Back to studio for new single ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GALLAGHER LETS BROTHER IN ON PLANS
OASIS rocker NOEL GALLAGHER has plans to work on a new single written by his brother LIAM, but hasn't told him yet.
Noel, the oldest of the rock siblings, knows it will take some persuasion to get Liam back into the recording studio after a year spent on the road, but thinks the song is too good not to release as a stand-alone single.
He says, "Liam's got this tune that's left over from the sessions called THE BOY WITH THE BLUES, which he got in a right f**king a**e about and it could've been on the record.
"And I would like to - because we've got a month off in January, we've got all of January off - I'd like to get back into the studio to add a bit more to it.
"I haven't spoke to Liam about this. This'll be the first he hears of it when he reads it now and he'll be like, 'What the f**k are you on about?'
"I'd like to put it out as a one-off single, 'cos if we spend January recording it and mixing it, it could be out for the summer.
"It's got a chant at the end. There's not much of a chorus to speak of, which is why it didn't go on the album.
"DAVE SARDY (producer) was like, 'It needs a chorus,' but it's got this chant at the end where the words go, 'Come all together/if we come all together/We'll come all together for you."'

Noel's rant of the year
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's the best of what pop and rock stars had to say to yours truly in 2005:
2005 RANT OF THE YEAR
Noel Gallagher of Oasis wins the prize for best quote as he summed up Live 8 to the Sun's Jane Stevenson:
"But I don't like the way that somebody suddenly decides that all the bands in England are going to fookin' play and everybody jumps to attention.
"No, it's the general thing that rock stars should be doing something to fookin' sort this out.
"The fate of the African continent does not fookin' depend on a load of fookin' musicians in Hyde Park singing fookin' shit songs to kids. And they're saying they're fookin' raising awareness for it.
"If you're not aware of it by now, you can be aware of it for the half-hour. But I bet you that 99% of that audience will walk out while they're still eating McDonald's on the way home and won't realize that by actually standing in McDonald's you're perpetuating poverty in some way.
"I think, more effective is taking out some of the fookin' government leaders in Africa and starting again, really. A crook is a crook right? Saddam Hussein sat on a load of oil, right? Look at (Zimbabwe president Robert) Mugabe, sat on a load of shit. So he gets to perpetuate evil against his people.
"Team America -- the American army -- should be in Africa, shouldn't they? All the little puppets going around taking out African leaders. That would be my solution to it. Well, I mean if they really want to do good for the world. That's what I'd do.
"I don't believe pop music, or Annie Lennox singing Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) is going to do anybody any favours, apart from Annie Lennox."

Noel on Brits , Liam's shorts and recording plans
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE BLAST NOEL
OBVIOUSLY no one's told Noel Gallagher it's the season of goodwill to ALL men - even those on holiday!
The Oasis rocker thinks Brits abroad are a "disgrace". He says: "OK, the British like to travel, but they don't have to carry a Union Jack with them. I'm embarrassed when I see Brits in Australia, they act so... English. "They have their tops off, wear flip-flops and shout at the tops of their voices."
Then he turned his rant to Liam's habit of wearing shorts on stage: "A man his age - it's f******g out of order!"
Not much chance of Noel mellowing in 2006, then.

Oasis plan EP recording
Noel Gallagher has revealed to the Daily Star that Oasis plan to spend January in the studio recording material for a new EP with a view to a summer release. Noel explained, “If we spend January recording and mixing it, it could be out for the summer”, he also added that brother Liam was unaware of his plans.
Oasis are also nearing the end of their contract with Sony records which could mean a greatest hits record in 2006 should they fail to record a new studio album.

Oasis reveal Spiritual influence
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oasis guitarist Noel Gallager claims the band are set to record a new song inspired by influential space-rockers Spiritualized.
Gallagher claims that 'The Boy With The Blues', which was penned by his brother Liam, is reminiscent of Jason Pierce's cult favourites and is likely to be the lead track on a new Oasis EP.
In fact, Gallagher is so excited by the song, which was considered too obscure to appear on the band's last album 'Don't Believe The Truth', that he wants the band to give up some of their holiday time in January to go into the studio and record it.
Speaking to the NME he said: "It's a bit like Spiritualized. It's driven by a piano and acoustic guitars."
He added: "It's got a chant at the end. There's not much of a chorus to speak of which is why it didn't go on the album."
The proposed EP could be released next summer.

David Grohl: " I love Oasis"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Foo Fighter praises Mancs after Noise And Confusion
Dave Grohl has paid tribute to Oasis after sharing at stage with them earlier in the month.
Foo Fighters joined the Manchester band at Noise And Confusion at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on December 10, and their frontman had nothing but praise for the Gallaghers.
"I love Oasis. There's no way that you can't love them because they make such excellent fucking music," Grohl told NME.COM. "There are really very few bands that make it that difficult to hate them just by being so fucking good. I know in interviews they come over like touchy bastards or whatever but you can sit down with them in a bar and have a couple of drinks and you will have the night of your life.
Grohl added: "I get on with anybody, but those guys are great. The last time I saw Noel he was walking through Covent Garden and he just tapped me on the shoulder and was like 'Alright, mate'. He was happy because he'd just got out of an interview. Their music is fucking good and their songs are fucking contagious. I just have a lot of respect for them."

Gallagher brothers fall out over who fronts Oasis at the Awards
THOSE feuding Gallagher brothers have locked horns yet again - this time over who gets to sing at the 2006 Brit Awards.
With less than six weeks to go to the hottest event in the musicbiz calendar, Noel and Liam have had one of their legendary bust-ups.
Although Oasis have agreed to perform at the star-studded event at London's Earls Court on February 15, neither brother wants to let the other hog the spotlight.
Our music industry mole tells us: "It's hilarious. They're both really keen to perform but they're at each others' throats over who gets to sing.
"Noel is insisting on singing whatever song they choose to perform and then Liam kicked off because he said he doesn't want to stand at the back of the stage while Noel steals the limelight."
At least one thing they are agreed on is a performance with the Modfather Paul Weller.
"Oasis are in discussions to play with Paul Weller," continues our source. "He's receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Brits and the idea is they all jam together."
Let's hope the Gallaghers' hissy fit doesn't ruin what promises to be the biggest night in the history of the Brits. Madonna is rumoured to be opening the show, which will also feature Coldplay live. And Take That, who set out on a sell-out reunion tour this spring, are in line to present a gong.

Oasis reveal more EP info
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oasis have revealed plans to release an EP in the summer.
The lead track is likely to be the Liam-penned 'The Boy With The Blues'.
The band plan to take most of 2006 off after a tour in support of 'Don't Believe The Truth', and plan to mark the event with the release of the EP.
"Liam's got this tune that's left over from the sessions called 'The Boy With The Blues', which he got in a right fucking arse about and it could've been on the record," Noel told NME.COM." And I would like to - because we've got a month off in January, we've GOT ALL of January off- I'd like to go back into the studio to add a bit more to it."
He added: "I'd like to put it out as a one-off single, 'cos if we spend January recording and mixing it, it could be out for the summer."
Noel described the track as "catchy as fuck" and "a bit like Spiritualized."
The guitarist went on to say: "There's not much of a chorus to speak of, which is why it didn't go on the album. [Producer] Dave Sardy was like, 'It needs a chorus,' but it's got this change at the end where the words go: 'Come all together/If we come all together/We'll come all together for you'.
"The lyrics alone sound like it's 'Come Together' but it doesn't sound anything like that. But it's a bit like Spiritualized, y'know, when they do that gospel thing. The bulk of the song is only about three minutes long but the outro could go on forever, really."
However, Noel admitted he hadn't spoken to Liam about going back into the studio.
"I haven't spoken to Liam about this. This'll be the first he hears of it when he reads it now and he'll be like, 'What the fuck are you on about?'. I'd like to put it out as a one-off single, 'cos if we spend January recording and mixing it, it could be out for the summer."

