Okay guys and girls! I have some new info about the set-up at the MGM which might further explain the lack of front row seats.
Floor A-Rows A-M only have 2 to 8 seats per row.
Rows N-X will have about 20 seats per row.
Floor B-Rows A-X will have about 20 seats per row.
Floor C-Rows A-M only have 2 to 8 seats per row.
Rows N-X will have about 20 seats per row.
This is due to the unusual stage shape coldplay are useing for this tour. This means there are only about 275-350 seats in the first 12 rows. Looking at a detailed map-from a nice lady at the MGM. Some of the best seats off the floor, will be around sections L17-U17 Rows A-X
sections L16-U16 Rows A-X
sections L15-U15 Rows A-X
sections L14-U14 Rows A-X
If you are in L14, L15, L16, L17 Row A-you will in fact be front row also because of the way the stage is set up. You would also technically be front row if you have Floor A and C, Row N.
The stadium will be 13,000 capacity exactly!!!
Hope that this helps you!!!!

I'm beyond excited for this show!
Questions:
Anyone been to this venue b4? Seems smaller than the rest of the arenas. Being from LA where we have Staples Center, The Forum (2 shows) how does this arena compare to others? Sound? Seating (thanks tigermilk).. Size?
Tried to get tix for one of the 2 LA shows. But that was impossible. lol
p.s. Please fill free to share your Vegas trip itinerary (especially if your coming from California)!!!
As for me, got 2 tix, staying overnight, maybe go to Tao or Pure after the show...

I recently buy two tickets for LA show, so now I have two extra tickets for LAS VEGAS 19-JUL-08, those are in sec U8 row Q...
Let me know if anyone wants the tickets for the face value (99.50 each)+ TM charges ($ 233.15 both)+ Ship...
I will be in vacancies the in two weeks, so please tell me ASAP!
Thanks!!!
PM-me
I don't have tickets yet but I will most definitely be going, I'm travelling from San diego, I was looking for train tickets but flying is just so much cheaper, I'm planning to stay overnight in vegas, and then fly back on sunday
Just google mgm grand arena reviews on google and you'll find info about people who have been there, apparently it's state-of-the-art and has kick ass acoustics, so I'm pretty excited :D

Can anyone locate the arena on google earth?? I'm guessing it's the bulding next to the pool area, the one with the round driveway... it's strange that no one has posted pics

I first saw COLDPLAY in Chula Vista on the Twisted Logic Tour... it was beyond great...
As for Vegas, the show is less than a month away now and still seems too far!! lol
I myself am going from on day to the next, staying overnight on the strip somewhere. I checked the rates fo the MGM Grand Hotel. They're in the 200's a night. Not surprising for this hotel, but there are cheaper ones. Don't know where I'll be staying yet. Maybe hit up the casinos and rehab (if I work out for 5 hours every night til then), concert, then club after.
I heard the show is not very long. Again, not surprising. But we'll be in Vegas. So much to do before and after.
Anyone else, feel free to share your Vegas trip itinerary. Building the excitement!!!

I've got an extra pair of Vegas tickets in section 110, row EE. If anyone's interested, please IM me! I've been trying to sell it on Craigslist and I don't want to have to go to Ebay to sell this. I'd rather sell this in a fair way to a fan and I'm willing to decrease the price a bit just to get rid of these tickets. I found a better pair a couple days later so that's why I'm selling this pair. (Forget it, tickets have been sold!)
I have a room booked at the MGM Grand and I'm tempted to switch to the Imperial Palace just so I can get a cheaper rate. The MGM Grand room I got for $179 a night (go to Smartervegas.com (http://www.smartervegas.com/) and find hotel promotion codes there, I forgot which one I used, but it worked). I'm thinking I might get there a day early too. I'll definitely be hitting up the bars and etc. that weekend :)

