:D:D SO...at first got "fair seats" from Ticketmeister,, then went to fanprice.com and put in an offer for floor seats, and scored them within a half hour!!
I`m happy enough with the seats so I`ll stop there, and spring for the $$$big bucks$$$ seats when, HOPEFULLY, a SEATTLE or PORTLAND, OR show is announced!
So, guess that means Ive now got 2 spare tickets to OKC if anyone needs a seat....!

Unsure who exactly yet will be using those, may end up selling.
Have you seen Coldplay before?
I have, 3 times(London, Seattle, Portland) but never in OKC and I dunno if Ford Center is a good venue or not.

No, I haven't. I had tickets to the last time Coldplay came to OKC, but some things came up and I couldn't go. This is going to be my first time.
At my work some people were talking about taking their kids the Jonas Brothers concert at the Ford Center and they said it had bad acoustics which seems pretty upsetting... But we could just blame it on the horridness of the Jonas Brothers. :)

Hey all.
I'm going to the OKC show. I haven't seen Coldplay since Rush of Blood days at Red Rocks.
I've been checking out the set lists so far, and have a couple of questions.
Do they not play "Warning Sign" or "Green Eyes" anymore?
I love those songs, and hope one of them makes it onto the OKC
setlist.
Also, I'm seeing a song titled "Chinese Sleep Chant" on most of the set lists.
Does anyone know where this is from?

They have been doing on and off an acoustic version of Green Eyes, maybe we`ll get lucky.
Chinese Sleep Chant is a hidden track on Viva La Vida.

My boyfriend and I are going. I have been to 1 concert before when they came to OKC. It was so great I cried. I had floor seats then and you had to stand the entire time which was pretty exhausting. This time I went for lower level. My mom knows how much I love Coldplay so she surprised me and purchased tickets for me as well. Now I have some lower levels I am going to try to sell on Craigslist. I am super excited about the show.

Originally scheduled to perform in Oklahoma City on July 10, Coldplay finally roll their “Viva La Vida” North American Tour into the Ford Center on Sunday, Nov. 16, with special guests John Hopkins and Sleepercar in tow.
Due to production delays, Coldplay had to postpone several summer shows on the tour. Tickets already purchased for the July 10 date will be honored on Nov. 16.
Meanwhile, the British hitmakers' fourth album, “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends,” has sold more than 5 million copies — 5,728,000 to be exact — since its June 17 release, according to WorldWideAlbums.net. Globally, the album has become the biggest music success of 2008, topping World Wide's bestseller list.
The single, “Viva La Vida,” is the hottest selling album track so far, with more than 4 million combined CD and digital copies sold. Released prior to the album in early May, the song remains strong on charts around the world.
On Nov. 25, Coldplay will release “Prospekt's March,” an EP of eight songs that were originally intended for inclusion on the album. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin explains on the band's Website that the tracks weren't finished in time to meet the completion deadline for the “Viva La Vida” LP. The band will also release a deluxe two-disc “Viva La Vide: Prospekt's March Edition” on that date.
In other Coldplay news, the band has released a new video for “Lovers In Japan” on iTunes. Shot in London by Mat Whitecross, it's based on the new “Osaka Sun” mix of the song and features fireworks, butterflies and bassist Guy Berryman on a trapeze.
Meanwhile, entries have been flooding in for the “Lost?” video competition, in which the band is asking fans to make a video for the acoustic version of the track. The winner will receive an all-expense paid trip for two to see Coldplay in London in December, from wherever they live. Deadline is Nov. 30. For entry information, go online to http://emi.emreact.com/go.asp?/bEMU001/qPKNF5A/xIFX85A. To check out the best entries so far, head to the official Coldplay YouTube page.
The band says no swanky equipment is needed, just a good idea.

