Heyyy fellow Ohioans, I'll be coming up to Cleveland July 6th! My seats are SEC 5 Row PP seats 15-16 (isle seats so I can grab Chris and sing with him when he runs by :D)
Let me know if you wanna meet up or just holler if you're near by! I'm thinking about making a Coldplaying t-shirt for identification

I would've like to see them in the Summer, but I guess I'm glad I'm still getting to go.

I'm bumping this up since its getting closer to our show. I'm driving all the way from Chicago to see the boys again. I'm only missing my one Tuesday class to see them too (driving all the way back and going straight to class on Wed.)
I'm in Section 125, row 5! I was all I could manage with spending it all on the two Chicago shows =]
Anyone know of any nice, cheap hotels close to the arena? (I'm a college girl!)

there are quite a few hotels within a short walk to the q. in the past i've used priceline and stayed at the hyatt regency at the arcade. its a nice 3* that is a few blocks from the arena (going out of the arcade's "back" boor on euclid ave.) i've been able to get it for about $45 a night. but you should be able to get a 3* or 4* in downtown for under $70.
BetterBidding.com (http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showforum=129&/) has some good info in their Ohio topic.
see you all on the 21st!

Someone asked who the opening act is for the Cleveland show. Her name is Duffy, I had read. She is from Wales. She is going to be with them for quite a while I think?
I have never been to this arena before. Am from WV, & Columbus is about as far as I travel. Relatives there & whatnot.
Another person asked about hotels in the area. I chose the 1 right next door it says, called the Radisson Hotel Cleveland Gateway. The price might be too much for college students though, around $150. I don't know the area so I had to stick closeby.
I have listened to the guys for about 15 mos. now, & am just exited to be going! For me, Pittsburgh or Columbus would've been closer, but hey .. who cares how far I have to drive .. right???!! :guitarist::dance:
I have seen a whole lotta concerts in my days (am 54 :wink3:) .. but I don't think I've been this excited for 1 in a really long time. There's just something about the lads. They are FANTASTIC:sunny: ... still trying to figure out why my family doesn't see this :stunned:
Have a great & safe trip everybody. Take care & have fun .. from Sec 4 FF 7 & 8  .. Laurel

No, it’s not cool to like Coldplay, but so what?
Their latest album, “Viva La Vida,” is the band’s most adventurous set to date, and they’re chart-toppers in virtually every country on the planet. Plus, Chris Martin’s falsetto still makes us tingle. So suck it, critics! We’ll be standing on our seats singing along to “Clocks” and “Speed of Sound.”
Coldplay will perform at Quicken Loans Arena on October 21. Doors to the show open at 6 p.m.

Ticket Giveaway: Coldplay & Duffy Tonight at Q Arena!
The Cleveland Leader is proud to partner with Rock the Vote to offer Clevelanders the chance to win a pair of tickets to tonight's concert at the Quicken Loans Arena featuring British exports Coldplay and Duffy.
Duffy is a up-and-coming blue eyed soul singer from across the pond. Her debut album 'Rockferry' has won praise on both sides of the Atlantic. The 24 year old from Wales stormed the Adult Contemporary Charts with the single "Mercy". Her debut album 'Rockferry' debuted on the Billboard Charts at number 4 and her career looks like it can up from here.
Coldplay really needs no introduction. The band has had meteoric rise in popularity since their debut album "Parachutes" came out and hit single 'Yellow' dominated Alternative Radio. Since then, the band has become regarded as the U2 of their generation as albums "A Rush of Blood to the Head", "X&Y", and "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends" have cemented their claim to be regarded as rock royalty.
To enter the drawing, please provide the correct answer to the following question: What was the title of Duffy's debut EP? Please email the answer to contests@clevelandleader.com by 4:30 PM. The winner of the tickets will be contacted at 5 PM and tickets will be left at the Quicken Loans Arena box office where you will need a photo ID in order to claim your prize.

