the viva "video-text" said it could be that they are... xD they were seen somewhere in italy, in a hotel that is well known for honeymoon. *hehe* but I've forgotten the source  ... anyways, liam always says he won't get married again, as far as I know. *g* no idea.

never believe what our dirty little diva Liam says...

50 million albums cant be wrong

my opinions, oasis are the greatest ever, there cockyness and arrogance is what makes them so good on stage and are just great to follow

jonny buckland and chris martin did live forever with noel, and martins performance was shocking, getting words wrong and singing wrong lines....noel showed him how its done ;)

id also like to add that with the new number 1 single, oasis have now beat THE BEATLES record of consecutive top 5 singles, which now stands at 19

the beatles recorded 18, but the best band ever have now eclipsed another great

i read somewhere that the band may release another b sides album, the ones from SOTSOG, heathen Chemistry and don't beleive the truth.

although its not going o be as good as the masterplan album there are still some good b sides from this period

i thnk '(you've got) the heart of a star' released on the songbird single is an absolute classic. to me its up there with the best things the band has recorded.
theres also another song 'lets all make believe' released on the go let it out single which is really good too.

and I like the Andy bell written track 'thank you for the good times' released on the stop crying your hart ot single.

the latest b sides from the lyla and importance of being idle singles sound good. i like the track written by gem 'eyeball tickler'

i can't explain it either, i just think they are a great band. they're not on the level of U2 or the Rolling stones but if they work hard enough, why not?

who cares at the end of the day, as long as they keep making great music

got this from NME.com

A previously unheard OASIS track will be released on October 17 – and could be the last from the band for some time to come.

With Noel Gallagher telling NME.COM last week that the band won’t release a new album until at least 2007, possibly even 2010, the band have contributed a brand new song to the soundtrack of the forthcoming football film ‘Goal! The Movie’ called ‘Who Put The Weight Of The World On My Shoulders?’.

Written and performed by Noel, insiders who have heard the track revealed: “The song really feels like a classic Noel-fronted track, it’s principally acoustic but has got really melodic strings all over it.”

The track appears to reference the band’s current album ‘Don’t’ Believe The Truth’ and the guitarist’s contempt for TV news which inspired it, with Noel singing: “Who put the weight of the world on my shoulders?/ Who put the lies in the truth that you sold us/ Lost behind a silver screen are all the things you could have been to us”.

“It’s a weighty, heart-felt lament from Noel,” added the insider, “in a way it sounds like the other side of the coin to ‘Whatever’ (1994 single), epic but really soulful.”

Noel’s contribution to ‘Goal!’ came about after director Danny Cannon visited him while the band were recording in Los Angeles earlier this year. Having agreed to take part, the new track was recorded in London just after the band’s short club show tour in May, and was produced by UNKLE.

The soundtrack also features other rare Oasis material, with an unreleased mix of ‘Morning Glory’ by ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’ producer Dave Sardy which adds an aggressive edge to the track, plus the new UNKLE ‘Beachhead’ re-recording of ‘Cast No Shadow’ featuring Noel on vocals. B-side ‘Acquiesce’ is not slated for the soundtrack album, but features in the film itself.

‘Goal!’ follows the story of a Mexican illegal immigrant who journeys from Los Angeles to Newcastle hoping to make it as professional footballer, and is released on September 20.

Get it here:-

http://www.savefile.com/files/1454002

From the Goal! soundtrack, truly is a beautiful song, lyrics are as follows:-

Who put the weight of the world on my shoulders?
Who put the lies in the truth that you sold us?
Lost behind a silver screen are all the things you could have been to us.

So don't try and fuck up my head with your problems
I'm just trying to fix up my bed in the doldrums
Lost behind a silver screen are all the things you could have been in love... and life.. so...

Help me out, my friend
My head just started to hurt
I don't pretend
I've got the all of the time in the world
So now, She's gone
On her own in her own universe
I still, walk on
'til I hold you within my world

So help me out, my friend
My head just started to hurt
I won't pretend
I've got the all of the time in the world
So now, she's gone
On her own in her own universe
But I'll still, walk on
'til I hold you within my world

Who put the weight of the world on my shoulders?
Who put the lies in the truth that you sold us?

Awesome song!

Just something for all the Oasis haters here:-

A well written, objective review of both Oasis`s and Coldplay`s gig in Dallas.

"Battle of the Brits:
Coldplay vs. Oasis Dallas concert showdown
Stephanie Garcia

September 27, 2005

Two of England’s most famous bands paid a visit to the Smirnoff Music Centre last week.
Oasis shook up fans on Sept. 22 and, the next night, Coldplay graced the stage, playing for a sold-out crowd. Two big nights for Smirnoff and fans that can’t get enough of what the United Kingdom has to offer. So, the rock ‘n’ roll gruff of Oasis versus the crooning piano ballads of Coldplay … who was more deserving of the $50 ticket?

In terms of production, Coldplay went all out, with giant screens displaying things such as band members to a bear crawling on all four legs.

All colors of the rainbow were shined into the eyes of the crowd while singer Chris Martin either ran up and down the stage like a child refusing cough syrup.

Oasis took a different approach, nothing too flashy, for they want all the attention on them, or at least singer Liam Gallagher wants all the attention on him.

Strings of Christmas lights were hanging around blocks while bars of red and blue signaled on and off.

While Coldplay’s multi-colored atmosphere was interesting to look at, it distracted from the music. For at least half the show, the screen artwork was more interesting than the band itself.

The most important thing about a gig is the music, of course, and both Coldplay and Oasis delivered the energy to please the groups’ fans. There is no doubt that either knows how to put on a good show, but Oasis has the advantage. Not only has Oasis been around longer, but it is genuinely the better band.

Oasis began the set with “Turn up the Sun” off the group’s latest album, Don’t believe the Truth, which immediately made the crowds’ hands shoot up and I’m not quite sure the hands ever came back down. Liam sang in his Manchester drawl, sunglasses, blazer and Levis in the most arrogant “screw off” hands-in-pockets sort of way, while guitarist and singer Noel Gallagher, in a grey t-shirt and jeans, modestly proved he has much more talent than his brother.

Noel glided through the guitar solo on “Live Forever” and just when you think Liam is staring in aw at his brother, you realize he’s looking directly into a video camera recording the show. Liam leaves the stage a few times, because he cannot handle just standing about the stage while Noel takes over lead vocals on crowd hits such as “The Importance of Being Idle” and “Mucky Fingers.”

Of course, Oasis played the classics. According to Liam, “Morning Glory” is for the cowboys, while “Cigarettes and Alcohol” is obviously for the alcoholics. I don’t really need to tell you that “Wonderwall” and “Champagne Supernova” were done in prefect tune and grace, but I will anyway. They are two of the best–known songs to come out of the ‘90s, and they are still relevant today and Liam knows it. I’ve never seen a more arrogant man in my life, Liam standing center stage biting his tambourine like a prize dog and his bone just waiting to be adored, like the god he thinks he is. He doesn’t have to wait long at all.

Noel overtakes the throne on the second to last song of the night, “Don’t Look Back in Anger”. Noel stepped back for the first chorus leaving it up to the audience to fill in. That song was perfect in just about every way, I’m sure there were some tears flowing by the time Oasis tore into the last song of the evening, a cover of The Who’s “My Generation.”

So, maybe Coldplay doesn’t have the same reputation of classics as

Oasis, but the audience wouldn’t believe that for one minute. Coldplay walked through the maze of flashing lights and began with “Square One” off the act’s new album, X&Y. The mom and daughter next to me start screaming and jumping up and down shouting “Chris! Chris!” as do many of the fans around, then everyone starts swaying and screaming. The next song, “Politik,” proves to be an early crowd favorite and sends everyone into even more hysterics with the pounding piano and the line “open up your eyes.” Drummer Will Champion is at his best in this song and the crowd spazes out when his giant converse shoe is shown on the screen.

I was surprised to see the band’s debut hit, “Yellow,” played so early in the set. Usually, that’s the type of song a band likes to end with, but Coldplay has apparently moved on. It did, however sound wonderful and yellow balloons filled with confetti came down on the center section of seats. The first single off X&Y, “Speed of Sound” proved to be a bit of a crowd downer, people began to sit down and have private conversations or play with their cell phones, also, I believe this is the song in which a man a few seats next to me vomited.

Coldplay has a lot of slow-paced piano ballad type of songs, which don’t always work too well live, since they have so many of them, it makes for a sleepy audience and people start to lose interest, and this is what I figured the song “Trouble” would do, but it proved me wrong and was actually one of the highlights of the show.