I just recently became a fan of coldplay. I think it was about 6 months ago I was on iTunes (yes, I buy my music from iTunes) and I happened to see the song Yello. I remembered hearing it on the radio and decided to go ahead and download it along with a couple of other songs on the Parachute album. A couple of days later I downloaded the rest of the songs and then about 2 weeks later i downloaded everything iTunes had for coldplay. I was hooked.
So now I am going to their concert in OKC and I can't wait.
Just for kicks I am blogging about my adventure. Check it out if you'd like.

TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT!
Oh how I have waited for this day since the 5th grade.
Funny story: My mother got a phonecall the other day while I was sitting in the living room. I heard her say something like "well we got 4 tickets" and " that would have been a long drive for nothing" so of course she was talking about the concert. I was freaked and my eyes glossed over (or so my sister tells me) and then my mom storms out of the living room and then back in a couple minutes later and tells me the concert has been canceled because there has been an "accident". I immediately burst into tears. It was terrible.

Crowd: Estimated 20,000.
Top highlight: In an evening full of highlights, "Viva la Vida” was one of the crowd’s favorites. Lead singer Chris Martin was almost evangelical, dancing and twirling around the stage, conducting the crowd and his fans, ending the song lying on the stage as the crowd sang his final notes.
Reviewer’s take: Coldplay impressed and energized its Oklahoma City audience playing many favorites from its long career, including "Clocks,” "Fix You,” and many from its latest album, "Viva la Vida.” Martin has so much energy and plays directly to his crowd, keeping them happy the entire time.

It’s hard to know what to love best about Coldplay — the music, of course, every rock ballad a smashing crowd favorite, but there’s also the high-energy stage presence of the band and its evangelical, marching-band leader. Then there’s the colorful retro grunge clothing reminiscent of the ’80s, the painted guitars and piano; and the pulsing laser light show complete with drop-down balloons that alternately change colors, go psychedelic or show images of the band in full symphony.
Coldplay’s debut concert at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City on Sunday night was a feast for the senses.
The band had two opening acts: Sleepercar, out of El Paso, Texas, which pleased the crowd with its strong vocals and nice harmony; and Jon Hopkins, who’s computer techno sound combined with animated graphics on a projector screen make one imagine a demented Dr. Seuss dropping acid.
But it was Coldplay the audience came to see, and from the opening swells of the first song, “Life in Technicolor,” the rowdy crowd was on its feet, dancing, singing and shouting appreciation — and the Brits more than returned the favor.
After the opening instrumental, Coldplay launched into “Violet Hill,” a song that asks, “If you love me, won’t you let me know.” The crowd roared its response. Martin’s piano was rolled onstage, and after a quick “Hi” the band played “Clocks,” a brilliant piano-driven piece that takes Martin’s voice through a range of octives. Lasers shot everywhere and the audience became almost frenzied. Next on the playlist was “In My Place.”
Martin displayed so much energy through each song — conducting the band, then the audience — all with a flick of the wrist or a wave of his arm. He skipped, twirled, marched, jogged in place, threw himself nearly into a backbend and ran from one side of the u-shaped stage to the other, at times appearing as if he would launch himself into the audience. At other times, he serenaded from his knees or even sang the final notes of songs lying flat on his back on the stage.
After “Speed of Sound” Martin said it was about time to say a proper hello. “We’re happier than we can possibly imagine to be here,” he said. Martin apologized for delaying the concert from its original scheduled appearance in July, but the crowd seemed overly pleased to have the band even four months late. Martin changed his lyrics several times to match his surroundings. On the eerie “Cemeteries of London,” the chorus became “and the night over Oklahoma City ...” In “Politik,” a line became, “Give me a street in Oklahoma City named after the Flaming Lips.”
As tradition in every Coldplay concert, Martin turned his microphone to his audience for the chorus on “Fix You,” and everyone sang along to one of the band’s most touching ballads. “That’s the best singing we’ve had in a long, long time,” Martin praised. Next, guitarist Jonny Buckland and Guy Berryman got the crowd to clap along to “Strawberry Swing,” from the latest CD “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends.” The single “Viva La Vida” brought the crowd to a new level of energy, jumping, dancing, clapping and singing along.
The Ford Center, which can hold up to 20,5000, was packed to the rafters except for sections behind the stage.
“I have to say that as a band we’re thoroughly impressed for a Sunday night in Oklahoma,” Martin said.
The band moved from center stage several times during the nearly 2-hour set going to a lighted box on stage left to sing “God Put a Smile UponYour Face” and “The Hardest Part,” then later to a stage in the rear of the arena just under the second level to sing, “The Scientist.”
Coldplay was near perfect, sounding every bit as great in person as they do on albums. Ironically, the only moment of loss during the night was when Martin’s voice broke on the final notes of “Lost,” but with a bit of laughter at himself, the audience cheered him on anyway.
One of the best moments of the night was during the song “Lovers in Japan” when multicolored paper butterflies rained down on the audience in a neon confetti. After singing “Death and All His Friends” the band left the stage to return for an encore of “Yellow.” Martin told the audience they’d sung everything they possibly could and wished everyone happy holidays before sending them off fully content. Viva La Coldplay.

