Just 'cause it isn't a leap forward doesn't mean it's bad. X&Y wasn't even a step forward as far as I'm concerned yet it's probably my favourite Coldplay record.

Maybe it's polyrhythm. I know that the time signatures that confuse me the most are simple ones where two instruments are each in a different time signature. For example... "Kashmir". (Drums 4/4, orchestra 3/4)

Other examples:
"Fitted Shirt" by Spoon (Guitar 3/4, drums in verses 4/4)
"Happiness Is A Warm Gun" by The Beatles (During the "When I hold you in my arms" section, drums in 4/4, everything else in 3/4)
"Does It Really Happen?" by Yes (During chorus, drums in 4/4, vocals 11/4 [3/4-3/4-5/8-5/8])

Definitely 4/4 ... if you can't get it, use twice as many beats while you're going along with it- it works out eventually. The start doesn't work because they cut off something- a couple of beats are missing as it fades in.

Great find. Neat to see Guy finally get to show off his crazy funk skills. And that's the second song we've heard with a hiphop sort of beat... that works too.

Haha no I rated the SAMPLE dude, obviously I'm not judging the whole song. I liked what I heard A LOT because we're finally getting a better taste of the other band members besides Chris and Jonny. And I forgot to mention you hear WAY more of Guy as well. The bass line is killer. But the sample gets an 8/10 cause it sounds different from the norm of Coldplay we're used to. I'm not saying I'm afraid of this new sound, but I'm definitely still getting used to it. If the sample sounded like rubbish then I would give it a rubbish rating. But nor is it a perfectly incredible sample of music that I would listen to over and over by itself. But it was still very cool for how short it was.

An 8/10 for the clip of Coldplay's new sound. ;)

As long as it's a high quality leak, then I'll download without hesitation. But if all the tracks sound damp and muffled like the current version of LIT we have, then I wouldn't download it, because that would ruin the experience.

Here's where the dilemma lies. If you live in a country where the album isn't released until after the few few does that really count as a leak or just "previewing" what so many others can already own? I mean I have a 6 day difference between Japan and me in Canada between the release.
This is why I would not be shocked if one week in advance it's up for sale on itunes. It happens very often.

EMI would literally MURDER everyone who works there. really... think about how secure theyve already been being with the listening party, removal of youtube videos, lack of leak, etc. trust me... if this ever did get out early... it wouldn't be because of an itunes mistake.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Not a mistake. A negotiated prerelease release. Thinking from a business point of view. 6 days between japan and North america. How many people will download it for free because they can not purchase it yet? How many of those people would pay us if they could get it? For a label so desperate for money it's the only logical thing to do.

Am I the only one didn't think there was anything exciting about this preview? The song could still be amazing, and this could just be a bridge or small riff, but I think it is really repetetive and dull. It sounds like the guitar riffs from White Shadows for sure, hence many think it sounds very X&Yish.

Who knows, this could still be the incredible song they have been talking about, its only a few short seconds. I just think there isn't enough to it to say its the most amazing thing already.

Finally I can hear something of the VLVODAAHF song I was expecting the most... I'm at work now and I though that this stupid firewall would stop me from listesting but thankfully it didn't... although I don't know what to think yet, it sounds good although just a 30 sec clip without lyrics is not too much. Coming from two RH show a couple weeks ago, yes, I very much agree with you on these riffs and bass and beats. But that's OK, I like anyway! They can play like this and still be theirs! I want more! CP rocks out! The only ones they rocked out on was GPASUYF at the end and Pour Me at the end and maybe One I Love. So it would be good to have a really rocked out song! IMO :)