Martin even told a childhood story about his love for Phil Collins while his dad was trying to educate him on Johnny Cash, he then went on to sing a cover of Cash’s “Ring of Fire,” which got a lot of love from the crowd. But as amusing as that cover was, “Clocks” was the crowd favorite. It’s surely one of the most energetic songs Coldplay has to offer. Martin’s vocals stayed pretty consistent through out the whole show, even on the high notes.

The band closed with the epic sounding motions of “Fix You” and cell phones glowed in the mist of the thousands of fans for one last time. All four members dressed in black gathered at the front of the stage to bow, blow kisses, and wave goodbye, while I couldn’t help but think—why didn’t they play “Shiver”?

The Bottom line: Coldplay is a bit too dramatic and Oasis just wanted to play some rock ‘n’ roll. Oasis is well worth the $50. No light show required"

Source:- ntdaily.com

Seemed he liked Oasis better and wasn`t fooled by Coldplay`s shiny lights and bangs, but more about the music, which is all anyone can ask.

Night on the booze leads to collaboration plans

Oasis and Kasabian are set to collaborate together - unless they were just drunk when the idea came-up.

The bands, who are currently touring America together, have discussed working on some songs, though Oasis leader Noel Gallagher admitted that might have been the beer talking.

"A lot of things are said in dressing rooms at 4 o'clock in the morning when you're drunk," Gallagher told MTV. "We're talking about doing some stuff with them, but I don't know that anything will come of that."

However the sobered-up, the guitarist added in the cold light of day he still hoped the two bands would link-up.

"They are more than welcome in my studio, and there's a chance I might be doing some songs," said Gallagher. "I hope it does [happen] - it will be great."

As previously reported on NME.COM, Kasabian plan to enter the studio on their return from the tour with Oasis, something guitarist Serge Pizzorno says his band are really looking forward to.

"It's nice to just sit in a studio and start crafting and working things out," he explained. "We are so full of ideas - 'difficult second album' has even entered our heads."

I used to really like Oasis. This last album for me has been a dissapointing effort. Not gonna go into detail but i just think they have lost what they once had. And their guitar duels and solos are not up to scratch either. Dont get me wrong. Its ok. Its just not a "Whats the story morning glory"

Kasabian ready to "rage in studio" with Oasis

With their month-long stint opening for Oasis in America coming to an end tonight at Atlantic City's House of Blues, British rockers Kasabian are just not ready to let go. "I'm holding on to every last inch I can grab," says frontman Tom Meighan. "We've had some great gigs, and some good nights. It's just been an amazing time for us."

The members of the Leicester five-piece chose to end the campaign for their self-titled debut, out last spring, by supporting their teenage heroes. Now mates with the infamous Gallagher brothers (singer Liam and guitarist/songwriter Noel), Meighan and Kasabian guitarist Sergio Pizzorno were even invited onstage during Oasis' set closer last week.

"Me and Serge did [a cover of the Who's] 'My Generation' with them," Meighan announces. "Not many people come onstage with Oasis, do they? It's a brotherhood! 'Soul brothers' is what Noel says." And as for frontman Liam, Meighan adds, "He's as mad as a hatter! Fucking nuts. But I understand exactly where he's coming from. I feel his vibe; I feel Noel's vibe. We're buzzing."

Offstage, Oasis, Kasabian and fellow openers Jet have indulged in some hotel shenanigans. "Late nights in the swimming pools," says Meighan. "Serge and Liam were going on a mad one, diving in the pool fully clothed, fucking going nuts."

Once they've dried off, Kasabian will head back into the studio to work on their second record, which they hope to have out next May. Jim Abyss (DJ Shadow, U.N.K.L.E.) will again produce, helping the boys refine the dozen tracks they've penned, including "The Stuntman" and "Shoot the Runner." According to Meighan, their time on the road has put a new spin on their sound. "Oasis and Jet have influenced [the music], man, of course," he says. "Just the sheer power of Oasis: You know it's them when you hear a song. It's massive, it's big, it's in your face. We want to get in the studio as soon as we can and write that monster second record."

Tonight though, Kasabian will be celebrating their final date of the tour in style. "We've been on the road twenty-two months, and to end it like this? With Oasis, the monsters of rock? It just doesn't come any better than that," gushes Meighan. "I've made friends for life in everyone here. There are many good times to come."

Oasis plan standalone single for 2006

The band hope to release a new tune in the new year
Oasis hope to release a new non-album single early next year.

The band are expected to release 'Let There Be Love' as their next single, but have said its follow-up might be a standalone effort.

"We haven't done it since 'Whatever'," Noel Gallagher told Xfm. "It depends if we get the time to go into the studio because we're pretty flat out until next March. We'll see what happens after that."

The song in question was written by Liam Gallagher but was omitted from recent album 'Don't Believe The Truth'.

"It's called 'The Boy With The Blues'... I think we're gonna put out just as a single, that's not gonna be on the next album," explained the guitarist. "That might be out for early next year, but I'm not sure yet."

Noel added they had plenty of other new material in hand, though he wasn't sure if it was destined for the band's next album.

"We've got about 11 pretty good songs for the next record that were left over from this one, but if we go into the studio I don't know if we're gonna go in there and say 'Right we're making an album'," he mused. "We're just going record the ones for this one that we didn't record in our own studio and see how it goes."

Your husband is my God!!!!!!! I have to meet him!!!!!!! Never heard of someone like him!!!!!! I wanna hear your story!!!!!!

Let me give you alittle back ground. My husband and a group of his 10 closest friends have been going to Oasis shows for years. Ever since they were 16 and that was over 10 years ago. Just to give you and idea. So one night one of his buddies calls to tell him that Oasis is coming to MSG and they have to get tickets. From the time I met my husband we have been planning to go as soon as they went on tour again. So I assumed when he so excitedly told me about the concert that meant we were going togeather, or I'd tag along with the guys or whatever. Well as time went by I heard less and less about the show from him and eventually I had to ask what was going on with tickets. At that point he informed me that his friends had gotten them and there were only enough for him and his friends. I was absolutely heartbroken. I gave him so much shit for it until the very day of the concert. I didn't speak to him the week before he went and I wouldn't pick up his phone calls while he was there. I know it sounds harsh but I was crushed. They were also playing in Boston but we couldn't afford both shows then. So to make it up to me, the week after we got married he got us floor seats to see Coldplay at Madsion Square Garden togeather. Which was a really wonderful show and we had an amazing time, but he still owes me!!!!!

Oasis sign 6 figure deal with Toshiba

Oasis have inked a six-figure sponsorship deal with an electronics company to promote a new phone with exclusive new video and audio tracks from the Gallagher brothers.

The band will apparently make the video to their new single "Let There Be Love" available on the forthcoming music-based Toshiba 803 hand-set.

Customers who buy the hand-set will also get five exclusive video and audio tracks from their shows at the City of Manchester Stadium in the UK in July 2005.

According to reports, Toshiba will also sponsor the remainder of Oasis's live dates in 2005, which see the Manc rock'n'roll heroes play a string of shows across Europe, Japan and Australia.

Meanwhile, Noel Gallagher has revealed that Oasis are set to release a brand new track not featured on this year's "Don't Believe The Truth", at the start of the 2006.

Speaking at last week's Q awards, Noel explained: "There's one song that Liam wrote that was left off (the album) called 'The Boy With The Blues' that I think we're gonna put out just as a single, that's not gonna be on the next album.

"That might be out for early next year, but I'm not sure yet," he said.

Oasis play the following dates in the UK later this year:

December 05

10 Cardiff, Millennium Stadium
12 Aberdeen, AECC
14+15 Glasgow, SECC
18+19 Belfast, Belfast Odyssey Arena
21 Dublin, The Point Depot
22 Dublin, Point Theatre

LET THERE BE LOVE TO BE 3RD SINGLE

‘Let There Be Love’ will be the third single taken from Oasis’ double platinum selling album ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’. The album has already spawned two number one singles this year, ‘Lyla’ and ‘The Importance Of Being Idle’. In October it won Q Magazine’s prestigious Album Of The Year award and the People’s Choice Award.

The single is released on CD, DVD and 10” vinyl on 28th November 2005 on Big Brother Recordings. The CD and 10” will feature a brand new Noel penned track entitled ‘Sittin’ Here In Silence (On My Own)’ which was produced and mixed by Dave Sardy. The documentary footage included on the DVD goes behind the scenes of Oasis’ biggest ever world tour, which will seen them play to over 2 million people worldwide in 2005. Recorded by renowned promo director Baillie Walsh it is a taste of a longer film to come, entitled “Lord Don’t Slow Me Down” and culminates in the spine-tingling new video for “Let There Be Love”.

