LOVE BRMC and has just bought Starsailor - love is here, because i saw it was on sale last week, and then went home and downloaded one song. loved it and bought it today! So grand! Anyone who have views on that?

i like them both but would say that, in my opinion, they're both bands which are much much better live, even though their albums are v. good. :) i saw brmc at the end of last year and hearing the start of "spread your love" live just made me :D

i LOVED their first album, but wasnt so sure on the second. I've seen them a few times- the first was when they were still unknown and I was at the barrier of the gig and James winked at me and sang to me and i was thinking *i love this band they're so cool* and then a couple of times after that i saw them at V Festival he was wearing these sunglasses  and looking like he was trying a bit to hard to be a rock star....and they were acting a little but like they were believing their own hype, then I wasnt so sure........ I only liked a couple of songs from the second album, but here's hoping for the third which i do think they are making as we speak!

Any song you care to choose from Starsailor, the album, is superior to the entire collected works of Starsailor the band. Buckley is turning in his grave because of this puddle of piss masquerading as music.

I'm very disappointed with the new album. I love their first two albums, but the new one just isn't in the same class to me. I love the first two songs on it, and a couple of the others, but for me it's not as consistent from start to finish as their first two albums.

By the way, check out my Ep:

Well I think that On The Outside is a logical evolution of their music, but yes u know the gap between love is here and tracks like Counterfeit life is quite amazing !
I was a big fan of song like Fidelity or Poor misguided fool, ans strange thing my two favorite tracks are Counterfeit life and Faith Hope Love, mighty and dark isn't it ?
There's a lot of great songs on this new record : This time (2nd single, sounds like 4 to the floor, and is also the 9th track lol), In My Blood, and of course In The Crossfire (I'm very happy this song with be on the radios of France soon) !

When X & Y was released, everyone banged on about where the progression was.

Well, if you want to see progression from a bands first record to their third, go and buy the quite outstanding album from Starsailor "On The Outside".

Such a brave, raw and passionate record. Utterly different to "Love Is Here". Quite simply the album of the year.

Starsailor – On The Outside – Hits Stores August 22nd!!

Any Starsailor fans here? This is one of my favorite bands and they are finally coming out with a new album on August 22nd – I am so excited! I have their first album Love is Here and I cannot wait for this one!! I heard this album is already out in the UK – has anyone heard it yet? I would love to hear what you think! It’s called On The Outside.

They also just released a digital EP called In The Crossfire (6/27) with three of the album tracks: “In the Crossfire”, “Counterfeit Life”, and “Jeremiah”. I cannot wait to get it!
I just heard they have planned a U.S. tour for September – has anyone gotten tickets yet?

YOU could be forgiven for assuming Starsailor had sunk without trace as swashbuckling pirates like Pete Docherty over-run the ports that lily-livered acts like Keane and Coldplay had once called home.

Despite winning widespread respect with songs like Good Souls, Alcoholic, Fever and the hauntingly loveable Lullaby - the band never quite made it onto the open waters of mass-market appeal. But their voyage is far from over.

Having toured the world, and recently stood in for Amy Winehouse as support to the Rolling Stones, Starsailor are even now putting the finishing touches to their fourth studio album.

And lead singer James Walsh (pictured, centre) is still hopeful that the band will be more than a footnote in the story of north west music.

"I'd love us to be bigger," admits Chorley-raised James during a break from recording what is still known to the band as 'Album Number Four'.

"But it will be hard to assess whether we're going in the right direction until almost after the event," he adds philosophically.

"I was always envious of bands like Oasis and the Stone Roses, who you'd watch a documentary about and some journalist or celebrity would be waxing lyrical on how important this band was for the late '80s or the late '90s, and that's something I'd like for us - to be mentioned in the Top 50 albums of the noughties.

"This might be our fourth album, but everything is still going swimmingly in the studio. The only thing we fall out about is football.

"I don't know if there's a secret, I just think it's important when you're forming a band that you are doing it with mates, or at least people who you get on with.

"You must have a shared goal as well. We're all committed to the band and we'd do anything to ensure that we achieve the ultimate goal of surviving for the next 20 years, and hopefully, having an impact on British music."

Recording contract

Album Number Four finds Starsailor seven years into the recording contract which picked the band up playing various north west towns and introduced them to the world.

Walsh temporarily decamped to Belfast, but recently moved to Finchley, London, with his wife, Lisa, and five-year-old daughter, Niamh, for the sake of the band.

"With the album coming out, we wanted to make a real go of it and it's a lot easier with me in the same country," he adds.

There isn't a particular theme to the new material, Walsh says, but married life and international politics are some of the key ingredients among the 16 songs which have been recorded to date.

"There was a long gruelling trip to American which influenced one of the songs, about what's going on politically over there, how scary it is, the amount of power the government has over how you speak and the way you act," he adds. "It made me thankful to be a British citizen.

"As for married life, we've been doing it for thousands and thousands of years, but you can get such a lot of material from it. It's an adventure. There are some amazing times, some boring times, some sad times and some great times. Any emotion you can mention, that's what marriage is."

Soul

Walsh adds: "A lot of people who listen to it tell us that there's a lot of soul to the new album. We've tried to write classic songs, work the sounds around them, instead of experimenting too much.

"There's quite a heavy Van Morrison and soul influence to the album and we are all big Neil Young and Gram Parsons fans as well so we're quite excited for people to hear it."

They'll get their chance during a mini-tour of relative backwaters which Starsailor have signed up to support the Fairtrade organisation, which campaigns on behalf of producers in the developing world.

"We're helping in a small way and wanted to go around the minor venues," Walsh adds. "Then, when the album is finished in the spring, we'll do a victory lap of major venues like the Apollo or the Academy, which are our old stomping grounds."

Speaking of which, Starsailor have journeyed a long way since they first cast off into a sea of soul-filled music with their record deal in 2000.

Now 27, Walsh says there were a few frustrating months when he wasn't sure whether he should stay with the band or get a proper job.

"It was almost at the last minute that we got signed," he adds. "I was due to start on a computer course - when I went into the Job Centre and told the women 'I've got a job as a musician' she said, 'Oh, what are the hours?' "

Starsailor play the Parr Hall in Warrington on Friday, October 5 as part of their autumn tour to promote the Fairtrade mark. Call 0161 832 1111 to check availability. The band will be back on the road for a tour of major venues after the release of their fourth album in the spring.

Starsailor Are Back!

Apologies that this is the first contact via our mailing list for a few months.
We have posted (or at least James has) regularly on the messageboard, but due to the much publicised takeover of our record company, accessing this database proved difficult.

Anyway, things have settled down now and we have a new record label (Virgin) and a whole new team of people working with us to promote our fourth record. This will be called 'All The Plans' and is likely to be released at the beginning of March 2009. It will be preceded by a single, 'Tell Me It's Not Over,' to be released towards the end of February 2009.

We're hoping this is the first of many regular mails. As a thanks for your patience, click here (http://emi.emreact.com/go.asp?/bEMU001/mLORGX9/qLFR7X9/uN5Z0QX1/xO6J7X9/cutf%2D8)to see James performing 'Hurts Too Much' Its an acoustic version of one of the album tracks performed earlier this year at the Heavenly social. Enjoy and we'll speak soon.

James, Stel, Ben and Baz.

Having learnt my lessons from Travis, I managed not to get lost on the way to the south coast today, reversed into the parking spot and managed to use a couple back-roads to avoid the majority of the traffic on coming out of the city following the "out of city" signs.

But overall Starsailor tonight were fucking awesome :D