Anyone have the set list yet. I want to burn a CD of the songs in order from the concert. Also if Karen / Englishsilk is out there send me a message I think I recorded the entire song he dedicated to you on my phone. Not top quality but I know that you might want it.

Well kids no one mentioned this but we got a song last night that
no one has heard before.
Coldplay did half of "Waiting for Superman" a cover
from the local boys Flaming Lips. Wayne of the lips was
probably there, I didn't see him, but I've seen him
at the Ford Center for other alternative acts.
We got a new song! nananana hehe!
Same set list otherwise. I was waiting and hoping for Green Eyes,
but the one off cover song was special, we can't get greedy can we?
On a personal note my girlfriend didn't realize we were
at a coldplay concert until we sat down. I told her we
were going to see a local band in club next to the Ford Center.
When we were walking by the Ford Center, I said suuuurprize
we are going to see a baketball game tonight. My girlfriend
looked completely shocked. So I pull out the tickets and we go
inside. We head to our section, and she asked why there was a stage
and no basketball floor set up. I said it was an ESPN game
and that they were probably having a concert beforehand.
She looked very confused. Finally we sat down 12 rows center
stage on the floor, and she looked around saw all the coldplay
t-shirts and caught on. We were only in our seats about10 minutes
before the lights went down.
Overall the crowd was better than expected, and as mentioned
in another review posted "good for a sunday night in oklahoma".
People really seemed to love the scientist acoustic bit. Fix You
was so damn good too. That was the moment my girl really
was hooked in to the show.
What a night!