Oasis love Jet

By Natacha Butler

October 27, 2005

PARIS: Oasis supremo Noel Gallagher has lavished glowing praise on Australian guitar-rock outfit Jet, calling their music a turn-on.

The British pop star, known for hurling abuse at pop contemporaries such as Robbie Williams or Bloc Party, says he's a convert to the Melbourne rockers, who recently supported Oasis for a series of gigs in the United States.

"When I first saw Jet it was too rock for me, but they're four of the coolest guys I ever met," Gallagher said backstage in Paris, halfway through a world tour.

"You can't argue with Are You Gonna Be My Girl. I never listened to any of their singles and stuff but I'm a fan now."

Gallagher, who has made boasting an art form, still believes Oasis is the best band in the world but, in a display of eyebrow-raising generosity, the 38-year-old star is happy to oil the Jet engine.

"They played me some of their new record which is incredible. It's nothing like the one out last year. It's really, really great. They turn me on, really."

Oasis's sixth album, Don't Believe the Truth, was released in May and is widely heralded as a return to form more than a decade since arm-waving pop anthems like Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger rocked up the charts and helped launch Britpop.

Gallagher and his brother Liam's drug and alcohol-fuelled antics have been making salacious tabloid fodder ever since, but while bands like The Happy Mondays and the Stone Roses never recovered from the Britpop hangover, Oasis are still selling albums and packing out stadiums around the world.

That, of course, is no surprise to the ever-confident Gallagher.

"We were listening back to this (album) thinking it's great and absolutely totally convinced everyone's going to get it and everyone did. So I'm pleased the fans like it and the people who've stood by us for years".

As a pop veteran, Gallagher has little time for the new generation of skinny-trouser and tie-clad guitar-driven bands such as Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs, dismissing them as "indie s***".

"Within that realm of indie s***, Franz Ferdinand is about as good as it gets. Take Me Out is a tune that wins hands down but, really, it's f***ing indie rubbish," Gallagher said.

"We were at the NME awards last year and we were the only ones not sat there with shirts and ties on. Everyone else was there in school uniforms, it was like being at a school disco."

Few things, though, rub a Gallagher up the wrong way quite as much as Robbie Williams.

The tabloids' favourite pop feud reared its head again after Williams hinted a track on his new album was a sexually explicit expose of his ex-girlfriend, All Saints star Nicole Appleton, now 33-year-old Liam's fiancee and mother of his youngest child, Gene.

"I feel sorry for Robbie Williams because nobody once ever mentions his music," laughs Gallagher cheekily.

"I wouldn't walk a mile in his shoes because he seems to be a very lonely and unhappy, very confused young man. He doesn't know whether he's straight or gay. He's forever going on about wanting a girlfriend and seems to be a lonely, sad man."

Gallagher still knows how to throw a verbal punch but after years of pop superstardom, fatherhood and eyeing 40, he admits he increasingly enjoys what he calls an ordinary life in his west London home.

"It's a bit weird going to the supermarket (sometimes) you kind of freak people out when you've got four bags of shopping," he says.

"But you've got to have a real life because if you don't, you end up like Elton John or George Michael.

"Can you imagine George Michael buying toothpaste and a toothbrush and a newspaper or some lemons?

"Ordinary people are determined to make you feel bad, though. You'll be in the queue at the supermarket with a pint of milk, some bread and a newspaper and someone will say, 'what you doing here?'

"I turn around and say, f*** off, I'm doing my f***ing shopping like you are."

The star says he's horrified by the prospect of becoming a rock dinosaur in the mould of the Rolling Stones, although the band has no intention of hanging up their guitar straps just yet.

"As long as (Liam) looks good we'll be around for a bit. So when he hits 40, that's when we'll start having problems," he laughs. "Luckily we're blessed with great hair, I don't dye mine, nor does Liam, so we're still hanging in there."

Gallagher's days of heavy drug abuse, hellraising and general rock 'n' roll mayhem may be easing off as he takes his foot off the pedal, but there's no doubt what still gets one of Britain's most colourful pop icons revved up.

"You can't beat walking out into a football stadium and have 20,000 people simultaneously fall in love with you."

Australian fans will have a chance to lose their hearts to Oasis when the band tours later this month. Gallagher promises no repeats of their disastrous 1998 visit, which culminated in Liam being charged for headbutting a fan in Brisbane.

"I can't remember it really, I was just too f***ing out of it at the time," Gallagher says of the incident.

"We'd gone off the rails completely, it was great being in the band but I wouldn't have liked to have been in the audience. We had a great time but I'm sure all the people who paid all that money didn't.

"We were f***ing appalling, we were shocking, which is why the next time (in 2002) was so fantastic because we made a conscious effort to really turn it on.

"We're really looking forward to going back this time."

Oasis kick off their Australian tour on November 26 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, before concerts in Sydney and Melbourne.

Oasis still bigger than the rest ?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oasis have never been strangers to controversy, and Noel Gallagher has been back in the news with some strong comments about the current crop of British bands. In an interview with Australia's Triple J radio station, the band's leader was asked about groups such as Franz Ferdinand, the Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party.

"Let's call it what it is--it's indie s---, is what it is," he said. "None of them are trying to make it big. They're all trying to make it small or medium--that's it."

Not trying to make it big is an accusation that could never be aimed at the Gallagher brothers. The very first track on their debut album declared: "I'm a rock 'n' roll star."

Eleven years on, there's no doubting their star status.

This week, Japanese audiences will get a second chance to see the band this year when they visit Osaka and Tokyo as part of their 2005 World Tour.

And they'll be keen to show just how big they still are. In the Australian radio interview, 38-year-old Noel was not completely dismissive of the new wave of British music, saying he kind of liked Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs--although he described Bloc Party as "just appalling"--but he lambasted all of them for a lack of ambition to become the best or biggest band in the world.

Whether or not Oasis can currently claim the mantle of Biggest Band in the World is open to debate, but they're definitely in the top 10, much like the Gallaghers' favorite soccer team, Manchester City, which is currently lying in a very respectable seventh in the English premier league.

The Manchester City link is not entirely spurious because it was a gig in the summer at Manchester City's home ground, the City of Manchester Stadium, that prompted New Musical Express to say Oasis were "a band ready to join the likes of U2 as rock 'n' roll's living custodians, but more importantly, a band with a creative future."

The current tour is one of most extensive Oasis have ever made, and Japanese fans have already had a chance this year to see why tickets for the European and North American concerts were so difficult to find when the group played in Japan at Summer Sonic in August.

The three summer gigs, in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, relied on material from this year's Don't Believe the Truth album, a release that Noel believes is the band's best work since (What's the Story) Morning Glory--though he also said that about Heathen Chemistry three years ago.

This time, though, his opinion was backed up by critical acclaim when it was recently voted Album of the Year by readers of Britain's Q magazine.

At the summer dates, the band also offered up all the usual crowd-pleasers such as "Wonderwall" and, always a favorite in Japan, "Don't Look Back in Anger." In the past, Oasis have covered the Beatles' "I am the Walrus" and a sprawling version can be found on The Masterplan compilation album.

Recently, though, the band have been finishing with the Who's "My Generation," one song that new drummer Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr, should be very familiar with after touring with Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey.

This tour offers a chance to see Oasis on their own at slightly smaller venues at a time when they're back on a creative high, rather than the chemical highs that have reportedly marred previous gigs--though they're probably a long way from taking any vows of abstinence.

And if reports of their last trip are to believed, don't be surprised if you bump into Liam as you're enjoying a Friday night beer in Tokyo's Roppongi or Osaka's Shinsaibashi.

Oasis will play Nov. 17, 7 p.m. at Osakajo Hall in Osaka, (06) 6535-5569; Nov. 20, 6 p.m. and Nov. 21, 7 p.m. at Yoyogi National Stadium in Harajuku, Tokyo, (03) 3444-6751.

Noel Gallagher knows the score

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REGRETS? Noel Gallagher has two. The first is not taking a year off after Oasis played Knebworth in August 1996, the peak of their Supersonic/ Wonderwall golden years.

The 250,000-strong homecoming fulfilled their destiny as saviours of British rock. The inevitable slide into exhaustion and mediocrity effectively began the next morning.

"The second is changing brands of cigarettes," the songwriter says, blowing smoke from his Barcelona hotel window, " 'cause Marlboro Lights are a ladies' fag and it makes me feel less of a man when I spark one up in the morning."

They're minor quibbles, really, 10 years after the infamous Blur versus Oasis comedy made Noel Gallagher rich and famous. His and his brother Liam's sixth album, Don't Believe the Truth, is another bloated wall of distorted guitars and vacuous macho bluster that both signifies and seals his contentment "I meet people in bands and they're obsessed with pushing things forward," he says.

