Jenjie, can you please modify the name of the venue, cause coldplay.com got it wrong, it's Palamalaguti..I don't know why they keep spelling it that way

Anyway, for those interested, tickets will be available on ticketone.it from June 4th:

GA (standing only): 43€ + booking fees
First and second level grandstands (numbered seats): 45€ + booking fees

ME TOOO!!!! ahh can't wait for it:D:D:D
I saw somewhere on the american presale that the stage will be organized differently...something like U2's stage in the last tour:confused:...do you think there will be different tickets with differences depending on the row?

anyway so great! Bologna again:dance:

Aleluvscp
28-05-2008, 07:02 PM
I'll be there also :D taking a little trip by myself hehehe

but why does the site say that tickets for the Bologna concert go on sale on May 30th??

Denise
28-05-2008, 07:10 PM
Because there's always something wrong on coldplay.com :laugh3:

May 30th is written on the live section of the site, while if you read the news about the EU tour it says June 4th, and that's the right one

See you there then

Aleluvscp
28-05-2008, 07:45 PM
ok thanx :D

another liiiiittle tiny question ..just one! I swear!
I found a site that says the time of the concert, prices and you can order the tickets already..

here's the link: http://www.worldticketshop.com/venues/palamalaguti_arena_bologna

just scroll down a bit and you'll see the little announcement of the Coldplay concert with a link to view the tickets

Is this trustworthy or should I just wait for June 4th?

Denise
28-05-2008, 08:35 PM
Don't trust it, tickets are not onsale yet, and this is just a scalper site with price for as much as trice the real value. If I find more news I'll post them here so you can be updated =)

Aleluvscp

Aleluvscp
04-06-2008, 11:42 AM

Aleluvscp

I didn't get a parterre ticket because ..basically.... I had NO idea what "parterre" meant. I still don't know what it means.. but now I know those would've been better anyways :(

I have a question though.... If you get a parterre ticket and you can't wait in the queue line for a very long time.. would you have to stand in the back?

if you want to stand up in front or at least near the stage you will have to get there really early and wait quite a long..:(

Hi! I'm new here. Can arrive a million miles to see Coldplay. But first I need to order a ticket of the Bologna show.
Please, can you help me with an advance? I tried with http://www.ticketone.it but unfortunaly with any information. Have you any thoughts?
Thank you!

Denise
07-07-2008, 09:35 PM
This (http://www.ticketone.it/newsComplete.jsp?idCat=51&cdNews=191799&idCatPT=529&cdProductCity=MIC22008CO0929&cdProductSelected=MIC22008CO0929) is the right page on ticketone website for Bologna and it's in english. As you can see by now they don't have anymore tickets but they're waiting for more, this keeps happening a lot lately as they tend to make small amounts of the last tickets available once every so often.
As this is the only online shop selling them I suggest you to keep checking this page

another_pilot
07-07-2008, 09:49 PM
Thank you Iriden!
So bad I'm lately. Well, I see it's in Italian... And when I choose "English" I get to the start page. The problem is how do I know that the tickets are on the sale again? I don't know Italian, so sorry. And I'm interesting: are there ticket offices in cities of Italy who sales tickets? I mean not Internet?

Denise
07-07-2008, 10:18 PM
Stupid site, I thought that copying the address from the english page would have worked.
Anyway yes there should be ticket shops selling them, but I'm not sure they're so easy to find, I mean I bought them as soon as they were available, so I'm not really following how the situation is, but I read many people who were not able to find them.

Do you know someone living in any big italian city, such as Rome or Milan, that can buy it for you? because unfortunately where I live there is only one place who was selling them, but it was a ticketone one shop, and on their site it's written tickets are not available on their shops.

P.S. Ok I got it. If you want to read the page on the website in english, click on music on the tabs you will find on the top, and then on international. Then scroll down and you will see a little image of Chris, click on "Coldplay". On the new page you will find a news in italian announcing the tour, don't worry about that and click on "tickets" (it's one of the tabs right under their picture). You will get to Bologna gig page and there you will see it says "Waiting for New Availability from the Supplier", so if you want you can keep checking it. But be advised you will need to creat an account in order to buy them.

Iriden, thanks a lot!
I'm really glad you have a ticket! I'll try to find something (will check this site etc.). But even if it's not Italy I'll do my best to see their show somewhere else in another country.
Thank you!

