Hey guys. I just saw this short article that has a link to what they call "lovers in japan/reign of love", however, this is the same song that was in the Grey's Video. I only wonder if its different because it does sound slightly different in quality terms. Nevertheless, it should be only Lovers in Japan, not Reign of Love.

^ what do you mean you have a link to it?

i did read somewhere that the grey's song was only lovers in japan - they are TWO separate songs...

I don't think that's lovers in Japan.

I mean I want to,
but debs said that it was definitely not lovers in japan and was Death and all his friends, however, the lyrics aren't the same as the ones for D&AHF's on the artwork on coldplay.com. so.....I'm confused. HURRY UP ALBUM!

Ya its just lovers as far as people have concluded :)

someone's just got confused about the whole double-song on one track thing and written an article :P

you're no dumbass ;)

its not lovers in japan...debs from coldplay.com forums said that it is infact Death And All His Friends (greys anatomy website also confirmed that as well)

The Q review also confirms that the song is Death And All His Friends.

Definitely DAAHF.

but lyrics tell about 2 lovers and the song has a japanese sound at the end... very strange if it's DAAHF! and locust said it's LiJ cause probably he heard it.
what did Q magazine exactly say about it? I can't find the full article anywhere...

The scans have been removed, but the article mentions that the song "Death and all His Friends" includes "just be patient and don't worry."

okay, this thread needs to be talked about. i was sure that the song we had heard was lovers in japan (from the greys), if its death and all his friends that changes quite a bit. i dont see how it could be, its got nothing to do with death, and i didnt think it matched any of the stuff they talked about in the articles about how it sounds

The two most reliable sources we have, Debs and Q, suggest that the song is DAAHF.

The fact that the song doesn't contain the website artwork's lyrics is irrelevant. It was evidently editted for Grey's Anatomy anyway. Q say that the lyrics "just be patient and don't worry" are in DAAHF: they're not very likely to be wrong, really, are they?

RunForTheHills
30-05-2008, 08:38 PM
Yep, it's probably DAAHF now. It must be just heavily edited, because it says the final refrain is "I don't want to follow Death and all his friends". We'll get to hear the full version in 2 weeks time anyway :nice:

PS - I always thought this song would make a great closer! Thats the only thing that I found odd about the proposition of it being Lovers In Japan... it doesn't really sound like a song that would be in the middle of the album.

I still think it's lovers.

Q's online of the album says this about D&AHF's

:: Death And All His Friends
Melancholy piano segues into spangling guitars and a male choir exalting, “I don’t wanna follow death and all of his friends!” Vocals recorded in an art gallery in Barcelona that was once the medical room of an ancient nunnery.
Will Champion: “This is us singing all together and then another us singing together. The Coldplay Choir. And it had an echo that lasted for a long, long time. When we did a lot of group singing we just roped in whoever was around. Studio engineers, whoever.”

that's not even SLIGHTLY like the track we've got

yeah i suppose. the way chris talked about lovers in japan led me to think it would also be a little more, i dunno, about love...and while what we heard definitely was, it wasnt what i expected. so this is good news i guess.

probably the instrumental part has lyrics in the final version (although I wonder why there should be 2 different edits)...
the DAAHF lyrics in the artwork are:

"No I don't want to battle from beginning to end
I don't want cycle of recycled revenge
I don't want to follow death and all of his friends..."

effectively they fit if you try to sing them on the instrumental part...
anyway we''ll solve this thing in just 2 weeks...

The version from grey's might not have been the album version...

Kinda how kanye's "Good Life" on entourage was different on the album.

that's not even SLIGHTLY like the track we've gotIf I could reference the Q article, I would. I think it could very well be DAAHF now. First point, the song has been edited for Grey's Anatomy, so we're missing parts of the song. Secondly, maybe that "HUMMMMMM..." you can hear when the band kicks in is the 'Coldplay Choir', but its just low in the mix. Not as loud as we were expecting. Thirdly, the song might not even be the album version for all we know. Either that or they removed the words in the second "instrumental" part of the song just for the show's scene.

But I don't know, I'm not too sure either :\
The thing that gets me is how someone who has listened to the album already, can forget what the CLOSER of the album sounds like. Surely that would be one of the songs more likely to stick with you after first listen?

And if it DOES turn out to be Lovers In Japan (which I think may be unlikely at this point), then why the HELL would 2 credible sources, Q and Debs Wild, get something as simple as a song title, mixed up or wrong? I just can't see it happening.

*sigh* We'll see in 2 weeks time I guess

I get what you're saying.
I just don't see why they would edit out the lyrics from the painting on coldplay.com. they're the opening lyrics from the song and it does sound like the beginning of the song on the version we have, though I suppose you can't really disagree with Debs and Q. :\

oh, and can I point out, I ALWAYS said Locust was lying :P

Knotty
30-05-2008, 09:17 PM
How do we know the other lyrics that are 'missing' are the opening lyrics?

Locust can't be trusted. OK - his Violet Hill review struck some chords, but that didn't mean he'd heard the album, especially as VH was the first single. Of all the people on here that we've forgotten about after finding out they were wrong, there was bound to be someone who got reasonably close and people swarmed (like locusts) around them.