Just saw Coldplay last night @ the Forum and was blown away. I've seen them twice before, but this has to be BY FAR their best concert.... Chris was just SO FULL OF ENERGY. I went crazy and sitting here w/ a post concert high, I just HAD to buy a ticket to their LV show. I have a pretty good seat (L13) and will be by myself. So, for those of you who are around me.. be nice :) It' s my 1st concert experience alone :)
Also, in regards to the cameras. Did anyone here go to the Irvine Verizon Wireless Amp, when they said, "NO CAMERAS", but during the show the screens prompt us to take out the cameras and take a damn picture!! That pissed me off, having to walk back to my damn car in the huge parking lot just to put it away. So, ever since then, I've hid my camera. Last night, the security guard asked if I had one, and I said, "No".. and everyone and their momma had one out last night. My camera isn't too tiny, either. It's a lumix. TRY sneeking it in.. It'll be worth it :)
Anyhoo. I'm so excited for the LV show!!!

Hey, weird coincidence- I, too, went to the L.A. show last night, I'm going to the Vegas show, AND I have a Lumix camera (which I'm definitely sneaking in). :D
Don't worry about going to the show alone, you'll still have fun! I go to shows by myself from time to time here in L.A. because not all my friends have the same taste in music like I do, and I like going to a lot of shows.

isn't the Lumix great? The quality of the video mode is excellent. :) Lemme guess, Costco, right? hehe. I just have to figure out the right setting. I'm not really camera savvy and kinda screwed up my pics :embarassed:.. I kinda went thru. the night using the "candlelight" mode. Any tips?
I know what you mean. My friends aren't as hardcore as I am when it comes to certain bands. The only person I'd feel completely comfortable w/ is myself, sad to say. My ex-bf would only go cuz I wanted to, but I felt like he was bored just standing there.. and last night I went w/ a friend who didn't know who coldplay was....:\ but she liked it.. but she wasn't reeling after the show as i was... Not her cup of tea, I guess.

I went to the 7/15/08 concert at the Forum all by myself. Went with my DH and cousin on 7/14/08 and it was soo amazingly awesome that I found myself searching for a ticket online the next morning, with DH's blessing of course. Vegas is calling my name now! I've come to the realization that Coldplay is now like Paris to me - the more times I go, the more I get obsessed!

There wasn't anything that incredibly different about this show from the previous ones. Chris made some Vegas references. Said Lost! wasn't supposed to be gambling advice. Sang Green Eyes better than the album, I thought. Wonderful performance that. Viva La Vida was way better live than I was lead to believe on television. Uhm, the Bill O'Reilly thing was funny. Guy was on the casino floor taking pictures during the day. No one really seems to notice him all that much. Chinese Sleep Chant was pretty cool with the lasers and stuff.
What I was most impressed with was that they were able to fire up a (mostly) Vegas crowd. Crowds here are usually pretty shit.

Oh yeah, definitely. I'm just tired. It was 117 here today and I was out on the strip for most of it. OMG, ditto. I will be very very very very jealous if the next city were to get that! But hearing Green Eyes was so lovely.
I think the crowd at this show was better than the Forum show I went to (the one on the 15th). I was on the floor this time around, and kinda further back but the crowd seemed like they were really into everything, including the new stuff too. The crowd singing "whoooa ohhhh ohhh ohhh" after Viva La Vida was done was awesome to hear and be a part of.
I hope I don't have to wait too long to see the band again! I saw that Anaheim date on that tour t-shirt and I'm so curious about when that's supposed to be.

During Chinese Sleep Chant, Chris sings, obviously. At certain points Guy does as well. Guy's voice is processed through what sounds like a vocoder to make it sound more robotic. It sounds fantastic. It was just a real subtle but brillant addition. That whole song impressed me, actually.

The crowd at the Forum on the first night was alot better than San Jose- for me anyway. The level of energy was much higher in Los Angeles.
There was this one couple in particular who sat behind us and they just didn't want to be there. He even grabbed my sister's arm after complaining about her taking pictures with her camera phone (apparently it blocked his view). Those people really wasted good floor seats... Give it to the real fans who'll enjoy it....

