That post made my day, Chelsae!!
The music is sure to be great, and that's all that matters, like others have said, but this is my least favorite title so far. X&Y was mathematical and scientific, so I thought it suited Coldplay. With titles like Cemeteries Of London and Violet Hill, Viva La Vida just doesn't gel for me...but I'm repeating myself...and besides, who cares if I don't like it? We have an album, an release date, and possibly the single announced! YAY!:D:D:D

I'm not so sure on the album title, but more worried about the first single, just becasue I don't like numbers for song titles! Coldplay will put me right though! I instantly loved X&Y as the title of the last album, this one will take time to grow on me I suppose...
But all that really matters is the music, and thats going to be phenomenal!

AROBTTH as an album title did bring some 'CSI'-like thoughts to me...until I heard the song. Hahaha that changed everything.

Coldplay Gone Ricky Martin?
25821
Coldplay's Chris Martin has confirmed the title of their fourth album as 'Viva La Vida' and no, it's not after Ricky Martin's hip shakin' hit but after a painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
The name for the forthcoming album - containing rumoured tracks 'Lovers In Japan' and 'Strawberry Swing' - came about when the band's vocalist saw the phrase, which means 'Long Live Life' on a painting by the acclaimed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
As Chris explained to Rolling Stone, Kahlo died in 1954 after battling back problems and polio:
"She went through a lot of shit, of course and then she started a big painting in her house that said 'Viva la Vida'. I just loved the boldness of it."
Hitting back at the the obvious likeness to Ricky Martin's pop smash 'La Vida Loca' - in name at least - he added:
"I’ve been through this before, naming something or someone and everyone saying that 'That’s a terrible name', but then saying, 'Well, fuck you, that's what it's called, and I’ll be proved to be right eventually'."
Despite the somewhat dubious naming choice, any of Coldplay's fruits are most warmly welcomed and this one should fall from the tree on June 16.

I just think viva la vida is way too cheesy to use as a title - it sounds like something the cheeky girls would come up with, never mind Coldplay!
But anyway i still can't wait to hear some new material whatever it is.....

*gasp* Oh my God!! You are so right, Dejan!! This is the end of their careers, for sure. What's the point of even coming here anymore now, it's not like there will be anything of significance anytime soon, or the future! Why don't we all just LEAVE?!?

Yes, you've got it right. Maybe with this video it will be ever more clear. The video is taken from the day we celebrate our independence day. The president goes to a balcony at the National Palace and starts saying the names of the men who gave us our independence ("Viva (name of the guy)", and then the crowd yells back with a "Viva"; finally he says "Viva Mexico" and thats it. Obviously the president kind of overacts the screaming and yelling cus you know, he is supposed to be the man who leads the country and must show he is a 'strong' guy who can handle it as well, you know what i mean.
Despite all of the things Frida lived she even said "Viva La Vida", which considering the circumstances it was something like "shit happens, but life's still great", and that what I think Chris loved about that.
guys check the official website it seems that they dont know what name they are gonna put the album they have two options:
- viva la vida
or
- Death and all his friend

I can see they haven't chosen the name yet in their website. If at the end they decide to name it "Viva La Vida" I think that'll be a really good decision because of all it means!
Viva La Vida is, as hugo already said, "shit happens, but life's still great". It's the meaning of life! We have to enjoy our lives even if sometimes we've being through many difficulties. Because sometimes we think we can't continue living or that our lives make no sense, but that's not true, life is so fucking great and God doesn't give us anything we can't handle! We always can keep on trying, and if we think life is great despite the problems, thus, we can really say... Viva La Vida !!! (VIVA!)
I also love that title because I'm from Monterrey, Mexico and I'd be really proud that my favorite band name its new album taking into consideration something that is coming directly from my country.
But anyways, as some of you have said before, at the end the title is just the way the album will be known, but what is really important is the music it has on it!
Greetings!!!

that's a terrible title! i'm totally devastated... it's so cheesy and cliche! i'm very disappointed with this choice cause i was loving the title of the songs etc. it drastically changed all the image i had in mind about this album.
i know it's very personal, but for me it looks like chris is loosing all his sense of ridiculous!
frida's paitings are fantastic but... oh my god!

So... Prospekt told us that the album title might be different.
Death and All His Friends. Or Viva la Vida.
The first one sounds dark and the second one seems more like the opposit.

Say these two titles were people.
Would you rather hang out with Death And All His Friends, or Viva la Vida?
I, for one, would rather hang out with the last guy.
Okay, maybe that doesn't mean anything.
But I still like Viva la Vida more.
I'm tired of depressing Coldplay. You can be thoughtful and still be fun and kick ass.

