They were pretty good on Jools Holland.
I might get a hold of their EP's soon and give them a good listen to see what they are about.

I also love Shooting Star, Just Abuse Me and Never Even Told Me Her Name :) I just think they are very talented and deserve to be huge.

LOL i don't know :embarassed:
Btw i forgot to mention this earlier but i heard they're working on their debut album atm, it's due out around June
Air Traffic are an English indie rock band from Bournemouth. The band's name originates from when they used to practice next to a runway at Hurn Airport, where air traffic control signals could be picked up on their amplifiers[1]. Their music features heavy use of piano, and they have been described by NME to be like "Supergrass covering Little Richard
Their first single, a double-a side of "Just Abuse Me" and "Charlotte", was released in July 2006 through Label Fandango, the independent record label of live music promotion company Club Fandango. 500 copies of the single were produced, all of which sold out within a few days of the release date. [3] Following this, the band were signed to record producer David Kosten's branch of EMI, Tiny Consumer (Kosten has previously produced records for Natalie Imbruglia and Skin of Skunk Anansie). They were noticed by Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq and began to receive some mainstream success, with their song "Never Even Told Me Her Name" receiving airplay on Radio 1 and Kerrang! Radio.
They spent much of August and September 2006 in a recording studio in Monmouth, Wales. Four of the tracks from these sessions were released as an EP on 30th October, which included the single "Never Even Told Me Her Name", "Get In Line", an acoustic version of "Time Goes By", and a demo of "Shooting Star", a song which would later also be released. A music video was produced for "Never Even Told Me Her Name" by the company type2error, who created videos for the likes of Paul Weller, Captain, Hope of the States and The Rakes.
On November 24, 2006 the band were given their first real television exposure when they appeared on Later With Jools Holland alongside such acts as The Killers and Lucinda Williams. They preformed both songs from their first release, "Charlotte" and "Just Abuse Me".
Recently the band re-released "Charlotte" on March 26, 2007. This marked the band's first move into the charts, with the song reaching #33 in the UK Singles Chart. The band plan to release their new single, "Shooting Star", on June 18, 2007. The song, prior to its release, has already met with moderate acclaim; it is Marsha Shandur's (Xfm) and Steve Lamacq's (6 Music) "Single Of The Week" for June 4-10, as well as Vernon Kay's "Weekend Anthem" for June 9-10 on Radio 1. The song is also a former #1 on XFM's daily Music:Response chart.
Air Traffic's current members are:
* Chris Wall – Vocals, Piano, Guitar
* David Jordan – Drums
* Jim Maddock – Bass
* Tom Pritchard – Guitar
The Album is released next monday in the UK.

Fractured Life
Rating: 5/5
Release date: 2nd July
Label: Tiny Consumer
Well here it is. Air Traffic's eagerly awaited debut album is an absolutely brilliant collection of beautifully emotional piano ballads and stomping rock songs.
There aren't enough superlatives in the world to describe this band, who spend the whole of 'Fractured Life' sounding like they're on top of the world and can do no wrong.
From the introduction to 'Just Abuse Me' - which even features a jazzed-up piano solo - to the crowd singalong finale of 'Your Fractured Life', Air Traffic know exactly what makes an accessible pop song.
The ballads are plentiful here, but there's depth. Instead of feeling like they were trotted out just to fill space you instead get the feeling like lead singer Chris Wall feels it every time you listen. It's standing room only on the emotions front, with each song being packed full.
In a world of guitar led bands, it's a refreshing difference to see one attempting something new. Instead of disbanding guitars completely (ala Keane), they instead keep them for the background - and it's Wall's piano that shines through. In the aforementioned 'Just Abuse Me' we're greeted with a Jools Holland style solo, and in 'Empty Space' we're laden with Muse-esque effects which provide what can only be described as a starry backdrop.
When Wall does leave his piano, the result is songs such as 'Charlotte' - currently the band's only foray into the top 40. Likewise, 'Get In Line' sees the band on all guitars for another stomping rock song. With 'No More Running Away' we also see the rest of the band hitting drums behind the lead piano, before ditching them for an epic final chorus.
The Coldplay comparisons are inevitable, but with this first album Air Traffic have taken only the very best of Chris Martin's touring band and turned it into something very special indeed. Full marks.