Coachella Festival documentary review
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Outtakes)
......No matter how big this film becomes - and, frankly, it should be playing on an IMAX screen or at the Cineramadome immediately - I just knew that I'd never get another chance to see it in such a pristine environment again. Plus, I needed perspective. Those of you who have been to even a single day of any Coachella are as apt to have the same reaction that those of us who have been to every single day of all six Coachella fests have almost involuntarily. Initially, you"re simply awed, wowed at how perfectly the film captures the sights and sounds and the feel of Coachella. You see the giant Tesla coil go off in the night, or you journey through the 3D-glasses tunnel, or you notice the fatigued and dehydrated taking refuge from the sun under one of the bleachers set up in front of the second stage ... and all of your memories, all of your excitement comes flooding back at you.
Never mind how great the performances are, and many of them are something to behold. Both times I watched Coachella I noticed myself gasping when a split-screen trick shifts the audience's attention from a suddenly smiling Liam Gallagher of Oasis to the unassuming but breathtaking entrance of a pregnant Bjork for "All Is Full of Love." And during my first viewing I realized I was tearing up in my right eye during Radiohead's delirious rendition of "Planet Telex.".....
....As much as this will satisfy most faithful Coachella-goers, it's ultimately designed to show the world what they"ve been missing, not to re-create every great moment that ever occurred. It's about complementing several amazing full-length performances with documentary footage and interview segments that illustrate not just the glory and tranquility and euphoria of the festival but the cultural and socio-political importance of it as well.
(One of the best bits in it is a cross-cut dialogue, so to speak, between outspoken activist-rapper Saul Williams, who doesn"t believe in biting one's tongue for the sake of pleasing entertainment, and Oasis" Noel Gallagher, who is convinced rock stars should keep their opinions to themselves and that change-the-world music only had a chance in the "60s. Each makes a good argument.)....

Hey I know this is a little late, but I just bought Don't Believe the Truth and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. What a fantastic album! Love Like a Bomb is my favorite song on the album and in my opinion the best. My only problem is I feel like they could've done so much more with Let There Be Love which is a great song, but they could've added more to it. However, what a great album.

Oasis, Coldplay and Ian Brown for Spike Island ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Three day event due for May...
Chris Martin reaching for the stars Oasis, Coldplay and Ian Brown could feature on the bill of a new music festival at Spike Island which is due to take place after the local council gave the go ahead.
Halton Council’s executive board have given its approval for a three day event due to take place in May.
According to widnesworld.co.uk Cllr Rob Polhill said: "This event is set to be the biggest concert here in ten years and it is appropriate that it is taking place at Spike Island, where the Stone Roses played their famous concert."
A free show involving local bands will kick off the festival on the Saturday and a source has informed Gigwise that organisers have approached former Roses front man Brown plus Oasis and Coldplay as possible headliners for a rock extravaganza on the Sunday.
David Millar, director of promoters Surprisingly Good Events, said: "The festival will be taking place before the other major concerts such as the Reading Festival so that bands can still play both."

Arctic Monkeys outselling Oasis' debut album
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Arctic Monkeys' "Whatever You Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" is set to become the fastest selling debut album in UK rock history, according to reports.
The record is apparently selling at levels last seen more than ten years ago, for the first Oasis LP "Definitely Maybe".
Music chain HMV reports the album could sell around 200,000 copies in the first week alone, if pre-order figures prove accurate.
The predictions confirm suggestions that the Sheffield newcomers are generating more interest than any other new band since the emergence of the Gallagher brothers.
Gennaro Castaldo, for HMV, commented: "We might be entering the Chinese Year of the Dog, but as far as the Music Industry is concerned 2006 is very much the 'Year of the Monkey'.
"We haven't seen this level of excitement for a new artist since the Britpop-heralding arrival of Oasis more than 10 years ago."
The Arctic Monkeys are expected to go to Number One with their second single, "Sun Goes Down", on Sunday.

To be honest, I`d usually be pissed at something like this, but, Oasis have had this record for what? 12 years, and now that a band has come along that truly deserve it, for the first time since Oasis IMO, I suppose it could be the right time for them to pass down the torch so to speak, and we all know Oasis (or at least Noel) like the band or they wouldn`t have them supporting them in Toronto.
Good luck to them I say, I`ll be out buying their album on Monday, but the`ve got a long long way to go before they can be considered anywhere near as good as Oasis in my book, but they are on the right tracks.

Arctic Monkeys learnt guitar off Oasis chord books
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arctic Monkeys have revealed that they learnt to play guitar through Oasis chord books and the James Bond theme tune.
Frontman Alex Turner says that he only got an acoustic guitar back in the summer of 2001 and could only play two chords.
That Christmas he got an electric guitar and starting practising with Jamie Cook (Cookie).
He told the Star: “Cookie could play the James Bond theme but I could never get him interested in being in a band at the time.
“Then he got Oasis chord books and learned them, but only chords. None of us were good enough to do solos but I got into it.
“I got James Bond sorted, then wanted to move on and that.”
Showing his young age, speaking about the albums that influenced him when he was younger, Alex said: “‘Be Here Now’ was a big record, but we weren’t old enough for the first two Oasis albums.”

Oasis snag 5 NME award nominations
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE Gallagher family will be celebrating after Oasis bagged five nominations for this year's NME Awards.
But newcomers the Arctic Monkeys could steal the show after grabbing four nominations - despite the fact that the band's debut album is only released this week.
The Kaiser Chiefs, from Leeds, will be vying for five awards - Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Album, Best Track and Best Video - with bad boys Oasis.
The band, which started out recording in drummer Nick Hodgson's bedroom in 2003, are the only act to receive six nominations in the 50-year history of the awards.
Their sixth NME nomination is for Best Music DVD, for the track Enjoyment.
The awards are also good news for Liam and Noel Gallagher following Oasis's 2005 comeback album Don't Believe The Truth.
Brits
The band are said to be snubbing the Brits after receiving only two nominations for next month's awards.
The Kaiser Chiefs, who until recently were involved in a feud with Oasis, got five Brit nominations.
Arctic Monkeys
Sheffield-band the Arctic Monkeys have become a phenomenon after rocketing to success with I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor last year.
The band are nominated for four awards - Best British Band, Best New Band, Best Live Band and Best Track.
Franz Ferdinand are up for five awards - British Band, Live Band, Album, Track and Video, following the release of their second album You Could Have It So Much Better.
The Best New Band category will be a battle between British bands Arctic Monkeys, Editors, The Magic Numbers, and Maximo Park, and quirky Americans We Are Scientists.
Maximo Park
This year's Godlike Genius Award goes to Ian Brown, the former frontman of the Stone Roses, and a driving force behind the original Manchester movement.
Kaiser Chiefs' drummer Hodgson said: "Obviously we're very pleased. It's great to be up for the Best Album and Best Live Band awards. I hope people vote for us because we've never won anything we've been nominated for before."
NME associate editor Dan Silver said: "This year's ShockWaves NME Awards nominations reflect what has been an exceptional 12 months for rock music.
"When the Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party performed at last year's ceremony, they were relative unknowns; this year both will return as conquering heroes.
"And with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Maximo Park and We Are Scientists all showing strongly, that cycle looks set to continue in 2006."

Liam joins Richard Ashcroft on stage
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Electric Ballroom, London
WHEN Richard Ashcroft joined Chris Martin on stage during Live8, the Coldplay frontman hailed him as ‘the best singer in the world’.
His soaring rendition of 90s anthem Bittersweet Symphony was an undisputed highlight and reminded everyone why The Verve were one of the most important bands of that decade.
Now going solo, the singer is still producing equally anthemic songs, many of which he belted out during his magnificent performance at London’s Electric Ballroom last night.
Strutting on stage to the Oasis classic Cast No Shadow – a song pal Noel Gallagher wrote about him – Richard Ashcroft embodies all that is iconic about Britpop.
He has the trademark swagger, the shaggy haircut, the indie-rock clothes and that all-important voice.
Launching straight into sublime new tracks Music Is Power and Keys To The World, the singer proved his songwriting hasn’t become complacent.
Unsurprisingly, classic Verve hits like History, Sonnet and Lucky Man got the biggest cheers.
And a guest appearance from Liam Gallagher during Drugs Don’t Work received rapturous applause.
The Oasis star came to Ashcroft’s rescue when he couldn’t remember the order of the song and had to stop/start the performance three times.
Other highlights included awesome renditions of Ashcroft’s solo hits A Song For The Lovers, Check The Meaning and his soaring new single Break The Night With Colour.
With a back catalogue of hits that includes corkers like Drugs Don’t Work and Bittersweet Symphony, Richard Ashcroft is under no pressure.
He could sell-out venues across the country based on nostalgia alone.
But as his fantastic new album and electric live show proves, he won’t need to rely on that for a while yet.

