I dont mean literally like the Backstreet boys, but they certainly look jazzed up to the pop world. And not in the cool pop of the 90's, some unwanted trash.

its a very generic oasis song- sort of oasis by numbers-....its alright but i just dont think it shows a lot of progression or anything! It just sounds a bit like they're trying to recapture what they had 10 years ago or whatever but everyone has moved on. I think that during the time of the whole oasis v blur thing that oasis WERE the better band, but in the long run Blur are so so so much better than oasis ever will be....

It's the classic oasis formula. If it ain't broke why fix it? It's working for them, it has been for a decade.

Maybe......i guess they're still selling out knebworth and stuff so of course theyre still successful and i'm actually going to see them this summer! i guess i'm just disappointed coz when theyve said its the best stuff since morning glory i didnt take that to mean that the single would sound like an album track from it u know?! It would just be interesting if they tried more of a new sound coz with ppl like kaiser chiefs etc around sounding original, why would ppl want to listen to stuff that sounds like its from 10 years ago when they could actually just listen to Morning Glory?

face it- coldplay is a dying band. chris has run out of creative avenues and gwyneth is the new yoko.
I saw Coldplay at a secret gig 3 days ago, and I can assure you... Their star is still rising, and hasn't reached its peak by a long shot.
The new material is brilliant.

That is soooo true! Ive never thought of Blur being better than Oasis, but at least Blur have had a significant progression.
Once again, brilliant post! (If it seems like Im sucking up a little, then Im not sucking up enough)
It's the classic oasis formula. If it ain't broke why fix it? It's working for them, it has been for a decade.
It WORKS because it worked in the first place, thats why they got so incredibly popular. In truth, if a new band (Lets say The Kaiser Chiefs) released a song like "Lyla", nobody would give a toss and the band would be unsuccessful. Its no longer a workable formulae.
Oasis have built up a big fanbase from yeaars ago, but now that fanbase is getting thinner and thinner (The US doesnt even care anymore, it just seems like their 'worldwide HUGE' over here in the UK- they arent). This new song is going to lead to a further drop in popularity, since its been released as a video like a good few days ago, Ive rarely seen Lyla on. Ive seen Morning Glory and Shes Electric come back, but not Lyla. And thats an early sign of how a singles going to do.
If they DARED to be different they'd still have a fanbase no-matter what. I mean, if they tried something progressive they could become REALLY POPULAR and adored again, or they could get the same reaction they're going to get for this bland piece of crap.

Try living in Australia where no one comes down!
Though Coldplay did come down a few years ago... 2003 I think it was... and I wasn't "old enough" (according to my parents) to go to any gigs.
I've ranted enough to my friends, so I guess I'll stop rambling.

Let There Be Love is VERY beatlesy indeed. i've had this song a while, noel AND liam sing on it. Liams voice sounds alright, it seems better than the previous album vocals. it's kind of 'Hey Judey' the way they bring it back in

I've heard the old demo of 'Let There Be Love' from the Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants recording sessions, with just Noel singing.
That version was simply beautiful, so I'll be interested to see how the final version pans out, especially if both of them sing.

my thoughts...
Keep The Dream Alive - not bad. Lyrics are a tad predictable and the solo's a bit boring, but the melody's pretty good.
Let There Be Love - I like what they've done with this. The Hey Jude-esque arrangement is impressive. The original lyrics were much better, but these ones are pretty good anyway. Liam sounds brilliant.
The Meaning Of Soul - Boring as fuck. Reminds me of 'Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is' or 'I Can See A Liar'.
Mucky Fingers - Repetitive as hell but not all that bad. Noel's vocal sounds alright.
On the whole, it's too over-produced. Too 'sparkly' and 'poppy', whereas it needs to be raw like Definitely Maybe or Morning Glory. But these songs show there still might be hope yet...

