I've love to know why the MEN gig is miles cheaper than the Odyssey gig :P .. rising fuel charges to power the plane over to Belfast perhaps? Should I blame Gordon... :inquisitive:

They can shove their over priced tickets where the sun don't shine.

£42.50 is a fucking joke.

And not a very amusing one.

It's verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry overpriced.
But it'll be £46.50 in Belfast

I've got tickets from seetickets, but they don't say where I'm sat?
I don't want to wait until the tickets arrive to find out I'm in some crappy corner of the arena or something. For that price, they better be good.

I'd phone them in a few hours when things have calmed down to see if they can tell you, or ask when they're allocating. Posted on another thread, a landline number for them is 01159129000

I will sell them if needs be, dont want a profit though !

Hey everyone,
New to the forum, I guess mainly for selfish reasons to begin with! But seetickets (as usual) screwed up a bit, and i got a double order so 2x 2 tickets.. I'm not sure which seats are better though:
Block 116 L, 5-6 (too much to the side of stage?)
Block 109T, 15-16 (too far away?)

Will be my first time watching so wanna make sure the seats are as good as possible!

Any help would be really appreciated :)

busybeeburns
16-11-2008, 04:54 PM
welcome to coldplaying! ;)

I'd go for 116 because you'll still get a decent view of the arms of the stage. 109 is far too far away for any decent view unless they appear in that block for the acoustic session, which isn't guaranteed.

Idan
16-11-2008, 09:12 PM
Thanks for the welcome and the help!

My sister and I were actaully gonna pick the 109 seats if we didn't get a response, though we had no clue how far away it actaully was.. but definitely seems like your knowledge is to be trusted hehe.. 116 it will be, thanks again :) See you around the forum!

hey iadamh, fellow 116'er! I dont think we're very lucky with the seating though, cause yeh the tickets did just come in today, and even on the tickets it says :'sideview!'.. doesnt sound too promising :( Does anyone know if you can actaully see the stage aswell aswell as the arms, or will the side-support of the stage make it completely unviewable?

we sat in 216 (Ithink) for Take That and it was fine. it was definitely a side-on view but we didn't miss too much, just whatever was happening at the very back of the stage. think I still have pics from that angle on my phone, so will try and upload when I get home later

Idan
24-11-2008, 10:34 PM
ah wow that would be great thanks!! Already happier just hearing that it may only be the back of the stage that you can't see, well if it was 216.. but thanks for the help, still had to decide whether to sell the 116 or 109 tickets (for face-value ofcourse:cool:)

No worries, thanks anyways jenjie! Its good enough to know that it may only be the back of the stage that we wont see.
As for supports, I actaully have no clue. Usually I'm much more bothered bout supports, but by far excited enough for coldplay to make up for it!

the email with the photos finally turned up. Vodafone is rubbish, its taken 2 days!!!!!

I don't think you can tell so well from the 1st picture. the second one is better because you can see the pillar at the front of the page and then the gauzy curtain behind that.

ooh thanks again, really nice of you! Especially cause it seems like it was such a hassle to get the pics off your phone, i thought it would just be a cable?
The seats are much better than i expected, i thought it really would be only the arms of the stage that they would walk onto once in a while that were visible. So all is good!!
As for take that, any good live or just nice nostalgic feelings? Quite amazed they sold out 5 (?) nights in a row in manc!

Right .. where do I start !!!

Firstly , we LOVE Coldplay and all their songs BUT have to say we were very dissappointed in the Thursday M.E.N. concert !!!

They seemed to be showing their b*lls by playing so very LOUD ... we were at the far end , block 205 just above the section where they did that short acoustic section - it sounded all wery distorted to be honest.

We saw Incubus from the same seats last year and there sound was co blear and clean compared to Coldplay !!!

Also , other venues had Girls Aloud or JayZ as support and we got some unknown/ unsigned band .

