Well, as announced this morning on Kevin and Bean, Coldplay tickets are going on sale this weekend for their show at the Forum (for the night before my 26th birthday!!! haha).
Is anyone planning on going? Has anyone ever been to this venue before, and if so, how is it in there: sound/size wise?
Discuss. :D

I couldn't find anything on ticketmaster. Only reserved parking and it has the date of July 14th. Though the official Forum website has the concert dated for the 15th! :D

If I'm able to go it'll be my third concert at the Forum. :) There's no freaking way I'm going unless I win tix from KROQ since the ticket prices are so high. :(
I've seen Coldplay and Muse there, and it's pretty good (the venue). I like outdoor concerts a bit more tho.

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster. The Forum is a pretty nice place to see the band, as that was where I saw them during the Twisted Logic tour; acoustics are not bad and the size is pretty good, pretty large though so definitely dig up the extra money to sit further up (I got nosebleeders in the back, still an amazing experience but definitely need binoculars!) I was afraid they would pass LA as we are always an awesome crowd to play to, imho! That said I can't wait to fight the online crowd to get some tickets on Saturday on Ticketmaster, lol. I also notice a presale on Thursday... anyone want to share the presale code when they get it? :D:D:D

Though if the presale is anything like my past few experiences, it'll be sold out before I even get the chance to click my mouse anyway

I think it's another Best Buy presale because I'm looking at the Best Buy Reward Zone site and under the area where the code's supposed to show it says "Coming Soon" for the date period of Thu,06/05 10:00 AM - Fri,06/06 10:00 PM.

I agree, it seems like while they have dropped the price of the floor tickets since Twisted Logic (they used to be 130+ from what I remember?) the nosebleeder seats have gone up.

I think best buy just got the date wrong, but the presale does start june 5. For those who have been to the forum before, hows the general layout of the venue? Is it best to get average floor seats, or say front row 2nd floor, etc? Thanks a bunch

Best Buy gets a swift kick in the arse from me!! I received the email notice a few minutes after it was dispatched and went to the site to apply for the presale code.
It kept giving me the "ERROR, WE'RE SORRY WE CAN'T PROCESS YOUR REQUEST AT THIS TIME" page! Everytime I kept coming back it keeps giving me that fcking page!

Yep, they just opened more tickets up about 10 minutes ago and I've pulled up pairs in Loge 36 and 3....that's too far back for that price.
ETA: Ok, I pulled up Loge 24 and grabbed a pair there. Not too bad but not floor. I'm gonna check again tomorrow with KROQ's presale.

05-06-2008, 06:37 PM
I pulled up Loge 10 row U at about 10:20. I bet they will be releasing tickets throughout the day just to prevent the scalpers from buying them all up. keep trying.

I'm getting riser seats coming up, but nothing on the floor. Do you think there will be floor seats available for the general sale on Sat? I'm half tempted to wait until sat. and see if better seats are available then. I'm by myself on thsi one, so I just need one ticket, not a pair.

Yeah I too was in front of my computer at 10:00 on the dot, and the first two times I tried it didn't accept my password and said it "wasn't in the system!" SO shitty.
Things appeared sold out right away, although I ended up pulling up a pair of Colonnade 27 tickets at around 10:04, so at least I'm in the building.
I've been to the Forum quite a few times, and if you're in Loge or Colonnade but fairly close to the stage off to one of the sides, it's actually way better than being on the floor all the way in the back.
I saw Pearl Jam at the Forum two years ago, and I was in like Loge 35 or something ALL the way in the back and it was just too far away.
Been in the Colonnade sides fairly close to the stage for another Pearl Jam show and Eric Clapton back in like 1998, and it was fine.
Stoked for the show!:D

Also happy to be in the building. Was hoping for closer up, but nevertheless, scored 2 tix low level row in Lodge 36.
At first it was giving me errors. Then I typed in for 1 ticket. Unbelievably, I had a Floor Center in B, row 5. I almost grabbed it, but I really needed 2 seats for me & my lady, so I gave it up. Fortunately a deuce came up after that, & I grabbed them. Probably could have sold it for bank, bought 2 more later & made some. Oh well . . just happy to be there
Imagine if it had been two on the floor! :o

I got my Best Buy code yesterday.
I got on at 10:00am 6-5-08. I was able to look at three separate seating areas.
I'm in Loge 27, Row V.
Someone mentioned that the nosebleeds went up. Actually, I looked at the ones I purchased for the X&Y tour and I paid 49.50 for The Forum. At Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, I paid 39.50 for lawn tickets.
This time I am going to the concert alone. Last time, I had someone who was not enthused to be there and I just rather be a crazy Coldplay fan alone.

Yeah this KROQ presale sucks. First pair was Riser 2, then the next search was Colonade 3, and now it's giving me the "We couldn't find tickets that matched your request." Eesh. Now I really feel fortunate about yesterday's Best Buy sale. I think the floor sections A,B,C are reserved for the Ticketmaster auction or VIPs because I haven't even seen them available on eBay.
Good luck to everybody for tomorrow's general sale!
Benjamin Linus
06-06-2008, 06:14 PM
I'm thinking the same (about the floor). I was able to snag a couple floor seats yesterday, but only in singles. And that was far and few (and alwyays in the far back floor section)
I don't think pairs were available in floor in both pre-sales, if they were..they were RARE

I got offered 13 pairs of tickets in the KROQ presale, they all sucked though! I just couldn't pay $100 for tickets at the back of the venue. The $100 tickets I got were all a joke. Nothing even close to a good seat! So I did not buy, my as well wait a few days for the Vegas gig where I have front row!

It is a horrible pre-sale. The top price tickets were only availble for a few areas and most of those were at the far reaches-in fact several seats were one seat away from the $75 tickets.
I just could not spend $130 (almost-with fees!) for a ticket that gives you a view of a big screen!

JasonR02

While I agree, the pricing stinks. I was right at the tip of walkway that went out into the pit for the last U2 concert. $50 for the floor, for freaking U2! I like being in the pit/on the floor, but alas, Coldplay wills till be amazing, even if I'm watching them from far away.
Benjamin Linus
06-06-2008, 08:02 PM
To be honest, the Forum isn't that great of a venue. After two attempts with the pre-sale, I am considering just passing on this concert.
I'm sure Coldplay will play more California dates, at better venues.