Just got back from the show! Amazing These are probably in the wrong order
Heres the setlist as far as I can remember
1. Life in Technicolor
2. Violet Hill
3. Clocks
4. In My Place
5. Speed of Sound
6. Chinese Sleep Chant (almost forgot about this one)
7. 42
8. Fix You
9. Cemetaries of London ( amazing I can't believe they played this!)
10. God Put A Smile on Your Face Techno Remix
11. Talk Techno Remix
12. Hardest Part (piano)
13. Postcards from far away
14. Viva La Vida
15. Lost
16. Strawberry Swing
17. The Scientist (acoustic)
18. Death Will Never Conquer (Acoustic)
19. Viva La Vida Remix Interlude
20. Politik
21. Lover's in Japan
22. Death and All His Friends
23. Yellow
24. The Escapist
There was some little classical piece that Chris played after Politik that was really quite interesting, I don't think it was Glass of Water, but it was only for a minute and a half
Corey07
22-10-2008, 05:19 AM
Highlights were the confetti in LOVERS IN JAPAN and Politik was by far one of the best songs they played! The stobes were amazing at the Q, the lighting effects, everything was perfect. Chris made a hilarious comment about how the band members were getting old, they needed to start investing in wigs like Cher (he said this with a towel on his head). He said he was just going to try it out for a bit
Corey07
22-10-2008, 05:22 AM
I wanted something new to be played! Chris made a comment that he was going to play a rare B-side that noone would ever have heard before, but then he broke out into an encore of Yellow!
The crowd didn't seem too energetic, I mean everyone was satisfied, but not everyone was ecstatic like me and my girlfiend were....
thanks a lot for the setlist and the comments about the concert :D

I saw Duffy this past Summer at Lollapalooza 2008 and it was enjoyable and I thought she sounded good. Tonight, her vocals were turned up pieceringly high and it ruined the whole thing and no one was getting in to it.
Coldplay was nothing short of wonderful. All the lights, lasers, moving lights, light & video projection balls, and confetti. The band all moved to the edge of the stage for technol remix renditions of God Put A Smile On Your Face into Talk, and while it was completely different than the original versions it sounded quite neat. Chris Martin stayed out on the side, edge of the stage and did The Hardest Part on the piano solo with the drummer. After Lost! the band went off stage, reappeared in the back of the crowd and played The Scientist acoustic, which was wonderful and Death Will Conquer with Will on vocals. After a remix of Viva La Vida played over the speakers and the band opened the encore in the pure dark with Politik, which was the highlight of the show for me. The driving piano and song is just amazing live and the red lights were perfect for it. They closed with Yellow, which was perfect for the crowd but not me. The Escapist played over the overhead in the dark, the set was over at 10:17 PM after almost an hour and forty minutes. Through out the set the backdrop banner changed three or four times, the little light balls constantly changed colors and designs, and the video footage on the screens and in the little balls were great and makes me hope for a DVD of this tour.

The crowd was great through the whole show, Chris talked the crowd quite a bit, and the band sounded good. I would have liked more songs from the first two albums because those are easily my favorites but I can't complain because the show was so good overall. We had pretty good seats off to the right of the stage, in the middle club level.