"I just wanna stay the same, which kinda makes me unique, so that'll do me."

Bands like Radiohead and REM and U2 and Coldplay are constantly trying to change who they are, and I wonder if it's because their personal lives are so rock-solid that they need to constantly destroy and re-create in their professional lives."

My personal life is f--kin' chaos, right? Everything outside of my music is falling apart and being re-created on a weekly basis. So I have to have something that's solid as a rock and that is my f--kin' music. Thank f--k for this band, you knowarramean?

"I don't wanna be in the studio going, 'What are we on now? Are we doing reggae or space jazz? Oh, it's the Beatles?' That'll do me, thanks very much, I f--kin' know where I am with that. I'm good at that."

In theory, Oasis are even better at that since Zak Starkey, son of Ringo, became their drummer last year.

Gallagher prefers not to dwell on the dynastic implications. "It might freak me out," he says. "I might wake up from a dream and I'll be in a band with (fashion designer) Stella McCartney instead."

Neither is he inclined to read too much history into his latest choice of album titles. Since Oasis arrived in a snowstorm of British music press hype in 1994, many observers have found the alleged truth of their greatness hard to believe.

On their first visit here in '98, most Australians agreed they were a first-rate media circus with a pretty lame musical score. The same description applies to most British acts that have emerged from the machinery that Oasis set in motion.

The Gallaghers are scathingly dismissive of the latest production line led by Franz Ferdinand. Nor is Noel convinced by England's most absurd new rock hero, the crackaddled former Libertines personality turned Kate Moss handbag, Pete Doherty."

Babyshambles (Doherty's new band) ... it does all smack of the emperor's new clothes at the minute."

They're kinda the opposite of Oasis in a way, in that we were trying to make it big and Babyshambles are trying to make it small."

You gotta make it big. Don't f--kin' make it medium."

In that sense, even Coldplay are OK by Gallagher: "The only rivalry Oasis have with Coldplay is in Liam's head, right? Chris (Martin) is actually a good mate of mine."

Melbourne's favourite rock exports du jour are likewise men after Uncle Noel's heart.

"We did five weeks in the (United) States with Jet," he says, "and I gotta tell you, I love them boys. The bass player threatened to drink every member of Oasis under the table on more than one occasion and would then promptly pass out."

But their new f--kin' record, man, I'm telling you, I am pretty f--kin' amazed by. One tune sounds like the Beach Boys. Not that I like the Beach Boys. I f--kin' hate the Beach Boys - I think Brian Wilson is a cabbage. But we had a great time with them and they are top, top geezers."

Speaking of Blur, the Gallaghers were in the same room as Gorillaz' Damon Albarn at the Q Awards in London last month.

Any 10th-anniversary olive branches exchanged?

"Damon?" Gallagher sighs.

"Bless him. My missus is a Gorillaz fan so she was passing his table and said to him 'Oh, I really like your album'. After, he told someone that we'd sent her over as an emissary to test the waters."

"Now, I like Damon's music. He's made some f--king great tunes. But he's a f--kin' knobhead, man."

Oasis enjoy Sidney and Strokes show

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IT was a case of Britpop meets New York rock when Oasis jetted into Sydney in time to catch up with pals The Strokes on Wednesday.

Once revered as the bad boys of the UK rock'n'roll scene, the Oasis lads made their presence known within hours of hitting town.

The Gallagher brothers – Noel and Liam – and bandmates Andy Bell, Gem and Zak Starkey ignored jetlag and the option of a quiet night in to catch up with their Manhattan counterparts.

Liam watched The Strokes jam-packed performance of their new album, First Impressions Of Earth, from the wings of the Gaelic Club on Wednesday, while Noel and the others watched from a tiny roped-off VIP area upstairs.

After the show both bands, minders and various music industry hangers-on, including celebrity groupie Tom Williams, headed to their city hotel and partied in the bar until the early hours.

Both the Gallagher boys were in fine form, keeping the party-goers giggling, particularly when older brother Noel was directing his sharp wit at his younger sibling.

The pair went their separate ways yesterday with Noel preferring to check out the shops while Liam whiled away the afternoon with a cruise on Sydney harbour, stopping for a frosty ale at Doyle's in Watson's Bay.

Denim fan Noel stocked up on a couple of pairs of duds from the exclusive Nudie Jeans in Paddington, uncharacteristically shunning limos and drivers for a couple of cabs.

The brothers and their band will head to BrisVegas tomorrow, before returning to Sydney to rock out at the Hordern Pavilion on Monday and Tuesday nights.

Why should he? Because you don`t agree with them? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and voicing them is what freedom of speech is all about.

I happen to think he maybe has a point, sure, some of the song s are catchy, for example, I love Kaiser Chiefs "Modern Way" but as a band they are nothing special.
Then again, I don`t think anything from this century can compare to 90`s, when britpop etc was happening, that was the best time to be into british music.

Then again, that`s just my opinion, and surely people will disagree with me, but that doesn`t mean I shouldn`t talk about it does it?

Brotherly 'love' in Brisbane

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE Gallagher brothers are at it again. Arriving in Brisbane yesterday, the front men of Brit-rockers Oasis were at their infamous brawling best.

"We fell out," Liam said, as brother Noel sat sullenly waiting for their tour bus.

"I don't think he wants to be photographed with me. We're not getting along too well. I don't even think he'll get on the bus with me."

The band's guitarist and chief songwriter, Noel, refused to join singer Liam and the rest of the band and travelled on his own to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre for the first show in their national tour.

Brawling and Brisbane are not a new concept for Oasis. In 1998, Liam head-butted and broke a fan's nose outside the Quay West Hotel.

"If you're asking about that lad the last time I was here, if anyone starts it again, they'll get the f------ing same," Liam said, although he happily chatted to fans at the airport.

"They're the best, there is no one else like them," Jared Kranz, 22, of Karana Downs in Brisbane, said. "It was so easy to talk to them, it's brilliant."

The soccer-loving Liam paid tribute to the late George Best and chatted with the Queensland Roar team, who were on the same flight from Sydney.

Last night Oasis played to 6500 fans, storming through their back catalogue and their latest album, Don't Believe the Truth.

Rock's bad boys find oasis of calm. True

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOEL Gallagher looked more Johnny Cash than bad boy of rock in Sydney yesterday.

Dressed in black, the 38-year-old Oasis guitarist had plenty of lip on the eve of their third Australian tour, but he was playing down the Manchester band's notoriety.

Gallagher said the band was more about the music than making headlines.

"I think we were always recognised for our music, first and foremost," he said. "There may have been a few years where the records weren't well received and we got more headlines for some of the things that went on."

Noel and his younger brother Liam have been a fixture on the front pages almost since they released their debut album, Definitely Maybe, in 1994.

Their Australian debut seven years ago was a low point, with Liam arrested for headbutting a fan.

"We weren't in a very good place as a group," Gallagher said of that first visit.

Oasis made amends with Australian fans four years later with an extensive tour that included some small-venue performances and not so much as a finger waved in anger.

This time the band is here on the back of their recent, critically acclaimed album, Don't Believe the Truth, an album "our kid" Liam had a hand in writing. The sibling rivalry is long gone, it seems.

"Our fallouts tend to be more public because we're quite forthright and we don't bullshit people," Gallagher said.

"I'm sure it's the same for Coldplay. I'm sure they don't always get on with each other, but if somebody asks us a question we're quite up-front about it.

"There are only two people in the world who are not fascinated by our relationship, and that's me and him.

"Nobody gives a f..k about it any more. It's not really relevant to what we do. Whatever we might say about each other in the press, it's all done with a very large pinch of salt."

That's not to say the elder brother doesn't regret some of the things he says.

"I'll be reading articles for the next two weeks in Australia going, 'That doesn't look good in print'. But, f..k it, that's the way I am."

Oasis have had a string of hits, including Live Forever, Rock'n'Roll Star and Don't Look Back in Anger. Many of those will be on parade when the tour begins in Brisbane tonight.

"This time it will be special," Gallagher said. "I'll be great, I can guarantee you that."

Back in fine form

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FIERCE loyalty from their fans and matured professionalism from Oasis overcame early technical hiccups during the band's triumphant return to Sydney last night. Manchester brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher and their musical cohorts delivered a stirring set which was more about communal rapture than rock star posturing.

But Liam's hand-on-crotch stance, which he maintained for the length of the concert, was a tad perplexing - as was the tambourine-on-head balancing act.

The band opened with a run of songs from their latest album, Don't Believe The Truth, including Turn Up The Sun and Lyla, during which Liam's microphone appeared not to be working.