To be honest, I always have a much better time in the nosebleeds then on the floor. I'm kinda short (5'3"), so I have to look over lots of people to see the stage.
I'm glad I got the Loge section (and pretty close to the stage). Cost $114 though. It's a graduation gift though, so I shouldn't complain.

In regards to the 7/15 date, I tried getting tickets through KROQ's presale. I was successful and got 1 ticket about 30 minutes ago on Floor C Row 16. However, because it was only 1 ticket, I needed 2, I decided to pass... I will still go to the show... the question is HOW. Hahaha.

I agree, the KROQ presale was pretty rough. I kept getting colonade tickets, so I figured, what the hell I just need to get myself in the damn stadium. So I bought the 75$ colonade tickets in section 29-ish. I decided to try again after I bought them, and actually got three seats in the risers, which I think are not bad? Looks like a really good place to sit... so I bought those too. And now I'm broke
On the other hand, I'm trying to get rid of my 3 colonade tickets, haha

I'm sure once both shows are sold out you'll have no trouble getting rid of your Col. section tickets. What section of the Col did you end up getting?

29, actually not that bad in the Colonnade.
I do think it is weird that the Colonnade tickets are only 20$ cheaper than the riser/loge tickets.

and from the sound of replies on this thread so far, it doesn't sound like floor seats were in the presales. :\

I got loge and floor seats whenever I searched for a single ticket. Pairs or more takes you back up to the colonnade.

I noticed that the KROQ tickets were higher in price, or was I imagining things. :blank:
It was tough to get tickets though. I was really happy that I didn't give up on the Best Buy presale yesterday or I would have been assed out.

There's no way the first date is sold out. They never relase full allocation in pre-sales.
However, I am going to go for the Monday (the newly added) show. Because they will be more tickets in the general sale, seeing as the Tuesday show had 2 pre-sales.

i think that with BOTH the pre-sales selling out, it's definitely safe to assume that the rest of the ticket allocations for the general sale WILL sell out.
hence the newly-added concert date, to meet up with demands.

I have to say, this is pretty lame. The fact that they gave away most the seats in the pre-sale to Best Buy reward zone members, and KROQ fan club. Mind you, both are free to sign up with, but I think pre-sales really alienate the true fans. Especially when all the allocation of tickets go on sale during the pre-sale. (No one has a chance during the general).
Oh well, I'm just happy they added a new date. I'm def gonna for tickets. :D

I think it's interesting you say that- I think pre-sales HELP true fans because it's usually the die-hard fans that know when and where these pre-sales are going on. With getting tickets through Ticketmaster, it really is the luck of the draw with getting good seats. While a lot of people here have been screwed with getting good seats to this show so far, I still think these 2 pre-sales were better than the first U.S. leg of the Twisted Logic tour with that lottery system.
Anyway, if things still don't work out tomorrow for anyone here, keep looking- especially towards the day of the show when tickets are often released back into the system.

I only agree, when it's a band hosting it's own pre-sale.
If it's a pre-sale done by a major outlet, I usually see most fans getting average to bad seats with only far and few getting good seats.
That's just me tho. But I still stand by what i said, I think it's lame to have ALL the allocation in a pre-sale.
Not that it matters. Good luck to everyone. :D

I actually think that pre-sales are a good idea. I know that Best Buy pre-sale had a 2 ticket limit. I'm not sure what the KROQ one was. I think that the pre-sales can limit people purchasing alot of tix and selling them for more than they are worth.
I'm glad I found out about the Best Buy pre-sale the day before, otherwise I wouldn't have known.
Benjamin Linus
07-06-2008, 05:25 PM
I like pre-sales, don't get me wrong. I just think it's lame to take the WHOLE allocation of a concert, and sell them in a pre-sale - especially when not all people can participate in it. Like best buy for example, they didn't give you a code, unless you HAD been a best buy reward zone buyer for some time - and in good standing. Not all fans would of known to be a best buy reward zone member. So that already just knocked out a good amount of people that wanted to go.
Looks like you guys were right tho! On ticketmaster, it says "Currently Not On Sale". I have never seen anything like this before. A whole cocnert, especially the size of the forum, sold out in a pre-sale!!! Surely nose bleed seats would be left?
:D
Good luck today.

Viva La Vida collaborator to support US tour shows in Los Angeles
From Jon Hopkin's blog:
I’ve been asked to support Coldplay for the first two shows of the Viva La Vida tour, on the 14th and 15th of July at the Forum, Los Angeles. I will also be joining them for the rest of their US tour as DJ, with more live support slots to be added along the way. Sadly this means I have had to cancel my scheduled DJ appearance at Camp Bestival, sorry about this.

1. Life In Technicolor
2. Violet Hill
3. Clocks
4. In My Place
5. Viva La Vida
6. 42
7. Yes
8. The Scientist
9. Chinese Sleep Chant [Sidestage]
10. God Put A Smile Upon Your Face [Sidestage - new version]
11. Square One
12. Speed Of Sound
13. Trouble
14. Lost!
15. Strawberry Swing
16. Yellow [Acoustic]
17. Death Will Never Conquer [Acoustic, Will on vocals]
18. Fix You
19. Lovers In Japan
Encore
20. Death And All Of His Friends
Some highlights:
-Chris was a BALL OF ENERGY during "Square One". He did a backward somersault. He tumbled around the side stage. He was nuts.
-I call them "The Orbs", the big balls that were circular versions of a big screen, were AWESOME. There were six altogether. One towards the center. Two on the side of the stage and three behind the band. Sometimes they showed color. Sometimes images. Sometimes images of the band playing.
In the beginning of The Scientist, Chris' piano was only playing. I think Johnny's guitar wasn't plugged in. Something happened. It was funny.
In the beginning verse of Speed of Sound, Chris forgot some lyrics and stopped the song.
My absolute favorite highlight: At the end of "Lost!", Chris was playing his piano, he sang "just because I'm losing", and I think he was pausing and was going to say the next part, but the audience finished it for him: "Doesn't mean I'm lost". Chris said, "Let's do that again because it was really fulfilling"....so we all did it again. And, like the last time I remember on the Twisted Logic Tour, he loves how were "all in tune".
-Chris mentioned that they were the older brothers of the Jonas Brothers, and they didn't have as good a relationship as Miley Cyrus.
-Chris wanted to tell us in "starbucks terms" that the first night was "grande" and that the second night was "Venti"
-When Chris was up in the Colonnade, he said "So this is what it's like?"
I know I'm missing more. I'm bad at reviews.
It was an awesome show!