Noel's latest take on Liam and babies
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Noel Gallagher has gone on another rant where his targets are children and his little brother.
Speaking to a Norwegian newspaper, Noel said of his bruv: "Liam is not a good person. No one is funnier than him, but he's evil.
"When he walks into a room everything freezes."
He then shifted attention to kids saying that he can?t stand ankle biters.
The father of five year old Anais, blathered: ?They're fucking idiots...they're small, noisy, smelly, small, devil brats. They take too much time and they cry all the time," reports The Sun.
He also claims that people turn boring once they have children, saying: "Many people become so boring when they get kids, they seem to want to take over the house you live in.
"You have to be quiet when the babies are asleep... fuck that! It's my house and I am the boss in my house."

No plans for EP in 2006 after all
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Noel Gallagher speaking to Musiklandet (out takes)
Noel: I never think in terms of marketing and strategies for Oasis, after this tour which will go into March I'm going for a vacation away from music and all that until the sun stops shining. Then we'll see when I'll start writing songs again.
Noel: Of course I have periods in my life when I don't write songs. I always write music but can take long breaks in my lyric writing. I don't think I've written a single lyric in over a year because we didn't use the studio time that we were going to use, I guess those songs will wait for the next album.
Q: Was it the EP "Boy With The Blues" that you were planning to record during the holidays?
Noel: Yeah, it was the ambition but it didn't end up that way.
Q: When can we expext a new album?
Noel: Like I said earlier, there's probably not gonna be any recording done during 2006. After this tour I'm going to rest, spend some time with my family, drink a ot of tea and smoke a lot of cigarettes.
Noel: Honestly, and this is not what you want to hear, I don't have any long reaching plans for Oasis right now. Later this evening I'm going to eat because i'm starving right now and then I'm looking forward to the gig tonight and then we have a day off on Friday, those are my plans for Oasis right now......

Liam's fitness craze causing troubles
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LIAM GALLAGHER has been driving his posh neighbours potty – pounding along on his new running machine.
The thundering racket caused by the OASIS frontman’s fitness regime has left residents in London’s trendy Primrose Hill up in arms.
Liam has been sweating out the lager and fighting the flab by putting in the miles on his treadmill.
But neighbours are going barmy because the heavyweight hellraiser sounds more like a stampeding herd of buffalo than a lean middle-distance runner.
And following complaints to the local council he could be served with a noise abatement order if he keeps shaking the (Wonder)walls.
One resident living underneath Liam’s flat told me the star’s jogging even caused her light bulbs to fall out. She said: “Since Liam moved in our lives have been made hell.
“Just before Christmas he bought himself the machine and the noise has been unbearable. When he gets on it the walls start to shake.
“You can hear everything. There is the constant thud of him jogging. Sometimes it has got so bad that bulbs have fallen out of my chandelier.”
The neighbour has become so fed up she has written to Camden Council to demand action. She added: “I have tried to talk to Liam but nothing has happened.
“When he moved in I thought it might be noisy with him playing the guitar.
“I never thought I would have to listen to him keeping fit on a running machine.
“It is not very rock and roll but it is making our lives a nightmare all the same.
“He spends hours each week on the machine, and it’s so loud you can barely hear yourself think.”
Liam treated himself to the machine after he and fiancée NICOLE APPLETON moved in last August with son Gene.
The family decided to quit their last pad — a £2million townhouse in Hampstead — after becoming sick of hardcore fans of the band camping outside their front door day and night.

OASIS have landed a £1million US ad deal — despite blasting White Stripes for taking advertisers’ cash.
Their single All Around The World is being used by telecoms firm AT&T.
It comes after Noel Gallagher said Stripes star Jack White had “sold out” by writing a Coca-Cola jingle.
Noel said: “I don’t believe in adverts. Jack White ceases to be in the club.”
Oasis refused to comment last night.

"Of course we're better than Oasis'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They're the best band in Britain - far better than Oasis. That's how Kaiser Chiefs' Ricky Wilson feels about his band.
In fact, the singer admits he's so impressed with himself these days, he gets starstruck just looking in the mirror.
"It's true," Ricky jokes.
"I wakeup in the morning, start shaking and think: 'Oh, my God. I can't believe I'm brushing Ricky Wilson's teeth!'
And there will be plenty of shaking going on at the Brit Awards next week, too.
Not only are the Kaisers up for five awards, they'll also perform in front of the acts they've grownup idolising. And right now, just the thought of meeting the se stars is giving Ricky the jitters.
"I'll have a heart attack at the Brits because it'll be wall-to-wall celebs," he admits.
"I do quite like the feeling of shaking when you're talking to them but I know it'll be awful, too."
One star he may bump into on the night is Paul Weller, though Ricky was far from impressed by the ageing Mod father's attack on Sting, Queen, U2 and other winners of the Brits lifetime achievement award.
"Paul's a bit of an old fuddy-duddy for slagging those people off," says Ricky.
"I think if you haven't got anything nice to say...
"You shouldn't slag people off just because you don't like their music, when you don't even know them or when you'll bump into them next."
Still, Ricky, 27, wouldn't mind meeting Weller, who'll be at the Brits picking up his own lifetime achievement gong.
"I'd definitely still be starstruck if I met Paul. His music is great."
One band Ricky won't be seeing is Oasis - much to his disappointment.
"It's daft that Oasis aren't coming," he says. I like Liam Gallagher. He always says something clever and funny. But he's not the sort of bloke I'd go down the pub with. Whenever I say anything, he disagrees."
Liam would no doubt disagree with Ricky's contention that the Kaisers are the better band.
Ricky boasts: "Yes, I still think we're the best band in the world. Of course we're better than Oasis. I don't want to come across as big-headed - Oasis are great - but I wouldn't be in a band if it wasn't the best."

To say that Coldplay is popular now because of Oasis is like saying Rock and Roll would not exist without Elvis and the Beatles. Of course Coldplay is what it is because of Oasis, but keep in mind that its not like Coldplay rode in on the coattails of Oasis either. Oasis has done nothing more than influence Coldplay, and to be honest Oasis is also the reason for music that currently sucks now, because everyone puts a capo on their guitars and plays Em, C, G, D, and A's because of songs like Wonderwall. And don't get me wrong, Oasis didn't just play these chords, in fact, Oasis is very talented, probably the most talented band of the nineties, but current musicians have take this philosophy of simplicity and conformity, the is no original music outside of bands like Coldplay, the White Stripes, possibly Ben Harper, and a couple other bands........Coldplay is totally different than this, they combine different tunings and totally different music ideas as well as broader, larger than life lyrics.....Both Oasis and Coldplay are original though in what they come up with....Who is better? Well, currently Oasis is more proven, especially considering the success of their newer albums and the fact that Liam and Noel are getting along again...But I really think in another 5 years, Coldplay will be more proven, because Coldplay doesn't do drugs, they don't fuss like 2 brothers, and as long as they don't get too cocky, why aren't they better than Oasis? But just to cap it off, Oasis is definately the best band right now in the past 15 years, and the most important (but like I said, I don't know if that is a good thing), but come on, Coldplay will be just as good if not better the way they are headed right now.

but i disagree about the shite of the current bands beeing down to oasis.

Noel gives thumbs up for new Kasabian LP
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kasabian have revealed that they are taking a more organic approach with their second album and as of yet it’s “ugly.”
Leicester’s finest have ditched sampled beats and looped drums that were the trademark of their eponymous debut, but album is roughly cut at the moment.
Frontman Tom Meighan explains: “What we’ve done is become more real. It’s not about the sampled beats anymore, it’s all about real drums.
“But don’t worry, the album’s still really fucking ugly. Sometimes even I’m upset by its ugliness.”
He continued to The Star: “It’s a proper beast of a record and I can’t wait to get it out there.
“But to be honest… the whole album just picks you up and tears through you.
“Noel Gallagher’s been in the studio a couple of times for a listen and given it the thumbs up, so you know it must be as good as I’m saying.”