September 29th, 2008

The first of two dates in Italy. The tour has come through the Alps, and stopped in Bologna. I have been told that the atmosphere will be incredible here. I hope so. I’m working with UCODEP and Oxfam International in Italy today. Ucodep is an Italian NGO that since 1976 has worked in Italy and abroad to build a better world through activities aimed at fighting poverty, supporting health and education rights, promoting the values of diversity and solidarity, and assisting people in humanitarian emergencies. It will be great to work with the volunteers here. I’m sure it will be another successful night.

:snore: time to change up the setlist.....

Yep, yep.

- Looks really short (was this even 90 mins - loads of them are short versions/interludes/short songs etc etc??)

- When they stopped mixing it up on the last tour they got bored, and we (I mean those of us who bought tickets to multiple shows) got bored too

- The impromptu encores/experimentation seem to have long ceased :(

- (Personal one) Please drop Speed of Sound in favour of anything from Parachutes/Rush* - even the casual fans I speak to now aren't that bothered about hearing it, so why play it every show?

- How about the (world-conquering) original version of GPASUYF at least a few times this tour?

And now to be more positive:

+ I'm sure it was an incredible show, as always :)

+Sticking with loads of the tracks from the new album - the whole world deserves to hear these live!!

+ The Hardest Part again - if you drop one of my favourite X&Y songs (that I've never seen live!!) before the London gigs I will post and post and post until I'm sick :veryangry2:

+ Politik played, as it always should be.

* Trouble, Don't Panic, Shiver, Everything's Not Lost, Warning Sign etc etc etc

I still dont get why they only play only half of "god put a smile... " or/and "talk" both sound really fun with the electric drums! might as well play a full song than a half song!

Good thing I can type this instead of saying it cos my voice is GONE :D

Yesterday was the best day of my entire life and ..there IS SUCH THING AS COLDPLAY KARMA!!

I traveled for 2 days with my family all the way up to northern Italy. I arrived at the venue at 4:40 pm and met up with the wonderful Coldplayzone staff. As many of you know, I'd gotten the wrong type of ticket and I was supposed to be sitting very far away, but thanks to Simone, Patrizio, Gabrielle, Denise (the Coldplayzone staff) and the nice security guys I was allowed to be really close to the stage. How close?? try SECOND ROW RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE ONE AND ONLY MR. JONNY BUCKLAND!!! :o
But before we get to that... Albert Hammond Jr. I thought it was a pretty impressive band.. although they could've sounded a lot better if it hadn't been for a few technical glitches.
Moving on...

