Desmond has a barrow in the market place
Molly is a singer in a band
Desmond says to Molly girl I like your face
And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand
Obladi oblada life goes on bra
La la how the life goes on.
Obladi oblada life goes on bra
La la how the life goes on
Desmond takes a trolley to the jewelers stores,
Buys a twenty carat golden ring
Takes it back to Molly waiting at the door
And as he gives it to her she begins to sing
Obladi oblada life goes on bra
La la how the life goes on
Obladi oblada life goes on bra
La la how the life goes on
In a couple of years they have built
A home sweet home
With a couple of kids running in the yard
Of Desmond and Molly Jones
Happy ever after in the market place
Desmond lets the children lend a hand
Molly stays at home and does her pretty face
And in the evening she still sings it with the band
Obladi oblada life goes on bra
La la how the life goes on
Obladi oblada life goes on bra
La la how the life goes on
In a couple of years they have built
A home sweet home
With a couple of kids running in the yard
Of Desmond and Molly Jones
Happy ever after in the market place
Molly lets the children lend a hand
Desmond stays at home and does his pretty face
And in the evening she's a singer with the band
Obladi oblada life goes on bra
La la how the life goes on
Obladi oblada life goes on bra
La la how the life goes on
And if you want some fun -
Take obladi oblada.

You're right. Strawberry Fields Forever does have that part in near the end where John Lennon says "Cranberry sauce" and it ends up sounding like he said, "I buried paul". On A Day In the Life, all of the lyrics have connections to the Paul Is Dead myth. If you listen to the lyrics to A Day In the Life, it is strangely close to the facts to the Paul myth.

But John DOESN'T take the lead ALL through A Day In The Life - he does the first bit, and the last bit, but it's Paul in the middle bit where it changes into 'Woke up, got out of bed, ran the comb across my head', etc. Y'know, I never heard that about the Paul is dead myth and Day in the Life :stunned:

We Can Work It Out Lyrics:Try to see it my way,
Do I have to keep on talking till I can’t go on?
While you see it your way,
Run the risk of knowing that our love may soon be gone.
We can work it out,
We can work it out.
Think of what you’re saying.
You can get it wrong and still you think that it’s alright.
Think of what I’m saying,
We can work it out and get it straight, or say good night.
We can work it out,
We can work it out.
Life is very short, and there’s no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend.
I have always thought that it’s a crime,
So I will ask you once again.
Try to see it my way,
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong.
While you see it your way
There’s a chance that we may fall apart before too long.
We can work it out,
We can work it out.
Life is very short, and there’s no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend.
I have always thought that it’s a crime,
So I will ask you once again.
Try to see it my way,
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong.

Norwegian Wood Lyrics:I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me.
She showed me her room, isn’t it good, norwegian wood?
She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere,
So I looked around and I noticed there wasn’t a chair.
I sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking her wine.
We talked until two and then she said, "it’s time for bed".
She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh.
I told her I didn’t and crawled off to sleep in the bath.
And when I awoke I was alone, this bird had flown.
So I lit a fire, isn’t it good, norwegian wood.

Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right
Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun

For those who don't know it, if you've seen Yellow Submarine it's the one near the end, before the live action bit with the real Beatles. Anyway, it's a superb song.
Other favourites:
A Day In The Life
Tomorrow Never Knows

I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Strawberry Fields Forever

Oh hell yes! That song is so crazy. Its far from being my fav but its wonderfully chillful.
Im incredibly jealous of girlstar, being named after a Beatles song (Especially one thats so darned beautiful). I'd live with being called Jude, or hell even Desmond (Ob La Di) because its from a Beatles song. I mean, DESMOND.
Today Im loving "I Feel Fine" and "Ob La Di Ob La Da" (Which is such a GREAT fucking song I cant believe it was voted worst of all time)

Every song of his is absolutely nuts. Within You Without You, Only a Northern Song, Its All Too much (Mentioned earlier) Beatles probably would have taken twice as long to progress if George Harrison wasnt a part of the band.

agreed
Lennon is my favourite though. The majority of my favourite Beatles songs are his (Tomorrow Never Knows, Happiness Is A Warm Gun, I Am The Walrus, Strawberry Fields Forever)
But Harrison isn't far behind. At the very least, he was leagues ahead of McCartney. Compare 'It's All Too Much' and 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' to 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' and 'Lovely Rita'... need I say more?
Reilly
08-04-2005, 03:14 AM
Yes you need.
Because as much as I hate the guy, Paul McCartney was undoubtedly the best songwriter of the group. He basically made the entire White Album by himself (With 5 or 6 songs mainly done by Harrison or Lennon).
McCartney and Lennon were the two songwriters, Harrison was the guy who could experiment and lets face it, his songs were never as instantly catchy (Apart from Something and a few others). Theres too many brilliant McCartney songs (And I'd say about 60-70% of Beatles songs were written by him or had main contribution by him).
But thats my opinion. Lovely Rita is a great song. Maxwells Silver Hammer was McCartney and Lennon, I think its quite a nice song.
Skinned Alive
08-04-2005, 04:04 AM
Don't get me wrong - while McCartney is my least favourite songwriter in the Beatles, there are a lot of his songs I love. Songs like 'Hello Goodbye', 'Blackbird', 'Hey Jude', and 'Sgt. Pepper' are some of my favourite Beatles tracks.
I just don't like that poppy, happy, bouncy, sing-along sound that many of his songs had. Songs like 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' (which I'm certain was written by him, at least the bulk of it was I'm sure) 'Carry That Weight', 'Fixing A Hole' and 'Get Back' are songs which I certainly wouldn't have missed. 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' is one of the worst songs I have ever heard in my life.

I dont know too much about Maxwells Silver Hammer but all I do know is the credits read both of them. I like the verses and the chorus is interesting, but if you dont like that bouncy pop, then yeah you may not like a lot of Pauls songs.

All of their songs said 'Lennon/McCartney' on them regardless of whichever had written them, because it was in their contract. In reality, the only songs they wrote together properly were the very early ones like 'She Loves You' and 'Ticket To Ride'. Then their songwriting partnership started drifting apart, and eventually they were writing almost independently.
Apparently, Paul was the only one in the band who liked 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer'. I couldn't really see John wanting anything to do with it, so it wouldn't surprise me if Paul wrote that by himself.
Anyway - I don't think 'Ob La Di Ob La Da' is as bad as most people would tell you. But it's another one I wouldn't have missed if it hadn't been written.

Woah, thanks for the educating.
Although I cant be bothered looking for it, I was sure there was a couple songs on some of their later albums that were just McCartney or just Lennon. Meh I just remember seeing it. I'll look tomorow.
I absolutely adore Ob La Di Ob La Da, its possibily my favourite Beatles song. But meh.

I think there could be some on The White Album or something which are labelled just 'Lennon' or 'McCartney', but I'm not sure.
If you go here:
http://www.iamthebeatles.com/article1038.html
There's a list of all their songs and descriptions for the vast majority of them, which tells you everything you need to know about each one (exactly who wrote it, what it's about etc.)

It would be extremely difficult to narrow it down to one song.
