Gonna try and get tickets for this. Anyone know what its like as a venue? Would normally go MEN but may as well do Liverpool as I live there now :)

I'm hoping to get tickets for this show and the 2nd Manchester one,I've never been to a show at the new arena yet but I'm going there to see Echo and the bunnymen in November.I think it holds about 9000 so it's not quite as big the m.e.n

I figure with the capital of culture thing and this being the first year the arena has been open it might be hard.
On the other hand how many hardcore fans that will get up at 9am on a friday morning can there be in Merseyside. Right? :p

I'm hoping to get tickets for this gig. I went a few weeks ago for another gig and its quite a decent venue. Its a lot smaller than the MEN, which is better imo and it seems pretty good for parking around it too. Its down on the docks so just out of the centre, but on a good bus route I think.
My friend works at the arena and she seems to think it will remain an all seater for Coldplay - Im hoping she's wrong though!

I can't see it I'm going to see the bunnymen there in November and it's standing,so i would very surprised if it' s seating when all the other arena shows they've played in the Uk over the years have had standing.

Just phoned the box office, its all seating and tickets are £42.50. I definitely won't be going now....I'm not paying what'll end up over £90 for 2 to see Coldplay having to sit down. NO WAY. It's a very bad decision whoever decided this :(

Nobody Will Sit down anyway
Thats not the point though. The annoying thing is that there'll be hardly any really decent seats, especially on the floor which is flat, and I'm a complete short-arse, and the chances of getting them are so small, so why bother at all! I hate having a seating ticket at gigs, I love being as close to the band as possible, and don't mind queuing for hours, and Coldplay aren't even offering the chance, not like any of us on here are gonna get front row seats!!!!

Here's the seating chart, so you should be sitting in the block I've underlined.

You should be able to sell them on easily yes.
I don't think anywhere official has any decent seats left and you don't want to be paying £38 for back row seats. I'd say ebay is your best bet, just bear in mind that the face value of these tickets is £42 when you're looking. People on ebay try to make as much money as they can :dozey:

Could someone please help me out here
I want tickets for this gig and just found out some people will be sending tickets back up until the last day of november.
I missed out on some good tickets yesterday for this gig but it looks like more may become available.
Does anybody have an idea how many more will be becoming available for this gig? Will they be popping up everyday or is there a specific time when people who cannot go, will send their tickets back?
alexkelly92
03-10-2008, 10:11 PM
Hi
I noticed that the gig in Liverpool scheduled for the 10th Dec has been put forward to the 7th Dec. I am desperate to get tickets for this gig. Good ones if possible :D
I seen in someones email that people who cannot attend are able to send their tickets back for a full refund and the tickets will go back on sale to the public.
They have until the 31 Nov to do this and i was wondering how many people will be sending their tickets back?
Yesterday i missed out on some brilliant tickets that had been put back on in block B row 15!!! My dad never got back in time with credit card and they timed out and got sold to someone else.
There are seats right at the back but after nearly getting great seats yesterday i don't want to settle for these ones just yet. (plus they only come in 3's- i need 2 sets of 2)
Do you think people who send tickets back will be doing so right up til the deadline or do you think they will all do so at a specific time.
Also i would like to say i am an absolute genuine fan who has been looking for tickets since the day they sold out (was on my hols when they went on sale :( ) and if anyone was now unable to attend this gig could they please consider selling me their tickets. I would buy as many as you were selling and if anyone can offer me any other help please contact me
My email address is : alexkelly92@googlemail.com
THANKS A MILLION TO ANYONE WHO CAN HELP A TRUE FAN :)

With the date being rearranged what's the chance of a few tickets becoming available?.
I'm still looking for a ticket for this show after being let down by somebody on ebay, the worst of it is it was in section A and only a few rows back!!!!!!!!!
So if anybody gets their paws on a spare please pm me
Thank you
alexkelly92
07-10-2008, 11:45 PM
Tickets may become available because somone who had tickets for the gig got an email after the date got put forward and the email said you have until the 31st november to send back your tickets if you cannot attend. Therefore there may be people sending there tickets back right up until that date so when echo arena get these tickets back they will put them back on sale for the public. There not going to just keep them are they

I checked the website again because of the tickets for Manchester. It's saying 'please try later'. Does that mean there might be tickets available?
I'd keep checking. I got 2 in Block 1 a few days ago when I happened to be randomly checking. They were despatched the same day too!
I bought Oasis tix from the arena itself, 2 weeks before the gig there was no sign so I just went and picked them up! They're cutting it a bit fine with these though!