Black see-through curtains rolled down from the ceiling as I tried my hardest to prepare myself psychologically for what was about to happen. After 5 and a half years of waiting.. the time had finally come. People began to scream all over, I looked up at the stage and... Lord help me.... I see Jonny walking up to his guitar.. it was all in slow motion.. he was so tall and so beautiful! I began to feel really weak and dizzy. I was pretty sure I was about to faint so I tried to calm myself down. I look to the side and see Chris and Will arriving as well.. I couldn't see Guy cos of a damn speaker
During most of Life in Technicolor I was pretty dizzy, I wanted to say something.. anything!! but I was in complete awe. Then Violet Hill, accompanied by lazers.. it sounded so much better than I'd heard in other live recordings!! I quickly recovered and began to sing like there was no tomorrow. I pretty much already knew this setlist by memory but when Clocks came on it was such a great surprise. That one song meant so much to me, I had to sing it with all my heart, which I did of course. Red lazers all over the place as I looked at Chris working that piano (:sneaky:). In My Place was a great sing-along.. I had always wanted to scream those "yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"s while Chris raised the microphone. During Speed of Sound the entire stage went purple and the magic balls turned red.. very similar to the video. I began to sing Cemeteries before they had even started playing it.. I just knew that silence before a song could only lead to Cemeteries lol. I sang and screamed and then had to calm down as they started playing Chinese Sleep Chant.. 1) Cos I don't know the lyrics and 2) Cos I don't like it much
All was well when they began playing 42.. I knew this was Jonny's time to shine :D Everyone was really hyped by then, jumping and screaming.. it was outstanding to see and hear. I've gotta say the Italian crowd was absolutely amazing!! I had no idea they'd be so energetic!! Even Chris was surprised.. he'd just let everyone sing for him while he stared at the crowd making an "omg they're gonna blow this place down " kinda face.
Fix You began playing and everyone either gasped or began to cry. Strawberry Swing was full of energy.. I think I may have accidentally hit a few people while jumping :laugh3:. Afterwards, they walked to the right side of the stage and played the "80's" version of GPASUYF followed by the wonderful piano versions of The Hardest Part and Talk.. along with Postcards which sounded very lovely. During that time the crew had changed the main stage a bit.. switching the piano for the keyboards and bringing out Terry Vision :P Everyone went wild as the band moved back to the stage and began to play Viva La Vida.. safe to say there wasn't a single person who wasn't singing or jumping, Chris extended the end of VLV so we could all continue going "oh oh ohhh oh oh ohhh!!!" it was amazing!! Lost! came a bit unexpected.. Guy moved over to the center and gave it his all while playing.. whatever that drum-like instrument is called  you could just feel the trembling all over the place! aahhh!! :bomb:
They left quickly after to appear in the back of the arena.. too far back for me to see them... so I got a chance admire the great magic balls. I was singing so loud a few people actually shushed me :stunned:.
When they came back onstage.. the most unexpected thing happened.. I had totally forgotten about the one song I had always wanted to see them playing live.. but sure enough, there it was!! It was sort of like a bang! Blinding white lights everywhere.. I could hear the drums so much louder than before ...Politik. For me it was the highlight of the night.. at that poing I'd lost most of my voice.. but somehow I found a way to continue singing and screaming Jonny's name  ah.. I'm even more in love with Politik now then I was before. Lovers In Japan followed, with black and white images on-screen. I heard gasping and I looked up to see one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen.. so many colorful butterflies, it was as if LIJ had now become background music for this great scene
Lights were dimmed as Chris sat in the piano and began playing DAAHF. Something happened during the concert and I'm pretty sure it was during this song... after I'd been screaming out Jonny's name the ENTIRE TIME.. I decided to give it another shot since it was pretty quiet. I screamed Jonny's name as loud as loud as I possibly could, his eyes began searching for that creepy girl who wouldn't shut up (:uhoh:) when he finally laid his eyes on me... slow motion again :o!! He looked directly at me and smiled ...OH SHIT!!!! :o:dead:
I knew he'd heard me screaming his name many times before but he was too shy to look :smug:
After that came the great chant of "No I don't want to battle from beginning to end!!..." ...awesomeness..
The band said goodbye and walked around the stage waving. I could finally see them perfectly!! They were all so much more beautiful in person!!!!! They had great big smiles on their faces.. very genuine ones.. not I'm-smiling-cos-I-have-to smiles. I have to say, Guy is absolutely gorgeous in person :stunned:.
They left the stage and the crowed continued cheering and clapping. They came back, the lights dimmed, everyone went quiet and I kept screaming "Yellow!! play Yellow!!!!!" (). They gathered in a little circle and then moved back to their spots. Chris got ready to jump... I knew this was it.. Yellow :wacky:. It had an impressively sudden start, all the lights went yellow and I truly felt like I was living my dream.. I clearly remember Guy's face peaking over to look at the crowd in front of Jonny and Chris's blue eyes shining like I had never seen before :nice:.
They said their final goodbye. Chris said a lot of things but there was too much screaming going on to be able to hear anything. They exited the stage as The Escapist played. We all just kind of raised our arms while looking up and singing "And.. in the end..."
Tears began to run through my face. I had just seen the 4 people I loved most in my entire life. It was trully an amazing show. Thank you so much Will, Chris, Jonny and Guy.

After we exited the arena, we went around it to see if we'd catch a glimpse of the band getting into the van.. but after 10 minutes they told us the band had already left a while ago.
The crew was busy getting all the equipment into large trucks. I recognized a lot of them from the AROBTTH Tour programme and from the Today show pictures. I spoke to one of them and he said the band had really left, he asked me if I'd be going to the Milan concert and I said "No.. I've already traveled far enough". Something about that just moved him cos before I knew it.. he was getting out an official crew t-shirt and giving it to me :o squeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! What a nice guy... he should get a raise :nice::P

The balloon choreography worked out pretty well in the beginning. Balloons were flying all over the place even before Albert Hammond Jr. One of those balloons ended up being juggled on Chris's head
A lot of the people who attended yesterday's concert are now in yet another queue line for the Milan concert.. including the Coldplayzone staff. The huge banners created by them also looked amazing. They said "HEAR YOUR ITALIAN CAVALRY CHOIRS SINGING". I couldn't take any pictures but the ones they took will be uploaded tomorrow morning hopefully.