Gem on touring and recording
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guitarist Gem Archer spared some time for a brief phone interview recently from Melbourne, Australia.
“Liam said it was one of the Top 5 shows we’ve played. Ever! It was great man, really great. There are certain places in the world where the reception is really great like Glasgow and Melbourne’s like that,” said Gem with much enthusiasm.
As noted during this world tour, the setlists have been all about new Oasis material. Well, it took the band close to three years to come out with a new album, and there is no reason to hide behind the old hits. With tunes like Lyla, Turn Up The Sun, A Bell Will Ring, The Importance of Being Idle, Mucky Fingers and more from Don’t Believe The Truth playing a bigger prominence at recent concert sets, Oasis has proven it is more than capable of mixing the rocked up new material with the classics on this tour.
To date, the Oasis tour has gone without a hitch. Remember the regular instances of Noel Gallagher quitting in the middle of a tour, the band accident in the United States in 2002 and Liam’s bust-up in Germany in 2003? No such incidents have plagued the band so far. Left with a month, Oasis plans to tour hard before heading into the studio to do another record.
Gem, who joined Oasis in 2000 after the recording Standing On The Shoulder of Giants, noted: “Liam wants to go to the studio now. It’s one of those things, you know. We’ve got six albums worth of material but we’re loving it, loving what we do as a band; touring and then it’s back to the studio to record more songs.”
Even though the Gallagher brothers are the only original members of the band now, all the current bandmates play a role when it comes to making music, including bassist Andy Bell.
“The way we make music is that everybody writes. Either we do a demo together or I do a demo with Noel or Andy will do one in Sweden (it’s where he lives). For this album, producer Dave Sardy picked the songs out and it was a good batch of songs.”
For a first time Oasis songwriting credit, Gem provided the standout A Bell Will Ring on the album.
It also helps that Noel has got his own studio filled with vintage gear whenever they want to record a track or demo.
“When we do a demo, it’s more like a first take and it’s not like a usual demo. For the guitar solo in The Meaning of Soul, it was just one take. When it comes to recording, we do it really quick. A song can take a day and we can record five songs in a week and have a break after that,” revealed the 38-year-old.
Gem used a Fender Esquire plugged straight to a Vox AC30 for the record and said that the Fender is his favourite axe.
“Noel loves his Gibson ES335 in the studio but live, it’s a different story.”

Seoul Press Conference
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gem Archer, center, and Liam Gallagher, right, join Noel Gallagher of Oasis at a press conference in Seoul on Tuesday. Andy Bell, sick with a cold, was absent from the photo session but performed at the concert.
For Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher, it’s either one way or the other.
It can be ``fabulous,’’_ what he describes himself and his playing _ or, in reference to a specific musician, he may take a more critical tone.
As for his first stay in Seoul, his comments were positive.
Gallagher arrived not expecting to see much of the place.
``But last night out _ it was nice,’’the Brit told at an intimate meeting with the local press yesterday hours before Oasis’ first-ever show here.
``It’s great. It’s really great to be in a country you’ve never been before,’’ he added.
British rock group Oasis is paying local fans a long overdue visit, their stop over in the peninsula made to stage the Seoul leg of their world tour.
Oasis played a set of 18 songs including ``Lyla,’’ ``Let There Be Love’’and more off the group’s most recent album ``Don’t Believe the Truth.’’before a sell-out crowd at the Olympic Hall yesterday evening.
How anxious were Koreans fans to see him?
With the best seats in the house gone within a week of the opening of box offices and left over sold out clean by early February leaving concert promoters no choice but to put up an additional 100 seats for sale on Feb. 15.
Gallagher said he doesn’t like to get involved in anything other than writing songs, which is why it took so long for his band to make its way to South Korea.
Oasis was formed in 1992 when Noel joined a group started up by brother Liam with his fellow schoolmates Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan and Tony McCaroll on the condition he be the leader and sole song writer.
Their first full-fledged recording, 1994’s ``Definitely Maybe,’’ shot straight up to number one in the U.K. chart upon entering. It also went down in British pop history as the fastest-selling debut ever.
The success of the band’s next recording effort ``(What's the Story) Morning Glory?'' in the American pop scene propelled the band into the international spotlight.
However, their own reputation is not all that’s come out of their success. Oasis is credited to have kicked off the 1990s British Invasion, having paved the way for other U.K. rock acts like Radiohead and Blur into the international music scene,
When asked of his take on newer groups from the U.K. like Coldplay, he flat out denied feeling threatened in any way.
``Oasis is not Coldplay as is Coldplay not Oasis. The music we make are completely different,’’ said Gallagher but didn’t hesitate to add that Coldplay is one of the most successful bands to come out of the U.K.
``Chris (of Coldplay) is actually a good friend,’’ he said.
While the band’s popularity and public’s demand for the group rose, so did tension between group members. The current line-up _ Noel, Liam, Andy Bell and Gem Archer _ is different from its original, with the exception of the two Gallaghers even though that the brothers are known to have frequent run-ins with each other.
And this may explain why Noel sat alone yesterday at the press conference while Liam met with local cable networks.
``Liam doesn’t particularly like talking,’’ he said.
Oasis made a strong come back with ``Don’t Believe the Truth’’ in June, 2005. The album sold over 40 million copies worldwide and proved that Oasis was still together.
Oasis leaves today to make two more stops in Asia before going on to the Americas to wrap up their world tour in Mexico City on March 31.
``As of the 32nd (of May), we’ll be on a very long holiday,’’ he said.

Bangkok 100 Festival Review
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quite simply, the festival punters came, they saw and they had a truly rocking good time last weekend in Bangkok.
For two glorious days, revellers from across the region who attended the inaugural Bangkok 100 Rock Festival – touted as the biggest such festival in South-East Asia – were treated to a thrilling rock festival experience that came tantalisingly close to being “the real deal”.
While it was not quite on the epic scale as Glastonbury (in England) or Big Day Out (Australia), the Bangkok 100 Rock fest definitely has the potential to develop into something as vital and exciting, something like a Roskilde, Coachella or a Benicàssim festival for the region.
All said, it is a very good thing indeed for local music lovers who have been starved of such happenings.
Held at Lakeside Muangthong Thani, an expansive carpark site situated about a 30-minute drive from the Bangkok city centre, the festival boasted a bill that read like a who’s who of British indie rock.
Oasis’ frontman Liam Gallagher (right) in the thick of the swaggering rock action.
On the first day last Saturday, Britpop giants Oasis headlined a bill that also included Scottish art rockers Franz Ferdinand, ex-Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown and Belgian experimentalist outfit Deus. It was some feat pulling together such an indie treat. Day two saw art-school punks the Futureheads and Mercury Prize-nominated quartet Maximo Park sharing the bill with indie heavy hitters Snow Patrol and Placebo. Not too bad either.
On both days, the line up of intentional acts were augmented by popular local Thai groups like Modern Dog, Ebola, Flure, Body Slam and the rather interestingly named Big Ass.
For some unknown reason, local promoters have tended to underestimate the pulling power of British indie rock bands like Oasis and Franz Ferdinand, despite their continued success in Britain and the United States. But Bangkok 100 Rock proved that not only can these guys pull a bumper festival crowd but also that they could do it with much style, invention and panache.
Certainly bands don’t some any bigger, brasher and more exciting than durable Mancunian superstars Oasis. The band showed that they could attract a huge crowd almost anywhere in the world by pulling nearly 25,000 excitable punters to their Saturday night headline slot. All this on a night when Liverpool was entertaining arch rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup.
For both nights, an intoxicating sense of bonhomie and camaraderie was palpable in the air as indie fans congregated in Bangkok to witness one of the most awesome bills put together in a South-East Asian music festival. Indeed there were plenty of indie fans from Malaysia who made the long trip up to Bangkok to check out the bands.
Although there were some teething problems for the organisers (Riverman, Matching Entertainment and Pernod Ricard), which is understandable as it was the first time they had attempted to stage an event of this magnitude, the festival was generally very well organised. Logistical support from the Thai government was a big plus.
For the average music fan, it was a pleasure to attend the fest considering the festival minders and police were friendly ... and more importantly, the portable toilets were relatively clean and the festival site spotless. Malaysian festival organisers should be taking notes here and the fact that Thai policemen were happy to pose for pictures with inebriated foreign music fans was hospitality at its best.
Without doubt, any minor quibbles were all forgotten when the bands took to the stage. Over the course of two days, there were many highlights and it’s rather difficult to isolate them. Certainly day one of the fest belonged to Oasis and Franz Ferdinand – judging by the frenzied reception received by both.
Franz Ferdinand’s main man Alex Kapranos (right) and drummer Paul Thomson thrilling the crowd. – Photos courtesy of The Nation / Asia News Network
Oasis lived up to their billing as one of the best rock ’n’ roll bands on the planet by swaggering on stage and blowing the crowd away with a brilliant set mainly comprising tracks from their new album Don’t Believe the Truth.
Frontman Liam Gallagher, the epitome of rock star cool, was in good form. Dressed in a blue Adidas tracksuit top, he was in fine voice and capped off the night in thrilling rock star fashion as he leapt into the crowd during a rousing version of The Who’s classic My Generation.
On that kind of form, the younger Gallagher proved that he was indeed one of the best singers to come out from Britain. Anyone disputing this should have been there to hear the band’s version of Rock and Roll Star, dedicated on the night to Ian Brown.
Before Oasis took the stage, Franz Ferdinand wowed the crowd with a set that resembled adrenaline punk rock of the highest order. Franz Ferdinand wanted to write songs to make people dance and last Saturday that was precisely what they did.
With the sizzling energy of the Buzzcocks and a set that drew from both hit albums, Franz Ferdinand underlined the fact that it has arrived as a contender for the big stage – and the Bangkok crowd went bananas.
Ian Brown, the former Stone Roses frontman also deserves a special mention just for being the most charismatic rocker at the festival. Certainly, he must be the only man who can pull off wearing a bright pink Adidas tracksuit. While his set was rough and ready at best, watching Brown perform the Stone Roses classic She Bangs the Drums in front of 25,000 felt like a genuine festival moment.
After the highs of Saturday night, thanks to Oasis and Franz Ferdinand’s excellent performances, Sunday’s bill of bands had their work cut out. But down to the potency of their melodic and heartfelt tunes, Irish/ Scottish quartet Snow Patrol managed to entertain the crowd with a set comprising songs from their excellent million-selling album Final Straw along with new songs from their forthcoming new album Eyes Open.
Headliners Placebo worked hard to get the crowd going but as much as Brian Molko tore into a nearly indie metal-sounding set, the night really belonged to Snow Patrol and their singer Gary Lightbody who sang beautifully throughout with soul and emotion.

