Just a quick note to thank everyone from this message board who has applied to volunteer!

There are still a few spots open for most shows (and some shows available for other artists too).

Hope you'll join us if you can!

What exactly do they have you do for the volunteer work cuz I am all for helping out. Also, do you have to be 18, or is 16 old enough? What if Im with a parent/guardian?

This is such a great thing :D Anyone have any real info on it though? i.e. age restriction/expectations of volunteers/etc. The site isn't overly helpful :/

exactly what does one person have to do when they volunteer?..oh, and do you have to be over 18 years old?

Oxfam America
22-06-2008, 03:50 AM
Thanks for all the great questions!

Because of local venue rules, we prefer that all volunteers are 18+. However, we'll try to accomodate 16+ if you are volunteering with a parent or guardian.

Our volunteers at shows like Coldplay typically arrive about an hour before doors open, receive a brief training and update about Oxfam's current campaigns, and then circulate among fellow music fans as they enter the building to recruit new supporters to sign up for Oxfam's email lists, which allow folks to take actions from their computers.

Volunteers will then get to watch the show, and as the final encore is played, the volunteers meet up again to recruit more people as the crowd leaves the show.

It's actually a lot of fun, and a great way to meet other Coldplay fans and Oxfam supporters from your area, not to mention the amazing feeling most volunteers have after spending a little time helping others in need.

Hope these details help.

There are still spots available at many shows, and I'll try to post a list of cities not filled up yet here soon.

Thanks for your support!

Hey Coldplayers-

Just a quick note to thank the dozen or so people who stopped by our table at Madison Square Garden to sign up with us and who mentioned they learned about us on Coldplaying.com!

I also wanted to let you know that there are still volunteers needed for upcoming shows in San Jose, Las Vegas, Chicago, and most shows from August on. Apply here: http://www.oxfamamerica.org/concerts

Our volunteers at Madison Square Garden were treated to AMAZING tickets, as we were placed by the band on the railing right next to the stage on Jonny's side during the show.

Hope you can join us at a show near you!

Thanks for your support,

Sweet! I can volunteer for Bloc Party in NYC. Thanks for the heads up. Might have to see what other Coldplay shows I could find a way to :) And its a great cause. Been a member for years now.

Btw - if youre reading this Oxfam - have you ever considered setting up a booth to raise awareness at Summerstage?? It seems like that'd be the perfect place to do that seeing that this year we have bands from all over (just had a day out with a bunch of bands from Africa). I can prob help you get connected with the right person if its of interest. I volunteer there as well.

I'm so glad that people are getting into this. It helps remind me that there are still loads of great people in the world :nice:

xNeverwherex - might you know of other organizations that also need summer volunteers? I'm out in california.. I've been having trouble finding places that are asking for more than donations  I've got very little money, but some extra time now, and I'd love to do something good with my summer.

I'm a massive neil gaiman fan btw (:

where abouts in cali are you?? and nice to find other Gaiman fans out there. I am sometimes in touch with Aaron Axelson (of Live 105) if youre in the bay area. as they are having lots of summer festies out there - there might be ways to volunteer. and have tons of friends in LA (from going to school at ucsb)

i know in NYC - each summer festival (river to river, summerstage, etc) all use volunteers.
And I highly suggest people in NYC to volunteer for some festival this summer. The rewards are so worth it, (free music - yeah some are already free shows), but you meet great people and feel great afterwards.

and btw - im in california throughout the year and always am trying to find other people to go to shows with (it seems none of my friends like going anymore - something about old age *cough cough*) .. perhaps if youre in the bay area we'll meet up sometime (for a coldplay show or otherwise) or even to discuss the greatness of Neil Gaiman. Ive met him a handful of times and he might be the coolest person ever! neverwhere is f'ing genius!

Hey Coldplayers-

Good questions & comments!

As far as when you'll hear from us...we'll let you know either way approximately 10-14 days before the show you applied to.

And to xneverwherex, we just worked at Summerstage in NYC this past Thursday, as we were invited by Thievery Corporation on their recent tour. We really did well there, but I don't think any other bands we are affiliated with will be there for the rest of the season, so that may have been our only show there this year. If you've got connections you'd like to share for that venue, shoot me a PM.

I'm thrilled to see discussion about volunteering for us and other organizations! Even if you can't make it to a show with us, please try and volunteer somewhere. It's a great feeling, and usually a great time, too.