I realize I may have written a bit too much.. but hey!! this was my first concert!! :D
I'm still shaking and in total shock ......I'll never get over it :wacky:

aww that was a great review!!
You described your impressions very well!
I totally know what you were feeling like, because at my first concert in 2005 I burst into tears as well after/during the last song, because it was my first Coldplay-concert and I couldn't believe that I've seen them in person as well..and at my second Coldplay-concert I really had to concentrade on not bursting into tears when Life in Technicolor came on!
And as you said you need this whole first song to realize where you are and what is going to happen because you're so dizzy :drunk:

my turn :)

I haven't posted in ages, but here goes! O.o

I last saw the boys in Atlanta, GA, in 2005. I'm studying abroad in Florence, Italy, this year through school. So why is that important? Because I was going to miss their North American tour? Ohhh HELL NO! So a few months back I purchased tickets to the closest tour stop to Florence - Bologna, Italia. I didn't know what to expect from an Italian crowd, but wow I was floored by how excited everyone was! I was feeling kind of bad that I hadn't gotten a floor space, but after watching the surge of people fighting their way to the front of the stage, I was actually pretty happy that I had a seat in the second level, right near the stage. Perhaps not as good for strong, breathless memories, but definitely better for clear photos! I took a collection of both videos and photos, but I only have photos uploaded so far. It was hard to keep the photos crisp and clear because I couldn't stop dancing the entire time!

also, my neck still hurts from wildly shaking it while singing and doing all sorts of stuff I'm not accustomed to since there was so much adrenaline rushing through my system!

OMG ALEEE!!!

I'd just like to add... I thought Chris's voice was gonna sound horrible judging by the other recent live recordings, but his voice sounded spectacular!! Not that he even needed to sing.. the entire crowd proved to be able to do that for him :D

Yeah, I know what you mean!! Its like you've spent so many years listening to a band, watching them on the tv, and online, and then finally you get to see them in the flesh! And they're real, everyday people!!
I think my first real concert was Keane, and I was amazed how short they were! Just cos you always imagine bands and celebrities to be larger than life :laugh3:

And the shaking? awww! I'm guessing you're still beaming from ear to ear as well? That'll probably last a good few weeks!! :D

And you got politik live? After all of your Live 2003 listens? God I'm so happy for you!!! I had a terrible feeling they might not play it, but yay!!! :D

ALL those glasses of wheatgrass juice appear to be paying dividends for CHRIS MARTIN.

The COLDPLAY frontman, who sticks to a strict macrobiotic diet, whipped off his top at their show in Bologna, Italy, and displayed an impressive torso. Mind you, his jacket must be getting a little whiffy by now.

The lads only made one French Revolution-style outfit each for their mammoth world tour.

Now, more than halfway through a 67-date jaunt, I can only imagine how much it smells.

I bet the crowd threw it back.

Did anyone else notice the plush puppy that was tossed from the crowd onto Chris's piano at the end of Fix You? He just picked it up, kissed it, put it back on the piano then left the stage. I got a video clip of it that I'm uploading to youtube now. :) I also have a clip of Will fantastically singing Death Will Never Conquer. I'm so excited to share but youtube upload is so slow! O.o*

Did anyone get a shot of the people holding up the poster with "Crests of Waves - Please Play It!"? I saw Guy get a shot of it, but I think that may be harder to access! LOL
As Aleja already said it was my banner, Guy saw it during Cemeteries, when he was on the back to play the piano and a had huge smile on his face :nice:
but I won't spoil my review so I'll write later on what happened when the show was almost over, I don't know how I managed not to faint

Screw the review..I found two videos so you get what happend
they were coming back to play Yellow, Chris had already seen my banner going out, but he read it once again and went to Guy patting on his shoulder and telling him to see it (I suppose he told him he had already seen it, big smile on his face again), then they played Yellow and right at the end Guy took up his camera and came to the front hinting at me to hold up the banner

this video has it in full Chris pointing at the banner, and Guy coming in the front (at 5:28 :nice:)

#42 is your Italian stallion
http://www.coldplay.com/graphics/news_line.png
As we arrive at the airport in Zurich, ready to head for Bologna, we see that there are some fans gathered at the entrance. Not so unusual, except that they are the very same fans that were waiting outside the hotel when we just left. Not only do they know our movements, but they've done the same journey as us and beaten us here. It gets even more strange when Trainer Dan (who keeps the fellas in shape) mentions that they were around when he and Guy went out for a run. I'm not even sure if they weren't at the airport when we arrived yesterday. They've collared the guys for photos and signatures several times in one city. It's like some strange inverse micro-touring. The band are travelling from city to city to play to as many fans as possible and here are a group of fans travelling all over a single city to see the band as many times as possible. They're harmless enough and pleasant, but you have to wonder how exactly they know where everyone's going to be and when - particularly when we generally have little idea from one minute to the next!