From http://the-cuff.com/?p=233
I attended the Coldplay concert last evening in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and enjoyed the concert for many reasons but also noticed some areas of improvement for future Coldplay performances.
The Strengths
The drummer, Will Champion, may have stolen the show. His drumming pounded to the orchestated light show mixing with the bass riffs of Guy Berryman. Also, he moved to the center of the stage at one point in the show and graced the audience with a deconstructed performance of drums by using one large snare drum and an iron bell. Another time on a different part of the stage, he played a small electric drum kit. Overall, he created a unique sound of drumming that heightened the energy of the crowd. Finally, Champion played guitar on two songs and sang one of them–a country or maybe a folk song–while Chris Martin played the harmonica.
Jon Buckland’s guitar work has improved since his last performance in Oklahoma City, during the X&Y concert. He played more melodic notes over Martin’s lyrics and screeched the guitar in many different forms to songs that normally are clean and tight. Once again, Coldplay is at a stage in their career when they are no longer just pop stars; they played to their own desires at times, and Buckland imitated on the guitar the traditional Martin piano riffs while Martin ran across the stages in various directions as he bounced his body in seizure-like delerium.
They surprised the audience in different formats. They, of course, opened traditionally, but they played their quick hit, “Violet Hill,” first and moved on through the show in a rapid pace. Martin played the acoustic guitar more than I have seen in the past, and his movement from acoustic to piano was not clumsy as it has been in the past. At one point during the show, the lights were completely out, and all of a sudden, the band appears in a very small area literally cluttered together and performing with their instruments. After a few songs in this projected portion of the stage, Martin plays a bit on the piano, talks briefly, and sings a song with just his voice and the piano. He plays a bit on the piano again, stops, and then the band in their original place on the stage blasts into one of their hits. Everything was perfectly choreographed, as the crowd heightened with joy. Finally, their last format was to leave the stage altogether and walk through the audience…together. Typically, the lead singer leaves the stage alone, but here we see how much Coldplay has formed into a full unit beyond the voice and piano of Chris Martin. As they leave the stage, they arrive in another surprise location above the floor and on the 1st row of the Ford Center. Martin yells, “You on the front row can just go do your homework or get some pizza or something!” The crowd roared with excitement. Here, they played different instruments again: the mandolin, the acoustic guitar, the harmonica, and the bass.
The Weaknesses
Chris Martin, lead singer, may very well be the weakness of this concert. If you listen to the music with headphones, there is an intimacy between Chris Martin’s voice, the music, and the listener. At times, that intimacy is lost during this concert. When Bono of U2 performs, he captures that intimacy successfully, but Martin at times seems to be removed from the song’s thematic emotion and just sings the lyrics. He seemed more into jumping around the stage at times when he perhaps should not be jumping at all and heeding Bono’s advice and just lifting up his arms, singing a high note, and hearing the falsetto of his voice be another instrument to the audience. He does not have to show that emotional intensity on all songs, but even when he is alone playing the piano, his voice is there, but his connection to the harmonious rising of his soul is not.
Chris Martin, at times, does not finish his song. Or, he ends anti-climatically, even while the band rises to the occasion. I have seen him do this on television before as well. Instead of moving toward the last lyric, he pulls away too quickly and says, “Thank you,” or some other phrase to let the audience know the song is over. He has lost or forgot some of his ability to perform the song beyond performing the dance on the stage. However, I do like it when he sings the song a bit differently than the versions on the CDS. The audience cannot sing along at times, because his tempo is quicker or slower than what the song originally intended or what the band was originally performing. Yes, if the band was playing in 4/4 time, they sometimes had to listen to Martin’s movements and correct some of his meanderings with tempo. I didn’t see that so much as a weakness, however. It is a sign of the lead singer re-interpreting the music.
The encore was terrible. When they arrived on the stage again, they ended with “Yellow.” Yes, it is their hit, and they seemed a bit reluctant to play it. After playing it, they left quickly again never to return to the stage for another song. I expected more from the encore, and I even told the gentleman next to me that I hope they don’t even play that song. They could have dropped it earlier into the performance if they were forced to play it and then moved on to some of the more creative elements of their evolutionary band. For example, they mentioned the Flaming Lips. Why not end with a Flaming Lips song as a tribute to Oklahoma City. The crowd may have gone crazy! And then, they could have completed their encore performance with one other somber piece perhaps, such as “Til Kingdom Come” from their X&Y album, which they did not play.
---
Overall, I enjoyed the concert. I realize Chris Martin is a bit Attention Deficit Disorder on the stage. I also realize that he was definitely playing down his song performances to heighten the focus on the great music from Coldplay. They are a band that is growing musically, and to even hear them playing a mandolin in a live arena shows their movements into other genres of music and ideas. Godspeed Coldplay and come back to Oklahoma City again with your next grandiose performances!

Wow, okcthunder, what a boyfriend you are!!
I'm trying to piece together the setlist, any idea when they played that Flaming Lips bit?
:)
My best guess is that it was around
the The Hardest Part
Postcards From Far Away (piano instrumental) section.
Chris was at the piano when he sang it.
It was after the techno bit at the side of the stage, and before
the Politik encore.
I'd love to see a video of thit! They pulled it off
very well. I think it sounded great! I hope a video
or audio surfaces of the song.