Not being a huge Oasis fan for 8 years from now, Be here Now was pretty awful and so on...
But the leaked tracks and the little fragments out of the nme shows this is going to be a totally different thing.
I was simply stunned by "The Importance Of Being Idle". I could never imagine Noel Gallagher doing such a great song, it's even better than the old stuff.
Le There Be Love & Keep the Dream are quite predictable, but indeed good tunes. There's not much music nowdays at this high standars if you know what i mean.
I got special interest in Mucky fingers, not sounding a bit like Oasis, but like the velvet underground with really un-oasis lyrics too. Bet NME to trash it for the evidence of plagiarism, but i enjoy the elder brother voice in this one.
And Liam Moonckyman's 'Love is a Bomb' is not bad too, brings me back the best Beatles w/o the boredom of previous efforts, it's fresher and quite good.
What happen to the Gallaghers, did they take vitamins or what?

i've heard the rest of the songs from the album now, and i actually think it will do well. A lot better than Heathen Chemistry, and it deserves too aswell! Liam has a song that is really unexpected from him, at least by me anyway. kind of sounded like the Doves as soon as i heard it. I'm glad Noel [and the rest] seem to be getting out of the old habbits a little more...i'd really like to see them go on and make a few more decent albums now :)

Let There Be Love is a great song.
It would have been better if they'd used the lyrics from the original demo instead, cos they're much better in my opinion... But these new ones aren't too bad anyway.

my initial ratings:
1. Turn Up The Sun - 7/10
2. Mucky Fingers - 7/10
3. Lyla - 3/10
4. Love Like A Bomb - 6/10
5. The Importance Of Being Idle - 6/10
6. The Meaning Of Soul - 4/10
7. Guess God Thinks I'm Abel - 6/10
8. Part Of The Queue - 7/10
9. Keep The Dream Alive - 8/10
10. A Bell Will Ring - 9/10
11. Let There Be Love 10/10
The first two are pretty good, and the last three are brilliant, but the rest is a bit samey and dull. And just like Heathen Chemistry, the production is too "sparkly" and "poppy".
If you're hoping for classic Oasis, like I was, then you will be disappointed. It's not that bad, but it could have been so much better.
Overall: 7/10
I'll still buy it though, just so I've got all of their albums. And who knows, it just might grow on me.

Its a fantastic album, I think Keep The Dream Alive and Importance Of Being Idle are my favourites...both 10/10 and the bonus track I Can See You Now is a stunning track aswell...Mucky Fingers isn't great to be honest...im interested to see what X & Y will sound like as I think speed of sound is totally over-rated...ive heard Talk aswell not too impressed either...hopefully the rest will make up for them.

OK, I know there are a few threads out there, but I didn't see one on their new album. I find it to absolutly amazing. I don't have any of their old stuff, but just from what I've heard on this new one they are definetly a group I want to hear more of. I don't own any of their old stuff, but I think I will soon. How do you all feel their older albums compare to the new one?

Gallagher was also absent from Geldof's Band Aid 20 single. 'We were in LA recording the new album. But there were lots of people in there we have a problem with.' He elaborated: 'The Darkness. Keane. I like Bono. He's a friend of mine. I like Chris Martin [Coldplay]. He's a friend of mine. Probably everyone else... I could pick an argument with them.'[highlight=red:1e14caad66][/highlight:1e14caad66]

The Darkness were only ever a "flavour of the month", candyfloss band - no longevity at all. I never liked them. Justin sounds like a cat on heat, and he lost a lot of credibility when he tried to nab Bono's part in the Band Aid 20 song.
And Oasis were wise to avoid Band Aid 20 - it was awful. :smug:

they are ok but extremely overated! most of there music sounds the same and needs touching up, they need to change there style a bit or at least vary it and STOP BEING SO COCKY!!!
Nah, mate, if anyones overrated it is Coldplay, in my opnion Oasis don`t get enough credit.
cudnt agree more coldplay are enjoying wat oasis had after morning glory era n before be here now where watever they do is great but sooner or later the press will turn on them like they did oasis
and as for oasis being cocky, they aint cocky, its self belief n thts wat got them to be the biggest band in the world in the 90s n made them greatest of the past 20yrs at least
bands like oasis dont suddenly lose it theyre always great n i hav no doubt that oasis the most important band in british music since the beatles
oasis are my fav band of all time bt coldplay arent bad either :P

