at most) to set everything up, unless there's a problem with the competition entries data.

It's baffling, and the longer they leave it the more people who live further away are going to miss out because they can't make plans/bookings in time. Some people are going to be really let down for no good reason.

Interesting comment Ron, do you really think any publishers would be interested in this? I would have thought it's only of interest to those who are waiting...?

There's time, isn't the gig on the 16th? Some ticket agencies don't send them out till a few days before. Plus, 7000 people picking up tickets at Brixton would a) take hours and b) be a bloodbath, wouldn't it?

Bebop28
07-06-2008, 10:22 PM
Bloody hell Coldplay take your time, I can't wait much longer! How long does it take to send out a few emails? Yeah they are leaving it a bit late for sending out tickets... I was thinking you might just have to print the email off, I've done that with other tickets in the past so it could be that? Maybe. HURRY UP! :) Me wants to know!

who knows. I don't know that I trust the postal system enough for someone to send out 7000 tickets 6 days before an event. with the ticket agencies, its not all the tickets in one go, coz some send them out months before.

As far as I know (and do please correct me if I'm wrong:)) ticketmaster send out all their paper tickets around four or five days before a gig, and have special 'arrangements' with the post office that ensure delivery. When a band's playing somewhere like Wembley that would be many thousands of tickets too.

I'm open to what you're saying Jenjie, I just can't imagine the ensuing chaos at Brixton!

I have to say this is crap. Why is it that the New York people know but us Brixton lot do not. I myself have just recently started a new job and cannot take a day off until I know if I am successful. Also, train tickets and hotel costs are going to be way expensive as there will be less than one week before the gig.

It is just lazy - I work in IT and I can tell you to sort this out will only a few hours work. I do not buy this rubbish that the team is too busy. They knew how long it
would take - so to say now they are too busy is just an excuse.

Good intention - free gig

But the organisation of it was just not good enough

I couldn't agree more, and I guess many many other people agree, judging by the number of hits this thread's had since Thursday. I know they're crazy busy but they really should be on to this by now.

Brixton results should have been announced FIRST, then MSG.

Although - there's a pressure for me
If they don't notify us on the Monday it will definitely mean I'm unable to go.
Which will EXTREMELY suck in the very slim chances I win.

This organization is bullshit.

My goodness, that's dedication, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I've just had a PM from a member from Eastern Europe asking aboutr the tickets. I'm starting to think there must be (hundreds of?) thousands of entries from abroad. If something isn't done very soon indeed none of these folk will be able to go, and the gig will be half-empty, or worse.

What the devil are they playing at?

Coldplay.com is back up and no changes. Anyone who wasn't reading this here has probably assumed they haven't won, and may have made other plans for that day now - more tickets that won't be able to be used.

Cobalt
08-06-2008, 01:44 PM
Yeah, no doubt there's thousands upon thousands of entries from distant lands also from dedicated fans for the Brixxy one (only US citizens could enter MSG) will be down the toilet. It isn't good enough - the Barcelona concert isn't that well organised as well.

I mean, what the hell? MSG's entrants are all US citizens, they all have a fairly good reckoning of getting there. Brixton was open to all countries.

Ridiculous. I checked coldplay.com before, it wasn't even down.. must have been only for you

Surely they won't let the band play to a half empty venue, will they? I'm thinking that once the band's due on people who haven't got tickets will be let in to make up the numbers. Considering how painful this process has been already, though, I probably won't be going up on the off-chance.

if they do then they really havent though about it properly....most people would have needed to take a day or half a day off...not many people would be able to do that 4 days before

5 days. from the 11th.

in fairness this whole thing has been a shambles.

the winners should have been notified on the 5th like the email said!!

even Debs said that they were never intending to send them out on the 5th!

Apparently they can. :\

Surely they won't let the band play to a half empty venue, will they? I'm thinking that once the band's due on people who haven't got tickets will be let in to make up the numbers. Considering how painful this process has been already, though, I probably won't be going up on the off-chance.

Well think about it... if loads of people outside the UK (and possibly even people in the UK) have applied for tickets but now can't go because they can't make travel arrangements this late, it's not like they can give up their tickets... nor can the organisers reallocate tickets so close to the event date.

I think the place will only be 3/4 full...

Oh and also, I know that loads of people have been unfair and have signed up to the compo using loads of different email addresses. What if they win more than a pair of tickets? They've probably either used fake names as well (in that case they won't get in anyway because of the guestlist) or won't get in because they'll have too many tix in their possession as you can only bring one guest (I think)).