A have to complain about the the selfish , inconsiderate couple in front of us - Block 206 - THEY KNOW WHO THEY ARE !! - sat in seats 5 &6 about halfway up - row J or something.
The bloke looked and acted like a camp Alan Carr clone and stood up , mincing his way through my fave songs ....starting with YELLOW .... everybody else remained seated apart from these two idiots !!!

I don't normally resort to violence BUT lat night I was very tempted !!!!!

well guys! i just got back and it was pretty top! during green eyes i went out to the doors the band escaped through (running backstage) i took my prospekt march cover and a sharpie hoping for a autograph but all i got was a wave from Chris and a sympathetic "sorry" from Guy but still it was cool, same setlist as last night but a much better crowd! my seats weren't as good but i met two great people , (if you were in block 114 sat on row G seats 13,14 let me knoww!!) :P

Last night's concert was quite strange.

And we were wondering about the people who were sitting down last night :\ , which very much seems to have contributed to the general mood of Thursday's show. Tonight, pretty much everyone was stood from the outset and the vibe was great, with Chris quite obviously feeding off the energy.

well guys! i just got back and it was pretty top! during green eyes i went out to the doors the band escaped through (running backstage) i took my prospekt march cover and a sharpie hoping for a autograph but all i got was a wave from Chris and a sympathetic "sorry" from Guy but still it was cool, same setlist as last night but a much better crowd! my seats weren't as good but i met two great people , (if you were in block 114 sat on row G seats 13,14 let me knoww!!) :P

we couldn't get out :stunned: for some reason the aisles either side of our block just didn't move for ages

much better than last night :D
we were a bit further back to take decent photos, but have I got some videos for you guys

plus Mr BusyBeeBurns may very well have a treat (albeit a reasonably distant treat) for Phil fans :D

We were sat on the lower tier about 3/4 of the way down the length of the arena. Whilst we were sat waiting for them to set up the stage & load the roadies into the ceiling, I spotted a certain roadie named Miller lurking with the sound guys in the middle of the arena. Unfortunately, he must be psychic because as I pointed him out to Ian, he moved off quite quickly to the front. I wondered if he might come back so in between watching the expolits of those poor roadies trying to reach the hanging chairs in the ceiling, I kept my eye on the soundcheck guys. And guess who I spotted as he joined them, you guessed it, the one and only Mr Phil Harvey!! So Ian got his camera out and tried to take a few distance photos of him. It may or may not have worked, but I'm sure Ian will post any new Phil photos shortly :D

Another incredible night! Jon Hopkins didn't perform tonight, unless he came on before The High Wire?

Highlights included (apart from the actual music of course!) Chris saying, before Green Eyes, something along the lines of, "This is an old song, by Joe Satriani - he writes all of our songs!" and Chris dedicating Politik to Debs, which I thought was lovely. He mentioned her again during The Scientist - aww.

The crowd was amazing and really up for it from the moment the first notes of Life In Technicolor errupted from the speakers. I was sat in Block 102 at the side of the stage and everyone stood for the whole gig, which was great!

I managed to take it all in a bit more this time around and I had fun away from the madness and crazyness of the floor infront of the stage!

What a week this has been :)

Wow! I just got back home and boy, what an amazing gig. Highlights for me were 42, LiT2, the yellow balls, and surprisingly I really loved The Hardest Part on the piano up front. I've never rated that song particularly highly, but they way they did it tonight, really simple with Will on backing, almost like a duet, was lovely. The green eyes/death will never conquer bit was fab, we were sat almost directly opposite, and it was fun trying to guess/work out where they were heading for when they came down the ramp. Chris stopped the intro to Green Eyes to say "this was written by Joe Satriani - all our songs are.." or something like that. I laughed but I don't think many people by me up in the cheap seats got the joke. By me, the crowd were enjoying themselves but they didn't exactley look like die-hard fans, I felt a bit out of place in my brand new, bright red VLV teeshirt :)