Oasis are my favourite album,
two perfect, timeless albums in Def Maybe & (WTS)Morning Glory?
Be Here Now fuckin rocks! and I don't care what anyone says otherwise
The Masterplan is some album, title track, swamp song, acquises, half the world away etc all classic, and these are the b-sides!
I'm not a big fan of Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants, really only like Gas Panic, Fucking in the Bushes and Go Let it Out.
Heathen Chemistry was much better, being more consistant but lacked the earlier "mad forit" attitude.
The latest album is as close as the first to albums as we will probaly get, but still doesn't hold anything on them. great songs on it and the rock and roll is back with turn up the sun, lyla, meaning of soul and mucky fingers and the lighter in the air anthem Let there Be Love
They also put on a great show and people put them down too easily. Plus I'm going to see them in 18 days!! :) :smug:  :drummer:

Anyone else at this gig.
AMAZING
the crowd, the weather, the band everything was brilliant
zack is an awsome drummer, for live forever it was just hime and the crowd for the first verse, Mega!
Morning Glory, Champagne Supernova, Dont Look back in Anger, Meaning of Soul, Acquises, RnR star and My Generation were my highlights
Liam dedicated (?) songbird to boyzone or somethin'
anyway whole gig was fab, anybody have pics or clips/audio of the gig?
i'll post a couple up when they're ready

I live beside the Park and heard it all. It sounded really good. Wonderwall
I love Oasis. (What's The Story) Morning Glory? is a perfect album. All of the songs are just great, but Champagne Supernova is the best one. Definitely Maybe is a perfect album too, but still I prefer WTSMG. And I think Be Here Now rocks too! The songs are pretty long though, but it doesn't matter to me. I like Standing On A Shoulder of Giants too, but I can only say it's a 'good' album. Heathen Chemistry, well I don't like it very much.. there are few good songs, but I think it's the worst Oasis album. Don't Believe The Truth is really good! It's the best Oasis album since (What's The Story) Morning Glory?. The Masterplan is awesome. I don't understand why some of the songs are not on the albums, they're just so good! For example Acquiesce, The Masterplan and Rockin' Chair (and many others too). I want to see them some day live.. let's hope that they come to Finland. They've been here once, some summer festival, but when they were here, I didn't know anything about Oasis in those days. :/

the new single is very good. not typical oasis but a more rockin' tune. i didn't care for the video. for some reason ...it wasn't what i figured it would be....! hopefully for their next video (most likely "Let There Be Love") it'll be a little bit better thought out!

I think sometimes they can be a little overrated, but in saying that I think that sometimes Coldplay can be too....don't get me wrong I love Coldplay and have a liking for Oasis but I wish the media would just let the music speak for itself rather than focussing on the Gallaghers or Chris (a large majority of people not even interested in the music can name the Gallaghers and know Chris Martin is the lead singer of Coldplay but can they name the rest of either band? Or indeed know how many other members there actually are in the bands?) both bands last albums had SO much hype in the press and I know it's always gonna happen with big bands such as these too but I wish it'd just ease up a bit, lots of people expect for the albums to be either the most amazing one they've released OR the rubbish one which is nothing of what they once were...why not just wait and give the album a listen through just as if you've never heard the band before, thats what I try to do so no judgement can be passed through media persona's or high/low expectations.
**breathes out** Sorry, rant over!
Btw I'm seriously not attacking either band, its just my opinion above...I'm a huge fan of Coldplay and, even though I admit I've not heard everything by Oasis I'm a fan of them too (went to see them in July...very good night!) and absolutely love "Cast No Shadow" and "Don't Go Away" (especially the acoustic version...as with "Stand By Me") I do enjoy when Noel sings, lovely voice.

the viva "video-text" said it could be that they are... xD they were seen somewhere in italy, in a hotel that is well known for honeymoon. *hehe* but I've forgotten the source  ... anyways, liam always says he won't get married again, as far as I know. *g* no idea.

i prefer the oasis version of lyla. i think the foo fighters are great but they should have covered kaiser chiefs - i predict a riot. they played a bit of it before they did the cover of lyla.
the oasis acoustic set was really good on jo whiley the other day, liam wasn't there as he was on holiday. liam wasn't really needed for this session as it was promo for the latest single, 'the importance of being idle', which is sung by noel.
hope it goes to number one in the UK singles chart today :)

Go to http://www.live4ever.us and sign up to the forums there, they have a whole message board dedicated to bootlegs.
Oh and to people who say that Oasis are overrated, do check out the new album, I think you`ll be suprised.
Oh, and nice to see Oasis get to No.1 for the eighth time this week with thier 17th consectutive top 5 single.
Some people say that doesn`t matter, but it`s always nice.