I have seen U2 and Paul McCartney, and this show trumped them both.
It as...incredible. honestly words do not describe it.
Also thanks to the girls who dubbed me Violet Hill for making me feel a welcomed part of the Coldplay fandom.
I hope I get the chance to see them again in the future.

Here’s one I prepared earlier, from ‘OK’ City.
Good old fashioned pen and paper. How refreshing it can be. I’m scribbling away in the dark, next to stage right ‘guitar world’. Writing on the back of a Coldplay setlist, and leaning on an Oxfam ’Health and Education FOR ALL’ campaign booklet, on top of a road case..
I just saw Chris Martin run out to the front of the Coldplay stage, to bounce with the packed audience to ‘Viva La Vida’. There was a deafening roar when those strings kicked in. Now, if I look to my left, up the steps, there is Jonny, Will and Guy, starting up the thundering beat of ‘Lost!’. Two of the roadies just walked past me, carrying a small flight of stairs.. I guess the band will be leaving the stage soon, for an arena tour, here in Oklahoma City. Now the screaming begins, as they make their way through a mixture of bemused and excited fans. Here come those roadies again, with that flight of stairs.
The wonders of pen and paper, go way beyond my blog. Earlier, hundreds more Coldplay fans, penned their names, and gave their voices, to finding out what they can do to help fight poverty, with Oxfam. It’s a simple format. Marks of ink. But it’s a start. A way to get involved. To do what you can, at a concert - as part of this amazing night. Well over 50′000 people have done just that, on this tour so far. There were also a few hundred in Rotterdam, who typed their names to join Oxfam Novib’s ‘Hug-a-nurse’ campaign, on high-tech computers.
Jonny’s guitar tech, just wandered past me, with his ‘Politik’ guitar. It’s a quiet part of the set for him. He’s now disappeared back into the dark underworld of guitars beneath the stage. The band just rushed past me through the corridor, flanked by security, on their way back to the OK City stage. This road case i’m perched on, is shaking with the vibrations of the ‘Viva’ remix beat. I’d better get off it, before ‘Politik’ starts!
The local crew, are already congregating backstage, ready to transform the venue and remove all these cases. They are all signing in, one-by-one, with pen and paper, of course. There’s that ‘Politik’ drum beat.. I’m off back upstairs to the Oxfam booth, to check we have enough pens..
Two other pen and paper incidents I should mention. Someone made an amazing cheque donation to Oxfam tonight.. and Karen gave me a hand-written note on the corner of her Coldplay banner, to give to the band, to thank them for playing ’The Hardest Part’ for her.
After the show, I celebrated the night, by exploring OK City with ’Team Jenn’ from the Oxfam group. They did a great job organising the volunteers tonight. So it’s only right to celebrate. So there you have it. The only problem with blogging on a piece of paper first, is that it causes a delay. But if you’re happy to wait.. then that’s ‘OK’.

Hey, everybody long time reader first time poster on the site. Just wanted to share my story from an amazing weekend. It pales in comparison to the Karen/Kels, but is still pretty cool.
I go to school 3 hours from Kansas City but gladly made the drive on Thursday and missed my Friday classes to go to the KC show. I have two younger brothers who were playing there first college basketball games on Sat/ Sun. So I then drove to Topeka Saturday and Wichita on Sunday to watch them play. I was so blown away by the show on Thursday that I decided to drive from Wichita to Okla. City after my bros game to catch the Sunday night show. I didn't have a ticket but figured I could buy one from somebody. Long story short, I ended up center stage in the third row on the floor!!!! Call it karma or whatever you want ( I gave two tickets to the KC show to my bro and his gf cuz he couldn't afford them) but it was absolutely incredible!!!! I may try to load some pics later ( their poor quality cell phone pics) but, man, what an incredible weekend!!! I drove nearly 14 hours but caught two shows and 2 bball games. Totally worth it!!!!!
Oh yeah, I didn't know it at the time but I believe I saw Karen/Kels at the show. I was people watching as the show was being set up and saw them up front. I remember thinking it looked like a mother/daughter and thinking that was pretty cool...little did I know!!!