Only a 6.5? Wow.
And of course the band was tired... they've been up late and playing nonstop for the past week. Especially Chris... I feel bad for him, with all the jumping around and intense piano playing he's been doing, I'm not sure how he can do it for like, 4 more months. :(

Oh, how has no one mentioned Guy's robot vocoder voice during Chinese Sleep Chant? That was awesome.
You should read reviews from other shows :P
I'm loving that song even more live, it's hypnotising
I think it's great they're changing the acustic song in each city, so you don't know what to expect =)
i see green lasers in one of those faraway pics! Please someone tell me they started using them in Clocks again
Dunno about this show, but they did use green lasers at the San Jose show the other day...I don't think it was during Clocks though. :\

I went and I thought it was a great show! The only thing I would have loved to hear another slow song like Amsterdam but that isn't a complaint.
Chris also did seem very tired, both my husband and I thought so. I can see why though after the non-stop schedule. He forgot like a line to one of the songs (I honestly cannot remember which one right now) an he said "Wow, that was really embarrassing!"
I loved hearing Green Eyes and Death Will Never Conquer.....will has a spectacular voice, who would have thought....!

So to expand on my early review...I gave a 6.5/10. It was a good Coldplay concert, I am satisfied with my evening. Was it a great Coldplay concert? No, I can't say it was for me! But I have seen Coldplay headline Glastonbury and other memorable gigs in Australia, Italy, UK and US. So given past experience, this ranked as good. I mean everything was there, nice set-list, light show, stage, effects but it just felt like coldplay by numbers, the check list was ticked but inspiration lacked, though there was perspiration. I went to LA on Monday and thought that was a better performance.
I thought the sound was off early in the set-Chris was trying to sort out the vocals with his tech. But the first two to three songs his vocals were off due to technical problems-which got fixed. But generally, I thought he sounded and looked tired-far less chatty than he usually is. It is a personal opinion but I think they should cut back on their touring/promoting schedules. They really do overload themselves and the effects of just one week of touring showed. I just got a general impression that this could be their last world tour for a long time! I can't explain it, but it was like watching 'the verve' before they split-up. There was some unexplainable strained tension to the performance. Maybe it is some cabin fever. Hopefully they can rest and relax!!
But the highlights were the new material and some interesting mix-ups of older songs. It is nice how they actually use the arena and perform thru it. I can't really name a stand out moment song, I have 3 or 4!
So all in all it was very good by most standards-just a good by coldplays much higher standards. Was it worth $100? Yeah, for front row seats next to the stage it was well worth it!