I tried reporting live before the show, but kept on getting booted from the site on my iPhone . I was on the floor this time, in the last row, aisle seat. Far cry from last night's colonnade 26! The show was just as awesome as last night. The only difference in the setlist (I think) was that they swapped Spiderwebs for What If. I would've preferred to hear SpiderWebs again. Tonight, the show started at 9:15, twenty minutes earlier than last night. It seemed like they let out more confetti butterflies tonight too, but that observation may've just been due to my closer proximity to them. I hear that Chris Martin will be on Ryan Seacrest tomorrow morning, is that true?

Woo hoo -- this is an excellent review. Thanks for posting!!!

They played "What If"? OMG that's great, I love this song!

Just got back.
Insanely beautiful show. My first Codlplay gig, and so happy I was able to go. Got a seat in Section 11, seat 11 (next to section 12) and I couldn't have asked for a better seat. Unbelievably close to the stage at the comfort of my own seat.
As to the show, my only real gripe is they opted for a techno-ish pre-recorded version of Talk as opposed to the real thing. But aside from that, it was aces across the board.
Viva La Vida, In My Place, Lovers in Japan, Strawberry Swing and a ton more...and closing with Death and All His Friends was just heavenly.
Chris screwed up a couple of times (Speed of Sound, and The Scientist, I'm pretty sure) but he's so damn charismatic all you do is laugh along with him. The happy foursome awesomely ran up to the nosebleeds mid-show to play Yellow and Death Will Never Conquer, which I can only imagine was crazy cool for those people up there.
Also, he compared our crowd with Monday's in Starbucks-speak. He said we were a Venti, while Monday's crowd was a Grande.
The best compliment....Cracked me up! :D
Awesome show all around!

Ah! Yes. "What If" was played instead. My bad. Happens when you're on a concert high.
I was in Loge 27, Row V, Seat 10. Pretty good seat. Was able to see everything. Chris and the gang though were really small when they were in Colonnade 4/5. Smaller than the stage.

I sat in Col. 7 Row 6 Seat 6 (and the band did their crowd part {were they sing Yellow and Will sings "Death Will Never Conquer"} somewhere near me in [what I believe was Col. 4,5,or 6 - dont know, but it was close] )
I believe that genuinely the band was very pumped when they were testing the crowd for the lyrics to Lost (the studio version) and we did not mess up and it really got them going for more. FUCKING AWESOME!!!!

Looks like the set was almost the same as last night. Almost. With one BIG exception...they did NOT play Trouble! Unless I was just terribly distracted, they didn't play it. So that makes, uh, ONE song from Parachutes. Count 'em. ONE.
I mean, yeah, Parachutes came out almost a decade ago, and I don't expect them to play the entire album. But Trouble was the song that propelled them to being the "biggest band in the world" as Chris commented they were tonight.
And 9/10 of the songs from Viva La Vida is a bit many for my taste. I hate people who gripe like this, I really do. But they couldn't have played Sparks, Spies, or Don't Panic? Just one of them? To give Parachutes some love?
And secondly...they played for an hour and a half. I paid $85 face value to sit 5 rows from the back of the entire fucking arena for an hour and a half? Are you kidding me?
I will never pay that much to see Coldplay again. If you want lifelong fans, give them their money's worth.
DanielColdplay22
16-07-2008, 09:10 AM
I paid close to $100 for my "nosebleed" seat, and that's including fees and what not, not to mention $20 for parking, bought 2 shirts, and drove from close to 25-30 miles out (where I live from the venue)..... I got my money's worth
TallGuyCM - you are sounding like the idiot next to me griping about what the title was to a song (when in fact Coldplay were playing "The Scientist"), and thus confirming the said title of the song with his friends loudly so everyone could hear his stupidity.

16-07-2008, 09:22 AM
I actually didn't talk the entire time, and because I was with my lil bro and Coldplay's his favorite band, I didn't say anything negative about the show upon leaving. Saving my venting for now :D
So Daniel - talk to me when you've paid good money to see a band like Pearl Jam give you a 2 and a half hour set. THAT'S getting your money's worth. And for half the price. I'm sure you're too young to appreciate a band that old, but still.

what are you mad about really? the price did not equal the sum of your happiness?
I've seen Pearl Jam numerous times, saw them at Forum July 13, 1998 (right after I turned 17 - to give you an idea of how old I am) and loved them since (although I have like them since "Vs" came out.
I have paid regular ticket prices for U2 (for 2 out of 3 shows they did in 2001 at the Pond in Anaheim) well worth it. I went to a ticket broker, even, for the 1st night of the LA vertigo show on April 5, 2005 and paid close to $200 for a floor seat, WORTH IT. The only time I can recall that I didn't get my money's worth is when I saw Morrissey at The Greek Theatre in 1997 (October 12, 1997 to be exact) the idiots that invaded the stage during the 1st encore song, stopped the show, because the setlist had Morrissey and his band playing a few more songs after that, but said idiots ruined it.

I love Coldplay. They honestly gave a great show and played more songs than I thought they would play. I think they stopped less than last time I saw them on Twisted Logic.
I have no real passion for another band to pay 100 something on a ticket, plus parking and a (real) t-shirt that I bought. Coldplay is it for me.
I also appreciate the fact that they has a free concert at MSG! And a handful more! Not just some dinky little place, but at an arena.
That place is huge. I saw an Elton John concert there (it was for my mom, and he's cool and all, but at the time I was 14, so didn't care as much as I do now), and that man put on a show, for sitting most of the time.
Oh, and sorry again for the wrong set list. I'm a bit tired. I waited for people to leave the parking lot, but it still took a few minutes. And I don't like driving through Inglewood. Or Los Angeles for that matter.