Thanks for the great info! How is the response so far? Is this go round more centered on Oxfam as a whole, or is the central campaign (for Coldplay at least) still Make Trade Fair? The response has been pretty great so far, especially from readers of this board. On this tour, our outreach is centered on letting people know about Oxfam's missions in general and what we do (http://www.oxfamamerica.org/whatwedo). And thanks for using Oxfam Unwrapped (http://www.oxfamamericaunwrapped.com/home.php?xid=c0ad79d31440337e5066eabc25538dd8)!

We never know where our volunteers will be seated until we actually get to the show, but as most Coldplay fans know, any seat at a Coldplay show is a great one!

We'll be adding more non-Coldplay concert opportunities in the next few days, including shows by She & Him (featuring M. Ward & Zooey Deschanel), Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Stereolab, and more, so keep checking our sign-up page:

Hi Yellow745-

Age requirements depend on the activity or event. If you send me a PM telling me where you live, I'll do my best to hook you up with a local Oxfam volunteer team who can let you know what events might be available to you to volunteer for.

Also, sign up here (http://act.oxfamamerica.org/oxfamamerica/join.tcl?qp_source=08fy%5fsp%5fcoldplay)to join our eCommunity, which is another way you can learn of activities available to Oxfam supporters.

So this is where it all starts. I’m sitting behind my desk at Oxfam. Just got my itinerary through for my trip to LA in just 8 days, where I will join Coldplay and their crew for the first show of their Viva La Vida North American tour. The album sounds fantastic. The band have been wowing crowds with their live comeback at the free shows in Brixton, Barcelona and New York (amongst TV slots galore). Next stop, California.

Rehearsals at Wembley arena were followed by the live return (both on stage and on Radio 1), at a packed out Brixton Academy, London, 16/06/08. I arrived just as the band were soundchecking ‘Viva La Vida’ just hours before the waiting public rushed in. Oxfam was there with the Health & Education FOR ALL campaign. It is a call for action from governments and institutions on people’s right to health and education. Our volunteers also gave out Be Humankind badges and action-postcards. The badges were as prominent as Coldplay’s butterfly confetti at the end of the night… almost.

Heads were turned when the band did a very special acoustic version of ‘Yellow’ from the balcony followed by the drummer, Will Champion, on lead vocals for ‘Death Will Never Conquer’.

Next up, the band rolled into New York for their huge Madison Square Garden show. It’s a huge venue, covered from head to toe in history. As the crew were rigging for the new show, it felt as though the band were making history themselves. Over 350 people signed up to help Oxfam America on overcoming poverty and injustice around the world. Coldplay have continued their amazing support of Oxfam, by inviting us to campaign at their concerts on this huge world tour. Another packed venue. Hand painted guitars playing brand new number 1 hits. Viva La Vida is going to be an incredible tour.

I can’t wait.

I’m a long way from that Oxfam desk now. Not quite a million miles, but you get the idea. I’m sitting in the Crew Room backstage at the Los Angeles Forum, which for the next two nights, is the home of Coldplay. The shows are sold out, which may well be a sign of things to come!

On my left, is a hand painted drum. There are faces, lips, arms, swirls and stripes.. The rollers, brushes, paint tins and mixing plates are still strewn across the table. I can hear that Coldplay have just arrived for their final run-through rehearsal, before this tour kicks off. It feels as though everyone involved is using every last minute, to make this show as good as it can possibly be.

Oxfam has been given a chance to project www.oxfam.org/coldplay onto one of the huge rotating balls which make up part of the stage show. That will be a sight for these jet-lagged sore eyes!

I’ll be off to meet Oxfam America’s volunteers in a few hours, so I‘d better crack on with getting the stall set up. It’s almost show time.

What a show. Lights, cameras, and action. The band and the crew did a fantastic job tonight. As if the crowd weren’t excited enough by doing the ‘wave’ before the show. They then had the pleasure of watching Coldplay at their best. What a great way to start the week..

The light show was awesome tonight. The Forum lending itself perfectly to all sorts of illuminated activity. I thought they’d be ironing out problems for the first couple of weeks. It looks like they’ve nailed it already. On the way out, people were still singing the chanting chorus to ‘Viva La Vida’. It didn’t take them long to learn those words.. (w-o-a-h, w-o-a-h!).

We had a really positive bunch of Oxfam volunteers too, who signed up 705 people for further action. The end of the night made my day, with www.oxfam.org/coldplay being projected on a huge rotating sphere in the middle of the arena. Once the confetti butterflies had fluttered down and the stage swept clean for tomorrow, it was off back to the hotel. I’m too tired to keep typing, but I just wanted to let you know how awesome it was!