I am still getting over the high from last night. I swear I had butterflies in my stomach right before the concert started. You would think I was going to perform with my anxiety. We played some roulette right before the concert started and some of the crew were playing at
the same table. Some of the guys were hott! Everyone around the casino was talking about the band and the casino played their music all night.
I didn't really care for the opening bands much. Right before Coldplay came out I saw Deryck from Sum 41 walking around the arena floor looking for where his seats were going to be. I didn't realize who he was until Coldplay came on and I saw him with Avril. Avril was trying to be incognito with a black hoodie on....they are both soooooo skinny and little. Avril looked bored during the gig but Deryck was into it a little while he wasn't on his phone. The entire venue was booked and the crowd around me were ok but didn't really know all the new songs.
Life In Technicolor (intro)-I think its a fabulous opener and really got the crowd going but to me their is nothing like politik as an opener.
Violet Hill-This song isn't one of my faves from the album and their are soooo many lyrics but I still loved it live.
Clocks-Amazing
In My Place-Chris was singing this right in front of us and this girl on the arena floor wasn't looking at him so he reached down and touched her hair.
Viva La Vida-I honestly think Chris has never sounded better on this track. I had goosebumps from the opening lyrics. The crowd was really into and continued to sing even after it was over.
Yes-My fav song off the album and it sounded amazing live.
42-My other fav off the album.
The Scientist-This song was amazing and everyone sang along.
Strawberry Swing-A lot of people didn't know this one but it sounded soooo great live and Chris was really into it and I can tell he loves this song.
Chinese Sleep Chant-It was great to hear Guy!
God Put A Smile Upon Your Face-At first I didn't know what song it was but when I realized it I was stunned. This song has always been amazing to me and it sounds like a totally different song no.
Speed Of Sound-great
Yellow-Chris always reminds us that this song made them famous.
Lost!-loved it
Green Eyes-Chris sang it with such a beautiful softness and it was funny because when they were trying to all get together and play this old lady was right next to them and it looked she didn't want to move.
Death Will Never Conquer-Chris said will had a voice like an angel and talked about the Killers being so great.
-----
Politik-Chris was banging the hell out of the piano and his voice was amazing. He incorporated Avrils name and Derycks into the lyrics.
Lovers In Japan-loved every minute of it
Fix You-This song has sentimental value for me and always makes me cry like a baby.
---
Death And All His Friends-amazing
The Escapist (outro)-amazing
This being the ninth time I have seem them live I am always shocked with how much they always surprise me. The first time I saw them back in 2000 or 2001 doesn't even compare to where they are now. I love the band and where they are taking their music but I think that the setlist should be longer and they need to play more b-sides. Chris dances around a lot and sometimes I think he looks insane. Something was wrong with the beginnings of th first three or four songs I think. They only played one song from the first album? and one song from x and y? Of course I want to hear the new songs but really I feel that the fans want to hear a lot of the old ones. I would love to hear Shiver, Spies, Life is for living, Amsterdam, What if, White Shadows, Warning sign, We Never change, and all the b-sides.
I loved the butterflies during the gig and I look forward to seeing them again in November in Dallas!

In my opinion, Coldplay began touring its new album too early. Don't get me wrong, I respect the band's decision to perform so many songs from its new album. And I'm not necessarily expecting a "perfect" performance every outing. (In fact, Coldplay's humility is one trait that really draws me to the band.) But during so many points throughout the Las Vegas concert, vocals were completely drowned out by instruments, feedback distorted entire songs, lyrics were missed (how do you forget lyrics to Speed of Sound when you've performed it every night for the past week and throughout a previous tour). I'm not questioning the guys' passion or talent for one second, but the live performance didn't do Coldplay justice. I'm not sure whether this was the same crew that's been with the band on past tours, but the production side of the evening was reflective of a mid-level band. Don't get me wrong, the butterfly confetti during Lovers in Japan, singing two songs from the upper deck, the giant circular video screens- these were all nice touches. (And some of the new songs, especially Lovers in Japan and Death and All His Friends, are quickly becoming some of my all-time favorites.) But if Las Vegas' show was representative of the other four shows performed so far in the tour, then something's not quite right with this show, from an overall production standpoint. Does anyone on the website agree with me, or did I just completely miss it last night?