Speed of Sound lacked a bit of oomph for me compared to the other tracks. Chinese Sleep was great but felt like a bit of a lull, a bit of a filler. 42 was stupendous, really stunning. Stawb Swing and LiT2 were f**king gorgeous! Will's drumming was fantastic. I could feel the beat right in my chest, even as high up as we were, in the nosebleed seats. Chris was his usual energetic-toddler self, the long note at the end of 42 was ace. Chris waited for the crowd to sing the end, then he sang it and the oh-oh at the very end became a very long drawn out note, after he'd built himself up to it :)

Anyway, they've made my night, and I'm so glad that after all the gigs they've done this year, it still felt special, even if I have come home with a banging headache and a tummyache from the lager! :)

Hey does anyone know what Chris played on the piano at the end of Politik..? He played Postcards after Hardest Part and Back for Good after Scientist but I didn't recognise the bit he played after Politik. I'd love to think he was just improvising or ad-libbing but probably not.. lol

Jees I thought we were MASSIVE Coldplay fans until I visited this forum !!

Hey -I wasn't trying to upset or wind anybody up with my comments - this IS a forum and as such I expected to be able to air/share my thoughts .

I still stand by my tcomments that the overall sound was DISTORTED .... maybe we have been spoilt by the crisp , clear , CD quality of Incubus gigs !!??

Anyways , no hard feelings onmy part anyways .

The gig on the 11th was too loud from where I was sitting (block next to stage), but I was a bit further back last night and didn't come out with ringing ears. I don't know if they altered the sound levels though

Time for my review. Well what can i say. Out of this world simply out of this. They were in on fire. Giving their all. Got back at 3am to bristol so i hade to wait to get online. CColdplay were quite simply out of this world. Highlights were In my place, Yellow Viva la vida, Green eyes (no a song i was fond of before tonight). it was amazing they gave their all and chris was up for it, it felt like that he was talking to u only. One funny moment was a girl who was plastered and had to be escorted out. Great times seriously It was the night of my life and life in technicolor ii was simply amazing. Every song was played with heart and soul. The ballons were back which was nice and even tho i was in the top tier it did not matter because they made sure u heard every little world. Thank you coldplay im in ur debt forever

this was only my 2nd coldplay gig, the first being the previous night!!! I have to say I far enjoyed the 2nd, maybe because I was a bit overwhelmed to finally being seeing them live, and I couldn't quite believe it was them I was watching, and not a tv!!!!! On the 11th I was in block 104 and only 4 seats from the acoustic 'platform' as I call it, and everyone in the block was standing and really into it, the 2nd I was in block 106, further back and not so close to 'the platform', and most of the people near me spent most of the night sat
down, which made me feel quite sad, but I never sat down and never stopped clapping and singing!!

I have always had a huge dislike for 'fix you' and 'politik' but after those two shows, I can say that I still don't like them! But 'politik' had a very powerful effect on me. Highlights for me though were '42', 'lovers in Japan' and the beautiful rendition of 'the hardest part'. I took many photos with my phone and video clips, but they are rubbish, so only for my personal enjoyment as proof that I actually was there!!!!

I am worn out now, only had 5 hours sleep in the last 2 days due to not getting home till 1.30am one night and last night 2am and then having to be up at 5.30am for work, and of course my head was still spinning, my hands almost bleeding and the voice has gone away and deserted me. I also spent rather too much on the merch! But was well worth it, I wouldn't change a thing!!!! I'm on top of the world now, thanks Coldplay!!!!!

'Fraid not. My phone bill took a battering last night. And sorry to say I'm glad I wasn't doing live updates, tonight outweighed last night by a million squillion times and I was having the best time :D

the show has helped, I'm on such a buzz right now.

Pete was stood the other side of the table, I might have pushed it into him as I sprawled. :embarassed:

Last night's concert was quite strange.

And we were wondering about the people who were sitting down last night :\ , which very much seems to have contributed to the general mood of Thursday's show. Tonight, pretty much everyone was stood from the outset and the vibe was great, with Chris quite obviously feeding off the energy.

we couldn't get out :stunned: for some reason the aisles either side of our block just didn't move for ages

plus Mr BusyBeeBurns may very well have a treat (albeit a reasonably distant treat) for Phil fans :D

It may or may not have worked, but I'm sure Ian will post any new Phil photos shortly :D

oh no :embarassed: i though you said pete was hiding from you...
stupid drunka ss man

weeeeeeeee you spotted phil :wideeyed:

tnx ian!