Coldplay is campaigning for famine relief and fair-trade practices at its concert tour stops.

FOR YEARS musicians have taken a leading role in one of their industry's most important acts of public service -- turning people's hunger for a great song, well performed, into food that feeds the physical hunger of thousands.

Live Aid for Africa is one of the most famous examples, but so too is Willie Nelson's efforts to save American farms.

Now the wildly popular rock band Coldplay has put itself at the service of one of the world's oldest famine relief organizations, the British-based Oxfam. The group opened its Viva La Vida World Tour at the Forum in Inglewood on Monday night with Oxfam volunteers busily working the corridors, where they handed out fliers urging action against poverty and social injustice. The Oxfam website ( www.oxfam.org/coldplay) was projected onto a large rotating sphere in the middle of the arena after the show.

Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin has been a strong supporter of Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign, which seeks to end the dumping of cheap goods into poor countries. Martin -- who has visited Africa, the Dominican Republic and Haiti with Oxfam -- witnessed firsthand how the practice has undermined the local economies. Farmers and manufacturers, struggling to compete, end up out of business and in debt.

On its 2003 world tour, the band collected 10,000 postcards calling for fair trade agreements. This time around, the U.S. presidential election is also a concern. (Small booklets urging people to vote were handed out at the Forum show.) Oxfam's Pete Lusby, who will be traveling with the band members as they make their way across three continents in the coming months, blogged about the experience on the relief organization's website Monday night. He noted that more than 700 people had signed up for more information on Oxfam.

Lusby wrote: "On the way out, people were still singing the chanting chorus to 'Viva La Vida,' " a soaring peace anthem.

He added: "It didn't take the crowd long to learn the words."

Peas sign on with advocacy group

With both presidential nominations decided, here's the real drama being played out in the run up to the national conventions: Who will sing at all parties?

These are the kinds of bookings likely to stay in flux until the last minute because musicians are independent spirits and often have as hard a time making up their minds as a superdelegate.

The Creative Coalition was the first to step out last week with its plans: the Grammy Award-winning group the Black Eyed Peas will perform at the organization's gala at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

And just to make sure there are plenty of celebs in the crowd, the group has signed up a list of coalition delegates: Quentin Tarantino, Spike Lee, Susan Sarandon, Forest Whitaker, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dana Delany, Barry Levinson, Matthew Modine, Alan Cumming, Cheryl Hines, Rachael Leigh Cook, Gloria Reuben and Wendie Malick.

In addition to hosting the gala, the Creative Coalition will sponsor a series of other events in Denver, including a luncheon honoring actress Annette Bening and 16 female U.S. senators.

The group has made no announcement on its plans for the Republican convention in Minneapolis.

Nevertheless, officials wanted to make it clear that the Creative Coalition does not endorse political parties or candidates.

Tell that to Sarandon and the Peas.

The locations of the seats are different at each and every venue. Even if someone told you where they got seats in California, it doesn't mean that you would get those seats at the Houston show. The best you can do now is sign up to volunteer and hope you get chosen!

I’m on the bus. Front top bunk. Driver’s side. I just marked my name on the mini-whiteboard that has the 11 other scribbled names for this bus. One of 5 on the tour. I can hear the set frantically being wheeled out case-by-case from the loading bay, onto the shining red trucks. Drivers eager to hit the road, and crew, ready to hit the hay. I’m fascinated by how fast that whole set gets boxed up and heads for another venue. That venue waiting for us this time is the MGM Grand.. Las Vegas.

I hear it’s ‘hot’ in Las Vegas. And Crazy. I’m excited. And intrigued..

If Oxfam has a group of volunteers as good as tonight, we’ll do fine. Another night. Another raft of names signed up for Oxfam America. More people showing support for the cause. More people ready to use their power and take action on injustice. It’s exciting to meet so many people ready to do something positive. Also to meet all the people who already know about Oxfam, and want to do more.

The Coldplay show shifted a little tonight. Don’t Panic was an acoustic track, with ‘Yellow’ played in full, I think for the first time so far. No venue seems too big for this band. If anything, the bigger the better. More people = more noise from the crowd. The HP Pavillion in San Jose is a huge concrete dome. Home of the Sharks hockey team. Coldplay seem to feed off the singing voices of big crowds. Not quite like sharks though.. thankfully.