Does anyone on the website agree with me, or did I just completely miss it last night?
I'm glad you noticed.... I remember hearing people in the audience at the end saying, "OMG, it was SO incredible/awesome/great, etc....And i was like
I went to their 2nd show at the Forum in LA and it was really really good... which is why I shelled out over $120 for a pretty good lower seat and drove all the way to Vegas. (and got into a little fender bender on the way and had to sit in the hot sun for over an hour waiting for the hwy patrol..:(.... but I digress..)
All I could remember thinking throughout more than 1/2 of the concert was "Chris Martin is gonna pass out on stage out of either exhaustion or drunkedness" I wasn't sure... and it also looked as if he was losing his voice (but now I understand it might've been an audio problem). I know that there were more than 3 songs that Chris messed up the lyrics (Strawberry Swing, Speed of Sound...etc.. :( ) I was actually nervous that they would actually cancel the concert. I can't remember the song, but it was the one right before "The Scientist" where it looked like Chris didn't wanna sing the last part b/c he was SO exhausted and ran over to the piano while struggling to take off his jacket and slowed it down a bit.... it was kinda....awkward?..
This show was definitely not representative of their 2nd show in LA at least, b/c that was an outstanding performance. In the LA show, Chris was full of energy, was animated, his singing was top notch-he literally did not skip a beat...and the list goes on. But again, my only real conclusion was that the boys were in vegas and they got a little tipsy gambling. (hopefully...) Otherwise, if they're burnt out this early, it's not a good sign for the upcoming concerts.
My other rant was about the majority of the audience. Though there were some good points to the audience (VLV-Ooooh-ing), but overall, the audience sucked. I'm sorry to say, but most were just standing there. Two guys left before the encore and the girl behind me was drunk and annoying. Plus the people up in the very front were disappointing as well....I didn't see much craziness going on up there. It looked as if they were more excited to actually make it up there then they appeared during the concert! I really think the band feeds off the audience...which may explain a few things.
Oh well. I did enjoy my time there. I wouldn't rather be anywhere else but experiencing Coldplay that night. Whatever the problem was, I hope it's fixed, whether it's much needed rest, technical problems, whatever.... I'm confident as the tour progresses, things will only get better :smug: Now, I'll just cross my fingers for that phantom Anaheim gig ;)

i wasnt at the shows but from the videos ive seen i agree with u...........but ive only seen youtube videos and if it sounded the same then like i said ya i agree with you.............but i think its cause they just barely started with the tour and with more concerts they do the better there gonna sound..........SOOOO VIVA COLDPLAY!!!!!!!!!!.....:D
I agree. I'm excited to see Coldplay again in November, with 3-4 months of touring under its belt. (And in case I didn't mention it, any Coldplay is better than no Coldplay.) But for a lot fans, $90+ is a lot of money. So when you attend a concert that clearly hasn't been fine-tuned, you have to wonder why a band would schedule a tour so quickly?
If you're going to begin a tour so soon after releasing a new album, then maybe you ease your way into the new material. But based on its current setlist, neither Coldplay nor its crew were ready for this tour.

Great review and assessment, yay_me. Hope everything with the desert fender bender works out alright! I'm inclined to say that exhaustion was playing a factor. The guys had two days off in between the 2nd LA show and San Jose, but one of those "off" days had them doing the Tonight Show and the KROQ house performance, not to mention Chris getting up early for an interview w/ Ryan Seacrest. They've got to be tired. Hopefully these two days in between Vegas and the first Chicago show are truly off days with no other appearances or publicity events scheduled.

Hello, and Thank You :) I actually felt a little bad for them.. I know Chris sweats a lot, but he was sweating pretty badly early on. Which is why my conclusion would be that he was drunk and now that I think of it, possibly sick. Maybe the 3 years they took off was a bit too much of a good thing in terms of having to resume the rigorous life of touring:) I'm sure it'll only be matter of a few weeks till they're back in the swing of things and will resume playing mindblowing gigs :)
Oh yes in regards to our fender bender.., Actually it was my brother driving his girlfriend's car. Some idiot cut off the guy in front of us, who slammed on his breaks @ a red light and we couldn't react in time and hit the guy in front of us. Of course the idiot that cut us off was fine and sped off when the light turned green, but there we were, left in the sun. My poor brother has to pay for the guys damages, his girlfriend's deductible and to add insult to injury, the cop fined my brother for being too close to the guy in front of him (???) Oh well, sh** happens.