I got mine, arrived a couple of days ago, but I got mine from gigsandtours.
Haven't got mine from Ticketmaster yet:cry: Getting twitchy now as I live a long way from Liverpool and I'm going up for the weekend! Their site says they haven't got them in yet:stunned: Hope they can send them out fast!

Awesome. There is still hope then.
I think I'll go to the arena as well. They probably won't have tickets but it's worth a try.

Worse case, give a call to ticketmaster. My ticket for the Sheffield gig that was today never arrived, but I called seetickets and they arranged a duplicate so that i could pick it up at the box office...

marianatsl

Not the greatest seats but the only ones I managed to get... at least they'll be closer than the one from Sheffield.
And YES, we HAVE to meet. If I managed to meet Kara iin Sheffield, against all odds, def have to meet you mimi!!
Btw, I was meaning to ask you if you know anywhere nice and cheap for me to stay the night in Liverpool...

Erm...the cheapest I could find (that was near-ish the venue) was a TravelLodge by Liverpool Central station, but it was £50...:\
http://www.travelodge.co.uk/search_and_book/index.php?action=search&check_from=&locationId=0&quickform=Y&location=liverpool&checkInDate=07%2F12%2F2008&checkOutDate=08%2F12%2F2008&no_of_rooms=1&adults_1=1&children_1=0&adults_2=1&children_2=0&adults_3=1&children_3=0&adults_4=1&children_4=0
There's some cheaper ones as you get further out of the centre...but it's a bit of a pain to get to.

So i assume that C - Stage, is one of the long arms of the stage. I pressume for name sake near Block C.
And Just because it looks Suspicious, and the fact that the text is not coloured in black, and its the only one in white. I reckon that the B-Stage, is the smaller of the two block 18's.
Though i could be completely wrong.

Considering all the other concerts (and I don't think they'll change the stage locations in Liverpool), the B-stage (where they play the techno versions and chris plays piano alone) is in the end of the right arm of the stage, right in front of block C.
Stage C is in the middle of the crowd in the back, usually in one of the wheelchair areas between blocks 5 and 6.

Good to know...
Coz although there were quite a few restaurants in Sheffield the area was just scary (and maybe the fog didn't help).
But B'ham was lovely... right by the canal (or what i think is a canal), full of restaurants, pubs, really pretty place. I managed to grab some dinner before the concert and we even went to a piano bar afterwards... (wasn't really a piano bar, but it was nice nonetheless).
Maybe we could meet somewhere before the concert, grab something to eat... I assume no one really minds missing the supporting bands?

I’m sitting on a road case, which says C O L D P L A Y, in spray paint across the top. On my right, is a label which says ‘Coldplay. Viva. Viva La Vida 2008/2009. Location: Warm-up room. Truck: Backline. Contents: Piano.’ It’s the ‘Dressy Piano’ case, ready for the band to warm-up for another show on their world tour tonight. Today, we have made it to Liverpool’s Echo Arena. It sits proudly overlooking the Docks, and this famous city of music. It’s also European Capital of Culture this year. A week today, the hosts of the venue will be Sue Barker and Gary Lineker for the annual BBC Sports Personality awards ceremony. Tonight, the hosts will be Will, Jonny, Chris and Guy. Greeting people as they enter the venue, will be another 20 amazing Oxfam volunteers, full of energy and ideas for people, to get involved with Oxfam’s work around the world.
Reflecting on last night. It was a great 2008 debut in Scotland for the band. The long wait for those fans seemed to have paid off. It was a cracking atmosphere. I’m hoping for more of the same tonight. There is always the chance of another group of record breakers..