Liam's foul football blast
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"At times the England players seem to play like women. Beckham and others, they're gay boys"
Liam Gallagher is reportedly up to his old wildman antics again, this time labelling the England football team a bunch of "women".
In an astonishing outburst ahead of Oasis' South American tour, the singer is alleged to have said England's finest had no chance of winning the World Cup.
He said: "I'm not one of those people who are that patriotic when it comes to the England team.
"I think that if you play direct football and deserve to win, you win. At times the England players seem to play like women."
The Manchester City fan is no stranger to controversy and his rants on a number of subjects from Elvis to drugs have landed him in hot water in the past.
Gallagher also criticised U2 and the Rolling Stones, who recently played in front of a million people in Rio.
He claimed: "Oasis might not be the biggest band in the world but we're the best band in the world.
"I'm the best singer in the world and the best singer has to be in the best band.
"They're the biggest bands in the world, without doubt. The Stones are big. They fill stadiums and they're in tune with the times. I respect them but their songs are a pile of crap.
"As for U2, I don't understand what they're doing. They're rock stars - for me, they don't say a lot. They don't seem like normal people."
Criticising the current state of British rock, he added: "I don't think the new bands are making good music. It's like fast-food music.
"You open a song and say, 'Yes, I think that's good,' but the albums are not good albums.
"I don't wish them bad luck but they're not as good as Oasis."
Oasis play tonight in Buenos Aires, Argentina, then next week in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
Gallagher went on: "What I most like doing is singing. But I expect one or two of my songs to be included on each album we launch in the future."
In an interview with Brazilian daily Folha de Sao Paolo, he said the well-publicised rows between him and older brother Noel were a thing of the past.
He added: "Me and my brother respect each other more than we used to. It's different from when we launched the band, when we didn't have kids and had nothing to lose."

What's the story, Liam?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He says Don't Believe the Truth, but Liam Gallagher says the truth is, he and brother Noel are no longer the feuding siblings they used to be. Have Oasis really reached a new calm?
If any band name seems at odds with reality, it is arguably Oasis, given the calm-shattering behaviour of the two bickering main men - the Gallagher brothers Noel and Liam.
But Liam says in a recent phone interview from London that he has mellowed and that, gasp, he loves his older, 38-year-old sibling.
"Ah, you know, we're brothers. I love him. If anyone ever said a bad word about him, they'd get their ears pulled," says the 33 year old who, despite this liberal use of swear words in the interview, sounds relaxed and is polite.
"We don't go around holding hands and kissing each other like most brothers in bands - we don't fuck around."
Their concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium tonight has seen 90% of the 10,000 tickets sold. Tickets are priced from $68 to $160.
The new Oasis of calm, if true, is certainly a marked change from their heyday in the 1990s when the Manchester outfit made headlines for fighting, drinking and spectacular kiss-and-make-up sessions between the Gallagher brothers.
The group was then part of the Britpop phenomenon that included bands like Blur, Pulp and Suede.
The band formed in 1991 when Liam joined a group called Rain.
A year later, seeing his brother perform, Noel proclaimed the band 'utter shit' and offered to take over, provided he could lead its direction from then on.
Thanks to the critically acclaimed debut album Definitely Maybe and its 18 million selling follow up (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, Oasis have become part of modern rock history.
Their third album Be Here Now became the fastest selling album in Britain, with almost 500,000 copies sold on the first day alone.
While newer outfits like Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party and Kaiser Chiefs have pooper up since, Oasis still hold their own, with their last album Don't Believe the Truth selling 2.5million copies worldwide, including 10,000 copies here.
All in, they have sold an estimated 50 million copies of their eight albums so far.
The current Oasis line-up includes rhythm guitarist Gem Archer, 39, bassist Andy Bell, 35, and drummer Zak Starkey, 40, son of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr.
Oasis, which cancelled a 2002 date in Singapore after the Oct 12 bomb blasts in Bali that year, was in Bangkok last Saturday to perform at a rock festival.
They shared the bill with Scottish band Franz Ferdinand, who had flown in after their Singapore gig. Liam, by the way, had slammed Franz in the press before, comparing them to 1980s group Right Said Fred of the "I'm Too Sexy" fame.
Singaporean musician Nick Chan, 25, of Astreal and Muon, who caught the Bangkok Rock festival, was unimpressed with Oasis' performance.
"They have aged like vinegar rather than wine," says the guitarist and music producer. He adds that at one time, he could relate to their music, but that their "pub rock anthems have not really changed or evolved".
But Adrian Wee, 30, founder of the successful indie night event Poptart, which takes place once a month at Home Club at The Riversidewalk, is still a fan.
"I still think they are an important band for what they achieved in the 1990s. Along with Blur, they were one of the key bands in the Britpop invasion."
He attended an Oasis concert in 1998 in Melbourne, Australia, and plays hits like Roll With It at Poptart.
Will Oasis raise their game tonight to please music critics? The concert organiser, Lushington Entertainments, has spent over $1 million to bring them in, and is certainly hoping they will in their 90 minute set.
Not that criticism will bother Liam. The father of three children says: "The kids who buy our records, they like the songs, they come to the concerts. That’s who I care about."
There was a three-year break in between the last album Heathen Chemistry and DBTT last year. What were you doing in that period?
Well, there wasn't really any break, you know. We were writing the record and demo-ing stuff. That took about a year, I suppose. Then we decided to record it; we did that a few times.
We didn’t have much time to sit at home, we were pretty much in the studio all the time.
I would like to say I wouldn’t like to take that much time ever again, it’s just boring. I would like to get a new record out towards the end of the year.
You want to kick butt, basically?
Fucking right, man. I didn’t join a band to cruise, I joined a band to make music
You’ve been touring for quite awhile now. Do you hate seeing Noel on an almost daily basis? Is there anything nice you have to say about your brother, since you guys fight a lot?
I’ve got lots of nice things to say about him, though he’s always slagging me off. But I think he’s a great songwriter. He thinks he’s a little bit better at singing than me, which always pisses me off.
The album reviews of Don’t Believe the Truth I’ve read are lukewarm. Does that bother you?
Not really, I think that’s the way it is, darling. Until we pull out something really amazing, that is. The ones I’ve been reading have been all right, it’s been about 50/50 with the reviews. I think people expect too much of Oasis. But nothing bothers me.
Nothing bothers you? I hear you’ve got a hot temper, though.
Yeah, I’ve got a got temper when people pop cameras in my face. Other than that, I’m sweet. I get on with everyone.
But you’re not shy about having a go at other bands like Franz Ferdinand the way you did last year…
That’s my born right to have an opinion. And it’s my opinion that they sound like Right Said Fred. It’s not personal.
People go, “Do you like Franz Ferdinand?” I say, “No”. It’s my right as a musician, as a person, in general, to diss them. And they can diss my band, I don’t lose sleep over it. And if they get upset and say “Oh, he slagged off my band”, I say “Fucking go back to art college, you little wussies.”
Does it bother you that they slag you off in the press and not to your face?
Not in the slightest. The difference between me and them is that I’ll tell it to their face when we go to Bangkok. (No slagging face-off, as far as we know, went on in Bangkok.)
You guys have kept your fan base even if your last three albums were slammed a bit by the critics. How do you think you’ve managed that?
Do you think I give a toss about what some failed musician says about my record? Some spotty little idiot writing for some stupid magazine didn’t like my record because he didn’t like my attitude? I don’t give a fuck.
All right Liam, would you say you’ve mellowed down over the years?
No, not really. I wouldn’t say so. It depend I guess. I think I’ve a good angle on my life. I was on a bender for the past 15 years, not any more. I’ve kids, I’ve other things in my life than being a rock star.
It’s a nice place to be. Ten years ago, I didn’t have anything. All I had is this band, and you tend to go a bit daft. But I’m not the person I was 10 years ago.
Is it true you thought about taking up yoga to chill out?
(Chuckles) Laying on your back and all that, getting into bendy awkward positions? No, I don’t think so. People who write these things must be on drugs. No, no yoga for me.
Have you and your long-time girlfriend Nicole got married? There are rumours floating around on the Net…
No. You’re all nosy parkers. I don’t think it’s all that important. It we got married, you’d know about it. But it wouldn’t change your life.
Are you excited to come to Singapore?
I’m excited to go everywhere, man. I’ve got a huge amount of energy and I love to see places I haven’t been. I can’t remember where it is, to tell you the truth, but I can’t wait. And people can expect a no-nonsense, straight rock ‘n’ roll show.
Pure attitude, five great-looking guys on stage doing it how it’s meant to be done.