No. The price did not equal the sum of the band's output is more like it. Tonight's show was a $40, maybe $50 show. Not an $85 show.
If I pay $20 for a show and they play for an hour, great! I got what I paid for. But $85, and especially those that paid outrageous amounts for good floor seats, deserves a longer show than 90 minutes.

That doesn't really answer the question:
what are you mad about really?
1. You're "mad" they didn't play more from the 1st album
2. You're "mad" because they played most of the new album, (hmm..... new album coincides with a new tour.......plot thickens!)
3. You're "mad" because you thought your ticket price was not worth the time, even though you didn't consider the fact of all the production costs that went into this night's show, security,etc...

I just got back from the concert and it was soo much fun! I was pretty far back in Col 23 row 16, but I was just glad to be there at all. This was my very first Coldplay concert & I was really impressed. I loved the part where Chris got all excited that we finished the lyric to Lost for him! He's so cute like that. After a few songs I realized though, that I have always thought of them as this big stadium band that needs that type of huge space for their music to feel right in. (if that makes sense) But I realized that they're really not like that at all. When you see them perform, they're just this little band in the middle of a huge stage playing really beautiful music. In fact I think they'd be so much stronger in a much smaller venue, like the Wiltern or something, where their music could really fill the venue to the brim. Having said that, I still loved it & that was only a fleeting thought I had for a minute during the beginning of the show.
But anyway... Chris sounded great tonight. I was proud of him! haha My only complaint is that I wish they would have played fewer singles. It was kinda like Coldplay's Greatest Hits concert. I really wanted to hear Swallowed in the Sea or Green Eyes or anything a bit lesser known. It's cool though...it was my first Coldplay concert so it was new to me to hear those all live for the first time.

Coldplay was soooooooooooooooooo awesome last night!! :D This was my 2nd Coldplay concert and I had such a great time! (I had better seats this time too) :D I've finally calmed down a bit, er sort of! :laugh3: It was a great show! :D I loved the magic balls! :P Coldplay is already awesome but the magic balls just made it magical! :laugh3: Seriously they were cool! :D My favorite part though was Lovers in Japan with all the butterfly confetti floating in the air! It looked so beautiful and I actually got one of the butterflies and brought it home with me as a souvenir since it fell on me. :P Chris was a goofball as usual! :laugh3: He was jumping around and at one point he actually kind of slid down on his back on one of the side ramps of the stage while he was singing and he didn't miss a beat! :laugh3: I loved that!! :D I loved how he referred to our audience as a 'Venti' in Starbuck terms! lol! Oh just good times all around!! Well I'm still kind of hyper so I'll leave the rambling here!!! :P
I wasn't able to take my camera but my brother did, so I'll share some of the pics he took with you guys! :D He was seated at the left side of the stage, in Colonnade. I was directly across from them, front view and he should have given me the camera but I forget to tell him too! Cause if I had it I would have taken loads of pics and video. :P Anyway pics:

Okay here goes *takes deeep breath!* :D:D
For tonight's concert, I was selected to volunteer w/ Oxfam and so I arrived at the venue around 4:40PM-ish (LoL too excited and it was better safe than sorry...LA traffic is downright ugly everyday). So while waiting for the volunteer-call-time @ 5:30, my friends and I took a lovely stroll around the building to kill some time and....well see what else was around. :wink3: Walking around the venue we caught a glimpse of the tour's parking area, and heard Shearwater doing soundchecks/warmups as we were going around the back end of the venue. *sigh* Nothing too crazy happened (although I could've sworn I saw Phil :shocked2:, but then I figured that he had to be inside the venue already with the guys....so it might've been someone else? :\). Then right around the other side was the KROQ booth with the couch and KROQ-ed out Escalades. Hahahh I should've just gone up to them and say 'hi,' but my friends and I chickened out and so the guys there were probably thinking we were weird since we kept passing by them and stare at the area ((and on a side-note, I'm still partly bitter about the horrible ordeal + aftermath with the KROQ-Coldplay contests!)). :dozey:
Soooo....then 5:30PM was only a few minutes away and I pretty much headed off to the meeting area for Oxfam volunteers. It was great meeting everyone, by the way (I know Freddie lurks around here somewhere....LoL HI again! :)), and after an hour of orientation we headed off into the venue. For the rest of the work time, my experience has been wonderful! LA folks tend to be 'jaded' in ways, but what surprised me the most was how many people showed or developed an interest in this organization, regardless. For those of you who took some time to listen and allow yourselves to know about Oxfam, THANK YOU! <3
Well right around 9:20-ish, the crowd goes off and after getting my ticket from Pete, I was thinking "OMG IT'S STARTING!!!" :o so I placed (....or tossed, LoL) the signups/pins/stickets/postcards down on the table and made a run for it into the concert! Linh (another Oxfam volunteer) and I had a hard time finding our seats, at CONNOLADE 7, ROW 21!! :( Sorry, I know I shouldn't be in a position to complain at all, but that a downgrade from my original seat @ Loge 8 (I ended up giving that to Stephanie, aka StephBerryman. BTW Steph: sorry we couldn't meet up in time, but I hope you had fun at the concert. And thank you again! :)). Anyway, that was just two seconds of regret, but the concert was well underway, at the time going into "Violet Hill", so my negativities were immediately pushed to the side.
(to be continued...LoL just a minute, please :D)

Part of what I meant by the band's output also relates to the number of "piped-in" tracks and instruments included in the songs that band members weren't actually playing. That's what was so great about Coldplay's 1st two albums, they were so natural and musically simple. Now, you've got a violin track that starts of Viva, Chris didn't even play the organ in Lost, and during Lovers in Japan he played the intro and fully got up and danced around with the piano still somehow playing!
I purposely didn't read anything about last night or the NYC show, because I wanted tonight to be a total surprise from start to finish. And, I'd heard Coldplay is really shitty when it comes to mixing up their setlists, so I for sure didn't want to spoil anything.
But yeah, Daniel, you got me on most of those points. I always say that it's best to go to a concert and just enjoy it, take it in for what it is. If you have 2-3 songs that you HAVE to hear in order for it to be a good show, you'll often be let down. I was definitely a hypocrite in that respect regarding tonight's show!