Coldplay play the ECHO arena on Sunday
THEY may have met at university in London, but Coldplay will always count Liverpool as home.
They’re now one of the biggest bands in the world, but before they were famous, and while they were first riding the crest of a wave, they were based in Parr Street Studio. Under the watchful eye of Grammy award winning Scouse producer Ken Nelson they recorded their first two albums – Parachutes and A Rush Of Blood To The Head – plus singles Shiver, Yellow, Trouble, In My Place and The Scientist in the heart of the city.
And the band, who play the ECHO arena on Sunday, still hold it close to their hearts. They’re massive Echo And The Bunnymen fans and last week late one night, while I was working on a supplement to honour the Liverpool legends I got a text from Chris Martin. It read: “Echo and the Bunnymen are the musical equivalent to Marmite. You either love them or you’re a ****.”
I can’t say what his final word was, but I almost choked on my cup of tea: it was far too rude to go into a family newspaper. And not what I’d expect from the mild-mannered vegetarian quiet man of pop. But that’s the thing about Chris, and Coldplay in general. I’d expected them to take themselves awfully seriously. Big mistake, as I realise as they start to talk about new album Viva la Vida (or Death To All His Friends).
“The last album was like an enormous multipack of Weetabix – very tasty if you like Weetabix, but even the biggest fan of Weetabix tires of it after the 19th packet,” laughs Chris. “This album is a sort of Alpen muesli affair.”
Drummer Will Champion laughs: “With fruit and nuts ...”
“... No added sugar ...” says Chris, 31, in a nod to the media obsession with his squeaky clean image.
“That’s a good analogy,” says Will.
“I make a lot of analogies,” giggles Chris. “That’s one of my better ones.”
Viva la Vida became one of the fastest and biggest-selling records in chart history. After selling 125,000 copies in its first day, it shot straight to the top of the charts. The band describes the title track as its first protest song, and its line ‘I sweep the streets I used to own’ is based on Chris and guitarist Johnny Buckland’s time working as domestic cleaners.
“It harks back to when Johnny and I used to be cleaners in the building we used to live in,” explains Chris. “We didn’t used to own it though,” adds Jonny. And tellingly adds after a pause: “We do now.”
Chris continues: “But ‘sweep the streets I used to rent during term time’ doesn’t sound quite as catchy.”
In among the distinctive Coldplay sound, there are often hints of the bands influences – never more than in the intro of Yellow, which shouts Echo And The Bunnymen’s Nothing Lasts Forever. But far from shying away from that, it’s something they celebrate. “We are one of the world’s worst but most enthusiastic plagiarists,” laughs Chris. “As a band we will try and copy anything. It tends to fail and we come up with something that sounds like us. But it’s only by trying to sound like somebody else.”
Bassist Guy Berryman adds: “The more you do, the bigger your back catalogue, the bigger the danger of plagiarising yourself is. We really wanted to avoid doing that.”
Chris agrees: “The key rule was we could steal from anybody except ourselves.”
On Sunday they’ll be playing their first gig in Liverpool in three years. They’ve previously performed at the Royal Court and Mountford Hall, and now they’ve sold out the ECHO arena. But they’re remaining tight-lipped about what they’ll play. “I think that the way the live show will go is that the more material we have to choose from the harder it is to be ruthless and to keep our quality control high,” says Guy.
Will adds: “It's very easy to just go 'Oh we'll just slip in the big song from the first one, the big song from the second one’. It makes it harder. It's a great decision when you can work out what songs you don't have to play. It makes you feel good about the songs you do have. I'm looking forward to choosing the songs we don't have to play.”
Chris almost falls off his chair laughing. "That is such a Will answer,” he grins. “He'll put together a ‘not’ set list that he doesn't want to play and we'll be left with about four songs.”

Shame it was raining when Boris did his lap, I wanted to see how he compared with the people on normal days..hahaha