TORONTO - Even Oasis guitarist-singer Noel Gallagher is impressed at the wealth of British rock bands in T.O. this week.
Oasis played the Air Canada Centre on Monday night with the Arctic Monkeys opening. The Arctic Monkeys headlined their own show at the Phoenix last night. And ex-Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft opens for Coldplay at the ACC tonight and tomorrow night.
"Oh, well, fuckin' hell, good week for Toronto, eh?" Gallagher told the Sun during a Canadian newspaper exclusive interview on Monday night at the ACC. "It doesn't really get any better than that, does it?"
Gallagher says this particular confluence of artists would never happen in his native country.
"Promoters wouldn't put Coldplay and Oasis in the same city in the same week. I'm sure the bands wouldn't give a f--k. I'm sure they'd (sell) but I'm not sure whether (promoters) would be prepared to take the risk of whether they would or not."
Gallagher said he was unable to stick around Toronto to see any of the gigs by his fellow British rock stars as Oasis was flying down to Milwaukee last night for a gig as they finish off their last two weeks of a world tour that began in March 2005.
Gallagher, who doesn't write on the road and is planning on taking the summer off, doesn't expect the band to be back in the studio until at least the fall with "no serious work" until next year.
"I don't sit down and write words 'cause I think that's not a very noble thing to do on the road," he said. "I think on the road, you should drink and f--kin' live the life. Working and touring doesn't mix for me. I'll write when I get home."
Oasis last album, Don't Believe The Truth, was largely seen as a return to form with Gallagher sharing more songwriting duties than ever before with brother-singer Liam and other members of the band. But Gallagher was wary of the theory that increased competition will only make his songwriting better the next time out.
"I don't know. Every time we have a successful album, we always f--k the next one up," he only half-joked.
More seriously, Noel said he doesn't consider Liam a songwriting competitor nor vice-versa.
"Liam doesn't look at it like that either," he said. "It's not a case of competition really. I couldn't write a song called The Meaning Of Soul, lyrics like that, 'cause I'm almost 20 years into being a songwriter. Liam couldn't write a song like The Importance Of Being Idle, 'cause it's just not in him yet. Liam's songwriting is very youthful. Like Love Like A Bomb and The Meaning Of Soul is kind of very youthful songwriting. I've had that with Rock 'N' Roll Star from a long, long, long time ago."
Ultimately, Gallagher said, their sound will never change drastically from record to record.
"We're really pleased with what we sound like," he said. "We're really pleased with what we are. The identity we've carved out over the best part of 15 years. That's not something that we're about to toss up in the air and become a space-reggae f--kin' band, because I'm not just into that. I don't want to challenge my audience because they're friends of mine. I don't want to be like f--kin' saying to them, 'Well, I'm on a musical journey come along if you want but it might go a bit jazzy.' It's like we make Oasis music man and you all know what it sounds like."
Judging from Oasis' longevity, Gallagher may be on to something.
"The songs are not tied to any particular era or the lyrics don't deal with any ... you know we've never had our George Bush era," he said. "Or our 'Let's save the world, famine-in-Africa, album,' or our weirdy-beardy album. The songs are timeless. The lyrics, they're either profound or it's nonsense. That always lasts forever."
St. Paddy's Day toasts started at 'half-nine that morning' for Liam
Liam Gallagher gave whole new meaning to the term "Top Of The Morning" this past St. Patrick's Day.
Brother Noel Gallagher told the Sun in a Canadian newspaper exclusive this week in Toronto that his sibling hit the green beer early that day in New York City.
"I've got to say that Liam did it for all of us," said Gallagher. "I bumped into him in Soho, it would have been about mid-day and he'd been drinking since half-nine that morning. I was with my girlfriend so we were kind of furniture shopping 'cause we're moving house (in London) but I'm glad Liam was doing it for the lads."
When it's suggested that Noel, 38, has finally grown up, he responds: "I find drinking at half-nine in the morning is a bit excessive. I can kind of start drinking at half-nine at night, do you know what I mean?, and I can kind of go on drinking til half-nine in the morning. I wouldn't start at half-nine in the morning. I'd be in bed by mid-day."
Unbelievably, Gallagher experienced his first-ever St. Patrick's Day in The Big Apple.
"They do take it very seriously don't they?" said Gallagher. "I've seen Chinese people with green bowler hats on and I'm not sure the Chinese people knew what the f--k was going on, to be honest. To see them walking around the streets, as if someone's just stuck this green bowler hat on them (and said) 'Smile!'"

Oasis To Take A Hiatus
They'll be ...back in 2008
Oasis have revealed that they are set to take a hiatus now all other commitments are finished.
The band have recently wrapped up their world tour and are planning on putting their feet up until 2007, when Noel plans to pen some new tracks.
Speaking to Russell Brand on 6music, Noel Gallagher admitted Oasis have shelved a set of songs originally touted for release on an EP.
He said: "We had a couple of tracks left over from the last record and in our own heads we thought they were good enough to be released as an EP.
"We went back and listened to the tapes and we reckon we can get it better, so we're having the year off instead."

When it comes to quality, it's probably Oasis' finest (or close). I've been listening to it for quite sometime and I found great songs with great lyrics, but I don't know anybody (not Oasis fan) who's liked it or even heard of it. What do you think?

It's good but if anything I think it is slightly overrated! I mean I love lots of the songs on it, but as an album as a whole, I definitely prefer Morning Glory, Be Here Now, Definitely Maybe & Don't Believe The Truth. I'd put it on the same kind of level as Heathen Chemistry and SOTSOG personally. But the Masterplan itself might be my fave Oasis song.

Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory are great albums, but a bit commercial for my taste (I love them, though). The Masterplan shows another level of songwriting Noel had never reached, and that itself makes the album more appealing

Rock group Oasis have announced they will release an 18-track greatest hits album in time for Christmas.
Stop the Clocks will feature a mixture of chart singles and lesser-known B-sides, all chosen by the band.
Wonderwall, Half the World Away and debut hit Supersonic will be on the collection, released on 20 November.
Oasis are to take a break from touring and recording but there was "absolutely no truth" in suggestions they were splitting up, a band spokeswoman said.
"They've been touring for nearly two years and finished in May, and then they said they were going to take some time out," she told the BBC News website.
Britpop icons
Fronted by the Gallagher brothers, Oasis have sold 40 million albums around the world since they formed in 1993.
Noel, 39, and Liam, 33, have become renowned for their feuding, temper and swearing, as well as being one of the defining bands of the Britpop era.
Their first two albums - Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story) Morning Glory - were critically acclaimed and earned them global attention.
Be Here Now would become the fastest-selling album in chart history when it was released at the height of their fame in 1997.
Since then, they have released three further studio albums, plus a live set and a B-sides compilation.