NOW the juicy stuff (sorry for blabbing so far! :embarassed: but i'll make this short since i have to go to bed, right now!):
~Right from the beginning the boys sounded SO GOOD! Chris was just full of energy, along with Johnny, Will, and Guy (though Guy's a bit more subdued, I assume...).
~"Clocks" came on and *squeee* LASERS!! LoL my first time seeing lasers done for "Clocks" live too!
~"Viva La Vida" was so exciting, to hear EVERYONE sing along!!!
~when Chris spent a minute to say "HI" to everyone, he went on something like this: "Hello. We're the older members of the Jonas Brothers. We are no way involved with Miley Cyrus..." :stunned::laugh3::laugh3: ROFL <3
~42 was AMAZING! LOL and Chris made us sing the last two lines again, cause it actually sounded so good with most of us singing along in-tune. :D
~Yes! was played, all to my heart's desire :wink3: ((too bad the people around me were sitting down :angry:))
~Chinese Sleep Chant was....errmm...quite interesting. Hahah I definitely saw the blank faces of people around, watching. :laugh3:
~the techno-ed version of "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face." IT SOUNDED SO GOOD, to my surprise! the reworking of that song was done just right! <3
~Johnny was just nailing all of the great guitar-ing at the concert! GO JOHNNY!
~it seemed like i was the only one around my area, throughout the second half of the concert, was rilling up everyone to excitement! LoL i was consistently the first one to recognize the next song (just by hearing the first 2 or 3 notes :smug:) and was cheering out and stuff. :embarassed: :D
~CHRIS F*CKED UP DURING "THE SCIENTIST" (my absolute-favorite song!!) :stunned::angry::P
~BEST PART OF MY NIGHT: so my seat turned out to be 'worse' than the one i had originally bought. :( BUUUUT....when the boys ran up to play in the crowd, THEY WERE ACTUALLY A SECTION AWAY FROM ME! I had snuck in my really-good camera too, so the pics and footage turned out nicely! ((semi-perv moment: GOD those guys look amazing in-person...Chris, Guy, and Will at one point turned around towards the general direction of where I was and....*SQUEEE!!!*:wacky:)). So I guess in the end, the seats worked out JUST fine! I can't believe I got to be that close to them after all!! :)
~The footage w/ that old senile geezer commenting on how Coldplay steals other people's music. *Cue the collective 'booos and hisses' from the audience!* :smug:
~Fix You was beautiful!
~"Lovers in Japan" = confetti galore!! *squeeeee* And HAHAHAH we actually got to see clearly the stage personnel on top dumping the boxes of confetti down on the audience.
~Death and All His Friends....LOOOVED it when the music kicks in and the VIVA background drops down! <3
*SIGH!* I can't believe it was over after that! I would LOVE for it to keep going, but obviously that wasn't going to happen. :( Nonetheless, GREAT JOB COLDPLAY! You guys are proving well to be stepping it up after all!
Soooo then, to quickly sum it up on my part, I stayed back with the Oxfam volunteers and did a bit more scouting/recruiting on signups, had a group picture, and finally left the venue to go eat at In-N-Out with my friends that i completely missed seeing throughout the concert (between the four of us, i ended up getting separate seats, so they weren't together with each other as well). We've compared stories and concert footages as well. One of my friends ended up with the BEST seat (Loge 10, Row E) and seriously had the time of her life cause it was her first Coldplay concert ever! The other two were nearest the stage, but seated higher, yet managed to....*ahem* seat-hop throughout the show. :dozey:
Didn't get any concert goodies, other than Oxfam buttons/stickers, and the butterfly confetti on the floor from "Lovers in Japan." I'll be over @ the San Jose gig this Friday, so the party doesn't exactly stop yet! :D

I loved it! As the concert-goers came into the venue, many folks were willing to give Oxfam some attention, and MUCH to my surprise, given that this was L.A. (people here are just so.....*groans* most of the time  ), some of the people I had a chance to speak/talk with soon became really interested in what the organization had to do, and were willing to join the cause and take action! Overall, it was fun to meet new people and help spread the word. This only made my concert-going much more exciting! :nice:
So yeah, definitely try it out! The other volunteers, I noticed, had an awesome time as well. Really, it's a great way to go meet and mingle with various people at a concert, and it's something for anyone to take action into promoting a great cause.

I already sent in my app. for the Orlando show but wanted to hear first hand from someone who did it. I think it sounds like fun and its a great organization to support. Hope I get picked!:)

lilylove, parking is $22 if you are in the immediate parking lot surrounding the forum. It's $20 for the other parking lot, which is about a 10-minute walk to the Forum. I'm going to try to get there early tonight too. Last night, it took us 45 minutes to do less than 2 miles to get to the Forum once we exited from the 405.
HINT. TAKE 105 NEXT TIME AND TAKE PARIE RD, ITS A LOCAL SECRET!

That was such an outstanding show last night! I had so much fun. I was sitting in Loge 24, Row G, which was parallel to the stage and only four rows away from it so I had an excellent view of the gorgeous Mr. Berryman. :D
I thought it was awesome that most of the setlist was comprised of the new album's tracks. While I do wish I could see "Everything's Not Lost" or "Warning Sign" played live again one of these days, I was realy pleased to hear all my favorites off the new album played. I was kinda surprised "Viva La Vida" was played so early, it seems like it would be a better song to play towards the end. I also thought Will's solo part was lovely. It was nice to see most of the floor standing up the whole time- even though my section was close to the stage, the people in front of me seemed like they were VIPs or just had freebie tickets because they sat down every chance they could. And I had constant talkers sitting next to me and behind me...grrrrr. Oh and in addition to the list of celebs last night, I saw Blake Sennett from Rilo Kiley and The Elected walking around (Unfortunately I didn't see if he had Winona Ryder with him.)
I've got one video uploaded so far and it's a clip of my favorite part of "42":
http://www.vimeo.com/1351254 I still have "The Scientist" and bits of other songs to upload later.
I can't wait for the Vegas show this weekend!

I paid ticket price the day of the show and got 2nd row riser seats. Great seats I must say!
Talk to me when you see the cure and you get a three and a half hour show. There is no need to respond to someones post because they complain about the tix price. Tix prices were out of control, and that is at the box office.
Squirl Jam is still around, I had no clue!