Just before I go (as my eyes are drying up with this bedlight shining at them), I just wanted to say. I went to San Francisco with a couple of old uni friends last night. Checked out the pacific and the misty Golden Gate Bridge. That thing is awesome. I got vertigo just looking at it. Apparently they never stop painting it. Imagine the guy who paints that thing all year round.. I have enough respect for the rigging guys on the tour who swing from the lights and speaker stacks every day!

Enough from me. 8 hours, 528 miles, and we’ll be in the desert. Farewell California. Viva Las Vegas*.

*I had to say it.

Time for a breather.. time I caught up with the world.

I am in the production office at the United Center, Chicago. Home of the Bulls and the Blackhawks! Banners marking their history of success hangs from one of the highest ceilings on the tour. This venue is apparently one of the ‘big 3′ (in terms of height at least). Got a bit of vertigo on the ‘noseblead’ seats when I took a wander earlier. There is history everywhere. I met tonight’s Oxfam volunteers a couple of hours ago, by a statue of Michael Jordan leaping for the basket. I think Coldplay would have slightly different statues, but who knows, they may get one someday. The tour seems to be the biggest on the planet right now.. selling out shows in hours and minutes, rather than days and weeks. Every venue they hit (with those hand-painted drums), goes nuts for the band, as soon as they launch into ‘Clocks’, or even set foot on the stage for that matter. When they took a run around to the balcony at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, for ‘Green Eyes’, it was just crazy up there. I got some good pictures, but plenty of blurred ones with it, when my arms got knocked by other arms held up for that special photo (of that time when they were a couple of feet away from Will, Guy, Chris, and Johnny).

The show is on film tonight. This huge crowd will get a special treat of a couple of songs twice, and a longer set. They’ve been setting up the ‘dolly’s’, cables, ‘risers’ & cameras strategically all day.. I think it’s gonna be special.

Another awesome group of volunteers, all on time and full of energy for our work here. It’s great for them all to be able to say that Coldplay invited them here to talk about Oxfam. What a perfect chance to link up a great concert experience, with doing something right here and now, to get involved with making big change.

Just before I go for now, I wanted to say.. Vegas was crazy. The trip over the mountains from San Jose, was longer than expected. The crew all got in late to the venue. I was so impressed to see the show up and running in time. Especially working in that desert heat! It’s an experience that place. They’ve got an Eiffel Tower and a Statue of Liberty! I was used to Blackpool’s Golden Mile and Yarmouth.. not the Vegas strip. Now i’ve seen it, and now i’m a long way away from those casinos.

You might be a big fish, in a little pond.

Those are the lyrics I just heard Chris Martin sing from the United Center stage on the second night of their stop in Chicago. They are on stage right now.

Just before I came in to write, they played ‘Yellow’ to a rapturous reception, literally lighting up the arena with that song, both in colour and voice.

Oxfam had a massive 1143 great Chicagoans signed up last night, and it looks like a similar amount again tonight. The audiences seem really keen to find out more. The energy of the volunteers has been great! They are all in there enjoying the show right now. Gives me a chance to scribble a bit on these keys.

As soon as the show is done, it’s off to Philadelphia. 12 hours on the tour bus…! It will be a good chance for a nice long snooze. Oh, there go the band, running down the corridor for the encore. Right, i’m off to check on the tables and try to catch the last song..

A big thanks to all of the members of this forum who have joined us at shows so far! And thanks to the administrators for posting our man Pete's tour blog as well!

As you've read, things are going great on the tour, and we're meeting tons of new people who are anxious to join Coldplay in supporting Oxfam.

If you haven't signed up to work at a show yet and would like to, the application is at www.oxfamamerica.org/concerts .

And don't forget to sign up for our eCommunity and possibly win some pretty great autographed items from Coldplay at www.oxfamamerica.org/coldplay .

If you happen to be going to the Philly show tonight, stop by our table and tell them you are from this board and grab one of our green Oxfam America buttons. We'd love to meet you!

Thanks,

Canada and the Rocky Mountains.. the latest destination of the Coldplay Tour. It’s the day of their headline slot at the Pemberton Festival, which will also see Jay-Z perform before the London boys take to the main stage. Quite an impressive pair of headliners. Surely rumours of a collaboration will circulate the site. We shall wait and see.