There's no escaping Joe the Plumber these days. Not even at a rock 'n' roll show.
Less than a week after you-know-who found himself at the center of the final presidential debate, the non-licensed tradesman from Holland, Ohio, was mentioned indirectly a couple of times when the British quartet Coldplay performed Tuesday night at The Q. "You live in the most important state . . . at the moment," frontman Chris Martin told concertgoers, referring to Ohio's pivotal role in the upcoming election. "You also have, according to the news, some of the best plumbers in the world," Martin couldn't resist adding.
The charismatic singer and his bandmates -- guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion (decked out in their finest psychedelic military regalia, to a man) -- didn't shy away from serious topics in their songs. "Violet Hill," "Cemeteries of London," the transcendent "42" (a soul-searcher in three movements) and other selections from Coldplay's latest album, "Viva La Vida," broached life-and-death matters. Yet these guys (all in their early 30s) managed to keep the mood not only light, but even uplifiting at times.
During "Lovers in Japan," thousands of Day-Glo paper butterflies fluttered down from the rafters. It made for a magical spectacle.
The concert originally had been scheduled for July. It was pushed back when Coldplay postponed the start of its North American tour because of unspecified production issues. Martin apologized for any inconvenience.
Better late than never, an eye-popping light show complemented the band's arena-rocking anthems and super-sized ballads. Martin & Co. often were backlit, content to be silhouettes while their fans got to bask in the bright lights instead.
Curtains hid lots of empty seats in the upper reaches of the venue, filled to only three-fourths capacity, tops. What the audience lacked in numbers, it made up for with unbridled enthusiasm. The sing-along at the end of "Fix You" was especially heartwarming.
"For a Tuesday night, you people are on incredible form," Martin remarked.
He wasn't too shabby himself. "The Hardest Part" showcased his versatile pipes, with low-register verses giving way to a breathtaking falsetto refrain. When he wasn't concentrating on playing guitar or piano, Martin cavorted on two runways jutting into the crowd.
The whole band relocated to a rear corner of the arena to deliver stripped-down renditions of "The Scientist" and "Death Will Never Conquer." Champion ably handled lead vocals on the latter song, while Martin tooted a harmonica.
Coldplay brought the 90-minute performance to a feel-good close by revisiting its 2000 breakthrough hit, "Yellow."
Despite the occasional Joe the Plumber joke, Martin avoided overt political commentary. Or maybe the impassioned chorus of "Politik" was his message to voters: "Open up your eyes!" he sang, over and over.
SET LIST: "Life in Technicolor," "Violet Hill," "Clocks," "In My Place," "Speed of Sound," "Cemeteries of London," "Chinese Sleep Chant," "42," "Fix You," "Strawberry Swing," "God Put a Smile upon Your Face/Let's Talk," "The Hardest Part," "Postcards from Far Away," "Viva La Vida," "Lost!," "The Scientist," "Death Will Never Conquer"
ENCORE: "Politik," "Lovers in Japan," "Death and All His Friends," "Yellow"

Concert Review: Coldplay Disappoints, Duffy Exhilarates
http://www.clevelandleader.com/files/coldplay-live.jpg
Coldplay, who many rock critics have tabbed as the next U2, headlined the the Quicken Loans Arena tonight and drew a crowd that I would estimate at about 17,000. The band that hails from Britain failed to answer the lingering questions that I had about about the band. Chris Martin and company were wise enough to bring along the next rising star in the music industry as Duffy thrilled as the opening act.
The problem that I see in Coldplay is too much show and not enough actual talent to back up their big act.. The band has some songs to thrill a crowd but aren't quite at the level that they seem to think they are at. Between the set of the excellent opening act Duffy was simply eyebrows raising. Coldplay seems to accept the fact that they don't know who they are despite being rock veterans. Playing songs ranging from rap to classical music before they took the stage made you wonder what to expect and, not surprisingly to me, failed to deliver on the supposed grandiose entrance.
While Mr Paltrow possesses good songwriting skills at times it didn't fulfill a full set that could entertain for an entire evening. The selection of songs tried mask the weak vocals by Martin by utilizing a wide assortment of t lighting effects which seemed to enthrall parts of the crowd but veterans of rock shows in attendance knew that there was something lacking in terms of quality in the bands performance. The band does not inspire passion from the crowd and simply seems to be a passing fad that will fade as soon as the music industry moves onto the next "in" thing.
While I can dismiss their live show, Coldplay is not afraid to employ a solid opening act. On their last tour, the band had one of the most underrated singer-songwriters in the last decade opening for them in Richard Ashcroft who shot to fame in the mid-90's with his band The Verve. This time around, the band is touring with neo-soul singer Duffy who truly lived up to hype that has surrounded her from her home of Wales. While her live sound has not been fine tuned to an Arena setting, Duffy truly has the making of an extraordinary live act. Her meek voice which introduced her songs was an amazing contrast to her strong vocals which wowed the crowd and probably made them wonder why she was supporting a band instead of headlining a show herself. Duffy has the makings of a superstar if she can handle the fame that surrounds it.