After the sound problems, the crowd went from simply enjoying the show to a full scream-along session as Oasis dipped into early hits, including Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova and Live Forever.

The energy did not cease during the brief wait for an encore before Noel delivered the night's highlight.

Cheekily dedicating the song to the Australian cricket, rugby and soccer teams, he started the anthemic Don't Look Back In Anger and the capacity crowd sang the roof off.

Oasis play a second gig at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney tonight.

Oasis set to star in Easter spectacular

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Noel Gallagher RELIGION and rock have never mixed that well, but the BBC is hoping to change all that with a spectacular live televised event in Manchester this Easter.

Manchester Passion will be a huge public spectacle, with streets closed to traffic as a Good Friday procession makes its way through the city centre with the promise of music by major Manchester bands being involved in the parade behind a huge crucifix.

It's the BBC's follow-up to award-winning public opera event Flashmob that caused a stir in London and Sheffield, and will be produced by the same TV team.

TV bosses hope "major artists" will be involved in the contemporary retelling of the last few hours in the life of Jesus - and are targeting the likes of Oasis, New Order, The Hollies and ex-members of 10CC.

Spectacle

"It should be an amazing public spectacle," predicts outgoing BBC3 controller Stuart Murphy.

"We plan to tell the story of the crucifixion in a way that is a lot more modern. It will involve lots of crowds and an enormous cross - and, hopefully, a lot of big names."

The event, to be screened live on Good Friday evening, will mix the words of the Bible with versions of popular songs by Manchester bands from the last 30 years - perhaps the likes of Stone Roses' classic I Am The Ressurrection would be fitting.

Explained a BBC spokeswoman: "The music will be given a vibrant new twist and is performed by the characters in the drama, accompanied by a string band and well-known local musicians. It takes its inspiration from the way Bach and other composers fused music and the Passion story."

The digital channel won a Golden Rose award for Flashmob - The Opera, which staged a contemporary opera on the busy concourse at London's Paddington station in October 2004, including a 62-piece orchestra, choir of singing policemen and chorus of football fans.

A second event was staged last April at the Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield, involving professional performers, local schoolchildren and other members of the community.

The public will be encouraged to join the Manchester procession, which will pass through several streets before ending up in Albert Square.

BBC Commissioning Editor for Arts, Music and Religion Adam Kemp says: "We are excited by the possibility of introducing a new audience to the rich history of the Passion Plays.

"We're looking forward to involving the people of Manchester in this moving live event and hopefully encouraging them to look on familiar songs with fresh eyes."

I love oasis, but I really hate it when they slam other bands publicly. I hate when any band does that. Yea noel, you're in a great band, but dont criticize every other band that you dont happen to like. Keep your opinions to yourself.

Actually, I agree with him about some of the bands. I just dont like it when great bands like oasis start slamming other bands. Its just not a nice thing to do. I'm not saying they should keep all their opinions to theirselves, just the ones that bash other bands for no reason. Its just that most of the things noel and liam bash bands for are unprovoked. What did they do to you noel? Nothing. They can have their opinions, and tell them to everyone, but how would you feel if you were in one of these bands and oasis...freaking oasis was saying you suck. Talk about a blow. Just think about it.

Oasis to topple Madonna from top spot ?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oasis are reportedly outselling Madonna this week and are set to knock ‘Hung Up’ off the top of the charts.

If the Mancunians manage to claim the top spot with ‘Let There Be Love’, it will be their third consecutive number one from ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’.

It would also be their ninth number one putting them on a par with such musical greats as Abba and The Spice Girls.

However, apart from Madge, the Gallaghers have also got the lovely Pussycat Dolls breathing down their necks.

Oasis beats U2, says Noel Gallagher

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OASIS guitarist Noel Gallagher has declared that his band is better than U2 and Coldplay.

And he insists the other bands know it.
"They know that we s--- over them," Gallagher said yesterday on the eve of the British band's sold-out Festival Hall show.

"We've got two guitarists in our band. They've only got two between them. End of story.

"Me, Chris Martin (Coldplay) and Bono (U2) have a friendly rivalry. Not that we're in some celebrity club, but I do talk to them on a regular basis and they know we're the bollocks.

"They were on their hands and knees begging us to play Live8. It wasn't a big enough show for us."

Oasis has had a remarkable comeback this year. Next week its new album Don't Believe the Truth is set to be the band's third consecutive British No. 1 this year with the Noel and Liam Gallagher duet Let There Be Love.

"Coldplay and U2 haven't had three No. 1s in a row," Gallagher joked. "Coldplay haven't had any No. 1s in the UK, actually."

Gallagher scoffed at rumours he's feuding with brother Liam after an incident in Brisbane.

"It's bollocks," Gallagher said. "It's quite preposterous. Things are fine."

Gallagher is a fan of Australia. "I'd move here if it wasn't so far away. It's like America weather-wise, but it's not full of fat idiots," he said.

Oasis's final Melbourne show is at Festival Hall tonight.

Well lets face it, most bands return fire when Oasis start the salgging, simply because they get alot more puplicity when the Gallaghers start flinging the shit around, so don`t feel sorry for them, the more the Gallaghers go on about them, the more people that hate Oasis will give these bands a chance.

I personally think Oasis isn't as great as everyone says. I honestly did try to get into them and listened to them with an open mind, but unfortunately they have only two good songs: Wonderwall and Morning Glory. And they truly are extremely cokcy bastards.....well the two brothers anyway.

Oasis are dead. They've been dead for almost a decade. Even the Rolling Stones have more life in their music right now. And they've been makng music since the Beatles.

Odd that a "dead" band can continue to be putting out number 1 albums and singles in the UK (as well as other parts of the world) I'm curious as to what songs you listened to in order to judge they only have two good songs (especially since Live Forever didn't make your list of two good songs which even most non Oasis fans seem to like) I'm not bashing on your opinion as you're welcome to it and nothing I say is gonna change it. I'm just curious how you came to your decision.

Oasis and Pussycat Dolls are fighting for No.1 spot today, with both on 27K sales, weve already had one injustice this year with the whole crazy frog shananigans, lets not have another, if you haven`t got it already, go buy "Let There Be Love" on any format, it all counts, even the 79p download from here:-

http://www.7digital.com/stores/productDetail.aspx?shop=77&product=20550&sid=263343

Ive just done that, so that means I now have the cd single, DVD, and digital download.
People say the charts don`t matter, and they are right, but for the lads to have 3 No.1 singles back to back from the same album would be amazing, what`s the alternative? Pussy Cat Dolls.

More info on the single here:-

Oasis track crowned best of the year 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Coldplay have cemented their position as Britain's biggest band, with their album X&Y named the best of 2005.

The recording, which went straight to number one in 28 countries and became the second fastest-selling album in British history after its release in June, was given the award by Q magazine.

Runner-up was Demon Days by Gorillaz, the second-album from the cartoon-hip hop group createdby Damon Albarn of Blur.

Kaiser Chiefs were third with their debut album, Employment, which has sold 2.5 million copies since March.

The Leeds g roup exploded onto the music scene this year with the re-release of a demo single-Oh My God, and went on to perform at Glastonbury and Live8 in Philadelphia.

Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson said: "I'm actually dead chuffed. I would have hoped it would have been in there to be honest - which I know sounds arrogant, but then being in a rock band you have to be arrogant, don't you?

"Glastonbury was a big turning point for us - the first show I didn't get nervous at and the first show I really thought we proved ourselves to everyone that we were contenders, a lot more than just eyeliner and blazers."

Fourth place went to Oasis's Don't Believe The Truth, which Q said was "their most vital since the Britpop glory days".

In fifth place was I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning by the little-known American band Bright Eyes. The top female artist in the list of 50 top albums was Scottish newcomer KT Tunstall for Eye To The Telescope.

Meanwhile, the Oasis return to form was confirmed with their single The Importance Of Being Idle at the top of Q's 100 Greatest Tracks Of The Year, which were voted for by the magazine's readers. The song topped the singles charts in August. Coldplay's Fix You was in second place and the Kaiser Chiefs took the third and fourth spots with I Predict A Riot and Oh My God respectively.

Welsh concert will be emotional one

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHEN Oasis take to the stage in Wales on Saturday, there'll be one Welsh voice cheering louder than all the rest - Ebbw Vale-born Marcus Russell, their manager and friend.

The softly-spoken former school teacher, also chief executive of Ebbw Vale RFC, has been managing the band for the past 12 years.

And despite having toured all over the world with the Gallagher brothers, the Noise and Confusion gig at the Millennium Stadium is the one that means the most.

Marcus, 45, said: "It's going to be a big day for everyone.

"Obviously I'm really pleased, coming from South Wales there's no greater venue for the band to play.