Philadelphia Wachovia Center was the last to play host to Coldplay’s sold out show. A night to remember for thousands more fans before the tour headed for it’s 4 dates in Canada. A few of those fans being dedicated enough to show their appreciation by handing out ‘Viva La Coldplay’ and ‘USA Still Loves Coldplay’ signs to the audience. This was the idea of www.coldplaying.com to follow in the footsteps of a previous stunt at the end of the Twisted Logic tour. These dedicated fans also kindly gave their time to hand out Oxfam postcards to raise awareness. The message being a joint one, of appreciation for a great band, and that together, we can change the world.

Oxfam America will for now hand over the reigns to Oxfam groups in Canada and Quebec. Volunteers will be there at the Pemberton festival and again in Montreal and Toronto. The crew travelled tirelessly, merging two days into one to get here.. Today I found myself in Vancouver and then winding our way through the stunning Rocky Mountains to Whistler. What a tour. What a trip. Apparently one of the guys spotted a bear.. I was too busy looking at the snow tipped mountains and waterfalls on my side of the van. It’s time I went to bed, before my day merges into three.

Montreal already?

Ole, Ole Ole Ole .. Cold-play Coldplay! (repeat many times).

There’s nothing like a festival crowd. Squished in tight for the best spot. For some that’s right by the speaker, on your friends shoulders, by the fence, or it might be at the back.. where there’s room to dance. For everyone, it’s on the grass/mud/dust/hay, or whatever else is underfoot. It was dust at the first ever Pemberton Festival. For most, the best spot was as close to the stage as possible, when the night reached Coldplay time. Some of those at the back got a surprise front spot when the band played two songs by in the middle of the crowd. Festival crowds are so close, you can feel the heat, just standing. And when the roar goes up for the return of Coldplay to Canada, 5 weeks at number 1 here, you can almost hear it.. the heat i mean.

I was right in there. Where Oxfam frisbees flew all around. Beach balls bounced off heads and the buzz of human excitement filled the air. Girls and boys alike screamed for their favourite songs, and for band members hands in marriage..(one guy behind me said.. “That Chris Martin guy.. he’s a .. guy.. but i’d like to marry him”). There was a general consensus. It was worth the traffic which awaited us all, to see Coldplay close the festival Sunday night.

Coldplay follwed ‘Mr’ Jay-Z (as they called him). He warmed up the crowd nicely for his friends from London. Coldplay claimed that they should have done that for their friend from Brooklyn, New York.

It was another whistlestop tour of another incredible place. Pemberton festival more visually stunning than most. The stage back-drop was snow-tipped peaks. Oxfam’s tent was in a wooded path, where Oxfam Canada had linked up with Make Poverty History. People could also sign action cards, buy white wristbands or have their picture taken for the 0.7 campaign asking the Canadian government to meet their promises for overcoming poverty.

British Columbia is a beautiful place. Vancouver will be a great setting for the 2010 Olympics. Coldplay are a long way from there now, just two days later. They are two doors down from me, warming up for their show at Centre Bell, Montreal. Santogold is busy on-stage warming up the crowd. Oxfam Quebec volunteers are busy talking to the crowd about the Health and Education FOR ALL campaign. There is the chance to take an action right there to sign a petition asking for more and better health and education workers worldwide. I had better go and see how they are getting on, before they take their seats. It’s not long until Coldplay time.

Maple Leafs all round.

The singing was ringing in my ears as I packed up and took a shower last night. Chris Martin had told the crowd the rules of the encore: that they had to make lots of noise, if they wanted the band to come out again. That was before they played the last song of the set.. then, even with a mic, you couldn’t hear him speak to introduce it.

Montreal was an amazing show. The crowd in full voice from start to end. Coldplay couldn’t help but play a second encore. There’s a lesson in making some noise for one more song. 1887 strong of that same crowd signed Oxfam Quebec’s FOR ALL petition. Exigez l’accès de tous aux services publics en signant la déclaration Pour tous!
Countless more spoke to one of our fantastic volunteers. There may be only one show in Quebec, but I won’t forget it.

7 hours after getting on the bus, we’re off again, load-in has begun, the stage rolled in, the floor marked, riggers walk the gangways way up high, and road cases just keep rolling in off the trucks. There are cables and chains everywhere. It’s hard hat city, and everyone seems to know their place. The ice for the Maple Leafs is long gone. A new stage is being built before my eyes. Tonight, Toronto’s Air Canada Center plays host to Coldplay. For now though, it’s a building site.

One more show north of the border.