1 in 4 at the Echo.
The capacity of the Liverpool Echo Arena is 8000 tonight. 2044 of them made the Health and Education For All pledge, in just under 3 hours, thanks to our incredible Oxfam campaigners. For many of them, it was their first time volunteering with Oxfam. That’s a pretty good first time campaigning, by any account.. 1 in 4 signed up. Wow.
Chris Martin is currently singing ‘The Hardest Part’. The volunteers effort tonight has certainly ensured that Liverpool is not the hardest part of this tour for me. I think it’s great when so many people join in. That’s like the whole floor area of the arena standing up at once, in unison, against poverty. All those people believing that governments should do more to provide people with their basic rights to good quality healthcare and education. Imagine if you just took away all the running taps, plasters, first aid workers, and hygienic cooking areas in this venue. The show probably wouldn’t happen. If nobody had access to an education, there might not even be anyone working here. But they are. Why couldn’t the same thing happen anywhere? Good quality and affordable healthcare and education are some of the things many countries’ prosperity is built on. It’s not a new idea. Oxfam believes it’s about time everyone had the same chance.
2044 people can make a lot of noise if they want to. When joined by all the tens of thousands of others, who have signed up with Oxfam on this ‘Viva’ Coldplay tour, in 2008, the noise is loud and clear. Change is possible. One person can make a big difference.
Just look at those 4 people on stage singing the last chorus of ‘Viva La Vida’. They wrote a song. Now people are singing it even when they have stopped. That’s quite a powerful thing. When people join together on a cause they can be even more powerful. That’s what governments need. They need to know that people care and want to help change the world.
Who knows.. All those people screaming for an encore in there could be the tipping point.
I can hear the volume has dipped inside. ‘Green Eyes’ is now being sung out in the arena. I still can’t quite get over 1 in 4. Incredible stuff. We only had 20 volunteers.. Imagine if we’d had 80!

#42 and the nasty flu
Don't get too close, readers. I'm full of cold. Being ill on tour (OK, I know, it's only the sniffles and a sore throat...) is a pretty rubbish experience. If I had a sensible job, I would have called in sick and spent the day under the duvet feeling sorry for myself. That's not really an option in my line of work, so instead, I've turned up to a cold and draughty arena and felt sorry for myself here. Really, I should get the juicer going in catering and load up on healthy vitamins. Maybe later. For now, tablets, vitamin water and self pity are the order of the day.
So what's been happening here? Well, we finished up in Birmingham. The third night's crowd are memorable particularly for a rather excellent bout of Mexican Wave-ing (if indeed such a term exists) before the show. Then, after two glorious days off, we arrived up in Glasgow.
The SECC in Glasgow is where we started the UK arena shows on the Rush Of Blood tour. It all seemed very huge and grown up back then. The show that we have today is immense in comparison and the band on stage are no longer finding their feet and learning their craft. They now seem very comfortable, confident and capable on an arena stage. Of course, the one thing that hasn't changed is the Glasgow crowd - ever reliable as some of the best voices on the planet. They're in fine voice this evening and not only belt out the biggies like Fix You and Viva, but they're singing melodies from within all the songs - not just the vocals, but the guitar parts too. Good work folks!
We get back to our rather splendid hotel, a grand old manor house, and find that there is a wedding party in. We're all sitting around the bar for a swifty when someone's acoustic guitar comes out and the voices are off again. Will and Jonny shyly decline an invitation to give them a song, but this doesn't dampen their enthusiasm one jot and they're giving it loads deep into the night. There's definitely something in the water up here....
Right, I'm going to find a flightcase to curl up on and I'll catch up with ya again in a couple of days. Meantime, I should leave you with a quick tale of Roadie glory. Bash is Will's drumtech. He's been with the band for a very long time now and is one of the most colourful characters on the road (which is saying something...). In Bash's younger (and more single) days, the back lounge of the bus was referred to as "Bash's office" for reasons we'll draw a veil over for now. So when this leg began and the 'core crew' found themselves on a "star bus", the choice for who got the insanely oversized bedroom at the back was obvious. Here's Bash enjoying his new home....

