When he does do a tour... I will take someone I fancy, or keep asking women until one of them give up..................

It will change their life forever ...... any woman I know well most women that I have played him too... have been into him since...

It doesn't look like it.
I might be able to see him perform in Denver or Dallas. Hopefully he will showcase some of his newer tunes, if he has any.
It's definitely worth a roadtrip, though.

Wow.. I can barely believe he's back. I heard some djs talking about Damien on the radio earlier and I just couldn't believe it. 9 Crimes sounds amazing slowed down like that.. especially with both Lisa and Damien singing, I've only heard it with just Damien. Really beautiful.. can't wait for November.

The album tracklisting looks great as well. It'll be nice to finally hear studio recordings of old favs like Me, My Yoke and I and Rootless Tree. Amazing.

i'm extremely hopeful for this album having heard 9 crimes; thought that after his success and re-releases of cannonball etc all popped up and mainstream he might sell out on this record, but 9 crimes couldn't be any further from this.

possibly the best thing he has done yet, imo. trying to listen to the whole album but for some reason it wont work for me. Oh well. Nx

i like the new album, but at times it does seem a bit formulaic, verse, chorus, same verse repeated just louder, chorus, verse repeated louder/with strings etc etc etc. that having said, it does work quite well. i prefer the first though i think. accidental babies is amazing though.

27-11-2006, 07:03 PM
well, I think everyone must agree that this album is far behind the first one... that is no masterpiece...

what I disagree is from some reviews really exagerating in how bad the album is...

I've only heard a couple of songs by him... 9 crimes and The Blowers Daughter (i listened to this one 'cos it appears in the Garden State film).

I'm currently trying to play and sing on the piano 9 crimes, I began yesterday... and i think it's quite easy 'cos the only part i don't know how to do is the chorus, but the rest it's great! :)

anyway, i'm not really into his songs... could you recommend me some?

I saw Damien Rice perform live at the Concert For Care in London last week and he was fantastic! The Blowers Daughter sounded great and then he did Cannonball, just him and his guitar and there was silence in the crowd. It was absolutely beautiful.

I really like his music and I believe he's one of the best songwriters out there right now. It's just a shame it's taking him so long to get out a new album... :(
I got to see him twice in 2007 and both times were absolutely great! Sadly, I never got the chance to see him together with Lisa Hannigan as she quit the band exactly at the day of the first gig I went to in Munich... I think it even started later and everybody was wondering why... And the audience was even more puzzled when Lisa was nowhere to be seen and the whole atmosphere on stage was rather awkward... It's a real pity because I think the music the two of them made was something very special. :\

But yes, the movie left a strong memory trace for me as well.
So many people couldn't understand the characters... but I loved about the movie that not everything is either black or white and you (or at least I) can understand each character's decisions in a way.

I was at the Philadelphia Museum of Art today, and I saw this guy standing next to me, looking at the same painting I was looking at. He looked EXACTLY like someone to me, but I just couldn't place him right then and there. He probably thought I was insane, because I just kept staring at him the entire time I was at that exhibit, trying to place him.

I'm home now, and I JUST thought of it.

He looked exactly like Damien. :P

His site's said he's been working on some new things for some time now... so... we should be getting something soon. :cheesy:

Well you won't be seeing him with Lisa Hannigan or Tommo anytime soon. What a shame. :(

I know. When I met Lisa I really wanted to ask her why, but I didnt' want to be nosy. :P

Me and my mate met her after a gig just after it happened and she asked her if they were ever going to work together again and it just got really awkward and she said no. What and idiot of a mate. :laugh3:

Then when we went to see Damien Rice next, he called her up live onstage, held the phone towards us and had the crowd shout 'hello', which was left on her voicemail. :D

Any ideas about why Lisa and Damien won't work together again?

Well the statement they released was that their creative partbership had run its course. However it has been said that both Lisa and Tommo were finding Damien increasingly difficult to work with and that they argued frequently and just called it quits.

I like Lisa's solo work though, it's easy listening, her voice is beautiful, i've seen her live twice and it's been amazing and she's very, very easy on the eye (she's stunning). So Viva Lisa! :D

Oh yeah I get what you mean. But it's not like he kicked them away, no?

I should really start listening to her solo stuff then

I think they just decided enough was enough and left instead of constantly arguing. The fact he called her up during a gig would suggest there are no hard feelings between the two.

Yeah her album is called 'Sea Sew' and if you want to see if you'll like it you should lookup 'I Don't Know' on Youtube or something. It's a great tune! :D

Yeah probably. Well I am glad they might still be in good terms :) Cause a year ago or so, I had read somewhere that Damien had kicked her out because she was 'cutting his inspiration' and i stopped listening to him for a little while, until I got to know that it wasn't what really happened.

Wow, wow, wow. I loved it :D I shouldn't have expected less from her, this was stunning! I'll definately look the album up :D Thanks :nice:

I honestly didn't like 'Sea Sew' that much.

This is just my opinion, but I think she's much better with Damien. She can't really write songs by herself.

^I've really only heard "Lille" and I love it. But I sampled the rest of the album, and it didn't catch me right away. May have to try it again. I do love her voice, though.

BUT, her voice is especially lovely juxtaposed against Damien's.

This! For some reason, she just sounds so much better to me when she's with Damien.

Instrument players! You know what's the most fun EVER to play on guitar!?!?

Eskimo. :cheesy: It's a gorgeous song, too. Been listening to it like crazy.

I love playing Eskimo on the guitar, in fact i'm playing it right now (in between typing). The capo is high up the fret-board which is odd but makes it more interesting to play. :D

Her stuff is different from Damien's, more upbeat and quirky. The album takes a few listens but I think it's great she's doing her own thing.

Shall I check out Damien Rice?

^^You should!! He's wonderful. His music is so relaxing, passionate and emotional.

If you like hard grunge rock punk stuff you won't like him. But if you like beautiful, strong lyrics with a bohemian style, you'll love Damien. He's amazing.

I would have to say 'Delicate' is my favourite Damien Rice song. First song of his I ever heard and it's just amazing. What's everyone else's favourite?

Ooh, that's a tough question. I love every single one so dearly.

But I'd have to say "Elephant". Such a beautiful song, and the bridge is so powerful. So much passion.