Don't thank me, thank the camera :D I was trying to get a variety of shots, but every time I pressed the button the big screen flipped to Will. And most of the Guy shots I have from the screen are very blurry. The camera was just feeling the Will love

you cam thinks guy is to pretty :D trying to make the other feel better..

Don't suppose you paid any thoughts for the poor souls who were SAT behind you and who paid a lot of money to SIT !??

Don't suppose you ASKED the people behind you if minded you dancing in front of them ?

Just wondering what goes through the minds of people like yourself BEFORE you decide to BLOCK the view of at least 3 or 4 people SAT behind you - not to mention all the rows of people further behind you , who get to see some thoughtless person's backside jiggling about , rather than see their beloved COLDPLAY !!

Do you realise how distracting it is when just ONE "person" ( see how restrained I am ) is dancing around in the field of view of about 40 other fans !!??

I may sound a bit "tetchy" but that is because some small minded "person" in block 206 , half way up in seat 5 ... basicall spoilt our whole family's evening -by standing up and mincing his way through half of the concert - mmmm ... did I mention that he reminded us of Alan Carr ( in more ways than looks ).

I have a bad back ( violins playing) and so I can't stand at concerts -this is why we always choose SEATS ... and usually high up to AVOID the "dancers ". Even if I was ABLE to stand I simply could live with my guilt of spoiling the view of some innocent person behind me.!!

More often than not people stand because those in front of them have stood and they can't see. There are of course exceptions, like this time - the only thing you could have done is asked if they would mind sitting down.

Personally I'll stand up if others around me are and even then it is only to see and have a good time, not to detriment the view of those behind. The only positive with me standing up is that I'm only 5ft3 so chances are I won't block many peoples view anyway.

Fair comments _ I was so VERY , VERY angry but luckily I noticed an empty seat a few rows in front of Mincing Milly and enjoyed what was left of the gig ... in saying that , I still think the sound engineer made mistakes on thursday night - the sound was too distorted for my liking - it sounded like Phil spector's Wall of Sound !!!!

I think the issue with people standing up and blocking somebody's view just goes to show that the floor section is much better suited to all standing.

Sorry about the delay in the review. Fully intended to get one up yesterday for you, but work was ridiculously busy, not fun when you're poorly. Its been a bit more reasonable to day, so here you go:

---------

We started out earlier on fri night so we could go and get something to eat, which basically meant a trip to Maccy D's for a calorie-laden quarterpounder with cheese & fries, with a relatively healthy orange juice. Calories & Orange to ensure I had enough energy to get through the gig.