Debs has been brilliant at getting back to me, it's been very kind of her. BUT she's not organising this

For me the allocation of tickets for all free concerts developed into a complete farce! Not only Brixton but also Barcelona seems to be so unorganized.

June 5th would have been short term enough, but now it's just one week to the concert and we still haven't got any news. Personally I hope I'll not win any tickets, because probably I'm not able to book tickets for the flights anymore. :(

Ah well, another day, another morning spent without any news...

This is really odd, what could be the problem? Why not send them out first thing in the morning? I can only think that someone in the States is dealing with this (which would make no sense) or that they are having ongoing problems with the database. The only other possible reason I could see is that they've outsourced this job to a local kindergarten...

don't despair folks. i've just recieved this very minute email confirmation that i'm a winner to see Coldplay perform at Brixton Academy on 16th June..Who hoo!!!

this is the first time i've been onto coldplaying to check the message boards to see if other winners had been notified, because i hadn't heard anything for both the Brixton and BBC gigs. Whilst i was reading the messages an email popped up.

Just stick with it guys. i have 48 hrs from now to register my tickets etc. I think they'll be notifying people until tomorrow.

all the best and i hope to see some of you there! OMG, how lucky would i be to see Coldplay at the BBC TV studios as well as Brixton??!! AND i've already been allocated 3 front tickets seats for the first UK gig at the NIA (after queuing for 3hrs!)

I'm also one of the new "lurkers" here. I registered a few days ago, just because I was curious about this contest. In spite of the terror of waiting for a sign, I really enjoyed the time I've spent here. You are all very kind and patient people!

At the time when I entered the competition, tickets from Holland (Eindhoven) to London (Stansted) and back were 20 Euro's each. A week ago they were 160 Euro's. I just checked ryanair.com: tickets are now 280 Euro's!!!! This means that, whatever the results of this contest are, I won't be able to get to London; this is far too expensive

I will be seeing Coldplay in Rotterdam in october anyway.

I wish you all good luck and hope that everyone in this thread will win tickets!!!

I'm from near Birmingham, but I travel a lot to London with my job. On Mon i'm in Bury St Edmunds for the day and instead of returning home, I', now searching for a hotel near the Oval where i can crash for the night.

Have faith, these things happen when you least expect it.

now i'm going to tell you something that may freak you out...3 years ago, i entered a competition to see Coldplay at the very intimate Round Chapel in Hackney. I entered via the old forum on Coldplay.com.

I won! You may recall seeing this gig as MTV live, it was recorded and you can see me as I was standing right in front of the band. It was one of those most surreal, yet life changing experiences of my life. I never thought i'd win this competition, but the night before (and this is for real) i had a dream about the band, but i never got to hear what they wanted to tell me, but i could sense it was important, because my kids woke me up and i was kinda miserable for the rest of the day over this dream. I know, maybe its time i went for therapy.!!:D

while there is still only one winner i have hope. simply because anyone could just come on and say they've won. Not because i dont believe the person just that it would be so easy for me to say that i've won too

That Sandi sure is a lucky girl! The only thing i've ever won was the signed 7" singles box set from coldplay.com last year, i'd happily trade it for a brixton ticket though!!

Ha ha, it's not really in the same league is it?!

I'm back, and nice to see they're following it through this time :dozey:

Did okay with the interview and stuff, Violet Hill, Yellow and Viva La Vida were played ALL IN A ROW

Although the convo went like this:
Guy: "Is it okay to play 3 Coldplay songs in a row??"
Girl: "Well yeah, why?"
Guy: "Well don't get me wrong, they're brilliant, but they're just a bit.. sad, y'know? I have nothing against them, but yeah"
:dozey: whatever

I just checked my inbox, nothing yet, and it's 10:15PM here so I'm headed off to sleep. I'll check in the morning and hopefully I'll get one. If not... well :bigcry: the last time I won something was when I was something like 7 and I got some Simpsons PC game but yeah, I never win these things... but fingers crossed.

One winner from CPing for Brixxy so far, I think we had around four or five for MSG, and that's 3000 people so I'm guessing we'll get three for this.

Hey Laura, well done and i look forward to seeing you there.

I'm assuming at least 500 tickets will be given away, that's 250 winners. I've never been to Brixton Academy, so what do you think the crowd capacity is in there?

I take it all these people who have applied on this thread with country tags like Poland, Netherland, Australia will be able to get to this gig if they won right?