WIN A CHANCE TO SEE OASIS ON THE ROAD FILM IN A CITY OF YOUR CHOICE
For this and more Oasis news articles please click on the link http://www.oasisinet.com
As previously announced, Oasis will release their Best Of collection, Stop The Clocks on November 20th, 2006. To celebrate the release the album will be accompanied by the first ever on the road film of Oasis, Lord Dont Slow Me Down which will be screened in selected cities across the world in November. You and a friend could be among the first to see it and, even better, you can choose where in the world you go, and get there for free. If thats not enough you also get five days accommodation thrown in for good measure. From Tokyo to New York and Sydney to London, once the venues are confirmed one lucky winner will be able to choose their dream destination.
To win this superb opportunity, it seems appropriate that you have to prove yourself the ultimate Oasis fan. Whilst we all know that“Stop The Clocks will be with us in November, the tracklisting is, at the moment, a closely guarded secret, having been chosen by the band from their incredible collection of songs. What we want you to do is tell us what you think the 18 tracks are and the running order in which they appear on the album. Weâ€(tm)ve already revealed that Acquiesce, Half The World Away, Supersonic, Wonderwall and The Importance of Being Idle are on there, which leaves 13 tracks to add and the running order to decipher.

Oasis finally announce best of tracklisting
'Stop The Clocks' selections confirmed
Oasis have finally confirmed the tracklisting for their forthcoming best of album.
The songs for 'Stop The Clocks', released on November 20, was selected by the band themselves and had previously been kept secret.
This led to much speculation as to what would appear on the album - and several incorrect lists emerged.
However, the group have now announced their true selections.
The 'Stop The Clocks' tracklisting is:
'Rock 'N' Roll Star'
'Some Might Say'
'Talk Tonight'
'Lyla'
'The Importance Of Being Idle'
'Wonderwall'
'Slide Away'
'Cigarettes & Alcohol'
'The Masterplan'
'Live Forever'
'Acquiesce'
'Supersonic'
'Half The World Away'
'Go Let It Out'
'Songbird'
'Morning Glory'
'Champagne Supernova'
'Don't Look Back In Anger'
The band are also set to release their first film, 'Lord Don't Slow Me Down', around the record's release

I know it will never ever show up on an Oasis Best Of Compilation, but I really think Roll It Over off of Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants, is one of their best, and it's my favorite song. Totally agree with Sunday Morning Call there, and Who Feels Love.

hey you guys, im new at this thread, but i've liked Oasis for about 4 years now, they've never really been on my top 5 fav list, but lately i've been listening to them alot.
The first album that got me into them was Be Here Now, by the way, cuz i noticed u guys were mentioning it. My FAV song on that, even more than Stand By Me, is The Girl in the Dirty Shirt, and its such a shame how underrated that song is (at least i think it is). I also brought for them Morning Glory, Dont Believe The Truth and Heathen Chemistry.
I need to check out some more of their stuff, because they're really a good band. So I'll check around here more often to see whats going on :)

Yea, Be Here Now is where I started with Oasis too. It's Getting Better Man is my fave off that one.
If ever there was an Oasis song that sounded like the Verve wrote and performed it, and Liam just put in vocals, it's gotta be Roll It Over.

11-10-2006, 04:25 AM
Ohh it was heaven indeed! I've been a fan forever and I never thought I was going to see them ever. But then out of the blue, the show was announced. It was last march, so of course they were supporting 'Don't Believe the truth'. Even though lots of people don't like it, I absolutely LOVE it, so it was perfect for me. And I got to hear The Masterplan and Songbird live, I would have been happy if they only played those two songs to be honest :laugh4:

11-10-2006, 12:26 PM
^aww... 'the masterplan' would've been too great when I saw them, but unfortunately they didn't play it (they actually did in another german location just some days later :dozey: lol)

And my memories from that night are like :nice:
I did get REALLY crushed though, bruised all over and felt like I broke more than a couple of bones, but I'm still alive! They even had to stop the gig to tell people to calm down :\
All my girlfriends went to the back after 2 songs but thankfully I had all my other friends who are boys around, so they kinda made a circle around me so I didn't get too crushed

Brits honour 'outstanding' Oasis
Oasis are to be given an outstanding achievement prize at next year's Brit Awards, organisers have announced.
The Manchester band shot to fame in 1994, and were at the forefront of the Britpop scene which saw guitar music return to the UK charts.
BPI chairman Peter Jamieson said: "Oasis set the standard for many of the young rock bands who are currently enjoying success in the UK charts."
Next year's awards show will be held at London's Earls Court on 14 February.
Fronted by Noel and Liam Gallagher, Oasis have sold 40 million albums around the world since they formed in 1993.
Dry spell
Their first two albums - Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story) Morning Glory? - were critically acclaimed and earned them global attention.
Be Here Now became the fastest-selling album in chart history when it was released at the height of their fame in 1997.
Despite their success, the outstanding achievement award sees Oasis breaking a 10-year dry spell at the Brits.
They last made it to the podium in 1996, when they received three awards - for best British group, best British video and best British album for (What's The Story) Morning Glory?
The band releases an 18-track greatest hits album in November, featuring a mixture of chart singles and lesser-known B-sides, all chosen by the band.
They are currently taking a break from touring and recording but have denied suggestions they are splitting up.
Previous winners of the Brit award for outstanding achievement include the Bee Gees, Paul Weller, Sting and the Spice Girls.

British recorded music industry trade association the BPI have announced that Oasis will be recognized with The Outstanding Contribution to Music at The BRIT Awards with MasterCard on Valentine's Day 2007.
This prestigious award is in the gift of the Council of the BPI, which organises the BRIT awards, all of the proceeds of which go to the industry's charity the BRIT Trust.
Oasis will receive the honour on stage at London's Earls Court on Wednesday 14 February 2007 when millions of TV viewers will see them perform and accept the award live on ITV.
BPI Chairman Peter Jamieson said, "Oasis set the standard for many of the young rock bands who are currently enjoying success in the UK charts. As the BRIT Awards goes live for the first time in nearly two decades, it is appropriate that we should honour one of the most exciting live acts the UK has produced."
Originally formed in Manchester in 1991, Oasis are one of the most successful and prominent British rock and roll bands ever. They are one of the pivotal bands to bring guitar music back into the UK charts.
Taking inspiration from 60s bands like The Beatles and The Kinks, Oasis were also heavily influenced by their fellow Mancunian bands like The Stone Roses and The Smiths.
With such critically acclaimed and massively successful albums as their debut Definitely Maybe and its 19 million selling follow up (What's the Story) Morning Glory? Oasis have inspired an entire generation of music fans and new bands like Kasabian and The Arctic Monkeys with their embodiment of rock 'n' roll hedonism and swagger. Oasis performed back-to-back concerts at Knebworth in 1996 having sold out both shows within minutes; 250,000 people over two nights. Their latest studio album "Don't Believe the Truth has given rise to two UK number one singles, sold over two million copies worldwide to date and the band continue to break records with their sold out tour dates across the globe.
In 2005, The Guinness Book of World Records declared Oasis the Most Successful Act of the Last Decade in the UK. Oasis have sold more than 50 million records worldwide.
Their first confirmed release of 2006 is a best of album entitled, Stop the Clocks . This much anticipated album will be released on the 20 November 2006 through Big Brother.
No strangers to the BRITs stage, Oasis have picked up BRITs in 1995 for Best British Breakthrough Act, in 1996 for Best British Album (What's The Story) Morning Glory?, Best British Group and Best British Video, "Wonderwall".
Oasis will receive the prestigious award and perform live at The BRITs 2007 with MasterCard. Previous recipients of the Outstanding Contribution Award include The Beatles, U2, Paul Weller, Tom Jones, Sting, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Eurythmics, The Who and many more.
BRITISH SINGLE AWARD GOES LIVE
For the first time in its history the BRIT Awards with MasterCard will feature a LIVE vote in 2007 as viewers are invited to choose the winner of The British Single category during the live TV broadcast.
Viewers will be able to vote during the two-hour long telecast for their favourite of the five shortlisted singles with the winner announced at the end of the show.
And in a unique collaboration with commercial radio, the final shortlist of five will be selected from a long list of 10 in a vote off by listeners of the hit40uk, A-List and Fresh 40 charts.
BPI Chairman Peter Jamieson said, "We have a longstanding and close relationship with commercial radio and we're delighted to be working with them on this BRITs first."
This year the British Single award was won by Coldplay's 'Speed of Sound'.
The nominations for the 27th BRIT Awards will be unveiled at the Hammersmith Palais in London on Tuesday, 16 January 2007. The launch will be televised live on ITV2 as part of "The BRITs are coming" programming. Both media and artists alike will discover who has been included in the most-talked-about nominations list of the year. Guests at the launch will be treated to three exclusive live performances from some of the hottest musical talent around. Details to be announced shortly.
Key to the prestige of The BRIT Awards 2007 with MasterCard is the fact that alongside categories chosen by the public, it also includes awards decided by The BRIT Awards Voting Academy.
The Academy is made up of 1000 specially invited members from different sectors of the music industry. Only 6% of the academy is represented by the major record labels and their associated companies, with the remaining 94% coming from Independent record companies, retailers, music critics & music press, music TV and Radio producers & presenters, music publishers, artist managers, concert promoters & venues, NUS representatives and DJ's.
The BRIT Awards is the only UK show from which all the proceeds are donated to charity. Millions have been raised over the years for its beneficiaries, which include The BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology and Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy. Over 7,000 young people have been given free education and the opportunity to enter the school since its opening in 1991 and more than 10,000 children and adults have been helped by the phenomenal music therapy work carried out by Nordoff Robbins.