Grit your teeth and bare this article:

Coldplay LP is La Vida Loco
Published: 19th March

Going loco... Chris Martin
EVEN CHRIS MARTIN admits he has a dodgy record when it comes to naming things. Kids APPLE and MOSES spring to mind. Now he’s gone and called the new COLDPLAY album Viva La Vida. And he’s not even bothered people will think the title is a tribute to snake-hipped, Latin pop merchant RICKY MARTIN.
Unsurprisingly, the influence comes from a much more high-brow source.
The Spanish phrase — which means “long live life” — was influenced by the late Mexican painter FRIDA KAHLO, one of MADONNA’s favourite artists.
Chris explained: “Frida went through a lot of s*** then she started a big painting in her house that said Viva La Vida. I just loved the boldness of it.”
But it is the echoes of Ricky’s cheesy breakthrough hit Livin’ La Vida Loca that are weighing heavy on the mind of the bookish frontman.
Chris conceded: “Everyone thinks it comes from Ricky Martin, which is fine. I have absolute respect.”
Coldplay album titles have always been slightly unconventional. The lads called their first collection Parachutes and their last CD was X&Y.
Terrible
And that’s before we get on to the names he conjured up for his kids with wife GWYNETH PALTROW.
In an interview with iconic rock mag Rolling Stone, he admitted: “I’ve been through this before, naming something or someone and everyone saying, ‘That’s a terrible name’, but then saying, ‘Well, f*** you, that’s what it’s called and I’ll be proved to be right eventually’.
"So when Viva La Vida came along I was kind of annoyed because I’m going to have to convince everybody of this — but it just felt right.”
The album is due out on June 16 and is reportedly a radical departure for the four-piece.
Guitarist JONNY BUCKLAND said: “We felt like the first three albums were a trilogy and we finished that, so we wanted to do something different.”
There has been talk of a Spanish flavour to the music, which would justify the title. And Chris added: “Whether or not it’s good, we started to use more colours.
“It’s impossible to please everybody and it took us a while to learn that. It’s just the freedom to say, ‘Everyone might not like this. We’re into it at the moment, so let’s just get it done’.”
As long as it doesn’t sound like Ricky Martin...

VERY interesting album title I'll say, but the appeal is not really the words itself, but the fact Coldplay have decided to use it. It just seems a little odd, and in turn, quite intriguing. I'm sure our guys know exactly what they're doing, they got away with X&Y afterall (lol).
But jokes aside, this 4th album has been loooooong anticipated so whatever they named it would've come as a surprise/shock etc to many people, particularly their fans who have been eyeing the updates for any clues as to what the title would be. It does, afterall, say a lot about the tone of the album as well as the direction the band have taken.
There's no changing what the title is now, so I say - Viva La Vida all!
Ahem, so can have the album now... please? :D

Too much emphasis on ricky martin...and there aren't very many "normal" album titles. I don't find X&Y and parachutes to be that strange(weird they didn't bring up AROBTTH).

I think..:
1. Parachutes: Nice
2. A Rush of Blood to the Head: Brilliant! My favorite album title!
3. X&Y: Short and sounds proffesional
4. Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends: :dizzy: Confused...
I like Viva La Vida... as celebration of life... it make sense, and in connection with the name of the albumīs songs I think itīs perfect... And we all have to wait the lyrics of the songs too in order to understand all the concept of the album... thats my very particular opinion... hehe
With respect to Vive La Vida Loca... it refers like you have to live a crazy life... it has no connection or sense with Viva La Vida or Long Live Life

You know...I never understood why people went around bashing his kids' names. That's so mean to the children. =/
It's one thing to talk about his album title choice, but you don't talk about kids like that.
Well you have a good point here... I think that the albumīs name reflects all the meaning and, specifically, the message that the artist try to send to all the people at the moment that he, she or they presents the final album to the world... at the end its an art work or master piece... when you talk about real "artist" I mean

Because the press don't care about who they hurt. If they want to bring someone down, call someone fat, slag off names, make up a story that you're have marriage problems based on one photo of you NOT walking down the street with a huge smile and a sign that says "YES, I'M STILL INTIMATE WITH MY OTHER HALF" then they will

what i'm gonna say it's not because my native language is spanish and because i'm from latin america... i'm being objective and trying to put on chris' mind,....
It doesn't matter what language you wanna use to just express something you're completely proud of presenting!... Even it's spanish its meaning (of VIVA LA VIDA) is totally the same if u wanna say it in italian, english, portuguese, chinese... what's important is to know its real meaning... that's a happiness expression, cheers for men and woman, for children, for all of us who are losing our target of living like, of enjoying what's REALLY important... LOVE, PEACE, HONESTY, admiring a child smile... ENJOYING ELEMENTS LIKE THE WATER IN THE SEA, THE WIND, THE FIRE... and OF course.. feeling the souls of the people...
RICKY MARTIN?...oh pleeeeaseee.. this is COLDPLAY... THEIR HIPS MOVEMENTS RELATED with their subliminal music ARE DIFFERENT;)...LOL...