My wife and mom volunteered with me and our seats were in the press box near the back of the arena, we were literally about 10 or 15 rows back from where they did Scientist and Death Will Never Conquer. I took a picture on my phone, it turned out ok. The really sweet lady who also volunteered with us and sat with us went up to get a drink about 30 seconds before they appeared right below us and said they ran literally RIGHT past her on their way out!

your seat/position in the concert is determined by how much money you have, not how big of a fan you are!
so what is that? the richer, the bigger fan?
that's for all concerts, not just coldplay.

Um I was totally one of the people jumping up and down and screaming with my friend in our floor seats. The crowd definitely joined in with the "woah-oh-ohh" parts but the dancing was WEAK.
But the saddest part was that half the people around me weren't even singing the verses to some of the songs. Haha but it didn't matter cause I was yelling the words so I made up for the slackers...

Yea dude. I spent 250$ for one third row ticket and I was jumpin the whole time and screamin and people were lookkin at me like I was retarded or something. After three concerts within the first five rows, I have realized that a lot of people close to the stage aren't "real" fans. They just happen to have either good luck/good connections and they like the major radio hits. fu**s. Everyone that close should be jumpin so the crowd looks like a wave.

awesome! were they really good seats?
We had decent seats to start with (we bought them way back in May), and when I found out we were going to volunteer for Oxfam, we sold them. Pete (the Oxfam coordinator, who also writes the blogs) told us that the seats we would get would be the ones that empty up when they take the people from the higher seats and put them down front (AMAZING idea for all the stupid "i'm down on the floor and i'm not gonna sing or jump up and down" people). So we were in the 'press box' where everyone was sitting and me and my wife were COMPLETELY drained, but i've never clapped or sung so loud in my LIFE! But when they came to do the acoustic set about 10 or 15 rows right in front of us we were standing on our seats peaking over everyone (some jackasses I guess were messing with them cause we kept seeing a security guard holding some guy back and Chris said "are there problems man? no problems" and would look back and say "hey, what's up!")! All in all I kinda wish we would have kept our seats, but we wouldn't have gotten to be as close when they came up to us.
P.S. to any of you that were there and signed the Oxfam list, Thanks! :)

Ears were buzzing, adrenaline was pumping and vocal cords were strained at Tuesday's amazing Coldplay concert.
The concert was at the Q arena in Cleveland, which was the perfect venue for the concert.
First arriving at the Q, there appeared to be many empty seats.Shortly after Duffy finished, the audience trickled in.
Then, at roughly 9 p.m., "Life in Technicolor" started, and so did the Coldplay concert.
The stage was set with lots of lighting, a huge backdrop of their album cover, glowing balls hanging from the ceiling and a few hanging screens.
The backdrop changed with every song they played. Sometimes it had pictures playing, almost like a music video, other times there was just a logo.
The hanging glowing balls changed colors to match the songs, and also showed images of the band.
The concert felt like a music video.
The video screens they had showed the band, but in a way that made it not seem like you were looking at a video screen. The entire atmosphere made you feel like you were right there with the band, even if you were not.
Coldplay met and exceeded my expectations.
They opened with Life in Technicolor and then went to some of their older music off of A Rush of Blood to the Head, and also played some from X&Y. To end the show they played Death and All His Friends, and for an encore, Yellow. It was perfect, and the crowd went nuts.
Chris Martin is an absolutely amazing performer.
He has an insane amount of energy and ran around the stage the entire show. I've never seen anyone perform the way he did. He was jumping around, running around, playing guitar and never missing a note. At one point in the concert, the band even ran into the top section and played an acoustic version of The Scientist.
There is not one thing to change about this Coldplay performance. Their concert was amazing, and it will be in my top 10 for a long time.