I remember thinking it looked like a mother/daughter and thinking that was pretty cool...little did I know!!!
welcome to the board Trevor!! :) nice story!

Wow Trevor 41, how did you snag those tickets? How much?
Man this Karen story is AMAZING! Truly shows how caring and compassionate all these coldplayers are!!
Cannot wait to hear you review (and by the way, even though I was considerably disappointed that they didn't play Green Eyes, I also LOVE the Hardest Part so thanks to Karen!!)

#42 and the Flaming Lips cover
It's pretty common for shows in more out of the way places to be the ones with the most enthusiastic crowds. Oklahoma then, has potential to be a right good night out. We arrive late in the day, as soundcheck has been bypassed yet again. At the top of the ramp that leads us into the bowels of the arena are three young ladies holding banners who giddily bounce and wave as the band's vehicles swing around the corner. This is obviously not the only time this has happened, however when we emerge some hours later after the show, they are still there and they are just as excitable. I really do hope that they saw the show in between. Not just because they clearly were wonderfully bonkers about the band, but because it was a particularly good night.
Being in the hometown of the Flaming Lips means a lot at a Coldplay gig. Not only are the band great friends with the Lips guys, but so too are some of the crew. Hoppy, who looks after Chris's guitars worked for them many years ago. So did keyboard tech Neill Lambert (also now infamous as Chris's spooky Halloween attacker). I pass Neill in the corridor just as Wayne Coyne is making his way into the arena. Somewhat fittingly, Neill is in the middle of building a robot out of some metal electrical casings he's rescued from the dumpster. Proof if it were needed that we're heading now onto the beautiful slippery slope into what is commonly referred to as tour madness. I can only imagine that by Christmas, there are going to be a lot of inane grins and wonderfully skewed mental states. In the meantime, Neill's as yet unamed creation has been given a job in the Production Office dispensing setlists. I'm not sure he's even seen the Talk video. Maybe it's just subconscious...

The show itself is most enjoyable. As predicted, the crowd goes berserk even from before the intro tape and they're clearly out for a good time. Never ones to shy away from joining in, the fellas are lifted into the high gears early on. Will particularly, seems to be attacking the kit like it's something personal. I wouldn't wanna be a snare drum in Oklahoma tonight...

When we get to the B-Stage, Chris introduces The Hardest Part with a line he's used before: "It's not the best Coldplay song, and it's not the worst Coldplay song". Tonight though, he clearly gives it some thought, before stopping the song a few bars in to declare that the worst Coldplay song "was one of our first ever songs, that was called Ode To Deoderant". And I thought Parachutes was an oldie! You'd need to be breaking both your arms and both your legs to get to hear that one again, I reckon...
Talking of rarities, Politik ends to make way for a one-off Flaming Lips cover in honour of tonight's guests.

(Huge thanks to Andy Bramley and the rest of the video dept for the footage!)
It only remains for the butterfly confetti to fall and it's pretty much all over. I remember doing a festival some years ago where The Flaming Lips were playing. I think I may still have some of the confetti in the back of my racks even now. It was an utterly joyous experience watching them play. I wonder what Wayne thought of the butterflies. I hope he liked 'em. I'm just hoping Chris doesn't decide that he wants to do the encores in a huge bubble so he can walk over the audience's heads from now on. How the hell would we get the piano in there...?

I was in attendance in the first few rows at this show, and am just now piecing together this incredible Karen/xxKels story. Oddly enough, I spoke to these 2 lovely ladies for quite a few moments this night, after saying `ello to Karen upon picking up on her accent(from my homeland). They were charming ladies, both and that xxKels made for a stunning view between myself and the stage ! ; )
Grand moment to hear Mr. Martin dedicating The Hardest Part to her!
Overall a solid, though better -than -usual performance of the predictable set list.