Oooooops, didn't see this.
Meh.
I was surprised that the NME give it a 6/10. I thought they didn't like that kind of stuff (apart from Coldplay).
The NME is a joke nowadays.
I was surprised at the NME's review as well, I was expecting them to rip it to pieces like they did with a couple of the track reviews and give the album a 2.

I like them a lot. :)
Fractured Life is one of the best albums of the year so far, imo. That is their first album, right? No More Running Away is my favorite song. I love it! :nice:
I recommend this band to a friend and when he asked what they sound like, I said Coldplay particularly on the piano. So I agree with you about this.
Hope you have fun there and they perform well. If possible, please take some pics and post them here. :)

It is their first album yeah.
I will get some photos and have a good time thanks.
A few of my mates who I mentioned them to now have them in their car cd players.
No more running away is their next single I think and it might just kick start their popularity.
More people should know about this band and I agree it is the best album this year

I'd like to buy their cd too if I could find one here, haha..
What was their single before No More Running Away? How was it going on the chart there?
I hope they would gain popularity soon. They really are worth to hear.
No more running away is a great song :)
They released "Shooting Star" back in June, which got to number 30 on the UK Singles chart

Good Good :)
It's a shame their album wasn't up for the mercury prize.

I don't know much about mercury prize. I mean what factors will make an album up for a nomination knowing that it is not divided into genres / categories but all in one.
Seeing the nominees this year I also thought that their album deserve a nomination.
The main factor is that the record company pays the mercury board a nominal amount, and for the album to be released within a set time limit. (ie 21st June 06 to 20th June 07)

I'm sorry to hear that. :( Though I think haven't sold enough tickets is quite reasonable to postpone a show. A bad thing, but understandable imo.
Does anyone here happen to have b-sides from their singles (if there any)?
You have to pay a set amount to put your album forward to the long-list which the judges vote down a short-list of 12.
I might do a massive Air Traffic upload this weekend

I got there album a few months back. They're pretty fucking awesome. Definitely going to be big.
They're definitely going with the Coldplay template, but there's just enough of a swagger there that they dont come off completely Coldplay-ish in my estimation.
But yeah, people on this thread better watch out for Air Traffic, I don't know how many records it'll take for them to be huge, but it's gonna happen.

I'm a big fan of this band. I think Chris Wall, the lead singer, has a really good voice and the music is pretty awesome. They remind me a bit of early Coldplay and even Muse on some of their songs. Fave songs include No More Running Away, Shooting Star, Charlotte and Left Out In The Rain.
Shooting Star IS AMAZING and Charlotte is pretty cool as well!

We had one of these before, I think.
Anyways, Air Traffic = WIN.
The album is astonishing, even after a year.
However, I think that one of the b-sides to Charlotte, a track called An End To All Our Problems, is their best song. It is just unbelievable.
Hurry up with the new album already! :D

I just love Air Traffic. Cant wait to see them again. And I just loved this pic of them. its great they're not huge yet, because it means I can still go to tiny clubs like the Knitting Factory and see them (from this year at some point - a few months ago I believe). and a whole lot more pics at http://www.flickr.com/photos/xneverwherex/sets/72157605274165131/

Sometimes it's better that a band doesn't make it huge
Mainly as it's a better chance to seeing them live in a smaller venue

They just played the Knitting Factory (NYC) May 24, 2008. They were also here in October/November of 2007 and played at the Canal Room (CMJ show). So theyve been to this city a few times already (not sure how much of a US tour they did). That picture up above is from their show at The Knitting Factory.
