Which one would you prefer. Like, if they both resealed an album today and they both cost the same, and you had just enough money to buy one... Which one would you pick?

Or more likely, because I'm that obsessive about both of them, I would have been saving up for weeks if not months ahead of time.

I actually think that radioheads music all sounds the same... Its like one REALLY good song thats continued on into every album.

And the only songs that even come close to sounding the same are speed of sound and clocks... and thats just in the intro :D

I think Radiohead as whole is a more talented, interesting band than Coldplay
However
-I relate to Coldplay music more and listen to it more often, and I can listen to it no matter what mood
-I can't listen to Radiohead all the time I have to be in a certain mood
Its equal for me a hard decision. Yet I'm going to a Radiohead concert before a Coldplay one.

Yea i agree.

Fair enough if a band is liked more based on the emotional connection, the instinct, though, as that is what matters ultimetely, not to choose based on what is considered more clever or more popular or whatnot. thats silly.

personally i liked Coldplay first and for some time, but then I just got into Radiohead and since then I don't like coldplay as much. I mean they have some really good songs. x&y used to be my favorite album by them and i listened to the album so much, but now listening to it i can only listen to a few songs (square one, talk and x&y). I find that their songs are very similar.

What i like about radiohead is that alot of their albums and songs are different from one another (with the exception of pablo honey). I also think that musicially they are superior in how they compose songs taking them to the next level by adding many parts to them.

don't get me wrong i still really like coldplay, just not as much as Radiohead

Radiohead sometimes - I love their 'The Bends' stuff and a few things from their other albums, but generally they're a bit too weird for me. Still, what I do like I really like. Coldplay are easier to listen to imo, and I've liked them for much longer, so for me it's Coldplay.

Radiohead is a much more intricate and seasoned in their technique and writing and well, they are not even comparable in the instrumental talents they have. I cannot compare the two... not even close after seeing them live twice this past month and am traveling for another date on their second leg. Their stage production was the best I have ever seen or heard!

Coldplay on the otherhand, I like their stuff also, but they are still trying to stretch their musical talents and maybe they will become as talented as Radiohead one day, in a different style definitely. And as far as stage production... well, as of this day, they seem like they can't it right for this upcoming tour.

When Radiohead went out on tour, they were ready. Thom's voice is the best in the studio or live, it is strong...while Chris's voice seems to be weaker these days...straining or trying to hard, I don't know what it is exactly.

The two Jonny's... Greenwood... so talented in many ways, in many directions, and classical work is outstanding... if haven't heard, the soundtrack from "There Will Be Blood"
Buckland... sorry, good guitarist, like to listen to him, is stretching abilities outside lately...but can't touch Greenwood.

Yes, this is a Coldplay site, you asked the question here. I like them both, but in different levels.

Once again, a well written response and good arguments. Not just slagging off on a band.

What you said about Jonny Greenwood is absolutely correct. To be honest I don't see any members of Coldplay ever putting out a solo album and have them being near the calibre of There Will Be Blood and the Eraser.

Different strokes for different folks, but musically I think Radiohead is much more talented.

well said. particuarly with the jonny part. I mean Jonny Greenwood is a genius with his various musical playing abilities and also his composing (composing for Bodysong and There Will Be Blood are great). I think that Jonny Buckland is good for the band but I don't think he's really that great. I mean I remember hailing him as the Greatest guitarist in the world, but when you hear his solo's I find that they are more riffs than a solo because they tend to repeat themselves. that's why I find Jonny to be my least favorite member of coldplay.

After listening to this new album I think that Coldplay are heading towards a better direction. I really like how the songs are very different from one another and that they incorporate different instruments within the album.

For me I think the reason why I like bands like The Beatles (Help! and on), Radiohead, and Beck so much is that each album is different than the other one, which gives more of a variety, so if you aren't in the mood to hear one album another album can compinsate. I'm glad of the direction Coldplay is going and I think that they are heading in the right direction.

Radiohead, what have you done for me lately? Oh, right, you released “In Rainbows”- one of the coolest albums of last year. Yet it’s not the coolest.

There was a time when a Radiohead release was a shoo-in for album of the year. But lately the band isn’t as exciting as it once was. Compare anything off “In Rainbows” to “Airbag,” “I Might Be Wrong” or even Coldplay-template “Fake Plastic Trees.”

Radiohead has entered its “Zooropa” phase, while Coldplay’s firmly in its “Unforgettable Fire” growth spurt.

Let’s not go crazy. Creatively, melodically and lyrically, any Radiohead album stomps any Coldplay album. But that may change. Bands in decline rarely rebound - still holding out hope the theme song from “Armageddon” didn’t signal Aerosmith’s artistic Armageddon?

Radiohead became post-grunge’s first, maybe only, epic rock band, then banished the guitar crescendos that made it epic. But they still managed to make amazing, tech-y minor masterpieces.

Now the band’s filling in the spaces between epic and slight, organic and synthetic, guitar-fueled rock and Mac-made sonicscapes. Soon all those spaces will be filled in. Then what?

Coldplay’s success attracts armies of haters. And it doesn’t help that Chris Martin has that wussy falsetto, a superhot wife and a kid named after the world’s most prosaic fruit. But Coldplay hasn’t given up the dream of transcending today’s pop into timeless rock art.

Purportedly the band’s “experimental” album, “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends” doesn’t tinker too much with Coldplay’s established, superpopular, nonthreatening style. But there are amazing moments. “42” begins as a typical Martin piano ballad before crashing into an “Airbag” burst of jagged guitar and angry strings; salvation comes with a bright, upbeat, totally anti-Coldplay (and Radiohead) bridge.

From there the band repeatedly breaks with its Radiohead-lite formula: They pinch from the Beatles’ “Fool on the Hill” and “Lady Madonna” and delve into Eastern European melodies and neo-classical, Chopin-does-Britpop bits.

And let’s not forget. Every time you hear “Violet Hill” on the radio, remember what you’re not hearing: James Blunt. Don’t think there’s a difference? You gotta listen to “Viva la Vida” (or be reminded just how bad “You’re Beautiful” is).

It’s shocking, but Coldplay is one of the most dynamic bands on pop radio. And the band is getting more dynamic. That’s a good thing.

I can find Radiohead boring when I listen to Hail to the thief (by the way the idiot of gallagner said that radiohead sounded the same, wth he thinks he is? He thinks he is avery respected musician, they just got wonderwall and then went down). And I can find coldplay boring sometimes when I listen to parachutes. Nonetheless, both are great bands, but coldplay is my favourite because Thom's voice can make me go mad sometimes. OK computer and In rainbows are excellent albums, but AROBTTH almost reaches perfection.
But I think I am the only person in the world that thinks that coldplay and radiohead are too different. I see resemblance only on parachutes and the bends, but for example clocks vs everything in its right place, they're just different styles you can't compare them