After much speculation Oasis announce the final track listing for their definitive collection 'Stop The Clocks'.
Unlike most albums of this nature, Oasis have sat down and undertaken the almost impossible job of picking what they consider to be their finest moments ever. So 'Stop The Clocks' is imbued with the sort of wilfulness that has helped make Oasis the favourite band of millions of people worldwide and its running order will no doubt provoke equal parts adulation and bar discussions from the millions of Oasis fans worldwide. Could it ever be any other way? Oasis have been at the helm of the world’s music scene for over ten years and, on 20th November 2006 the first ever Oasis retrospective will draw together the years of multi platinum albums, Number One singles and, unique to Oasis, instantly familiar B sides into one 18 track double album entitled 'Stop the Clocks'. So here it is. The tracks as chosen by the band themselves – the songs they believe encapsulate their remarkable career to date.
Rock n Roll Star, Some Might Say, Talk Tonight, Lyla, The Importance of Being Idle, Wonderwall, Slide Away, Cigarettes & Alcohol, The Masterplan, Live Forever, Acquiesce, Supersonic, Half The World Away, Go Let It Out, Songbird, Morning Glory, Champagne Supernova, Don’t Look Back In Anger
Having spent 10 months on the road in support of the 2 million selling 'Don't Believe The Truth', 'Stop the Clocks' is released as Oasis take a well earned sabbatical prior to starting work on new material, destined for similar levels of success in the future. As such, this is not a full stop, but merely a time out; a dream set list, and a chance for the world to review the immense contribution that Oasis have made and continue to make to rock 'n'roll.
”There could have been more but these 18 songs, spinning in and out of no natural order, through 12 unforgettable years, are the songs the whole world sings, and will sing forever, songs which define the very point of being alive, which fill our souls with hope, escape, friendship, love, laughter, sex, beauty, oblivion, and the timeless freedom of the rock n roll dream itself. These could be the best days of our lives. And they were. And they still are”. (Sylvia Patterson)

Oasis singer Liam Gallagher has revealed the band are likely to get started on their new studio album this month.
The rock giants release their Best Of compilation 'Stop The Clocks' on November 20, but Gallagher is keen to get started on the follow-up 'proper' to 2005's 'Don't Believe The Truth'.
He told NME's sister magazine Uncut: "I reckon we're going to start doing something this month, go to our studio. It's the bollocks. Fuckin' old Tudor ranch in High Wycombe, fucking stay there and get it done. Just got to wait for Noel to finish his tunes I suppose."
Speaking about 'Stop The Clocks', which marks the end of the band's deal with SonyBMG, Gallagher added: "I want to get this (album) out of the fucking way, it's doing my head in. To me, it's the last of however fucking long, the last 16 years of that label, that's done. We can start again."

it would be so cool if their break wouldn't last as long as expected in the end  but hey, it's liam who's talking... he "reveales" many things these days  I guess we just have to wait and see what happens.
I wanna see them live again, dammiiit! :nice:

On Tuesday I went to Mando Diao's concert in Hamburg and Sugarplum Fairy was one of two support bands. They played a cover version of "Wonderwall". I recorded a short part of it. Any interests? ;)

Noel Gallagher To Play Exclusive Radio 1 Gig
Noel Gallagher will perform his most intimate gig ever in the front room of one lucky BBC Radio 1 listener as part of the network's first Live Lounge tour, hosted by DJ Jo Whiley from Monday 27 November to Friday 1 December.
Noel's gig is part of a week of live performances direct from the living rooms of Britain's top headline acts including Lily Allen, The Kooks, The Ordinary Boys and Lostprophets.
The week will wind up with a once in a lifetime opportunity for one Radio 1 listener to have Noel Gallagher play exclusively in their own home.
Kicking off the week is Lily Allen - whose chart-topping single, Smile, became one of the most infectious anthems of the summer - performing live from her houseboat on the River Thames.
On Tuesday it's one of the hottest bands of the moment, The Kooks, who will perform live tracks from their best mate's lounge in London, where they wrote most of their album.
On Wednesday, listeners get a special celebrity double whammy as The Ordinary Boys perform live tracks from lead singer Preston's house, which he shares with his wife and Celebrity Big Brother winner Chantelle.
On Thursday Jo hooks up with Welsh rockers Lostprophets as the band perform live from lead singer Ian's mum's house in Wales.
And on Friday, the tour has a very special ending as Noel Gallagher performs live tracks from the lounge of a Radio 1 competition winner.
Jo Whiley said: "We've had so many amazing artists performing in the Live Lounge all playing their music in a way you just couldn't hear anywhere else which for me is the magic of it.
"Going out on the road is going to be really exciting and I'm looking forward to hearing the bands play in their own lounge rather than in ours.
"To top it all off we've got Noel Gallagher performing in a Radio 1 listener's home - which for any Oasis fan has got to be the ultimate prize”.
Over the years, Radio 1's world famous Live Lounge has played host to the biggest and best acts in the music world, with everyone from The White Stripes and Coldplay through to Basement Jaxx and the Arctic Monkeys and many more.
Radio 1's Live Lounge is the established place for both well known and up-and-coming acts to perform exclusive stripped down versions of their music in a way you will only hear on Radio 1, also often accepting the challenge to cover one of their favourite songs creating extraordinary musical moments which have become part of the show's legacy.

Care to explain?
You mean why I like it or why it's not "their song"? I meant that it's not written by them, it's just a cover.. And why I like it? I don't know, it's just a great song, I've been a fan of the song "Songbird" itself for ages anyway, no matter if it was by the Beatles, Oasis or a live cover by Coldplay.. And the Oasis version is the best, in my opinion.

Just in case she doubts me, from Wikipedia:-
"Songbird" is a song by British rock band Oasis, from their fifth studio album Heathen Chemistry. It was released as the fourth single from that album on 3 February 2003 and peaked at #1 in the UK charts. It was the first time the band had released a single not written by Noel.
Upon joining Oasis in the early nineties, Noel Gallagher claimed sole-songwriting responsibilities, and allowing little-to-no leeway from the rest of the band. He openly mocked the songwriting output of Liam and Bonehead, who had been in charge of Oasis' songwriting prior to his joining and had written a handful of tracks such as "Take Me" and an acoustic number titled "Life In Vain". Liam elaborated on the situation in 1994, after the release of Definitely Maybe saying "Noel won't let me (write), but I can't really write anyway... In the future if I started writing top tunes, I still don't think he'd be up for it... I know for a fact, even if he was going dry, he wouldn't play my songs... I'm not happy with that, but that's the way it is innit?". However, after Oasis' third album Be Here Now received a cold reception from music critics, Noel began to loosen his control and allowed Liam to contribute songs. Though his first effort, "Little James" which appeared on Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, was criticised for being too simple and childlike (in particular, rhyming "plasticine" with "trampoline"), Songbird was very well received, despite only being based around of two simple chords (G + Em7), its simplicity yet beauty being the things most popular about it.
The song, written for Liam's long term girlfriend Nicole Appleton, was seen as a surprising break away from Liam's "Hard-Man" image. He explained this away saying "I like beautiful things...It's not all dark in Liam World. I take me shades off every now and again and have a look at the world and see some nice things."
Songbird is the shortest running Oasis single, at 2:07.

It was originally called Deb's Dinner, and was accidentally credited as Digsy's Diner on the USA edition of Def Maybe.