Michie's Mega Review Pt. 1
So at about 4.30 I text Mari and ask her if she wants to meet up. She's been wandering around the Albert Dock all afternoon and has seen everything there is to see. It is also extremely cold.
So me, my friend Mike and her meet up and decide to go to for pizza. Mari is soooo lovely and very funny :D Anyway we wait for a good 45 minutes to be seated, seems everyone else has had the same idea of getting something to eat before the show. So after ordering off some bullshit "theatre" menu and then after being overcharged, we head towards the arena next door.
The security was really lax, we were just walking through doors looking for our seats, no-one was stopping us or checking our tickets....something we used to our advantage later on...more on that later :D
So eventually someone decides to show us to our seats, to my great surprise and delight row K is only 6 rows back :D The perfect view. Dead centre. Mari was about another 6 rows behind us.
Eugene Francis Jr was already playing as we arrived, he was pretty good, talked to the crowd a lot, said the bassists family were here (they were sitting in front of us and were later joined by the band) and gave out free CD's and t shirts to the crowd. :D
After they went off Jon Hopkins came on, who wasn't that terrible, he was nice background music. Unfortunately everyone was leaving there seats as he started to play.
As our section started to fill up, we noticed quite a few older, well dressed, type people. In fact we were surrounded by them! I (as it quickly become apparent) WRONGLY assumed that the crowd would be quiet and not up for the screaming, dancing and singing I had in mind. Ha. Shows what I know.
So after Jon finished I had a look for Mari. All the security had left the section so we hatched a plan. :sneaky: I gave her my ticket and took her coat and went and sat back down with Mike. Whilst she wandered around the arena until Coldplay started. She would then use my ticket to get into our section after the show had started and we all stood up. We knew it would work because, as I said, the security were really lax.
So I sat back down and waited for Jay-Z to start, and waited, and waited, and waited. The roadies had finished setting up, the lighting dudes were on their seats high above the arena, the curtain was down. And nothing. I later found out that Mari had asked someone when the show was starting (as she was running out of places to go in the arena) and they looked at their watch and said "about ten minutes ago"
There was a commotion at the side of the arena and people were screaming and taking photos, I thought at first it may have been Gwyneth, but couldn't see. Apparently it was Xabi Alonso and Robbie Fowler :D
FINALLY at about ten past 9, Jay Z started, people were dancing and cheering the dancing roadies. And I knew then...I was in for a good night

Michie's Mega Review Pt. 2
So Blue Danube comes on and everyone is clapping along and cheering (with no roadie promptingl) and FINALLY The Escapist starts to play...
Everyone stands up and cheers! Weeeee. I'm jumping up and down and screaming and hardly notice Mari pop up beside me. Mwahaha. Brilliant plan, executed to perfection. No-one around us minded. :D
So LIT starts and we can see four glowing lights as the boys come on, a closer look revealed they were sparklers  How random. They all had one each. Jonny's went out and Chris used his own to light it again :nice: Me and Mari were going wild, jumping and screaming, so excited after waiting for so long. :D
Next Violet Hill, the crowd started singing along from the get go, the boys were jovial to begin with but you could see they were loving it already. Chris ended the song with "If you're from Liverpool won't you let me know" Weeeee.
Clocks was epic as usual, the stage is soooo dark during it though, you can barely see anything. The multicoloured lazers are extremely cool though :D Chris played it very well, not hitting the wrong key every few seconds like he usually does :P His voice was in fine form too :D He did some leaning back off his stool action at the end too :D
IMP was next I immediately rang Kara and held my phone up until the second chorus, don't know if you can tell from the audio she posted but the crowd were sooo loud! As Jonny's big riff started Chris said how great we were and how that song was recorded in Liverpool :D I hung up before the ramp of love action, for obvious reasons, but my filming was blocked by stupid tall people with long arms. I got what I could but couldn't see much. :( Chris did fling his arm around Jonny as they walked back up the ramp though. Much to our delight :D
Speed of Sound was next, again another big crowd sing along :stunned: They were singing everything it was unbelievable.
More to come...

Michie's Mega Review Pt. 3
So by this early point the atmosphere was already incredible I can't even begin to explain it, I've never been to a gig where the audience are just so into it so early! Obviously this didn't go unnoticed by Chris who, after he had the house lights brought up, told us how incredible we were. He said again how so many songs were recorded in Liverpool and how they finally had somewhere to play them. He then decided to take advantage of our loud cheers by having a cheering competition.
He told the right side to cheer when Guy raised his hand, the left when Jonny did and the centre when Will did. :D The centre were loudest by far. Mwahaha. Go us! He did it over and over again though. "Guy, Jonny, Will, Guy, Jonny, Will, Guy, Jonny, Will..." They boys were having a great time as we all competed with one another, I have it all on film :D
So then Yellow started and what should appear above our heads? THE YELLOW BALLOONS! They're back and as big as ever! There were soooo many of them. They kept landing by poor Jonny who had about 7 at his feet  I took some film, but is very shaky due to them landing on our heads every 2 seconds. Was great though. And we all still managed to sing along. And then at the end, he got us to sing the last few lines, not once, not twice, not three times but FOUR times  Asking us to get louder with every go. Which we did. He had a massive smile on his face, it was just incredible! :stunned:
CSC next, Jonny (who I forgot to mention JB fans, has a new hat :P) was rocking out big style, jumping around, throwing his body around the stage. :D
Next they started playing a riff I didn't recognise, in my haste I got excited and text Jen saying it was a new song :shame: It wasn't. It was Lips Like Sugar :D They didn't sing though. Just played it through.
42, we all sang the beginning, and Chris did his usual silly dance as the guitar kicked in. Jonny was giving it some welly tonight :D At the end Chris milked us for loud singing AGAIN by getting us to song the last few lines and then the "ooooh" once we did that he celebrated by holding a very loud and very, very long note. :D
More to come...
Sorry these are bad, I have better pics and video I can't access at the mo :( Just so you can see the balloons :D