The trip to Bologna is quick, but beautiful. Here's a quick view from our morning ride into work:

http://www.coldplay.com/uploads/Alps.jpg

It's another very boomy arena in Bologna, which once again brings out the RAWK! in soundcheck. Back In Black gets another rollicking run through, which morphs into 136. I'm not sure I've heard that one since they did it in Reykjavik in 2002 with Tim from Ash on guitar. Also this afternoon, comes another run through of Glass of Water. Today sees another rather interesting additional guitar player join the camp for this track. The chorus on this one is pretty monstrous. It seems to fit huge echo-y arenas perfectly. It's rocky and it's joyous and it expresses a band at the top of their game very well I think.

Italy can occasionally be somewhat challenging for roadies. Things here are, hmmm, how does one put this? "More relaxed", I guess is the best phrase to use. Vital things such as the huge electrical supplies that power the entire show can be rather cheerfully vague and efforts to correct major issues can be met with an even more vague shrug. The thing that overrides all of this though and makes it worthwhile is the Italian crowds. They are unfailingly wonderful.

I'm under the stage having a tidy up when the doors open to the punters in Bologna. This lot are already singing the Viva tune as they stream onto the floor. An Italian fansite (http://www.coldplayzone.it/coldplay_info_concerti.asp) has also organised the bringing of balloons, which they're bouncing and batting about the place long before the band take the stage. If they're this noisy and excitable at an empty stage, the gig can only be a good 'un.

And indeed it is. I can't remember a louder crowd this whole tour. It's a great point in the tour to get a crowd like this. The set has settled to the point where the band can actually start really relaxing and enjoying it, as well as being aware of what's going on around them. We're also about five weeks into a run of shows and frankly, everyone is knackered. A vibe like tonight lifts everyone like a very, loud cheering and screaming shot in the arm. The balloons make an appearance on the B Stage, as one makes its way up. Chris announces that he will perform "the next song as a fat man. This is what Coldplay will look like in thirty years' time" The balloon goes up the shirt and true to his word, the song is delivered in a most overweight fashion.

http://www.coldplay.com/uploads/FatMan.jpg

As well as balloons, there are gold paper crowns, presumably in tribute to Anton Corbijn's Viva La Vida video. Chris picks one up in the midst of the song and it soon ends up perched on Guy's head. Rather suits him, actually.

http://www.coldplay.com/uploads/King.jpg

This brings us to Milan. Glass of Water gets another airing, again with mystery extra band member. The crowd arrive with even more balloons and even more gold paper crowns. They're also just as loud as last night. It's a top, top show which brings us towards the end of what has been an utterly fantastic touring leg. There's a whole bunch of touring to go before this campaign is over, but if it's all as good as this past month or so has been, we're all going to go home for Christmas very happy.

Ale it was great to meeting you as well and I'm happy you get to be in the GA in front of Jonny :nice:

Ok so, I don't think I will be too long with my review, Aleja already said how great this concert was.
I guess being in the front row make you see and feel the atmosphere a lot different than being far back or on the stands, you know that you're surrounded by die-hard fans, who were in queue since 7 in the morning if not before and sang every single song atop of their lungs (of course many other die-hard fans were all over the place).
We arrived at the venue at 8.45 and as I said there were already some people at the two gates for the parterre (the GA)..it was a long wait till 7pm, we wandered around to a supermarket near there to buy something to eat, went to buy something at the official merchandising shop (I got the tour program :nice:) and we also tried to wait for them at the back where they should have entered, but when we arrived Jonny and Will were already in, we stayed there for at least one hour since Chris and Guy were to arrive but someone came to tell us we needed to come back in queue in order to keep our spots...and a few minutes later a guy who was waiting with us told us a car arrived 10 minutes after we left but didn't stop.
When the gates opened everyone started running as fast as possible..me and a friend of mine managed to find a spot in the front row on the right side and we had to stay sit till the GA was so full that people stood up to really take the rail..luckily it was not long enough till Albert came out. Must say I enjoyed his songs, tough after in the third the song began to seem all the same (must be cause I didn't know any).
When he went off stage all the CP roadies came to set up the equipment and people started singing the Viva la Vida chorus..then they played a rap song and a walzer, which stopped short and then all the lights went out.
From here on everything was perfect for me..Life in technicolor is amazing and we began moving our ballons and kept doing it through Violet Hill.
Then Clocks, which is always a highlight of the show, I loved the lasers, and In my place..Jonny came to our side and everyone screamed his name, he joined Guy and Chris at the beginning of the catwalk :nice:
During Speed of Sound we could finally see the magic balls in action, and they were amazing..all the lights were blue while they were green, yellow and red.
After this Chris asked to turn on the lights, apologised for his terrible italian and told us to enjoy the Monday (he had to asked Jonny which day it was) evening and they started play Cemeteries, which everyone sing along to and I was really surprised.

*insert fangirl comment: while Chris was talking Guy saw my Crests of Waves banner and pulled out a smile like this :D..well a bit more embarassed*

anyway it was the turn of Chinese Sleep Chant that I effing love, that song rocks live and I'm glad they're not dumping it, and 42 with everyone singing "you thought you might be a ghost". Fix You is always great live, even tough this is probably not the right spot in the setlist, and Strawberry Swing is so uplifting, with all the audience following Guy's and Jonny's hand clapping :nice:
Then it was the turn for the B-stage, where they played the techno version of God put a smile and Talk. Must say that I liked the second one while I'm not that sure about the first, it's just that the original version of God kicks ass live, especially the last part. The Hardest Part on piano is absolutely beautiful and a nice surprise, as well as Postcards from Far Away.
Viva la Vida started right away and the ohhh ohhhohh as well, I though the venue was going to fall down with all the people singing so loud, we really overwhelmed Chris' voice in a lot of songs but this in particular (and Miller agrees :wacky:), than there was Lost!, absolutely brilliant live.
When they disappared people feared the concert was already over, and then all of a sudden they realised they were on the back of the venue ready to sing The Scientist and Death Will Never Conquer (Will sung perfectly as always).
Viva la Vida remix is what in Italian we call "una truzzata", but it was fun as we started to sing along the chrous again..until Politik started, and I got the shivers because it's my favourite song ever, I'm so happy they decided to bring it back and now is regular in the setlist.
This time I had promised myself to follow Lovers in Japan without looking over me and try catching some butterfiles like I did in Barcelona, but it's impossible not to and I guess everyone on the GA did the same, they're too perfect for this song.
And then first time to listen to Death and all his friends, and I may sound repetitive but it was amazing too, the chorus gives goosebumps.
They were all so happy at the end and as usual they bowed before going away...to come back for another song, and everyone was yelling for Yellow because it's THE SONG and I'm glad they played it acoustic only a few times, this is how it must be played, rockier.

*insert fangirl comment: and the rest about the banner and the picture you already know*

That's it, I'm trying to collect all the memories but it's difficult because I only slept two hours that night and then I had to prepare myself for another concert, the review of which will be in its thread..hopefully tomorrow..just know it was even better :D

Coldplay, le scalette (e le differenze) delle due date italiane: Bologna 29/9 e Milano 30/9

http://static.blogo.it/soundsblog/ColdplayLive2008.JPG

My review:

