A new music festival catering for up to 90,000 people over three days is being planned for Swansea's Singleton Park. Promoters say established international and Welsh artists will play indie, rock and dance music on multiple stages at the event next July.

They say the aim is to develop Fflam - Welsh for flame - into Wales' answer to Scotland's T in the Park. The event has been welcomed by Swansea Council which said it would put the city on the "music festival map". The festival, which will run from 13 - 15 July, is being promoted by Straight Music Ltd, which has worked on UK tours for the likes of Eminem and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Director John Curd said: "Our aim is to give people the best possible line-up of music across the three days. "Our aim is that Fflam will become to Wales what T in the Park is to Scotland."

The first T in the Park event was held in 1994 at Strathclyde Country Park and it has attracted some of the music world's biggest names such as REM, Coldplay and The Who.

He said three unsigned Welsh bands would be given the chance to perform at Fflam - one per night as the opening act on the main stage.

Camping facilities will be provided at a nearby site with late-night entertainments and a shuttle service to the festival.

Tickets are set to go on sale in December with a capacity of up to 30,000 on each day.

Singleton already plays host to a number of outdoor concerts ranging from the dance music event Escape in the Park to the BBC's Proms in the Park, although some people living nearby have complained in the past about noise, litter and other disturbance.

Council leader Chris Holley said: "We are anticipating a wonderful line-up on stage which will attract festival-goers from across Wales and Britain, which will have spin-offs for the local economy.

"This will put Swansea firmly on the music festival map and will raise our profile across Britain."

Who wants to bet that either the stereophonics or the manic street preachers (or the super furry animals) headline it?

Sounds like a good festival IMO.

And Cerys Matthews is bound to be there, too.;)

Cancelled now.

Can't Wales hold anything without it getting cancelled?