Glad they're doing the whole 48 hour thing to confirm.

Also hoping that people aren't going to just accept the tickets anyway without actually knowing if they can make it or not :(

I totally agree. I didn't actually confirm my purchase of the free tickets until i worked out how i was going to get from Bury St Edmunds to London, booking a hotel room in the Oval, which I've since done and confirming the person who is coming with me can actually go! So, it took me about an hour after recieving the email to purchase tickets. Don't rush into it. Maybe plan ahead just in case, but there is a lot to consider. i do have to question whether those living abroad can actually make it. if not, then i'm sure those tickets will be released. which leads me to think the following:

- All the ticket winners will be notified today
- Winner have 48 hrs to confirm.
- Tickets that have not been confirmed will be released on Thur and then those winners will probably have 24hrs to confirm.

Do you think this is the likely scenario folks?

I feel disheartened......I know it was a competition but Brixton Academy..... *sigh* would have been the most amazing place to see them.

Last year, when there was a Bloc Party competition for tickets.... they secretly went on the Bloc Party forum and found the e-mail addresses of all those who wrote a lot on the message board and had entered the competition. Meaning that a lot of the biggest fans got tickets (not saying that all the biggest fans write on these message boards, but a large majority)

I know Coldplay is a vastly bigger band than Bloc Party, but still.....I think the whole idea of fan clubs and presales and giving the fans just a bit of priority could go a long way.

We live in a society dominated by greed.

That's what it is, plain and simple.

People have been chewing nails, checking emails and generally working themselves up for this competition. Then comes along some muppet who doesnt give a toss advertising tickets on ebay.

Its the ultimate kick in the balls.

yes, i totally agree. is there someway of reporting him or her? Its so not cool cashing in something you've never paid for in the first place!

If for whatever reason i couldn't go on Mon, i would offer them to somone on here, using some kind of democratic process, if possible!

Not that is likely to happen. I think the only thing that would prevent me from going on Mon is if something truly dreadful happened to me or my kids and i'm sure none of you want that!

Tonsu
10-06-2008, 02:41 PM
Well, here we are two hours after the only confirmed time of the emails to winners (many thanks to Sandi for that). I'm ready to give up on this one.

Sandi makes some great points about how they might deal with tickets that aren't taken up - i.e. redistribute to other people who entered. That would seem fair and logical, but unfortunately not much so far about this competition has seemed very fair or logical to me...

It's heartbreaking to see tickets on ebay. You'd hope that people who can't attend would decline the tickets so other fans could get them. Anyone who tries to make a profit on them is the lowest of the low in my book. I hope people will report them to Ebay and to Debs and something can be done about it.

The name issue I'm not so sure about. We had to give our names upon entering, didn't we, so you'd expect that to appear on the tickets to prevent re-sale. If the set-up of the comp gives you 48 hours to register ANY names then we can expect a lot more tickets on ebay I should think. And that is horrendous and terribly unfair organisation.

The email was sent at 01.27 pm (of today, 10 June))
and it says:
Dear Coldplay fan,

You have been successful in the lottery to gain two tickets to see Coldplay at the Carling Academy Brixton on Monday, 16 June 2008. You will have 48hrs from Tuesday, 10 June at 9am to apply for your tickets by clicking on the above link. Please note, there is a ticket limit of two per person.

Your unique password is: XXXXXXX. Please enter this when prompted in order to claim your tickets.

When you attend Coldplay at the Carling Academy Brixton on Monday 16th June 2008, you will be required to provide a valid photo I.D that corresponds to the name on the ticket. If you have applied for two tickets, the 2nd person must be with you on entering the venue. Failure to comply with these two conditions will invalidate the tickets and entry will be refused.

Doors will open at 6.30pm on the night. The band will be on stage any time from 8.30pm. You are advised to arrive early due to the I.D checks that will be undertaken.

I'm so happy guys! I can't believe it! I'm still shaking....
Now I just have to book the flight! My boyfriend (who is coming with me of course!) lives in London so I don't need the hotel accomodation :)

1) The emails look like they went out at the same time unfortunately.

2) You can't transfer the tickets. That guy on ebay should be reported to them and Debs or someone is going to buy them and then not get in.

The jubilation of obtaining tickets for the o2 yesterday all of sudden turns into disappointment after missing out on this gig.

I suppose its only fair others get to see them in a small venue after I saw them at the Koko for the X&Y album launch gig.

Although i did have to queue up for nearly five hours early in the morning to get a ticket.