The arena seemed a lot quieter when we got there. The queues at the bar seemed shorter and the candy floss queue was non-existent. We went into the arena a little earlier than on thurs night. I wondered if he might come back so in between watching the exploits of those poor roadies trying to reach the hanging chairs in the ceiling, I kept my eye on the soundcheck guys. And guess who I spotted as he joined them, you guessed it, the one and only Mr Phil Harvey!! So Ian got his camera out and tried to take a few distance photos of him (which we now know didn't work so well :( ).
Jay-Z started, and we got a much better view of the dancing roadie torches :D They were pretty much hidden by the stage on Thurs night. The Blue Danube was much better further away from the speakers, didn't hurt my ears quite so much. The lights went out, and we realised we were in for a much better night. The noise from the crowd was huge, much louder than thurs :D Out came the boys with the sparklers again and on with LIT. We got a much better view of the black nightie, and it looked really cool!
Setlist was the same as the night before, but didn't feel the same. Not sure how to explian it, whether it was just the boost from the crowd I don't know. Fix You had its proper effect, and I had tears in my eyes by the end. Yellow was the best I've ever seen/heard, the crowd was just amazing! I definitely noticed the LaCroix this time  It was pretty cool from near the back. And I forgot the Lovers in Japan butterflies again!! Was so into it, they shocked me!! We had the screaming comp again after IMP. Chris has probably upset the EMI lawyers, because he referred to Green Eyes as a song of Joe Satriani's. Plenty of references to Manchester.
I have to have a paragraph just to mention the crowd. They were amazing. I could hear them singing along to most songs, obviously most loudly for things like Yellow, Fix You, Viva La Vida. They were cheering & screaming, we sang the viva woahs in between encores, waiting for the boys to come back out. The only point they let me down was the mobile phone glowsticks during the Remix. There were more than the night before, but still only in double figures.
The trip home was more interesting than the night before. I think someone was trynig to teach us a lesson because we voted no for the congestion charge. I've never seen the tram so packed before, even on a football day. Halfway home, I nearly got suffocated to death. I've been on packed trams before, but this was different. The way the crowd was pushing me against the doors, I could feel my chest being crushed and was starting to wonder how I'd actually get my next breath. It was very scary, and horrid. And then once, the crowds eased a bit after a few more stops, some drunk guy threw up ALOT all over the floor. Luckily, we got off at the next stop.
So a really, really, really cool night. I'd say it was one of the best Coldplay shows I've been, if not the best. I think I may love them more than Take That now. And nine months seems like nothing to wait 'til we can do it again :D

Tee hee! Black see-through nightie! Great review, thanks!:D

Hope you are feeling better.

The night that I was in block 106 when not alot of people were standing, I had a wall behind me!!! I was in row X, right at the back of the block so I wasn't obstucting anyones view. I am only 5ft 1, so I very much doubt I'd be obstucting the views of 40 or so people even if I jumped about like a lunatic. I didn't have an option where my seat was or I would have been on the floor area!!!!! Most of the time its other people obstucting my view, I once went to a keane concert and never saw much, I had a big head in the way, when I asked the guy to move slightly, he told me to piss off!!!

Great review Jenje. Better to nearly die on the way back from a Coldplay gig than on the way there ;)

very true!! :D although I had thought that it would have been a tragic waste to go to one of the best Coldplay shows ever & then die on the way home without being able to share with anyone :laugh3:

On Saturday 12th, three other friends and I went to see Coldplay at the MEN arena, in Manchester. We set off at just after 5 at Sowerby bridge, so the train would get us into Manchester just after 6. Jess got on a few stops along the line at littlebrough. Our train was slightly late, we expected that.

We arrived at the arena just after doors opening, at 6. We went straight to one of the many over priced shops. The t-shirts were very small and expensive, £20. I also bought a poster. We wondered along to our block. Got some photo's taken and then climbed the steps onto the arena.

It was empty, about 20/30 people were in there. It was massive. We were in block 217, which was side on to the stage. We could see every detail on the stage. We sat there and talked for nearly two hours. We watch as the stadium very steadily filled.

The support act came on at quater to eight. None of us had heard of them before. The first song wasn't great, and they were very nervous. As they went through there set though, it got quite good. I liked them anyway.

After about fortyfive minute set, they went off. The lights came up and the rodies started to arrange the stage. It took about thirty minutes to do. They even cleaned the stage. Many different instruments where set out. Light men were hoisted about 150 foot into t he air to man hte light deck. The stadium was nearly full. The atosphere was tense. Excitedly we held our breath. Blackness.

They came running out from behind stage with sparkelers, they only light. The crowd errupted. They opened with violet hill. Flashing violet lights. Amazing.

The entire consert was amazing. So many cleaver lighting affects. They had a whole line of bright flashing white lights, which flashed whenever the dummer hit his snare. Giant material balls, to which progections were projected. Chris Martin ran up and down that stage all night. Engaging the crwod at every second. The crowd were heard constantly over the band. Again, amazing.

We came out all saying we wanted to go see them the next day. After making a quick stop to the nock-off hoodies, (which were better looking than inside and were only £10) we dashed to the packed platform, and alighted our train home.