Two pure and absolute live masterpieces. There are no other words to describe the excellence, emotional thrill and above all the uniqueness of these two concerts, that Coldplay held at Palamalaguti in Bologna and Datchforum in Milan, on 29 September and 30 September respectively.
The two gigs were really eagerly-awaited and tickets had already run out during the days just after they were put up for sale; and actually both venues were really packed, as expected. But that sold out is understandable given the only fact that the passion of Italian people for the four Brit guys has always been growing. After all, 'we're a country of passionate singers’, Chris Martin said in 2005.
The love of the Belpaese for the band is so incredibly great that the queue started from 8 a.m. on the day of the first concert in Bologna. The full staff (almost) of Coldplayzone arrived in front of the entrance No.7 at 8.45 a.m. and it came as a surprise to us that some fans were already standing here. Great: the more people being here, the easier it would be to understand the meaning of live a Coldplay show, to be deeply experienced in the flesh, because its appeal can't be put in words.
During the morning, the queue became longer and longer and those all-aged people came from almost everywhere in Italy: there' re people that had covered more than 1000 Km, or carried some chairs from home trying not to get tired, or had been doing some crosswords to kill time. Everyone is living this day in its own way.
When the Coldplayzone banner, arranged for this special occasion (with the unmistakable slogan ‘Hear Your Italian Cavalry Choirs Are Singing’), was strung up on the fence, all the Coldplayzoners moved in, wearing fabric bracelets on which their nicknames were written, and also carrying the thing that was going to become the 'main character' of the shows (no one knows yet what's going to happen): the balloons. It's great to notice that there are so many people supporting this choreography, promoted by the staff. We also found out that this involvement is not happening by word of mouth but actually a lot of people are participating to this choreography, after having visited our website. It's a real gift to us and we're really proud.
The waiting turned out to be nice. There's this ritual question ‘Do you have a balloon?’ that have been spread everywhere. There's only an answer: 'I've got tens!’. So, dreaming about the choreography (without kidding ourselves, but keeping our fingers crossed) and finally meeting those people we know only virtually, that magically (by Coldplay, maybe) become real human beings, we're going through our count-down to the doors' opening.
At last. It's 6.40 p.m., the doors open and...everybody runs towards the stage. There's a lot of people, so many people that in a bunch of minutes the parterre is swarming with boys and girls that begin to sing the theme of the song, that is already considered as the biggest hit of the music career of Coldplay: ‘Viva La Vida’.
The count-down begins (as it also starts on the big screen) while Albert Hammond Jr. is about to perform with his band.
Once the opening act is over, the balloons are inflated. At first they are about ten, then hundreds, then more and more. In the background the Blue Danube waltz, that seems to guide and shake the balloons, waiting for the most celebrated band: a huge coloured carpet, as far as the eyes can see, incredibly rich and nourished. That simple cast idea happens to be the ever coolest choreography the band have had during the ‘Viva La Vida Tour’. And when Chris and his friends entered the stage for ‘Life In Technicolor’, the eyes of the frontman are actually incredulous and excited, and he almost decides to come out the curtain to catch the twinkling of lights and colours. That's a ‘life in technicolor’!
The band realised that the Italian warmth consists in surprise them or be involved in their shows but also in living deeply their songs. How's that? Just singing them, that's the best and powerful way to do it. During ‘Violet Hill’, ‘Clocks’, ‘In My Place’ and ‘Speed Of Sound’, Chris almost struggles on singing over those 13.000 voices of the building: Italy has been waiting for so long, too long. The country that 'hosted' them while they were deciding about the track-listing of ‘Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends’, the country where they were shooting the video of ‘Violet Hill’, it's now asserting its affection, with a load of feelings, joy and passion. Some crying and some smiling, tears and grins, rapture and dancing, seem to lead the 'Italian cavalry’ of the New Millennium's Band away, in a timeless dimension, beyond the limits but following the only rule: heart and soul.
During ‘Cemeteries Of London’ the refrain became a lullaby, a request, a reaction. And they realised that. They said ‘you Italians are the best audience ever’, from the famous cliché ‘Italians Do It Better’, but from a musical point of view.
With a tense and clear sound, with the voice of Chris, more captivating and plainer than usual, and Jon Buckland on the shields, ‘Chinese Sleep Chant’ resounds in the building like an overwhelming sound stream.
Mr. Martin couldn't believe it, when on ‘42’ an amazing choir overwhelms his voice. He seems even a bit annoyed, as if he could not sing, or tell us to stop, he could not quench that willing of screaming we are there, like a stone we hang on in order to not fall, that will be there for us, not to hit us but to support and help us.