Santogold just warmed up in a huddle to my left. Black hats, white shirts, balck ’pants’, white ’sneakers’ and sunglasses. The lights are bright out there you know.. They just took the stage, with a roar rippling through the excited crowd. Sirens ring around. There goes the beat. There’s the bass.

Backstage always sounds like a glamorous place.. all couches, plants.. etc. This is just where we work. I’m sat by a concrete wall. Surrounded by road cases. Roadies and crew are perched on cases with laptops, catching up with the world. Radios are being charged. It’s true though that some unusual things happen. Earlier on, two huge bundles of helium balloons went past me.. I think it must be someone’s birthday… Should make for a good show tonight.

1346 people signed Oxfam’s FOR ALL petition last night. Coldplay have invited us here to talk to their supporters about how they can also support the amazing work of Oxfam around the world. The movement created during Make Trade Fair was incredible. I still see the symbol on t-shirts, hands, shoulders, even foreheads.. I was reading earlier, about the real and positive changes that have been made possible, by that campaign. People’s lives have been changed. Farmers in Ghana are able to control their own destiny. They can sell their crops at a fair price. With their improved income, they can pay for their children to go to school. Change is possible. The FOR ALL campaign calls for children to have access to good education, for everyone to have safe health care, water and sanitation. It’s basic stuff. It’s important though.

I’m so pleased we’re here. Part of this tour. Sitting amongst the road cases, blogging backstage. Or talking to people on the concourse, before they take their seats. Coldplay may well be stopping by in a town near you on this tour. It’s a show worth waiting for. There’s no reason to wait to get involved with Oxfam’s work. Just click on the right of this page. Show your support for Oxfam and Coldplay.

There goes the drum tech with the sticks for tonight. I wonder how many Will breaks during ‘Politik’?! There goes Santogold. Still bouncing to the tune of their last song. I’m going to see if the setlist is ready.

Farewell Canada.. (for now).

It’s the end of the road in Toronto. We will soon cross the border back into the United States of America.

I’m in the production office, post-shower. I’ve packed the Oxfam road case. I’ve seen off the awesome Oxfam Canada volunteering team. Another 1615 signatures for the FOR ALL campaign. Signed. Sealed. Delivered.. (or something like that).

I took my shower in the dressing room (after the band had left). Paper butterflies still littered the floor. There are not many better feelings than a hot shower after a long day at the ‘office’. The Toronto crowd were treated to an unscheduled version of ‘The Hardest Part’ tonight. It sounded like a great show. One of the highlights so far. Oxfam and Coldplay have had an incredible time in Canada.

I will be glad to hit the pillow in my bunk tonight.

Hartford, XL Center.

The walls are shaking. The crew are checking the huge sound system. Both band and crew, are back in the USA. Canada behind us, until we roll into Ottawa, next time we cross the pond. A very sleepy crew left Toronto after 3 consecurive show days. We made the (slightly) bonkers border crossing back South.. (all off the buses at 4.30am, only to be sent back to our buses without checking out passports).

Oxfam America volunteers will be here in an hour. All geared up and ready to ask this Connecticut crowd to join Coldplay’s support of Oxfam. It’s a crazy world that gives millions of people less than $1 each for a hard day’s work. The same world that sells bottled water for $5 at a festival.. when billions don’t have access to clean water. Something is not right. Oxfam knows that. Coldplay have shown their support for Oxfam for years. What better time to realise the power we have collectively to make a difference, than whilst having the time of your life, singing with thousands of other people, to a Coldplay song. Small actions change lives. Sign a petition. Join a movement asking for education for all. Buy Fairtrade coffee to give your coffee farmer a fair wage. Click on the ’Take Action’ page to do exactly that, right now.

they've snuck a few piccies into the blog, :)

http://www.oxfamblogs.org/coldplay/

and a new entry :D

What’s that I hear? .. (silence)

The quiet hum of a computer. The muffled bleep of a printer. The distant mingled voices of the office. Grey clouds outside and the smell of freshly brewed tea. It’s all very different sights, sounds and smells to life on the road. No radios, no lines of cables on the floor, no waiting crowds filling arenas.. Most of the crew, myself included, have returned home after the first leg of the tour. Only a select few crew members have travelled on with Coldplay to Japan, for the two dates at Summer Sonic Festival. If you happen to be at the festival, why not check out Oxfam Japan, after catching the headline set..