New to this board. I took my five year old stepson to this show. He was fourth row aisle left in a yellow t-shirt (blond hair). I was hoping to find a pic anyone might have of him in front of the band. In the end I had him on my shoulders for about 10 minutes. It'd be great to find a cool photo with the band in the background so he has something other than our lame photos (they all came out blurry) to remember by.
Much appreciated.

I have been to plenty of concerts. Ive seen Dave Matthews Band, O.A.R., Counting Crows, Maroon 5, and some other bands that most people probably havent heard of that well. That being said...
This was far and away the best concert that I have ever been to...and with relative ease. The energy was astounding, the crowd was pumped, and they didnt hold anything back. Hearing The Hardest Part was something special to me because it was one of my favorite songs off of X&Y. They were really something to see. I was on the Floor in Section 3 (which is about 20 some rows back), but man was it great. I paid $100 for the ticket and I would have paid more. They are my favorite band and have been for sometime, but this is without bias. My particular highlights:
The butterfly confetti during Lovers in Japan, combined with the lights was the best thing I have ever seen at a concert. It is such a great and moving song so to have something special like that take place was truly something to see and I have quite a few pics of it on my phone.
Like I stated earlier, The Hardest Part was great and it is one of my favorite of their songs...BUT
My favorite song on every CD is Death & All His Friends. So when they came back from the second level and started it I was happy to the point at a concert that I have never been before. I actually like what is written about it in...I wanna say Rolling Stone...where the writer states "There have been stadiums built for less than the climax of Death & All His Friends." Couldnt agree more because it was awesome!
Politik is so good and powerful so it was sure nice to hear that. I like what, I believe Will, said about Politik during the VH1 Storytellers a few years back where he says about the timing was right aroun 9/11 and it is a song about personal belief and what is right to some is wrong to others. Very powerful song with a great climax.
Yes and Chinese Sleep Chant were also amazing to hear live. Not to say that I dont like the everything (because trust me my friends hated me by the end of the show. They are the people who like to hear the music and not scream it like I did. While I respect their ways, I do it a little different...by yelling at the top of my lungs.), but I just sang the whole concert louder suring certain songs. You can tell that they really felt the crowd because they kept talking about Ohio and saying it in their songs to keep us all entertained.
Great show and wouldnt have expected anything less from the best band on earth. Keep it coming Coldplay because the fans love you guys.

Hi!
Welcome here and thanks for your review!
Good to hear you had such a great time as well.
Can I ask you when you saw Maroon 5?
I've been to one of their concerts shortly after "Songs for Jane" came out.
That was 2004, they were "Newcomers" then...
I think I've been one of very few people at the concert who knew the lyrics of all of the songs...
So they only played for around 50 minutes, the crowd actually only knew "This love" and therefore I was a bit disappointed.
I know this is off-topic, but I'd love to know what your experience was like!
See you around!

Hey, thanks for the welcome. As for the Maroon 5 show, I saw them in this past August in Pittsburgh and again at the Beale St. Music Festival in Memphis a few years back. The show this past August was w/ Counting Crows and Sara Bareilles. It was a really good show, especially during Wake Up Call because they put some of the words up really large on the screen behind them as their backdrop and them like flashing and stuff. I have really liked them for a pretty long time. When I saw them in Memphis it was like 4 years ago before they got really big. Which, just to keep it a little off topic. the Beale St Music Festival is ridonkulous to say the least. When I was there it was like The Killers, Maroon 5, O.A.R., and a bunch of other really good bands. It is a good meter of who will probably be really popular in a short period of time. In any case, I really liked the show and I would love to see them again. The crowd got really into it and they were actually the headliner because they play after Counting Crows. I mean, its kinda obvious that the crowd would know the lyrics at this point because they have got really big you know? That being said:
The concert last Tuesday was the coolest concert Ive ever been to. So much energy and a bunch of great people jamming with a phenominal band. I cant wait for Prospekts March because the more Coldplay the better. Hope to see you around too!