Chris doesn't drink yay_me, so he wouldn't have been drunk.
I'm inclined to think it's exhaustion, he's been looking really tired of late, pushing himself to the limit, plus he's an insomniac.
They've had a pretty gruelling schedule up to now and during gigs he never stops moving, not even for a second. Chances are during these two days off he'll crash out and just sleep, if he realy is as exhausted as everyone thinks he is, someone will say something to him, whether it be his family or his three best mates touring with him.
I bet he's back and livelier than ever tomorrow :)

i don't understand why people cares this much into Chris's family life:rolleyes:
just for 2 hours of show no one in this world will get stressed and that too on that day for Today show when i waited like entire night to the morning to see the show i just got some what weak but after i got to the hotel at NY i slept for 5 hours and i am alright again.
but through out the show they're drinking everything from water to coffee.
Then why does they get tired:rolleyes:
I don't understand some people here though.Very strange.
and also just for two hours of show they're getting tired oh my god!:o
one thing is clear here some people not necessarily are involving so much into
Chris's family life and also not necessarily like his health care even though if there is need for them or not.
i don't understand the particular reason there.

Group skilled at making big rooms feel small
He looked like a muscle spasm incarnate, a drunken ballerina, twitching, trembling, leaping, lunging, posing and pinwheeling about the stage, as if his flesh were a prison he was trying to escape from.
Through it all, he smiled like the cat who not only ate the canary, but devoured most of its kin as well.
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is not prone to small gestures -- he's the kind of guy who favors bear hugs over handshakes, wet kisses over dry eyes -- and his band follows suit: their tunes spin on an axis of melodrama and emotional extravagance, with even their quietest moments tending to build toward something grand and deafening.
As such, they're an ideal arena rock band in an age where increasingly few contemporary acts sound at home in large halls.
But as they demonstrated at a packed MGM Grand Garden on Saturday night, this bunch is skilled at making big rooms feel small.
Part of it is logistics: The band's fond of hurling themselves at the crowd, and at times, they play within arms reach of their adoring fanbase.
Midway through the show on Saturday, the group decamped to a small, illuminated platform on the arena floor, and, huddled together in one another's armpits, they deconstructed a pair of tunes with electronic drums and an enveloping, melodic drone.
Later on in the show, the foursome marched through the crowd to the rafters in the back of the venue, where they played spare, acoustic versions of "Green Eyes" and "Death Will Never Conquer," the latter sung by drummer Will Champion (how's that for a name?).
Proximity aside, the main reason Coldplay seems tailored for cavernous spaces is the songs themselves: they sound as if they were written with stadiums in mind, and indeed, they elicited some soccer-style chants from the raucous, rabid crowd throughout the show.
Plus, Coldplay puts the hammer down on the majority of its catalog live, hence a song like the band's breakout hit, the contemplative, understated ballad "Yellow," grows fangs on stage with the band turning it into a lusty sing-along complete with crashing drums and lots of fists in the air.
During its 90-minute set at the MGM Grand, Coldplay played almost all of its latest album, the dense, searching "Viva La Vida," and rightfully so: it's the band's trickiest, most hard-to-pin down effort, an album that veers from textured soundscapes to exultant art rock.
Moody, dark-hued rocker "Yes" blossomed like a black rose on stage, with Jonny Buckland's guitar ricocheting through the song in haunting arcs, "42" morphed from a porcelain-delicate ballad to a climactic rocker while an organ-fired "Lost!" got the crowd clapping along with hands over their heads.
The band matched its sonic ostentation visually, with a half-dozen large projection globes dangling from the rafters, pistoning up and down.
And during a triumphant-sounding "Lovers in Japan," an ocean of multicolored papier-mâché butterflies rained down from above, marking the crowd feel as if they were caught in the midst of a ticker tape parade.
And in a way they were.
The show felt like an extended victory lap for a band at the peak of its powers, a big, sweaty (and deserving) high-five to the ego.
"I'm just waitin' for the shine to wear off," Martin sang at one point, and if this night was any indication, he'll be waiting a little while longer.

That version of Green Eyes is beautiful. He did some cool things with it. And Chris has some new moves I see in the Lost video. Wow, he looks a bit crazy at one point. Had me laughing. I am glad he is using his freedom of expression. It's taken him all these years probably to be able to dance as he wants on stage, so I say "dance like a crazy person Chris. Go for it!"