I just can't take seriously people who claim to have heard the entire album but have no concrete evidence in the form of LYRICS. NONE of these people post any of the hooks, any of the stand-out lines of the vocals. It's all very well writing that it's an epic which builds and drops; some people are always going to end up agreeing with you, and others won't. Lyrics are the only definitive proof that someone's heard a song because they're the bit nobody can get lucky on.

Q and Debs Wild will not have got this wrong; the song is DAAHF and the bits of lyrics we haven't heard were editted out. I certainly WOULD describe the piano at the beginning as melancholy and definitely 'spangling guitars' is one way of describing the direction of the instrumental. Just because we haven't heard the choir doesn't mean it's not been cut out.

It's probably just the 'acoustic' version of DAAHF, just like Lost? was. Just be patient, and don't worry;)

RunForTheHills
30-05-2008, 09:45 PM
How can it be acoustic, when it features electric guitar, a full drumkit and an amped-up bassline. As WELL as the piano we hear at the beginning?

MasoKnight
30-05-2008, 10:01 PM
The Q article said "Death and all His Friends" features the line "just be patient and don't worry". That settles it. The song we've heard is NOT Lovers in Japan.

johnnymax865
30-05-2008, 10:06 PM
I read NME article again and DAAHF is also described as a lullaby... effectively it is. the only thing missing is the Coldplay Choir and then there's no doubt it's DAAHF

Hotplay007
30-05-2008, 10:18 PM
So it's DAAHF? ok then.

mountainloafers
30-05-2008, 10:33 PM
Im so confused now... Maybe its neither. Im leaning towards DAAHF. But like most of the rest of you Im starting not to trust anyone and will have to wait and see.

why did nobody listen to me when I said locust7 was bullshitting us from the get go?

"Violet hill has not a single note of falsetto in it, as chris sings lower, sexier, like the review said"

"I don't remember any lyrics, except for the ones the review said"

oh please.... what a loads of balls.

I PM'd him about and he said in response

"It must have been a rough version I heard, and chris must have re-recorded all of his vocals"

oh, okay then

I actually don't care that much. I can wait another two weeks 'til I know the name of the song. All that matters is it's brilliant. :smug:

what about what everybodystilllovesandrew said? he seemed to confirm that it was lovers in japan, and he seems like a pretty stand up guy. It doesn't seem particularly death and all his friends-ish. i know Debs and Q have said it, but I've never really felt like debs cares to make sure the fans are informed about something that doesn't involve us spending money. I know that's a little harsh, but i used to post ceaselessly on the coldplay boards and i got a bad taste in my mouth from over there.

by the way, hello everyone. i've been watching your conversations and news updates for years now. You've been an integral part of me de-stressing from work since the last days of X&Y, so i thought i'd come and hang out. Hi all.

Now why i continue to keep thinking over and over in my head about this Lovers/Death debate I don't know lol But I''m thinking maybe what I thought was Death was actually Strawberry Swing?? Which could be possible despite every gut feeling I have saying no. A part of me still thinks this was Lovers in Japan while the other part of me is debating myself thanks to Q and Debs. Hopefully one of those sites selling CDS will post clips those clips very very soon.

Also thanks for the stand up guy comment. thats awesome lol

haha no worries. couple of my mates have been to listening parties (just came back from being in england for a month so i missed them all) and they came out with much the same reactions as you had. and you answered all those questions, and shared with everyone. seems like a cool thing to do.

the part that mystifies me... if you take out the lyric "i don't wanna follow death and all his friends" or whatever it is, from the actual song, there's no reason to title the song or album that, because there's no referent. And that bit of Grey's is focused on death. And anyone who's watched Grey's before knows, if they're using a song that has their actual theme in it, they will edit the dialogue so you hear dashboard confessional or whoever saying "LOVE" inappropriately loud. So it seems that while Meredith is monologuing about death over and over again, they'd slap that little "I DON"T WANNA FOLLOW DEATH AND ALL HIS FRIENDS!" bit on. Because that'd be the obvious thing to do.

So, either everybody's incredibly confused (which given the title/album tracklisting / disc number confusion on every retail site and fan board on the internet, might not be that far off), or some sound editor / producer for Grey's missed a big opportunity.

Until it's 100% definately confirmed as DAAHF (which is when I hear it) I'm still believing this is Lovers in Japan. I've gotten quite attached to the title now, and I'm thinking this song is too much like Amsterdam to be the album closer, they wanted to go in a different direction didn't they?

Edit - I'm not even sure myself anymore...

johnnymax865

I've finally read the Q article and not only reports that line for DAAHF but reports a different line for LiJ, too: "runners untill the race is run, soldiers you've got to soldier on"....
I'm going to rename the file, I think

Famous Old Painter

Now I'm definately unsure about this... is it DAAHF?

Bah, shouldn't matter, I'm gonna delete all the samples, rips and other things when the album comes out and replace it with the proper album, with proper titles and all.