My boyfriend and I went down to the forum ticketless. I have done the scene for years, so I knew I would be able to get tickets in order: box office, then a fellow fan, and the dreadful scalper. I got tickets at the box office but I had to wait over an hour, well worth it!!!!!!!!!
We took the 105 W and got off of praie b/c everyone else was on Manchester. It is an old local secrect!!!!!
Yes, I admit ticket prices were a bit high but I think it is like everything else in this world; INFLATION! We got riser seats in the floor a little above the floor seats. We were a little above the heads of peeps on the floor. Great stage view!
My review:
I have seeen them 6 plus times since ROBTTH. My first show was the El Ray show back in the day. All of the shows during that time lasted farrrrr less than 75 mins, so I knew with 4 albums I would get at least 90 mins of music. Its not the cure who play for three hours, lol. I could have or should say liked a 2 hr set but I took what I got and ran with my memories!!! All of you should do the same.
The set was very good for opening night w/ a few miss haps to be expected. I knew going into the show that most of the set would be the new album but that was ok b/c this is the viva tour:)
The crowd was awesome. One of the best crowds i have ever seen at a CP show and all the shows I have been to ( that is alot). I love the energy, the wave while waiting for the late arriving show start. I heard a roadie mention they were still in traffiic or the touring staff, was not sure.
No need to go song by song. I took the songs that get me in my heart (most of them) and left the show with a smile.
It almost seems they have taken the role of U2 with all of the stage effects!
Peace out everyone. Drink ur Granda today!
PS not a new memeber, just changed emails and could not get password!

I will add that I had an awesome section. I think I helped getting people pumped. I was relatively quiet before the concert. I told the couple next to me that it will be an awesome show.
I was standing the whole time. Singing to most songs, stopped when I started losing my voice.
I wish they played "Swallowed In the Sea" as well. One of, if not, my favorite Coldplay song. I also really, really, wanted to hear "Cemeteries of London". I like "Yes", but I think it slowed down the concert a little bit.
I loved the neon confetti action.
I did take some pictures with my camera phone, but it's a crappy 1.3 megapixel phone. It only basically gives you the idea of where I was sitting. I'm a good photographer, but not with my phone.
Also, during "Clocks", I think Chris changed one of the lines in the beginning, does anyone know what he said? I heard lots of "whooos!" after it.

What a great show. They get better and better each time I see them. I have too many favorite moments to recap them all. The crowd was amazing... we were totally Venti. I knew it would be a good crowd since it was the 1st and original LA date to go on sale. The neon confetti was wonderful. I took home pocketfuls of it. I loved all the little mistakes... it honestly makes me love them more. I loved when Chris did somersaults and rolled around on the ramps. I loved it all. I could hardly take any video because I was dancing and singing too much to hold the camera steady. I wanted to buy a tote bag but they were sold out by the time I got to the front of the line. :(
Ohhhh man. Anybody going to get Leno tickets tomorrow morning?? Camp out??