"Liam and Noel have been very keen to play at the stadium ever since it became available. This is the first real opportunity they've had to do it, the first time it has fit in with our touring schedule.

"It's great for them because it's fulfilling an ambition.

"They have never been in the stadium before. Everyone knows they're huge football fans but they've never even caught a game at Cardiff so this will be something incredibly special.

"People who've been there keep telling them the atmosphere and noise in there, with the roof on, is incredible. It'll be an emotional, fantastic night."

Marcus played a pivotal role in Oasis conquering both the UK and America.

But despite his globetrotting - he boards almost as many planes for far-off destinations as Liam and Noel now - his heart remains in Wales.

Speaking from Australia as the Gallaghers left the stage in Melbourne this week, he said: "I was actually at the stadium for the Wales v Australia game last weekend, just before flying to Australia to join the boys on tour.

"I've lost count of the number of games I've seen at the stadium but, strangely enough, I've never seen a concert there so next weekend will be a new experience for me too.

"I'm back and fore to Wales a lot because my family are still here. I probably make it back around twice a month."

In an amazing comeback year, Oasis have played 77 sell-out gigs around the world - from the UK, to Europe, Japan, America and Australia.

Their album, Don't Believe The Truth, which went straight to number one in the UK and Japan when it was released at the end of May, has already spawned two number one singles in the form of Lyla and The Importance Of Being Idle.

And with Scottish and Irish sell-out gigs taking them right up until December 22, a European tour planned for January and February next year, and Let There Be Love looking set to chart high in the singles chart this week, it seems there's no rest for Oasis or Marcus.

He says: "I think you can safely say 2005 is the best year we've ever had. We're just loving it. It has been a very successful year. The boys have a very good work ethic. They're still working hard."

So are the once-brawling brothers now all grown up?

"Yes. And I'm sure their families will be in Cardiff next weekend to support them.

"I think, if anything, they appreciate what they have got and where they are, as artists and individuals, now more than ever.

"And they definitely appreciate the fans. So getting out there and performing has been excellent."

As for Marcus, music has been a part of his life from his early teens, when he remembers his brother bringing home Rolling Stones singles.

He first left Ebbw Vale in 1975 to study education at Middlesex Polytechnic. While there he promoted several punk bands and even staged a show for the Sex Pistols.

When he finished college he settled with his wife in Essex, where he took up a teaching job. But when they split years later, disillusioned with teaching, he drifted into management with Eighties hopefuls Latin Quarter.

When the Smiths split in 1987 he managed guitarist Johnny Marr. And then he saw Oasis.

But his monumental success doesn't mean he's neglected Wales' music industry.

He said: "Oasis recorded their first two albums in Wales. The massive album, What's The Story, Morning Glory? was recorded at Rockfield and we've recorded at Caerleon and Monnow. But the boys have not been back to Wales since then.

"In January and February we are touring Europe and the band have invited the Stereophonics to tour with them. They've never played with them before so that looks set to be a great tour.

"The Super Furry Animals have also been with us for the big UK stadium gigs we did back in June.

"And there was a good relationship with the Manic Street Preachers.

"I don't think it's a conscious decision to keep the Wales connection but over the years everyone gets to know each other. Plus, you know, there are good bands in Wales and all of those who become successful deserve a place on the big stage.

Noel pays tribute to Best

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OASIS star Noel Gallagher has paid George Best the ultimate compliment - saying the soccer legend was cool enough to be in the band.

Guitarist Noel, 38, said: "Georgie transcended football. He was called the fifth Beatle and he looked cool as f***.

"He owned a nightclub and a clothes shop, drove a Ferrari and he shagged Miss World."

Asked whether George was cool enough to be in Oasis, Noel replied: "The only thing he didn't do in his life that was cool was play music, and he probably would have been good at that, too."

Noel - a staunch Manchester City supporter - became pals with George after meeting at a charity function. They remained in contact after the Manchester United icon was diagnosed with liver disease.

Noel and his ex-wife Meg Mathews sent flowers in 2000 when George was taken to hospital for tests on his liver. He later had a transplant.

Noel missed George's Belfast funeral on Saturday due to tour commitments in Australia.

I don't know. Oasis are definitely the kind of band I would like. I heard live forever, cigarettes and alcohol, stand by me, the importance of being idle, lyla, rock and roll star, and a few others. But none of them I really liked that much aside from the other two. It all sounds really hazy and annoying. But I guess if you guys can see beyond all that, maybe they do have some talent. But in my opinion, they're really overrated and if anything, their sophomore album was somewhat of a fluke.

Oasis rock Millennium stadium

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Millennium Stadium was full of attitude on Saturday afternoon - Liam Gallagher-style.

Thousands crammed into Wales' largest venue to see Oasis, who were due on stage shortly after 2100 GMT.

Fans who had travelled from across the UK paid homage to frontman Liam, with many sporting his trademark parka coat.

Some even walked like him, adopting that unmistakeable swagger, while some others shook tambourines - Liam's instrument of choice when on stage.

By 1600 GMT, the stadium's pitch was a sea of faces and most of the seats in the stand had been taken up.

Before Oasis though, the crowd was treated to several other top acts.

The Foo Fighters were sensational, and worked the crowd up into a frenzy, performing some of their latest hits in a memorable set.

Razorlight and the Coral didn't disappoint either, but everyone at the Millennium Stadium's Noise and Confusion gig had come to see the headlining act, Oasis.

The band has enjoyed a revival as an act once again to be reckoned with after the launch of their latest album, Don't Believe the Truth.

But ironically the fans who packed in to watch roared most when Oasis played tracks from the Britpop era.

Live Forever, Cigarettes and Alcohol, which Liam Gallagher dedicated to the memory of George Best, Wonderwall and of course Don't Look Back in Anger, were hugely appreciated by the crowd of 68,500.

However one of the loudest cheers of ther night was reserved for a little-known B-side, Masterplan.

Oddly though, there was no mention of the Gallager's idol John Lennon, just days after the 25th anniverveary of the ex-Beatles' death.

Oasis' set ended with The Who's My Generation, and then suddenly they were gone, leaving with a tongue-in-cheek remark that they'd be in Cardiff's Whispers nightclub later "if you want to join us".

Noel reveals Kasabian's toy cure

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OASIS guitarist/singer NOEL GALLAGHER was amazed when he heard the temporary cure for fellow British rocker TOM MEIGHAN's attention deficit disorder (ADD) - a visit to toy store Toys 'R' Us.

Gallagher toured the United States with the KASABIAN rocker and his bandmates earlier this year (05) and was taken aback by Meighan's behaviour when he would start to merge his sentences into one long monologue.

He says, "He is mental. And when he gets too mad, they have to take him to a toy shop to calm him down... I don't know whether I'm supposed to say that. He can hold 20 conversations at the same time.

"He was in our dressing room one afternoon, and he's drinking a pint of vodka and Red Bull, and this is before the soundcheck, and in literally one sentence he's going, 'Have you got any f**king Red Bull? Look at that lighter! F**king hell, four for a pound! D'you smoke Marlboro Lights? Birds' fags!'

"And apparently whenever he gets like that and he's too mad, they have to take him to Toys 'R' Us. The last time I actually laid eyes on him, he was in our hotel, he was in LIAM's (GALLAGHER) room, but management were s**tting themselves.

"Somebody turned up, put him in a cab to take him to Toys 'R' Us in Times Square, calm him down, because of all the flashing lights and he plays with the toys and then he's alright. That's f**king genius, man!"

Noel's interview with The Bangkok Post

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's the story?

Noel Gallagher, the Oasis guitarist/singer/songwriter, talks about the new album, what he thinks of new music these days and the upcoming gig in Bangkok

Noel Gallagher was right on the dot. Despite being in the midst of the Oasis Australian tour, the senior Gallagher managed to find time to place a call the minute that his label said he would. To make matters more intriguing, one half of the notoriously thugish pair of siblings did not swear once except at the mention of the new disco punk darlings, Bloc Party.

Why the big fuss over a punctual, polite musician, you may wonder. Isn't it the norm? No, not when it's Noel Gallagher, who, together with his brother Liam and their band Oasis, were swept along with the Brit Pop craze and were introduced to the world with their 1994 now classic debut album, Definitely Maybe.

This is a man whose constant, public feuds with everyone from the press to his own brother earned him more tabloid space and reputation than he cares to remember. This is a man who often litters his speech with ``fooking'' (a bit of Manchester accent there) and ``c***s''.

Maybe the mood has been lifted because Oasis had such a phenomenal gig in Melbourne two nights ago.