With those recurring thoughts, Guy Berryman strikes as he realises that here in Italy ‘Fix You’ is not a ditty, but a kind of song to life, a flurry that gets us to be aware of ourselves, about what we’re wishing and how to realize our potential. There’s no point saying that the final is entirely sung by the audience…
In ‘Strawberry Swing’ Jon Buckland gives full measure in a guitar loop, worthy of the splendour the actual best band achieved. The handcalpping – those hands, that were shaking the balloons, now beat time of the song that highlights this evening: 'It's such a perfect day'’.
The band moved to the B- stage on the right to perform two alternative versions of two past great fortes: ‘God Put A Smile Upon Your Face’ and ‘Talk’. The scene features small lights (mobile phones, cameras and other tech stuff). It feels like listening to the best music in the world beneath a starry sky. The same sky that holds the sound softness and the legerity of Chris' voice (really rebel tonight, without control) in a superb ‘The Hardest Part’, kind of piano melodic lullaby. The audience's choir quietens down, and never disturbing.
While we're closing the eyes and listening in silence to the instrumental piece ‘Postcards From Far Away’, a perfect fusion among the piano of Martin, the gentle guitar of Buckland and the subtle bass of Berryman, a passage opens, we're not capable of noticing where we are, with whom or when. Light appears at the end of that tunnel and we hear the violin distorted sound of that masterpiece called ‘Viva La Vida’, acknowledged by everyone as the only best song of the year and chosen to be our hymn to life, joy and craze. It's amazing seeing the many different reaction to this song: there's who sing, cry, dance, jump and even faint. Will Champion opened and closed the singing with an incredibly strong and powerful voice: he really sings following his heart and banging his drums, like a blacksmith, and also that bell that brings us to a big Christmas party. Chris is a dragonfly, a butterfly: he flies everywhere and he receives the excitement of his fans, also catching our banner and realizing that he's living in a parallel dimension, just like us.
The audience is delighted, in a trance state, almost 'stoned' and ’rapturous' by this heavenly music, Guy changes place towards the drum and ‘Lost!’ fills up the air. That's a song!!! The guys are really hard at it, with a grit never achieved in the past. And the audience supported them.
After a short waiting, and they come back on the C-Stage, among those seats of a literally crazy gallery, that was not expecting this sudden showing up. Chris thanks heart and soul all the Italian supporters. The acoustic version of ‘The Scientist’ begins. The final choirs makes the walls shiver. They makes the hearts pound. They shake the minds. And in a flash, the sound turns into a rhythmic handclapping for ‘Death Will Never Conquer’, while Will Champion ‘from Southampton’ is introduced by Chris Martin. Guitar, mouth-organ and vocals: is there anything more intense than that? The essential becomes wholeness.
After a bit of dance music with ‘Viva La Vida Interlude Remix’ (a 4 minutes break, during which disco music is the centre of the world and the choirs of the supporters keep repeating endlessly), the band comes back on the stage and proves its power in ‘Politik’, particularly appreciated. The final part fades into the classic music piece by Satie, thanks to the interpretation by Chris of ‘Six Gnossiennes 1’ that make the eyes of the audience glisten.
The last part is like out of control excitement, something that everyone should live before of dying. The first song is ‘Lovers In Japan’. Some pictures of far world slide on the background screen, Asia. The lyrics merge in unison and during the refrains our eyes are caught by this huge rain of paper butterflies. And there's a feeling that joins us: freedom, joy, life.
This last emotion ends in a loud scream for ‘Death And All His Friends’. An involving piano in the first part, and then the other instruments, and the final choir that, after this absolute emotion, anyone would ‘follow death and all his friends’. Hope, the need to live, joy of life, the feeling of enjoying all those incredible things the world and time have offered us, are gathered like a wild molecule in this exciting song.
The band leaves the stage and then comes back to perform the most awaited song by the audience: ‘Yellow’. ‘Yellow’, with which everyone has been growing up, falling in love, that have introduced the band to us, is not sung by Chris: we want to sing it so badly, our voice is too strong, it belongs to us and we're going on singing it. The band, at the end of the song, thanks us as we are thanking them. But our acknowledgement is never-ending.
With the notes of ‘The Escapist’ the first 2008 Italian night of Coldplay is over. Hugs, kisses, tears, new friendships… everything is ready for tomorrow.

I've just read the post concerning Roadie #42 blog #36. There is a little change talking about the gold paper crowns. Here's the last post ( ... ). And, yes ... gigs were sooo good! :D

#42 is your Italian stallion

http://coldplay.com/graphics/post_line.pngAs we arrive at the airport in Zurich, ready to head for Bologna, we see that there are some fans gathered at the entrance.

Here's a quick view from our morning ride into work:

http://coldplay.com/uploads/Alps.jpg

As well as balloons, there are gold paper crowns from another fansite (http://www.coldplayitalia.com/), presumably in tribute to Anton Corbijn's Viva La Vida video. Chris picks one up in the midst of the song and it soon ends up perched on Guy's head. Rather suits him, actually.