LINE OF THE NIGHT
So I’m wandering the Forum floor, looking for Lisa and Brooks, and I run into Dave. He’s just upgraded a young couple from the cheap seats to the first five rows. They’re giddy, in a state of disbelief, and I say I want to go on his next mission, into the stratosphere, to rescue some more real fans.
Dave’s eyes light up, we get ready to ascend the stairs, but we can’t lay our hands on any more tickets. They’ve all been given away. All five front rows have been populated.
So Dave asks if I want to meet the band.
I say no. This is always a waste of time. Something for the mental scrapbook, something to whip out to show others what a hotshot you are when really the band has no fucking clue who you are. But Dave said Chris knew who I was. Thinking this was possible, since Chris’ best friend, the fifth member of Coldplay, had said at dinner that Chris reads everything about him, takes the temperature of Coldplay fans, even in chat rooms, I agreed.
So, we enter the bowels of the Forum and Dave tells me to wait a second, he wants to go into the dressing room first.
That’s cool.
Upon emerging, Dave says Chris is going to come to us, that we should sit in the "Family Room" and await him. And we’re doing so, catching up on the band’s history, its decision to do the iTunes commercial, which at first the band was reluctant to do, and a small black man enters and he and Dave strike up a conversation. Does he need a bottle of water? No, he’s afraid he’s going to have to pee during the show. Feeling the exact same way, I mention this and when this gentleman turns to look at me I realize it’s Kanye West.
I’m stunned. He’s absent all the attitude, all the chutzpah paraded in the press. He’s nice. He’s gentle. And he’s young. I can’t believe how young he is. THIS is the guy everyone believes is such a terror?
After talking for a while, we decide to venture into the band’s dressing room ourselves. Where Dave introduces me to Chris, who looks at me like he’s never heard of me before. Feeling like every other dumb ass loser, I pipe up that I’m the one who writes the newsletter. Ah, the nod of recognition. Chris is introducing me to the rest of the band. I can’t believe they’re so calm before the show, I wouldn’t want to hang with unknowns minutes before going on stage. And then, Kanye asks my last name…
And I start telling Chris not to listen to the critics. To just do what he wants. That the haters have an agenda. And Chris tells me he doesn’t hate anybody, not even Bill O’Reilly.
I’m making no headway here. Chris Martin is just too nice.
So I decide to switch subjects. I decide to get into it with Kanye. I start talking about Bonnaroo.
And Kanye says to me: I DON’T TAKE THE HIGH ROAD!
MARTY, ET AL
That’s the first recognizable face I saw in the corridors of the Forum. Marty Diamond and ultimately his New York Paradigm team. And after discussing dogs, finally meeting up with Dave Holmes, we go to have dinner.
Which is quite a spread. The lamb chops were best. But I couldn’t resist the desserts. A pecan pie and some chocolate concoction that was perfectly sweet.
Dave told me about the festival he’s doing north of the border, just east of Whistler, Pemberton. How they’ve already sold in excess of 35,000 tickets, are in the black.
And we get into a discussion of V.I.P ticketing.
That’s when Dave and Marty tell me about their solution. The aforementioned upgrade. They leave the first five rows blank and install real fans. And they were right. Because during the show, these people were animated, they stood, and those who bought their tickets from StubHub behind them remained seated. Still, I thought that V.I.P. was best, because the thing most people want is A ticket. Price is secondary. Which Rapino confirmed, but I’m getting ahead of myself. With so few tickets actually for sale, and the inability to get a good one, the fan feels fucked. And, speaking of being fucked, it was $22 to park at the Forum. The band and the promoter get none of this, but they do end up getting hated for it. Can’t we get everybody on the same page?
And Marty told of telling one of his acts to cut extra lights, a truck and personnel to save money on the road.
And then we discussed Mt. Everest, and the Live Nation team entered the room.
RAPINO
Nick Masters was telling me that home construction had finally caught up with Glen Helen. I’m taking his word for it, the last time I went there, in 2000, to see AC/DC, I felt lucky to emerge with my life.
Nick said business was good. Especially in San Diego, which had been soft the summer before. People want to come to shows. And, they’re doing innovative marketing, like 4-Packs.
And then Michael Rapino entered the room.
I tell you, Rapino can give Steve Jobs a run for his money, when it comes to the reality distortion field. They’ve both got their routine down so well, and deliver it so smoothly, that you can’t see any holes. You’re closed.
Rapino says Live Nation’s not for sale.
But I asked him how many times his mentor Michael Cohl had sold his company.
But Rapino said Cohl was gone.
Their goal is to have a trust relationship with the artist, and allow them to maximize their revenue by selling a ton of different products.
Like with Nickelback… The label could no longer say no. That had been the problem, the label wouldn’t approve anything. Now you could sell/give away a t-shirt with the music, with a ticket. All the revenue flowed into one pot, it was good for everybody.
And it’s all about the Website. Collecting e-mail addresses and maximizing revenue.
Michael brought up some things I couldn’t believe. Like giving regular customers better service, i.e. better tickets! He spoke of personally answering customer complaints. Told how sometimes the customer was right, had thought of things he and his team had not.
This was not your father’s music business.
But Live Nation is still dependent upon acts. And Rapino said that wasn’t their focus. They were a buyer of talent, not a builder.
At least he was honest.
THE SHOW
I’m hanging with the manager of Depeche Mode. I’m telling him they should play the Super Bowl. How it’s a perfect fit. They’ve got the audience and the NFL needs the edge. And Rick Rubin appears. And then Kanye. And then Jonah Hill. He and Kanye high five. It’s like the cliche…does everybody in showbiz know each other?
And it’s not until ten minutes into the show that I realize I’m sitting next to Eva Longoria and Tony Parker. These people, if they weren’t famous, you wouldn’t stare. But since they are, it’s hard not to.
Eva fell asleep in the middle of the show. She and Tony left early. But Rick didn’t. He was nodding his head, he had his hands in the air, just like everybody else.
Point is, THE AUDIENCE LOVED IT!
I could break the show down in detail, but that’s not the point. You pay your money, you want to have a good time. Coldplay delivered.
The highlight was an intimate, almost acoustic set, right in front of me, on a lighted floor. They were playing live, no tapes, no hard drive, they get props for that!
And then, two-thirds of the way through the show, they ran up to the rafters and performed a two song truly acoustic set, including "Yellow".
There was production, white hanging balls with projectors inside… No one was going to complain he didn’t get his money’s worth.
AFTER SHOW
I saw Mark Burnett in the Forum Club, wearing a scarf. He may be a zillionaire, but he was out of his element.
And Kate Bosworth… Fewer lip injections and more meals and I might be interested.
Zach Braff was casual.
Yes, the stars came out. Because the band’s that big and it’s L.A. The haters are those who can’t get in, those who love bands that can’t draw.
CONCLUSION
It’s supposed to be an event. Your adrenaline is supposed to pump, you’re supposed to feel fully alive. You’re supposed to connect with the music, listening to it in so many environments in your life and finally hearing it LIVE! FEELING it live.
This is an experience that can’t be stolen. You can’t see it on television, not at a movie theatre. Can one have sympathy for record labels singing the blues after they purveyed mindless, evanescent crap that only looked good in those media, sucked live? To make it today, you’ve got to be able to play, you’ve got to be able to sing. You’ve got to be able to touch people’s lives.
It’s not Doug Morris’ world, it’s Michael Rapino’s.
But most of all, it’s Chris Martin’s.
You dream of making it. You work harder than anybody else and your prayers are answered. It’s hard to stay on an even keel. And when you feel that hit of adoration as the lights go down, the curtain goes up and you start to sing, you know there’s no place you’d rather be. With the audience with its heads in the air, singing to the heavens the songs you wrote. That are part of their lives as much as their parents and significant others. There’s power in this music, that’s why these musicians are stars. Not because they’re gossiped about on TMZ, not because they’re written about. It all comes down to the music. A critical mass of people love Coldplay’s music. And that’s what it’s all about.

I am also confused on the whole "real fans" thing, some of the people that I saw wearing the VIP passes did not look like they were "real fans," they looked like they had better things to do. "real fans" to me, means, those that were so excited to see coldplay after so long, they were shaking a little in the seats, that did not sit down the whole show, that cant talk right now because his throat hurts so much from screaming, that is still a little shaky, They knew every song, have their vinyl, and they know that the REMIX of TALK (Thin White Duke Edit) was what was on after Will sang (even though its no where to be found in any set lists that are posted GRRRR...). Those are the real fans...

I was standing the whole time. Singing to most songs, stopped when I started losing my voice.
I think I was singing too much because my voice is shot all to hell! :laugh3: Totally worth it though! :D

Considering that some of us are going to be passing out signs for the Philadelphia show, I wonder if we will get asked to move up to the VIP section... :)

i think some of the VIPs had to be contest winners. a few of them ARE big fans (i met one or two of them before the gig started), but then again...i hear you out. most of the time the folks that get to be directly in the front are there cause they've got 'connections' or among those 'privileges'

sorry guys i was going to post as soon as i got home from the concert last night but i drove all the way to san diego by myself and i was completely WORN OUT. Honestly that might have been the best time ive EVER had in my life as that was my first but not last Coldplay concert. I was sitting in Loge 7 row C and those seats were pretty damn good. Didnt sit down for a minute when they came out and lost my damn voice halfway through their set. Only little gripe i had is that they did not play Trouble. That song is my FAVORITE and I was just waiting for it to come on but it didnt....other that everything was perfect!!! Chris was absolutely crazy and I loved how he messed up and we all just ended up laughing. Loved the Starbucks reference and the magic balls kicked ass. It was so worth the money for the ticket even though they werent out there for 2 hours. I would do it again in a heartbeat!! I hope that everyone who is going to their future dates enjoy themselves as much as i did bc it was a wonderful and breath taking experience that I will NEVER forget.