``I've got good days and bad days,'' said Gallagher, on the subject of being on the road. ``Some days I love it. Some days I wish I were home, but that's kind of the same for any artist, I think.''

Australia might not be the only place that will elevate Gallagher's spirits _ the band are booked as one of the headliners of an upcoming international rock festival to be held in Bangkok in February next year, which would be the second time that Oasis have played on these shores.

``Be patient. We will be with you next year,'' said Gallagher, in confirmation.

That's where Oasis are these days _ touring the world. They are no longer Brit Pop royalty, trading acidic barbs with Blur on a regular basis or even appearing too often in the tabloids, bruised and hammered. They are indeed one of the few who survived the abysmal end of the Brit Pop era in the mid-'90s, along with Blur. Oasis now play stadiums worldwide and dub themselves as ``the best band in the world''.

This ``best band in the world'' has come a long way. Formed by a group of Mancunian schoolmates Liam Gallagher (vocals), Paul ``Bonehead'' Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass) and Tony McCaroll (drums), brother Noel later joined the group upon his return home after a stint as the Inspiral Carpets' roadie. The band forced themselves and their demo onto the Creation Record head honcho Alan McGee, who, of course, signed them. The first single, Supersonic, released in 1994, paved the way for the rest of the Oasis saga.

They were hailed as one of the most exciting rock acts ever with the original line-up (former guitarist Bonehead now works with Sek Loso) during the height of Definitely Maybe and 1995's (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. They were helped by their true Brit lyrics, swelling guitars, anti-metrosexual poses and Liam's still intact sneer.

Even so, they have suffered since then from less than flattering reviews of their other studio albums, the last being Heathen Chemistry in 2002. Oasis have also suffered at the hands of critics who view the band as stagnant in terms of sonic development, but Gallagher does not seem to be concerned.

``We make Oasis music. We don't make any particular kind of music, you know what I mean? I don't think we've grown much as a band. And in 10 years' time, I think we'll be pretty much the same as we are now really, except we'll be old with grey hair and fatty bottoms.''

Their latest album, Don't Believe the Truth, released earlier this year, seems to be salvaging the band's reputation from being has-beens. It took three years to produce the album, one major overhaul where everything was scraped, and one fired-up pair of electronica wizards, Death in Vegas, to produce.

Gallagher concedes that the line-up is now better than ever with Andy Bell, the former member of Ride and the founder of Hurricane #1, on bass, and Gem Archer, the ex-guitarist of Heavy Stereo, on rhythm guitar. And after the departure of Alan White, Oasis got a bit of help from Zak Starkey (son of the Beatles' drummer Ringo Starr) whom critics said was the best drummer Oasis ever had.

``It makes it a lot easier to record music because everybody has fairly good ideas, not just for songs, but for parts of the songs as well,'' he said.

Don't Believe the Truth also sees the older Gallagher giving up his role as sole composer. Liam wrote three songs, the most he has ever contributed to one album, while Bell and Archer contributed two and one respectively. Surprisingly, Gallagher is not overly concerned that the writing torch is being passed around.

``My input is diminishing slightly, but I don't mind that as long as the record's still great. I can concentrate on the good songs that I've written, instead of trying to write a full album. And I much prefer it this way than the old way, where I was writing everything. It does tend to slow things down a little bit but I think that for the most part, it [turned out to be] for the better, so I'm pretty pleased,'' he said.

Gallagher senior, however, was still the one who selected which songs went onto the album.

``I suppose I'm the oldest, so I get to choose,'' he quipped, adding that he believed fellow band members trusted his ear.

``I just choose the ones that I think are the best and everyone seems to agree with me. I think I know a good song when I hear one, because I've been doing it for long enough.''

There was a rumour that super prolific Oasis wrote over 100 songs for this album _ which is actually not far from the truth.

``We wrote 66 songs for this album and we chose 11, so we got 55 left,'' Gallagher said. ``About 44 are not very good. So I think we got enough material for another record.''

The first single from this album, Lyla, went straight to No. 1 in the UK and many countries in Europe and quickly became a mass chant-along at recent Oasis gigs.

``It's about a girl who's like Cinderella,'' Gallagher said. ``But of course, Cinderella won't be a very good name for a song.''

Their second single, The Importance of Being Idle, is probably the most Oasis-sounding track on the album and won the Best Single of the Year Award from Q magazine. The latest single, Let There Be Love, is being claimed as a defining moment in the band's history. ``It's the oldest song on the album. It was written about seven years ago and it's only just finished off prior to the beginning of the recording of this album. It's a very special song. It's very beautiful.''

Cited as an influence on many new UK bands, and, at the same time, dubbed outdated and irrelevant, Gallagher is not all that enthusiastic about the music scene these days.

``It's nothing more than okay,'' he said. ``I don't think there's been a great album release for a few years now. I don't think bands are very concerned about making it big any more. I don't understand a lot of music these days.''

He does not hold a high opinion of Bloc Party, one of the most hyped new bands this year. Mention of them actually unleashed a few of the swear words for which he is famed.

For him, the last great album was Parachutes, the debut album by Coldplay. So it's probably not a surprise that Chris Martin has said how Coldplay were influenced by Definitely Maybe.

``I feel flattered,'' Gallagher said. ``I've got to say I don't hear it in the music, but that's cool because I like Coldplay a lot.''

So if a lot of new music is terrible, what's been playing on Noel Gallagher's stereo then? ``I listen to Kasabian a lot. I listen to the Coral a lot. I also listen to Bob Dylan, the Velvet Underground and the Beatles a lot,'' he said.

For their next UK tour, Oasis will be supported by Shack, a band that Gallagher believes to be an ``absolute f***ing legend''. He has just signed them to his label and they will be putting out a record by 2007 at the latest.

Gallagher has two record labels, but refuses to call himself a businessman. Rather, he describes himself as `` an ideas man''.

``Somebody else takes care of the business. I just come up with some fantastic ideas for music and bands,'' he said.

Before wrapping up the interview, one question had to be asked: Does Gallagher truly believe that Oasis is the best band in the world?

``I think we are the best band in my world,'' he said.

And for the 2005 Noel Gallagher, that seems to be enough.

Oasis at Glasgow's SECC

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now these guys know what they're doing, and so they should. In addition to the fact they have been performing worldwide now for more than 10 years, they still have the barefaced arrogance to put on a remarkably impressive show.

Amid the aeroplane hangar-like surroundings of Glasgow's SECC and a 10,000-strong crowd, Liam Gallagher stands, flanked to the left by Andy Bell and Gem Archer with brother Noel holding up on the left, motionless, staring into the lights, chin aloft. And this, it would appear, is all he needs to do in order to get the beer-soaked mob jumping to the bass and pointing fingers in mid-air.

The band's ingenuity is faultless as they swagger through a set of their latest material from last summer's hit album, Don't Believe the Truth – Lyla, Mucky Fingers and Turn Up The Sun – and the ever popular classics, Masterplan and Champagne Supernova. Even Kate Moss gets a dedication in the form of (What's the Story) Morning Glory. The urgent strains of Liam are lucidly complemented by the more dreamily introverted tones of Noel, a reticent reminder of these brothers' original inspiration, Lennon and McCartney.

This year Oasis have achieved the No 1 spot twice as press and public alike heralded a return to their Definitely Maybe form. In fact, Oasis have ebbed and flowed through the past decade, evolving and adapting. Now it is a mixed crowd that pours through the doors to see them; from those who were there for Supersonic first time round to a freshly excited younger generation of moochy teenagers. Their reason for still successfully existing remains as clear as it was when they were first spotted in Glasgow, 12 years ago. Perhaps their rock'n'roll will indeed Live Forever.

A different class. Oasis & Coldplay

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's the Nineties versus the Noughties as both of Britain's biggest stadium acts take to the road. But will Coldplay be as happy as Oasis to tread the path of crowd-pleasing familiarity?

Oasis
Exhibition & Conference Centre, Aberdeen

Coldplay
Earls Court, London SW5

Oasis and Coldplay released their latest albums within seven days of each other; they end the year with a tour that finds them performing within seven days of each other.

Monday night in Aberdeen and 8,000 fans wait impatiently for Oasis. Some are survivors from the Nineties but the veterans from the Britpop wars are easily outnumbered by those for whom the Oasis versus Blur rivalry is as much part of ancient history as a Conservative government.

When they emerged Oasis were a swaggering response to the self-indulgent whining of grunge. Kurt Cobain loathed celebrity but the Gallagher brothers gave every impression of relishing their fame. Two classic albums, however, were followed by successive disappointments. By the time they headlined Glastonbury last year they were a letdown.