(And some of the new songs, especially Lovers in Japan and Death and All His Friends, are quickly becoming some of my all-time favorites.) I'm going to have to agree with you. I only saw their San Jose show on this tour so far, but it was not up to the standard of their previous tour. And yes I thought poor production had a lot to do with it. It did not have the bombast and high level of excellence that the band seemed to reach on the last tour, and as I mentioned in my San Jose review the circular "magic balls" don't quite deliver and certainly don't take the place of the better executed large projection screen of the last tour. And yes I noticed Chris seemed tired, not his usually chatty self and he moved a bit less than usual if you ask me. If he needs to sit at the piano a bit more I would have no objections, but something else just seemed a little off. The band just didn't seem as engaged as I've witnessed them in the past, on the last tour you really got the feeling there was no where else they would rather be than on that stage, it didn't feel like that this time. I was hoping it was just our show, I'm sad to hear its happening elsewhere. A note on the audiences, with the exception of the die hard fans, they are clearly not responding to the new material very well. This didn't happen with X & Y, and if were noticing that, the band is probably noticing it too, which might effect the overall vibe of the show. I don't know, I just hope they work it all out and if need be get some much needed rest.

#42 reports on a magical night in Vegas
http://www.coldplay.com/graphics/news_line.png
San Jose sees set-list tweakage continue. The LA shows have gone very well and feedback has largely been extremely positive. The band, however, aren't really ones for auto-pilot. Everyone is very pleased with the show, but the search for the ultimate knockout punch continues. To this end, Politik is pulled out of storage and gets a good airing. I can't really see the point in ever doing a Coldplay show without it myself. It is truly monstrous live and tonight is no exception. It's very good to see it back! From where I am through the gig it feels like the first utterly solid show. Inevitably, my response to the gig is largely built on whether things have technically worked or not - and tonight is very smooth on that front, which is very gratifying this early in the tour. As soon as we get into the vehicle for the ride home, the band are discussing other ways to improve the flow and refine the set. It's all subtle tweaks, but at this point, improvements are based on many tiny changes, rather than single grand gestures. One more show and then two glorious days off...
We hit the ground in Vegas and Tour Manager Franksy finds the Tannoy mic at the back of the plane to welcome everyone with his finest Elvis impression. Outside the window, the vehicles that meet us have multiplied into a true cavalcade to accommodate the selection of LA's finest who've accompanied us for a Saturday night jolly. Chris remarks that looking out at them on the tarmac makes him feel like the president of soft rock. It's almost the perfect arrival, spoiled only by the minor detail that the steps they've bought for disembarking turn out to be the wrong size. We all sit back down as the man with the ladder-on-a-van turns tail and heads off in search of something that fits.
It seems it's been a tough day for the rest of the crew. When we arrive, I overhear someone on radio saying "I gotta go get breakfast". Given that it's 5pm when we arrive, it seems safe to say it's been a busy day here. After the ten hour drive from loading out in San Jose, the trucks only arrived at 11am, which means they've performed nothing short of miracles to get the show up and ready in only a fraction of the time they usually have. Hats off folks!
Though everyone is happy to be in town, there is a slight concern pre-show. Vegas crowds can be pretty hard to impress. It's not like they're short of options for how to entertain themselves of an evening - and more than that, I think sometimes folks can be just plain over-stimulated. Lets face it, any town that can take in its stride hotels with their own roller coasters, next to pyramids, sphynxes and full-sized pirate ships is going to find a few flashing lights and a pop group pretty uninspiring.
Or are they?
It would appear not! The crowd are utterly bonkers from the off. So much so, that I spend the majority of the evening with one earplug out so I can take in the sound of the crowd. I'm wondering if it's the loudest Viva La Vida singalong so far, or whether it's just that I've never been listening for it before. My question is answered when the song finishes and the crowd simply carry on singing. They roar the chorus on alone and it's utterly wonderful. It's the kind of football chant-style crowd noise that I've only really ever heard before in South America or certain parts of Europe and here they are in a "hard to impress town" giving it loads! Inevitably, the enthusiasm of the crowd drives the band on to new heights. I don't want to spend the whole tour writing "it was a great show" in this journal, but tonight was truly remarkable, it has to be said.
See you in a few days...