Proving her excellent taste in music, Katherine Heigl, joined by husband Josh Kelley, was spotted on her way into the Forum in Los Angeles last night to catch Coldplay in concert.
The “27 Dresses” cutie looked excited to be checking out one of the hottest bands in the world, sporting a black jacket, black trousers and a white collared shirt.
And the drama surrounding her decision to pull herself from the Emmys keeps on rolling. Now there are reports that her character on Grey’s Anatomy, Dr. Izzie Stevens, may be given a brain tumor in the upcoming season.
An insider revealed, “[Producer] Shonda [Rhimes]and the writers are pissed at her. It’s their way of screwing with her. She won’t know whether she’s going to live or die.”

i think that when a show is sold out then if any area like VIP or general
if the seats are totally sold, then no one can do anything for it to give tickets to others.Because its sold out.
what ever it is it might be celebs or general people.
either oxfam or any other like concert organisers can only give seats to the people if any are left over, if they're not left then what can any one do to give tickets.
They've to be placed on the heads of some or some persons then.

Who isn't going to see Coldplay? I mean, even Miley Cyrus likes them!
Yes, that's Leonardo DiCaprio - making a rare appearance! - hiding underneath a ballcap outside the Coldplay concert in Inglewood last night... and who was in the car with him? BFF Tobey Maguire and wife Jennifer Meyer!
What about behind Leo, though - is that Bar?

I'm really glad pictures were posted so I could actually see the show! We were at the Tuesday, July 15th show at the Forum, yet I feel like I missed it. The musical performance was amazing, without doubt. But, due to our unfortunate seats in the rear of the venue, we couldn't see a thing. The orbs were really cool, but they aren't a replacement for the big screens. There was a tremendous screen behind the band that they turned on for the finale, and I just don't understand why it wasn't on for the whole show. It was fantastic to view the whole audience, but the lights on stage were pretty dark for most of evening, and it would have been so much better to view the band themselves.
I saw X&Y at Irvine and was just so impressed with the wall of light and the performance value. We had much better tickets to that show, but with all the screens, you would have been able to see the performance from anywhere in the venue. With the Vida la Viva tour, you really have to have good seats.

Was a fun show. My opinion was pretty much like like some others. The show overall was really tasty, & Really got rockin somewhere 'bout midway on. Fix you, square one, yellow, probably my favs. Not to be a hater, but I think they sounded a tad better a few years ago, but couldve been the arena . . I absolutely hated those damn orbs . . ya, they're cool for a track or two, but without a big screen, which they had back there, big venues suck when ya dont use them. what were they thinking!?! At least the sound was fairly good, but couldve been a lil' louder. Staples acoustics suck, so I'm willing to deal with the moldy old sweltering hot forum in that respect & the horribly cramped seating. what really made the show great was having my lady with me as their goods can get somewhat romantic & leads to a lot of kissing. People were making out everywhere!!! Leave it to Coldplay. This is one show you dont want to go stag.
I know it doesnt sound it, cuz I'm just a bit critical, but Overall had a blast, so thanks COLDPLAY for the kick ass performance.

In this video it looks like Chris gets help from an prerecorded voice at the end, when he drops down the mic :stunned: Or is this voice from the other member? I hope so...:\
You're more observant than most! Literally 1/2 that show was pre-recorded instruments or background vocals and Chris jumping around like a monkey. A talented band doesn't need backing tracks to play along with. :embarassed:

No, they are a great band. I'm merely suggesting all this Brian Eno orchestra extremely overproduced sound stuff from the new album might have been a misstep...

OK... it's been a long day at work after a shagadelic night ... yes Coldplay is a GREAT band to take your significant other too. Romance was most definitely in the air...
Heah give that Eva a break... she was probably on the set for a very long time recently for DHW ... I'm sure Chris could give a hoot ... he knows how big a band they are now ... he doesn't need a celeb staying awake during his show to validate himself or the band...
Here are some cool pix I got when they played at the end of the catwalk (just 3 rows in front of us!!!:D) enjoy...

Yeah, I have to admit that most of the new songs don't translate live, or at least not at the scale that a four piece band can re-produce live. Don't get me wrong, some of the songs came off great live -- like Lovers In Japan and Lost, for example. But the ones that bombed dragged down the show.
Which, actually, was probably my main complaint of an overall amazing show: the set list.
It started off fine, but the momentum of the show dropped off completely with 42 and then Yes. The Scientist, while one of my favorite songs, wasn't the best way to get that momentum back, and then it was time for the side stage songs (which were great for me, as my fiance and I were right there in front of them, but, again, didn't build a lot of momentum).
It was also strange that they had that techno fill after the set and before the first encore, and then came back and started that encore with "Fix You." It was a great perfomance of a great song, but there was a moment in the beginning that was just weird, because they'd gone from the techno music to a heart felt ballad. It would have seemed more natural had they come out rockin'.
Again, it was a great show, it really was. It was just a bit inconsistent.

OMG!!! We sat FRONT ROW!!!!
My cousin and I got there early and decided to go find our seats, which were in the colonade section right beside the stage. So we get there and are sitting down for a bit and suddenly this girl comes up to us and asks us if we are together and we say yes. Then she asks to see our tickets. She looks at them and says, "would you guys like to sit front row?". "I work for Coldplay so you can trade these seats for ones up front." Im like WHHAT?!!!! OMG! I went crazy!!! We ran down to the floor section screaming cause we couldnt believe it. It was amazing and such a beautiful, life changing experience. I've never been so close to Chris!!! He was just gorgeous, better than what i expected. Anyway, here are some pics I took from FRONT ROW!!!!