It’s time to re-charge batteries (and not just those belonging to the radio sets). I’m exhausted. My eyes feel like crutons. It’s past home-time in the office, but it feels like lunch-time. From what I hear, we are all going to need our rest. Europe is going to be intense. From Spain to Germany, Coldplay are popular, wherever they go. Oxfam will be there all the way. The tour left North America screaming for an encore, with two final shows in Washington and Boston. My views of which were a walk around the block, peering through the bus window, and of course, inside the organs of two more huge sports arenas. Boston TD Banknorth Garden, the home of Boston Celtics, and of their first NBA Championship triumph since 1986. Oxfam/Coldplay volunteer and outgoing intern with Oxfam America, Jack, was fairly pleased that Coldplay were playing at the home of the Celtics, on his last day, across the road from the Oxfam office! Not a bad way to go out.

One fan signed up at the Oxfam table with the Make Trade Fair = symbol on his hands, and said to me “I heard about Oxfam from Coldplay, I wan’t to get involved with your work, how can I help?” It’s so powerful to hear people saying these things time and again at the concerts. So many people have been inspired by Coldplay’s support for Oxfam. Chris Martin himself once said, whilst visiting Ghana.. “Everybody coming together to make one loud voice, is the only way that things get changed”. When you hear the volume of that voice singing the chorus of ‘Yellow’ each night there is a Coldplay show, wherever they are around the world, it makes you realise the noise we can all make with Oxfam too. There is no point in us all sitting behind our quietly humming computers and just thinking about it. Add your voice now.

I am looking forward to a rest, to walking a few streets I know and catching up with myself and those i’ve missed. There is a part of me already looking forward to getting out there again. Touring the world and hearing that loud voice get louder.

Hi Jesse-

Good questions!

Because of venue rules in certain areas of the country, we ask our volunteers to be 18+, but we'll allow volunteers under 18 if they are working in tandem with a family member who is 18+. When you fill out the application, make sure you both mention you want to work together, and that'll be taken into consideration when we make final selections.

Thanks,

This way, my husband can sit with our son while I do the Oxfam volunteering, and I would take his place with our son for the show(really want to see the look on his face as he loves Coldplay). But in the training module it looks like Oxfam volunteers have a reserved seat, is that how you understand it? If so, I am so excited, but mixed feelings as I really wanted to share this experience with my son. Do I need to buy another ticket??

If we got selected for the volunteering, does that mean we also have a seat at the concert? haha that might sound like a stupid question, but I just wanted to be sure.. Also, does anyone know where the seats are? or have a general idea?

So I got picked to volunteer for Oxfam at the Philly show on the 1st. I've never done this before, what should I expect? Anyone else ever do it at a Coldplay concert?

Did you mean 'above' their own? Yeah I'm still trying to confirm if I need my ticket to get in, even though I realize I will have a reserved seat with Oxfam, but I would love to give my purchased ticket to my son. I emailed Oxfam and they didn't even answer the question. Don't want to get there and not be able to get him in. I am so excited though, nothing like this ever happens to me!

if you get picked to volunteer, you don't need a ticket to get in; Oxfam will give you your pass to get into the venue when you meet up with them an hour before the doors open.

Yeah the 3rd email was basically logistical info about the venue, when you should arrive/ what you should bring, and contact information. Also it included lots of stuff from the webinar that you probably got a link to in the first email. Have fun at the Philly show!

anyone volunteer last night? how was it?

Jenjie

Can't believe the upgrades were given to people here, that's incredibly awesome Though I'm insanely jealous too.

I volunteered with Oxfam tonight so I arrived at 530pm. But the Izod Center is a mess, they almost wouldn't let us park our car b/c of the Jets game. The security people didn't know to leave one door open for people to go in and everyone(including venue staff) were bitching about that.

We saw Pete around 5:40pm and then met up with the rest of the volunteers. There were like ~13 volunteers tonight. Our job was to get people to sign up for the Oxfam e-mail list, we did it from 7pm-9pm. I thought it was going to be easier but people are surprisingly apprehensive about signing up for stuff. Maybe it's that NYC area people mentality. But most people were at least nice about not signing up. Except for that one guy who told one of the other volunteers that he lives for injustice. wth.

As for the show, Pete had various tickets. He says he gets them from from the production crew. I got a nosebleed section one, but I upgraded myself to a 2nd row 200 level for the second half of the concert. The place being packed made upgrading earlier in the show kinda hard. I'm sorry to say this, but the fans in the nosebleed section were pretty dead. The view was still decent, and they still sounded great. I was so excited that "The Hardest Part" was played in full, not like the last time in CT. Chris made some jokes about drainage problems in Ohio since all the Joe the Plumbers were busy.