Here is the review from the Las Vegas Review Journal. I am enjoying reading everyones views-good or bad or indifferent. Everyone has a different experience to tell.
:stunned:

Ive been to the San Jose and Vegas show. And i thought that the lighting show was better last tour. The way they used the screen last year with all the visual effects were awesome.I guess its just a small thing. The important thing is them perorming and maybe they just want to make sure that they perform the songs to the best of their abilities and not get too overboard with the light show.i dont know. But they did use the screen a little more in the Vegas show showing the band on the screen. In the san jose show they only showed the band on the screen during fix you.The used the magic balls mostly for that. The only thing with that is u cant really get a good picture of them on the balls. But it is still early and there have already been little changes in the setlist and use of the big screen. So im sure they will figure it out and get it rolling.

Green Eyes

I also have an audio recording of the entire show, however it was taken with the audio portion of a camera just set on the seat, so the quality isn't great, and it gets bumped and knocked around a lot. Uploading is taking FOREVER, so I will post them if they ever finish.
I don't remember who said something about the Anaheim show on the tour shirt, but was there a date for it? I didn't get to the merch stand because the lines were always so long so I didn't even see the tour shirts. I'm seeing them in Phoenix in November but I really would like to see them again before that.
Here's a few pictures, I was having camera issues so a lot of them are blurry, but here are a couple that came out alright:

The crowds are singing, the lights are dimmed, guitar riffs can be heard from miles away... That is how I would describe Coldplay's July 19 concert at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
The concert started out with a local hip-hop new age artist performing some drum beats with an accompanying animation. Overall, the crowd enjoyed it, but were patiently awaiting Coldplay. Next, ten minutes later, a band came out with a vocalist, guitar, bass violin, piano, and tambourine. I believe they introduced themselves as "Shoewater". They travel with Coldplay on their tour. Shoewater played a type of folk rock music. The crowd cheered, but were beginning to become impatient.
Soon, Coldplay came out with the melodic "Life in Technicolor" from their new album "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends". Everything after that was history. Coldplay dazzled the crowd with loud yet soothing guitar riffs and laser light shows during "Clocks" and the "Chinese Sleep Chant". Crowds screamed when Coldplay performed two songs in the crowd, including a song sung by drummer, Will Champion. When Coldplay exited through the normal crowd exit, prior to their first encore, hordes of fans could be seen rushing through the exit to see the band before they returned backstage.
After a funny video clip of Bill O'Reilly accusing singer, Chris Martin, of plagiarizing the song "Talk", Coldplay came out with a few more tunes including "Yellow" and "Strawberry Swing". Finally after two hours of fun and excitement with Coldplay, the band came back for one last song "Death and All His Friends". Fans were sad when Coldplay left for the final time, but we're deeply satisfied with their performance. The concert went off without a hitch, except for Chris Martin forgetting the third verse of "Speed of Sound" for a brief moment. No one seemed to notice except Martin who then said "Gosh, that was embarrassing."
The concert was great, the stage was amazing, the effects such as the confetti during "Lovers in Japan" dazzled the crowd, and fans left with an even deeper love for Coldplay than before.

So I have heard rumors (from someone well connected with music media in vegas) that Coldplay will call back in Vegas between the salt lake city 11/22 and phoenix 11/26. Has anyone else heard this?

No, but it could fit in. They hit the UK in early Dec. But Salt Lake City, Vegas, LA, Phoenix makes some sense. But I think you have to wait for Coachella.