Awwwwwwww, it sounded so great! The cheering competition!!!
Jonny's went out and Chris used his own to light it again :nice:
AWWWWWWWWWWWW :nice:
Oh my god, that was fucking amazing.
I've seen The Killers, Radiohead, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys all live before but this was by far the best concert I've ever been to. Just incredible :D
I agree (albeit maybe not RH) with this so much!! Coldplay give you so much at their shows... quite literally 'nothing else compares".
I saw Kings of Leon on Monday, then Coldplay on Tuesday. KOL came nowhere NEAR close to Coldplay :dozey:

Michie's Mega Review Pt. 4
Next was Fix You, I don't think I need to tell you how loud we were. We sang the whole thing, start to finish, it was the loudest I'd ever heard a crowd sing...up until that point of course :sneaky: Guy clapped us at the end. Weeeee.
Strawberry Swing next, which I just love, we all clapped along with Guy :nice: Lots of lovely little Chris and Jonny moments too, girlies, at one point Chris was looking over to Jonny and singing the lines "Now the sky could be blue, I don't mind, without you it's a waste of time" :nice:
So they head on over to the B stage and because of the lax security and the weird layout of the arena we all got to move over and we were INCHES from them :bomb: So so close! No one cared that we'd rushed the stage. Was awesome! I have some excellent ass shaking footage that I'll get up as soon as I can :D They played GPASUYF and Talk but I honestly don't remember much due to being in a daze at how close we were :bomb: As they walked off me and Mari decided to be a little fangirlish and scream for Jonny  It was loud and I'm sure he heard, but he didn't turn around. Booo :P
Next was The Hardest Part, we were so close, we could literally see the sweat pouring down Chris' face :stunned: His back hunched over the piano, playing it faultlessly, it was amazing. His voice was beautiful, best it has sounded in a while. I'm sure he slipped another Liverpool line in there too, but I can't be sure. It was followed by Postcards, again it was amazing to see him work so close up, completely focussed, you could actually see him pause over the keys, unsure if he had it right, hehe. He did :D
Next was VLV we all scrambled back to our seats (where I discovered some lovely person had spilt two bottles of beer in my bag!) whilst singing along with Will. :D As Chris stepped up to the keyboard I saw him mouth 'are you okay?' to Jonny, who smiled widely and nodded yes :nice: :D The "woahs" were soooooooo loud, so so loud  Me and Mari were jumping up and down our hands in the air and discovered that everyone else was going as crazy as we were! As the song ended Chris just dropped to the floor! He didn't get on his knees and bend back like usual, he just literally dropped like a limp doll to the floor! Hehe. We all carried on singing the "woahs" so loudly. We kept going on and on, I looked over towards the stage and Jonny and Guy were looking at each other visibly SHOCKED by how loud we were and long we were going. By the end I could barely breathe, I literally didn't have the energy to sing any more. It was incredible. In the end Chris had Will start Lost! I've never heard a crowd so loud before, I'm trying to convey just how epic this was. :bomb:
So Lost! starts, Chris is running around the stage, hassling poor Guy by doing crazy dances behind him! He did the thing with the drumstick too...as always  We all sang the "oooooo ahhhh ooooohhh" bit at the end and he got us to sing the last line with him AGAIN! He's such a little sing along whore :P
More to come :D
Again sorry about shitty pics, we've got stuff on two different camera you see, can't get the stuff off mine as yet :( Better than nowt though :D