I got up for a break when the guys ran into the crowd, but positioned myself pretty close to them after I got back and had a very good view of them. The second half of the concert was great, I finally was in a more happening section and they were a lot more into it. I got more into it and the place went nuts during Yellow. And then it was over. :-( Sorry I have no pictures to post, wasn't really in the best positions. I'll be back there tomorrow and I'll be ready. Please also, if any of you have not signed up on the Oxfam email list please do so with one of the volunteers around the arena or at one of the 2 tables.

Just wanted to post a quick shout-out and thank you to everyone who stopped by our tables last night at the Izod Center and mentioned that you were Coldplaying.com members. Your support is appreciated!

And thanks again to the Coldplaying.com folks who volunteered with us as well!

If you are going to the 2nd NJ show tonight, or any of the upcoming shows, stop by the tables and say hello. It's always great to meet the people who post here!

Im thinking of volunteering for the Nov 25 show at Honda Center. Sounds like everyone is having a good time with this. I don't have ticket's yet...missed the sale, ebay is way over priced. Looks like a great way to get it, gonna see if some of my friends can go too. Thanks Oxfam for the opprotunity!

I will be volunteering for Oxfam next Monday in Detroit and am very excited. I didn't know when I signed up that I would have a free ticket to get in. Now they said my husband can volunteer w/ me too, so now I have 2 extra tickets. I don't want to give them away if my Oxfam seats aren't as good as my purchased tickets, but Oxfam says they won't know where the seats are until the day of the concert. My tickets are for the middle of the floor. Where have the Oxfam volunteers been sitting thus far??? I know some are by the stage, but what's the worse I can expect?
thanks, Robin

your oxfam seats will most prob not be on the floor. what happens is that the production crew goes around upgrading seats to the people without floor seats or poor seats in general and oxfam gets the leftovers...the first time i had great seats on the lower level but then i had nosebleeds. just volunteer and save your others seats.

I applied for the Houston show as well and I got an email yesterday saying I was on the back up list in case someone did not show up. I really hope I get called, that would be amazing. I've tried to volunteer at every show I've gone to and have never been chosen before so this would be great!

I hope you get chosen, too, Tanya! My brother got selected the first time around and I got an email about being put on the backup list. Within a few days, I was contacted again and now I am also volunteering. It will be my second time helping Oxfam at a Coldplay show. It's such a fun experience; I do hope you get to help out!

THANK YOU OXFAM!!!! What an amazing experience the entire night in Atlanta was. Pete and Jaqueline you two were awesome and the night was full of positive energy! I got 42 signatures and Mike got 50! We loved every minute of it and the seats we got were SO GOOD!!!! Anyone contemplating volunteering should just do it. You will not regret spending your time working with them to get the word out for a great cause! And last but not least an amazing show from 4 very dedicated musicians!

THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART! I feel blessed to have been a part of it all!

I dunno, and I feel bad that you guys didnt. We were in section 116 about 13 rows back. My jaw hit the floor and I assumed everyone that night experienced a similar view. I have to say that Greeneyes' pics from that location are awesome. I hope you get blessed with an upgrade to the front on the 11th. I was happy just to get to go and would have sat anywhere they put me. It was worth while helping out Oxfam and Id do it again even if the view was obstructed.

For anyone considering volunteering, stop considering and DO IT!!!!!!!!

Oxfam is a class act organization and Lori and I had fun volunteering Friday in Orlando. It is such a good feeling when you find someone who is interested and can arm them with the resources they need to start getting involved.

Kudos to Oxfam and Pete:clap:

Here we are after the Orlando show with Pete:D

I GOT ACCEPTED TO BE A VOLUNTEER AT THE SACRAMENTO, CA VENUE. WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
DO I HAVE TO BUY A TICKET? DO I GET GOOD SEATS?

CAN ANY ONE HELP ME OUT??

WV Gal
23-06-2009, 02:56 AM
No. You do not have to buy a ticket. You work at getting signatures until 20 minutes before Coldplay comes onto the stage. We had lawn seats so if you want better seats then you should buy a ticket. It's not hard work and it's quite nice because you can meet other people who like Coldplay and are concerned about the world. I would suggest that you wear good comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water. You may not think you will need the water but you do because you are going to be talking a lot.

Oh, I believe this thread is in the wrong section.