With Don't Believe the Truth some of the fire has returned. They begin with 'Turn up the Sun' which is greeted with delirium. From the opening number onwards every song is welcomed with an eardrum-perforating roar. New songs 'Lyla' and 'Mucky Fingers' are welcomed almost as enthusiastically as older favourites 'Live Forever', 'Champagne Supernova' and 'Cigarettes and Alcohol'.

Liam Gallagher, sporting startling mutton chops and a pin-striped jacket, remains compelling while behind him Zak Starkey, Andy Bell and Gem Archer give understated but powerful support. Noel takes lead vocals on 'The Masterplan'. It is hard not to be moved by these songs which form the soundtrack to my generation. Rather fittingly they close the show with a cover of The Who's 'My Generation'.

Based on tonight's performance Oasis can still deliver what their fans desire: unvarnished anthems, free of self-doubt and which sound instantly familiar on first listen. But there is nothing that feels surprising or unpredictable. The latest album freely borrows from the Beatles as well as the Stranglers, the Kinks and the Velvet Underground, but what made those acts great was their willingness to innovate. Damon Albarn, the Gallaghers' Nineties nemesis, has spent the past decade doing just that with his Mali Music project and the Gorillaz albums but Oasis appear unwilling or unable to stretch themselves or their audience. For all their working-class roots, Oasis in 2005 are an essentially conservative outfit trading on past (morning) glories.

A decade on from Britpop and the group's current public school educated opponents take the stage of London's Earls Court for the first of three sold-out shows. This year Coldplay vaulted into the stellar league. Despite a difficult gestation X&Y was a worldwide hit; the band produced a stunning set at Glastonbury, won Best Act in the World at the Q awards (where Liam described Chris Martin as a 'plant pot') and played a prominent role in the Make Poverty History campaign. Once dismissed as 'music for bedwetters', they are ending the year in triumph.

The show opens with a giant digital clock counting down; silhouetted against it stands Chris Martin while the opening bars of 'Square One' ring out. The song is quintessential Coldplay: music influenced by Pink Floyd and Radiohead and lyrics that are possibly profound or a load of windy tosh. 'Is there anybody out there who/ Is lost and hurt and lonely too?' sings Martin as the crowd is bathed in green, red and blue light.

When not hunched in front of the keyboard Martin is bounding from one side of the stage to the other, not so much throwing rock star shapes as performing onstage yoga. During 'Politik' the background screens are filled with billowing flames of red and orange; for 'Yellow' dozens of huge yellow balloons magically appear and float above the audience.

If Oasis appeal to the bladdered, Coldplay's music speaks to the bewildered; like a male Dido, Chris Martin makes polite music for the faintly puzzled. His lyrics are spiritual, sort of; restless and yearning, vaguely. They come framed inside huge chiming, tremulous guitars, which is as close as their sound gets to having (the) Edge, insistent skeletal piano melodies and occasionally some fierce drumming. When it works as on 'God Put a Smile on Your Face' it creates an intricate, claustrophobic aural backdrop to Chris Martin's possibly meaningful words.

After a pulsating 'White Shadows' and 'The Scientist' come two songs dedicated to Johnny Cash: a moving 'Til Kingdom Come' and a cover of 'Ring of Fire' which does not quite come off. Chris Martin conveys little sense of having known true hurt; famously married to Gwyneth Paltrow (they already have one child, Apple, and with the news that Paltrow is pregnant look set to have a pair), he manfully tries to remain self-deprecating, giving the impression of not quite being able to believe that the assembled thousands are there to see him and his band. Having thanked those sitting at the very back of the vast Earls Court, he goes further and runs the length of the arena to be closer to them. A wistful and fragile 'Swallowed in the Sea' is followed by 'In My Place' and the inevitable 'Fix You' which has become Coldplay's 'Imagine'.

They might be easy to hate but Coldplay's rootless, doubt-filled ruminations reflect the Zeitgeist as surely as Oasis's cocksure anthems for the Loaded generation did a decade ago. It has been unquestionably their year but the challenge is how to ensure that when fashion changes they are not left stranded. Let's hope that in 10 years' time they don't look back in anger.

The importance of being vital

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oasis, SECC, Glasgow fourstar

Even less partial observers would assess the last 12 months of Oasis's career and deduce that 2005 was the year they got their groove back, snatching victory from the jaws of a career seemingly growing ever more stagnant.

Very little of the blame for their gradual decline since the era-defining gigs at Knebworth Park in 1996 can be laid at the door of the band, although the meteoric rise that took them there in the first place can't have helped. The two years previous to these shows saw the Gallagher brothers rapidly ascend from mouthpieces of a nominally talked-about new band on an independent label to popular national figureheads.

They were boastful, confident and as in love with their own opinions as they were with the aspirational excitement of rock'n'roll music, and many felt that they should have embodied the shock of the old-made-new only as long as it took their first two albums, Definitely Maybe and (What's The Story) Morning Glory, to wake British music from the self-reverential torpor it lay in at the time, before imploding like their less often cited heroes, the Sex Pistols.

Yet here they still are, and the best part of nine years spent working hard and just barely staying on their feet, like old barroom sluggers, seems to be paying off. As even the most fevered, vocal and easily-pleased fan may admit to themselves, the fire was going out. And now, by ceasing vainly to fan it and instead accepting their new, less vital place in the world - like other credible survivors such as U2 or New Order - they've managed to keep it crackling along.

As this gig bears testimony, the old formula hasn't required much amending. Liam - still youthfully handsome-featured and sporting a suave safari coat and impressive sideburns - possesses a rare kind of rock-star magnetism that's attractive and repulsive at the same time. He's familiar enough that the whole audience can s****** along with his dedication of the drug-referencing "Morning Glory" ("all your dreams are made/ when you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade") to Kate Moss, yet he's also dismissive enough to risk offending a more genteel crowd with the farewell: "Merry Christmas, you fuckers, this is the last one." Naturally, Oasis's traditional fanbase care not for niceties, and roar their brusque hero on.

Noel, for his part, still plays the eternally affable big-brother figure, although the once-dictatorial guitarist is now allegedly part of a cooperative with fellow musicians Andy Bell, Gem Archer and Zak Starkey (the drummer, and the son of Ringo Starr). Yet it's telling that "Lyla" and "The Importance of Being Idle", the two consecutively chart-topping singles that have restored the band's pride this year, were still written by him.

The versions of old favourites such as "Cigarettes and Alcohol", "Live Forever" and "Wonderwall" that many fans doubtless attend for are present and correct, nostalgia-tinged yet delivered with commendable passion. Yet what's most pleasing about the show - probably for Noel as much as anyone, a man who knows too much about the workings of rock'n'roll to settle for becoming his own tribute act - is how much the strident and energetic new songs like "Turn Up The Sun" and "A Bell Will Ring" give these classics new life.

For too long, aside from the odd decent single, a contemporary song in Oasis's set has been a cue to head for the bar, or to take a breather and wait to join in with the polite applause at the end. But now, when, for example, "The Meaning Of Soul" pounds into life, an enlivened crowd give it their full attention - a crowd, it's worth pointing out, not just made up of late-twenty- and thirtysomething nostalgia seekers, but teenagers who are just starting to buy into the excitement that Oasis have only recently begun to represent once more.

For Oasis, it'll be, doubtless, a happier New Year than they've seen in a while.

Noel looking forward to break

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOEL GALLAGHER is looking forward to some time off when the current OASIS tour is over, because he'll be sick to death of his bandmates and crew.

The LYLA hitmaker, who will have toured for nine months when his band plays their final gig, openly admits he will be desperate to get away from all involved with the tour, including his younger brother LIAM.

He says, "We finish touring next March in Mexico City. By the time it gets to that I'll be f**king sick of it and everybody in it.

"I'll be f**king sick of Liam and GEM and ANDY and everyone, sick of the songs, sick of singing THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING IDLE every night and it'll be like, 'Right. I'm off on holiday for six months!'"

Oasis greatest hits album next ?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next Oasis album is expected to be a Greatest Hits collection, Noel Gallagher has confirmed.

The Oasis songwriter has confirmed the group have completed their contract with Sony and have no plans to sign a new one, potentially opening the door for the compilation.

Gallagher has admitted to being unhappy at the prospect of the album, calling it "a scam" and saying the band would rather wait until they've split up.

He explained: "We've come to the end of our contract with Sony. We won't sign with them again. I'm worried they'll cash in and release a best-of.

"I've always said we'd never do one until we'd split. I think they're going to force our hand. I really wouldn't want to do one, but if they put one out we'll have to get involved otherwise it'll be s*it."

He concluded: "I hope we don't do one. It's all a scam. You should put one out only when you're finished - in chronological order. But I have a feeling they'll do the dirty on us."
